Chapter Text

Prologue

Six-year-old Harry Potter sat in a tree behind Number 4 Privet Drive, his legs swinging back and forth. His vibrant, Avada Kedavra green eyes sparkled in the orange glow that lit up his face and his button nose twitched as the smell of burning wood reached him. He giggled softly as the sound of his “Aunt” and “Uncle's” screams came from within the house. Harry watched the house burn brightly as flames licked the skies. The house was fully engulfed, and his relatives were trapped inside, thanks to him. He could feel the heat on his skin from where he was sitting, keeping him warm against the November almost December chill. His sensitive ears picked up sirens in the distance and he wasn't the only one who heard them.

Movement below him made Harry look down at the man standing under him. He was a tall man, standing about six foot seven and thick with muscle. His ‘eyebrows’ took up almost his whole forehead in thin layers of ‘fur’ that reached up and into his hairline to slicked back black hair that reached the tops of his shoulders. The ‘fur’ continued down the side of his face to his square jaw creating a soft black beard. His steel blue eyes turned from the burning house and up to the child above him. This man was Fenrir Greyback, leader of the largest Werewolf pack in Britain.

“I believe that is our queue to leave pup,” Fenrir said.

Harry pouted down at him. “Aw, can't we stay for a few more minutes?” Harry asked.

Fenrir chuckled at him. “Afraid not, pup. We don't want the Muggle authorities to find us, plus it's past your bedtime.” The man pushed off the tree and held his arms out. “Come on now.”

Harry pouted some more and looked back at the house. “But…” he paused to listen but all he could hear was the crackling of the fire.

Fenrir noticed his pause and looked back at the house then smirked. “Sounds like they're dead,” he said looking back up at Harry, “I don't hear anymore screaming.” The little boy in the tree let out a big sigh before he slid off the branch and fell into Fenrir's awaiting arms. The man chuckled and held the child firmly in his arms, so they were at eye level.

“You know,” said Fenrir after they were a fair distance from Privet Drive, “I'm surprised you let the boy live.”

Harry shrugged lightly at that. “Dudley may be spoiled and a bully but that's because of his parents. Maybe if he was in a house with nice people who aren’t afraid to discipline him, he could change. You took care of Marge, right?”

Fenrir chuckled. “She is dead along with that dog, Ripper,” he said. “I let the other dogs live to feed on her corpse.” The child smiled a devilish grin at him revealing two sharpened canines that made Fenrir laugh. He ruffled Harry's hair then gave him a quick warning before apparating away from Surry.

They reappeared in a dark forest, so dark the moonlight could barely be seen through the trees. Fenrir set Harry down on the forest floor in case he ended up throwing up. The boy did look a bit green and coughed a couple times but thankfully did not throw up. Harry took a few gulping breaths as he reoriented himself. Once the world stopped spinning, he turned back to Fenrir and raised his arms. The man chuckled and lifted the child back into his arms. Harry snuggled up against him and rested his head on Fenrir's shoulder.

They were silent as they made their way through the forest. After about a half an hour's walk they passed through wards which revealed a clearing. In the clearing there were about twenty small cabins scattered about. There was a larger building in the very back that could barely be seen because of the other cabins. One cabin was a bit bigger than the rest but smaller then the back building, and was centered in the middle of the clearing. In front of the cabin was a large communal area with logs and stumps for seating, all scattered around a large fire pit. The fire pit was nothing but smoldering embers by this point and only one person was seated in front of it.

Hearing the two approach, the seated man stood and bowed to them. “Welcome back Alpha, Prince,” he said. The man was a bit smaller than Fenrir, standing only about six foot three, but his structure was just as muscular, though a bit more on the slimmer side.

Fenrir nodded to the man as he stopped before him. “How are things?”

The man stood to full height. “Quiet,” he said. “The pack went to bed about an hour ago, pups at around eight, and the guards are out on lookout.”

Harry watched as the man ran a hand through his wiry brown hair. Fenrir introduced this man to Harry a month ago. His name was Antoni, and he was Fenrir's beta or second in command. He looked after the pack when the alpha was away.

Fenrir nodded and patted Antoni on the shoulder. “Good,” he said. “Go and get some rest. The pup and I are also going to call it a night as well.”

Antoni nodded his head. “Yes sir, have a good night,” he said. He bowed again before turning around to head to his own cabin.

Fenrir adjusted his hold on Harry as he walked to the largest cabin. Once inside he set Harry down on the floor. “Teeth, pajamas, bed,” he said. “I'll be in shortly.”

Harry looked up at him and nodded. “Okay Daddy,” he said, then rushed off.

Fenrir couldn't help but smile as he watched his pup toddle up the stairs on all fours. To think a month ago he never thought he would see his children again. Color him surprised when Gringotts sends him a correspondence that his youngest had been located.

“One down,” Fenrir muttered, “two to go.” He took a deep breath then took off his trench coat and tossed it on the back of a couch.

The man moved through the cabin to a quaint little kitchen and opened the ice box. He pulled out a bottle of milk then walked over to the stove, grabbing a pan on his way. Placing the pan on the stove he poured the milk into it then lit the stove with his wand. As it heated, he grabbed a can on a shelf over the sink and a spoon from a drawer. Moving back to the stove he opened the can and put four spoonful’s of chocolate powder into the milk. He stirred the mixture until steam started to rise then used his wand to extinguish the fire. He grabbed a mug then used his wand to transfer the hot chocolate to the mug without spilling.

Once he was done, Fenrir made his way up the stairs to tuck his pup into bed and tell him more stories about himself and his other parents; also, to make a promise that he will find his pup's brother and sister.

Notes:

I KNOW I KNOW THE CHAPTER IS SHORT. It's just a prologue, it doesn't have to be long.

What you do guys think? Do you like it? Should I keep going? The next chapter will be up hopefully soon. I just don't know exactly when. I should really make a posting schedule....

Harry wakes up in a strange place and learns something that will change his life forever.

Notes:

YAY! I'm so excited to have this next chapter up. I appreciate all your comments. This chapter is going up sooner then I thought it would LOL but here it is. I tend to get writers block and end up leaving a story for months on end. I really like this story so I hope it won't happen. I should probably make a posting schedule but I know my ADHD brain most likely won't follow through... unless I made a deadline... hmmmmmmm

Anyway, Hope you all like this chapter and if you like my writing, please make sure to check out my other Harry Potter story, Hart of Black.

Chapter One: Hospitals and History

Pain, that was the last thing six year old Harry Potter remembers. Pain and his uncle’s fist flying towards his face and then darkness. Harry had been cleaning the upstairs like his aunt told him to when Uncle Vernon came home late from work. By the look on the man’s face, he was in an extremely bad mood. When Vernon started coming up the stairs, Harry darted into Dudley’s playroom and began ‘picking up toys’ he had already picked up. To do so, he took a couple out of the toy box and a couple off the shelves so when Vernon passed the room, Harry made sure to look like he was putting them away. Once the man had passed and went into the bathroom, the boy let out the breath he was holding.

Quietly, Harry left Dudley’s playroom and tiptoed down the hallway. He had made it to the first step at the top of the stairs when the bathroom door banged up. Harry jumped in surprise and whirled around to see his uncle’s ugly purple face staring right at him. His heart picked up in his chest as the large man came stomping towards him and grabbed him by the front of his shirt.

Harry was so frightened, with his blood rushing in his ears, that he only picked up a few words that Vernon was screaming at him. ‘Clean’, ‘Useless’, and ‘Freak’ were some of the words Harry caught as his uncle spit in his face. The next thing the boy knows is he is being slammed into the wall behind. Vernon’s hand had gone from Harry’s shirt to his throat and he was squeezing. With his airway being cut off, panic set in so Harry grabbed a hold of his uncle’s hand to try and pull him off. Which, in hindsight, was no good because Vernon was a lot stronger than a small malnourished boy. Struggling to breath, Harry did the only thing he could think of and that was scratching Vernon’s hand.

Big Mistake. Vernon screamed and pulled his hand away making the boy fall to the floor. Harry caught sight of blood gushing out of Vernon’s hand as he stood up. That… seems like too much blood for the boy’s small hand. Confused, Harry looked down at his hands and saw that his nails had elongated into sharp points. His surprise didn’t last long as Vernon once again came at Harry and the boy only had enough time to look up before his uncle's fist smashed into his face. The force of the punch caused Harry to fall backwards… down the stairs. That was the last thing he remembered.

As Harry slowly came to, he realized a couple of things; one, he didn’t have any pain, two, the room smelled like lavender (Aunt Petunia hates lavender), and three, the room was quiet. He couldn’t hear the sound of the T.V nor could he hear Aunt Petunia walking around in the kitchen. Another thing he noticed was that he was comfortable. The mattress beneath him was soft and he was warm. That’s strange, he was always cold while in his cupboard and his mattress was very uncomfortable. Confused, Harry slowly opened his eyes only to close them quickly as light assaulted his eyes. Why was there so much light in his cupboard?

Harry took a steading breath before opening his eyes, little by little so they would adjust to the light. Once they were fully opened he looked up to see a high ceiling made of gray stone. Golden chandeliers hung on chains, they’re candles casting more light then Harry thought possible for candles. This was definitely not his cupboard. Turning his head to the right, the boy saw a row of beds beside him, there were at least 6 that he could count. At the end of the room were too large dark mahogany doors with small intricate detailing that he couldn’t make out from where he was laying.

Blinking rapidly, another realization dawned on Harry, his vision was no longer blurry. Excitement bubbled up in his chest and he darted his eyes around the room wanting to take it all in. By the looks of the room it appeared to be a hospital. He had never been to a hospital before but he had seen one just like this in an old World War II movie that his uncle had watched on the telly. There were at least twenty beds on either side of the room, each of the beds had a nightstand and a chair. There was what looked to be a nurses station in the middle of the beds on the wall opposite him, and a much smaller door on the wall at the left end of the room. The walls of the room were made of gray stone and there were only windows on Harry’s side of the room. Which, now that he thought about it, was what was the cause of the brightness and not the candles and it was most likely the late morning or early afternoon, as it was nearly sunset when Uncle Vernon got home.

Hearing the door to the left open, Harry immediately closed his eyes and pretended to be asleep. He listened as someone’s shoes clicked across the floor coming near him. They rummaged around the nursed station and then came closer. They stopped just beside his bed.

“Good morning, young prince,” the person said. The person's voice was soft, if not a bit scratchy. “No need to pretend, you can open your eyes.”

Harry huffed and opened his eyes which then widened at the sight of the ‘person’ in front of him. Standing before him was a creature who looked like they'd be the same height as himself, if not a little taller. The creature had pointed ears, small dark eyes, wrinkles around its long hooked nose and chin, and razor sharp teeth. They were wearing what looked like a white coat Harry has seen doctors wear on the T.V shows Petunia watches. Under the coat they wore a lilac colored blouse, dark pants, and heeled black leather boots. They also had pale colored hair that was pulled into a chignon.

The creature chuckles softly, creating more wrinkles around their eyes. “Surprised I see,” she said, at least Harry thought it was a female judging on the softness and higher tone of her voice. “I am Healer Laurigo and before you ask I am a goblin. It is a pleasure to meet you young prince.” Laurigo bowed her head slightly to him.

Harry looked at her confused. “Prince?” he asked. “I think you might have me confused with someone else, I'm no Prince.”

“Well, of course you are, love,” said Laurigo as she straightened. “Not only is it one of your last names, it is also your rank amongst us creatures.” Harry just continued to look confused. Laurigo sighed heavily. “I can see we have a lot to explain to you. Why don't we start with some simple questions.”

“W-what kind of questions?” asked Harry hesitantly.

“Just simple ones,” said Laurigo as she pulled over the chair next to his bed and sat on it. “How about this, I ask you a question then you can ask me a question. How does that work?”

Was this supposed to be a trick question? Harry knew what happened when he asked questions and it wasn't good. “I… I'm not a-allowed to ask questions.”

Laurigo looks at him surprised now. “Who says?!” she said. Her voice rose a little in indignation.

Harry settled back more into the bed, resting against his pillows. “My aunt,” he said meekly.

“Nonsense,” exclaimed Laurigo. “Tis in a child's nature to ask questions. How will you ever learn if you can't ask questions? No, love, you can ask any question you like and I will do my best to answer them. If you like, why don't you ask first?”

Harry thought about it for a minute. He was being given permission to ask questions and not get in trouble for it. He looked at Laurigo carefully and he couldn't see an ounce of deception on her face. All he could see were kind, warm dark eyes and a soft smile. No one had ever looked at him like that… well no… Mrs. Figg often looked at him like that as did his teacher for the first week of school. That is until his aunt and uncle got their claws into the teacher and told her that Harry was a problem child after Dudley had beat him up on the playground. Considering Laurigo’s offer, Harry nodded.

         “O-okay,” he said softly.

Laurigo smiled at him and got comfortable. “Very good,” she said. “Now love, what is it that you would like to ask me? Doesn’t matter how silly or stupid you think the question might be. As my father always says, ‘No question is a stupid question.’ My father is a scholar and believes knowledge to be the center of the universe.” The goblin gave a small airy type laugh that made Harry smile.

Taking a breath, Harry decided on his first question. “Where am I?”

“You are at the London branch of Gringotts Wizarding Bank,” said Laurigo. “Currently you are in our hospital bay.” She gave a wave of her clawed hand to the room around them and gave him another smile. “Now, my turn.”

Harry’s mind whirled with more questions he wanted to ask. Wizarding? Bank? Wizard meant magic and magic, as he has been told many times, is not real. He halted his thoughts, storing his new questions till it was his turn and looked back at her.

Laurigo waited patiently as he processed her words until he made eye contact again and nodded. She nodded back. “Now, seeing your confusion earlier, what do you think your name is?”

The boy tilted his head to the side. He had only recently learned his name when he started school two months ago. He remembered Laurigo saying that Prince was one(?) of his names. Another question to ask. “Harry Potter,” he said softly, “but… you said my name is… Prince?”

The goblin nodded her head. “Indeed,” she said. “And yes, Harry Potter is your name but it is not your true name. I’ll tell you your first name, but for your whole name we will have to wait for your account manager. Your name is Hydrus, named after the water serpent constellation.”

Hydrus? Harry, honestly, liked that better than ‘Harry’. Account manager? Again he stored that away for a future question. “Okay,” he said quietly.

“Now, can you tell me how old you are, love?” asked Laurigo.

“Six,” the boy replied. “How did I get here?”

Laurigo’s face turned solemn at that question. “We here at Gringotts get a special alert to let us know when a child is in danger,” she said. “This alert unfortunately does not work for every wixen child, only wixen children with creature blood in their veins. Said creature blood will activate when the child is in danger, typically in life or death situations, to help protect itself. It is extremely uncommon to have a child as young as yourself, activate their creature blood. Anyway, this special system was created by the creature clans to protect our offspring should they ever find themself in perilous circumstances. When the alert went off a small team of goblins went to your home where they found you on the verge of death. They whisked you away and brought you here, to me. Thankfully my team and I were able to save you.”

Harry- Hydrus’ eyes widened. “I almost died?” he asked. Realizing he asked a question out of turn he smacked his hand on his mouth.

Laurigo just smiled at him. “It’s alright, love,” she said and patted his leg. “Yes, you almost died. You were found near your front door banged, bruised, and bloody with a large gash on your head. Head wounds can be very dangerous as they bleed a lot and cause trauma to the brain. Your spine was also damaged and I must say you’re quite lucky it wasn’t broken. It took many hours of magic and potions to reverse the damage caused by your injuries, though you had a lot more underlying problems we did not foresee. Do you remember what happened, dear?”

Hydrus nodded slowly and looked down at his hands. “I…” he stopped. What was he supposed to say? Every time he had ever tried to tell someone of the treatment he received, no one ever believed him. He wanted to tell her, he really did but telling always ended in pain and misery.

Seeing the boy struggle, Laurigo reached over and patted his head causing him to look up at her. “It’s alright, love,” she said soothingly. “No one here is going to hurt you.”

