Should I Jump?

Summary:

Aimsey has too much to figure out and simply struggles with that. (Episode 7 ending essentially, except not the glitch stuff,)

Notes:

Hello hello! I remain obsessed over Asmp, so I decided to write this at 1 in the morning :D (I'm gonna sleep after dwdw)
This is based off the end of episode 7, so spoilers kinda, and also some tw's
Mainly for some suicidal ideation and altogether a breakdown

But I hope you like this!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Aimsey glanced back a few times as he ran off towards the mountains just ahead. Okay, maybe she'd killed Baxter, but, to be fair, it was an accident.

Maybe they felt a little bad about sending Jimmy off to look for the dog, but Aimsey could just get him another! Eventually.

"Aimsey, you're strong." They kept repeating. It was true! It had to be! He was strong!

And those two dogs, they were normal too! Normal and they knew nothing about anything that was weird! (Even if the cool leather in her hands said otherwise.)

Soon, he came upon the mountains, making their way up the side surprisingly quickly, even while holding the worn leather book in a death grip. (See? He's strong! Not weak at all!)

At the grassy top of the mountain, Aimsey looked out at what little of the world was visible. In reality, it was little, right? Even if it looked way bigger than such a little prince could handle. (However violent that prince may be.)

(After all, she was violent, wasn't he? They'd killed someone.)

Aimsey blinked out of the small train of thought they'd gotten into, taking a breath before looking at the book. The cover was quite simple, worn brown leather, though it had, etched in black, the word 'STOP'.

She opened the book after another moment passed, reading the small, neat, script.

"The seekers..?" That didn't make sense, it didn't! What were those dots and lines underneath? "O B E?" What did that mean?

Aimsey closed the book with a yell, even if it wasn't directed to anything or anyone this time, unless maybe some form of deity existed.

"I'm done! I'm done with these- with these games-!" His voice was cracking, "I just want the answers, please!"

She stared up at the sky, the clouds, the sun.

"I don't want to- I don't want to keep doing this-! Task after task, quest after quest- I just want answers- I don't- how many more people will I have to kill until I get that-?"

They looked down the cliff edge, feeling a sense of vertigo.

"Please- I just-" He broke off, it would be quite a long fall, wouldn't it? Long enough to...

"Would it be easier if I just-" She broke off, the last word going known, but unsaid.

They quickly shook their head, taking several long steps away from the edge.

No, he wouldn't think like that. She had to keep going, right?

Yes. Keep going. Go talk to Guqqie even. The little fox. (Maybe she felt his cheeks heat a bit even thinking about the little fox. Maybe.)

"I'll find Guqqie." They said, as though confirming it aloud made it more solid, something that wouldn't change. (Unlike everything else.)

Aimsey looked back at the cliff one more time, then turned and walked into the trees again. This time, to go home. (Even if Guqqie had stolen his castle.)

She was going home, to their castle, to the moon, to Guqqie.
