The Past Does Not Define Us (but it would be nice to have more information from it)

Summary:

Through a series of events not fully remembered, Din is transported to a completely different planet. With different clothes. And a different age.

Missing his weapons, his armor, and, well, everything except the beskar spear and a strange dark crystal, he needs to figure out where he is, why he is child-shaped, and where all of these mando'ade came from.

(or, Din is sent to the past, where upon he meets civil war era Death Watch, Jaster and his True Mandos, slowly cottons on to the fact that his 'childhood whimsies' may have had more meaning behind them, and knows just about jack-all about how to deal with any if it.)

Notes:

This first chapter is just to toss out the general notes of what I've knowingly taken liberties with and some parsed down timeline information since a lot of fic's I've read are super jumbled about when things have happened. Chapter 1: New Body, Who dis?

** Chapters1 & 2 were updated as of fed 2nd 2024 for spelling mistakes and to correct Djarin's name, as apparently his given name is Djarin and his family name is Din. So we are doing that now.*

This first chapter is just to toss out the general notes of what I've knowingly taken liberties with and some parsed down timeline information since a lot of fic's I've read are super jumbled about when things have happened. Not everything noted will affect the story, come to pass, or even be mentioned, but since I'm still writing it all out, who knows?

**THIS IS ALL A PRECURSOR TO THE ACTUAL FIC, SINCE I HAVE TAKEN SO MANY LIBERTIES. THE STORY STARTS IN CHAPTER 2**

Assumptions time!!

Djarin – Knows history, but not a lot outside of what’s most important to survive. Knows the empire fucked over Mandalore, knows the resistance fought them and won, knows Moff Gideon because he glassed Mandalore. Assumption: he knows some world leaders and major political figures given he needs to not provoke incidents while hunting bounties. Or taking stupid bounties.

* Djarin was in his 30s for the glassing. (fact)

*The creedbound specifically follow the no-helmet-removal rule; the belief is hand-in-hand with the belief that those who do not follow the creed are cursed/will bring ruin. Most mandalorians do not follow the creed in full. ( ASSUMPTION that the no-helmet-removal rule is limited within the confines of family or clan.)

*Mandalore has been in a state of upheaval since a year after Djarin was found; Assumption: Djarin was on Concordia for a year or a few before the Tribe left because of Maul & Imperial occupation. Possible that he was simply off planet or fled during the Purge, but considering that he didn’t seem to know Bo-Katan (who had been Mand’alor until then), I assume not

* Djarin was raised in the fighting corpse; not trained, raised. Assumption: he was saved by Kyr’tsad and later taken in by Ade’d’tsad, did not have a buir that raised him, just the trainers and the group. (did savior buir die early? Kyr’tsad known to force kids through initiation not much known about actually caring for them. Possibly just no buir at all)

- I like species variety in my shit – Myles is zabrak (yellow skin, black hair, orange eyes, tattoos: yes)

 

 

Things of note (apparently):

*Dark core lightsabers exist – the core is dark, it’s a super special crystal who’s galaxy no longer exists: very rare, but it’s not a darksaber. The sword still can have color, it’s just a black core.

*Kyber crystals are NOT the only thing that can be used for lightsabers (even though 90% of crap online states that they are). It is the most common. Who the fuck knows what’s the core of the Darksaber, not canon.

* Supercommando Codex: written by Jaster Mereel, several hundred commandments on how to govern behavior, including how to conduct oneself in combat and war. Based on the resol’nare and follows the six tenets. (this is not written directly in canon, only referenced. I choose to believe it would have helped stabilized Mandalore if given the chance to get a strong hold, taking them out of the pacifist stranglehold and decreased the infighting)

* Resol’nare:

• raise children as mandalorian
• contribute to the clan
• rallying to the mand’alor’s cause when called

• Human – 120 yr
• Zabrak – 180
• Pantoran – 75-100
• Twi-lek – 75

* Mandalorians train kids to fight from age 8-13, at which point they took the verd’goten to prove themselves adults and to take the creed

• - cant tell what’s fanon or canon at this point, I’m gonna assume that they dont just chuck their kids into war zones as cannon fodder as soon as they hit 13 and are an adult. Anyone who has grown up knows that 13 is not truly an adult, you just start gaining a brain. I will assume that they just start the hands on ‘take you into the field’ type learning. This is fully not canon, I am aware that there have been instances that canon characters were starting ‘field training’ at like… 8. But, I’m going to treat those as extreme situations, like Din bringing Grogu into fire fights ‘cause babysitters weren’t a thing. Yep.

32 bby – Palpatine’s (52) plans start coalescing: the powers he’s put into place and behind the scenes meddling strike flint and tensions ignite across the galaxy as war brews; Palpatine is elected Supreme Chancellor; Anakin is won by Qui-gon

~31 bby (~88 RTDS) – Kal Skirata and others are hired to train clones to fight. Kal starts to adopt several ‘null’ class and name them. (Kal 49)

30-27 bby (92-89 RTDS) – Din born

29 bby – Palpatine (55) starts to ‘befriend’ Anakin, starting his one-on-one talks

24 bby – Senate puts into motion the Emergency Powers bill for supreme chancellor, should it come down to it.

23 bby (96 RTDS) – Boba starts gong on hunts with Jango

22 bby – Shmi dies in Anakin’s arms, Grand Army is accepted after Palpatine is given emergency powers and clones brought into the fold, Jango is killed by Mace, the senate makes the Jedi masters into high generals, later the Knights are also made into general, Anakin’s knighthood is pushed through so that they have more generals to lead

20-19 bby – Aq Vetina attacked by seperatists, Din becomes foundling

19 bby (100 RTDS) – Maul takes over Mandalore, new civil war takes place. Maul kills Pre Viszla, inherites Darksaber, Kills Satine. Death Watch Bo-Katan rescues Obi-wan and continues to try to dethrone Maul – Palpatine arrives to kill Maul’s brother and collects Maul on his way out. Power is given over to Bo-Katan, making her Mand’alor

19 bby – Anakin renders a planet lifeless???

19 bby – Maul escapes Palpatine with the help of two Mandalorians who still view him as Mand’alor; Maul’s plan to stop Palpatine’s control of the galaxy is to kill Anakin (and Obi-wan, ‘cause always Obi-wan). Through a lot of chaos, there are more wins in the Republic’s favor, the senate is attempting to remove emergency powers, and victory looks to be approaching (unrest with the core worlds) – as emergecy powers are about to be revoked, Palpatine makes his move, gives Anakin that last push, and enacts order 66. Empire occupation of Mandalore ensues

4-5 aby – Great Purge of Mandalore (the glassing of the surface of Madalore, millions dead and the rest scattered) Mand’alor Bo-Katan surrenders to Moff Gideon, wherein he gains the Darksaber; he breaks his word immediately, continuing the purge, including any fleeing ships.