It took a minute of staring and contemplation before Hydrus nodded. He took a deep breath. “I- I was cleaning the upstairs. Uncle Vernon came home from work and he was mad. I tried to stay out of the way by going into Dudley’s playroom. When I tried to go downstairs… Uncle Vernon caught me… started yelling. He… he grabbed me and tried to choke me, so I scratched him but… my nails…” he looked down at them, “they became really sharp and Uncle Vernon was bleeding a lot. He got even madder and…” the boy’s face turned red and his eyes welled with tears. Why was he about to cry? It wasn’t uncommon for him to get hit.

Hydrus reached a hand up to wipe at his nose, which had started to run. “T-then Uncle Vernon… h-hit me and I f-fell d-down the stairs,” he whimpered. He drew his legs to his chest and wrapped his arms around them, hiding his face in his knees. Maybe it was that fact that Uncle Vernon had never actively tried to kill him before is what was making him so upset. Sure he has had plenty of beatings, bloody noses, broken bones, but never once had he almost died. Not even when they withheld food from him had he almost died. A sob escaped his chest.

Movement beside him and the bed dipped as Laurigo sat on the bed next to him and pulled him into her arms. “Oh, sweet child,” she said softly and rocked him from side to side. “It’s alright now. You’re safe. No one is ever going to hurt you again, I promise.” It took a few minutes for the boy to calm himself and when he did, Laurigo conjured a pitcher and poured him a glass of water. “Here drink this, slowly.”

Hydrus carefully took the glass of water from her and drank about half of it before handing it back. He then took the offered tissue she held out to him to wipe his eyes and blow his nose. Laurigo didn't even make a face when she took it from him to throw away at the nurses station.

“I'm sorry,” said Hydrus as he sniffed and sat back against his pillows.

The healer walked back over to him, retaking her chair. “No need to be sorry, love,” said Laurigo and gave him another warm smile. “I believe it's your turn to ask a question.

The boy thought for a second. Wanting to get off the topic of his uncle he went back to his first round of thought. “You said, wizarding, as in like wizards and… magic. Does that mean magic is real?”

Laurigo nodded to him. “Indeed it is,” she said. “I take it you were told it wasn't.” It wasn't a question but Hydrus nodded all the same. “I take it to also mean you know nothing about our world, yes?”

Again Hydrus nodded. “I didn't know that… there was a wizarding world, ” he said. “Why did no one tell me the truth?”

“Unfortunately, that I cannot answer little one,” said Laurigo with a heavy sigh. “What I can tell you is that when you were just a baby you were stolen from your birth parents. Your kidnapping was top news amongst the creature clan. Then you were apparently given to the Potters who adopted you and we didn’t learn of this until almost a year after you had been missing.” She held up a hand as Hydrus opened his mouth. “No one knows who took you. What I do know is that when your father went to retrieve you. The Potter's were killed, your father disappeared, and you were hailed a hero.”

Hydrus scrunched his brows together in confusion.

Laurigo chuckled at him. “Go ahead, ask your question,” she said.

Hydrus looked back at her. “But… it's your turn.” This made Laurigo laugh out loud. Her laugh was more of a joyous cackle and a little raspy. Many would probably think it was unsettling but Hydrus liked it for it made Laurigo's eyes sparkle.

“Oh, sweet child,” said Laurigo softly and grinned, her sharp teeth on full display. “Don't worry about me, I'll ask my questions later. Right now I want to help you understand your situation.”

A smile formed on Hydrus’ face and he nodded. “So,” he paused to clear his throat, “you said the Potter’s were killed though my aunt told me they were drunks and died in a car accident. So, that's not true then?” This was a question he had always wanted to know and never thought that what his aunt said was right. It didn't feel right.

A sneer formed on Laurigo’s face, her nose wrinkling in disgust. That was a little unsettling. “They were not drunks,” she said angrily. “That is definitely a lie child. The Potter’s were wonderful people, kind, and stood up for what they believed in. They were some of the few wixen who supported creature rights and they respected us goblins. Why, one of James Potter's best friends was a Werewolf.”

Hydrus knew she wasn't mad at him so, it didn't scare him that she was mad. He let out a sigh of relief hearing her words. It made his eyes sting a little. “You said they adopted me… does that mean that they… loved me?”

Laurigo’s smile returned to her face, making it soft once more. “Very much so,” she said. “So much so they went so far as to blood adopt you making you truly part of their family through blood. A blood adoption is a special and ancient ritual used to join orphan wixen to Magical families.”

Reaching up, Hydrus wiped at his eyes as they became warm with tears again. Though they weren't sad tears, he pushed them back nonetheless, he didn't want to cry again. “So, my father went to them to get me back… did… Did my father kill them?”

Laurigo hummed and leaned back in her seat. “That is what the wixen believe but we creatures think otherwise,” she said. “However, only your father knows the truth.”

“And you said he disappeared,” said Hyrdus as he filed her words away. “Right?”

“That is correct,” sighed Laurigo. “No one has seen or heard from him since that day. Many believe him to be dead.” She cleared her throat and sat up straighter. “The wixen story is that he went there to kill you, no one really knows why. They say that after he killed the Potter’s, when he tried to kill you the spell backfired and killed him instead.”

“Why do the wixen think my father wanted to kill me?” asked Hydrus, incredulously. “It just doesn't make sense. Why would my own father want me dead?”

The goblin pointed a finger at him gently. “Now that is the million galleon question,” she said then folded her hands in her lap. “Outside these walls you will hear many stories of an evil wizard who wanted to take over the wizarding world and kill all those who were not pure of blood. The man they refer to is named Voldemort. We creatures know the truth however, on who your father really was. He was a Saint to us creatures, wanting equal rights for us, and he himself was the Nagaraja of the Nagavanshi. He wanted to make the wizarding world completely separate from the muggle, non magical, world. He wanted all wixen children in muggle families to be integrated into the wizarding world much earlier than the age of eleven. That is when young wixen begin their education at Hogwarts. He believed that muggles weren't capable of caring for magical children.” She let out a long suffering sigh.

“However, the Ministry was convinced by Albus Dumbledore that taking muggleborn children from their families was a bad idea,” continued Laurigo, her dark eyes stared at the wall above the boy's head, “even if it meant that wixen families who had trouble having children, wouldn’t be able to adopt one. The Ministry is, unfortunately , wrapped around Dumbledore’s little finger.” Her lip twitched as she fought back another sneer.

“Who's Dumbledore?” Hyrus tilted his head slightly to the right in question.

Laurigo grumbled as she readjusted her doctor's coat. “The so-called Leader of the Light, ” she groused with a roll of her eyes. “Defeater of the Dark Wizard Grindlewald and First Class Order of Merlin. Chief Warlock of the Wizengamont, Supreme Mugwump of the ICW, and Headmaster of Hogwarts.” She could no longer fight the sneer that formed on her face, as if this man was nothing more than a bug on the bottom of her shoe. “A creature hating, muggle loving, son of a…” she stopped herself, wide eyes darting to him as if remembering he was in the room. Hydrus couldn't help but giggle as she cleared her throat and adjusted her posture, back ramrod straight and her hooked nose slightly tilted up in the air.

“Anyway,” she coughed, “your parents can explain more to you then I can.”

Smiling, Hydrus nodded. “What was it that you called my father?” he asked. “A Naga-rai… naga-va…”

“Nagaraja of the Nagavanshi,” Laurigo repeated slowly and clearly. “The Naga are a race of half human, half serpent like beings which, according to Hindu mythology, are the children of the Hindu vedic Sage, Kashyapa and his consort Kadru. The Nagavanshi are said to be the Nagas' human descendants. However, only the Nagavanshi that have magical blood are the ones who are true Nagas for they can change their human form and inherit all their abilities. The Naga kept the name Nagavanshi because it sounded more sophisticated. Nagaraja is their King.” She sat back and let the information stew in the child’s mind.

The wheels turned in Hydrus’ head for a short moment then it all clicked into place. Eyes wide, he sat up straight and looked at her in awe. “That’s why you called me a prince! Because my father is a King!”

Laughter bubbled out of Laurigo again. “Quick as a whip you are,” she said and clapped her hands. “If you’d like I can get you some books on Hindu mythology and the Naga.”

         Hydrus nodded excitedly. “Yes please!”

Another laugh and Laurigo nodded her head. “I’ll have them for you later in the afternoon,” she said. “Now, do you have any more questions you’d like to ask?”

The boy leaned back against his pillows and thought back over all their conversations with surprising clarity. Hydrus couldn’t remember a time where his head hadn’t been a foggy mess. It took him about five minutes or so before he remembered something Laurigo said in the beginning. “Just one,” he said. “Earlier you said my account manager would be able to tell me more about my names. Who is my account manager?”

Surprised, the goblin jumped from her seat, startling Hydrus in the process. “Oh dear me,” she said and dashed over to the nurses station. She was quick for someone so short. “I forgot to notify Dral that you were awake.” Grabbing a quill, she wrote a quick note on a piece of parchment and sent it flying to the door. Hydrus watched as the note slid under the door and out of sight. He turned his attention back to Laurigo as she sat back down. This time she had a clipboard and a quill, her ink pot floated in the air beside her. “While we wait, why don’t you answer some of my questions now, yes?”

Hydrus smiled and nodded his head. “Yes Ma’am,” he said. He could do this, she wasn’t nearly as scary when he first saw her and he would answer as best as he could. Just like she did for him.

Before Anyone says anything, I did do my research and everything I said about the Nagavanshi, Nagaraja, Kashyapa, and Kadru are all part of Hindu Mythology. Don't believe me go look it up for yourself :3 I kept the name Nagavanshi for my 'true magical' Naga's cause I thought it sounded prettier.

Anyway, hope you all liked it and please don't forget to check out my other Harry Potter story, Hart of Black.

Chapter Text

Chapter Two: Finding Family

While they waited for Dral, Laurigo questioned Hydrus about his home life. It made him uncomfortable to talk about at first but with reassurances from the healer that everything will be fine, he took a deep breath. They talked about all the chores he had to do, punishments he received, and his overall treatment by his so called ‘relatives’. The goblin healer also almost snapped her quill in half when he told her that his bedroom was the cupboard under the stairs. Laurigo was most upset about how often they would starve him. She had swore for a good three minutes in Gobbledegook, which had startled and intrigued the boy.

“That explains the malnutrition,” she had mumbled as she wrote on her clipboard. Laurigo then snapped her fingers and a bowl of soup with a glass of juice appeared on a tray over his lap. He wasn’t sure what kind of soup it was, he could see noodles, potatoes, carrots, kielbasa, and celery. The aroma of it made his mouth water and after he was given permission (“You don’t need my permission, love. It’s all for you.”) he reached for his spoon.

It was only at this point did Hydrus realize that he actually had bandages on his body. He had paused to see that his hands were wrapped in gauze and so was his chest. He hadn’t noticed before with everything that had happened and being distracted by Laurigo and the room itself. He’d also been informed that he had been asleep for nearly three days. With his hands wrapped he struggled to hold the spoon. Seeing him struggle, Laurigo switched out her regular quill for a dicta-quill and floated the clipboard beside her while she carefully fed him the soup. It was the best thing the boy had ever tasted.

While he was being fed they then went on to talk about the various injuries, most often then not, his punishments created. Again, Laurigo had sworn for a couple minutes before muttering about broken bones, fractures, lacerations and more, all while her dicta-quill scribbled away on her clipboard. Honestly, some of the things she mentioned didn’t make sense to him, like Myopia and Optic Neuropathies. She had to tell her quill to cross out all her swears.

By the time Dral had arrived after about thirty minutes, Hydrus had finished his soup, the bowl and glass of juice vanished, and the female goblin was in a silent seething rage, her dark eyes blazing. As soon as Dral had stepped into the room, Laurigo was out of her chair and making her way towards him and all but screaming at him in Gobbledegook. Even though Hydrus couldn’t understand them, it was quite obviously what they were talking about. Laurigo’s hand gestures and Dral’s eyes darting at him were a dead giveaway. Eventually though, Dral got Laurigo to calm down enough to stop yelling at him and the two made their way over to Hydrus.

As they came closer Hydrus took in Dral’s appearance. He was only a couple inches taller than Laurigo and he didn’t have nearly as much hair on his head as she did. He had a rather large bald spot on top of his head and pale, almost gray in color, hair on the sides. He also looked older than Laurigo, by how much Hydrus wasn’t sure but Dral definitely had more wrinkles than Laurigo whose face was much smoother around her cheeks, eyes, and forehead. Hydrus had only met the two but he had a feeling the nose and chin wrinkles were a normal thing, no matter the age. Dral was wearing pin-stripped black pants, a white shirt under a red vest, and an open black tailcoat with silver fastenings. There was also a silver chain going from the center button of his vest to his left hand pocket and Dral was using a cane in his right hand.

After sitting back in her chair, Laurigo floated over another chair for Dral to sit. The older goblin sat down with a grunt and placed his cane between his knees, resting both hands on it. His dark eyes then fell onto Hydrus. “Good afternoon, young heir,” he said gruffly.

Hydrus bowed his head in greeting. “Hello Master Dral,” he said, “may your coffers ever flow.” Laurigo had given him a small rundown on goblin greetings while they waited as well. She gave him a proud smile.

Dral looked surprised before smirking and nodded his head. “And may your enemies fall at your feet, Prince Hydrus,” he said. The goblin cleared his throat and leaned back in his chair. “I’ve no doubt you have lots of questions, yes?”

“Yes, sir,” replied Hydrus. He folded his hands in his lap. “Healer Laurigo said you’ll be able to tell me… who I am… and who my parents are. That’s my first question.”

“I thought as much,” said Dral. He reached into the pocket on the inside of his coat and pulled out a scroll of parchment, a bowl, and an athame. Seeing the question on Hrydus’ face, Dral chuckled and winked. “My pocket has what is called an extension charm, allowing me to carry more than what the pocket would hold normally.”

Dral handed the parchment to Laurigo who levitated the nightstand closer with a snap of her fingers. Another snap and the pitcher of water and empty glass vanished as well. She took the scroll and laid it out flat on the nightstand.

Hydrus looked at the parchment only to see it was blank. “Um…”

Dral cleared his throat again and handed the athame to Laurigo. “The parchment requires your blood mixed with a special potion,” he said and pulled a small potion bottle from his right hand pocket. The bottle was made of clear crystal and diamond shaped with silver liquid on the inside. Dral handed both the bowl and the bottle to Laurigo as well who put them on the nightstand beside the blade.  “This is just a standard test to look at your immediate family ties, so three drops will do.”

Laurigo gets down from her chair. “Would you like me to help?” she asked.

“Yes please,” replied Hydrus. He held out his hand to Laurigo who gently took it in her hand.

“I’ll be as gentle as I can,” she said and grabbed the blade. Carefully the goblin moved the gauze away from the boy’s index finger before making a small cut. Hydrus didn’t even blink, which did not go unnoticed by the goblins. Laurigo handed the blade to Dral, who cleaned it, before grabbing the bottle and uncorking it. She poured the potion into the bowl and with one hand, held the bowl while the other squeezed Hydrus’ finger to help the flow of the blood. She counted three drops into the bowl then quickly pulled it away, handing it to Dral. With a wave of her hand the boy’s finger was healed and to Dral’s surprise, Laurigo gave it a small kiss which made Hydrus smile.

“All better, love,” she said. Laurigo then turned to Dral expectantly.

Dral got over his surprise and looked down at the bowl as he swirled the contents together. The color of the potion changed from silver to a shimmering pink color and runes on the bowl started glowing softly. With a nod Dral handed the bowl to Laurigo who poured it onto the parchment. Hydrus watched in fascination as the potion absorbed into the parchment and after about a minute words began forming onto the page. When it was done, Hydrus picked it up and read:

Hydrus’ eyes darted across the paper multiple times as he read and reread the lines in front of him. His eyes started to fill up with tears. He had parents who were actually alive. He had Siblings, Aunts, Uncles, and even five of his grandparents were still alive. Wait… He read the lines again and something clicked in his head. “Hang on,” he said and looked up at the goblins, tears forgotten. “I have four dads and one mum?” His brows scrunched together in confusion as he tilted his head to this side. “How does that work?!”

