Chapter Text
The first time its consciousness emerged, the first thing it saw was the smiling face of an ethereal being who, a few seconds later it found out, was its creator. A fallen angel who is the king of Hell.
The second creature it saw was its creator's charming daughter, the being it was tasked to shelter, protect, and provide for as long as it existed.
The next one was a black cat with which it senses a close connection. Understandable as it was the lock to the other's key.
A few moments later, it got its first name: the Happy Hotel.
It was once a vacation house (mansion) for the royal family, repurposed into a hotel where sinners are checked in and get redeemed through rehabilitation.
It may look rundown, with its exterior and interior suffering from being in a state of extreme disrepair and untidiness. It may appear haphazard, with it being an amalgamation of a tall building, a sailing ship, a carousel, a circus tent, and several signages.
It may seem messy but it was home. And it became more and more like home when it heard laughter in its halls and singing on its floors.
In the first year of its consciousness' existence, its only inhabitants are the two members of the royal family and the princess' significant other, who it later learned was named Vaggie.
(She smells and feels like its creator albeit less powerful and lacking the appendages for flying.
In addition, its creator is celestial, and Vaggie, while beautiful, is more moth-like in appearance.
No offense to the lady.
It might be its bias talking, though, in its defense, it would have never existed if not for its creator.)
The family of three (or is it four? There's this red cursed-looking cat who's always near its creator) grew when a resident checked in.
A tall spider demon called Angel Dust. Research says this demon is an adult film star, a sex worker. And while it initially felt disappointed at the demon's crude and crass personality, looking into the sinner's history has changed its opinion.
Yes, this Angel Dust may appear flippant and callous, however, he seems to be preemptively defensive and hides much of his true, more sensitive and insecure, self. This mechanism may be for protection from those who have hurt and continuously hurt him.
(It strives to provide the safety this pitiful sinner needs. But it can only do so much and as a sentient hotel, it cannot keep this sinner safe from harm when he's out of its area of protection.)
(It once asked for its creator to rid of the spider demon's abuser. Unfortunately, it cannot be done. Tsk, politics.)
(It may also be the fact that its creator is becoming more and more heavy-eyed.
It's alarming.)
Things have become worrying as its creator spends more and more hours asleep. It and the young princess are starting to believe that something is wrong with the creator.
Their concern grew when its creator spent three days sleeping.
"I don't know, Vaggie. Dad sleeping for this long has never happened."
"Perhaps this same situation already occurred during the years he wasn't with you."
"I don't know. I'm worried. Even the hotel is feeling distressed."
It was when its creator woke up following a week-long slumber did they received an explanation for their concern.
His physical body is in need of years-long rest. And while he cannot physically respond or do anything within those years, he would still be able to interact mentally.
(The creator never did explain the reason for his physical body's exhaustion. It tried to peek through its creator's memories but...)

If thou gaze long into an abyss, the abyss will also gaze into thee.

For the first time since it came into existence,
It felt a cold shrouding fear.
Its creator sleeps.
And years later, after suffering from ongoing mockery and criticism (oh how it wishes to have the power to disintegrate those rude demons. Moreover, its creator feels the same!), it was renamed the Hazbin Hotel.
Not so very clever but it still gave the radio demon, Alastor, some points for creativity.
The appearance of the radio demon came as a surprise to it and its residents.
(Except for its creator. The King of Hell seems to anticipate the arrival of the red, ever-smiling sinner. Isn't its creator magnificent?)
The Hazbin Hotel was initially upset at the radio demon as the sinner installed a small radio broadcasting room on its top right without its permission. Its feelings were only soothed by its creator's request for patience and accommodation. After all, one of its life missions is to provide for the needs of its inhabitants, and unfortunately, this red, disrespectful demon is now its facility manager.
(Augh.)
It began tolerating the demon after he started noticing the sentience of the hotel, and every now and then, talked to it regarding his plans for the establishment.
(Albeit the radio demon initially thought the hotel was haunted. Rude.)
The hotel has also begun feeling fond of its new employees: the hyper maid Nifty and the grumpy bartender Husk.
The little agile sinner demon is such a delight! Moreover, it appreciates how she kept it free from nasty bugs.
The avian cat demon, on the other hand, while gruff and standoffish, is quite observant. He's definitely suited to be its bartender! If only he could understand it, the two of them would surely have fun gossiping about the issues of its residents.
(It knows that being gossipy is unbecoming of it. But come on... Even a sentient hotel can get bored.
Although it does enjoy the occasional idle talk it and its creator share when he's mentally awake enough for it.
The amount of secrets shared could blackmail even the toughest of Sins.
Who knew that the embodiment of Wrath could be such a romantic!)
Everything would be perfect if only outside demons would stop blasting its walls. While it didn't suffer any pain from the minor destruction of its walls, it still felt irritated.
It would also be excellent if its creator fully wakes up.
Especially with the looming threat of extermination just around the corner.
