Chapter 2: DISCLAIMER AND STUFF
Chapter Text
It was only some food.
It was supposed to only be food.
Sirius Black stalked the night, looking both ways and making sure nobody saw him. Blood trailed down his beautiful face as he looked for more to eat. Some may call him gluttonous, but he found the taste of human blood too savory to leave behind. He retreated when the dawn came, like he did many nights before, alone in his large house bought with his inheritance. Off to his coffin, falling asleep until the next night. He did more than eat. He was an academic. He read, he wrote, he loved and he longed. He walked along the streets, watching the humans dwell, dwindling their lives away. He had fallen in love with some but the concept of time always ripped them away. He had stopped falling in love after a few years, right after James. Time was nothing to him, but entirely too important to the humans. For now he'd sleep. For now he'd stay there, taking the moment and tasting it.
The routine of eating and reading and writing cycled over and over. Sirius was working on a biography. He had grown slightly bored of it. He replenished his library, got new records, polished his piano skills, but nothing worked. He was just burned out. He tried everything. He ate less, he painted portraits, then burned them in his incinerator, he was bored and lonely. He needed a companion. Once the thought entered his mind, he couldn't let it go. He brought another coffin, he redid his guest room for this nameless companion. He looked for one. The people of France were uninspired, boring. There were women and there were men, but they were boring. He quit after four days. He went to the opera and drank some ambassador's blood. He found himself stupid. He should've even tried to look for a companion.
He left the opera, light headed and annoyed. He will return the coffin tomorrow. He walked home, annoyed and slightly drunk. He thought of the many times he wondered if he should get a companion. He had failed every time. It wasn't the matter of not finding one, he had turned many mortals into vampires, but they all left. Ever since James left Sirius wasn't the same. He was a fool to think that the two would stay best friends forever. He hated James, yet if he was in a room full of everyone he's ever met, his eyes would search for James Potter. Their friendship was different, it was not normal. They had killed together, they read together, they talked together. He wanted that, he needed a codependency. He looked up and saw something on top of a building. A person balancing off a building, ready to jump. He licked his lips and watched. That would be his companion.

Remus Lupin walked the streets of France, wondering if he'd live past twenty. He had fallen into a deep depression. Nobody understood him, time was moving too fast, he didn't belong. He didn't have many friends, but that was okay. It wasn't okay but it was okay. He had been teetering between life and death. Life dragged on, people changed like seasons and he realized that he had nothing to live for. His parents were long gone, he had no money, no family, Why was he there? When he got evicted from his apartment it pushed him over the edge. He went on top of a building and went to kill himself.
It was still midnight when he stood on top of a building. He teetered over the edge, wondering if it was worth it. He closed his eyes and breathed. He didn't really know if he wanted this. He shook his head and tried to get into the right headspace.
“Are you going to do it?” A voice said from behind him. Remus jumped. He almost fell off the edge. A strange enigma grabbed his jacket, pulling him up. Remus was shaking. He stepped off the edge and looked at the stranger who nearly killed him.
The man was quite handsome. He had long back hair and gray eyes that clashed against his pale skin. He wore an expensive black suit and a long black coat. Remus noticed a mass amount of rings on his fingers.
“Easy, easy” the man shushed. “Why are you trying to jump off this building, it's much too tall, you'll surely die”
“I know.. I want to die” Remus said, his throat raw. “I have nothing to live for, nobody understands me, I can't… I have no money, no family, no friends, nothing. I can't keep living like this” Remus put his head in his hands. He didn't know why the stranger was on the roof. He should've asked. He should've walked away. He should've picked another roof, maybe tried again another day.
“You poor thing” The man said, in almost a mocking tone. “You really want to feel death?”
Remus looked up in confusion. He nodded, tears in his eyes. The man hoisted him up by his arms and held him. Remus cried and wrapped his arms around the stranger, needy for the comfort. He on of the strangers freezing cold hands on his neck, making him shiver. He noticed that the stranger was as cold as a corpse, despite the mass amount of layers they were wearing. Remus' head rested on the strangers neck. He noticed a scar, a puncture mark. He closed his eyes, feeling a bit tired.
It wasn't until they rose into the midnight air that Remus started panicking. The wind blew slightly. Remus should've been scared… but he wanted death, right? His eyes locked with the strangers gray eyes.
“Do you still long for death, sweet thing?” The stranger asked, his voice a near whisper. Remus looked down towards the ground, feeling a strange fear. It must have been a dream. He didn't remember falling asleep, but this couldn't be real. He couldn't be flying above France with a strange man, who offered more comfort than anyone else in his life had. Remus realized that he was shaking. The wind blew his hair back and he contemplated the thought. He locked eyes with the stranger and nodded. The stranger smiled. Remus saw his teeth, his canines sharp. The stranger must have seen his falter. He opened his mouth and latched his teeth onto his neck.
Remus felt the pain of a thousand suns when the stranger bit his neck. He fought weekly, but the stranger held him tighter. It was a strange and intimate attack. He closed his eyes and fell into unconsciousness.

Chapter Text
Remus woke up in darkness. He groaned and felt his neck. He realized that he was in a box. He banged on the edges and gasped, wondering about the oxygen supply. What had happened? A dozen memories flooded back to him. He remembered a stranger, cold as ice, sharp teeth, pretty eyes. He banged on the edges and cried out.
“Let me out!” He screamed. He pushed the top and found that it opened. The box opened and Remus shot up, breathing heavily. He was in a beautiful room, decorated vintagely. The room was huge. It was as big as his sardine box apartment. He stood up and stumbled on the floor. He skittered to the door to find a man reading in an armchair.
The book was lowered slightly and the same beautiful face who bit him was there. Remus was hyperventilating, feeling sick. The man bookmarked his book and put it down. His hair was tied up and he was now wearing a pair of black silk pajamas.
“Hello Love” The man smiled. He kneeled on the floor and smiled at Remus. “How are you feeling?”
Remus was feeling awful. He slowed his breathing and counted to ten and closed his eyes. He could feel the strangers hand on his shoulder blade. He looked up at him, feeling wretched. He felt his eyes filling with tears, fear, failure and uncomfort mixed together and made this. The stranger shushed him, like he was Remus’ mother.
“What's your name?” The stranger whispered. Remus sniffled, feeling upset. He started crying and the stranger held onto him.
“Remus…” He cried. He clutched the stranger's shirt as he shook violently. Terrified.

Every reaction made Sirius heartsick. He held Remus and shushed him. He was so beautiful. He would make a lovely subject in his art work and a lovely companion.
“My name is Sirius Black” He whispered. Remus sobbed harder and shook more. Sirius ran his fingers through Remus’ hair. He hadn't taken a good look at him in the building. He noticed white healing scars on his face and arms. His eyes were a beautiful golden brown. They looked beautiful when they were filled with tears. Remus hiccuped and sobbed harder. Sirius helped him up and took him to the coffin. Remus shook his head quickly.
“No, no, I'm not dead!” He protested. Sirius smiled and guided him to a nearby chair, where he quickly put his head in his hands. He shook so violently that Sirius thought that he wouldn't stop. The cries eventually quieted down.
“You're not dead Remus, you're something worse” Sirius whispered. Remus looked up. “A creature in the night, so beautiful.. So deadly”
“I don't… I don't know what you're talking about” Remus hiccuped.
“You're a vampire,” Sirius smiled. “You're my Vampire, my companion, my muse, my prodigy, my friend” Sirius could see the fear flash through Remus’ beautiful eyes. He shook his head.
“It's wrong… those don't exist,” Remus said. Sirius didn't know what he was referring to in his first statement. What was wrong? Was he referring to the idea of vampires, or the idea of being Sirius’ companion.
“Don't they?” Sirius smiled standing up. He grinned as his feet lifted from the ground. He started levitating. Remus’ eyes flashed as he stood up. “You got exactly what you wanted, you wanted death, you wanted your human life to end and you got it. I granted you a life where you don't have to worry about friends, or financial issues, or time slowly running out. You have all the time in the world. I've taken care of everything for you. I haven't even heard a thank you, though, I don't know if those words are in your vocabulary yet…”
Remus struggled to grasp the words. Sirius watched as he came to the realization that Sirius was right, he didn't have anything to complain about. He was dead and alive, he was wealthy, and he was immortal. Remus looked at the floor and Sirius sighed. He lowered himself to the ground and shook his head, unsatisfied. He should've been happy. Any other mortal would've been overjoyed to be an immortal vampire.
“This is your room, Remus. I'll leave you to be acquainted to it. The sun rises in 30 minutes, so I wouldn't go outside. I wouldn't want you to burn to a painful crisp while you have a beautiful home right here” Sirius smiled. Remus paled and nodded. With that, Sirius left the room and went to his own, wondering if Remus would escape his loving arms.
Chapter Text
Remus was woken up by the lid of his coffin being opened. Sirius’ face beamed down on him. He smiled and held out his hand. Remus hesitantly took it and stood up. Sirius helped him out the coffin and led him out the room.
“I thought you would run away” He smiled “I'm glad you didn't, you would've missed out on breakfast”
“What's.. What's for breakfast?” Remus asked timidly. The two walked outside. The moon was high and there were a few people in the street.
“Anyone you want,” Sirius whispered. Remus pushed him away, walking down the stairs leading up to the house. Sirius put his hands in his pockets and smiled. Remus looked around and struggled to find the words, an occurrence that had happened many, many times.
“You want me… you want me to eat a person?” Remus asked, breathlessly. Sirius grabbed Remus’ hand and closed the front door.
“Of course, what else will you eat? I'll teach you how to do it, of course. You can use your new sharp teeth” Sirius jokes. Remus noticed that he did in fact, have fangs. He gasped and felt them obsessively, wondering if he could file them down. Sirius pointed to a portly man walking next to a woman in a blue dress. “What about him?”
“No, not anyone, no” Remus sputtered.
“Are you not hungry?” Sirius asked, concerned. Remus was not hungry, Remus was starving. Remus had been starving for a while. He was thirsty too. He had to admit, he found himself salivating when looking at people. Sirius put his hands on Remus' shoulders. He had still not gotten used to the excessive touch. Remus found himself nodding.
Sirius and Remus crossed the street, arm in arm. Remus walked towards a nearby man and pushed him into an alleyway.
“Wait-” Sirius started, but it was too late. Remus had sunk his teeth in the man's throat. He sucked the blood out of the man as he struggled. Remus couldn't get enough. After a couple minutes he realized what he had done. He pushed the man away and backed against the wall, blood dripping from his mouth. Remus licked his lips and shook his head. He looked at Sirius who grinned wildly at the man. The man fell sideways, dead. He looked skinny, unnaturally so. Remus looked back at Sirius, in fear. He didn't know what he had done. He started crying again. The guilt rushed back to him as Sirius shushed him.
“You did amazing, why are you crying?” Sirius laughed. He helped Remus up and wrapped his arms around him. “You drained him dry”
The statement did not calm Remus down. He cried harder. Sirius pushed Remus off him and took out a handkerchief. Remus flinched as Sirius wiped Remus’ bloody mouth with a handkerchief. Sirius led Remus back across the street, into the house where he leaned against the wall.
“I know the killing is hard at first, but it's the only way” Sirius said, walking to the nearby stairs. He went up two stairs, looked back, and tilted his head. Remus hesitantly followed him. Sirius introduced Remus to almost every room in the house. He was brought to two doors and told not to enter them, he was shown a library, a bathroom, a living room, a game room, an art room, any activity that he could think of had a room. He learned that his room was downstairs, as opposed to Sirius’ who was upstairs. He liked that his room was miles away from Sirius’. Sirius had been a gracious host, but a suspicious host. He felt like Sirius talked in metaphors, either that or he was always foreshadowing events that Remus had yet to understand.
Remus did understand some things. He understood that Sirius had turned him into this goddamned creature of the night because he was lonely. He understood that Sirius was far more powerful than him. He understood that Sirius had a short temperament and was easily annoyed. He understood that Sirius was an artist and he had many muses. Most terrifyingly of all, he understood that Sirius had prepared for his arrival. He had bought the coffin, he emptied the room, for his new companion. He wondered how long Sirius knew of his existence.
“And this is the kitchen, I never use it, all of our food is outside anyways” Sirius said, crossing his arms. “Are you alright, you look overwhelmed?”
“I'm fine,” Remus said quietly. Sirius stared at him for a few minutes. Remus wondered if Sirius could read his mind.