Laurigo giggled at his reaction. “A very special and ancient ritual,” she said, “one the creature clans created from the very beginning. Once about every three hundred years or so, the Royals of the creature clans get together to have a child. This child is a symbol of the allyship, honor, and peace amongst the clans and hope for the future. This time the ritual was blessed with not one, but three children. The four creature Royals are the Vampires, Werewolves, Nagas, and the Veela. Of course, you can’t forget the Goblin Royalty, but we have never participated in the Ritual.”

“How come?” asked Hydrus as he soaked in her words like a sponge. “Don’t you want a… a…” He scrunched his face up again trying to find the right wording.

It was Dral who chuckled this time. “It’s not that we are against the ritual,” he said, “but when the very first ritual occurred, we agreed to let the more… human-like creatures partake and we… we would be the child’s warriors should the creature clans ever go to war.”

Hydrus nodded slowly. “Has there ever been a war?” he asked.

“There have been a few conflicts amongst the creature clans, but never a full out war,” Dral said. “We have, however, had war against the humans, not so much in recent years. I believe the last war was back in 1890, when a goblin by the name of Ranrok started to stir up trouble. He was looking for power, power to…”

Laurigo cleared her throat. “I don’t think right now is the best time for a history lesson on goblin wars, father,” she said.

Hydrus’ eyes lit up like Christmas lights and he grinned. “Father?!”

The female goblin looked back at him and nodded. “Yes, Dral, here is my father,” she said. “Now then, back to the ritual.” Hydrus sat up straighter, giving her his full attention, which she couldn’t help but find adorable. She just wanted to squish his cheeks because he was so cute, but she refrained. “The ritual was also supposed to ally the humans with the creatures, as the very first ritual and every ritual after that was performed by a human. The human was only supposed to perform the ritual but to the surprise of everyone, Lady Magic also made the human as one of the child’s parents. That is why you have three creature fathers and one human and lucky for all of us that your human father is your mother’s husband.”

Hydrus smiled at her and looked back down at his test. He ran his tiny, bandaged fingers over his parents' names. “It says that Mother and Appa are in-car…incar-ser-a-ted. What’s that?”

Dral cleared his throat and shifted. “It means they are in prison.”

The boy’s head snapped up so fast, Laurigo made a note to check for whiplash later. “What?! Why?! W-What did they do?” Green eyes started to fill with tears again.

There was a long sigh from Dral. “Your Mother and Appa were accused of torturing a wixen couple by the names of Frank and Alice Longbottom. It was said they were tortured into insanity.”

The name Longbottom rang in Hydrus’ ears, and he looked back down at his paper for his brother’s name. “Y-you mean… they tortured… my brother’s adopted parents?” He looked back up at Dral and Laurigo who were now staring at him wide eyed.

The two goblins exchanged shocked glances with each other then looked back at the boy. “Are you telling us, that your brother is the son of Frank and Alice Longbottom?” asked Dral. Hydrus nodded and held up his test. He watched as the goblin waved his hand, making a copy of the test. Dral plucked it out of the air, pulled a monocle out of his top right coat pocket, set it on one eye, and read over the test. When he reached Leporis’ name his eyes widened more. “This changes things. Perhaps we don’t know the full story after all.”

Deciding to unpack what they mean later, Hydrus moved on with his questions. “What does blood adoption mean?” asked Hydrus as he looked at them.

The two looked back at the boy. “A blood adoption is when a person or couple uses a ritual and a potion infused with their blood to adopt a child, therefore making the child one with the family,” said Laurigo. “When the Potter’s blood adopted you, you took on a couple of their features. Your eyes, for example, when you first arrived were more of an emerald green, now however they have taken on a more vibrant green which I suspect are the eyes you were born with. We had to use a few methods to heal your body and one of those methods made your adopted blood not so… prominent.”

Hydrus nodded and looked down at his test again. “So, Leporis and I got blood adopted but Vela just says adopted. Was she not blood adopted?”

“I would assume not,” said Dral, who took off his monocle and it was now hanging from his pocket. “If it doesn’t say that your sister was blood adopted, she was most likely just adopted normally and not through blood. This method is commonly used amongst Muggle-borns and Muggles. It’s possible your sister may or may not have been adopted by Muggles.”

Hydrus nodded again. “Will that make it more difficult to find her?”

Dral shrugs. “Perhaps a little,” he said, “but we have her name, so that’s a good start.”

Hydrus gave him a smile then looked at the list again. “My father,” he said, “it says he was Blood Adopted too… What does it mean by rebirth?”

Both Laurigo and Dral shook their heads. “We don’t know,” said Laurigo. “We have never heard of a Blood Adoption Rebirth. It would be something to ask your father.”

“But it says here he is… com…comp-ri-mi-zed.” The boy’s eyebrows scrunched together as he sounded out the word. “What does that mean? Also it says… wa… ra… um… how do you say this word?” He held the test out to Laurigo and pointed to the word.

Laurigo leaned forward in her seat to take a better look and her brows shot upward. “Wraith,” she said, astonished. She cleared her throat and sat back again. “The word is pronounced Ray-th. The W is silent. As for compromised, in your father’s case, it means weakened or damaged. As in the Longbottom’s case it means impaired. As we said earlier, the Longbottom’s were tortured into insanity. Their minds are extremely damaged, they have cognitive impairment and don’t remember who they are or who anyone else is. They struggle with everyday things and often need help, can’t really learn anything new, their minds are…” She taps a claw on the arm of her chair as she thinks. “In a sense, their minds are… in the clouds. Now your father, being a wraith, means he doesn’t have a body and he is very weak because of it. He is little more than a wandering spirit.”

Hydrus processed the information and when he felt like he understood it he gave her another nod. “Okay,” he said, “and what does partially compromised mean? It says Papa is partially compromised.”

“His position is compromised,” replied Laurigo. “Most Wixen believe your Papa was a follower of your Father’s, not one of his mates, who turned spy for Dumbledore at the end of the war. Your Papa’s true nature is not known to the wixen world and he is a high ranking Lord under the king of the vampires, Dracula. He ‘turned spy’ in the hopes of finding you children. Now, your Papa serves as Potions Master at Hogwarts under the watchful eye of Dumbledore. It was either that or prison.”

Hydrus looked back down at his test, again running his fingers over his parents' names. Even though he has no memory of them, his heart ached with longing for them. All he wanted was to be with them where he could be safe and happy. What did their hugs feel like? Would they even hug him or give him kisses like Aunt Petunia does Dudley? Would they read him stories and play with him? Probably not the latter, Aunt Petunia never really played with Dudley after he turned four. She’d simply give him toys and tell him to go play by himself. When he was smaller, Hydrus recalled her giving Dudley raspberries on his belly, tickling him, and making him laugh with funny faces. She never did that with him, only scowled and sneered.

He was drawn out of his thoughts by a sound and he looked up. Both Hydrus and Laurigo turned to look at Dral who hummed as he read over the information. “Hmm, so the Dark Lord turned into a wraith when he disappeared,” he said. He reached a clawed hand up to rub his chin. “We’ll have to find some way to find him.”

        “How?” asked Hydrus.

Dral gave a long suffering sigh. “That, I don’t know,” he said. “I’ll have to get together with one of our special teams.”

Hydrus drooped a little and tilted his head. “So… what do we do now?” He didn’t really have that many questions left about his test, it was all pretty straight forward. He had only asked about the things he didn’t understand.

Dral grabbed his cane and got down from his chair. “Now,” he said as Hydrus looked at him, “I am going to go send a missive to your only available parent. I’ll make sure that we have things squared away for his arrival and we will most likely send you available Grandparents, Aunts, and Uncles missives as well to let them know you have been found. If I need anything more from you, young Prince,” he gave the boy a wink, “I know where to find you.” With that, Dral walked away and out of the infirmary.

Laurigo too, got down from her chair and with a wave of her hand, everything returned to its original place. “I also must get back to my duties,” she said. “I will have some things brought to you so you don’t get bored and I will also be checking on you throughout the day. If you need anything,” she pointed to a rope hanging by his headboard, “give that rope a tug.” She gave the boy a loving smile.

Hydrus returned the smile. “Thank you, Healer Laurigo,” he said. “For everything. You have been so kind and I greatly appreciate you for saving me.” The boy swore he saw the goblin blush.

“You are most welcome, Prince Hydrus,” she replied. She reached up and brushed his hair out of his face, gave his cheek a gentle pat, then walked back through the small door at the end of the hall.

Hydrus let himself relax in his bed, his eyes once again reading over his test for the millionth time. He couldn’t help but be giddy and excited at the prospect of having a family. An actual family he could call his own, a family he hopefully would not have to worry about being beat or starved. His mind swam with so many thoughts and scenarios, he barely noticed that something appeared on the tray over his lap. The boy set his test aside to look at the tray. Sitting on top were four books that were titled: A Muggleborn’s Guide to the Wizarding World, The Royal Creature Clans, a Dictionary, and The Tales of Beedle the Bard . There was also what looked to be a coloring book with colored pencils.

Not feeling much like reading at the moment, he set the four books on his nightstand then flipped open the coloring book. He poured the colored pencils out and set them on the tray in a neat row and organized by color. When he was satisfied with their placements he began to color. The boy was very surprised that when he finished coloring a cat riding a broom, the picture began to move. He let out a surprise laugh and watched it for a minute or two before coloring more.

Hydrus didn’t know how much time had passed, so focused on his coloring, until Laurigo returned with his supper. She placed another bowl of soup in front of him, Tomato Basil, a grilled cheese sandwich, and a glass of milk. The boy thanked her, receiving a smile in return, then dug into his food. He was able to eat the sandwich just fine, but when it came to holding the spoon for the soup he struggled. Eventually he resorted to dipping his sandwich in his soup and letting Laurigo feed him once more.

Come bedtime, Laurigo gave him a purple potion to drink. “Dreamless sleep,” she had said, “help keep away any bad dreams.” Hydrus chugged it in one go and nearly gagged on the flavor causing the goblin to laugh. Within minutes the boy was asleep.

The next day was spent in a similar fashion; wake up, have breakfast, read some of his books, have lunch, more coloring. It was midafternoon when things changed by a large commotion outside of the hospital ward. Hydrus’s attention was drawn away from his drawing of a wizard trying to teach trolls how to do the ballet, when he heard loud voices coming from outside the ward doors.

He couldn’t make out what was being said, but it sounded like several voices nor did they sound happy. It wasn’t until Laurigo, who had gotten annoyed quite quickly, made her way to the door and opened it.

“WHERE IS MY PUP?!” yelled a deep growling voice. The sound sent shivers down his spine.

Laurigo stepped out of the door, leaving it open just a crack. There was a loud THWACK and everything went silent. Well silent until Laurigo started screeching. “Keep your bloody voice down!” she yelled. “Do you want to scare the poor child?” There was a pause and a deep spoken rumble that Hydrus couldn’t make the words out to. “Good,” continued Laurigo. “Now, take a deep breath and collect yourself.”

Another minute or so passed with Hydrus staring at the door and a patient silence. Eventually, the door opened again as Laurigo stepped back into the room. Following her, was the tallest, the most intimidating, most feral looking man Hydrus had ever seen.

Notes:

OKAY HERE IS AN EXPLANATION ON THE NAMES!!

I wanted the kids' names to represent all their parents. (Tom doesn't care what the others want to call their children so long as his last name, Slytherin, comes first in order.

First, we are going to start with Harry's. So, his name is Hydrus Iriusu. Let's break it down. Hydrus is the Water Serpent Constellation which is for Bellatrix. Iriusu is a combination of two words. Iri is the Korean word for Wolf. This name is for Fenrir and Rodolphus (I chose a Korean word because I'm going to have Rodolphus be of Korean descent on his mother's side). Usu means Bat in Ibog (This is for Severus who is a vampire).

Next up, we have Hermione's new name. Vela Hana Lovette. Vela is one of three constellations that make up a larger constellation of a ship called Argo Navis. Vela is the sales of the ship. I chose this one to represent both Bella and Severus, for Bella cause it's a constellation and for Severus because it starts with a V for Vampire. Now her two middle names. First, we have Hana. In Korean (for Rodolphus) Hana means the number one because she was the first born. Next is Lovette, which is a playoff of the name I have chosen for Fenrir's mother. Her name is Loveta which means woman who resembles a young wolf. Lovette means resembling a wolf cub.

Last, but not least, is Neville. His name is Leporis Rotri Duri. I chose Leporis to represent Bella and Severus because Leporis is the name of a Vampire Star in the Lepus Constellation. (See what I did there, Vampire Star, lol. Also look it up, it's pretty cool) Next, we have Rotri which means famous wolf for Fenrir. Then, we have Duri which means two in Korean for Rodolphus.

If you guys want me to give more information of the adult names let me know and I'll make an informational chapter about it. Too much to put in a note lol.

Also, please check out my other HP story, Hart of Black. I'd really appreciate it and could really use the feedback.

Chapter 4: Chapter Three: Fenrir

Summary:

Fenrir receives word from Gringotts that they found his pup. He heads there immediately and learns some very disturbing news about the life his son lived.

Notes:

Hey everyone! Sorry for the late update, life has been a struggle. Work has been super busy with the summer season which has thankfully slowed down a bit. However, I work in retail and the Christmas season is right around the corner. Ugh. Also, since my last update I have had two surgeries, which you would think would give me a good amount of downtime to write but.... lol.

Most recently, my rabbit died this weekend, and I desperately needed a distraction, so I was able to get the next chapter done. Hope you all like it!

Chapter Text

Chapter Three: Fenrir

Fenrir Greyback stood at the edge of an open field, arms crossed over his chest, his blue eyes watched as the youngest members of his pack played. The children giggled and squealed, yelled and hollered, as they played a series of games around the field. One would think being the alpha of a large werewolf pack he wouldn’t have time to watch children play, what with all his other duties. No, Fenrir made sure to make the time to look after the little ones. It was really the only ‘down-time’ he got, even if it was only for an hour each day during school recess or to give the den mothers a break on the weekends.

The alpha’s heart ached as he spotted the youngest of the children. A set of twin boys that were born four years ago. They were playing quietly between themselves with their older sister, making crowns and rings out of what flowers were left in late october. Fenrir watched as the smaller one of the twins stood to put the crown he made on his sister’s head. The man twitched but fought the urge to run to the boy when he tripped and fell. The thing that stopped the alpha from rushing over was the fact the boy ended up falling into his sister’s lap and the two burst out in giggles. Fenrir let out the breath he hadn’t realized he was holding.

Watching them play, Fenrir couldn’t help but think of his own three pups and how much he missed them. He missed holding them in his arms, missed playing with his two oldest while all his youngest wanted to do was snuggle. He missed the feeling of their warm bodies against his during naptime. He would never admit this out loud but he also missed the way the bat would roll his eyes with a heavy sigh and a shake of his head whenever he found the four of them in a snuggle pile. Fenrir even missed his petty arguments with Severus. He chuckled to himself as he recalled one of their last ones.

It was time to put the triplets down for a nap, they were about four months old, but to Fenrir they didn’t seem tired and wanted to continue playing. Especially his little Vela, she was always the one with the most energy and learned quicker.

* * *

Flashback

Fenrir chuckled as he crawled around the floor on all fours, little Hydrus was clinging to his back giggling, while little Vela was crawling around beside him and under him. Vela would squeal with laughter whenever he would stop abruptly and drop his head between his arms to look at her. Leporis was sitting nearby against one of the chairs in the nursery. He was watching them with rapt attention while chewing on a toy mandrake.

Severus walked into the nursery and sighed at the sight of them. “Fenrir,” he said in a scolding manner, hands resting on each hip.

Fenrir stopped and looked up at the man. “What?” he replied indignantly. He gave the vampire a soft glare as Vela plopped herself between his hands and Hydrus wiggled himself up to the man’s shoulders.

“They were supposed to be asleep ten minutes ago,” said Severus as he glared right back. “Are you incapable of putting them down for a nap?”

Fenrir sat back on his heels while he grabbed Hydrus, and with a whooshing noise, flipped the boy over his shoulder and into his arms. Little Hydrus squealed in delight. “A nap? Hah. Why should I? You’re the boring parent, not me.”

Severus squawked with offense. “Boring!?” he said. “I am not boring!”

