Chapter Text
The clench of a man without love was cold thing. It scorned Lilith’s skin and tore her hair, wrenching obedience forcefully from the depths of her soul. Her eyes glared through hooded lashes at Adam, his pale grin leering over her. Once again, he was holding too tightly, uncaringly, hungrily. It was a vacant smile, one not for her, only for the anguish she expelled. This was their life, the first ever. And God forgive her for despairing it. What a horrifying scene, to be birthed by someone with such endearment for existence, and handed to he who took it with an iron fist. Adam wanted control, not merely of Lilith, but of the world he dragged her through. For a time, she persisted, scornfully watching the sky roll as his demands of her grew harsher. And then, finally, the final straw snapped across her back.
“You are not to touch me again” she said coldly, holding a palm between them, Adam attempting to close the distance. His brows rose followed by a mocking grin up his face.
“Are you serious?” He scoffed. Lilith’s icy gaze told him quite quickly that she was. The first man rolled his neck, sighing. “Don’t be blasphemous, Lilith” He scolded. “Just have fun with me and do what I ask. It’s not that hard.”
“I won’t” She scorned. Adam clung to his head, rocking on his heels.
“No! You’re supposed to do what I tell you! Ugh! Just obey me” He cried, throwing his arms out in a tantrum. He snatched out to grasp her again, this time Lillith dodging back in time. He spat. “You were given to me! You are my wife”.
“We were created as equals” Lilith corrected, her fists clenching, an alien emotion consuming her.
“Uh, yeah, that’s what they told you” Adam sneered. Her chest tightened.
“I am going to walk from this conversation” Lilith asserted, sweeping her blonde hair back.
“You… You BITCH!” He yelled. Lilith looked at him confusedly.
“What is a ‘bitch’?” She asked coldly.
“I don’t know, just sounds like what you are” He snapped. Lilith soothed her throbbing head and stepped back. Adam stamped his foot, folding his arms as Lilith walked away. “You can’t escape the garden, Lilith!” He yelled, cupping his mouth. “So, you’ll have to come crawling back eventually!”
“Yeah, yeah… of course I do” She growled under her breath, walking deeper into the forest. She wandered through the foliage, her fingers trailing the leaves with a far-off look. She felt… disappointed. The place of beauty she resided over felt wasted, as if there was something else needed. Everything had felt so vacant as of recent to her. Artificial. She stopped by a large apple tree, gazing at the fruit hanging over her. And then her eyes fell to the wall. An encircling white structure, one which kept the garden hidden from what was beyond. Lilith scratched the tree bark a moment, her mind swarming with an idea. But as she heard Adam’s aggravating voice in the distance, demanding she return, she made a choice very quickly.
Hoisting one leg up, Lilith clambered up the wall. It wasn’t very tall. It seemed whoever created never thought she and Adam would ever want to leave. Her head soon poked up over the top, gazing out at the world. Like the garden, the world beyond was filled with lush greenery. It smelled old, used, dirty. Unlike the cleanliness of the garden, whatever lay beyond was marred, broken in some way. But Lilith was steady. She threw her body down from the wall, dropping into a crouch before creeping into the forest beyond. She glanced behind her, sneaking on with a frightened expression. Suddenly, something sharp tore at her ankle. Lilith yelped, before covering her mouth. She looked down at her ankle.
A single scratch was on it, from a bramble bush she had passed. She felt the pain, unsure whether it was a nice sensation or not. The sound of Adam’s yelling in the distance spurred her on, ignoring the cuts over her feet and body while she tore through the bushes. After a few more hours of running, Lilith burst from the forest into an open field. She panted, staring out at the scene. It was untouched, no walls at all surrounding it. The world went on and on, untamed. She sighed, sitting to a rock. The coarse feeling was pleasant. Everything was pleasant. Not so manufactured. And best of all, Adam wasn’t there. Lilith inhaled, letting the cold wind send grass over her skin, tickling it.
But her silent revelling was interrupted. Someone was looking at her, she could tell. Her gaze flitted up, raising a brow. There was an angel. He was beating his wings a few feet above the ground, gazing at her with an oddly warm expression. Lilith ground her teeth.
“I suppose you are here to take me back to the garden” She groaned, dropping her gaze.
