The Bowl of Floaties

Summary:

There's a problem with a toilet in one of the restrooms at Greendale.

Notes:

From this week's sprint. 20 minutes on one prompt and this is what I got from it.

Prompt: Location: The Restroom

Loosely based on a thing from Evil the TV show which is one of the best things currently airing (for now).

Work Text:

The toilet is gurgling and there’s a shaking sound going down the pipes, this is all very concerning to the everyday man. But this is Greendale and it is all par for the course, so of course no one reacts. Not even when an eye pops up into the bowl one day.

“Ew,” Troy cringes at the eye in the bowl. It looks like it’s following him around but since eyes don’t belong in toilet bowls but in the heads of people or animals with eyes he doesn’t give it much thought when he flushes it down.

No the eye is no regular eye but he didn’t know that at the time so he went on with his day as normal and didn’t mention the incident to anyone.

Instead the toilet gets known as the problematic one when the water often over flows of it self. No clogs, not even when the custodian tries to snake the pipe backwards to see if there’s a clog anywhere. So the life goes on as normal.

Abed is of course interested in all this happening to the toilet bowl. Cursed, he calls it when he speaks with Jeff. He’s trying to talk Jeff into fund his newest movie idea: Ghost in a Bowl, the documentary.

It does not go over well but Britta over hears and hands him her last 20, which he promptly uses on some snacks and tea for his all night filming of the said toilet.

He sets up his camera in front of it, getting some looks from the users of the other stalls, but he says it’s all in the effort of finding out the truth about the toilet, why it acts the way it does. Most ignore Abed afterwards and the restroom is rather empty the rest of the day.

Gurgles is heard from the toilet after a few hours and Abed brings the camera closer to the bowl, in hopes to see something more. But it is empty. Nothing in there to indicate anything. It gurgles again and a bubble of air pops up from the water. Pop!

“Strange indeed,” Abed mutters to himself.

The toilet bowl gurgles and another air bubble comes out. Pop!

“Maybe if it’s haunted I can ask it questions,” Abed says to himself and the toilet.

It gurgles again, this time two air bubbles float up. Pop! Pop!

“Pop! Pop!” Abed replies. “Are you in there?”

Gurgle. Pop! Pop!

“Have you been here long?”

Gurgle. And it goes quiet for a little. Gurgle. Pop! Pop!

Abed zooms in a little, letting the shake of his hands come into the picture of the film. A way to introduce motion into something boring.

“Can I help you?”

Gurgle.

Abed is about to talk again when something floats up to the top. An eye ball floats in the water, watching up at him.

“Did someone flush you down?”

The toilet gurgles, the pipes start to shake and groan in the worst water possible before something comes shooting out of the bowl. It lands on the edge of the seat, a small body of a doll only it moves around, its small body heaving for air it seems.

It’s disgusting and smells about what a sewer does.

“Uh,” Abed blinks into the camera. “OK.”

He quickly puts the camera away, gets the toilet brush and pushes it back down the toilet bowl and flushes it down. Abed swears to never speak of this to anyone so he does what any sane secret keeper does and deletes the whole tape.

He also flushes down the tape and leaves the restroom.
