Growing up

Summary:

A few stories about Charlie and Seviathan growing up together.

Notes:

Alright, this is going to be super sappy and very Disney inspired, so if that’s not your thing I understand. Alas, I am a child at heart. It’s also going to be a little like The Swan Princess (great movie) but only in the first few chapters. I actually REALLY like these two and I just imagine that they had the perfect old Disney style romance so HAVE FUN. Ok peace and love.

Chapter 1: First greeting

Chapter Text

“Trust me, you’ll like her.” His father crooned as they approached the doors to the Morningstar palace. The young prince scoffed as he crossed his arms over his chest.

“But, Papa, what if she’s mean? Like Helsa?”

“Miss Charlie is nothing like your sister, I assure you. Now, please behave, Seviathan. I know you’re upset, but all I’m asking is for one play date. Understand?”

Seviathan nodded at his father as the doors to the palace swung open. A little imp greeted the Envy demons and quickly led them to an empty ballroom. The little prince marveled at the tall ceiling, gorgeous murals, various instruments scattered about, and the breathtaking chandelier in the center. Never in his seven years of existence, had Seviathan seen a room like this.

In the middle of the room sat a little blonde girl, who appeared to be around his age. She sat with her back turned to them and she had two, red, goat-shaped dolls in her hands. A blonde man sat with her and quickly walked over to Fredrick and Seviathan.

“Fredrick! It’s wonderful to see you again!”

Seviathan tuned the two men out as they laughed and spoke together. He kept his focus on the girl, Miss Charlie, he assumed. She kept glancing over her shoulder at him, then turning and whispering to the dolls. His eyes widened when he saw the two dolls move, realizing that they were, in fact, alive. He felt a gentle hand on his shoulder and spun around to see the blonde man kneeling down to him.

“Well, you must be Prince Seviathan. I’m so very happy to finally meet you.”

Seviathan adverted his eyes and nodded. He had never felt so bashful in front of adults before. The blonde man laughed softly.

“It’s alright. I know this can be daunting, but I bet the two of you will get along swimmingly! My Charlie can be a little shy, especially around new people, but she loves making new friends.”

He nodded again and glanced over to Charlie again. Fredrick gently pushed Seviathan towards Charlie and he cleared his throat.

“Now, go on. Don’t be shy. Remember, be nice.” His father urged him.

Seviathan sighed and accepted his fate. His father and the blonde man left, leaving him and Charlie alone. He slowly walked over to the girl and she quickly stood up. She had a nervous look on her face and she swiftly curtsied, almost like she had been trained to make such a gesture and it was almost second nature to her. Seviathan faintly bowed and then the two children just sort of stared at each other. Seviathan cleared his throat, a habit he picked up from his father, to fill the silence.

“So…” He said gently. “You must be Charlie.”

She nodded and smiled as she sat back down. The two goats stood behind her, and they seemed more nervous than the two children combined.

“Yes, I’m Charlie. Well, actually, my real name is Charlotte but everyone calls me Charlie.”

The young prince paused and raised an eyebrow as he stared at the princess. Charlotte was definitely more regal sounding, so why didn’t she just go by that? He shrugged and sat down with her.

“Do you have a nickname? Like, my name is Seviathan, but my sister calls me Kiwi because of the black and white spots in my hair.” He said as he pointed to the white stripes and black dots in his emerald green hair. The princess shook her head.

“No, I don’t have a nickname.”

“Well, how about Lottie. I like that. It’s short for Charlotte.”

The princess smiled and stood up. She placed her hands on her hips in an attempt to seem more commanding.

“Alright, I’ll make you a deal. You can call me Lottie as long as I get to call you Sevvy. A nickname for a nickname, if you will. Deal?”

She stuck her hand out as Seviathan stood up. He shrugged and took her hand. A faint smile tugged on his lips as they shook.

“Deal.”

A small red and green spark erupted from their hands. A gentle shock sent them both tumbling to the wooden flooring with a gasp.

“What the heck was that?” Seviathan cried as he helped Charlie back up to her feet. Be a gentleman, his father’s voice repeated in his head.

“I don’t know…” She mumbled as she used his hand to pull herself back up. She gasped as she looked down at their hands. “Look! Sevvy!” She said as she held their still clasped hands up.

A little red light of string was tied around her pinky finger and pooled on the ground below them, fading into a rich green that tied around Seviathan finger.

“Woah…” He mused. “What is it?”

The princess shrugged and smiled.