Fenrir scooped Vela up in his other arm as he stood up. “Of course you are,” he said. “You’re the one who always insists on them napping and reading them books.”

The vampire glared at the werewolf as he walked over and scooped Leporis up. “The children love my books and they’re only four months old! Just because they develop faster than normal Wixen children does not mean they don’t need naps. They’re babies! Babies need their sleep!”

Fenrir opened his mouth to reply but was interrupted.

“Oh will the two of you stop,” said Bellatrix as she walked into the room. Her wild black curls were thrown up in a messy bun, having just come from the dueling room when she heard the commotion. She walked over to Fenrir and took Hydrus from his arms. She cooed at the child as he pressed his face into her cheek. “Hello my sweet boy.” She kissed his forehead then looked back at Fenrir and Severus. “Why don’t the two of you just fuck and get rid of your sexual tension to save us all the headache.”

Fenrir and Severus both turned scarlet, too affronted to say anything while Rodulphus, who had been watching from the door, was laughing his ass off.

End Flashback

* * *

The sound of running footsteps broke Fenrir out of his memory and had the man turning around to see who was approaching. It was his Beta, Antoni, and he had a letter clutched in his hand.

“Fenrir!” Antoni panted as he stopped in front of his Alpha. “You have a correspondence from Gringotts.”

Fenrir raised a brow as he took the letter. “Thank you,” he said.

Antoni nodded to him before leaving his alpha to return to his duties.

Fenrir watched him go for a minute before looking down at the letter. It was very rare he got a letter from the bank. Typically it was about a lone Werewolf who needed refuge or seeking asylum. Carefully, he opened the envelope and pulled the letter out. It was a very short piece of parchment and had only one sentence.

“The third Starr shines brightest this evening.”

~Account Manager Dral

Fenrir felt his knees buckle and he grabbed a hold of the tree next to him. ‘It can't be…’ he thought and looked over the missive again. “Starr” with two r's was the code word they all had come up with should the children be found. His heart pounded in chest. If this missive was indeed correct, then that means his youngest, his little snake, has been found and he was at Gringotts.

Barking an order to a nearby pack member to finish watching the kids, Fenrir took off for his cabin which was located in the center of the compound. He threw open his door, ran up his stairs and into his room. There he quickly changed his clothes, grabbed his traveling cloak, and was halfway down the stairs when he turned back around. He made his way back up the steps and went into a door across from his bedroom.

This room was a child's room. The walls were painted a pale blue with a mural on the left and right walls. Both sides had clouds, grass, and trees, the only difference was that the left had bats flying in and around the trees and the right side of the room had snakes. The center wall had two small beds on either side of a large window with a shared dresser in between. Moving to the snake side of the room, Fenrir grabbed a pale yellow snake plush with green and purple spots off the bed. He smiled softly as he ran his hand over the snake’s head, its eyes were a vibrant green and made from real Chrome Tourmalines. Tucking the toy into an inside pocket of his cloak, he left the room and back out of the house.

Walking through the compound he found his Beta near the training building. He was talking with a few of their sentinels. Fenrir motioned for Antoni and the beta excused himself to walk over to his alpha.

            “Sir?” Said Antoni.

“I have to go to Gringotts,” replied Fenrir. “You're in charge til I get back. I should be back by this evening at the latest. I'm going to retrieve a very special package.”

Antoni gave him a quizzical look but then nodded. “Understood,” he said.

Fenrir clapped him on the shoulder then walked away. He made his way through the compound towards the familiar path through the woods. He continued through the woods for several minutes till he came to a clearing where the wards ended. Stepping outside the ward he apparated to Knockturn Alley.

He arrived in a small alcove off of the main street. Fenrir pulled up his hood and stepped out. The alley was dark and gloomy as always with people milling about. He passed a couple of hags arguing over a valerian root outside the apothecary, the shopkeeper looked to be at his wits end with the two. Fenrir couldn't help the amused smirk that crossed his face. As he continued down the alley, he passed a couple of Werewolves who bowed their heads as they passed and Fenrir gave them a nod in return.

Eventually he came to the only clean entryway in the whole alley. The door frame was made of white marble and the mahogany door was polished to perfection. Taking a steadying breath, Fenrir opened the door and stepped into the creature side of Gringotts Bank. This lobby was not nearly as lavish as the main lobby but it was still extravagant in its clean white and black checkered marble floors, marble columns that reached the ceiling. A crystal chandelier cast a warm glow on the room. Rows of mahogany desks sat on either side of the hall, each desk sat a goblin. Some goblins were counting jewels, others galleons. One goblin was assisting a hag and had his nose scrunched up because of the jars of (Fenrir didn't want to know what) on the goblins desk.

Fenrir gave a small huff and moved to an available goblin. He waited patiently for the goblin to acknowledge him. It didn't take too long before the goblin finished writing in his ledger then turned his attention to Fenrir.

“Lord Fenrir,” said the goblin as he bowed his head, “may your gold ever flow.”

Fenrir returned the bow. “And may your enemies fall at your feet, Master Goblin.”

The goblin gave him a sharp toothy smile. “What can I assist you with this afternoon?”

Fenrir reached into his pocket and pulled out the missive he received. “I am here to see Master Dral,” he said.

The goblin looked at the missive and nodded his head as he handed it back. He climbed down from his desk and motioned Fenrir to follow him. The two made their way out of the lobby into a long hallway. Gone was the checkered flooring only to be replaced with white marble that had veins of Grey and flecks of gold. Portraits of famous goblins and other creatures lined the walls with the occasional suit of armor and weaponry. They finally stopped outside a door, it was the same mahogany as the goblin desks and the entrance door. There was a gold plaque across the door that read “Royal Alliance Account Manager Dral”. The goblin knocked on the door and after a few seconds there was a gruff “come in” from the other side.

The goblin stepped into the room and bowed. “Master Dral,” he said, “Lord Fenrir is here to see you.”

Dral looked up from the book in front of him and waved him in. “Thank you, you may leave,” he said, waving the other goblin off. The goblin bowed and left the room, shutting the door behind him.

“Where is my son?” said Fenrir as he stepped in front of the desk.

“Right to business as always,” said Dral as he gave Fenrir an amused smile.

Fenrir growled at him softly. “I do not have time for your jests, Master Dral,” he said. “I came here for my son.”

Dral nodded and gestured for him to sit down. “All in due time Lord Fenrir,” he said. “There are a few matters however that we must discuss beforehand. Such as your son’s inheritance test and his medical exam. Your son has been through quite the ordeal and it’s best to understand just how much first.”

Fenrir let out an impatient sigh. “If we must,” he said. He couldn’t keep one of his legs from bouncing, he was most anxious to get to his pup and go back home.

After shuffling through a drawer, Dral pulled out a folder which he opened and pulled out a piece of parchment. “Here is his inheritance test. I’m sure you know most of the information already but there might be a couple things on there that might surprise you.”

With a grunt Fenrir took the inheritance test. His blue eyes traveled down the parchment as he read through it. His face went through a series of expressions from raised eyebrows, to narrowed eyes and eventually a small growl. Once he was down reading he lowered it to his lap. “I’m honestly not surprised that Cadmus is still alive,” he said. “Though the wraith, I did not expect that. Have you looked into possibly finding his wraith at all?”

Dral gave Fenrir a nod. “We have been searching but it has only been twenty four hours since we learned of his condition, so, naturally we haven’t found anything substantial. We will continue to look.”

Fenrir nodded and looked back down at the test. “Have you informed the bat?”

“Not yet,” replied Dral as he sat back in his seat. “We must be careful with how we approach him, we don’t want Dumbledore catching wind of what is happening.”

The werewolf let out a huff. “Always making things difficult,” he muttered. Fenrir couldn’t quite stop the twinge of pain in his heart at the thought of Severus. He placed Hydrus’ test on the table and tapped his little girl’s name. “Granger… any relation to Dagworth-Granger?”

“We are unsure,” said Dral. “So far, our records have not come up with any sort of information of the Dagworth’s having a daughter by the name of Hermione. It could be possible there is no relation at all. We are also looking into muggle families with that name. Our liaison with the muggle ministry is looking into adoption records for us around the time of the kidnapping.”

Fenrir growled at the thought of muggles but let it go for now and tapped on Leporis. “So, that’s why Bella and Rodolphus went after the Longbottom’s,” he said. “Hmmm, trying to get him away from the matriarch will be difficult. I’ll need to speak with Severus on this one. Is there anything you can do on your end?” He looked back up at Dral.

“Unfortunately, not,” replied Dral, “unless for whatever reason Augusta brings him in for an inheritance te… hmmmm.” Dral began mumbling to himself as he scribbled a note onto a piece of parchment then sent it off with a flick of his wrist.

Fenrir chuckled lightly and handed the test back to Dral. “Have you contacted anyone else?”

Dral nodded and leaned back in his seat. “Yes,” he said. “I have contacted the Beaumont-Gaunts since they live in France. I have not contacted anyone else besides them, figured you would want to tell the others yourself.” The goblin watched as Fenrir gave him a nod. Good. Now that we have discussed that, I believe it is time we discussed this.” He pulled a second piece of parchment out of the folder and handed it to Fenrir. “I warn you, this is not pretty. The test only shows the most severe of injuries and illness as bumps and bruises are common in small children.”

Fenrir furrowed his brows as he took the parchment.

Fenrir's face grew more and more red with anger as he continued to read. The illnesses and injuries kept getting worse and worse throughout the years listed. The medical report went all the way up to Hyrdus’ near death from being pushed down the stairs. The only thing Fenrir knew about on the list was the Bronchiolitis that was listed at one month. He remembered Hrydus had been absolutely miserable and all he wanted was to be held and cuddled, which Fenrir was all too willing to oblige.

The parchment crumpled in the werewolf's clenched fist. His blue eyes turned amber as he looked up at Dral. The goblin had a solemn look on his face.

“What is the meaning of this?” Fenrir growled. He already knew what it meant. All that he read were signs of abuse but he needed the confirmation.

Deal let out a long sigh. “I'm afraid to inform you my Lord but your son has been abused by the muggles he was placed with.”

Fenrir bristled angrily. “My pup was placed with abusive Muggles?!” He hated muggles but he tolerated the ones who treated their magical children with care. Ones who abused their magical children he could never forgive but this time, it was his child they abused and he would make them pay.

“But I'm afraid that isn't all,” said Dral. He pulled out another piece of parchment. “This was from the cleansing we had to do on Prince Hydrus.” He hands the parchment over.

Fenrir snatched it out of his hand and read it hastily.

A deep rumbling growl ripped from Fenrir's throat and his blue eyes turned amber. “DUMBLEDORE,” he growled as he launched himself to his feet. “I'll kill him! How dare he block my pup's magic!” He threw the parchment on the table. “Where is he? Where is my pup?”

Dral took a deep breath. “He is currently resting in our medical bay,” he said. “He- Lord Fenrir!”

Fenrir had heard enough and had launched himself out of his seat then out the door. He heard Dral's chair scrape against the marble floor and his heeled book clicking after him, but Fenrir didn't care. The only thing he cared about was reaching his pup. Dral's yelling for him to “Wait” and “Stop” drew the attention of others and soon there were multiple goblins trying to stop the large werewolf.

Fenrir had no idea where he was going but he knew what sterile hospital rooms smelled like so he followed his nose. Eventually he reached a long hallway with several doors, the smell was overwhelming and he couldn't tell which door it was coming from. He was getting more agitated the longer by the minute, he just wanted his son in his arms.

A deep growl rumbled in his chest. “WHERE IS MY PUP?!” Fenrir bellowed.

Not a minute later a door opened and out marched a female goblin. The look of annoyance almost made him flinch; her cold eyes glared at him. She marched right up to him, threw her arm back, and the next thing he knew her clawed hand hit him so hard in the stomach it knocked the wind out of him. There was a loud THWACK as her hand made contact with his stomach and everything went silent.  No one dared speak in the presence of an angry female who has been so protective and a mother hen to their newest charge.

“Keep your bloody voice down!” yelled Laurigo as she rested her hands on her hips. “Do you want to scare the poor child?”

Fenrir took a moment to get his breath back. “No ma'am,” he said once he was able. “It won't happen again.”

Laurigo nodded at him. “Good,” she said. “Now, take a deep breath and collect yourself.” She stared up at him impatiently.

Fenrir cleared his throat and fixed his clothes before nodding that he was ready. Laurigo nodded again at him then turned on her heel and led him through the door she came out of. They passed many of the beds to the lone bed that had a small child, about halfway down the room.

Fenrir's heart pounded in his chest as he stared into his son's vibrant green eyes. Oh how he missed those eyes. When he got to the end of the bed he took a good look at his son. His black hair was messy from sleep, he had a cowlick sticking up in the back that reminded Fenrir of a ducks tail. Hydrus’ face was skinny, too skinny for Fenrir's liking. Children were supposed to be soft and a little squishy, not skin and bones which is what his pup was. He wanted to growl at the thought of those muggle starving his child but he refrained. Then there was the issue of his pup's size.

Fenrir's eyes narrowed. “Why is he so small?”

Chapter 5: Finally Home

Summary:

Hydrus finally meets his dad and is surprised he is actually wanted.

Fenrir takes Hydrus home and the boy meet's his Nana for the first time.

Notes:

Hey everyone! So sorry for the late update, I know it's been a while. Unfortunately I work a full time job and have a 10 month old to care for so I don't get to write as often as I like (I also have ADHD and get distracted very easily lol). But here is the next chapter and hope you all enjoy!

P.S
I made some changing to the pairings. Normally I'm a huge Dramione fan but I realized that I made them cousins and I'm not into incest so I changed it. Hermione is now going to be paired with Fred Weasley cause I really like that pairing too.

Also, someone had commented Drarry but then deleted the comment before I could respond. Again, sorry, I'm not into incest so there will not be a Drarry pairing, as cute as the pairing can be. Plus I'm more of a NottPott fan than I am a Drarry fan.

Chapter 4 Finally Home

Hydrus gulped nervously as the large man walked toward him with Laurigo. He had to crane his neck a little to look up at him as the man stopped at the foot of his bed. Never before had he ever seen someone who looked so wild yet put together. This man, this werewolf, was his dad. The only one who wasn’t compromised or imprisoned.

The boy watched as the man’s eyes narrowed. Uh oh. Was there something wrong? Did he not like him? Was he mad that his son was nothing more than a bone thin scrawny kid with bruises and bandages? Would he even want Hydrus? Would he take one look at him and turn around to leave and never look back? Dread filled Hydrus’ stomach. The thought of his dad, who he just found out was very much alive, possibly not wanting him made his heart clench.

When Fenrir opened his mouth Hydrus couldn’t help but think the worst. This was it, this is when his dad said he didn’t want him. He’d leave and never come back, leaving Hydrus all alone once more. The child squeezed his eyes shut tightly, waiting for those dreaded words.

“Why is he so small?” came the baritone voice of his dad.

Hydrus’ eyes snapped up to Fenrir and blinked rapidly. Out of everything he thought the man could say that was not one of them. Did he not like Hydrus because he was small? The boy turned his green eyes over to Laurigo who was looking up at Fenrir gravely.

“I’m afraid that is due to the malnutrition I’m sure father told you about,” said Laurigo. “The muggles did not treat the young prince kindly.” She then turned to Hydrus and gently took his hand with a smile. “Hydrus, dear, this is your dad,” she motioned to the man, “Fenrir Greyback.”

Hydrus looked back at the man to see him kneel down next to his bed while Laurigo moved out of the way. The boy watched as Fenrir’s face softened and he gave Hydrus a weak yet warm smile.

“Hydrus,” said Fenrir, his voice soft and breathy. “My pup.” He reached a hand out toward the boy’s face but paused when the child flinched away.

Fenrir did his best to suppress the hurt at having his pup flinch away from him and the anger at the trauma the boy has suffered for him to react like that. The man took a deep breath and smiled more at Hydrus but didn’t pull his hand away.

“It’s alright son,” said Fenrir. “I will never hurt you and should anyone ever try to hurt you, they will have to get through me first. Understood?”