Sirius saw everything. He saw the slight hesitation, he saw the fear and he saw the confusion. He wished he knew what was going on inside Remus’ head. He had told Sirius that he was “Fine” but Sirius knew that it was either not true, or a half truth. He remembered when he himself was turned, a flurry of thought christening his mind. He remembered being excited, but fearful. He realized that it must have been different for Remus.
“What do you like to do in your free time, Mon Cher ?” Sirius asked, leaning against a counter. Remus paused for a minute. Sirius watched as his beautiful brown eyes looked down at the ground, thinking of any semblance in his past life that would bring him an ounce of peace.
“I liked to read… and listen to music,” Remus finally said. Sirius nodded.
“What's your favorite book?” Sirius said “I'm sure I have it, I replenish my library every three years”
That made Remus’ eyes lift from the floor. Sirius couldn't help but smile. He put his hand on Remus’ back and guided him to the library. He watched with delight as Remus was fully encapsulated by the books, his delicate fingers tracing over the spines. He looked at every single one, handling the books with care. Eventually he grabbed one and brought it to an armchair that Sirius had placed next to his own usual chair. He watched as Remus looked back at him hesitantly.
“You don't have to hesitate, what's mine is yours” Sirius encouraged. Remus nodded and opened the book. He quietly started reading. He reminded Sirius of James. James was quite louder and more overjoyed to be a vampire, but Remus did small things that reminded him of James. Remus looked up and looked around the room. He looked at the portraits on the wall.
“Do you paint?” He asked. If the room wasn't so quiet, Sirius wouldn't have caught it.
“Yes, I'll have to paint you one day, you have a beautiful face” Sirius smiled. Remus looked uneasy and nodded. Sirius was disappointed in a way. He was glad Remus wasn't crying, but he wished he was more talkative. He would eventually talk more, when he started to trust him more. Sirius stood up abruptly, making Remus look up.
“I'm going to go run some errands, stay here” Sirius smiled. Remus paused. It was a test. Of course it was a test. There would be more tests in the future. It was a test to see if Remus would listen. If he left, Sirius would find him. If he stayed he would have some sort of reward. Sirius put his coat on, peaked back into the library, and left to go get his food.
Chapter Text
Remus stayed in the house. He didn't stay in the library. He walked around the large house, looking through every room. He looked through the art room, where canvases sat. The smell of paint illuminated the room. Every single painting was a portrait painting. He left the room exactly as he found it.
He went into Sirius’ bedroom and frowned. It was highly decorated. The shelves were filled with nick-nacks and multiple perfumes. There was a mirror on the right of his coffin. He had a wardrobe filled with clothing. Remus admired the paintings on his walls. He ran his fingers over the nick-nacks on his shelf. He grabbed a small figure of a black dog. Without thinking he left the room with it in his hand. He closed the door and continued walking around the house, a dead man walking.
He looked out the window to look at the backyard. Sirius had specifically told him to stay in the house. A figure emerged in the darkness. Remus couldn't help but watch as Sirius appeared in the darkness, holding two bodies. He recognized the body of the man that he had earlier killed. Sirius put the bodies into a machine and smoke came out the side. Remus realized that it was an incinerator. He turned and ran to his room.
Remus heard the front door open and a light shuffling. Remus sat in his coffin, reading a book. He heard Sirius’ footsteps. Remus had hidden the black dog that he had taken. It felt fair. Sirius had taken his life, so he would take a small thing from him. His door creaked open and Sirius stood in the doorway. Remus lowered the book as the man's gray eyes bore into his. Sirius looked around the room, slowly, methodically.
“We must go furniture shopping, this room is terribly empty” Sirius said, breaking the deafening silence. The black dog sat behind Remus’ pillow.
“Maybe you can paint me something, I can put it on the wall,” Remus said. Sirius smiled and nodded.
“Good idea” He strode to Remus’ coffin and sat down next to it. Remus bookmarked the book and put it down. “What did you do while I was gone?”
Remus’ heart beat faster.
“Not much, I looked around the house more… I didn't know there was a backyard “ Remus said. Sirius frowned. He seemed bored of the topic instantly, but he still had patience.
“That's where the incinerator is, that's where I burn the bodies,” Sirius said. He grabbed something out of his pocket, a cigarette carton. He offered one to Remus, who shook his head, then took one for himself. There was a wave of silence.
“How long have you been like this?” Remus asked timidly. Sirius flicked his lighter a couple times until a yellow flame appeared.
“Charming? Handsome?” He smiled. “Much more than a pretty face?”
“Undead”
“Oh… yeah, like a couple years” Sirius shrugged “almost 70 next spring”
“70? You look like you're… like you're 19?” Remus said, sitting up straighter in his coffin.
“That's the beauty of it all, I don't age” Sirius smiled. “We really have to get some furniture, and some clothes. You look like a medium?”
“But how do you live for 70 years? You don't get to see the sun, you sleep in a coffin, you watch everyone around you die off… How do you stomach 70 years when I can barely take 19?” Remus found himself on the verge of tears.
“Why would I want to go outside during the day? The nights are more interesting,” Sirius asked. Remus shrugged a bit and squeezed his lips together.
“I don't like the night,” He muttered. It was quiet in the room again. The room smelled like smoke because of the wretched cigarette that Sirius lit. Remus looked back at him and found him looking at an empty corner.
“This room is so depressing” Sirius muttered “We still have time to get some furniture, what do you say? While we're at it we can get you some clothes”
Remus felt ignored. New clothes would be nice. He wanted to put the stolen figurine on a shelf. He wanted furniture in the room. Remus nodded. Sirius smiled and stood up. He pulled Remus to his feet and the two walked out the room, and out the door.

The hypnotized sales associates carried in wardrobes, shelves, bookshelves and a loveseat that Sirius caught Remus admiring. Remus stood in the doorway with Sirius as he watched the hypnotized men carry in furniture at the dead of night. When the furniture was carried in, the two went clothes shopping. Remus was fitted for suits, coats, shirts, pants, pajamas and anything his heart desired
“Remus, vampires don't wear that” Sirius said as Remus held up a beige patterned sweater.
“You said anything I wanted, and I want some sweaters,” Remus said. Sirius sighed and nodded.
“Fine, but don't look at me when the vampire club laughs at you on Saturday”
“There's a vampire club?” Remus looked appalled.
“No.”
By the end of the night the depressing room was well furnished and his wardrobe was filled with outfits and shoes. Sirius burned the old clothes in the incinerator and went back up to his room. It was nearly dawn. As soon as he stepped foot in his room he felt something was wrong. He walked to his coffin and opened the lid. He looked around him, on all of his shelfs. He looked at his Nick-Nacks, gifts from old lovers and old friends. His stag figurine from James, his mouse figurine from Peter, the green bowl for his rings, his double decker bus toy, the black dog-.
It was missing. The black dog figurine was missing. Sirius clenched his fists and grabbed a cigarette. He never smoked before bed. He sat in his coffin and grimaced.
“What did you do while I was gone?”
“Not much, I looked around the house more”
He had been in his room. Sirius closed his eyes and breathed. His anger subsided. No wonder Remus had been so nervous. He put out the cigarette and closed the lid to his coffin. He closed his eyes and his mind raced with what he would do when he saw Remus again.
Chapter Text
When Remus woke up, Sirius sat on the new loveseat, his hair slicked back and a frown on his face. Remus would've completely missed him if he didn't look behind him. Sirius didn't speak for a couple seconds.
“What are you doing here?” Remus asked. He sat all the way up and watched as Sirius’ eyes drifted to his. He looked angry. Remus felt sick.
“I give you a home, I give you a nice room with furniture, I make sure your time never runs out, I take care of everything you were worrying about in your old life… and you go in my room?”
“You told me that two rooms were off limits. I didn't go in those room's” Remus said. He felt a newfound courage. “I told you I was looking around the house”
Remus saw Sirius's fists clench. He exhaled, shaking. He closed his eyes and nodded slowly. Remus felt like an intruder. Sirius stood up, eyes still closed and held out his hand. Remus grabbed the dog from underneath his pillow and stood up. He strode over to Sirius and placed it in his hand. Sirius grabbed Remus’ wrist and pulled him closer. Remus panicked for a couple seconds before he stopped. Sirius’ eyes were still closed.
Remus watched as Sirius pocketed the dog, opened his eyes and stared right at him. Remus thought that he would kill him. Sirius loosened his grip on his wrist and looked down. Sirius tilted Remus’ wrist and looked back up at him. Remus tried to remain neutral, but in truth he was frightened. He was frightened of Sirius, a man he barely knew.
“I won't be so kind next time” He mumbled, his eyes like a gray storm. Remus hesitated and nodded. Sirius gently let go of Remus’ wrist. He stalked out the room and closed the door. Remus got dressed in a pair of black slacks and a sweater and wiped his eyes. He left the room and found that Sirius wasn't there. He looked through the entire downstairs, but he was nowhere to be found.
He slowly went upstairs and heard some music playing. He was starving. Remus stepped on the carpeted upstairs floor and sighed. He went to the art room and opened the door slowly. A record spun slowly as Sirius painted. It was Louis Armstrong. He felt like he was interrupting. Sirius did not look up. He simply continued painting. Maybe he just didn't see him. Maybe he didn't care.

Sirius felt when Remus stepped into the room. It was like the light of a thousand suns. He could barely hear his footsteps, but he felt him there. There was a great beauty in recognizing a companion even if your back is turned. Sirius had never felt this beauty, no even with James. He had sketched out Remus’ silhouette on the canvas. He just couldn't get the scars right. He was a beautiful subject, no doubt. Maybe his best one yet.
Sirius had felt embarrassed over his overreaction. An apology was never an option, his mother had taught him that.
“ … Sirius?” Remus’ voice came from the doorway. Sirius beckoned him closer. He heard Remus’ new shoes tapping on the floor, getting closer. Sirius looked up and found him standing, staring at the canvas.
“What do you need, love?” He smiled. Remus looked down at him, pulled from a trance.
“I'm hungry,” he said, sounding embarrassed. Sirius couldn't help but smile. Remus did not meet his eyes. The uncomfort of having to kill his food must have motivated him to look away. Sirius could let him leave by himself, or go with him. Remus couldn't levitate home, so the body would decompose there… unless he followed him.
“Well go eat, I think you can go without me” Sirius smiled, encouraged. Remus looked surprised.
“But.. But we only went one time.. And aren't you hungry?” Remus stuttered.
“I'll eat later love, you go ahead, you did so good the first time” Sirius smiled. Remus paused and nodded, stealing one last glance at the canvas. Remus exited the room. Sirius waited until he heard the front door close before he got his coat.

Remus would have ran. He could've gone to Berlin, or Florida, or Birmingham, anywhere. He walked the streets, feeling something other than freedom. He felt hungry. If he did run, there was nothing waiting for him. He pushed a woman into the street and bit her neck, draining her of her blood. When he was done he didn't know what to do. He couldn't die. He was immortal. He was everything he always wanted.
Despite the events from earlier in the night, Remus was still loved by Sirius. He felt pity for the man. All he wanted was a companion. He took a handkerchief out of his pocket, a gift from Sirius and wiped his mouth. He didn't stray too far from home. He grabbed the woman's purse and took a keychain off of it. It was a tourist keychain, he recognized it instantly. It was a small red telephone booth. He threw the rest of the keys next to the purse and wandered home slowly. He savored the time that he was outside. He liked going off on his own. When he got to Sirius’s house he saw black smoke coming from the backyard.
He opened the door and found Sirius licking blood off his fingers in the hall with a smile. He was looking in a mirror, playing with his hair. Remus walked towards Sirius and grabbed his hand. Sirius seemed confused as Remus opened Sirius's hand and mumbled something.
“Sorry, I didn't hear you,” Sirius said.
“Close your eyes,” Remus said a bit louder. Sirius hesitantly closed his eyes and Remus placed the keychain in his hand. He debated on ripping the keyring off but he didn't, because of a fear of breaking it. Sirius opened his eyes and grinned.
“This is very nice, Remus,” Sirius smiled, engulfing him into a hug. “And here I thought you would run”
Remus froze and returned the hug. He too had thought he would run.
“Where are you going to put it?” Remus asked quietly, his mouth close to Sirius's ear. Sirius softly pulled him away, revealing that he still had a smile painted on his pretty face.
“I'll show you”
Sirius softly grabbed Remus’ hand and the two walked upstairs. Remus hesitated when Sirius led him up to his room. Sirius looked back for only a second. It was enough to get Remus to enter the room. Sirius walked over to a shelf and placed the small telephone booth next to a toy double decker bus. Remus noticed two candles burning in a candelabra. He noticed incense burning nearby. He noticed everything.
Everything but Sirius's gaze, watching him as he looked around the room. When he turned he saw Sirius sitting in a black armchair. A concentrated look on his face. Remus didn't know whether he should stay in the room or leave. Finally Sirius grabbed a cigarette from his pocket and fished in the adjacent pocket for a lighter. Remus grabbed a candle and brought it to him. Sirius lit the cigarette on the flame and nodded. Remus put the candle back and put his hands in his pockets, looking around the room.
“Did it cross your mind to run?” Sirius asked. Remus sat down on the floor..
“Almost instantly” Remus said. He moved from the sitting position to laying down on the floor. He could feel Sirius's pretty eyes on him.
“What stopped you?” Sirius asked. His voice was quiet, it could've been mistaken for a lover's whisper. But they were not lovers. Not even a little bit. Not even at all.
“Because I have nothing to run to” He said. He turned his head, looking up at Sirius. “You're all I have”
Sirius smiled. Remus was glad to make him happy. He didn't want to admit it but he was scared of the burst of anger from this morning, and how quickly it was forgotten. He was scared of Sirius. He was more powerful than Remus, older, wiser. If he did manage to run away he knew where to find him.
He knew where to look.

