Chapter Text
Raindrops hit the car window that Shen Yuan was staring out of his cheek on the palm of his hand. Bored, beside him is his older brother Shen Jiu, who is driving...The car is quiet besides the sound of the rain hitting the car. "We're almost there," Shen Jiu mutters, looking down at his phone's GPS that was on Shen Jiu's.
"Why did you pick someplace in the middle of nowhere?" Shen Yuan huffs his eyes, leaving the window to stare at his brother. brother. Shen Jiu stays quiet, his eyes on the road, driving as the phone makes noises to turn right or left on the road. "It's far away from our parents...and somewhere where we can have a fresh start," Shen Jiu mutters in an emotionless voice. His eyes narrowed as they stared at the road ahead. The rain was heavy and didn't look like it would let up for a while.
Both of them stayed quiet until the GPS on the phone rang, letting Shen Jiu know they had made it there. "We're here Grab your boxes from the trunk." Shen Jiu said, getting out and shutting the car door behind himself without waiting for Shen Yuan's reply. Shen Yuan pouts at his brother, annoyed, before getting out of the car himself. Shen Yuan's eyes stared ahead of him, staring at the new house. It was dark brownish. It looked like it was a two-story house. It looked fine, just old. The rain and fog made it look more creepy and eerie.
"Hey, get over here! and help bring boxes into its pouring." Shen Jiu shouts, snapping Shen Yuan out of his daze.
"Coming...jeez" Shen Yuan walked over to his brother, who was unloading the trunk. The moment Shen Yuan stood next to his brother, Shen Jiu pushed a box into his hands. "Go put that inside," Shen Jiu hissed, not even glancing at Shen Yuan.
Shen Yuan only sighed at his brother's sassiness. He knew he wasn't any better; he was just better at hiding it than Shen Jiu was. "I'll get it right now," he said through gritted teeth. It was too rainy to stand out there and fight with his brother with another huff. Shen Yuan turns around, walking up to the porch of the house with the box in hand. As he went to open the door, he felt a shiver go down his spine, feeling eyes on him. It didn't feel like his brother's annoyed or glaring glance; it felt cold, making him uneasy. Shen Yuan glanced around, trying to see if anyone was out. His eyes were locked with someone else's house next door in a window from the top floor. His eyes were locked with his; he couldn't see them well from the rain and fog around him. The person was standing behind a curtain.
Shen Yuan swears the eyes looking at him were red; they looked to even be glowing.
When the eyes and person leave the window, Shen Yuan stares up at the empty window, "...weirdo," Shen Yuan mutters to himself, "..ow!" Shen Yuan whines when Shen Jiu walks up beside him with a box shouldering Shen Yuan's side. "The box is getting all wet. Stop staring at people's windows and go put it inside. There are more boxes," Shen Jiu says with an eye roll as he kicks at the door, opening Shen Yuan grumbles behind him as they walk inside.
"Set the boxes by the door and go grab another one," Shen Jiu says, setting the box he had down and walking out. "Yeah, yeah." Shen Yuan set his box down as he went back out into the rain to the other trunk. It took them an hour or so to get every box inside the house.
Shen Yuan sighed once they got everything in the house. "Shen Jiu..." Shen Yuan says, holding his brother's arm, "I'm hungry." Shen Yuan says, blinking up at his older brother, he was hoping Shen Jiu would make him something or get takeout. He couldn't cook very well the last time he tried; he burned their mother's oven top. "Get in the car. I saw a diner somewhere in town. We can go there since all the kitchen stuff is in boxes." Shen Jiu mutters, pulling his arm back from his brother to cross his arms, and turning to the door. Shen Yuan smiled happily as he ran out to the car, and got in. Shen Jiu sighed and got into the driver's seat.
Shen Yuan pulled out his phone to play a game to pass the time. Shen Jiu glanced over at Shen Yuan a few times while driving. The sound of Shen Yuan's game was the only sound in the cat. Besides Shen Yuan quietly cursing at the phone, it didn't take long to get to the diner. Shen Jiu would normally rather go to a nice restaurant, but he was too tired from the drive to the new place. It took almost the whole day; he could see the sky turning a little darker, the rain wasn't calming down, and he probably wouldn't until later in the night.
Shen Jiu pulls up to the diner parking the car and says, "Come on." Shen Jiu mutters to Shen Yuan as he pulls his keys out of the car, getting out of the car and shutting the door behind himself. Shen Yuan follows, getting out and walking up onto the sidewalk out front of the diner. He was walking behind Shen Jiu, trying to keep his phone from getting wet by the rain.
