Work Text:

After the great fall, Vash didn’t run away. It was almost as if he couldn’t, like his feet were frozen in place. He was forced to stand there as Nai laughed victoriously, gleefully, until Nai noticed that some survivors were emerging from the records, until Vash’s mind clicked into gear, and screamed at Nai to run.

They did, Nai took his hand, and the two of them ran and ran, with no destination in sight.

Vash found food and water scraps from pieces of the ships, digging through charred materials over miles and miles until they ended up with a real camp— cloaks to protect them from the sun, a pack full of supplies to keep Vash alive, even some blankets that they used for a bed. Nai was happy, and still hopeful that he could make them an Eden. He talked about it all the time, often reading Vash stories from the bible before he fell asleep. Vash always took comfort in Nai’s smooth voice soothing him, especially when it started to get deeper a few years into their journey, when both of them started to get bigger, and they had to go rummaging through more broken ship parts to look for clothes that fit.

Vash kept track of the days with a small journal and pencil that he found lying in the sand one day.

It’s five years when Nai starts to act strangely.

Nai’s not always sweet and kind, but he’s been especially mean recently, snapping at Vash every time he asks to make camp or has to stop to use the bathroom. “We’re never going to make it to JuLai at this point!” Nai recently heard about a large town with tons of water-producing plants from some settlers who believed they were just two teenagers looking for their family. It’s been his single-minded goal ever since, to reunite with the other plants.

Vash always apologizes, resting as quickly as he can before they move on, and that’s how things go for a few days, until one night, Nai tells him, “Okay, I’m feeling a little tired too. We can stop.” And Vash is so surprised that he actually has a hard time falling asleep, almost as if he expects Nai to jump up and tell Vash he was lying.

That’s when he hears strange noises coming from Nai. They sound like… like he’s in pain, except for that’s not the emotion coming off of Nai in waves. Vash can tell that Nai feels good, and it’s not until he hears a particularly wet sound coming from Nai, that he realizes exactly what Nai’s doing.

Oh. Nai’s pleasuring himself.

It’s not anything new for the two of them. They’ve done it next to each other or for each other, never really sure how to do anything else Rem told them about during the few, rushed talks they had about human reproduction. Their bodies don’t look like the humans do, so Rem would try her best to fill in the gaps, telling them things like “you don’t do that with family” (which both of them never could understand) and “Sex is for reproduction. That’s how we make babies.” Vash just always touches where it feels good, and so does Nai, and Vash likes it, even though he’s not sure how their bodies would fit together like the humans do.

Vash almost feels sad that Nai left him out of this now, but he listens anyway, feeling his lower belly grow hot and tingly as Nai makes soft noises, again and again until finally, Nai chokes a moan, his clothes rustling against their blankets as he finishes.

Vash doesn’t sleep very much at all that night, wondering why Nai wanted to hide himself away.

The next day, things get even weirder. Nai’s face has a red flush to it that wasn’t there the day before. Vash is worried that he’s gotten burned from the sun, even though that’s never happened to them before, but he knows that it’s something that can happen to humans. Every time he tries to bring it up, though, Nai snaps at him, calling him all kinds of names, telling Vash that he’s not like him, he’s the better plant. Vash doesn’t even have it in him to get upset. Nai’s just acting too strangely for Vash to take his words seriously.

Just before nightfall, Nai’s pace slows. He’s practically dragging himself along. Vash knows that Nai’s too stubborn to tell Vash he needs to stop walking, so Vash decides to take one for the team. He pretends that he’s the one who’s too tired to carry on, begging and pleading with Nai to make camp.

Nai agrees, and the two of them find a nice rock to take shelter under. Vash makes them their bed, not even giving Nai a chance to squirm away from him tonight. He’s just too worried about his brother. Nai practically collapses into it, and Vash drags him closer. The sand doesn’t make a very good pillow, but he figures that he might. Nai ends up snuggled on Vash’s chest, his skin fever-hot, and Vash busies his mind by looking up into the sky.

The worms are out tonight, painting the sky pretty blues and greens. “Look at the worms, Nai.” Vash says. “You know what that means. It’s about to get warmer. Remember we decided that it would be Spring soon if we were on Earth? Maybe we could find somewhere to stay for the hot months, a little village that needs help.”

Normally, Nai would protest this, but tonight, he just hums.

“Vash,” Nai starts, speaking slowly. “I feel strange.”

Vash almost sighs with relief. They’ll finally be able to figure out what’s going on! “Yeah?” he asks, trying to keep his voice calm, not wanting to scare Nai off. “Where?”

Nai’s quiet for a long moment before he says, “Well, everywhere, but, um, between my legs.”

Now that, Vash wasn’t expecting, but he guesses that’s why Nai was touching himself the night before. He was probably trying to figure out why he was feeling so weird. “C-Can I look?” Vash asks, because he’s not sure what else to do.

Nai doesn’t answer with his words, but he does strip the sheet off of him and shimmy out of his pants. Vash can only see what’s illuminated by the worms, but it’s still very apparent. There’s a wet spot on Nai’s underwear, one that’s spreading down his thighs. “Whoa,” Vash marvels, and when he inhales, he smells the sweetest nectar he’s ever smelled. It’s incredible, filling up his nostrils and making his head swim a little. Vash blinks hard against the feeling, almost like he’s trying to be rid of it. It’s just so intense, and he starts to feel a warmth between his own legs as well.

Suddenly, Vash remembers something that Rem had told him long ago.

Spring is the rebirth of life on Earth. The plants start to bloom, the animals start to make new babies.

Now, Vash knows they’re not animals, but maybe plants like them can want to make new babies, too. Vash sure is interested in trying, especially with how good Nai smells.

“Nai?” he starts. “I think you want to make babies with me.”