Chapter Text
Remus noticed that Sirius was writing more often. It had been two weeks since he had been turned. Sirius had given Remus a small allowance that he used to buy records. He listened to music in his room while he read. Sirius would be there when he woke up. He would linger in the halls. He was there. Remus couldn't imagine Sirius as anything more than a vampire. He couldn't imagine Sirius in the daylight. He truly believed that the summer sun was never meant to touch men like him, he was for the moon.
Sirius and Remus painted side by side. Remus painted the night sky, and Sirius painted Remus. It was a happy life together. Eating and painting and killing and reading. It was happy. They both were happy. They were happy enough.
“I want to take you somewhere,” Sirius said, one night. He was writing as Remus lounged on the couch. He closed his eyes and sat up.
“Where?”
“The beach” Sirius said, looking at Remus. He stopped looking at the typewriter and pushed it away. “Just you and me, it'll be fun”
“What for?” Remus smiled. “Are you in love with me?”
“If I was in love with you I wouldn't tell you on the beach. I would tell you in our coffins, sitting side by side” Sirius said. Remus pictured it. He pictured Sirius's black coffin next to Remus’ new oak one. He imagined the two of them holding hands, as Sirius professed his undying love. It was a sweet thought.
“When are we leaving? “ Remus asked, standing up. Sirius thought for a second.
“We could leave now” He smiled. Remus nodded.
“Let me get my coat”

They two of them took the car. Remus drove as Sirius fiddled with the radio, a cigarette in his right hand. He had grown fond of his new companion. It was nice to have a new muse, and new inspiration, a new source of conversation. Remus had fully given into being a vampire. He had killed mercilessly and burned the bodies.
Sirius was aware of the guilt. Sirius was aware of the tears. Sirius was aware of the suffering. He was aware of the pain of killing. He heard the soft cries from Remus’ room. When he was a young vampire it dwelled on him too. He would often think about the lives he'd taken. Eventually the hunger got to him and he couldn't think about them anymore.
The beach trip was supposed to be a distraction. Remus had only left the house to get his records and to get his food. Remus got into the black Cadillac with a sense of wonder in his eyes. The car had been in the garage for a long time, a car was useless when you could levitate to a destination. Remus hadn't found out how to do that. Remus sat quietly as Bowie played softly through the radio. They went to Brutal beach. The ride was relatively quiet.
“What are you thinking about?” Sirius asked. Briefly looking over at Remus. There was a wave of silence.
“You” Remus said. His head was turned, looking out the window. Sirius could not read his mind, he wasn't a mere mortal anymore, he wasn't a vampire that he had run into in the street, he was his creation. Vampires can not read the minds of the ones they have created, so Sirius would never know what was going on in Remus’ head.
If Remus had tried, if he made a good enough attempt he could easily see what was going on in Sirius's head. He could read his thoughts as they happened. If Remus had tried he could levitate off the ground and fly away from him. If Remus had tried he could crawl up walls like a spider. Remus was not aware that he could read minds, or crawl up walls. Sirius had not made him aware of those abilities.
“All good things?” Sirius asked. Remus never answered. When they got to the beach Remus was quick to leave the car, an uncomfortable silence had lingered. Remus walked to the water, took off his shoes and sighed. Sirius watched him with a strange fascination. The full moon reflected off him, illuminating the sky. Sirius stripped his clothes off and ran into the water happily. Remus watched from the shore as Sirius swan out, past where his feet could touch and laughed as the waves crashed behind him. Remus followed suite, stripping is clothes off and swimming to Sirius who playfully splashed him.
In the back of Sirius’ mind he thought of his brother.
In the back of Sirius’ mind he wondered if he should call Regulus.

The cold water bit against Remus’ limbs as he swam in the ocean. He went underwater, wetting his head and laughing as Sirius shaked his head like a dog. It would be a perfect time to run.
“Wanna play Marco Polo?” Remus asked. A perfect chance for an escape.
“Sure” Sirius smiled. He closed his eyes and started counting. After five seconds he looked around, eyes closed. “Marco!”
“Polo” Remus was far away from him. He looked back at the shore. Sirius's clothes were sitting with the car keys.
“Marco!” Sirius shouted again.
“Polo!” Remus was swimming to the shore. Sirius laughed and swan in the same direction that he had started in. Remus was almost to the shore. Remus stepped onto the shore and started running. He grabbed the keys and looked back at the ocean. Sirius was still there.
“ Marco! Marco?” He shouted. Remus hesitated. Remus put down the keys and swam back into the dark ocean until he was next to Sirius.
“Polo,” Remus said. Sirius opened his eyes and jumped. He looked back at the shore. He must have noticed the keys in a different place. Maybe he noticed Remus’ weary expression. Who knows what he saw.
Whatever it was, it was enough to wrap his arms around Remus. It was enough to stay like that for five minutes. It was enough to pull away and look back on shore. It was enough to get out of the ocean and put their clothes back on. It was enough to walk on the shore, not a care in the world.
Remus kicked a couple rocks and looked back at Sirius, who's wet hair was tied up in a bun. Remus grabbed a gray rock and handed it to Sirius who inspected it.
“It looks like your eyes” Remus muttered. Sirius turned it into a game. He scoured the shore for something that resembled Remus but found very little. Remus found a black rock, shaped like a dog. Sirius eventually presented him with two rocks.
“If you turn it this way, it looks like a wolf,” Sirius pointed. “and this one looks like a moon, because you said you don't like the night, so I thought… I thought that you might like some semblance that the night isn't that bad, it can be pretty”
“Why a wolf?” Remus asked, entranced by the natural deformity of the rock. He was amazed that it did in fact look like a wolf.
“Wolves are devoted, loyal and caring,“ Sirius said. “Like you”
The tone in which he pointed out the fact that Remus was devoted and loyal made him seem sarcastic. He made it seem like a lie. Remus could've been reading into it, but God who knew. Remus nodded and smiled.
“I'll put it on one of the shelves you brought me” He smiled. Sirius's face softened as he smiled.

When they got home Sirius put the rocks on his shelf, next to the small telephone booth Remus had gotten for him. He couldn't stomach the thought that Remus tried to run again. Something made him turn back. Something made him go back to him.
Sirius was proud of Remus, wondering why he came back. He took a bath before he went to bed, washing the saltwater out of his hair. He went to bed with his hair wet, sticking to his face. He wondered if Remus had washed his hair. He wondered if he went to bed, his hair dry and brittle from the excessive salt. The saltwater had dripped onto the leather seats of the car.
At night Sirius dreamed of a wolf, running through the night, killing black dogs and whining as he looked up at god, wishing he was a good man.

Chapter Text
Winter came quickly. The brittle cold locked Remus and Sirius inside. Sirius spent more time with Remus. He could feel Remus getting into a new routine. He would wake up, kill, and go home to Sirius. Sirius would wait, having already eaten. Sirius recognized a lightness in Remus, an ease. He recognized that Remus was cranky when he woke up and refreshed when he had eaten. He recognized that he was a strong man and could make a strong vampire. He recognized that he was a good conversationalist when he got out of his shell.
The winter cold bit at their cheeks. It was the season for fireplaces and warm pajamas. It was a quiet winter. The fire burned all winter long. Christmas came and went, it was not celebrated. Remus attempted to celebrate the holiday. He told Sirius he wanted to go shopping for a Christmas tree, but Sirius shook his head.
“Don't bother, usually Christmas goes uncelebrated in the Black house” Sirius said, waving his hand. It was then that Remus learned that Sirius’s last name was Black.
“Why?” Remus asked, carefully. Sirius sat for a minute, pondering the idea.
“If you want something you could just ask me” Sirius shrugged.
“Can we just celebrate Christmas, exchange gifts, no tree or anything, just gifts” Remus pleaded “Then we can have dinner together, side by side”
The idea seemed grand… and suspicious.
As much as Sirius wanted to indulge in Remus he found it puzzling that he had insisted on the idea so much. Then again he did love gifts. Sirius stood up and stode to his bedroom. Remus loosely followed as Sirius got out some cash. He handed him a was of dollar bills and grabbed his hand.
“Give me something sweet, “ Sirius smiled. Remus nodded and turned around. “Why leave now? You have 2 nights”
“I was going to break into a couple stores and look around”
“Why would you break in? You can simply hypnotize them. Bend their minds to your will” Sirius shrugged.
“I don't know how” Remus said awkwardly.
Sirius had not taught him. If he taught him now he would be betraying himself. If he never taught him, Remus would eventually grow bored and find someone else to do it. Sirius stood and thought for a couple seconds. He closed his eyes and nodded.
“I… I can teach you” Sirius said. He grabbed his coat and beckoned for Remus to get ready. He remembered how he was taught. He waited by the door for Remus, the clock ticking quietly. When Remus finally came to the door, the two exited the house.
“Pick someone off the street” Sirius said, surveying the sidewalks. Remus looked around and eventually smiled. He pointed off into the other side of the street at a handsome young man. Sirius felt a flash of jealousy.
“Wait here,” Sirius said, crossing the street. He grabbed the man and smiled. “Come with me”
The man's irises turned a muted gray as the two walked back into the house. Sirius led the man to the kitchen, where he made him stand by the door. He released the man from his trance. The two vampires watched as the man started freaking out, confused how he got in the house.
“hypnosis is like a second language, you have to really want someone to do it for it to work” Sirius instructed. “try to get him to tell you his name”
“You haven't told me how, oh can you make him stop screaming!” Remus cried. Sirius put a hand up, silencing the man. “What exactly do I do?”
“look into his eyes, connect with him, make him calm down and tell you his name” Sirius said, sitting on a countertop. Sirius lifted the spell and the man started screaming again. He laughed and watched as Remus grabbed the man's shoulders and stared into his eyes, repeating over and over again, “tell me your name”
The man started screaming in French. Sirius watched as Remus tried asking in French. Eventually Remus slapped the man, hard and stared into his eyes, demanding that he told him his name.
“My name… my name is Barty Crouch.. Jr” The man said tiredly. Sirius's laughter halted. He sat up and watched as Remus stood up slowly.
“Stand up” Remus muttered. Barty stood up. Sirius crossed his arms as Remus smiled, touching the man's hair. Sirius got off the counter and flicked his wrist.
“Get out,” He said quietly. Remus looked back at him and Barty walked out the house. Remus watched him as he went. “I think you'll do fine with the shopping employees”
“It took me 30 minutes for him” Remus laughed. Sirius scrunched his nose up and scoffed. “You're jealous”
“Of a mortal who can't hold a candle to me? Or of a vampire who can barely hypnotize?”
“I didn't want to hypnotize, you brought it up” Remus said, pointing a finger at Sirius.
“You despise anything you're not inherently good at!” Sirius laughed. Remus shook his head and laughed. “Where are you going?”
“I don't have to spend the rest of my night with you, I can find other people to occupy my time” Remus smiled snarkily. “I would ask for an apology but I know it's not in your vocabulary”
Remus stormed out the front door, leaving Sirius alone. He breathed heavily and grabbed his coat. He went out the back door and lifted off the ground. He could see Remus storming away. He would come back. Of course he would come back. Until then he went to his study and drafted his first ever apology letter.

Remus Lupin didn't need Sirius. He would come home in the morning, but for now he was gone. He couldn't bring himself to run. The cold nipped at his cheeks. He walked to a bar and sighed. He wondered if vampires could drink alcohol. It wouldn't matter. Remus ordered beer after beer after beer. He left at 4:00 am and walked home. He stumbled drunkenly and groaned.
When he went inside there was no sign of Sirius. Good, he didn't want to see him. He stumbled to his coffin and kicked off his shoes. He changed into his pajamas and groaned. He heard the front door close and footsteps click against the floor. Remus got into his coffin and sat, bored. He wondered if he still had to sleep on his side.
Footsteps clicked to his room and there was a sharp knock on the door. Remus’ eyes fluttered close as his door opened. Sirius walked into the room and sat down.
“I'm sorry” He started. Remus barely listened as he talked. The room started spinning as he groaned and leaned over. He coughed, feeling vomit in the back of his throat. Sirius kicked a trash can in front of Remus. Remus coughed and vomited. In an instant Sirius was by his side, rubbing his back as he vomited. Remus started crying as he wiped his eyes. Sirius pushed the trash can away and helped Remus up. He picked up Remus and carried him as if he weighed nothing. He carried Remus to his coffin and got inside. He set Remus on top of him and closed the lid.
The darkness and closeness startled Remus. Eventually he was too tired to care. Eventually he realized that he was warm with Sirius. Eventually he grasped Sirius’s hand and smiled. He curled up and fell asleep. A terrifying possibility came to him.
Remus didn't want to escape Sirius.

Chapter Text
When Sirius woke up with Remus in his arms he almost went back to sleep. He could feel Remus slowly waking up. He didn't know what to do. It had been a spur of a moment decision. He had wanted to get Remus comforted, away from the vomit, so he took him to the coffin. He could feel the light scars on Remus’ arms.
“Sirius?” Remus asked, a lover's whisper. Sirius didn't know what to say.
“I'm sorry about yesterday. I have my mother's temper, I also inherited her jealousy. She was a raging monster. My father cowered at her voice. I don't want you to cower at my voice” Sirius said. He waited a second, letting Remus take in the apology.
“It's alright. I… I used some of your present money to get drunk” Remus said quietly.
“If you give me a kiss I'll forgive you” Sirius said, a smile on his face. Remus laughed and opened the lid of the coffin. Remus got out the coffin, the warmth leaving. Remus grabbed his hand and helped him up. Sirius staggered to his feet and sighed.
“I'm hungry, do you want to come with me?” Sirius asked. Remus nodded.
The two went to eat a man and a woman. They burned them in the incinerator and went Christmas shopping. Sirius went to the record store and got him two records. He looked acrothe street and saw Remus walk to another store. He wondered why he hadn't run away yet. He wanted to ask, but Remus would take it as a cruelty.
Sirius went home, wrapped the gifts, then regretted not getting a tree. He went out again and got a small pine tree. He set it up in the lounge and put his two presents under the tree. He wondered if he should get him something else. It didn't seem like enough. The phone rang and Sirius’ blood went cold.
He turned around and walked to the phone. Only two people called him. He picked up the telephone and pressed it to his ear, fearing the worst.
“Hello Sirius” Regulus Black's voice rang out from the other line. Sirius relaxed.
“Merry Christmas Reg, how are you?”
“Merry Christmas? You don't celebrate Christmas over there?”
“Yeah… A… a friend convinced me that it'll be fun..” Sirius said, looking back at the door.
“A friend? Is it James?” Regulus asked.
“No, no, he got married and.. You know. He left” Sirius frowned “But enough about me, what's going on with you, anything fun?”
“No, I got my own house which is fun I suppose. Nothing that fun though” Regulus said “I just wanted to see how you were doing, I feel like we never talk”
“I know. You know you're free to visit me anytime Reg, I'm always here” Sirius said.
“Yeah… I'm gonna go, it was nice talking to you”
“It was nice talking to you reg, bye” Sirius smiled. He hung up the phone and spotted Remus walking up the stairs with three bags. Remus walked into the door and smiled. Sirius felt a strange urge to hug him. Remus looked over at the tree and smiled.
“I thought we said no tree?” Remus smiled. Sirius shrugged awkwardly.
“Well we wouldn't have anywhere else to put the presents” Sirius shrugged. Remus smiled and places the boxes underneath the small tree.
It was nice. Of course it was nice. It was oddly reminiscent. Soon it would be nostalgic. But it was also the worst thing in the world. He had let Remus into his coffin. He had let him into his sanctum. His feelings were strange and usual. He didn't know what to do with them. He had never felt this strange complication in his life. He simply didn't know where to put it.

