Chapter 1: Introduction (Himeko)
Chapter Text
It was night time. The subtle breeze hung cold in the streets as Himeko walked aimlessly round and about. It was definitely a weird timing to be mulling over passing thoughts.
But alas, Himeko had nowhere to go as she had escaped her house through the back window of her room when she heard her mother knock on the front door.
It was only 7 in the evening on a chilly Thursday night as Himeko leaned on the headrest reading one of the new top seller books from the local library when there was a knock on the door. 'Huh, i don't think anyone would be visiting me at this hour without a prior plan..,' She mused. "Himeko! I know you're there. Open the door now. Me and your father have something important to discuss with you." As soon as she heard the although muffled voice of her mother, Himeko knew she was in a bad moon judging by the way she was talking. Himeko closed her book and placed it on the nightstand quickly as her eyes darted around the room to look for a place where she could hide from her mother. As her eyes quickly roamed around, she took notice of the window by her desk. 'Aha! Great mind you got there Himeko,' She praised herself. She opened the window quickly and jumped out as soon as she heard her mother unlocking the door possibly with the spare key she took without consent from Himeko but the latter had done nothing to oppose her mother's action that time because she knew it would lead to an argument and her mother would simply punish her.
Sighing to herself, she looked back at the path she came from.
'It's been a good couple hours, she wouldn't be in the house for that long, would she?'
Himeko knew this was pointless because once her mother set her mind on doing something, she wouldn't let go without a fight.
"A beautiful lady wandering aimlessly on an empty street on such a late night. Wouldn't that make her an easy victim to be taken advantage of by creeps?"
Himeko suddenly looked back at the front and locked eyes with a woman she spent half her life despising.
God, those eyes.
The said woman had the most beautiful shade of magenta hair, her eyes being in a similar shade. She had a pair of black glasses on the top of her head. She wore a white dress shirt exposing the top of her back and shoulders along with a black jacket draped over her shoulders.
She wore another black item, high waisted tights that seemed to accentuate her legs ever more. Her hands- Himeko realised that she was checking out the woman and quickly diverted her gaze as she heard a raspy chuckle from the infuriating woman.
She slowly turned her head back to look at the woman and took notice of the lazy smirk that was hanging on her face.
"Why are you wearing sunglasses in the night, Kafka?"
Himeko asked in a not so polite tone but she couldn't care less about showing manners to this godforsaken woman.
"My my, you're as feisty as ever Himeko. I simply came here to give your notes back. Bladie told me to thank you on his behalf, he couldn't come as he had plans with someone but didn't want to keep you waiting for your notebook too long. Quite the charm, no?"
Kafka mused while continuing to draw out each and every word for a long time to make the already angry Himeko even more mad.
"For fuck's sake.." Himeko angrily muttered under her breath snatching her notebook from Kafka and walked off towards her house.
As much as Himeko didn't want to return to her house she knew that if she stayed her mind would be fried by the nonsense Kafka would keep spewing out non-stop.
Kafka wasn't her classmate in fact she didn't even attend the same college as her. She was a dropout per se, but that didn't seem to have stopped her since she was now a world famous actress.
Mostly known for her cunning roles in all the shows she's been a part of, sometimes Himeko wonders if Kafka even needs to act in them.
Himeko on the other hand, was a second-year master's degree student in science aerospace and is almost complete with her PhD at the young age of 21. People would call her a nerd but what else could she do?
Her parents never let her do anything except studies so it was easy for her to be on top in every subject in high school.
Himeko also works as a part time barista in a cafe, Astral Express. Quite the name no? Studying science aerospace and working at a place called 'Astral Express'.
Himeko and Kafka had attended high school together. Himeko, being the reserved nerd whose curfew wasn't past 10pm and Kafka, being a widely known delinquent among her classmates.
Neither of them knew each other's existence until one of Himeko's only friend, Cocolia started dating Kafka only to be heart broken when Himeko and Cocolia caught Kafka cheating on the latter with none other than Blade.
Cocolia was devastated when she found out and Himeko didn't know how to comfort her.
That incident started a small torch of hatred inside Himeko for Kafka. It only fueled even more when- Himeko stopped her musings soon as it was getting more depressing.
At the end, Himeko could not bring herself to like Kafka in the least.
Himeko ended up opening her front door only to be met by a very angry mother and a disappointed looking father.
Himeko knew this was going to be a long night.
Chapter 2: Introduction (Kafka)
Summary:
The same night view from kafka
Chapter Text
The air tonight was indeed cold. Kafka was shivering the entire way back after talking to oh so sweet and charming Himeko. Kafka had always been a fan of Himeko, from the first day of highschool when she saw the exquisite lady to the present. Alas, had it not been for the stupid blonde woman, whom she can't even bother remembering the name of had destroyed her relationship with Himeko way before it even began.
