Chapter Text
I peered through the scope of my sniper rifle.
The village was relatively small, at least small enough to rob it quickly without anyone getting wind of it.
As if fate was playing into my hands, I noticed a crack in the town wall. I should fit through there.
Normally I would never do such a thing. I myself detest raiders who steal and destroy villages, but this time it is really necessary. Besides, I'm not gonna harm anybody, nobody will even see me.
The supplies were practically not even present, the only thing I still had was a hare that I killed two days ago and there is almost nothing left of it.
I had my entrance and I saw a house, which was a kind of bar. They certainly have something to eat and drink in there.
All right, it's settled and all planned out, now I just have to wait until it's night, then I'll strike.
A few hours passed and it was already a dark and quiet night, all the lights were turned off.
Two people, however, patrolled the village.
My sniper and pistol would wake up everyone in there, so the only option I had was my hunting knife.
What was I even thinking? I am not a murderer! I've never killed an innocent person, just a few raiders and a few crazies who were probably part of a cult or something. They attacked me though, it was self defense.
Enough unpleasant memories. I took my hunting knife, the rest I left here. If everything goes as planned, I'll be back here in a quarter of an hour at the latest.
I slowly walked down the hill and in the meantime I noticed that one of the patrolling people had disappeared.
This could cost me, I hate it when I lose track, but there was no turning back now.
I squeezed through the crack in the wall and crept up to the bar.
The door was locked, but the window was slightly open.
I pushed it up and climbed in, it was dark but still light enough to see.
???: Ellie? Where did you go?
Shouted the guy patrolling outside.
Ellie? Probably the second person who was supposed to be patrolling. Apparently I wasn't the only one who lost sight of her.
I crept up to the bar counter.
Alcohol didn't interest me, but luckily I found water.
I packed four bottles in my backpack and went to the other side of the bar.
On the floor were plastic bags with food inside.
What was that? I took out a piece of meat and took a bite.
Beef? Oh man that's fucking awesome. I can't remember the last time I ate something so delicious.
But now is not the time to munch, I put two bags in my backpack and was about to close it when suddenly the light came on.
"Fuck."
I whispered.
???: Hands up, or you'll get a bullet.
I slowly raised my hands and stood up.
???: Turn around.
I slowly turned around and saw a girl with brown hair. She was really pretty, the only thing that bothered me was the shotgun that she was aiming at me.
Y/N: Hi.
???: Who are you and what are you doing here?
Y/N: I'm Y/N. I don't want anything from you, just some supplies.
???: Oh yeah? And then you thought you'd just walk in here and get what you want?
Y/N: Yeah.
???: Wrong. Do you have any weapons on you?
Y/N: Just my hunting knife.
???: Put it on the ground and slide it to me.
I did what she said.
Y/N: How about you just let me go, I'll even let you have your beef. I just need a bottle of water.
???: If you needed help, you should have just asked, but now it's too late for that. Jesse, get in here, we got an intruder!
A man came through the door and pointed his gun at me.
Y/N: Hi uh...Jesse.
Jesse: You picked the wrong village.
Y/N: She already told me that.
I said and pointed to the girl in front of me.
Jesse: Ellie are you okay?
Ellie: Yeah, I caught him stealing here.
Jesse: You'll be thrown in the cell for now.
He said and tried to grab my arm but I dodged him.
Y/N: Wait a goddamn minute, what cell?
Jesse tried to grab me again, but I hit him across the face, which made him fall to the ground, I took the opportunity and jumped out the window again and ran as fast as I could.
I could hear Ellie behind me, she was chasing me and the alarm went off.
I ran to the gate, but it closed, probably because of the alarm.
When I got to the gate, I looked around to see if I could climb over.
Ellie: Don't even think about it.
I turned around and saw that Ellie was once again aiming at me, in the meantime a few other villagers have gathered around us.
Y/N: Hey, guys, this is all just a huge misunderstanding.
A man came up to me and tried to hit me, but I dodged him.
He tried again, with the same result.
Only this time I kicked him in the knee, which made him sink to one knee.
Y/N: Better stay down, old man.
I smirked, but my success was short lived because I was grabbed from behind. I wasn't able to throw a punch so I hit his face with the back off my head, which made him release me. He grabbed me again tho, this time I wasn't able to react.
Because the other guy got up again and punched me in the face, again and again, after the fourth time I sank to the floor.
Ellie: That's enough, stop it!
???: Hey! Enough!
A fifth punch made my lights go out and I sank to the floor, losing my consciousness.
Ellie POV:
Ellie: Damn it Joel, what is wrong with you?!
Joel: He's an intruder, we have to deal with them, no mercy. Guys! Put him in the cell.
Jesse: What an asshole, punched me in the face while I was just trying to restrain him.
Ellie: Do you know him?
Jesse: No, never seen him before. We'll have to question him tomorrow, I'm afraid he might be part of a group.
Ellie: Do you think he would show up here alone if he had a group?
Jesse: Are you saying he's a stray?
Ellie: Could well be.
Joel: He can definitely fight, but the question is where did he learn that?
Jesse: Maybe he's part of the WLF.
Joel: Maybe.
Jesse: Then we better kill him right now.
Ellie: What? Let's wait and see what he has to say.
Jesse: Ellie, if this guy is part of the WLF and this was planned, they'll be at our gate in the morning.
Ellie: And if he's not part of the WLF, you're killing an innocent guy.
Jesse: He's certainly not innocent, he was trying to rob us.
Joel: I agree with Jesse, he's not innocent, but we're not going to kill him either. Tomorrow morning we will question him.
Ellie: Let me know when you do, don't start without me.
Joel: Alright, good night. I'll see you in the morning.
Ellie: Night.