Hearing those words come from Fenrir’s mouth made tears fill Hydrus’ eyes. His dad wanted him and he’d protect him. With a small sniffle that turned into a sob the boy leaned into his dad’s touch. The man’s calloused hand was warm against his cheek. The tears began spilling down his face and Hydrus all but lunged for the man with his arms outstretched. It hurt to move so quickly but Hydrus didn’t care. He wanted more of the warmth his dad’s touch promised.

Fenrir was not expecting his pup to throw himself at him, but thankfully he had quick reflexes and was able to catch the small child. He held his boy against his chest as Hydrus tried to get his tiny arms around his neck. If Fenrir didn’t know his son was six years old he would think he was three or four with how small he actually was.

Carefully the man got off the floor and sat on the bed as he rocked side to side trying to sooth Hydrus’ heart wrenching sobs. Laurigo stepped away to her nurses station to give them some privacy. Fenrir appreciated the gentle pat to his knee as she passed. Turning his attention back to his child, he gently rubbed his back in soothing circles the way his mother used to when Fenrir himself was a pup and upset.

It took a good fifteen minutes of crying before Hydrus’ sobs became sniffles with the occasional hiccup. The boy’s face was pressed into his dad’s neck, his hands clutched Fenrir’s shoulders, and his knees were pressed into his ribs. Fenrir was reminded of holding Hydrus exactly like this as an infant and he couldn’t help but chuckle. The deep rumble in his chest only made Hydrus cling tighter and he turned watery, red rimmed green eyes up to the man.

“Daddy,” said Hydrus, his voice small and feeble.

Fenrir rubbed his cheek into the boy’s dark curls. “It’s alright pup,” he said softly. “You’re safe now.” The man smiled when the child made a small sound almost like a purr as he pressed his face back into his neck. The man chuckled again. He carefully adjusted his hold on Hydrus so that the child was cradled in one arm, his head pressed against his collar bone, and his hands clutched the front of his robes.

“Got something for you,” said Fenrir. Hydrus looked up at him with curious eyes as Fenrir pulled the yellow snake plush out of his robes with his free hand. “You probably won’t remember him but this is yours.” He held the snake out to him and waited.

Green eyes stared at the snake in awe. Fenrir was right, Hydrus didn’t remember the plush but that didn’t stop his amazement. His? It was his? He had never owned anything except Dudley’s hand-me-downs and a few broken army men that he had picked out of the trash. Dudley wasn’t going to play with them again and no one seemed to care he had them. Slowly he reached out with his free hand, his other one was pinned between him and his dad’s chest, to take the snake only to stop and look back up at his dad.

Fenrir smiled at him and gave the snake a small shake. “Go on,” he said and held it a little closer.

Encouraged, Hydrus gently took the snake and held it tightly to his chest. It was soft and warm from being in his dad’s robes. He gently examined the eyes with his tiny fingers. ‘ They’re like mine,’ Hydrus thought to himself. He got a glimpse of his own eyes yesterday when Laurigo helped him to the bathroom. They were a brighter green rather than the emerald they had before. He wondered if his parents did that intentionally, making the snake’s eyes match his own. Smiling, he pressed his face into the snake as he squished it between him and his dad’s chest so he could grab hold of Fenrir’s robes again with his hand.

Fenrir chuckled and reached up to run his hand through his son’s soft curls. He pressed a kiss on top of Hydrus’ head and the little boy smiled up at him. They stayed like that for a bit before the clearing of a throat made Fenrir look away from his son.

Dral stood beside them with a small smile. “Congratulations Lord Fenrir,” he said. “I'm glad to see the two of you reunited.” His smile turned grim. “Unfortunately, my Lord, there are a few more things we need to go over.”

Fenrir sighed and looked down at Hydrus who was on the cusp of sleep. His pup's eyes were drooping heavily, though the child seemed to be fighting sleep. The werewolf patted his son's back gently and stood up. “If we must,” said Fenrir. Dral nodded to him and headed for the doors of the hospital wing.

Before Fenrir could follow, Laurigo walked up to him with a messenger bag in her hand. “Here,” she said. “These are the things I gave the young prince during his stay. He is more than welcome to keep them and I threw in a few extra surprises.” She held it out to Fenrir who took it gently. She then slipped eight potion vials into the bag. “For the little one on your trip home.” Laurigo glanced at Hydrus then snapped her fingers. His pj's turned into soft black jumper and jeans and she summoned a green cloak and a pair of shoes for him. Another snap of her fingers and the shoes appeared on his feet. She handed the cloak to Fenrir.

Fenrir looked down at the vials and saw there was an anti-nausea, six nutrient potions and a dreamless sleep potion. He nodded then took the cloak and slipped into the bag. “Thank you, Healer Laurigo,” said Fenrir.

Hydrus shifted in his dad’s hold to look at Laurigo. “D’ank you,” he said sleepily as he gave her a tiny wave.

Laurigo gives Hydrus a bright smile. “You’re welcome dear,” she said. She looked back at Fenrir. “I have also put in his bag a list of the potions he needs to take for the next few months to get him back on track with his growth. I suggest reaching out to your potions master. With the dreamless sleep, no more than a single drop at night, every other night. The young prince has nightmares but I hope he won’t need the potion for long. He needs to take the nutrient potions twice a day with food. I have given you a three day supply so you'll have to get Lord Prince to make you some. Knowing him, that won't be an issue. After all, the young prince is his son as well. Give him the anti-nausea potion before and after you apparate home.” She gave Fenrir a nod and walked away.

Fenrir threw the strap of the bag on his free arm and adjusted his hold on Hydrus, who snuggled back into his chest. With one last smile at his pup, the man turned and followed Dral out of the wing and through the halls of Gringotts. It took several minutes, now that Fenrir wasn’t storming through the building… Once back in the office Dral sat in his chair and Fenrir carefully sat in the chair across from him.

“Now, down to business,” said Dral. “We must not alert Dumbledore to the fact that the prince is out of his control. So, I have been in discussion with King Ragnok and we have agreed to place a golem of the young prince in the muggles’ home and wipe their memories of the attempted murder. We have hair and blood samples from the young prince to use to make the golem. I would suggest you take care of the muggles and the golem by the end of the month. We will be able to deceive the old man for a short while but it can't last forever.”

Dral cleared his throat and pulled out some parchments from his desk. “This here is a contract for the golem should you wish to pursue this path, which I highly recommend. It'll cost 100 galleons, however.”

Fenrir carefully leaned forward and pulled the parchment to him. He took the quill Dral handed him and signed his name. “Take it out of the Slytherin account.”

Dral pulled the parchment back to him and placed it back in the desk drawer. He then took another parchment from the pile and handed it to him. “Custody papers,” he said simply.

Fenrir didn't even look, he just signed his name.

This went on for a bit more of signing and going over paperwork, making sure that no one could take Hydrus from him legally. The whole time Fenrir was signing paperwork, Hydrus was sound asleep in the man’s lap. He was curled in a ball, his head resting on his dad’s stomach, and his snake plush was tucked under his chin. Occasionally Fenrir would run his hand through the child’s hair.

An hour later they were done with paperwork and plans to find Cadmus and the other two children.

“One last thing,” said Dral. “You probably remember that on the young Prince’s medical report about a Horcrux, in his scar.”

Fenrir nodded. “I'm going to assume the Horcrux belongs to Cadmus,” he said. “He was always fascinated with the idea of them. Made a couple if I remember. We insisted he stop them as they were affecting his mind.”

Dral nodded in return. “Indeed,” he said, “and yes it belongs to Lord Slytherin. It has his magical signature. We did not remove the Horcrux from the Prince's scar during the cleansing. We have never heard of a living Horcrux before and do not wish to risk young Hydrus’ life with our usual methods. Removing it will take extensive research and would honestly be best to leave for Lord Slytherin to deal with.”

Fenrir let out a deep sigh and looked down at his son. He reached down and brushed his thumb over the scar on the boy’s forehead. He could feel the familiar feeling of Cadmus’ magic attached to it. It made his heart ache a little. He may not have been as romantically involved with Cadmus as Bellatrix and Severus but he still cared for the man greatly. Fenrir would go as far to say that Cadmus was his best friend and occasional lover. “I understand,” he said.

Dral got down from his chair and walked around the desk. “Pleasure doing business with you Lord Greyback,” he said as he watched the man gently wake up the child to put on the green cloak from the bag. “We will send you a message as soon as we have information on Lord Slytherin or either child and I will send a letter to Lord Prince.”

They had agreed to get Severus to the bank by telling him there was an issue with his account but Fenrir would also send him a message in the way they normally communicated. Not to say that Severus wouldn't believe Gringotts but the bat has been moody and untrusting of others since the triplets were taken. It would be better if the man had two sources of confirmation then just one.

Fenrir rested Hydrus on his hip as he stood from his chair, bag slung over his shoulder. “Thank you, Master Dral for all you've done for myself and my family,” he said. “I will make sure you are well compensated for your time.”

Dral grinned at Fenrir and gave him a bow. “Thank you for your generosity Lord Greyback,” he said. “May your enemies fall before you.”

Fenrir gave him a nod. “And may your gold forever flow.” The werewolf gave the goblin a small bow then turned to leave.

Hydrus waved to Dral over his dad’s shoulder. “Bye bye,” he said softly.

Dral chuckled and waved back. “Bye bye, Prince Hydrus.”

Hydrus grinned and turned back around as they left the office. Curious eyes darted around the halls at all the pictures, statues, and relics that lined the walls. The boy was in awe at some shining weapons that were displayed on one wall between a portrait of a goblin wearing a crown and a second portrait of a witch fighting a strange looking dragon that looked like it was made of metal.

Fenrir chuckled at his son. “The goblins are a proud race who love showing off their history,” he said. “You would do well to remember never to disrespect them.”

“Okay Daddy,” said Hydrus as he laid his head on Fenrir's shoulder.

Fenrir walked back into the main lobby and before he stepped outside, he pulled the hood of Hydrus’ cloak over the boy’s head. He didn’t care if people saw himself but he wanted to protect his pup. Knockturn Alley was not a good place for children. Once the hood was securely in place, Fenrir stepped out into Knockturn.

“We need to make a quick stop at the apothecary before we go home,” said Fenrir as he made his way down the alley.

Hydrus tilted his head in curiosity. “What’s that?”

The werewolf glanced at his son. “A place that sells potions,” he said. Fenrir chuckled as he watched Hydrus tilt his head a little more as he thought then finally understanding when he nodded. “We're going to send a letter to your Papa.”

Hydrus perked up. “Papa! We're gonna send a letter to Papa?” A grin spread across his face. “I get to meet Papa? But I thought Master Dral said he was compromised.”

Fenrir hummed in confirmation. “He is but that is something we can get around,” he said as he stepped up to the apothecary.

They entered the building and Hydrus wrinkled his nose. The place didn't smell very good. He could smell the various ingredients that lined the shelves on the walls, they smelled okay,  but he could also smell an underlying scent of something he couldn't quite place. The place was dimly lit and had a range of things from tiny plants to animal ingredients. There were various displays too such as bowls of unicorn horns; 5 sickles each.

A middle aged man came out from the back room and Hydrus clapped his hand over his nose as the bad smell intensified. The smell was coming from the man, as if he hadn't bathed in a month. Hydrus buried his nose in his dad's neck. His dad smelled much better, like a forest after it rains.

Fenrir chuckled at him and patted his back. He then turned his attention to the man. “Lester,” he said.

The man bowed to him. “Lord Fenrir,” he said. “To what do I owe the pleasure of your visit?”

The werewolf grunted as he stepped up to the counter. “I need to send a message to Lord Prince.”

The man immediately went into the back room then came back with a box and set it on the counter. He pulled parchment, ink and quill out of the box and set them on the counter.

Fenrir looked at Hydrus. “I'm going to have to put you down for a minute. Stay close, okay?” Hydrus looked at him nervously but nodded slowly. Fenrir gave him a smile and a small nuzzle before setting Hydrus down on his feet. The child immediately wrapped an arm around his dad's leg and leaned against him.

Fenrir patted his head and looked down at the paper. It was charmed to look like an invoice to anyone but Fenrir and Severus. He grabbed the quill and started writing.

As his dad started the letter Hydrus looked around the shop. It was relatively unremarkable though and honestly a little boring. The only thing of interest was the old lady who walked into the door. There was something off putting about her. She was wearing a dark gray cloak with its hood up over a deep purple dress. She had a wrinkly face, a long pointy nose, gray hair that was draped over her shoulders, and beady little black eyes that were staring unsettling at him. Hydrus did not like the way she was looking at him, it made him uncomfortable.

Then it clicked in his head, this wasn't just any ordinary old lady, this was a hag and hags have a weird obsession with children. He read about them in one of the books that Healer Laurigo gave him. The book said that they liked to kidnap children and most often those children are never seen again or turn up dead. It didn't say what hags did with the children because hags were very secretive.

A shiver ran down Hydrus’ back and he stepped closer to his dad. When the hag stepped too close to them for his liking, the boy flashed his fangs and hissed at her. The hag jumped back in surprise and Hydrus himself was also surprised. He didn't know he could hiss. Embarrassed, he tucked himself into his dad’s cloak.

Fenrir stopped writing and turned to see what was going on. He looked over at the surprised hag and growled at her. The color drained from her face and she scurried out of the store. Fenrir huffed then looked down at Hydrus. He placed his hand on top of the boy's head making Hydrus look at him.

“Good boy,” said Fenrir. He chuckled as Hydrus blushed and buried his face again, clinging more to his pants. With a smile he turned back to the parchment and rolled it up. He held it out to the man. “You know what to do.”

The man took the scroll and bowed. “Of course Lord Fenrir,” he said. “Will there be anything else?”

Fenrir pulled out the list that Healer Laurigo gave him. “Add these potions to the invoice.”

The man took the list and bowed again. “It will be done.”

Fenrir nodded and picked Hydrus into his arms. He made his way to the door and stopped to turn back to the man. “One more thing,” he said. The man looked up at him. “Take a bath.” With that Fenrir left the shop. The last thing Hydrus saw before the door shut was the man smelling his pits which made the boy giggle.

Hydrus looked at Fenrir. “Where to now Daddy?”

“Home,” said Fenrir as he reached the apparition point. He dug into the bag and pulled out the anti nausea potion. “Take a sip of this.”

Hydrus wrinkled his nose but did as he was told with no fuss. A shiver ran down his spine and he gagged a little before handing the offensive bottle back.

Fenrir chuckled and put the bottle in his pocket. “Now,” he said, “you're going to want to hold on tight. I am going to use what is called apparition to get us home. It won't be pleasant, like being sucked through a tube. It might make you sick to your stomach, that potion you just took is supposed to help.”

“Okay Daddy,” said Hydrus. He tightened his hold and snuggled closer.

Fenrir nodded and held his son close, turned on his heel and apparated away from Knockturn. They reappeared on the edge of a forest. The trees stood fifty meters high, the sun peeking through the leaves casted shadows along the mossy forest floor. Birds chirped in the distance and the occasional squirrel scuttled by.

The man heard his son dry heave and immediately put him down on his feet. Hydrus looked a bit green as he held his stomach. Fenrir pulled the anti-nausea potion out of his pocket again and handed it to his son. Hydrus wrinkled his nose again but obediently took a sip of the potion. The boy gagged and covered his mouth, Fenrir feared he might actually be sick so he started rubbing his back. Hydrus took deep breaths and stood extremely still. After a few moments he relaxed into his dad’s embrace and whined softly.

Fenrir chuckled and hugged him. “Very good,” he said. “You did great, son. Most kids your age still throw up even with the potion.”

Hydrus buried his face in his dad's neck. “Yucky,” he whined. Fenrir chuckled some more and picked his son back up and set him on his hip. Once he was sure the boy was settled he began walking.

Hydrus laid his head on his dad’s shoulder as they walked, he still felt queasy but the soothing feeling of being held helped a lot. Hydrus let his eyes wander around as they walked. With his new heightened senses he could smell the moss below their feet, the leaves as they fell to the forest floor. He could hear a squirrel chitter in the distance. The sounds and smells were soothing to him and lulled him back to sleep. He didn’t know how long he was asleep until his dad woke him up.

