Chapter 1: April 1st, 2026: Nasu Kankoshi Forgot Her Coffee
Chapter Text
Nasu Kankoshi was at first a bit put-off by the idea of being taught self-defense just to be a school nurse despite the reassurances of the headmaster, but she did find herself enjoying the fact that she had in the end. Nursing was what she was destined to do and so many interesting characters came in and out of her room on a daily basis. April 1st held promises of injuries from dumb pranks committed by immature students at the beginning of ‘after-break’, re-entering the academy life not sitting well with everyone. One of the first patients she got was the boy with green hair in the cooking club, something about a stomachache that came from someone possibly tampering with his food. He insisted he prepared it right and that someone was pranking him until her head was pounding from the lack of caffeine, so she gave him some nausea pills and shooed him out.
Two delinquents entered next, much to Nasu’s surprise. The injured one had a gray shirt while the friend strangely helping him walk wore red. Usually the delinquents were too proud to get any injury treated, at least from what she had been told about their rocky past. That had been something she would have to ask the previous nurse about if she could, but no one seemed to know where she was. Oh well.
“Some quiet bitch beat him up,” Red Shirt spat. “I’m Gaku Hikitsuri, this is Dairoku Surikizu. No, he’s not Hayanari. There was a name switch way after the author started writing about us. Ignore it, and just swap the two names when referring to them. They aren’t changing it just because the creator had to be indecisive. Fuck canon.”
Nasu ended up examining Gaku as well to make sure he hadn’t hit his head after talking about such things.
“He’s fine,” Dairoku groaned from a half-conscious state.
The whole time the delinquent rested on his cot, his friend Gaku refused to leave his side. They even ate lunch right next to each other with their hands inches apart. The poor nurse shook her head, blaming the lack of caffeine on what she saw. After the two left, she was alone the rest of the day to ponder how the school year would go on.
Chapter 2: April 2nd, 2026: Nasu Kankoshi Won’t Give Advice
Chapter Text
“Do you know anything about making someone less lonely?”
It’s the 2nd of April 2026, and Nasu tells the student she doesn’t. Honestly, she doesn’t know why he’s asking her in the first place instead of a teacher or even a literal friend.
“There’s this guy in the Sports Club who everyone says is a former delinquent, and everyone ignores him. But I could make him some of my food because it’s healthy and he’s an athelete, right? He’ll like it!” She can’t argue with him (especially when he speaks so quickly she can’t get in a word edgewise). “And uh, he looks lonely. It was making me sad. Thanks.” Kenko gets off the cot and runs off just as soon as a screaming, firey redheaded girl is escorted in by another girl with shorter blonde pigtails.
Honestly, the time it took Nasu to unlock the medicine cabinets and pop the discount aspirin into her mouth was long enough that she hoped that they would just go away. No such luck, of course. The redhead Osana had sprained her toe kicking a faulty drink machine, which she coldly reminded her she could be reported for damaging school property. Of course she didn’t actually tell anyone and used it to blackmail her into quieting down. Hey, no one said she didn’t use underhanded methods as well.
“Maybe someone messed with it?” the friend Raibaru asked, still clutching her friend’s arm. “The machine, I mean.”
Unlikely, but something in the way she looked so actually scared for the girl prevented the nurse from saying so.
Chapter 3: April 5th, 2026: Nasu Kankoshi Meets Unagi
Chapter Text
It’s the 5th of April 2026, and you’d think Friday would be calmer than it was. Nasu was staring right back at Kenko, escorted in by a surprisingly-bashful Sports Club member. It turned out to be Unagi, the former delinquent the other green-haired boy had talked her ear off about a couple days ago. Otohiko, a sickly boy and frequent patient, turned curiously in his cot to listen to the story.
Kenko explained he went to offer the Sports Club (and not just his obvious crush) some food he made, only for Unagi to stop his jogging a bit too late. Both of them ended up falling on the rough track, Kenko getting the brunt of it as he acted as a cushion. He still had the dented tray of ruined finger foods at his side for some reason. Unagi had escorted him to the nurse since he felt so bad about the collision.
Whatever. Hazu was peeking at Otohiko again and darting away before he thought Nasu could notice his behavior. Was love always in the air so early in the springtime? She wasn’t paid enough to care in the first place, of course, but these were still entertaining developments in her day.
“Ma’am, why are you smiling?” Otohiko asked curiously. No reason at all, she told him. They were just endearing to her.
Chapter 4: April 8th, 2026: Nasu Kankoshi Has Every Right to Worry
Chapter Text
It’s the 8th of April 2026, and Nasu hadn’t forgotten her coffee today. However, the extra-large cup in her hand wasn’t near enough when she found Hazu and Otohiko holding hands while lying together in one cot. Did they seriously get there before her just so they can do that? She cleared her throat, trying not to laugh at how quickly they jumped apart.
“S - Sensei!” Hazu sputtered. “I - I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to get here so early! Sorry f - for entering your office!”
She tells him not to worry about it with a roll of her eyes fonder than she intends. The two delinquents stopped by again, both with minor injuries that they didn’t talk about. They also seemed to be looking into each other’s eyes sort of intensely. Hmm. They glared when she opened her mouth before it could form any words, so she closed it and acted like they could intimidate someone in her position.
Where was Kenko or Unagi? Usually Kenko would be in her office talking her ear off about his gay crush on the boy, or Unagi would be with him after some incident with the two klutzy students. A week was a bit soon to call it routine, perhaps, but even the first two residents of the day looked concerned.