Remus cleaned his room and cringed, embarrassed of the drunken night before. When he climbed into his coffin he was reminded of the strange warmth of the other undead man.
The warmness was still unexplainable. They were both dead, they were both ice cold. Neither of them should've been warm. Remus had gotten Sirius a new lighter, a book, and a sketchbook. As the night turned into day Remus fled back into his coffin and closed his eyes.
When he woke up he felt strange. He got up and got dressed then left the room. For once Sirius was not waiting for him. Remus went without him. He got his breakfast, threw the carcass in the incinerator and went back inside. Still no sign of Sirius.
He went upstairs and knocked on the bedroom door. The door opened a few centimeters.
“Hey” Remus said awkwardly. The door opened all the way. Sirius looked tired. He looked like he hadn't slept.
“Hey,” Sirius said, smoothing his hair back. “Do you need something?”
“No, I just haven't seen you..” Sirius turned around and walked to his coffin, which had a typewriter and about 90 pages next to it.
“Did you miss my pretty face?” Sirius smiled. Remus shook his head.
“Writing something?” He walked over and sat next to the coffin. He grabbed a page and looked at it. It seemed to be a biography.
“An autobiography of sorts” Sirius plucked the page out of Remus’ hand. “Sorry sweetness, but I can't allow you to read it yet. No sneak peaks” Sirius smiled, though it looked like he was baring his teeth. Remus nodded and looked around the room.
“The mortals will see it as fiction” He said, standing up.
“Well art is subjective” Sirius followed him “leaving so soon? I thought you missed me”
“I… I wanted to go out and get some lunch, did you want me to bring you back something?”
“I'll go out later” Sirius waved him off. Remus nodded and left the room.
Despite being undead, the freezing air killed him. The food was harder to get since everyone was bundled in layers, though it was easier with hypnosis. The cold air nipped at his nose and hurt his eyes. After his meal he hauled the body back home, remaining undetected by using back roads. Everything would be easier if he had a car.
So he bought one.
It was a spur of the moment purchase, but he bought a cherry red mustang. He drove it home and parked it in front of the house. Sirius came out slowly, dumbfounded. He staggered down the stairs, his mouth gaping open. He was still in his pajamas.
Remus got out the car and smiled.
“Do you like it? She's gorgeous isn't she?” He walked up the stairs to Sirius, who did not look impressed. He looked… mad?
“Why do you need a car?” Sirius asked, his fists clenching.
“Because it's easier than walking three blocks and hauling bodies to the incinerator, why are you upset?”
“Because you don't need a car” Sirius turned around and went into the house. Remus locked the car and followed after him.
“You don't know what I need, I need this car Sirius, you're being unreasonable” Remus called after him.
“Why do you need a car? It's not that far away, just kill people that are close to the house” Sirius shouted.
“You're acting like you spent a fortune on it, how come you get a car, you get anything you want but the second I get something that'll help me, you're upset!”
“You don't need a fucking car” Sirius shouted
“No, I actually do! Everything is hard for me, Sirius. You don't understand. You won't teach me how to fly, you won't teach me how to do anything you can do, and it's making everything impossible. I don't want to haul bodies through France, praying I don't get caught. I just want to be able to do this, to get food easier “ Remus yelled “Why does everything have to be hard for me?!”
Remus stomped to his room and slammed the door. He threw the wretched car keys at the wall and kicked his coffin out of frustration. It wasn't fair. Nothing was fair. Remus went to his record player and remembered that Christmas was tomorrow. He scoffed and wondered if they would even open gifts at all.
Chapter Text
The next morning Remus and Sirius begrudgingly made their way to the tree. Sirius plucked a gift from under the tree and opened it. Remus noticed two more gifts under the tree. Remus grabbed one and opened it. It was a sweater. It was just his size. He tried to hide his appreciation. When he looked at Sirius he could see him staring at his lighter, biting down the corners of his mouth and pursing his lips. Sirius looked back at him and nodded.
Remus grabbed his next gift. A square shaped gift. When he opened it, he found that it had been two records. Remus hides his happiness. He had gotten the two he really wanted. He had one last gift. He grabbed it and opened it slowly. It was a book.
“Padfoot” By James Potter.
Remus had never heard of the book or the author. He looked through the book and found annotations. He looked back at Sirius who stared at the floor. Remus would not apologize, he did nothing wrong. Remus put the book down and hugged Sirius, a thank you for the gifts.
“Thank you” He mumbled. Sirius mumbled something and hugged him back. In 20 years Remus would still wonder what he said before he hugged him back. In 20 years he would ask Sirius what he had said, and Sirius wouldn't remember.
“I'll teach you how to fly tomorrow, on one condition” Sirius said. “You let me drive your car occasionally”
Remus fought back a smile.
“I suppose I could do that, but when you teach me, you can't laugh” He said. Sirius nodded. Remus pulled away from the hug, slowly, Sirius stayed, holding him tightly

“I think you're not doing it right”
“I'm focusing!” Remus cried out. He closed his eyes as Sirius levitated above him, fighting off fits of laughter. Every so often Remus would lift one inch off the ground, then promptly fall.
“Stand on the tips of your toes, then try” Sirius advised. Remus shifted to the tips of his toes and closed his eyes again. Sirius smiled as Remus lifted off the ground again. He opened his eyes and looked terrified. Sirius laughed and stuck out his hand
Remus took his hand and smiled. The two floated in the kitchen. Sirius would regret teaching him later, but for now it was fine. For now it was fun. Sirius had decided that he would kill Remus if he ran, or at least lock him in the home. He decided that he would not be humiliated with another friend leaving. He had written that in his biography.
The biography was a desperate attempt to bring back the men and women who had left him in the past. Remus would not understand what it was for until it was published. He couldn't help but feel a longing as Remus flies throughout the house. He longed for them to be closer. He longed for something more.
The night in the coffin completely destroyed him senses. He couldn't stop picture Remus’ sleeping face, peacefully unaware. He couldn't stop longing for the warmth. He couldn't stop wondering if it should be like that every night.
For dinner Remus and Sirius drained a man in a suit. A beautiful piece on the table. They had wine to go with the man, white wine. Remus and Sirius laughed on the couch, sharing stories and telling jokes. They lost track of time. Soon they would have to sleep. They went off on their separate ways awkwardly. Sirius wondered if he should ask.
“Wait” He called. Remus turned around.
“Yes?” Remus asked, puzzled.
“I think… I think your room is too cold” Sirius said, instantly hating himself.
“Is that so?” Remus raised an eyebrow “And what should we do about that?”
Sirius was quiet for a minute. The two of them knew the answer.
“Maybe you should sleep in my room, it's much warmer in there” Sirius said with a sly smile. Remus nodded and the two men walked to Sirius's room.
In the coffin they stayed together. Sirius held Remus, his hands tangled in his hair. When they woke up, they didn't feel uncomfortable, or awkward. The two acted as if it was normal.
4 days later Remus Lupins coffin was moved into Sirius Blacks room.
They woke up together, separate coffins but in the same space. They acted as if it was a normal thing for friends to do. They read books, listened to music and watched television. Sirius's room became Sirius and Remus’ room. Remus’ clothes were moved into Sirius's closet, his records were compiled with Sirius's. It was a good time.
Sirius was losing the crushing feeling that Remus was leaving. Eventually they barely noticed that years passed. Despite 8 years going by like weeks, the two stayed “friends”. They stayed “Roommates”. They were anything but lovers. Remus still held Sirius’s hand. The two still hugged and danced in the kitchen. They did everything but kiss. They could not kiss.
If they kissed then they were lovers.
“Did you know that Janis Joplin was in Glee Club?” Remus asked one night.
“No, what's that?”
“It's like a theater club” Remus said absentmindedly. Sirius looked over at him.
“What's wrong, you seem tense?” He said, reaching over, his hand extended. Remus grabbed it and sighed, shaking his head.
“I want a vacation, “ He said, looking back at Sirius. “The beach trip was fun but… I don't know”
“You know that it'll be hard to transport our coffins.. I can give us a vacation, but it'll be hard,” Sirius sighed.
“I'm not saying it has to be out of state or anything, I just feel like… like we're cooped up in this fucking house all day, and I just.. I don't know”
“We could go to Plage Du Grand Vala. It's a nice little beach” Remus said. Sirius looked back at him. He couldn't say no. He nodded.
“You can drive us” He smiled.
A couple weeks before he had gotten a call from Regulus. It was the usual call from Regulus, asking how Sirius was. Regulus did not know about Remus. He knew what Regulus would say if he saw the two coffins, side by side, and the clothes in the closet and the paintings for Remus. He knew how it looked. So he didn't say anything to his brother. He simply didn't tell him.
A couple weeks before he had gotten a call from Regulus. Regulus had asked to visit. Regulus did not know about Remus. Sirius said yes.
Regulus would bring their mother.
Regulus did not know about Remus.
Chapter Text
Remus knew Sirius like the back of his hand. He knew everything about him. He knew when he was happy, he knew when he was upset, and most of all, he knew when he was stressed.
A source of tension had wormed its way into their home. All it took was one phone call. Remus had noticed the phone calls. It was always loving and casual. He called the person on the other end “Reg”
Remus didn't know who “Reg” was, nor did he really care. “Reg” was Sirius's business. As long as it didn't stand in the way of their friendship. The friendship was intimate and well crafted. It had taken 8 years. The phone call couldn't break that up, right?
Remus had honestly thought that. He really, really believed that. He believed it until he saw Sirius hauling Remus’ coffin to the attic. Remus watched dumbfounded.
“What are you doing?” He asked, slowly stepping towards Sirius. His head turned.
“I just.. I thought that maybe you should get a new coffin” Sirius fumbled. “Maybe one that'll fit both of us”
“Alright.. But why are you moving it to the attic” Remus asked.
“Just.. It's the best place for storage” Sirius shrugged. Remus scoffed.
“This doesn't have anything to do with a certain phone call that happened two or three days ago, right?” Sirius stopped. He put down the coffin and sighed. His back was turned. Their bond was cracking.
Sirius turned around and nodded. Remus watched as Sirius stepped close to him. He squeezed his lips together.
“I wasn't going to tell you.. My familys in town and they… they're gonna think something that's not true”
“They're going to think you're in love with me,” Remus smiled. Sirius's face shifted to anger. “Oh what an awful thing to be accused of, sweetheart.”
“You're not being fair,” Sirius pointed out.
“If you want I can stay in the attic while they're there, I can read my books and pretend I'm not here” Remus smiled. Sirius's shoulders dropped. He looked defeated. He shook his head and sighed.
“I can't tell if you're being serious or not, but that would help”
“I'm dead serious, but I want something in return,” Remus smiled.
“Alright, what is it?” Sirius grabbed the coffin and lifted it up again. Remus thought of every possibility. He thought of everything that he could ask him. He imagined the different scenarios. He imagined each one in meticulous detail. What he really wanted was to stay with Sirius. He didn't want to go to the attic. Sirius looked back at him.
Remus knew what he wanted. He wanted Sirius all to himself.
He wanted everyone to leave them alone as they ran away forever, sharing a coffin, holding hands.
But he couldn't just tear Sirius away from his family. He wouldn't let it come to that. Not yet at least.
Sirius pushed the remainder of the coffin into the attic and walked down the stairs. He wiped his brow and stood in front of Remus. His gray eyes took every word his was about to say and rendered it useless.
“What is it?” He asked again. Remus looked at the floor and shrugged.
“I'll think of it later “ He mumbled “When are they coming?”
“Tomorrow… you can sleep with me in my coffin” Sirius shrugged.
Four hours later Sirius and Remus were in the same coffin. Sirius wrapped his arms around Remus and yawned, closing the lid. Remus mumbled if this was what normal people did. He brought himself back to that night. Getting turned and waking up frantically in a coffin.
Would he change it if he could? He was overcome with happiness. He could not miss the sun because Sirius was his sun. He didn't know what the hell he wanted.
“I've never had a friendship where I slept in the same bed as my friend” Remus mumbled. Sirius groaned and shifted a bit.
“What are you going on about, love?” Sirius mumbled.
“Are we friends, or are we lover's?” Remus said. Sirius looked down at him.
“Do you want to be lover's? Was that why you hesitated earlier?” Sirius asked, brushing a tuft of hair out of Remus’ face.
“I.. I don't know.. I just think.. This isn't what friends do, like are you confusing me on purpose? Are you in love with me?” Remus asked
“I'm in love with everyone,” Sirius smiled. What did that mean?
“What does that even mean? It's a yes or no question” Remus said, sitting up. Sirius started laughing. Remus hit Sirius's chest and urged him to stop laughing.
“It's not funny!” Remus cried. Sirius stopped laughing gradually and sighed.
“We have an intimate friendship. I thought you didn't mind it, I'm not in love with you” Sirius said. “I can get your coffin down for the night-”
“No, that's not… I like what we have, I just wanted to know because it's been on my mind” Remus said, closing his eyes, settling into a good night's sleep.
He woke up the next morning and went to the attic, wondering if he should have a petty attempt of sabotage. Maybe he could stroll downstairs. He left from the attic window to get his breakfast, then flew back into the attic. He spent all day reading, he didn't even hear Sirius.