“Wake up, pup,” said Fenrir softly. “We’re almost there.”

Hydrus pushed himself up and rubbed at his eyes. The forest wasn’t as dense as before and he could hear people in the distance. There were many new smells he couldn’t quite place. Some smelled like burning wood, like the fireplace at the Dursleys. Others smelled like baking bread and cooking. Green eyes looked around as they got closer but his eyebrows scrunched together when he couldn’t see what and where the sounds and smells were coming from. He turned to his dad in confusion.

Fenrir chuckled. “I have to key you into the wards,” he said. He set Hydrus down in front of a large stone with runic carvings. “May I have your hand?” Hydrus nodded and held out his hand. His dad smiled at him then slowly pulled out a knife. “I need to make a small cut in your hand but don’t worry it’ll heal as soon as you touch the stone okay?”

Hydrus gulped nervously but nodded. Fenrir kissed his forehead then, true to his word, made a small cut in the palm of the boy’s hand. He then took his son’s hand, placed it in the central runic circle then pulled out a wand, and muttered a spell under his breath. Hydrus’ eyes tore away from the stone as a village and people appeared before him. There had to be over a hundred people that he could see. People of all ages, from children to elders and they all stopped to stare at them. Getting shy and nervous, Hydrus pressed himself into Fenrir.

Fenrir chuckled a picked up Hydrus and placed him on his right shoulder, holding him in place. “Welcome home son,” he said. The man made his way through the crowd and people stepped away and bowed as they walked by.

Hydrus tilted his head curiously. “Daddy, why are they bowing?”

Fenrir glanced at him with a smirk. “Because I am the Alpha of this werewolf pack,” he said. “They are under my protection and command.”

“What’s an Alpha?” asked Hydrus as he glanced at a group of four children who looked to be about his age. They were gazing at him in curiosity. The boy gave them a small wave causing them to grin and wave back.

“The easiest way to explain an Alpha is that he is like a king who rules over land and people, providing them with whatever they need to live comfortably and in peace,” replied Fenrir. Hydrus looked at his dad with surprise which quickly shifted to awe.

“Wow,” said Hydrus softly. The admiration in his eyes made Fenrir swell with pride.

They continued walking till they reached the center of the village. It was a large area with logs made to look like benches and a large fire pit in the center. Fenrir stepped up to the largest house that stood by the fire pit and climbed up the stairs. He set Hydrus down and turned to the people who were now crowded in front of the house.

“My pack,” said Fenrir, his deep voice hushing any chatter and grabbing the attention of everyone. “Tonight we celebrate. As you all know almost six years ago my children from the Great Alliance went missing. Today, one returns home to us.” He puts a hand on Hydrus’ head. “My pup Hydrus will take his place amongst us. You will all show him the respect you show me.”

Hydrus blushed as the pack started cheering and clapping. He shyly hid his face in his dad's thigh causing several to chuckle and coo at him.

Fenrir patted his head and smirked at the pack. “You all know what to do,” he said. “Let us prepare for tonight's celebration.” He then waved everyone off.

Hydrus watched as people scattered in excitement. One man stayed close by and once everyone had dispersed he stepped up to Fenrir.

“Alpha,” he said and bowed, “Prince Hydrus, welcome back.”

Fenrir patted the man on the shoulder. “Rise Antoni,” he said, then looked at Hydrus. “Hydrus, this is Antoni. He is the Beta of our pack and my second in command.” Hydrus gave Antoni a shy wave. “How are things?”

Antoni gives Hydrus a small smile before turning his attention to Fenrir. “All is well,” he said. “Nothing of issue to report.”

Fenrir nodded. “Good,” he said. “Find my mother and tell her I have returned.”

Anotni bowed again. “Yes, Alpha,” he said and walked off.

Fenrir took a deep breath then turned to Hydrus. “Let us go in and rest,” he said, then led Hydrus into the house.

The inside was larger than what it looked like from the outside. It was an open concept living room, kitchen, and dinning. The only real divider between the kitchen and living room were two wooden columns and spandrels. The house was warm and cozy. The living room had a three seater couch that faced into the house, made of brown wool with two matching armchairs. A green plaid blanket was neatly folded over the back of the couch. Black accent pillows were scattered about the couch and chairs. There was a bearskin rug in front of the couch with a natural wood coffee table that looked like it was just cut from a tree, bark and all, sitting on top of it. Hydrus could probably count how old the tree was by the visible rings. Maybe he'd do that later. There was a large three paneled window behind the couch casting the late afternoon light across the floor. A large fireplace sat on the back wall beside one of the armchairs.

The boy continued to walk around taking everything in. There were deer heads on the walls, along with fish on plaques. It looked like an American hunting lodge that he once saw in a design magazine that his aunt had discarded in disgust. The dining room table was made the same way as the coffee table, raw cut tree only the rectangular way instead of the round way and could seat six people. The chairs were made from sturdy branches and had black cushioned seats. The kitchen was quaint with wooden cabinets and butcher block counters. There was an icebox* in the corner of the kitchen a couple cabinets down from the stove, the kitchen sink sitting between them in front of a window. There was a staircase leading upstairs to the left side of the room. Hydrus took a deep breath as he allowed himself to relax. (* see end notes)

“What do you think?” said Fenrir as he watched his son explore.

Hydrus gave a small jump, forgetting the man was still in the room. He turned to his dad and smiled. “I love it,” he said.

Fenrir smiled at him proudly. The man pointed to a door just to the side of the stairs and told him that it was his office and that Hydrus was allowed in whenever he wished. They then made their way up the stairs. The first door on the left was a full bathroom, nothing special. The next door on the left was Fenrir's room and Hydrus was reassured that just like the office, the boy was allowed in the room whenever he wished. His dad's room was sparsely furnished with a queen sized bed, dresser, a couple nightstands, and a small bookshelf that sat under the bedroom window. The next room they went to was across the hall and the first of two.

“This is your and Leporis’ room,” said Fenrir.

Hydrus took a deep breath and reached for the handle. Slowly he opened the door and his eyes widened at what he saw. A large window sat on the wall in front of him with a dresser below the window. The dresser was made of pine with eight drawers, four on each side. The drawers on the left side were dark blue and the ones on the right were forest green. There were twin sized beds on either side of the dresser, pressed against the wall. Just like the dresser, the bed on the left had dark blue bedding where the right had forest green, the same colors as the dresser. Hydrus noticed a plush on Leporis’ bed but he couldn't make out what it was. He'd ask his dad later. It was the murals on the walls that really caught Hydrus’ eye though. Both sides of the room had a mural of trees and clouds with a slight difference. The left side was darker in color almost as if it was nighttime and there were bats flying around or dangling upside down from tree branches. The right side was lighter in color but was still dark like a late afternoon in a dense forest. There were snakes of all colors slithering through grass, up the trees, and lounging on branches. The largest snake, pure black with red eyes, was hanging from a branch over the bed. The look on the snake was fierce and dare he say, protective. This snake was his favorite.

Hydrus stepped closer to the snake side, it was obvious to him that this side was his, seeing as he was a Naga. He set his snake plush on the bed and gently pushed down on the mattress. It was much softer and looked comfier than the mattress he slept on in the cupboard. The comforter was thick with soft to the touch fabric. Tears pricked at the corner of his eyes, this was his. Turning back towards the door he noticed two wardrobes on either side of the room for him and his brother, each in the same color as the dresser. There were also toy boxes at the end of the beds that he hadn't noticed the first time. Looking at the door he saw his dad standing there with a gentle smile on his face. Hydrus sniffled then ran to his dad wrapping his little arms around one leg.

“Thank you, thank you,” he said over and over again.

Fenrir gently unwrapped Hydrus from his leg and picked him up, hugging him close. “You're welcome pup,” he said as he ran his hand through his son's hair. They stayed like that for a few minutes before Fenrir gently set Hydrus down.

Hydrus wiped his eyes as he stepped back into the hall. “What’s the last room?” he asked as he pointed to the door just down from his.

“Your sister's room,” he said. “Would you like to see?” Hydrus gave a nod and walked down the hall. His dad opened the door and they looked inside.

The room was about half the size of his room, which made sense since it would only be her in here. The wall across from the door was pink but instead of a dresser under it, there was a bed. It was twin sized like his with a fluffy pink comforter that reminded him of fur. The dresser and wardrobe were on the same side as the door and both were made of pine like his but painted pink. Her toy box was also at the end of her bed. The left and right walls were also painted with murals. It was the same forest but at sunset with pinks and oranges in the sky. Paintings of wolves weaved in and out of the trees. There was one large black wolf at the very front overlooking the room. A protector maybe? Like his snake? He'd have to go back and look carefully at Leporis’ mural and see if he had a big bat too.

The sound of the front door slamming downstairs made him jump in surprise.

“Fenrir! Fenrir!” came a woman's voice from downstairs.

Fenrir sighed deeply then looked at Hydrus. “Prepare yourself,” he said, “you're about to meet your Nana.”

Hydrus blinked slightly. Nana? Thinking back he remembered one of his classmates calling an old woman Nana. Did that mean his grandmother? Fenrir chuckled at his confusion before picking him up and carrying him downstairs.

The woman standing in the living room didn't really look all that old except for her hair. It was a salt and pepper color, big and puffy like he once saw in an old yearbook from the 80's that Petunia kept in the attic. She was wearing dark pants, a plaid shirt that was tied at the waist and the sleeves rolled up with a white t-shirt under it. She had some wrinkles, particularly around her eyes and mouth but overall Hydrus didn't think she looked old enough to be a grandma. But then again from what he read, witches and wizards don't age like muggles do plus this woman was a werewolf. Thinking back to his inheritance test, this was his dad’s mom, Loveta.

Loveta stopped when she saw them and her eyes zeroed in on Hydrus. In the blink of an eye she had Hydrus out of Fenrir’s arms and into hers, holding him tightly against her chest. Hydrus didn't even have time to be surprised as the woman started crying into his hair. The boy looked at his dad, silently asking what he should do but his dad just stood there with his arms crossed and a smile on his face.

Hydrus turned his head to look at Loveta, she had her eyes closed tightly as she rocked him side to side. He could hear her whisper things like “sweet baby” and “you’re home” under her breath. It made warmth spread through his chest knowing that this woman, his Nana, cared about him so much. Hydrus felt tears fill his eyes again and he nuzzled his face into her neck causing her to coo at him. Fenrir went to the kitchen to make them tea while his mother moved to the living room and sat in one of the arm chairs that turned out to be a rocker. No one said anything for a long time as Loveta continued to rock Hydrus in her arms. They were content in their silence, the only sound in the room was the quiet creak of the rocking chair and Hydrus’ soft breathing as he started to fall asleep.

Finally Fenrir broke the silence. “Mother,” he said quietly, getting the woman’s attention.

“Where did you find him?” Loveta whispered back.

“Gringotts,” Fenrir said. “It’s a long story, one I will tell you later tonight. Just know…” he glanced at his sleeping son, “Hydrus has not had an easy life. We must be patient and go slow with him. We also know where Leporis is, though getting him will be fairly easy but it will take time.”

Loveta looked away from Hydrus to stare at Fenrir. “Leporis? Where?”

“He’s with the Longbottoms. That’s why Bella and Rodolphus went there that night, to get Leporis back. They were the only ones who knew.”

“How are you going to get him back?”

“The goblins are going to bring Augusta Longbottom in and insist they do an inheritance test on Leporis. Knowing the kind of woman August is, she’ll launch an investigation and get to the bottom of it. We’ll soon have Leporis back. Vela on the other hand won’t be so easy. It’s possible she is living with Muggles.”

Loveta bristled at that. “Muggles!” she hissed angrily. “How on Earth did she end up with Muggles!”

Fenrir gave her a dark look. “Dumbledore.”

Fenrir had never been afraid of his mother, no matter how many times he got in trouble as a child, but the look that crossed her face now sent a chill down his spine. Her cheeks turned red and a deep rumbling growl sounded from her chest. The sound however was cut short when a small whine came from Hydrus, who stirred in her arms. Loveta stopped growling immediately and took several deep breaths to control her anger.

Fenrir cleared his throat and his mother looked at him. “She isn’t the only one who ended up with Muggles.” His eyes glanced at Hydrus.

Loveta’s eyes widened as it clicked in her head that her grandson was also in the hands of Muggles. She glanced at Hydrus and that’s when she noticed the bandages that covered his stomach which had risen when she had settled him into her lap. The woman saw red. There was one thing Fenrir knew by looking at his mother now, Dumbledore was a deadman walking.

* Ice boxes were wooden or metal chests with a compartment in the top where a block of ice would be placed. I went with an Ice Box and not a refrigerator because there is no electricity in the magical world.

Chapter Text

Chapter 5: Parties and Letters

When Hydrus woke he was cozy and warm in the softest bed he had ever felt. When he cracked open his eyes, he grinned at the snake on the wall before sitting up. He looked around the room as his heart pounded happily in his chest. It hadn’t been a dream. It was all true, his dad had come and collected him from Gringotts and he was finally in a place where he belonged. With a soft giggle Hydus threw his blanket off of him, ran out of his room, and down the stairs. He stopped at the bottom and looked around the room. His dad wasn’t anywhere in sight but his Nana was in the kitchen with her back to him. Cautiously he stepped forward and peeked around the counter to look at her. She was stirring something in a bowl and by the smell in the air there was already something in the oven. If he had to guess it smelled like cake or muffins.

Hydrus opened his mouth but then shut it. What if she got mad at him for disturbing her? Aunt Petunia never liked it when he bothered her while she was baking. Hydrus was never allowed to bake because the first time he got to bake he found it fun. He hadn’t been allowed to have fun. Though, if there was one thing he learned recently is that his dad was nothing like the Dursley’s so perhaps his Nana wasn’t like them either. Only one way to find out.

Hydrus swallowed the thump in his throat before speaking. “N-Nana?” he said softly.

Loveta stopped stirring and turned to him. A smile split her face and she wiped her hands on a towel. “Hydrus,” she said softly. She walked over to him and picked him up, placing a kiss on his cheek. “Did you have a nice nap?” She settled him on her hip. Hydrus nodded shyly and tucked his head onto her shoulder making her coo. Loveta gave him a gentle squeeze and kissed his forehead.

“What are you making?” asked Hydrus as he looked at the bowl curiously.

Loveta smiled at him and sat him on the counter beside the bowl. “I’m making your welcome home cake,” she said softly. “I hope you like chocolate.”

Hydrus stared at her wide eyed. A cake? For him? And a chocolate cake at that? He continued to look at her in awe. “For me?” he asked.

Loveta smiled at him. “Of course for you little one,” she said.

“Wow,” said Hydrus. “I’ve never had chocolate before or cake.”

He missed the look of sadness that crossed his grandmother’s face before she grabbed a spoon and dipped it into the cake batter. She then held the spoon up to him. “Open wide.” Hydrus did as told and she put the spoon in his mouth. She giggled as Hydrus’ eyes lit up and he hummed in content. “You like that?”

Hydrus nodded his head. “Yummy!” he said when he removed the spoon.

Loveta kissed his cheek again before putting him back down on the floor. “Why don’t you go outside and find your Dad while I finish here, okay?”

Hydrus nodded again and made his way to the door. When he opened it he saw lots of people moving about. Some were setting up poles with streamers while others setting up tables and chairs. Fenrir was standing in the middle of it throwing out directions here and there. Hydrus smiled and climbed down the porch sets. He weaved his way around people till he reached his dad. Fenrir grinned at him then picked him up once he was in arms reach.

“There’s my pup,” said Fenrir as he ran his hand through Hydrus’ hair. “Sleep well?”

Hydrus grinned at him. “Yep!” he said cheerfully. “The bed is soft and warm. I really, really like it.”

Fenrir smiled at him and sat Hydrus up on his shoulder. “Come, I want to introduce you to some of the other pups,” he said.

Fenrir walked them away from the main circle and down a row of houses. As they went along the man pointed out some key buildings like the dining hall for pack meals and celebrations. There was also a training hall where they learned to fight and a schoolhouse on this side of the complex. Behind the schoolhouse was a large playground with swings that dangled from tree branches, slides and teeter totters, and even a sand pit. There were children of all ages running around and giggling. A group of teenagers sat at a picnic table under a tree just talking and laughing. There were also three adult women watching over the children from different angles of the playground. Fenrir nodded to a sandy-haired blonde one closest to them as he walked over to the sand pit where four small children were playing.