“I don’t know. But, you know, I really like being with you.” Charlie said before she leaned over and gently kissed his cheek.

‘Boys like it when you kiss their cheek’, her mother had told her that morning. ‘But,’ she had also warned. ‘You should only kiss the cheek of boys that she felt like she was tied to.’ Lilith would say as she lifted the princess up into her arms. ‘For a queen such as myself would never dream of kissing another man other than your father.’ Charlie would giggle and her mother would kiss the top of her nose and remind her just how beautiful she was.

The light faded, but yet, the two could still feel the knot. They played together in the ballroom, and it was time for Seviathan to leave before he knew it. He thought he would hate this play date, but he couldn’t help but feel sad as he left.

Chapter Text

The prince and princess sat out by the river in the gardens of the Pride Ring Palace. Well, Charlie sat by the river. Seviathan waded in dark waters and looked down into the river. It was no surprise that the prince wished to play in the water, his family were aquatic demons. They resembled eels and squids. Seviathan was made for the water, Charlie was not. Seviathan could move with grace and ease in Hell’s oceans and seas, whereas Charlie glided over ballroom floors and in her pointe shoes. They were thirteen years of age, and every year was a year closer to their inevitable engagement.

The prince looked at Charlie and scoffed as she sat at the bank of the river. “You are aware that we’re supposed to play together, correct?”

The princess sighed and tossed her head back. “Yes, Sevvy, I’m aware! But I don’t like the water. I’m not supposed to get my dress wet.”

Seviathan scoffed and turned his back to her. “I’m not supposed to get my dress wet…” He mumbled underneath his breath, mocking her. He eventually climbed out of the water and shook his hair out in an attempt to dry it. Charlie gasped and scooted away from him.

“Oh, gracious, you’re disgusting! What are you, a dog?” She hissed. She stood up and crossed her arms. “Well, I do believe that it’s my turn to pick our next game.”

Seviathan ran his fingers through his hair and looked at Charlie as she took his hand. “And what is our next game, Lottie?” He asked as she pulled him into a small wooden shed, grabbing a plum shawl and a woven basket.

She tied the plum shawl around her big, loose blonde curls and it hung over her shoulders. She wiped the water droplets off of her black corset and dress. “We’re going to pick flowers and fruits in the forest that lies deeper in the gardens.” She stated as she took his hand again.

They walked into the forest and eventually found a small clearing, surrounded by large and tall trees. The ground beneath them was covered with beautiful flowers and bushes, full of sweet berries and the trees were glowing with fruit.

Charlie knelt down in the patch of flowers and slowly began to tuck some into her basket while Seviathan ate some of the berries off of the bushes.

“You know…” Charlie started, “I keep having this dream.”

The prince looked up from the handful of berries in his hand. “Do you now?” He said, absentmindedly.

Charlie nodded. “I do.” She sighed, a dreamy sigh. “I’m in a room, sitting on a large bed and it’s dark outside. I’m in a white dress. And it’s beautiful. The room and the dress. There’s candles everywhere, and rose petals.” She sighed again. “I haven’t the slightest clue what it’s about, oh, but I know it’s something good.”

“Then what happens?” Seviathan asked.

Charlie looked sad for a moment. “Then I wake up. Yes, it’s only in my dreams.” She said as a bird fluttered around her. “But, they say if you dream a thing more than once, it’s sure to come true.” She paused for a moment before she gasped and covered her mouth with her hands.

“What? What’s wrong?” The prince asked as he quickly jumped up and ran over to her.

“Oh, I shouldn’t have told you! Now it’ll never come true!”

“Come true? What will come true?”

“My dream!”

“Well, why ever not?” Seviathan asked as he stood up.

“Because; if you tell a wish, it won’t come true.”

The boy tilted his head in utter confusion as the princess stood up, giggling as his silly expression.

“A dream is a wish your heart makes, Sevvy.” She informed him as she grabbed her basket, as if it was common knowledge. “Or, that’s what my father tells me.”

Suddenly, there was a large toll from the clock in the center of Pentagram City. Charlie huffed and crossed her arms in frustration.

“Oh, that clock! Old killjoy. I hear you!” She shouted at the tolling as she dragged herself and the prince out of the forest, through the gardens and back into the safety of the palace. “Come on, go home, you say. Time to stay locked inside for another day.” She turned to look at Seviathan. “Even he orders us around. Well, there’s one thing. They can’t order us to stop dreaming.” She stated as they wandered into the library, content with finding their entertainment elsewhere.