Seeing his mother was a humiliating event. She dressed in all black as most vampires did. His brother followed her cautiously. His father had stayed home, of course he had. His father was only a footnote in his family's glory. His mother threw her coat aside and hugged her son.
“I can't believe you ran away here” She smiled. She looked around the house.
“I can't believe you ran away,” Regulus said, looking around the house. Sirius wanted to scoff. He wanted to say something backhanded, “Thank God I did” or maybe “You can't?”
But he never did. At least not in front of his mother. He waited for someone to say something. His mother walked over to the lounge and Regulus hesitantly followed him. Sirius followed after them and noticed a book that Remus had left out.
“You know, I thought you had a companion. I didn't think you were living here alone” Regulus said, slowly looking around at the lounge.
“Why would you think that?” Sirius's blood ran cold.
“I thought.. I thought I heard someone on the phone” He shrugged. His mother's eyes drifted to him.
“Is that why you've brought your mother? After all, what will you do if something other than a pure blood vampire jumps out and offers to shake your righteous hand?” Sirius smiled.
“Our mother.” Regulus insisted.
“I became an orphan when I left home. I've saved up my money, I've learned how to be an exceptional vampire all by myself, and I've bought everything in this household. I am living proof that The Most Ancient and Noble House of Black is only needed when you want to go to a dinner party, or a ball, or a gathering” Sirius laughed “I survived by myself. I didn't need either of you. And you don't need me”
There was silence. You could've heard a pin drop. Walburga Black sat quietly, her arms crossed, most likely waiting for her son to speak for her.
“Is it a crime for a mother to visit her son?” She smiled. Sirius stared at her and took a step towards her.
“You stopped being my mother the moment I stepped out of that hell house” Sirius said. “You have Regulus as a heir, you don't need me”
“It was not a hell house “ Walburga scoffed “I tried over and over again to raise you-”
“You tortured me,” Sirius said. “You can change my room, you can change your motive, you can't change the past”
Regulus had gone quiet. He was more focused on the beige sweater on the armchair. He became fixated on it. Sirius noticed and felt a chill go down his spine. Regulus looked back at him. He pointed to it and raised an eyebrow.
“Whose sweater is that?” He asked. He was not taunting his brother. He was merely curious. His mother smiled, got up and grabbed it. She examined it and looked at the tag.
“It's not your size,” She said. “Whose is it?”

Sirius had been scared many times in his life. This was different. What could he say? What would she do? It was a strange dilemma. Remus was not his lover, so what the hell was he afraid of? She held up the sweater as if it was trash. She smiled like a wolf. Sirius snatched the article of clothing and threw it towards the couch.
“Get out of my house” Sirius mumbled. Walburga raised an eyebrow and pursed her lips.
“You're right Sirius, you aren't my son” She smiled “I know that sweater isn't James Potter's or Peter Pettigrews, so you have a new half blood situationship. I certainly hope that you honestly think that you can hide it”
“I wouldn't call it a situationship” Sirius smiled, baring his teeth “We know exactly what we are. We sleep in the same coffin almost every night”
Walburga looked disgusted.
“So there is someone? I knew it, I knew it as soon as you sounded hesitant over the phone, I think you've hidden all their things, I bet if I really look I'll find them” Walburga grinned.
“You won't get the chance to do that” Sirius shrugged. He strode to the door and opened it. Walburga stared at the shell of her son. He stared at her. She grabbed her coat and left the house.
“Regulus! Let's go!” She called out. Regulus looked hesitant. Sirius hugged him before he went. He told him that if he ever needed anything he should call him. His brother left. He was gone again. Sirius grabbed the sweater and stomped to the attic. He walked up to the attic and spotted Remus, reading. He sat up straighter and looked confused.
“What's wrong?” He asked. It was already too late, Sirius Black's lips pressed against Remus Lupin's lips.

Remus wrapped his arms around Sirius as their lips mashed together. They were kissing. He groaned and closed his eyes. The book was discarded on the couch. It was delicate and wrong. Despite it being wrong, it continued. Sirius eventually pulled away, breathless. Remus pressed his forehead against Sirius's. The two men panted, out of breath. Remus opened his eyes to see. He looked beautiful. Remus pushed a strand of his hair back and smiled.
“I know what I want my favor to be” Remus mumbled. Sirius opened his eyes.
“And what's that?” He smiled, his hand was still wrapped around Sirius.
“I want a double wide coffin so we can sleep side by side” He said. Sirius smiled and nodded.
The next day a double wide coffin was brought. Sirius's old coffin was left in the attic along with Remus’. As promised, every night they would climb in the coffin together and hold each other until they both fell asleep. Sirius told him about the visit, about the sweater, about his mother.
“Why'd you kiss me?” Remus asked. Sirius went quiet and looked away.
“Why, you didn't like it? I've been told I'm an exceptional kisser”
“I did like it, I loved it… But what are we now?” Remus asked.
“We're vampires,” Sirius shrugged. Remus felt a wave of annoyance.
“I should get you tap shoes” Remus smiled, Sirius looked confused. “You know, because you're always dancing around the truth”
“Great, this again” Sirius scoffed, getting up from the couch. Remus got up and followed.
“We sleep in the same bed every night, you're practically naked-”
“Sleeping without a shirt isn't practically naked, stop it-” Sirius scoffed.
“You kiss me, we hold hands, I wear your fucking clothes and we're just best friends! Where does the line get drawn? We're going on nine years Sirius!-”
“I didn't even say we were best friends! I said we were vampire's! Alright? We wouldn't be a good couple anyways if we fight all the time!” He scoffed. He walked into the room and shook his head. He paused and put his hands over his face. Remus hugged him from behind and sighed.
“I don't want to fight you all the time” He mumbled. He felt Sirius grab his hand and hold it. Sirius leaned his head onto Remus’ shoulder, exposing his neck. Remus had the sudden urge to kiss it.
“I don't want to fight you either, I just.. I don't know” Sirius said. He looked at Remus. “You're right, we're more than friends, I just didn't want to label it”
“We can wait as long as you want to label it, I'm not going anywhere” Remus mumbled. Sirius smiled. It was like the shine from a thousand suns.
The house was quiet for two more years. 10 years together in that house. It was more open now. They slept in each other's arms. They went hunting for food together. They kissed by the incinerator. Just like best friends do.

Trouble started on the 5th of October. They woke up as they usually did. Sirius placed a kiss on Remus’ lips as he smiled. Remus mumbled his good morning and kissed Sirius back. They got out the coffin and got dressed. The two walked downstairs to leave and go get breakfast. Halfway down the stairs there was a knock at the door. Sirius cast a strange look at Remus and the two sped up. Remus opened the door and frowned. A woman with red hair stood there. Sirius's heart dropped.
“Lily Evan's” He said, he almost sounded happy to see her. The woman James had left him for.
“Hello Sirius, I'm sorry to bother you” She sounded panicked. Remus looked back at Sirius slowly, his face angry. Sometimes Remus reminded him of an angry child. The jealousy that Remus had was astronomical.
“Lily, this is Remus, my companion. Remus you know James Potter…my past companion, this is the woman he left me for” Sirius smiled. Lily looked ashamed. Remus’ face lit up.
“Lily Evans! I hear you're brilliant, I've read James's book and the way he describes you is delightful, I can't believe I'm actually meeting you” Remus smiled, shaking her hand. Sirius's smile dropped. He stared at Remus, remembering James’ book. He had given him that book 10 years ago. He didn't think Remus would actually read it.
“I wasn't aware that you read the copy I gifted you” Sirius said awkwardly.
“Why wouldn't I?” Remus asked. Sirius had no answer at all. Remus and Lily chattered happily. In a way Sirius was happy that Remus made a friend, in another way he had a dark, jealous feeling that Remus would be stolen away too.
“As much as I love this chatter Lily, I have to ask why you're at my house so early in the night” Sirius smiled. “Sorry, why are you at our house so early in the night?” He saw Remus shoot a smile his way.
“Right, James was going to ask you, but he thought that you were still upset with him,” Lily said. “You see, we're going to get married soon”
“You sure waited a while” Sirius scoffed.
“Well, when you know, you know” Lily shrugged. “Anyways, it's forbidden for a human to marry a vampire, and as you stated we waited a really long time”
“And James does not possess the power to turn you into a vampire, so you wish for me to do it?” Sirius said. “Is that what you want?”
“Yes actually, so you'll do it?” Lily asked hopefully. Sirius scoffed.
“I'll do it when James comes over and asks himself, instead of sending you alone” Sirius smiled. Lily's face dropped. Remus stepped towards Sirius. “Now if you don't mind me and my companion are going to get our breakfast. James knows where to find me”
Sirius stepped out of the house, ignoring Remus’ and Lily's shocked expressions. He had a feeling he would be hunting alone for a while.

Aww they kissed... But also everything else happened
Chapter Text
“What the hell Sirius?” Remus asked when Sirius returned. Sirius shrugged and smiled.
“Can you blame me, my love?” He attempted to wrap his arms around Remus but he pulled away. Sirius laughed and Remus frowned.
“It's not right, why would you do that Sirius? Just turn the girl and James can be out of our lives” Remus pleaded.
“Maybe I don't want him out of my life” Sirius whispered. Remus stared at him, shocked.
“Maybe I don't want you in my bed tonight,” Remus said, storming upstairs. Sirius followed him quickly.
“Mon Cher, you don't even know them,” Sirius said. Remus could feel him getting agitated. Remus grabbed his book and walked downstairs. He ignored Sirius for the rest of the day. When nighttime came, he backed away from Sirius, getting as far as he could on the other side of the coffin, turning his back to him.
“You're being ridiculous” Sirius said, Remus could feel his agitation.
For the next three days Remus ignored Sirius. He dodged him when he could. Sirius talked, attempting to get Remus to talk back.
“Remus, you don't understand anything”
“Talk to me, we can fix this”
“Remus, please, please, please”
Despite Sirius's sweet words, and his empty threats, Remus didn't speak. All he could hear was that Sirius didn't want James to leave his life. Remus would not fight for Sirius’s affection. One day the phone rang. Sirius had left so Remus picked it up.
“Black Residence “ He said, looking out the window.
“Hey, is Sirius Black there?” A man's voice sounded on the other end. Remus’ heart stopped.
“I'm guessing you're James Potter, “ Remus said, almost bitterly.
“And I'll guess that you're Remus, Lily told me about you. Thanks for being kind to her”
“Not a problem, I'm sure you want to discuss the matter of Sirius turning her?”
“Yeah.. It's caused some.. Problems in our house” James said awkwardly. Remus could smell the incinerator smoke. Sirius was home.
“It's caused problems in ours too, I can go get him” Remus said.
“That would be lovely” James answered. Remus put the phone down on the table and walked to the back door. Sirius was there, and the incinerator was running. Sirius raised and eyebrow.
“James Potter called, he's on the phone right now” Remus crossed his arms. Sirius nodded. The two made their way inside. Remus pretended to walk up the stairs to the room while Sirius answered the phone. Remus crept around the corner and waited.
“Hello James, to what do I owe the pleasure…. Well why don't you come here?... You're ridiculous, either you come here with Lily, or you can watch her grow old while you stay the same….I have a companion and we're very happy “ Sirius said in the other room “Fine, keep her in that house, you can find someone else, and when you can't you know where to find me”
Sirius put down the phone and Remus skittered up the stairs. He levitated to the bedroom, sat down on the couch and grabbed a book, opening it to a random page. Four minutes later Sirius came in and sighed. He sat next to Remus and rested his head on his shoulder.
“I'm sorry” Sirius said “I don't want you to think that I don't love you. You're literally the air I breathe. But it's just not fair”
“How so?” Remus asked, lowering the book.
“Imagine this, you and I broke up because I found someone who barely holds a candle to you-”
“Lily's great” Remus frowned.
“I cannot understand how you formulate such opinions on her when you two have met a total number of one time but alright. Let's say I am in love with this person and I want them to be turned. I don't know if I can do it on my own, so I send this person alone to your house while you're with someone who you love deeply, making it seem as if you are an awful person and I'm very scared to see you because of how bad you are” Sirius sighed. “Do you understand why I'm upset?”
“I… didn't see it in that perspective. I just thought you were being cruel” Remus mumbled.
“I'm not cruel, not to you, I wasn't to James, and I could be crueler to Lily” Sirius said. “Are we okay? We've barely fought in the last two years and now…”
“We're fine, love” Remus smiled, embracing Sirius.
.

