Chapter Text
The ship was beautiful. State of the art, brand new tech never before seen. The fusion of Human ingenuity and gem tech, a symbol of unity and progress to signal the progress they had all come to hundreds of years after the end of the Diamond Authority. It was all perfect, the best of the best selected as the crew, pure humans, gems and hybrids of every specialty necessary to run a star ship, the celebration at its launch was absolutely magnificent. Yes… it was all perfect… was.
It takes quite a while for rebels to change their minds, you see, even centuries after they’ve been proven wrong in every aspect. Then again, gems take quite a bit of effort to be able to change their ways in any aspect, especially when they are former noble-caste that are no longer of any importance once the caste system was taken down. They’re quite resentful you see, so when you mix it with a lack of aging and surround them with nothing but other bitter gems that think similarly, and they end up jumping off the deep end.
The ship was perfect, the battle lasted no time whatsoever. The shields all held, the hull wasn’t even scratched, the guns barely rose by a single degree when fired, there was absolutely no issues at all taking down their ships in the ambush; such is the result when you use millennia-old ships against brand-new tech. No, the issue was when the shields were taken down for maintenance to make sure nothing whatsoever was damaged, no matter how small. There, in a small section of the engine room, at the far back, a group of 5 crewmembers see something odd out of one of the portholes. A soft blue light that seems to have no real origin. It took barely a blink before it grew in intensity so much everybody had gone blind.
And just like that, everything went dark.

I am Fulgurite Facet-4D2L Cut-2ER. I am an engineer meant to specialize in the equipment utilized for kindergartens. I am… no. What? That’s not right. What the fuck? My name is Sam, not fulgurite whatever the fuck. I am an engineer, yes, but on the star ship ‘New Light’ not on… homeworld? Homeworld isn’t making new gems! It was outlawed centuries ago, what the f- no… no, wait, how can I know what date it is? It’s… 2000 years before Rose’s rebellion?! Or Pink Diamond, whatever, the point is… its dark? Why is it dark? It feels… tight. Like I’m in a cramped box or… buried. Shit, no, fuck. I’m being born as a gem! No! What? Did somebody mess with my memories or something? Wh-
Oh, light? Light! Yes! Dig, get me out of-! Oh… oh fuck. All around me, other fulgurites growing out of their holes, Peridots, Titanites and older Fulgurites are overseeing the process with an assortment of Quartz guards as muscle. The sky is dark, but not in the ‘it’s night-time’ way but in the ‘where the fuck is the atmosphere?’ way. In the distance… the Diamond’s towers. No… no, god damn it I-! NO! YOU BASTARDS!

That day, what the supervising Holly Agate was expecting was a simple report of the successful growing of more Fulgurites for the Gempire. What she did not expect at all was a video recording from one of the Peridots attached as evidence for some odd behaviour from one of the hatchlings. It shows a fulgurite looking around, shaken and bewildered at some unknown factor, who then drops to her knees and screams into the sky:
“YOU MANIACS! YOU BLEW IT UP! AH DAMN YOU! GOD!”