Cocolia, she remembered. Oh Cocolia, the girl that is on 'my least favourite' list of Kafka's. She confessed her love to Kafka during lunch break on a bright sunny day during sophomore year. Kafka had almost thought about rejecting the poor girl ruthlessly but gave up on the idea as a picture of Himeko being happy (for Cocolia or not doesn't matter) made its way to her mind.
"Sure, why not? You're quite the beauty anyways." Is what she had said as a response.
After a few weeks, Kafka had caught Cocolia making out with another student, Serval. Kafka was mad. She was all in for dirty and mischief but cheating on someone was one of the only things that set her off. Maybe because of what that person had done that made it intolerable for Kafka, but regardless she was mad.
Kafka had wanted revenge so she made her best friend, Blade fake date her for a few weeks and when Cocolia found them kissing it made Kafka utterly satisfied. That's what she gets for not being loyal in the first place.
Of course Kafka was dating Cocolia just to see Himeko happy but even she knew boundaries. If Himeko had shown even a grain of romantic feelings towards Kafka, she would've broken up with Cocolia and tried to go after Himeko but she would have never cheated on Cocolia.
Kafka despised cheaters.

Chapter 3: Your number, please
Chapter Text
Finally, someone whispers...
"She was reborn in the fire. She was smiling in the fire."
Gasp.
"What kind of dream was that?"
Himeko was absolutely tired. Not only did she sleep for less than four hours, she also missed her first lecture of the day then someone accidentally splashed a hot cup of coffee onto her shirt in the hallway.
Now, for some reason there has been this uneasy feeling in the pit of her stomach since a weird dream she had. She couldn't even remember the details of it properly but there was this one line that kept coming up in her head throughout the day.
"She was reborn in the fire. She was smiling in the fire."
Himeko was lost in her thoughts until some coffee spilled over her hand and the table.
I'm at work, right
She suddenly realised she was still working and quickly got a napkin to wipe the table when she heard a group of giggles from the side.
More so, a group of idiots laughing at her. A stupid group of Kafka, Silverwolf and Blade.
Who the fuck thought of naming their kid Silverwolf anyway?
They were sitting on one of the big tables near the window, doing assignments as they said when in reality they were just goofing around like a bunch of middle schoolers.
And why is Kafka here? She doesn't even study anymore. What is wrong with this idiot?
Silverwolf, Blade and Kafka (Kafka at the last is intentional) always hung out together during high school.
At some point, Himeko was wondering if they were in a threesome or something. That didn't turn out to be true of course as Silverwolf started dating a junior after the whole Kafka and Cocolia ordeal.
"Oi! Waitress lady! Come here!" That damn wolf of the pack shouted at Himeko.
Himeko was mad and didn't want to go pick their order but Stelle and the rest were taking a break at the back and she was the only one at the counter that time as it wasn't lunch time that time so she slowly made her way to their table clutching on to her notepad for dear life cause if she wasn't doing that she would've threw one of the chairs at Silverwolf's stupid face.
What she didn't realise though, was Kafka's gaze on her body as she made her way to them.
"Yes? Would you like to order anything right now?" Himeko said in a very polite voice, almost too polite that it sounded so fake even she cringed at herself.
"I'll have chocolate milk." Silverwolf said bemused barely paying attention to the waitress which only made her clutch her notepad harder as she started writing the orders.
"And the rest of you guys?"
"Black coffee. No sugar. No cream."
"And you, miss Kafka?"
"I'd like your number please. Thank you."
"And my number.... Excuse me, what?"
"I said I want your number. Did you not hear me?"
Himeko was stunned to say the least, many have hitted on her before of course but Kafka? Himeko was speechless. She was flustered of course but she was also a bit angry when she remembered what had happened with Cocolia in the past.
"I'm afraid that's not on the menu, sorry. Please order something that's actually there." Himeko was tired today and didn't have time to deal with the shit Kafka was doing, had it been any other day she would've beaten the shit out of Kafka for even thinking she could hit on her with such a lame line.
"What a shame" Kafka feigned hurt by putting her hand on her chest.
"I have an appointment in a half an hour anyway. I'll meet you guys later. See you Himeko."
Kafka blew a kiss at Himeko that was responded with a beyond disgusted face from Himeko.
Himeko just kept looking at Kafka as she made her way out and started walking towards her car and noticed how some people hiding from behind the cafe started clicking pictures of Kafka.
"Get our orders ready already."
"On it."