…
….
…..
……
…….
Sirius could feel Remus lying. The two were not fine. Every so often between the next couple weeks, Remus would leave and not come back for hours. Sirius would sit close to the door and witness as Remus strolled in, not a care in the world. Sirius would watch, shooting daggers. The action would always go unspoken.
Sirius did not fashion Remus as unfaithful. He knew he wasn't cheating on him or anything, he just thought the ordeal was odd. They slept side by side in the coffin, as they did before Lily Evans showed up at their doorstep.
One day something must have snapped. Remus left wordlessly as he always did and Sirius made the decision to follow him. He followed him slowly, so as not to raise an alarm. He levitated just above him, several feet in the air. Finally Remus got to a tea shop. Sirius floated down and watched as Remus Lupin made his way to a smiling Lily Evans.
Anger courses through him. Not just anger.. But relief. Remus looked towards the window and frowned, seeing Sirius. Sirius turned around and left. He was not stopped, he simply made his way to James Potter's home, uninterrupted.
When James answered Sirius barely recognized him. He realized that he had forgotten what James looked like. The thought of it sickened him. James let him in wordlessly. His house was beautiful, which pissed Sirius off even more.
“Lily isn't here” James said “but I doubt that's why you're here”
“I know she's not here, she's with Remus” Sirius took off his coat. “They're having tea”
When he looked back at James he looked overtly shocked.
“I wasn't aware that the two of them were.. Hanging out” James said.
“I found out today, I just came to talk,” Sirius said. James nodded stiffly and gestured loosely to the living room. Sirius walked into the living room and sat down.
“So… What is it?” James asked.
“This is ruining my relationship with Remus” Sirius said “Why won't you face me? Things didn't end that badly”
“But they still ended,“ James said “Do you know how strange it feels to have to ask your friend to turm your girlfriend into a vampire because you can't?”
“You can, you're just not choosing to. I don't understand how you could humiliate yourself like this” Sirius laughed. “Your ego is the size of the house, I miss the real James Potter”
James paled. For a second Sirius could've sworn that the man sitting in front of him was not James Potter, it was a completely different man. Sirius squinted for a second and wondered if he had actually forgotten what he looked like. Was this the reason that he didn't go to his house with Lily? Because he was not James Potter. Sirius leaned forward.
James leaned back. Sirius was sure it wasn't him. There are just too many differences. A person's entire facial structure didn't just change. But how would this imposter take the form of James?
“You are not James Potter,” Sirius pointed out.
The stranger smiled. Their face warped into a face that was advertently familiar. A face he recognized from 10 years ago.
Barty Crouch Jr.

Chapter Text
“I know you,” Sirius said, pointing to Barty.
“Your companion hypnotized me 10 years ago” Barty frowned. “You ruined my life”
“I sincerely doubt that I ruined your life badly enough for you to somehow have nearly perfect shape shifting so you could turn into my friend I barely talked to, but go ahead, what did I do?”
“You made me late! If I hadn't been hypnotized I would've never been turned into a vampire by James Potter!” Barty shouted “I came to him and told him what he had done, and he turned me away! He said that he hadn't meant to! He said he meant to kill me!”
Barty reminded Sirius of a cracked teacup, already broken, easy to shatter. Sirius looked down at the floor, then back up. All of this must have been true. But where was James? Sirius paused and nodded sympathetically. The room was quiet.
“And why try and get me to turn Lily?” Sirius asked, desperately wanting some Advil for his forming headache.
“I… That was her idea, she just started talking to me about it and I just agreed with whatever she said” Barty hesitated. “I've found that simply agreeing was easier. It's actually how I wasn't found out for so long”
“And how long have you been doing this?”
“About two months. It's been hard but.. I've managed” Barty shrugged.
If Barty had been there for two months, that means that James was somewhere for two months, alone, wondering what a man wearing his face was doing to his girlfriend.
“And where are you keeping James?” Sirius asked, standing up. Barty stood up quickly.
“I'd rather die than tell you!” He shouted. He's more dramatic than me, Sirius thought. Sirius realized he was also short tempered. He had seen vampires turn from the most calm, kind people on the planet into anger, bloodthirsty beasts.
“Then die,” Sirius shrugged. “If I'm being quite frank, this is the shittiest revenge plot that I've ever heard of. You're upset at me for being late and you don't even know what you want as compensation. I doubt you've actually thought this through. Do you want to know my hypothesis?”
Barty stood, his mouth open. He reminded Sirius of a fish out of water, gasping for air. Sirius held a gloved hand up and started walking.
“I'll just tell you. I think your idea was to ruin James’ reputation, but you just couldn't figure out how to do that, so you gave up and now you're stuck in this position. I bet you hid him somewhere very stupid too” Sirius walked towards the basement. Barty lunged at Sirius pitifully. Sirius moved out the way and opened the basement door as he fell onto the ground. Sirius walked down the basement steps and closed the door after him, wedging a pack of cigarettes between it so it would be harder to open.
Sirius was ashamed of himself for being upset with James. He should've been there for his friend.
Sitting in the middle of the basement was James Potter, tied to a chair. He looked annoyed. His face lit up when he saw Sirius. Sirius noticed a rag in his mouth. He could hear Barty opening the door.
“No! Wait!” He could hear him thundering down the stairs as he took the rag out of James's mouth. James coughed and stared daggers at Barty.
“What the hell! Get me out! Get out of my house! Where's Lily?!” James shrieked.
“Lily's fine, you owe me a pack of cigarettes” Sirius smiled.
Sirius took out a pocket knife and cut James loose. James sprung up and stretched. He looked back at Sirius and smiled, before engulfing him into a hug. The two men hugged as Barty stood frozen.
They pulled away and smiled. Then they turned to Barty.
The question was not what they wanted to do, but what they could do. It was illegal for a vampire to kill another vampire. Well not illegal just frowned upon and punishable by imprisonment.
So as the two men stared at Barty Crouch Jr. they couldn't decide what to do. James watched him, an idiotic shell of a man. Sirius looked at James, and James looked at Sirius, his old friend. The two of them stepped forward.

Remus sat at home in the lounge, biting his fingernails and worrying. Sirius had not yet come home. Lily sat across from him, marveling at the bookshelves. The door opened and Remus heard laughter. Remus shot up and saw Sirius Black walking with a man who was, without a doubt, Thee James Potter. Remus stared at the two and noticed Lily was also starring.
The two men looked over and waved. Remus noticed some blood on Sirius's face. A faint splatter. Remus probably wouldn't have noticed it if he wasn't looking so closely. Lily ran to James and engulfed him in a hug. Remus didn't move. Neither did Sirius.
He felt many emotions in that moment, upset, annoyed, relieved. He wondered what had happened when Sirius left the tea shop. Had he found James himself and became friends with him again? It was a curious ordeal. Lily pulled away and gave James a strange look.
“Did you do something with your hair?” She asked.
“No, I've been in the basement for about two months, a man named Barty Crouch Jr. took my place. Sirius found me and let me go” James smiled. Remus looked back at Sirius, who was nodding.
“What?” Lily's voice was louder. James began to explain what had happened. He talked about how Sirius came to the basement and freed James. During the entire story, Remus kept his eyes on Sirius. He didn't know if he wanted to kill him or kiss him.
Sirius invited the two to stay for a drink, but they declined. James promised he'd call so they could all get together. James and Lily left, and finally the house was quiet. Sirius took a step towards Remus who's expression he could not read. Sirius took Remus’ hand in his and pulled him close.
The two held each other for a while, 10 minutes maybe. Sirius kissed Remus’ head, then his lips. Remus realized that he was not mad. He was not jealous. He was happy. Remus kissed him back and pushed him against the wall.
The two kissed hungrily. They kissed the way up the stairs, they kissed in the coffin and they kissed before they fell asleep. Remus couldn't describe the joy. He missed his lover. He missed the warmth he provided, he missed his heartbeat, he missed his long hair and pretty face.
He brushed the small blood spatter he noticed earlier and pretended that it was just food. He pretended that he didn't know that his lover had killed another vampire. James had skipped that part of the story, but Remus could see it.
He could see Sirius lunging towards him. He could see Sirius attacking him. He could see Sirius killing him. It was a terrifying sight.
When Remus woke up he found that he was tangled in Sirius’ arms. Sirius was still asleep, his eyes were shut and Remus could've sworn he had eyeliner on. Eventually Sirius opened his eyes and smiled. He kissed Remus firmly on the cheek and mumbled a good morning.
Remus smiled and sat up. The two climbed out the coffin and got dressed for the day. They were labelless lovers.
For now.

Chapter Text
Things were very romantic. New years had just hit and the two men had been together for 11 years. Remus and Sirius were hunting when it was pointed out.
“We've lived together for 11 years” Remus smiled. Sirius pulled away from the man he was draining.
“Is that so? Best 11 years of my life” He smiled. Remus grinned and kissed his cheek. Sirius grabbed the dead men and started levitating. Remus followed him as the two floated in the air.
“I wanted to ask you something, and I just want you to think about it,” Remus said.
“Alright, ask me,” Sirius said, landing on his feet. He tossed the men in the incinerator.
“What are we?“ Remus asked timidly. He had asked the question years ago.
“Casual lover's” Sirius smiled moving closer to Remus. He kissed him slowly. Remus’ mind wandered elsewhere. Sirius pulled away and smiled. “You are my lover, right?”
“Yes,” Remus answered, kissing Sirius again. He pulled Sirius inside. Remus pulled away and smiled. Sirius looked at him with a small smile. It was one of the first times they talked about the so called “Labeling issue” without a fight. Remus and Sirius went to the lounge and flicked on the television, where they watched movies for a couple hours.
It was a strange ordeal to finally find happiness. When they left again for lunch it had started snowing.
“Damn it, the blood will get on the snow” Sirius cursed.
“Then we'll just take lunch to go” Remus smiled. Sirius nodded.
Remus grabbed a handful of snow and threw it out Sirius, who wiped it off of himself and continued walking. Remus felt embarrassed about the entire thing and continued walking. They ate their lunch in the basement, a room that Remus had never visited. Remus had become very aware of Sirius’ foul mood and attributed it to the question he previously asked.
“I'll take them to the incinerator” Remus offered, a sort of apology.
“What? You?” Sirius looked up and Remus picked up a body.
“Yeah, I know how to work it,” he shrugged. He hauled the dead body to the incinerator and placed it inside. When he turned he saw Sirius carrying the other one.
“You don't have to-” Remus started.
“I want to” Sirius put the body in the incinerator and started it. Remus watched with a frown. He turned to Sirius and wiped a small drop of blood off his lip. Sirius smiled and they walked hand and hand inside.
“What'd you do to Barty?” Remus asked as they walked to the lounge.
“Me and James fought him a bit, that's all” Sirius shrugged. Remus could tell he was lying.
.

……
…….
Sirius hoped that the love of his life wouldn't find the dust on his jacket, the remains of Barty Crouch Jr.
James and him had tied him onto the roof. The next day, when Remus was going to eat, Sirius checked again and found the man dead. It was a refreshment. Another pig he had slaughtered. The secret would go with him until the day he died, if it ever happened.
Remus had grown softer, more loving. The fight was over, they were now settled. Sirius found himself falling deeper in love every day. He found that he looked forward to the sweet kisses in the morning and the chaste kisses at night. He loved the way Remus looked at him, his beautiful eyes.
He found that as the days progressed he loved Remus more and more. His partner, his love, his life.
He noticed Remus asking more and more questions. He answered them, somewhat truthfully. Remus asked what they were, Sirius answered honestly. Remus asked what had happened to Barty, he told half the story.
The two went to bed side by side, fat in love. One night Remus kissed Sirius’ neck. It had never happened before. Sirius thought he was trying to bite him.
“What are you doing?” He mumbled sleepily.
“I love you” Remus mumbled. Then Sirius fell asleep.
The next morning Remus didn't say his usual good morning. He stretched, climbed out the coffin and got dressed. Sirius hugged him from behind and smiled. Remus kissed his hand.
“You okay?” Sirius asked. Remus nodded and hummed.
And that was that. Remus seemed weirdly quiet the rest of the day.
“You're quiet today,” Sirius pointed out.
“I'm not quiet, you've been quiet” Remus said, looking up at him.
“Oh. Sorry, I just thought you were mad at me or something “ Sirius shrugged.
“Why would I be mad, did you do something?” Remus looked up. Was it a test?
Sirius hadn't thought he did anything. Maybe he did? He had been quiet that day.
“No, not that I know of,” Sirius shrugged.
“Okay then, I have no reason to be mad,” Remus said, going back to his book.
The clock ticked. It felt like a metronome. Sirius lit a cigarette and received a strange glance from Remus. After a few minutes Sirius looked back at his lover.
“I just kinda feel like you've been Micro aggressive for the past couple days, so are you sure that I didn't do anything wrong?”
“I thought you were being micro aggressive, so it's strange that you're saying that” Remus said, not lowering his book.
“So you admit you've been micro aggressive?” Remus looked up. The candlelight flickered. The room felt different than it had a few minutes ago. Sirius clenched his fists and put out his cigarette.
Remus put his book down. Something was about to happen.
Before anyone could stop them, the two men lunged towards each other and kissed.
Aggressive, hard, violently.
Sirius could feel blood coming from his lip, but he didn't stop. Hunger surged between them. Remus unbuttoned Sirius’ shirt as Sirius pulled off Remus’ sweater. They had never kissed like this.
Sirius pulled away. Remus’ face morphed into disappointment.
“Bedroom” Sirius muttered before kissing Remus again. The two stood up and laughed as they ran up the stairs. Remus kissed Sirius by the doorway, he kissed him while getting into the open coffin and he kissed down his abdomen while holding his lover's hand.
Remus looked up at Sirius who nodded wildly, unspoken consent. Remus undid Sirius’ belt and looked up cautiously.
“I.. I don't know what I'm doing” He whispered. Sirius smiled and sat up.
“Let me show you,” Sirius said. He sat up and up and looked at Remus, his hands on the other man's belt buckle. Remus nodded and Sirius took the belt off. He layed Remus down and unzipped the fly of his pants. Remus was already half hard. He pulled off his pants and his boxers in one swift movement. Remus blushed and pursed his lips.
Remus let out a gasp as Sirius took his length in his hand. He turned his head and closed his eyes, groaning.
“Have you ever done this before?” Sirius asked, rubbing the sensitive head.
“Not.. Not with a man” Remus moaned. Sirius nodded. He opened his mouth and teasingly licked Remus’ length. Remus moaned again and grabbed Sirius’ head. He guided his lover's open mouth towards his cock.
Sirius passionately sucked it as Remus writhed on the bed. Remus cried out in agony as Sirius slid his cock in and out of his mouth, faster, hungrily, passionately. Remus grabbed Sirius’ hair. When he looked up at Remus, he could see that he was in a state of pure bliss.
His face was flushed and he looked down at his lover with such pleasure. Remus squeezed his eyes shut and gripped Sirius’ hair harder. His back arched in pleasure and Remus Lupin came into Sirius Black's mouth.
Sirius swallowed it and pulled away. Remus’ softening cock fell onto his abdomen. Sirius sat up and cupped his lover's cheek.
“Do you want more, or are you tired?” Sirius whispered. Remus nodded slowly.
“More” He mumbled, nodding slowly. Sirius smiled and finally tugged off his own pants. He instructed Remus to lay on his side and positioned himself at the entrance. He grabbed Remus’ hand as he pushed into his tight channel.
Remus gasped and held Sirius’ hand tighter. The initial resistance gave way and he thrust into Remus’ entrance. He closed his eyes and moaned with his lover.
11 years and he neglected to do this
11 years of love
11 years of headaches
11 years of fighting.
It was always going to eventually fall down to this. Sirius grabbed Remus’ hips and thrust into him harder. Remus arched his back and closed his eyes. He could see Remus’ cock was hard again, and twitching. Remus closed his eyes and looked at Sirius. The two locked eyes and there was an unspoken agreement that this was the best thing they'd ever felt.
Remus moaned loudly before spilling lavishly while arching his back. Sirius thrust one more time, feeling himself on the edge of pleasure. Then he came. He closed his eyes and moaned in Remus’ ear. He relaxed a bit and groaned. After a couple minutes he slowly pulled out, causing Remus to groan. Remus sat up and wiped his eyes, his cock softening. He groaned and started cleaning up as Sirius laid down and smoked a cigarette.
After a while Sirius got up and changed into his pajamas, as did Remus. The two layed down, still in a state of bliss.