The sound of bells rings out when Shen Jiu opens the diner door. They both sit down at a booth across from each other, Shen Jiu closer to the door. Shen Jiu opens the menu, looking it over. He glances up at Shen Yuan with a sigh, seeing Shen Yuan glued to the phone. He'll just order for his brother, which he does most of the time anyway. He didn't want to fight his brother for the phone. The waitress comes over, her blonde hair tied into a bun, smiling down at Shen Jiu. "What can I get for you two?" she asks.
Shen Jiu closed the menu, handing it to her. "I'll have a tea with no sugar, and he'll just have fries and a burger with water." Shen Jiu said his voice monotone, not wanting to talk to others more than he had to. The waitress nodded a little quieter from Shen Jiu's monotone as she left to ring in the order.
They sat in peaceful silence like they both liked no loud noises.
The sound of the doorbells ringing didn't get Shen Yuan's attention until he felt eyes on him. Was he being stared at? looking up from his phone Shen Yuan tilted his head to the side to see who had walked in. He blinked for a few moments. Two people had walked in, very tall men. Both men had pale skin, long curling brown hair, and an aura around them that made Shen Yuan a little weary. They had to be brothers or something; they looked very similar.
One of them was staring at him. Shen Yuan swears something about those eyes that seemed familiar to him when he remembers seeing someone looking at him from the window of the house next door.
"...something wrong?" Shen Jiu asked, raising an eyebrow, seeing his brother staring at something from behind him. Shen Yuan blinked as he looked away from the man staring at him. "No, I think I see our waitress." Shen Yuan said setting his phone on the table, he could still feel the eyes on him. It felt like those eyes were looking inside of him to his core, making the hair on the back of his neck stand up. "Here is your order." The waitress sets his plate down and water then sets a tea cup in front of Shen Jiu before she leaves.
Shen Yuan glances back over at where the man is. Both of the men weren't there. He glanced around the diner, finding both men in a booth not too far away. He locked eyes with the same guy as before. He quickly looked away. Why was this guy staring at him? kind of creepy buddy...
"What?" Shen Jiu says, taking a sip of his tea, and his eyes narrow at Shen Yuan.
"..." Shen Yuan glances back again to check if he's still being watched his eyes meet the man's eyes again! He turns back around, yup! still being stared at. "That guy over there has been staring at me since he and the other dude walked in; he hasn't looked away since!" Shen Yuan whispered shouts. Shen Jiu set his cup down before peeking over to take a look himself before looking back at his brother. "Hmm, he is," Shen Jiu muttered. "Told you so." Shen Yuan whined; he could feel holes burning into the back of his head.
"Just ignore it and eat your food. You were whining about how hungry you were, were you not?" Shen Jiu huffs, enjoying his tea, as he pushes Shen Yuan's plate closer to Shen Yuan.
Shen Yuan grumbled but started to eat his food, trying to ignore the staring. They both finished their food and drinks. Shen Yuan could only sigh; this guy was still staring at him! He looked back at the waitress before, walking to the men's table with a black coffee for one of the men. The guy with Mr. Staring problem points at our table, telling her something before she nods and heads back to the back. Shen Yuan jumped when the other man looked over at him and his brother, making him turn back around.
"Shen Jiu-" Shen Yuan is cut off when the waitress comes over to take their dirty dishes. "Can I get the check?" Shen Jiu grumbles, and the waitress smiles. "No need for that, the two gentlemen over there already paid for your things already," she says. Shen raised an eyebrow, blinking. "I can pay for my own things," he says, trying to hand her his card. "I'm sorry, but the bill has already been paid by them," she says with a nervous smile. Shen Jiu tsks, "Tell them I can pay for things," Shen Jiu says with an annoyed smile, her eyes twitching.
"I'm sorry, I can't redo that; they were very insistent on paying," she mutters before leaving the table with the dirty dishes. Shen Jiu huffs, getting out of the booth, his eyes narrowed over to the two men. The one was still staring at his little brother, while the other only glanced back at him. Shen Jiu glared, grabbing Shen Yuan's hand and leaving the diner.
They both get into the car. Shen Jiu grumbled to himself, "Is it really too big of a deal for them to pay?" Shen Yuan asks, tilting his head, "I don't need people to pay for my things; I can pay for my own damn things." Shen Jiu hissed. Shen Yuan swears his brother reminds him of a cat when pissed off. Sometimes "point taken." Shen Yuan sighed. He was tired. The drive home was short. The rain was a little lighter now that it was night. Shen Yuan walked into the house. Shen Jiu said behind him, "Your bed is already upstairs; you move the rest of your crap tomorrow." Shen Jiu says going up the stairs to the room he had picked out when he looked at the photos of the house
Shen Yuan yawned, nodding, going up to his own room. He opened the door and walked into the room. Only his bed and desk were in the room. Shen Yuan flipped down on the mattress, tiredly curling up under the blankets, not bothering to change his clothes as he passed out rather fast. The car ride had tired him out.