“Hey, you.” The deep voice caused Nasu to jump. The temporary Sports Club leader named Itachi was crossing his arms. “Ma’am,” he added as an afterthought. How polite. “Have you seen one of my club members? Green hair, keeps spending time with another guy with green hair?” No, not today. Was he having trouble finding the two as well? Otohiko was looking a bit more alert than usual, one hand still clutching Hazu’s.
In the end, the redhead left without any new information. Nasu herself, along with her patients, were left with a deep sense of worry.
Chapter 5: April 9th, 2026: Nasu Kankoshi Says Gay Rights
Chapter Text
It’s the 9th of April 2026, and Nasu can’t hear herself think over Itachi’s ranting. Somewhere in the middle of the verbal assault flowing past his scowling lips she figured out he found both Kenko and Unagi, together. Kissing in the pool room of all places, actually. She wouldn’t be able to stomach the chlorine smell herself, but that was neither here nor there. Hazu looked extremely uncomfortable next to an odd emotionless girl as Itachi continued to yell until she finally told him to knock it off and leave, which he did in a huff.
“What were you saying?” Hazu nearly whispered to the girl (Ayano?). “I - I’m not sure what else to talk to h - him about.”
The “him” in question was probably Otohiko. Again, she had no room to judge since being in healthcare prepared her for this (as it should for all health professionals, hint hint) and all kinds of patients, but she had never seen so much open LGBT+ activity in her life. What was it about Akademi? What even was Akademi, in the grand scheme of things?
Ayano’s face was perfectly blank when she gave her advice to the shy boy. It was fantastic advice, sound and straight to the point and a bit strange to hear from someone like her. Hazu seemed to take it all to heart, nodding the whole time and repeating it back to her with a little stuttering. She nodded once she was finished, then got up and disappeared just as quietly as she had appeared earlier.
Creepy.
Otohiko showed up late as always, visibly surprised to find company waiting for him in the form of Hazu. As if it would be anyone else. The two sat and talked quietly together like the day before, only scooting closer and holding hands when they seemed to think Nasu wasn’t watching. She was obviously watching out of the corner of her eye and said nothing, her eyes just brightening slightly at the sight of Kenko and Unagi appearing in the window.
Chapter 6: April 10th, 2026: Nasu Kankoshi Has No Sympathy
Chapter Text
It’s the 10th of April 2026, and Nasu had quite the unpleasant guest in her office.
“And then he punched me for no reason!” Musume whined, clutching her bloody nose. It wasn’t broken at least, but it still had to be quite painful for her.
She was complaining for several more minutes as the nurse tried to tune her out, thinking happy thoughts. She didn’t hold the student in very high regard knowing who she was, which was a spoiled rich girl. She could see right through her.
“It was that one jerk Sports Club guy with the green hair, the former delinquent? He totally has been arrested before! I just know it!”
Nasu almost dropped the bandages in her hands at this revelation. Unagi punched a woman in the face? What would possess him to do such a thing? There had to be a misunderstanding, but she didn’t speak up on it. It’s not like she couldn’t get the truth out later from someone else.
That “someone else” ended up not coming until five minutes to six, Nasu having already cleaned everything up and taken out the trash. Unagi surprised her in the doorway, looking absolutely furious next to Kenko. Kenko was just staring at the ground with a blank expression, as if he didn’t even know where he was. “Ma’am,” he greeted her. She said his name back in return, then he told her a story that had her blood boiling.
The couple had been walking down the hallway holding hands when Musume had apparently suggested Kenko shove a few carrots up his rear end, followed by a few slurs. Unagi punched her in the face before he even knew what had happened and was caught by a student council member immediately. He had been late visiting due to sitting in the counselor’s office for a lecture.
“She made me so mad,” he explained. “I know you’re not supposed to hit women, but…”
But indeed.
Chapter 7: April 12th, 2026: Nasu Kankoshi Hates Carrots
Chapter Text
It’s the 12th of April 2026, and boy have things been interesting.
Nasu ended up going to Genka Kunahito to lodge her own complaint against Musume and give her own side. She stressed how she had grown fond of Unagi, and that there was no indication that he was going back to his old ways of his delinquent past.
“He does have a criminal record,” is what she had gotten in response at first, along with asking if that made her see him differently. She had looked annoyed at the counselor, firmly informing her she already knew and would need to try harder with her. The embarrassed authority figure at least had the decency to accept this and punish the perpetrator instead of one of the actual victims.
Anyways, the first patient to come in was Otohiko again. He showed up almost as soon as lunch began and wordlessly got into bed, Hazu following after a few minutes later. “C - can I spend my lunch in here?” the darker-haired boy asked, rubbing his arm. Nasu nodded, and he smiled back. “Thank you.” The two sat in reasonable silence for the rest of lunch, the only other person coming in being Beshi with a slight headache that was easily fixed.
“Was it you?”
Nasu was just closing up her office once again after a very boring day, almost dropping a roll of bandages with a start. She turned to the doorway to see the one who had spoken was Unagi, flanked by Kenko looking a bit brighter today. She replied saying she didn’t know what he meant.
“The one who got me out of trouble. Ma’am, was it you?” he clarified.
She smiled back. She didn’t know what he was talking about.
“You’re the best!” Kenko blurted out. “You’re even better than the weird girl that gave me all my carrots that I needed!”
Unagi’s focus was taken off the nurse at this, raising an eyebrow. “I still don’t know what you’re going to do with all of them.”
“I’m going to tie you up in my basement and force-feed them all to you, according to the rumors.” He said it with such a serious look on his face.
“Joke’s on you, I’m into that.”
Okay, get the hell out of Nasu’s office immediately.