Chapter Text
It felt strange and awkward to wake up next to a man.
Remus found that he wasn't at all used to it. He felt a strange feeling in his stomach. Meanwhile Sirius had felt this feeling a thousand times. He opened the coffin and yawned.
“You look dead,” he commented.
“I am dead”
“Dead-er” He clarified.
“Maybe I'm swooning,” Remus smiled. Sirius nodded and stood up. Remus watched him for a moment, then got up. He grabbed his clothes and dressed, the awkwardness lingering in the air.
“We never really finished our conversation”
Sirius grabbed a cigarette, Remus handed him a lighter.
“What conversation Mon Cher?”
“About you. Being micro aggressive” Remus said, grabbing a comb. Sirius took a drag of his cigarette. He rubbed Remus’ shoulder and kissed his neck.
“Am I being micro aggressive now?” He purred. Remus felt a wave of annoyance. Sirius had asked him why he was mad and now he had forgotten it. Maybe it was like his family, his past, his future, his labeling, he just didn't want to talk about it all.
“You're being evasive” Remus said, rubbing his own eyes. “It's strange to think about, you probably do this with all your men”
“Don't think like that” Sirius said, giving him a quick peck on the cheek before leaving. Remus felt his stomach get heavy. He noticed that Sirius hadn't denied that he did this a lot, but he hadn't confirmed it.
He shook his head and walks downstairs. He could hear Sirius loudly singing.
“Il revient à ma mémoire
Des souvenirs familiers
Je revois ma blouse noire
Lorsque j’étais écolier”
It was a song Remus had never heard of. He could hear Sirius’ shoes clicking against the floor.
“Sirius!”
A record player blared from the kitchen, Sirius must have turned it on. Remus could see him straightening his hair.
“Are you going to eat?” Remus called weakly. Sirius nodded.
“Were you looking to go with me?” Sirius turned a bit.
Truthfully, Remus was not looking to go with Sirius, but found his hunting to be too brutal, too animalistic. Though it could open up opportunities for romance and maybe even speaking about their relationship. So Remus nodded and drank up Sirius’ smile.
Remus suckled on the woman's neck, drinking up the blood, while Sirius tore into the man's throat. They had gotten a couple walking outside late at night.
Remus watched in fascination as Sirius sucked from the man's throat.
“Have you ever been with a woman?” Remus asked, licking the wound and putting the woman down. Sirius looked up.
“I tried when I was a younger man, but I couldn't do it” Sirius admitted “Why?”
Remus shrugged.
“I know so little about you. I just wanna know what goes on in your head”
Sirius chuckled and looked at Remus, throwing the body away.
“I know everything about you because I turned you, I never thought to have introductions” Sirius smiled. I frowned.
“I hate how you treat everything like a joke” I stood up and hoisted up the body, walking to the car.
“Don't be like that sweetness”
Remus could hear Sirius trailing after him as he put the body in the car.
“You know I live for a good joke” Sirius said, lifting the man up bridal style and throwing him in the back.
“Yes, and I can accept that, I just don't want everything to be a joke. Eleven years and I feel like you still don't trust me at all”
“You're ridiculous, I trust you”
“You don't, I trust you with my heart, my body, my soul and you only trust me with your bed” Remus spat, climbing into the car. Sirius climbed into the drivers side.
“Everything has to be a fight. We can't just be” Sirius scoffed harshly “You're being a brat”
Remus paused and looked at Sirius.
“You said you read my mind earlier,” Remus pointed out.
“So what?”
“Why you turned me you told me that you couldn't”
Sirius paused, his body dangerously still. Remus stared ahead and sighed.
“I'm so tired of arguing with you, I just want to love you. You make it so hard. It's so hard to love you. One second you're vulnerable, the next you're evasive. I wanna go home”
Sirius frowned, lit a cigarette and started driving home.
The next couple days were awkward, they slept in the same coffin, they greeted each other, but they were worlds apart. Remus found himself trying hard to be mad at Sirius, but he always found a way to make him swoon.
“Do you know why it's called a French kiss, love?” Sirius asked while Remus was reading.
“Why?”
“Because during World War I, people saw French people kissing passionately with tongue, so they called it a French kiss” Sirius said, rubbing his throat.
He was lewd when he had to capture Remus’ attention.
“Keep giving me that dirty look, love, I might have to put that book down and do something incredibly indecent”
He was affectionate when he wanted to.
“Sometimes I think I turned you so I had a reason to come home”
Remus secretly enjoyed it. He told himself he would not truly give in until there was a real apology. He didn't stop himself from quietly indulging into affections. He let Sirius grab him and kiss him, he let Sirius pick out books for him. He even let Sirius lace up his shoes.
It took a week and a half for Sirius to apologize.
“I feel a distance between us” he said in the coffin, rubbing Remus’ neck. He had a habit of rubbing the spot where he had turned Remus. Remus thoroughly enjoyed this, although he'd never admit it.
“Yeah?” Remus said, turning to face Sirius.
“Yeah... I miss you, when you weren't so angry. You're so beautiful, and strong, and you're my muse. I'm sorry for lying, sometimes it's on accident. I don't mean to" Sirius kissed Remus’ cheek "If you'd like we can talk like you want. I'll tell you all about my experiences, you can re-tell me yours, it'll be a date"
Remus didn't want to swoon, but he couldn't help it. This is what he truly wanted. He wanted a partner. An honest partner.
"Alright" Remus smiled and nodded. Sirius grinned, kissing Remus’ neck again. Remus gave in to the affection, little did the two know the sun was coming up. The impossible sun they could never experience again.
"I was born into a family that believed that you shouldn't be turned by just any vampire, you should be turned by your family. They thought I should stay with them my entire life. I obviously didn't do that, I hated them. They thought that you should only turn people to enslave them. They thought the people you turned weren't 'pure blooded vampires' I had the habit of making love to the people they turned so they kicked me out. I used my savings account to start a life. Then for the next 70 years of my vampirism I spent my time with James... Remember the book I gave you?"
"I read it"
"And?"
"And he really loved you. In ways I couldn't"
Sirius smiled and tilted his head.
"But you also love me in ways he could never fathom" Sirius stood, grabbing a cigarette and his lighter "James was... I won't lie, he was amazing. I loved him so much, he was clever, he was a great man, and most of all he was impossible it to love, he had this maddening brilliance that only a couple men possess" Sirius looked back at Remus "You're jealous of him"
"I'm incredibly jealous of him"
"You shouldn't be"
"And why's that?"
"He couldn't hold my affection. He made me so mad, so upset by leaving that I found a better man in a year" Sirius shrugged.
Remus imagined James, leaving, screaming obscenities, dragging a bag. He wondered if that could ever be him.
"Why'd he leave?" Remus asked. Sirius frowned, his shoulders dropping, softening up. He looked amazing in this light.
"He didn't appreciate the beauty of two men falling in love. He found a woman, Lily Evans. She was beautiful no doubt, even I couldn't deny her that. He turned her, and they ran away and had a son" Sirius frowned, smoke exiting his mouth "I remember wondering why. I wondered if I was not an adequate lover"
"Thats the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard, you're plenty adequate" Remus laughed.
"We fight all the time, half the time it's because of me-"
"Our fights are nothing!" Remus laughed "I couldn't leave you, besides we have all of eternity to figure it out. It's awkward now. It's not... You slept with me the first time last week. It's new, it's fresh. It's like a bruise. Our fights will never lead to me leaving. You're my maker, and I love vampirism in a way I thought I never could, it's so new... It's so different, I don't have the burden of life. The expectations to perform, to make my short time meaningful, because all I have is time! I'll always be grateful for you in that way. Even if my love fades, I'll always have you"
Sirius watched Remus carefully as he spoke, he nodded softly and smiled.
"I'll always be with you" he repeated, walking towards Remus, rubbing his cheek. "Let me remind you while you'll always be with me"
The two laid in the coffin, sticky with sweat, thoroughly satisfied. Remus was still panting shallowly.
"So how'd I do, Mon Cher? Did you like it better the first or the second?"
Remus laughed, smoothing back his curls.
"You know I can't answer that" He sighed happily, curling onto Sirius' cold skin. It was pale and littered with bite marks and hickeys all throughout his chest. Remus was greatful for the dark marks against the porcelain color.
The two were half out the coffin, the lid open so they could sit up. Remus’ ass was still sore from the insistent pounding.
"You make it incredibly hard to stay mad at you, you know" Remus said. Sirius brought his cigarette to Remus’ lips and rubbed his back. Remus took a drag and coughed. Sirius chuckled softly. "I've been trying to be mad at you all week, but you kept being sweet and... Lewd. I prayed you would apologize soon"
"Lewd? I can't recall any lewdness" Sirius smiled, rubbing Remus’ hair.
"I can recall many, many times when you were incredibly lewd"
"Well you've never been in a relationship with a man that I know of"
"You're the only one, but that doesn't matter" Remus shrugged.
"It doesn't, I prefer it if I'm your first. No bad bedroom habits" Sirius smiled, rubbing Remus’ knee. "I'm saying that I've heard more lewd things"
"Hm" Remus nodded, his head moving to Sirius' chest. Sirius wrapped his hand around Remus’ head.
"So I've told you all about me, why don't you tell me all about you?" Sirius whispered.
Remus felt a wave of tiredness.
"Oh uhm, I didn't really know my parents, they put me in foster care so... It's been kinda rough-"
"Is that why you tried to kill yourself that night?" Sirius asked, his hand rubbing circles on Remus’ back. It felt good. Remus wondered if Sirius was hypnotizing him. He was so incredibly sluggish.
"Are you hypnotizing me?" Remus asked, fighting tiredness.
"I am, just to help you relax, keep you loose. It'll help you sleep. You toss and turn every night"
"What? No I don't" Remus said, sitting up and stretching.
"How do you know, you're asleep, keep talking about yourself" Sirius commanded, his voice like honey.
"I went... I went in and out of prisons... I had jobs and I went to school, and it all just piled up" Remus was incredibly sluggish. He rubbed his eyes, his arms feeling heavy "It was such a heavy weight and I just wanted it to end"
"Mhm" Sirius nodded, helping Remus lay down, he looked around for an ashtray.
"You can put that out on me" Remus pointed.
"Maybe later Sweetness" Sirius stubbed in out in a nearby ashtray and closed the coffin lid. "What was your breaking point?"
Sirius kissed Remus’ wrist. Remus groaned and turned to his side.
"I don't know... My girlfriend broke up with me... I just was so upset and I just wanted to die, and then you showed up" Remus strained against tiredness "Stop hypnotizing me, there's no way I'm tossing and turning"
"You are, I promise that you are, you'll have the best sleep on your life, I promise" Sirius said, moving to hold Remus against him.
"Come on" Remus groaned. Sirius sighed and snapped his fingers. Remus felt very awake. He groaned and rubbed his head. "What the hell?"
"I thought it would relax you more, when you talked about yourself" Sirius grumbled, turning to his side.
Remus thought about it. He did feel more relaxed.
"Why didn't you just tell me that?"
"Because then you wouldn't want to talk about it"
Remus looked at Sirius' silhouette and spooned against him, terrified at the sentiment that Sirius could make him tired at any time and regrettably appreciating the sentiment of the hypnosis.
He listened to Sirius quietly breathe, wondering if he had ever tossed and turned all throughout the night.