“What? Oh! No, no, not at all!” The angel comforted, swinging down from the darkening sky to kneel in front of her. Lilith looked at him as he settled below her, smiling at her brightly. She couldn’t help but smile back. He was quite beautiful for an angel.
“Why are you here with me then?” She asked, resting her chin to her hand.
“I simply thought you were beautiful” he said with a grin. “And you were looking a little lonely”
“You are also quite lovely to look at” She snickered, covering her mouth. The angel’s face burst with colour, his face brightening even more.
“You have a great laugh too!” He gushed, shuffling closer, his wings stretching with passion.
"Your wings are beautiful" She complimented. The angel tapped his fingers together bashfully, humming to himself. Lilith gazed at him. For some reason, the angel carried an odd allure. The only other person she had interacted with was Adam. She thought everyone was like him, brash, rude, harsh. She thought all angels were like that too, considering how most spoke to her when visiting the garden to check up on its state. But here one was, with brilliant pale skin and a sharp toothed grin.
“I assume you’re that, uh, creation from the garden of Eden?” He asked.
"Yes, I am. Am I so notorious?” She smiled.
“So, you’re Lilith. Wow… they really knew what they were doing when creating you” He murmured in awe.
“Who are you then, odd yet beautiful stranger?” She asked warmly.
“Ah. I… am… ahem… Hoo, is it getting hot in here or is it just me?” He managed, tugging at his suit. Lilith gazed down at his clothes, glancing back at her nudity with curiosity.
“I think I would like something like this” she said, pointing to his suit.
“Oh! Yes. I agree, I think you’d look great in a suit” He nodded, eager to escape the earlier question.
“I reckon I could make a green one out of these leaves” She commented, pointing beside them.
“Ah, maybe best to not do that” He grimaced. “That’s poison ivy”.
“Poison…?” She asked inquisitively.
“Oh! You’ve got some on your legs” He said with a yelp, tearing off some of his cloak. Lilith gazed at him as he wound her leg in white fabric, tightening the bandage. “This should stop infection” He nodded. But the angel gazed at her skin, his fingers brushing up from the wounds on her ankle to brush her knees lightly, his long nails tickling the skin. Lilith laughed, squirming at the sensation.
“That feels ticklish!” She grinned, batting him away. “And what is infection? Is it something bad?”
“What? You don’t know what poison or infections are?” He asked in bewilderment. “Does heaven not tell you garden goers anything?”
“I want to know everything” She urged, catching his hands suddenly and holding them between them. The angel’s face burst with colour, a gooey smile travelling up his face as she pressed their fingers together. “The angels won’t tell me anything about the real world in Eden, and Adam barely gives me the time of day. Please, beautiful Angel, won’t you share the world with me?”
“I would love nothing more” He murmured, sliding up to sit next to her on the rock. Lilith smiled excitedly, readying herself. The two spoke for a long time, Lilith asking questions constantly, and the angel more than pleased to happily answer each one. The two slid closer together, their hands interlocked behind them. Neither had ever met another being they had felt so comfortable with. It was almost eerie how intimate the moment felt. Lilith listened warmly to the angel’s words, her head falling to rest atop his. The angel’s wings puffed up, his hands stretching as blush cast over his cheeks. But he kept talking, revealing his dreams to her.
“A world like that sounds most wonderful” Lilith murmured. “But I thought only Adam and I were in this place?”
“Lilith the world is large and wonderful!” He beamed, throwing his arms out. “There is so much beauty to be earned and discovered!”
“But I won’t find any of it in that garden” She asserted, looking to him. “May I ask you again? What is your name?”
“…Lucifer Morningstar” He finally admitted. Lilith’s eyes widened. She had most definitely heard that name before. An Angel whose passion and dreams were too frightening for heaven. A seraph stripped of his title and told in essence to stand back. He was dangerous. That was what she was told. But this was not someone frightening. This was an intelligent, bright and gleeful person, someone like her. Someone who hard yearned for more and was punished for it.
“Its lovely to meet you, Lucifer” She whispered warmly, leaning into him again. Lucifer’s body jolted, feeling Lilith’s hand tighten against his. With a squirming smile, he fell against her, feeling her warmth spread over him. She wasn’t afraid of him. She was still touching him. A sudden purring noise emanated up from Lucifer’s body as he nestled against her, making Lilith shake him lightly with soft laughter.
“Lilith, won’t you come with me?” He urged, rising from the rock. Lilith looked at him, lifting her brows.
