Summary:

Buck drove without knowing where to go, but he looked at the mirror of the jeep where he saw him sleeping; I would do anything to protect him and give anything to make him happy, that same night looking at the stars sleeping the jeep promised to give you everything he never had no matter what had to happen.

Chapter 1: You can't stop DNA

2012

I got into the Jeep angry, plopping down on the seat, I really don't know why I thought Maddie was coming with me.

-Maddie's not coming.- The small soft voice makes me pull myself together, I can't show my anger, I have to put that behind me, I have a responsibility here now. 

-No, buddy.- I turn to look at him. - It will be you and me, against the world- He smiles at me showing his teeth.

 

-Against the world- He shouts raising his hands and smiled, I don't know where we're going to go but I know that now he's the only thing that matters to me, I won't let anything bad happen to him.

 

2020

-Buckley!- Buck was startled at the shout, and looked at his captain, who once considered him his father, now all that has been burned away; all because of the lawsuit, Buck just wanted to get back to his family, now he had no one, although Hen and Chim weren't that bad, but they wouldn't talk to him, Eddie wouldn't let him see Christopher even though he knew Jack talked to him through his video games, Maddie didn't talk to him that much, Buck knew that if Maddie told him what was going on at the station she would scream and get mad but his relationship with Chim could be affected and he would never allow that, and Bobby, the man he considered his father was now nothing more than a man who sent him all over the cleanup, and the only person who was by his side was Athena, the one who knows Jack, the only person; He never introduced him to the others, he was going to do it but the tsunami happened and then the lawsuit and he couldn't, he didn't want him to see what he was suffering, he deserved a family that loved him; although now he was 15 years old, he had matured very fast.

 

- Yes, captain.- he turned to him, but as he met her captain's gaze he looked down at the ground.

 

-Go fill up the truck.- That was all he said before disappearing up the stairs to the top, really though he did all the cleaning; Buck loved going to fill up the truck, as it was the only time he could ride in it, since I can't go to any call, he was always the man behind; he still hoped they would let him come back, but he knew that wouldn't be soon. 

 

He got on and drove happily, those moments were the ones that made him feel worthwhile. 

 

The whole station was noisy, Hen and Chim were playing mario karts, Bobby was cooking and Eddie was looking at his phone when Athena came in with a boy behind.

 

-Athena.- Bobby greets, approaching his wife, giving her a kiss. -What brings you here?- Then Bobby noticed the boy, reaching almost to Athena's shoulder, thin, his light blonde but brown messy hair, blue eyes and a look that made Bobby feel uncomfortable, as if the boy looks through him, tragedy with a backpack and an envelope in his hands, before Bobby asked who it was, Athena spoke first.

 

-Where's Buck?- The boy looked around, observing each of the firefighters who were nearby; Hen, Chim and Eddie stopped everything to look at the boy.

 

-He went to refill the truck.- The boy snorted mockingly, Athena gave him a look making the boy look away, there was something about Bobby that said this boy was something different.

 

-Who is the boy? .- Hen dared to ask, approaching the center table just like Chim and Eddie.

 

-A ghost, Henrietta.- The boy mocked, smiling and looking at Hen, the boy seemed to be amused by the fact that Hen was scared to know his name although he didn't show it, but the boy knew.

 

-Jack.- Athena scolded him, making the boy snort, Athena pulled one of the chairs at the table.- Sit down.- She ordered him, making the boy sit down and start playing with the chair, turning it back and forth.

 

-How...?- Hen didn't know how the boy knew his name but that didn't give him a good feeling.

 

-I'm sorry, Jack usually bothers others.- Athena apologized for Jack, and made everyone surprised. Athena didn't apologize, especially for a child he was deliberately making fun of. -Will Buck be long?- Athena asks, watching Jack throw his head back in boredom.

 

-I don't think so.- Bobby speaks sitting at the table, Jack watched him at all times.

 

-Athena.- Eddie sits in front of Jack, making Jack sit up straight, putting his elbows on the table and putting his hands together and leaning on it, looking determinedly at Eddie.- Who is...?- Before he finished the question. , Maddie appears almost running down the stairs.

 

-Is Buck here?- Everyone didn't know what was happening, because now they were desperately looking for Buck.

 

-No, he went to fill the truck.- Eddie could see Jack shift in his seat, and look at Maddie in a threatening way, he was tense.

 

Before everyone started talking, the truck was heard pulling in.

 

-Everyone stay still, I'll talk.- Athena demanded, making everyone agree without being able to say more, Athena looked down and saw Buck get out of the truck. -Hey, Buck.- Athena greeted and Buck looked at her smiling.

 

-Hey Athena.- Everyone heard Buck's happiness, and knew that it had been weeks since they heard him so happy.

 

-You can go up for a minute.-

 

-Sure...- Buck's voice wavered but rose, he stopped when he looked at everyone. -What's happening?- Buck whispered scared, but then his gaze shifted to Jack. -What? Why is he here? - He almost shouted, approaching Jack. - What did you do? - Jack quickly raises more hands. - What did he do? - He turns to Athena, everyone saw that he went into a frenzy, turning from Athena to Jack. - I swear by god... - Buck couldn't finish, Athena interrupted him.

 

-He didn't do anything Buck.- Athena tried to calm him down, the whole station was somewhat confused.

 

-Then why is he here, he shouldn't be here.- He muttered towards Athena, he seemed annoyed.

 

-Jack, could you give him her papers?- Jack stood up, giving him a long yellow envelope with a stamp.

 

Buck took it in silence and opened it, the entire station watched attentively what was happening, the other firefighters came up to watch what was happening.

 

Everyone noticed that Buck tensed up at one point, his jaw tightened and he looked angry.

 

-Buck.- Athena tried to get closer but Jack put a hand on her shoulder and shook his head when Athena turned to look at him.

