Work Text:

Tommy flew up the stairs and in through the balcony door to the kitchen. The pouring rain felt more like ice drops and the howling winds didn’t help. The kitchen was warm, lit in a cozy glow by the flames of a couple of tealights on the table.  He stood there dripping for a moment taking in the homey sight. Trixie looked up from the book she was reading, a steaming cup of tea on the table in front of her. The table was set for two with a covered dish at his seat. The smells in the kitchen brought him back to Japan and his granny’s kitchen, it felt safe and made his tastebuds tickle.

“How was the run? It looks awful outside.”

“Invigorating? I should have stayed in.”

“I made breakfast.” He lifted the cover and blinked at the array of food underneath, it wasn’t what he expected. A bowl of Miso soup, rice, omelette, sliced fruit. Thinly sliced spring union was sprinkled over the soup and omelette.

“I’m so happy you know more of my background now and I don’t have to have oatmeal for breakfast every day. “

He laughed thinking he actually did prefer a blueberry muffin and oatmeal but then again, he did grow up in the US. It was funny how thing was reversed between them, looking at them it would have been easy to think he would be the one preferring this type of breakfast and not her.

“There’s tea too”, she nodded to the small Japanese style teapot on the table. Lifting the lid, he smelled the tea and whipped his head back to Trixie.

“Gyokuro?! How did you make it?”

“60-degree water, 4 grams of tealeaves per cup and then I let it steep for 60-seconds. Is there any other way?”

Of course not, and he shouldn’t be surprised that she knew what she was doing, tea was her thing. Tommy hastily filled up a cup and sank down on the chair inhaling the rich grassy tones of the tea, he closed his eyes and shuddered, there was nothing like this tea.

“How did you get hold of it? I’ve been disappointed so many times buying this state sides.”

“I have supplier.” She smiled secretively, eyes sparkling and he knew she’d die to protect her source, but it didn’t matter, he could get his fix through her now.

“I knew there was a reason I fell in love with you.”