Nai whines at his words, a little shiver running through his body.

“Is that why you feel strange? Remember, spring is the time when plants start to bloom. Do you think you’re starting to bloom?”

Nai nods weakly, whispering, “Help me,” into the night air. “Please, Vash?”

Vash can’t help the surge of arousal that fills him then, he leans in, pressing his mouth right between Nai’s legs, right to the source of the sweet nectar scent. Vash groans into him, inhaling deeply. He mouths at the wet spot, almost as if he’s trying to kiss it. Nai shivers hard, his thighs coming together and clenching around Vash’s head. Vash makes a happy nose against Nai’s body. He’s happy to be stuck here. He feels Nai’s body moving under his lips, his flower shifting from the pleasure. Vash is familiar with this feeling, it happens every time he touches himself. His flower shifts just enough to let his fingers enter, the petals spreading apart. Nai’s flower must be getting ready for him, wanting him to go inside.

“We have to take your pants off, Nai,” Vash tells him, and Nai whines above him, impatient and annoyed that Vash has to move away from his flower long enough to undress him. Vash helps him, quickly pulling down his underwear and tossing them into the sand. He promises silently that he’ll help Nai clean them off after, and then he goes right back to it, kissing Nai’s flower again. The petals keep moving under his touches, spreading apart further and further as Vash listens to Nai’s sounds to try and figure out what feels good. There’s a little bud at the top of the flower, and Vash puts his mouth there, sucking firmly. Nai screams, his back arching up and into Vash’s mouth. Whoa, that must be where it feels the best for Nai. Vash knows that he likes touching himself there, too. He just likes it when his stamen comes out more.

Vash brings one of his fingers up, curiously dipping it into Nai’s hole, dragging it through the sweet nectar that’s spilling out of him. Nai whimpers-- a pretty noise that Vash rarely hears from him, and then his legs twitch as Vash pushes his finger inside. Nai feels tight and hot, and Vash feels himself throb between his legs. He can feel his own petals shifting, probably making room for his stamen to come out. Vash feels an intense need to lean down and taste Nai, so he does, putting his mouth back on Nai’s flower to try and lick up some of his nectar. This time, it’s Vash’s turn to moan. He feels his head swim, something strange overtaking him. It quiets his mind, making Nai the most important thing in his entire world. He wants nothing more than to make Nai feel good, than to breed him and make the babies they both want so desperately.

It doesn’t take long before Nai’s crying out, and Vash can tell that he’s finishing from how his flower twitches and shivers before spurting hot nectar onto Vash’s tongue. Vash moans with it, feeling his own flower dripping between his legs.

Above them, the worms dance around, allowing them to see.

“Vash,” Nai whimpers. “I still feel weird. I need more.”

“Yeah, okay,” Vash breathes, because he thinks he knows what to do. It’s what his body wants him to do, anyway. “I’ll help you, Nai.”

Vash pulls down his own pants, tossing them into the sand next to them. He looks down at his own flower, and is shocked at what he sees. His stamen have come together all on their own, appearing to be thicker, girthier, almost resembling the human genitalia he saw in the books that Rem gave them. Vash shivers as he touches it, gripping it with his palm. Beneath him, Nai’s spread open, his flower weeping. Nai brings his hands up to his mouth when he sees what Vash’s body has done, and it takes Vash a moment to realize that he’s wiping away drool that’s pooled at the corner of his lips. Nai wants him, this much is clear. And Vash is going to give Nai what he wants.

“We’re going to make babies now, Nai,” Vash whispers, leaning down to place a soft kiss to the tip of Nai’s nose. Vash brings his stamen to Nai’s hole, shuddering violently when he starts to press inside. He’s not even sure if this is the right thing to do, moving only on instinct. He keeps pushing inside of Nai, noticing how his stamens twitch and become firmer, making it easier for Vash to slide them inside of Nai’s waiting hole. Nai’s holding onto him, his fingernails digging into Vash’s shoulders so roughly.

“Does it feel good, Nai?” Vash asks, breathless and overcome. He doesn’t know if he’s ever felt this good. Nai is so tight around him, squeezing him better than his hand ever could.

Nai nods, his eyes squeezed shut. “Please,” he pants. “Move.”

Vash kisses him, and then does as Nai says, pulling his hips out slightly before he pushes himself back inside. Nai moans, a loud, pretty noise, and Vash knows that he’s at least doing something good. He keeps at it, pistoning his hips into Nai the best he can, shaking as he tries to cope with the mounting pleasure. He didn’t know that doing this with Nai could feel so good. He wants to do it every night, all the time. He doesn’t even care about making it to JuLai anymore. The only thing Vash wants to do is to tuck Nai away somewhere, maybe a room with an actual bed, and mate with him until he can’t anymore, until he passes out or even dies. That’s how good it feels to be inside of his brother.

“Vash, Vash!” Nai screams, reaching his release once more, and it snaps Vash out of his train of thoughts, especially when Nai holds him by the face, smashing their mouths together in a sloppy, sweet kiss.

Vash keeps thrusting his hips, and he didn’t even realize how close he was until it happens. All at once his orgasm rushes up on him, making him wet, but his stamens do something different. They pulse, and then release. Vash’s eyes roll to the back of his head, quickly understanding that he’s spilling his seed inside of his brother. He keeps moving his hips through it, chasing the pleasure as it ebbs away slowly.

Vash collapses onto Nai, trying to catch his breath. The two of them refuse to separate, and Vash nibbles at Nai’s jaw, soothing himself, his teeth catching against Nai’s skin.

“Do you think it happened?” Vash asks. “Do you think we made a baby?”

“I hope so,” Nai answers. “I feel much better, for now at least.”

And that’s more than enough for Vash.