“Only if I can know more. Where shall we go?” She asked.
“Everywhere, anywhere” He said, getting down on one knee, catching her hand. Lilith gazed at him, feeling him kiss across her hand. He held her so gently, moved so softly. There was no anger in him at her words, or her independence. This was a man awed by her simply being herself. He asked not for her to perform, for her to touch him, or to please him. In fact, he seemed almost overwhelmed at her even talking to him. “Travel the world with me, watching the stars fall and the planets dance, the winds singing their songs as we go”.
“I want that desperately” she said, pulling his hand up. Lucifer’s eyes glazed like honey as she kissed over his knuckles in return. “But I have tried this before”.
“What do you mean?” He asked, leaning up at her lowered face. Lilith averted her eyes, but Lucifer caught her chin, gently pulling her back to face him. “You can tell me anything, please”
“I have escaped the garden before, escaped him” She muttered. “But the Angels have always thrown me back, insisting on my ungratefulness”.
“Oh Lilith, I’m so sorry that happened to you” He murmured. He unhooked his hand from her grip, cupping her cheeks with both palms. Lilith leaned into his touch, Lucifer stroking her skin. “But I can protect you from their incongruous eyes, I know how their holy gaze works”.
“I can protect you too” She asserted. “I know what happened to you, Lucifer. I believe you are not the horror they have tried to convince me you are. From our fleeting moments I already know you are kind, inquisitive, and oddly sensitive” She finished with a giggle. Lucifer stared at her, heartbreak in his eyes. They warbled; vulnerability cast over his face.
“You’re so wonderful, Lilith” He whispered, his voice breaking a little. “But there is something wrong with me… I am not a kind person. I am somehow broken, and I am…”
“You needn’t be perfect, just be you” She soothed, knocking their foreheads together. “I find every part of you curious and brilliant, and I cannot wait to see more”.
“You’ll come with me, then?” He said softly, nuzzling into her touch.
“I will follow you, regardless of you pushing me away” she said, flicking her eyes to gaze into his again. Lucifer’s breath caught a moment. Her beauty was flooring. Long blonde hair, dark eyes, lidded and sultry. She was irresistible. “Take me anywhere, Lucifer”.
“With pleasure” He grinned, swooping under her legs. Lilith gasped as she was hoisted up into his arms. Despite his small stature, Lucifer easily cradled Lilith in his arms. She watched from his grip in awe as his six wings flashed out wider, enlarging to become almost three times his size. And then, in a quick rush, the wings flapped down and shot Lucifer and Lilith up into the peachy sky, sailing into the cloudless evening.
Lilith was taken. The Garden of Eden was overwhelmed with panic, Adam pacing around the grass as hordes of angels checked the bushes and alcoves about the walled province. Other angels left the sanctuary, checking the usual place Lilith ran off to in the outside world. But Lilith was nowhere to be seen. It was as if she had disappeared.
“I am not spending my life alone!” Adam snapped, pointing a finger at the angel before him. Sera loomed over him, calculating her options.
“I understand this” she said, her white hair shifting. “There cannot be only Adam. We calculated this world over millennia, we cannot have it unequal”.
“So? What are you gonna do?” He snapped, but Sera’s hand shot out, grabbing his shoulder, pushing him to the floor. “Hey?!”
“Do not move Adam. This is divine intervention” she said. Instantly, several angels dropped around him as he lay on the floor.
“Get off! What are you doin?!” He yelled. But Sera did not speak, she simply crouched next to him. Without build up or warning, her hand slashed into his chest, sinking through the flesh. Adam screamed. But she continued, digging through his bones and skin until she found what she was looking for. With a wrenching motion she snapped off a rib from his cage and drew it out, sealing the wound effortlessly as Adam lay panting on the grass, wincing in pain.
“You want someone so like you? Very well, I present your next wife, Adam” Sera said, holding the rib bone out. Adam was released by the angels. He wobbled up onto his knees and stared as his rib glowed a brilliant silver, stretching and growing into the shape of a person. A few moments later, a woman dropped from the transformation. Her long brown hair shifted in the breeze, and she turned to Adam with a peachy perfect face. “Eve, this is Adam.” Sera said, pushing Eve over.
“Hello…” Eve murmured, kneeling by Adam. The man stared at her, before grinning.
