Shadowborns

Summary:

Team Assignment Day doesn't go as planned...

Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Chapter Text

Team Assignment Day was a big day for the Knights. People would skip classes or work, just to be there early. Some even went as far as camping in the building, hoping to be the first to find out about their newly assigned team.

The list would be posted at exactly 13:00 on the Main Announcement board, right in front of the Main Entrance. By 13:01, the room would be completely crowded. The list itself wasn’t anything special; It was a plain, white paper that held the knights’ code names, grouped together in teams of however many people the masters had decided that time, connected with hyphens.

The teams were always meticulously created, each team designed to draw out the strengths of each person while balancing out their weaknesses. Some teams worked together all too well, so they had not been separated since their creation. For example, Red-Lime-Amber. Or Marine-Cream-Orange. These teams worked. They were inseparable. Powerful.

And yet, they were separated.

The new teams made little sense, in Nya’s opinion. She was a previous team leader, now demoted to a mere team member. Under Lime Knight’s leadership, no less!

The new assignments caused panic and worry to rise among the knights, as well as anger among the stronger trios. No one was happy.

Another thing that was rather evident was the segregation by x-born status. No one missed the way the shadowborns were teamed with each other, instead of being teamed with other lightborns. Nor the relief in the face of some lightborns when they noticed that segregation.

Nya had already found her team -it wasn’t hard. She was teamed with Jay and Morro-, and so had Zane. Pixal was teamed with Kai, and someone called Maroon Knight. She looked pretty young, from what Cole saw.

Cole’s own team was nowhere to be seen. He saw no knights with purple details, and he had no idea which shade of color was marine. If it was a color shade. It was, apparently, possible for someone to have a name not color-themed. Pixal, for example, was permitted to use the code name ‘X’. Especially since she was previously a mortal, so the armors didn’t react to her. (Kai had taken her a few hours before celebrating Nya’s return to buy armor. Pixal had chosen something similar to samurai armor, with red and golden details, complete with a blue full-body suit underneath - unlike the black one the other shadowborns wore.)

After an hour of Cole looking and asking around for his teammates, as well as standing still, he decided to give up. The training was canceled for the night, so he decided to get home, in hopes that he would get to meet the other two the next day.