Most of the children stopped playing to greet them then hovered back to observe. Even the teenagers stopped talking to watch them walk through the playground. When they arrived at the sand pit, Fenrir gently set Hydrus down. The four kids looked up and Hydrus recognized them as the ones who waved to him when he arrived.

The only girl of the group grinned widely and stood up. She was a skinny thing with tan skin and dark brown hair, freckles dusted her cheeks, and her hazel eyes twinkled in the afternoon light. “Alpha Fenrir, Prince Hydrus,” she greeted and gave them a small bow. The three boys with her copied her.

Fenrir smiled at them. “Hello Mika, boys,” he said. He then looked at Hydrus. “This is Mika and her brothers Travis, Denzle, and Aidric.” Fenrir pointed to a brown haired boy behind the girl as he said Travis. This boy also had tan skin, dark brown hair and freckles but his eyes were brown instead of hazel. Denzle and Aidric were twins with blonde and hazel eyes. Their freckles stood out more then Mika’s or Travis’ as their skin was a bit paler. They were nearly identical except that Aidric had a beauty mark under his left eye and Denzle had one on his chin. Least that would make it easy to tell them apart. The twins were also smaller than Mika and Travis.

Hydrus gave them a shy wave. “Hi,” he said softly. To say he wasn’t nervous was a lie. The last time he had tried to make friends they got scared off by Dudley but Dudley wasn’t here and these kids were like him, creatures with magic.

Mika grinned at Hydrus. “Wanna play with us?” she asked with a small bounce of excitement.

Hydrus looked at his dad for permission and smiled when Fenrir nodded. He turned back to the other children. “Yes, please,” he said. Hydrus blushed when Mika gave him an even wider smiler.

“Before I left you go off and play,” said Fenrir before Hydrus could run off. He looked at Mika. “Mika, you’re the oldest so I’m counting on you to look after Hydrus. He has been through a lot recently and was even hurt so make sure to play games that will be easy for him. If he gets tired, make sure he sits down.”

Mika gave Fenrir a serious look and nodded. “Yes Alpha, Sir!” she said and gave the man a salute.

The man chuckled then looked at Hydrus. “I’m just going to be in the square by our house if you need me,” he said. He then pointed to the adults that were surrounding the play area. “If you want to come home just ask any of them to bring you to me. Have fun and stay out of trouble.” Hydrus gave him a nod then giggled when his father kissed him on the forehead. With a pat to the head Fenrir stood and walked back towards the center square. Hydrus chewed on his fingers nervously as his dad walked away.

His nervousness didn’t last for long as the other children were very inviting and happy that he was with them. They played in the sandbox making castles and other shapes. Hydrus showed them a trick of using water to keep the structures from falling apart. After the sandbox they played tag and swung on the swings. Hydrus showed them how to play hopscotch and noughts and crosses.

When the sun set the children were escorted back to the square. The place had completely changed. There were twinkling lights, party streamers, balloons, tables and tables of food and snacks. The thing that made Hydrus the most emotional was a welcome home banner. Standing under the banner were his dad and grandmother and behind them was a two tiered cake. Grinning Hydrus ran to his dad who bent down to scoop him up once he was in arms reach.

Being in his dad’s arms he was able to get a better look at the cake. It had white frosting with little snakes and wolves dotted around the cake amongst green piping. Written on the top was “Welcome Home Hydrus.” Tears formed in his eyes and he quickly brushed his hands over his eyes. Fenrir chuckled and kissed his cheek before he lifted him up on his shoulders.

Fenrir faced everyone and grinned. “My friends,” he said softly as a hush swept through the crowd. “Tonight we celebrate the return of Hydrus. He will take his place amongst our family where he belongs. Even better yet, because of Hydrus, we now have information on my other two missing pups. Soon, all three of my pups will be reunited and we will be working towards the future we from the alliance have envisioned for our world. Now let the party begin!”

Everyone cheered and music began playing. Hydrus giggled as Fenrir tossed him up in the air and then set him down on the ground. Loveta came up to Hydrus and kissed his cheeks then took his hand and spun him around a little.

Warmth spread through Hydrus, this was all for him. This party was for him. These people that he didn’t even know were here for him. His family was here for him. This was the happiest day of his life.

Severus sat in the great hall, it was dinner time and the hall was loud with students. He detested the noise and even more so the students who made the noise. It didn’t hate children but his tolerance for their stupidity was very small. With a sigh he picked up his goblet and took a sip. Dinner would last another thirty minutes and he just had to be patient before he could make it to the solitude that was his chambers.

The sound of an owl screeching had Severus and many others look up. A tawny owl flew in through one of the windows. It circled the tables before finally coming to a landing in front of Severus. The man raised an eyebrow at the bird before slowly taking the roll of parchment from its ankle. The bird didn’t wait for a response and took flight again, leaving the great hall. Severus took the scroll and unrolled it, his eyebrows raised when he recognized the familiar stationary.

“Everything alright,  Severus,” said Dumbledore from two seats down.

Severus folded up the parchment and stuck it in a pocket on the inside of his robes. “Of course, Albus,” he said. “As you know I supply potions for several apothecaries. This is simply one of those apothecaries needing a supply of potions and they need them by morning.” He wiped his mouth on his napkin and stood. “Excuse me, I have work I need to do.”

He briskly made his way out of the Great Hall and down to the dungeons to his chambers. Once he entered the chamber he walked past the small sitting area and through a door to the right of a hallway that led to his bedroom. He went through the door and down a flight of stairs to his private lab, sealing and warding the door behind him. Sitting at his desk he opened the scroll. He grabbed a needle and pierced his thumb then blotted the drop of blood in the top right hand corner of the scroll. The words on the parchment changed.

             Elenos,

I thought you should know that I have Hydrus now in my custody. Our little boy was found by the goblins two days ago. He was placed in the hands of abusive muggles, you might recognize their names: Petunia Dursley nee Evans and Vernon Dursley. Our little boy has been known for the last six years as Harry Potter. He is in need of potions as he is severely underweight and malnourished. You are the only one I trust to brew the potions our little boy needs. I will explain more when we can meet.

             Fenrir

It felt like all the air escaped his lungs. He hadn’t heard from Fenrir in over a year and now he tells him that he has their son, their little snake. Tears welled in his eyes and he rested his elbows on the table, putting his face in his hands. Oh he didn’t dare hope but Fenrir has never lied to him ever. If Fenrir said he had their son, then he had their son. A small sob escaped him as he looked up. With a shaky breath he opened one of his desk drawers and dug under several pieces of parchment til his hands grabbed hold of a picture.

In the picture was himself, Bellatrix, Fenrir, Cadmus, and Rodolphus. Severus was sitting in a chair and holding Leporis in his arms. Bellatrix was seated to his left while holding Vela. Cadmus stood between them, he was holding Hydrus, with Fenrir on his right and Rodolphus to his left. Severus smiled as he looked at the picture. It’d been a while since he’d looked at it. He kept every picture he had of them altogether or just pictures of the kids hidden away. He hid them mostly because he didn’t want Dumbledore to stumble across them but more so because it was too painful to look at them.

With a smile, he ran his finger over the image of Hydrus. He remembered the day the children were born. Bella had been in labor for nearly fifteen hours before Vela arrived. Leporis arrived not long after his sister but Hydrus… they feared something was wrong as it took Hydrus thirty minutes to appear. When he finally came out he was whisked away by the midwife as the child was almost blue. They managed to stabilize him but it was touch and go with him for the first couple days after birth. Vela and Leporis thrived while Hydrus struggled, he was much smaller than his brother and sister. Severus stayed by their little snake night and day, refusing to leave him for the first two weeks. It was after those two weeks that Hydrus started thriving like his siblings and they all breathed a sigh of relief.

Severus took a deep breath and set the photo down then grabbed the letter again. He waved his hand and it returned to the potion order form, he looked to see what he needed and how much. Nutrient potion, pain potion, bruise balm, anti-scarring salve. He took a deep breath and ran a hand down his face. Their child needed months worth of potions. With a sigh he set the parchment down and turned to his cauldrons.  Time to get to work.

Chapter 6: Papa

Hydrus rolled over in his bed, he was warm and cozy. Rolling onto his back he looked at the snake mural on his wall. Yesterday had seemed like a dream and yet it was all real. He found his dad, met his Nana, made a couple friends (he thinks), and had his very first party. He grinned to himself as he pulled his yellow snake in front of his face.

“No more Uncle Vernon,” he whispered. “No more Aunt Petunia and no more Dudley.” He squeezed his snake to his chest and buried his nose in the soft fabric.

A commotion downstairs drew his attention, so Hydrus slowly climbed out of bed. He made sure to make it before leaving his room, his snake clutched in his arms. Carefully and as quietly as possible he walked down the stairs. He could hear hushed voices coming from the kitchen.

“I swear I will drain Albus dry,” said an unfamiliar voice.

Hydrus poked his head around the corner. Fenrir was standing in the kitchen talking to a man dressed all in black. His black hair was about shoulder length, it was sleek and shiny. The boy couldn't see the man’s face as his back was to him. He watched as Fenrir smirked at him.

“I forgot just how sexy you are when you get feisty,” said Fenrir in a deep voice.

The man in black stiffened slightly before leaning forward. “Oh shut up,” he said, causing Fenrir to chuckle. “Now that I have heard the story I'd like to see our son.”

Fenrir placed his hands over his heart. “What about me? Do I not get any hugs? Not even a kiss? You would me, Severus.”

The other man growled at him and pointed a finger at him. “You are not allowed to call me that,” he said hotly.

Fenrir flinched slightly and raised his hands in a placating manner. “Forgive me, Elenos.”

Hydrus blinked as the names registered in his mind. His mouth fell slightly open and he carefully stepped off the bottom step. “P-Papa?” he said timidly.

Elenos stiffened again and slowly turned around. His grey eyes landed on Hydrus and his shoulders sagged immediately. “Hydus,” he said softly. “My baby.”

Hydrus grinned and ran to him. Elenos bent down and scooped the small boy into his arms, holding him firmly. Hydrus giggled as the man peppered his hair and cheeks in kisses. He was muttering things like ‘my sweet baby’ and ‘missed you so much’.  The little boy melted into his papa's arms and nuzzled his face into his neck.

Elenos pulled back and set Hydrus on the counter. “Let Papa get a good look at you,” he said. The man began checking him over. He ran his hands through his hair, checked his ears, his eyes, mouth, nose, and anywhere else he could think of. Hydrus sat patiently while his Papa looked at him and Fenrir stood back with a fond, exasperated smile.

As Elenos examined Hydrus, Hydrus examined his Papa. The man’s silky black hair curled slightly at the bottom, his eyes were a molten silver gray, his nose was straight, he had a downturned mouth with a defined cupid’s bow, and his skin was pale and flawless. His Papa was the very picture of elegance and Hydrus thought he was beautiful. He couldn’t help but reach out to touch his Papa’s cheek making the man smile softly.

“He’s already been examined by the goblins, Love,” said Fenrir as he watched them.

Elenos sent Fenrir a side-eye look. “Yes and as much I trust the goblins and their healers,” he said, “I’d prefer to do my own examination.” He waved his wand over Hydrus and a floating piece of parchment appeared. “It allows me to get a better idea on his potion regimen.” The man gently picked up Hydrus, snatched the parchment out of the air, then made his way into the living room. He sat them on the couch with Hydrus on his right side. Fenrir sat down on Elenos’ left and the two of them looked at the paper.

Hydrus watched his parents silently as they quietly discussed the parchment to themselves. He didn’t mind that they were leaving him out of the conversation, he was just happy to be next to them. While they talked quietly, Hydrus turned around so his back was to the living room and he snuggled into his Papa’s stomach. The man brought his hand down and began running it through his son’s raven locks. Within minutes Hydrus was asleep once more.

Fenrir looked down at Hydrus and sighed softly. “He sleeps a lot,” he muttered.

Elenos brushed his fingers across the boy’s cheek. “Of course he does,” he said. “His body is going through a major healing process. The goblins did most of the work but he still has a long way to go.”

Fenrir hummed and rested his right arm on the back of the couch. “Care to tell me why your former best friend had our son?”

“As if I would know,” replied the vampire. “Albus doesn’t tell me everything and I honestly thought Lily had a child with James Potter. Not once did I think it possible that our son was in her possession. I do know one thing, Lily is no kidnapper, it goes against her morals. She must have been lied to about his origins. ”

Fenrir nodded and leaned further into the couch. “Did Cadmus tell you the real reason he was going to the Potter’s? Out of all of us, you spent the most time with him.”

Elenos sighed. “He did not,” he said. “But he was obsessed with the prophecy and I honestly feared for Lily’s life. Potter I could care less about. Cadmus could have killed him alone and I wouldn’t bat an eye.”

“Is that why you went Dumbledore,” growled Fenrir, “because you thought Cadmus would kill her.”

Elenos glared at him. “You have to remember I grew up with Lily, she was my best friend,” he said. “She was like a sister to me. She didn’t care that I was a vampire. Yes, we had a falling out and yes, I went to Dumbledore so that he would protect her. After they went into hiding I told Cadmus what I had done, that I had talked to Dumbledore. He was mad at first and rightfully so but then he decided to use it to our advantage. That’s when I started spying on Dumbledore.”

Fenrir raised a brow at him. “Cadmus knew? Yet he didn’t tell you why he was looking into the Potter’s?”

Elenos looked down at their son as he played with his dark curls. “He mentioned that he had a feeling that the Potter’s knew something about our children. I don’t think even he knew that their son was actually ours,” he said. “Least not until the last minute. He also promised me he wouldn’t kill Lily.” He looked back at Fenrir. “With what you told me, that our son was with Lily and James, I have no doubt Cadmus was there to retrieve Hydrus. Something obviously went wrong.”

Fenrir hummed softly and got up off the couch. He went back to the kitchen and began to make them tea.

Elenos once again gently picked up Hydrus, cradling him in his arms as he followed Fenrir. “Have you learned anything about the Longbottoms and why Bellatrix and Rodolphus were there? Did they truly go there to get Leporis?”

Fenrir turned and looked at him. “No new information as of yet,” he said. “But Dral thinks we might be able to find some clues in the Lestrange Vault.”

Elenos rocked side to side as he held their son. “That will be difficult to get into,” he said.

The werewolf poured them each a cup of tea. “Maybe not,” he replied. “Ramsey is still alive. You can simply ask him.”

Adjusting his hold on Hydrus, Elenos took the cup of tea from Fenrir. “Me?” he asked.

Fenrir chuckled. “Ramsey always did like you better then he did me,” he said then pointed at their son. “I’m sure if you bring him his grandson he’ll allow you into the vaults if you ask.” The man stared at his mate as he sipped his tea, a smug look on his face.

The vampire glared at him because he knew the other was right. Ramsey Lestrange had always seemed to have a soft spot for the broody vampire, Elenos believed it was because they were both potions masters and often talked about the subject. He gave the thought another once over and it really didn’t seem like that bad of an idea.

“He’s already met my mother,” said Fenrir, breaking Elenos from his thoughts. “The Beaumont-Gaunt’s are in France and who knows where Cygnus is these days. Dral said he did send them all a correspondence as well so I’m sure Cygnus will show up sooner or later. The Beaumont-Gaunt’s won’t step foot in England, haven’t since 1942 and even then they were only in England for a few hours. They might make an exception for their grandbabies but we’ll see.”

“I’ll send him a message,” said Elenos, “when I get the chance.” He set his mug down and walked over to Fenrir then handed him Hydrus. “Seems it’s up to me to make breakfast.” He then pushed the man out of the way of the stove and ice-box.

“Hey!” exclaimed Fenrir but any further protest immediately died when Hydrus let out a small whimper and shifted. He looked down at his son and breathed a sigh of relief to see him still sleeping. When he looked up at Elenos the vampire was glaring at him. Not wanting to upset either of them further he obediently went into the living room and sat down with Hydrus in his arms.

