Chapter 1: Lovefool

Chapter Text

—”This is really going to be a problem.”

With no money and no idea what to do, he repeated the thought over and over again in his mind.

Well, it wasn’t completely accurate to say he had no money. The wallet in his pocket was filled with all the cash he owned, enough to go on a little bit of a shopping spree if he had to—under normal circumstances. But in this case, “no money” is really the only way to describe his situation.

“Yeah, but the currency system here is completely different, isn’t it…”

-“Sorry about that… I had a limited window of opportunity to bring you here, and I didn't know what to bring.”

An elegant voice rang inside of his head, making the hairs in his back shiver… those weren't his thoughts.

It didn't help that he wasn’t used to speaking to girls.

-”Who… who are you?”

The young man asked awkwardly, unsure if he lost his mind.

-”Wait, you don't recognize me?”

The female voice in his head said with a hint of concern about it, which caught the hikikomori off-guard.

-”Wait, should I?”

-”No, don't worry about it, we planned for this… It is a little depressing, that is all. Let's just say we’re close and work from there!”

The female voice said, cheering herself up.

-“So are you in like… in my head? Who are you?”

She thought about his question for a moment.

-“‘In your soul’ is probably a better way to describe it. I will explain it later. You can call me Tella Flanders, by the way. But, Flügel, you should probably go elsewhere. The poor merchant thinks that you're talking to yourself.”

The teenager nodded as he waved the confused apple merchant goodbye.

-“Let me just save right here… I know your luck, Flügel.”

-“Why do you keep calling me that?” Subaru said as he noticed the weird nickname.

Think of it as your pet name. You used to eat a bunch of chicken tendies with mayo and get yourself covered with it. It was adorable.”

-“So you, you do know me... It's embarrassing since I used to think that German names sounded cool.”

As the man passed through a clothing shop, the female voice stopped his train of thought.

Wait, wait, wait, stop, stop... Who is that dashing devil?

The window of the shop displays the image of a sleep-deprived teenager.

-“Yeah look at that cutie; it's like you’re 20 years younger, give or take. I would pinch your cheeks but that’d bring too much attention... Oh my goodness, Flügel, why are you so adorable?

The teen was embarrassed with a red face as he covered his shameful expression with his hands.

It's nice to know that you were always adorable. You look so cute when you’re embarrassed.”

The happy-sounding female voice remarked as the blushing man tried to hide his face from shame. When he eventually plucked up the courage to look at himself in the mirror, he saw that his brown left eye had turned a deep purple.

“Did you do something to my eyes?” She heard a tinge of nervousness in his voice as the teenager asked.

The eyes are the window to the soul. It's hard to explain it properly, but we’re basically sharing one right now.”

Is that dangerous?”

No, well, you shouldn't have to worry about it. I think. Look, it was your idea, and trust me, this is better than the alternative.”

-“What? What do you mean?”

Long story short, you ate my soul. It's not as bad as it sounds, but it will probably be better if you recover your memories instead of me trying to explain it since it sounds strange. All you need to know is that this was your idea, and I'm on your side. You will be okay.”

The teenager heard some rummaging inside his head.

-“Wait, wait, I was supposed to give you this speech in the event that you lost your memories... hold on… ahem.”

It sounded like she shuffled around some paper.

Dear amnesia-baru, if you're hearing this message from Satella, it means the plan worked, and we’re now sharing a soul. First of all, I wanted to apologise on her behalf for the kidnapping. In hindsight, we could have brought her to us but we sort of did this in a hurry, and trying to explain to our parents that we are married at our age is hard to do. But look on the bright side; this is Lugunica, a wonderful world with everything you could ever want, exciting discoveries and wonderful family members. please get to Shaula as fast as you can, and don't let Pandora find us. Love Us.”

Sincerely “

 Subaru Nello “Fugel” Flanders.

P.S. if you are going to... AHHH, I am not reading that last part,” the voice said with an embarrassed tone. It was almost as though his former self had given him strange guidance.

Wait, wait, wait... we are married?”

-“Yeah… I think we are divorced on paper. You know, till death do us part and all that and you kind of did die, not to mention that you lost some years. not that I mind... Your legal name here is Nello Flanders. You never told me why you changed your name here—something about a story you used to love. You sexy bard you.”

The young man could feel a hand slap his ass. His face turned redder than a tomato.

Satella noticed this.

I'M NOT A PERVERT, I SWEAR. YOU TURNED ME INTO THIS.” She yelled, embarrassed.

Finding out that he was suddenly married—apparently to a pervert—was a lot to process, and he fell unconscious in the street. The last thing he saw before hitting the ground was the bright blue sky of the new world he found himself in.

A certain young thief had been running from her latest victim. Trying to throw her target off her trail, she turned into a dark alleyway.

The same one Subaru had passed out in.

Knowing an opportunity when she sees one, Felt took what she’d call a “charitable donation" and picked up some more loot on her way home.

Flügel, wake up; I'm pretty sure we are being fleeced right now!”

Nobody says ‘fleeced’ anymore. But really, haven’t we only been here for less than a day?

The point is, we need to find the ruffian and get your stuff together. I liked the chips. And your photos.”

"Well, did you see where they went?"

The man said this as he stood up, dusting his clothing

“How would I, You had your eyes closed... but I think we were robbed by a blonde hoodlum."

“Who says hoodlum anymore?”

“ silence, future man!” the woman said, pinching her ex-husband's ass.

“How are you doing that?” Th

e abused young man said, protecting his behind wearing a bright red face ready to follow the stranger