 

And then Buck exploded, still with the papers in his hand, he swung hard at a support, hitting it hard, everyone was scared. Buck had never been aggressive, no one had ever seen him that way.

 

He turned back to Athena, and for a moment Bobby realized that this wasn't Buck and whatever had angered him could be directing his anger at his wife. He stood up carefully, but when Buck started to speak, he stood there confused by her what he said.

 

-Because now, after eight years, they come to ask for it. WHY?! - He shouted and then Jack went crazy.

 

-I'm not going back, I'm not going to do it, I prefer to die before returning to them.- And everyone was confused.

 

Buck and Jack's screams filled the entire station, Athena tried to control them.

 

-What's happening?- Maddie screams loudly, making the three turn to look at her.

 

-It doesn't matter.- Buck whispers and for the first time Maddie sees her brother and she can't recognize him. .

 

-Take your things Jack, let's go.- Buck was about to turn around when Bobby spoke to him.

 

-You're still on duty.- Buck makes a disgusted face.

 

-It's not like they really need me, and I have to fix some things.- Buck confronted Bobby, something that had never happened, Chim, Hen and Eddie were surprised by the way Buck acted.

 

-Buck you better tell them, you're going to need support.- Athena tries to reason with him, but Jack lets out a mocking laugh.

 

-Help? From them?- Jack looked at them mockingly.- They abandoned him.-

 

-Buck, you know better.- Buck is tense looking at the floor.

 

-I need to call a lawyer..- He whispered and everyone looked at each other, not knowing what was happening.- Stay with Athena until i returns.- Buck walked ignoring everyone to go down the stairs. - Tell them your name Jack.- and with That's low, his whole world has just collapsed and he had to do everything he could to keep Jack from being taken away from him.

 

Then Jack snorted and turned to everyone.

 

-Well, I'm Jack, Jackson Buckley.- And everyone was stunned.

Since there aren't many scenes of young Buck or a child, I decided to have Jacob Tremblay as little Buck and Colin Ford as a teenager.

-You know?- She whispered, looking towards where Buck had gone.

-Daniel?.- Chim murmured.

-Of course, Buck the defective.- Everyone tensed.- Daniel, for whom we suffered and Buck was hated.-

-No, mom and dad were never abusive.- Maddie whispered, she couldn't believe what Jack was saying.

-Maddie.- Jack approached, but Athena stopped him, but it wasn't enough for her to stop talking.- You were never there, for God's sake, you didn't know about me.-

Maddie stayed silent.

-Kid, maybe it's best if you're with your parents.- Bobby tried to calm Jack down, but it made him explode.

-Stay?- he shouted so loudly.- My parents hated us, I never knew the outside world until I was 4 years old, and it was because of Buck, and he received a beating in return.- Jack was so angry that there was no stopping him anymore. .- Buck was the one who took care of me, loved me, taught me everything in life; Do you want to know why we left that house? -Jack- Athena warns him.

- Street fights, you think for a minute Chris isn't suspicious. - Jack ignored Athena and looked at him challengingly.

- You do not remember me? -Jack smiled at him, Eddie looks at him without saying anything.- Of course not.- he mocked.- I carried Christopher for a long time so he would be safe.- he whispered.

-The tsunami.- Hen whispered, Eddie gulped, watching Jack, trying to remember it.

- I was there. -I look at everyone.- For a moment I thought this was a family.- He shook his head.

- You don't know us. - Eddie growled, looking at Jack angrily.

-I don't know them.- Jack says sarcastically.- Let's see.- Jack tilts his head mockingly.-Edmundo Diaz, Del Paso, two sisters, dead wife, ambushed in the army, silver star, parents trying to take their son and now street fights.- Jack smiles mockingly, turns to Hen.- Henrietta Wilson, father who abandoned her, at 16 years old you were shot by accident, you worked as a sales representative. First shitty captain, first friend Howard Han, ex-girlfriend who was in jail, son Denny.- Hen looked at him with fear, Jack continued with Chim.- Howard Han, absent father, when you were 5 years old you came here for your job. Then he turns to Bobby and smiles, almost mockingly. - Robert Nash. - Jack says his name as if he enjoyed it. - Previously married to Marcy, two children; the three died in a fire that was caused by a heater left on.- Everyone looked at Bobby.- who was forgotten by a drunk and addict.- Jack was taking small steps closer to Bobby.

- Jack. - Athena warned.

-You think you're a good captain.- Jack said harshly.-Buck believed in you so much, he saw you as a father figure.- Jack stood in front of Bobby.- But you ended up being another disappointment, damn.-

-Jackson!- Everyone was quickly taken out of what was happening, Buck was on the stairs, annoyed.-That's enough, go to the car.- Buck said with authority, but Jack didn't move from where he was.- I'm not going to repeat, jack.- That seemed to bring Jack out of his state, Jack snorts before turning around and walking towards Buck, where he passes by him to go down the stairs. When Jack is out of sight, Buck closes his eyes, taking a deep breath. -I'm sorry about that.- He just whispered, he looked at Bobby.- The chief will send you a float while you fix things.- He approached Athena and whispered, almost none of them could hear.- Why did you let him say that?-

-Because you were never going to do it.- Was all Athena said, Buck closed his eyes trying to relax, he returned his gaze to the team and his sister.

-Most likely they will call them to testify, I really don't care what they say, but if they really are my family, they will support me.- Buck walked over to the coffee table and took a pen and paper and wrote something quickly.- If you want one more answer, here.- He held up the paper.-This is my home address, I won't be in my apartment for a while.- Buck left the paper on the table and left.

Everyone remained silent, until Athena spoke.- Tomorrow I will go at 8 in case anyone wants to come.- Athena left, leaving everyone wondering what they had to do now.