Chapter Text
Remus woke up completely nude and alone. Sirius was getting dressed and combing his hair.
"Good morning Mon Cher"
"It's night"
"Right then... Good night Mon ange" He smiled, turning around. Remus smiled at the sight, the light gave Sirius an impossible dreamlike glow.
"Can you hand me some clothes?"
"I prefer you without" Sirius said, kneeling at the edge of the coffin. He grabbed the back of Remus’ head and kissed him. Remus wanted desperately to talk about the hypnotism, but he didn't want to ruin the moment, so he held off.
Sirius pulled back and rubbed Remus’ cheek. He felt a strong love towards Sirius in that moment.
"We should do something tonight" Sirius muttered. "I want to go to the opera"
"It sounds like you've been planning this" Remus raised and eyebrow. Sirius shrugged.
"I can't deny that I've been thinking about taking you on a date ever since we fucked" Sirius shrugged. He went to the dresser and grabbed a suit. "Besides, you've already got the outfit"
Remus stood up, no longer concerned with his nudity. He grabbed the suit and inspected it. He pretended not to see Sirius checking him out. It was a plain black charcoal suit that showed off Sirius' wealth easily. He ran his fingers over the sleek material. It felt amazing, expensive, beautiful. It had a subtle sheen and looked tailored to fit him.
Remus wondered how Sirius got his measurements.
"Do you like it?" Sirius asked, running his hand down Remus’ lower back... Then even lower.
"It's perfect" Remus muttered. Sirius held out his hand, it was a small silver peice of jewelry.
A wolf tie pin.
"It reminded me of you" He said, resting his head on Remus’ shoulder.
"I love it, I'll try it on" Remus nodded. Sirius stepped back and sat in a chair. Watching in perversion as Remus slipped on his boxers suit and tie pin. He spun a bit to show off the suit.
"You look beautiful. I must admit, I have the urge to skip the opera all together and keep you here, under me. It'll be heaven"
Remus thought about it.
"As wonderful as that sounds I'm looking forward to the opera. I've never been"
"I've been a torturous number of times. I think you'll like it" Sirius nodded.
Remus chose to believe him.
Sirius used his power of coercion to get them into the opera free of charge, a box seat. Remus gasped quietly as they walked in. He caught a couple people sneering at his wonder. He didn't care.
They didn't know that he could kill them if he wanted too.
It turned out that Sirius was quite the socialite. He adopted many different names every couple centuries. This time, it was Mark Fisher.
"Mr. Fisher Thats a stunning suit" a man said, admiring the sheen of the suit. Remus couldn't help but admire it too. He showed off his body in the most delicious way.
As Sirius spoke graciously, Remus felt a similar fluttering in his stomach. He couldn't quite place it. Then suddenly it came to him.
Shame
The feeling was shame.
He could see the sneers and the disgusted looks that the patrons of the opera gave him. He felt awkward next to Sirius. He could lie and say he wasn't ashamed of standing next to him, but it would be futile. He heard murmurs around the opera, Chastising Sirius for having a male companion.
"Perhaps he's a friend?"
"No, just look at the two, matching suits..."
"It's indecent. Flaunting it around at the opera. I mean, I have no hatred towards the homosexuals but must they be some loud about it everywhere?"
"He is far too young for him too"
Remus cringed at the insults. They seemed to slip down Sirius' back. A man with black hair tapped on Sirius' shoulder. He turned and frowned.
"Regulus" Sirius muttered.
"Sirius. I didn't expect to see you here" The man smiled. "I thought you hated the opera?"
"I don't, I just don't think its an every night ordeal. I was made aware that Remus has never been"
Regulus looked at Remus. Regulus looked similar to Sirius. He looked younger. Regulus and Sirius had the same black hair, the same eyes, the same nose. They were vaguely similar but still completely different.
"And who is this Remus" Regulus smiled at Remus.
"My companion" Sirius answered. Remus looked back at Sirius. Regulus nodded and stood closer.
"Why didn't you return any or my letters? I wrote to you" He said quietly.
"I had other priorities" Sirius answered stiffly.
"That never stopped you before" Regulus said, his lip slightly quivering. Remus felt bad for him in a way. He knew what it was like to meet Sirius' cold shoulder. "Or has your new companion taken up all your times"
Regulus turned to look at Remus, who felt frozen.
"What happened to the Potter boy Sirius?" Regulus asked, his voice filled with emotion "did you abandon him too?"
"I'm not here for family reunions. Why don't you go find mother and enjoy the performance. I'll see you the same time I always see you"
"Once a year isn't fair, I want my brother back" Regulus said, tilting his head. Sirius looked down and frowned. He shrugged.
Regulus shook he head, turned and strut away. Sirius watched him with an expression that Remus had never seen before. He looked upset. Nearly human but not quite there.
Sirius grabbed Remus’ arm and led him to the booth. It was private in a way. It had a half wall and two chairs, it was very spacious. Remus could see the stage.
"When the opera starts, I'm going to pretend to leave, but crawl back in behind the wall" Sirius said quietly. Remus looked back at him, confused.
"What? You won't be able to see" Remus looked around.
"Trust me you'll enjoy the opera more if I do this, but I need you to unzip your fly" Sirius raised an eyebrow. It took Remus five seconds before he understood what Sirius meant.
"No! What if someone sees!"
"You can hypnotize then if you wish, or they can see. It'll feel good, I promise" Sirius said, grabbing Remus’ knee. Remus looked down at the stage conflicted then at the half wall.
"The booths are far apart Remus. Nobody will see... Unless you'd like them to see"
"Stop it" Remus muttered, unsure if he meant the words.
"There's a tent in your pants"
"Shut up" Remus hissed, but Sirius was right.
The orchestra began to tune. People sipped champagne and laughed. They were all oblivious.
"I know you want it" Sirius whispered, sitting down. Remus sat down next to him and looked at the stage. He could see Sirius watching the stage from the corner of his eyes. Remus unzipped his fly.
Sirius grinned, noticing the act.
"You'll have to be quiet" He muttered.
"I know, that's what I'm worried about" Remus bit back. The lights dimmed and the show started. It was a beautiful woman singing in French. Remus had actually started to get into the story. The opera was Pelléas et Mélisande. Remus hadn't thought he'd be so compelled.
In the middle of act one, Sirius stood up, pretend to walk out, then crawled back into the booth. Remus held his breath. He tried to focus on the opera as Sirius pulled out Remus’ cock.
It was medium sized, six inches cut. He breathed through his nose as Sirius grabbed it and put his mouth on the head.
Pleasure erupted in Remus’ stomach, his legs tensed and he felt the urge to moan. He bit his lip and closed his eyes. Sirius smirked as he began to steadily suck.
Remus covered his mouth, trying to focus on the opera. He had never felt a pleasure like this. He looked around the room to see if anyone was staring, yet nobody was. Everyone was enamoured by the opera.
The violins swelled and so did his pleasure. He grabbed Sirius' hand and squeeze it, feeling closer and closer to release.
The baritones voice cut through the violin, sad and mournful. Remus realized something. Sirius' tongue moved along with the notes. It was toe-curling pleasure.
He dug his fingers into the armrest and leaned his head back, his hips thrusting on their own. His breath came out shallow, he held back moans and covered his mouth.
Finally he did ellict one noise, a small moan as he came in Sirius' mouth. Sirius drank it up and kept his mouth on Remus’ cock.
it felt too good.
His cock remained hard inside Sirius' mouth. He twitched every so often and watched the opera. Sirius remained on his cock until the next act, where he pulled away, crawled to the curtain and came back, a small amount of cum on his lip.
"You have something on your lip" Remus whispered. Sirius licked them and smiled. He sat down next to Remus who quickly zipped up his fly.
Sirius grinned at this and pointed lazily to the stage.
"This is my favorite part" he whispered.
The opera continued, the orchestra coming to the flourish. Mélisande turned her face to the light.
It was nice to learn about Sirius' interests. To Remus, Sirius was God. He was untouchable, immortal, powerful, charismatic, bright in impossible ways and commanded specific things in people without trying.
He couldn't help but feel attracted to that.
Sirius was the opposite of everything that Remus was.
They were bound to be in love.

Chapter Text
Sirius had made a complete one-eighty since the opera.
It was like his eyes had opened up to Remus.
The cunning man who took every opportunity to manipulate and use sweet, sugary words for trickery had turned into a sweeter man. He took less opportunities for manipulation.
Remus theorized that it was because of their talk about James. It didn't really matter what it was, as long as he stayed like that.
"If I had to guess anyone in history, I'd probably guess Paul McCartney" Remus said.
The two men were sitting in the library, chairs on the opposite sides of the rooms. Sirius had a cigarette, Remus had wine. An all American picture.
Besides the absence of a woman.
"Paul McCartney is not a vampire sweetheart" Sirius snorted.
"The boy looks the same as he did in the 60's" Remus laughed.
"You look the same as you did in the 60's too, how long has it been?"
"Eleven years"
"God, I feel like a cradle snatcher"
Remus laughed at this, not because Sirius was wrong but because the two looked the same age.
"How old are you anyways?" Remus asked.
"Old enough to have these books memorized by heart, young enough to love you" Sirius gestured to the books in the library. Remus nodded.
"I love the library. It's my favorite part of this house" Remus said, looking around "Is it a forever home?"
Sirius paused, looking at the floorboards, as if the wood grain would spell out an answer.
No
Yes
Why do you want to know?
Does the expensive wood and the library not impress you enough?
It was not a question of the house, it was a question on whether he would stay. Would Sirius stay in the library forever?
Instead of answering he simply smiled and took another drag of his cigarette. Remus would not force an answer out of him, so they sat there. Remus went back to his book while the spring coolness heated up for summer outside.
Sirius rubbed the back of Remus' neck as they walked through The Musée Marmottan Monet.
It was Sirius' birthday and this is what he decided to do with his time. Sirius woke up to fresh blood, sex and a small gift. It was a pack of cigarettes and best of all, a new coffin. It was big enough to fit them both and lined with silk. Sirius decided to Christen it immediately.
"Did you know that Claude Monet died of lung cancer?" Sirius said, looking at Monet's "Water Lillies".
"I didn't know that"
"I, of course, could never imagine it. Your body eroding into nothingness, people doting while you die" He seemed in a far away place.
"Nobody can imagine death" Remus shrugged "Nobody's come out of death alive. It's a foreign concept"
"A strange forshadowing" Sirius confirmed, moving to the next painting "only for the mortals"
"For us too. We'll die one day, we just have more time"
Sirius tilted his head and moved to the next painting.
"This one is 'The Japanese Bridge'" Sirius nodded.
It was an extremely ugly portrait. It looked as if a toddler had smeared a ton of colors onto a paper after deciding to quit. It looked gaudy.
"It's quite the painting" Remus nodded, pushing back his feelings for the ugly painting. "I don't think I like expressionism"
"Hm? And what do you like?"
"Tempera. Those renessaince paintings with the people. You know where everything's so yellow?"
"Right, the Italian wonders" Sirius nodded "I'll have to take you to Italy one day"
Remus doubted that they would ever even make it to Italy. Remus doubted that Sirius knew art. He was educated enough to be clever but he certainly wasn't book smart. He was gorgeous like this, the soft museum light on his brow, his slight lisp due to the fangs, his black hair on his shoulders.
If Remus had a camera he would take a picture of Sirius and put it in his pocket where this version of him, this sweet version of him would live forever.
Remus adored when Sirius wasn't screaming or yelling or throwing miscellaneous belongings. It was embarrassing to even think back on the moments.
One question always arose in the back of Remus' wretched mind.
How did James Potter deal with Sirius?
Of course, James had left Sirius for a woman but what happened before Lily? Was he better at sex? Was he loud like Sirius? Was he thoughtful? Athletic? Ugly? Kind?
There was a small pebble of jealousy that always stayed with Remus. It was insistent and loud. He felt it when he felt happy with Sirius.
"This might be stupid" Remus started "but how do you usually spend your birthdays?"
Sirius smiled and looked back at Remus as the two men walked into the next room.
"At my darling mother's house I would eat cake in my room and buy myself a present. I always hated celebrating it there. Reg always tried to do something for the occasion, I always told him not to worry. I think you're wondering what I did with James though" Sirius smirked.
Remus felt his heart sink.
"Yes, I suppose I was"
"You're jealous of him"
"I'm not, I have you now"
"But you didn't have me then, you didn't have me when James had me"
"Yes but I have you now and that's more than enough-"
"I mean James was there longer, he was a big part of my life, it's only natural for you to be curious"
Remus felt annoyed as Sirius rambled on. He wanted to do something vulgar to catch Sirius off guard. He reached over and grabbed the globe of Sirius' ass. The man paused with the rambling and grinned, his teeth shinning.
"You're tired of this conversation, I take it"
"I'm tired of you dancing around the answer, I wish I had gotten you tap shoes" Remus scoffed.
"Well you know me, love" Sirius shrugged.
Remus didn't know what he meant. He supposed it was just a throwaway line to get Remus off his back. As they walked through the museum and laughed Remus felt happy. It was the first good time in a long time where there was peace.
The quiet before the storm