“Lilith was always a bitch anyway” He grinned, catching Eve’s wrist harshly. Sera stared at the two, rubbing her brow.
“What’s done is done… I have other matters to attend to” Sera murmured, turning from the scene.
“Like what?” Adam asked, scratching his ear.
“Like, where had Lucifer wandered off to” She scowled, ascending to heaven. Adam watched her go, still latched to Eve.
“I can’t wait to go up there” He grinned, before turning to Eve. “You’re gonna listen to what I say, right?”
“Yes Adam” she said politely. Adam snickered.
“That’s right bitch! Get fucked Lilith!” He yelled out.

While all this was occurring, in the depths of the world, two people were by a river. Lucifer gazed at Lilith as she soaked in the waters, her hair trailing behind her like a stream of gold in the blue. She scrubbed her face, looking to him. She grinned.
“Come in with me” She beamed, splashing the water temptingly. Lucifer shuddered. “Do you not want to-?”
“NO. I really want to! I’m coming in!” He announced, throwing his suit off. Lilith snickered as he dove nude into the river, popping up next to her with a gasp. Lilith laughed, embracing him in the cool water. Lucifer smiled dreamily over her shoulder and hugged her back. They stood in the river a while, Lillith trailing her hands up and down Lucifer’s back as he massaged her shoulders, swaying with the current.
“I’ll wash your hair” he said, walking to the shallows, pulling her with him. Lilith lay down, resting her head to a rock as Lucifer ran his fingers through her hair. He caressed her forehead as he worked, prodding her nose lightly, making her snicker again. Her eyes flickered open, gazing at him as he worked away with a serious expression. “I really want to braid it…” He murmured, sticking out his tongue in concentration.
“Please do… Your fingers feel nice” She yawned. Lucifer smiled, beginning to section her locks. But Lilith narrowed her eyes. It had been over a month since she had left Eden, and as Lucifer had comforted her with, not a single Angel had attempted to find her. She glanced up at him. Lucifer noticed her gaze and chuckled at her expression.
“You look so serious. So cute” He gushed, kissing her forehead.
“Lucifer… Do you ever feel like we should change the way things are?” She asked. Lucifer froze, his eye twitching.
“You want… our relationship to change?” He asked with a quivering voice. Lilith paused, before bursting out with a laugh.
“That’s such an intense reaction, and no, my love. I don’t mean our relationship” She grinned, lifting her cool hands up to stroke away his worry lines. “I mean the way heaven orchestrates this world”.
“Hoo boy, that’s a pretty intense thing to want to change” He sighed, closing his eyes to revel in her touches as her fingers traced his face. “I… tried before. But Angels and the creator are… pretty set on how everything is”.
“Yes, but you aren’t alone anymore” Lilith pushed. “I am the first woman. Adam is probably scowling around in Eden waiting for me to return”.
“Which you won’t” Lucifer checked.
“Which I won’t” Lilith smiled. “But you're a Seraphim, and I am necessary to the world’s growth. We hold power, we can convince them, together”.
“Lilith, my duckling, I don’t think we can” He sighed, finally releasing her head. Lilith sat up in the water, stroking down her wet hair, now set in a long plait.
“But what if we could?” She pressed, turning and grasping his hands. “Please at least discuss it with me”
“… Okay, yes. I’m sorry, I’m being such a drag” Lucifer groaned, dropping his head. Lilith quickly slid forwards, dropping her face and pushing it up into his. Lucifer’s eyes widened as she kissed him, pressing him up and back, his head falling to the riverbed. His face heated with passion, staring up at Lilith as she hovered over him, her hands set either side of his head. She quickly resumed the kiss, pecking over his face. Lucifer closed his eyes and kissed her back, his arms lifting to secure to her back, keeping her on top of him.
“You aren’t a drag” She murmured between kisses, sucking at his throat. Lucifer gritted his teeth as her fingers danced his body. “You are wonderful… Say it”
“Ah…” Lucifer shuddered, his hands fisting shakily.
“Won’t you say it for me?” Lilith purred, kissing his lips one final time before waiting for a reply with a smile. Lucifer stared up at her bashfully, biting his lip.
“I’m wonderful…” He mumbled. Lilith grinned, kissing him once more for good luck.
“Well done” She beamed, hoisting him up to sit opposite her again. “Shall we talk in the river, or at its side?”
“I think in the river… I need to cool down, like a lot” He wheezed.