Ten minutes later the house was filled with the smell of sizzling bacon and maple sausages, toast and omelets. The sound of Hydrus’ stomach growling made Fenrir chuckled as he gently woke the pup up.

“Breakfast time, Pup,” he said softly as he lifted Hydrus to a sitting position and rubbed his back.

Hydrus whined softly and rubbed his eyes which then popped open as he caught the smell of the food. Fenrir watched as his kid lifted his nose in the air and sniffed, his nose twitching slightly with each sniff. It amazed him how quickly Hydrus was adapting to his new senses now that all the blocks were gone. The boy even growled at another kid yesterday when the kid tried to take a strawberry off the cake without it even being cut yet. Then of course there was Hydrus hissing at the hag in the apothecary yesterday afternoon.

Hydrus slid from Fenrir’s lap, his snake clutched in his arms still, and padded into the kitchen. He walked up to Elenos and gently grabbed a hold of the man’s pant leg. The man looked down at him, smiled, then patted his head. The little boy took pleasure in the affection and buried his face in Elenos’ leg as he leaned on him.

Elenos chuckled as he finished making breakfast. When he was done he escorted Hydrus to the table and put him in a chair complete with a booster seat and all as the table was a bit bigger. He then brought over the food and set it on the table. Seeing his son unsure what to grab, the man took it upon himself to make him a plate. He started off with a smaller portion but made sure to tell Hydrus that if he wanted more he could simply take it.

The three of them sat in relative silence as they ate. The two men were simply happy to watch the child. Hydrus would wiggle and hum in happiness every time he took a bite. It was the cutest thing either of them had seen in years. Midway through breakfast Elenos put three potions in front of Hydrus. The boy looked at them then looked at his Papa then back to the potions. He carefully picked up each one to look at them and smell them. He recognized them immediately as the same potions Healer Laurigo gave him. The boy wrinkled his nose as he first downed the nutrition potion, then the appetite stimulation potion, and then a potion that was supposed to help with his growth and muscles. He didn’t remember what the last one was actually called but it was the better tasting one of the three. When he finished drinking them he washed them down with his orange juice then went back to his food without a fuss.

Elenos took the empty bottles and smiled at his son with pride. “Great job, Hydrus,” he praised. Fenrir was pretty sure that if Hydrus had a tail it would be wagging with the happy smile and blush that appeared on the boy’s face.

After breakfast the adults sent Hydrus upstairs to get ready for the day while they cleaned up. Elenos set the dishes to wash themselves after Fenrir put them in the sink. The vampire then opened a cabinet and started stalking it with potions.

“I was able to make a month’s worth of potions,” he said. “Hydrus must get the Nutrition potion twice a day, first with breakfast then with dinner. The other two he gets at breakfast only once a day.” Elenos turned to Fenrir only for the man to be standing right behind him. Elenos was not short by any means but Fenrir was still at least two inches taller. “Can I help you?”

Fenrir boxed Elenos in with his arms against the counter. “Yes,” the man all but purred as he stared at Elenos. “I still haven’t received my hug or kiss from you yet.”

Elenos rolled his eyes and wrapped his arms around Fenrir’s neck. “I guess I can indulge you just this once,” he said with a deep sigh. Fenrir simply raised a brow at him. Elenos sighed. “Oh shut up and kiss me you fool.”

A wolfish grin spread across Fenrir’s face as he closed the distance and crashed his lips against the other man’s. The kiss was hot, heavy, and desperate, the two of them had seen very little of each other in the last six years. It lasted a couple of minutes, there may have been some groping involved, and only broke because…

            “Daddy!”

The two of them turned to see little Hydrus standing at the bottom of the stairs, fully dressed with his snake, turned in their direction but with his hands over his eyes. Elenos chuckled softly as he pushed Fenrir away and walked over to their son where he picked him up.

Hydrus peeked at him through his fingers. “No more kisses?” he asked.

Elenos laughed lightly and kissed his child’s forehead. “It’s safe to look now baby,” he said.

Fenrir huffed and walked over to them. “So, what is the plan for today?” He had planned on showing Hydrus around the compound more but Elenos’ unexpected, at least not this soon, arrival changed things.

Elenos looked at Fenrir. “I think it best we take Hydrus shopping,” he said. “We don’t have a lot for him and I’m going to assume these are borrowed clothes?” He pinched the sleeve of the boy’s shirt between his fingers.

Hydrus had put on the same clothes that the goblins had given him because he didn’t have anything else to wear.

Fenrir coughed into his hand. “Those are from the goblins,” he said, slightly embarrassed that he had forgotten that little detail. His pup couldn’t go around wearing the same thing everyday and as much as the werewolf hated shopping they really didn’t have much of a choice. “Very well.”

Ten minutes later the two men and child were exiting the wards of the compound and headed to the apparition point. Hydrus was tucked in Elenos’ arms, he knew he wasn’t a baby but he couldn’t resist the opportunity to be carried. He had never been carried that he could remember and it felt good to be in his Papa and his Dad’s arms. The child was given another anti-nausea potion to keep him from throwing up after they appareated.

They arrived in a side street off a magical shopping district in Falmouth, not that Hydrus knew that at the time. Before they actually went out into the alley, Fenrir cast a glamor on himself to look more… human. He still kept his beard but his eyebrows became more normal making his forehead not so fuzzy. His sideburns cleaned themselves up and his beard shortened slightly and changed to a soft brown instead of black. His hair too changed from black to brown and his face had softened slightly. His eyes went from steel blue to a deep brown.

Hydrus watched in fascination as his dad went from the feral man he was used to seeing to a well groomed gentleman. The boy then turned to his papa to see if the man would also put on a glamour but he didn’t. He tilted his head in confusion as he looked from his dad to his Papa.

Elenos chuckled at him. “I wear a glamour on a daily basis,” he told the child. “No one truly knows what I look like except your dad, our family, and now you. What you see now is my true form.” The boy smiled widely at the man then hugged him. Elenos chuckled and kissed his forehead.

When they walked into the alley Hydrus’ eyes widened in awe. The street was wide with colorful shops of all shapes and sizes. One shop that caught his eye was bright yellow with a little garden in the front, the sign read Miss *Millie’s Apothecary . There was another shop that was bright pink with cakes and chocolates in their window. This shop was called Pollipop’s Bakery . As they walked down the street, passing wizards and witches who greeted them with smiles, Hydrus’ head was moving in all directions trying to take it all in.

They continued until they came to a two story burgundy brick building, the bay windows on either side of the teal blue door had mannequins wearing anything from dresses to slacks and polos to robes. A wooden sign with a spool, thread and needle above the door read Royal Radiance Boutique . Elenos climbed the three steps up to the door and entered, a bell above them chimed through the store. The inside was warm and cozy with the right amount of elegance. On one side of the store were fancy dresses and robes, suits for black tie and cocktail occasions. The other side of the store had a more casual vibe with everyday wear. The back of the store was designated specifically for children. There were mannequins that were the same size as Hydrus wearing shorts and tee shirts, jumpers and trousers.

A middle aged woman came out of a door behind the register beside the door. She took one look at Elenos and her eyes lit up and a wide smile spread across her face. “Lord Prince!” she said happily as she came around the counter. “What a wonderful surprise! It has been so long.” Her eyes fell on Hydrus. “Oh my, who is this little cutie pie?”

Hydrus blushed softly and shyly hid his face in his papa’s neck causing the adults to chuckle.

“This is my son, Hydrus,” said Elenos as he rubbed the child’s back.

The woman’s eyes widened as she stared from the boy to Elenos. “T-this is Hydrus?” she asked. At Elenos’ nod she squealed softly and clapped her hands. “Oh Blessed Day! The gods shine on us and bring good fortune.”

Elenos stood a little straighter as he took a deep breath and smiled at her. “Thank you, Tayla,” he said. He then looked at his child. “Hydrus, I’d like to introduce you to Tayla Rivien. She is a vampire like me and this is her shop.”

Hydrus peeked out from his Papa’s neck and gave her a tiny wave. “Hello,” he said quietly.

Tayla cooed at him. “Oh how precious,” she said. Her eyes then landed on Fenrir and she raised a brow. “Who let the dog in?”

Fenrir glowered at her in a deadpan expression. “Har, har,” he grumbled.

Giggles erupted from Tayla and she smiled at him. “Good to see you too, Lord Fenrir,” she said, then turned back to Elenos. “So, Lord Elenos, what brings you to my humble shop today? Surely it wasn’t just to show me your charming little boy.”

“Of course not,” chuckled Elenos. “Hydrus here needs a full wardrobe. He was rescued two days ago and is now finally out of the goblin hospital. We unfortunately don’t have anything for him to wear, we were not prepared.”

Tayla grinned widely and clapped her hands again. “Not to worry My Lord,” she said, “I will make little Hydrus look like the prince he truly is. Full wardrobe you said?”

“Yes, a full wardrobe,” replied Elenos as he set Hydrus down on the ground, the child clung to his leg. “Give us the works.”

Tayla squealed again and ushered them to the back of the room. The next three hours was the most fun Hydrus had ever had in his short life and the most torturous for one Fenrir Greyback. Hydrus tried on all sorts of clothes, tee-shirts, long sleeved shirts, trousers, jumpers, dungarees, even formal clothes. Then there were the wizarding robes he got to try. Hydrus lost count how many shoes his papa picked out. As he watched his papa move about the store with Tayla it reminded him of how Petunia would be with Dudley at the stores, though Dudley didn’t enjoy the shopping like he was. A thought struck him and he looked over at Elenos who had his back to him and he was examining a gray silk top.

“Pama!” said Hydrus. Everyone stopped and turned to him.

“What was that baby?” asked Elenos curiously.

Hydrus grinned and pointed at Elenos. “Pama! You’re now Pama!”

Elenos tilted his head curiously and sat beside his son. “What does that mean sweetie?”

Hydrus played with the sleeve of his new blue jumper that he wore under black dungarees, his little feet wiggled around in his new dragonhide boots. “It’s Papa and Mama put together,” he said softly. “You remind me of a mama when you shop. Aunt Petunia liked to shop for Dudley and you seem to like shopping. That and you give me lots of kisses and call me baby and sweetie and things a mama says.” The boy then got nervous as everyone stared at him. “B-but I won’t call you that if you don’t like it.”

Elenos pulled Hydrus into his lap and held him close to his chest. “You can call me whatever you wish,” he said and kissed his forehead. Hydrus smiled happily and snuggled into his Pama.

Thirty minutes later Fenrir was paying for their purchases while carrying two bags. They would be bringing home premade clothes that fit their little boy while all the custom made clothes would be delivered via owl. After the clothing store they stopped by a toy store. Hydrus got three new stuffed animals, two toy dragons and a herd of thestrals (six, there were six), a train set, several children's books, and a new green blankie. By the time they arrived home Hydrus was once again fast asleep. Elenos tucked their little boy into bed while Fenrir used magic to have the clothes put themselves away. When they left the room they left the door cracked just a little. The two men made their way back downstairs.

Elenos made his way into the kitchen to put the kettle on while Fenrir lounged on the couch.

“When are you heading back to Hogwarts?” asked Fenrir as he watched Elenos in the kitchen. There was just something so calming, so domestic about watching the vampire make tea.

Elenos took a deep breath and looked up at him. “I have to return tonight,” he said. “Unfortunately this is my weekend to patrol but I am free next weekend. I’ll be able to spend the whole weekend with you and Hydrus.” The man poured them two cups of tea before joining Fenrir on the couch.

Fenrir took the mug from Elenos and took a long sip of the hot liquid. He hissed when he was done and set the mug down. “When are we faking the death of Severus Snape?”

“What do you mean?” asked Elenos as he raised a brow, mug half way to his mouth.

“We need you, Elenos,” said Fenrir seriously. “Hydrus needs you, I need you. It would be much easier for all of us if you were here and not at Hogwarts. Severus Snape needs to disappear and Elenos Prince needs to make his debut.”

“Not yet,” said Elenos. “Not until after you take care of the Harry Potter golem and the Dursley’s. It would be too suspicious if Severus Snape were to go missing the same time Harry Potter was announced dead. There would be a manhunt for my head as everyone would think I am his murderer. No, best to wait.”

“How long must we wait?” growled Fenrir.

“A year… maybe two unless we can find and restore Cadmus sooner. Best wait until then.” Elenos got up to top off his mug with more tea.

Fenrir scoffed and got off the couch. “I hate waiting,” he said.

Elenos looked at him. “I know, Love.” He walked back to Fenrir and pressed a hand to his chest. “You’re tense, I suggest you go release some of that tension.”

The werewolf smirked and wrapped his arms around Elenos’ waist. “I could release some tension with you,” he smirked.

“As tempting as that sounds,” replied Elenos, “best to wait when Hydrus is down for the night, not a nap. There is no telling when he will wake up.”

Fenrir groaned and pressed his forehead to Elenos’. “You’re killing me here.”

Elenos chuckled lightly and smirked at him. “No, I’m not. Just giving you an overwhelming case of blue balls. No go, I’ll stay here and tend to our son.” He then turned Fenrir and pushed him towards the door. The man made no protest but gave Elenos a wink as he left the house.

Fenrir returned to the cabin at dinner time to find Elenos and Hydrus in the kitchen preparing dinner. The child was talking a mile a minute about things he had learned in one of the books Laurigo had given him. When the child spotted him he gave him a great big smile with a shout of “Daddy!” before he raced into the man’s arms. Dinner was a simple affair with mashed potatoes, broccoli, and some veal that Fenrir had in the ice-box.

After dinner it was bathtime for Hydrus. The child was in awe that he actually got to have a bath with hot water. It broke Elenos’ heart to hear he was only allowed to use cold water and Fenrir tried to keep the murderous look off his face. After the bath it was story time. Elenos sat with Hydrus on his bed, the child snuggled into his side as his Pama read to him. Fenrir had conjured a chair in the corner and sat it as he watched them with a fond smile.

All too soon it came time to say goodbye.

“When will you come back, Pama?” asked Hydrus softly as he clutched his snake, which was still his favorite toy.

“Soon baby,” said Elenos as he brushed his son’s damp curls off his face. “I will be back next weekend and I will be able to stay with you the whole time.”

Hydrus smiled softly as he reached for his pama’s hand. He would get to see his pama a lot sooner than he thought and for that he was happy. “Okay.”

Elenos leaned forward and kissed his son on the head. He then grabbed a clear bottle with a purple liquid in it off the dresser and pulled out pasteur pipette*. He squeezed the tip and the liquid was sucked into the tube. “Open your mouth baby,” he said softly.

Hydrus did as he was told and opened his mouth. Elenos squeezed two small drops onto the child’s tongue before putting the bottle and pipette back on the dresser. He then turned back to his son.

“You be good for Daddy,” said Elenos as the child’s eyes started to get heavy. “Take your potions like you're supposed to and remember to have fun with Daddy.”

Hydrus opened his mouth in a big yawn then snuggled further into the covers. “Yes Pama,” he said sleepily. “Love you, Pama.” His eyes closed and his breathing evened out as he fell asleep.

Tears welled in Elenos’ eyes as he kissed his son one more time. “I love you too, Baby,” he whispered softly into his ear. It took all his strength to tear himself away from the child and leave the room. Fenrir was waiting for him downstairs by the front door. Elenos gave him a sad smile before hugging the man tightly.

Fenrir nuzzled his face into the vampire’s hair. “Don’t worry,” he said softly, “he’s safe here. I’ll take care of him.”

“You better,” said Elenos as he pulled away, “or I’ll kill you myself.”

Fenrir grinned and kissed him one more time. “Stay safe.”

Elenos nodded as he pulled a necklace from his pocket and slipped it over his head. Almost immediately his appearance changed to that of one Severus Snape. “I detest this form,” he muttered. It reminded him too much of his past and his muggle father. He was happy for the fact he inherited his mother’s looks though in his true form.

Fenrir chuckled and shrugged his shoulders when the man glared at him. “It’s not so bad.” He laughed more when Severus rolled his eyes then left the house without another word. He watched until he couldn’t see his mate anymore before he shut the door and went upstairs to bed himself.
