Foreign dream, recognizable dance

Summary:

Wels just thinks he's having some weird, creepy ballroom dream that has this familiar feeling. That is until he wakes up and he's not sure what it was.

Work Text:

Wels looked across the room of recognizable but unfamiliar faces. An uneasy feeling creeped down his spin. He frowned, looking down at his drink, then what he was wearing. Most of his clothing was either pearly white or a pale blue having foliage weaved into it. Along with small bits of armor here and there, like pauldrons and vambraces, which too fit the pearly white and blue aesthetic.

The ballroom buzzed with the unfamiliar bodies that wisped past Wels. It was an elegant ballroom, one from dreams. So why did it give Wels the chills? He couldn’t put his finger on it. Someone cleared their throat, “Away with the fairies, are we?” Wels slowly teared his gaze away from the buzz of the ballroom. He was met with recognizable blue eyes, like the ocean itself. However, the rest of their features looked similar to his friend but still missed the mark. Wels shook his head, giving a weak smile, “Maybe a little.”

xB scratched his beard, chuckling, “Aren’t we all at time? Anyways, Mr. Mysterious has picked an interesting crowd tonight.” xB gestured backwards towards a tall lad that had blond hair with contrasting brown eyes, who mainly dressed in black. He was accompanied by a few others, all dressed starkly different.  “Hypno?” Wels whispered, well it looked like Hypno but he still felt off. It only added to the shivers that ran up and down his back. xB tilted his head, furrowing his brows, “Uh, yeah. Who else would I be… Never mind, I’m head over. Doc’s really been pushing that he might be the agent. So, like I’ve been doing for the past 8 years, I intend to prove him wrong… Again.”

xB took one last sip of his drink before patting  Wels on the back, “I’ll be on the line, alright?” Wels nodded as xB left, though Wels was completely lost. He watched as xB came up behind Hypno and placed a hand on their lower back before he started talking. Wels looked to the center of the ballroom. It was filled with partners dancing through the air. As they threaten to graze the dome of the ceiling, to paint their fingerprints on the ancient artwork that lined it.

Wels frowned, this doesn’t feel right, he thought. He went to bite his nails, but he couldn’t bring his hand past his drink. It felt as though it was chained to the table. Instead, he started to chew on his lip, as he looked down at the drink. He shifted, now noticing he was standing and it was starting to get uncomfortable.

I don’t like this, Wels thought, this all feels off somehow. He took a sip of his drink, starting to lose himself in thought.

He snapped out of his trance when he briefly felt a hand brush against back, “Hey, handsome.” The voice was sharp, laced with an odd bitter sweetness that came from behind him. Again, the voice was recognizable. Wels sharply inhaled as he turned to see the source of the voice. He was expecting someone familiar but not right like the others, instead he was met with someone that he recognized instantly. Moths started to eat at Wels’ stomach as his body tensed. He fidgeted with his drink and cleared his throat, “Hey… Jevin.”

Now I know this isn’t right, Wels thought, a headache started to arise, Jevin isn’t supposed to be here, right? He’s a vill-

“You alright man?” Jevin asked, seeming genuinely concerned. Wels went to answer, but then something stopped him and he just shook his head. It felt odd, having someone that you fight and was considered by your corporation to be enemies with, look at you with concern. Jevin furrowed his eyebrows and frowned, “Well then, wanna…” He trailed off and looked towards the dancers that swang on nothing by air, Wels followed his gaze. Confused Wels asked, “Do I want to, what?”

Jevin playfully rolled his eyes, giggling, “Dance. Do you wanna dance?” He asked, smiling. “Dance?” Wels repeated, unsure. Jevin laughed again, “What? Never been asked before?” Wels shook his head and Jevin dropped the smile, “Wait… Seriously? No one?” Wels stood up straight, clearing his throat, “No?” Jevin scoffed, “Well then, let me be the first.” At first Wels thought he was joking but then Jevin put one hand behind his back and offered the other one while trying to stifle another giggle turning it into a warm smile. “May I have your first dance?” Jevin asked in a bit of a goofy tone.

Wels’ chest swelled at the thought of Jevin and his offer. Was it so wrong that he wanted to say yes? Say yes, to someone he was supposed to hate, but never really did? Though, out of the room of people he was supposed to recognize, out of everyone, he found Jevin the only one familiar in such a foreign feeling land.

Wels could feel his heart racing as he took Jevin’s hand. He chewed on his inner cheek as he felt intense eyes watching them as they took the floor. Wels dipped his head, starting to shrink and feel little. His headache slipped away as Jevin laced their fingers, giving a mischievous smile as he guided Wels’ hand to his waist then wrapped his arm around Wels neck. With a sharp smile Jevin whispered, “I have a confusion… I don’t actually know how to dance, but it looks fun with you. And I’d say I’m a pretty good faker.” Wels let out a nervous laugh, his face starting to grow a little warm. “Right, of course because that’s such a you thing to do.” Jevin gave a proud, tooth filled grin.

“Trust me?” Jevin asked as he started to lead Wels further onto the dance floor. Wels offered a nervous smile, “More than I’d like to admit.” He gave a low villainous chuckle and in an odd way it was comforting to Wels. As they slowly moved through the dance floor Wels couldn't help but chew on the inside of his cheek again. All eyes were on them, all movement had stalled, and the only thing that could be heard was the music. It sent shivers down Wels back as he looked over his shoulder to the unmoving bodies. Jevin’s grip tightened on his shoulder grabbing Wels attention once more.

His gaze was intense as he hissed, “You see them too, huh?” Wels slightly tilted his head, “ Them? ” Jevin side eyed a space in between a guest with a motorbike helmet that was eerily familiar but out of place among the nicely dressed guests. Wels made an acknowledged hum as Jevin rested his head on the crook of Wels’ neck.

“I’ve been seeing more voidwalkers recently. I think he’s looking for 85…” Jevin started to trail off into a harsh whisper, “I don’t like what 85 is up to. I get my sense of moral compass is sometimes crooked but I do have some morals. I’ll send you what I know later but this will be the only time I’ll help you because we…” Jevin dragged his final remarks out.

“Have mutual respect for one another,” Wels hummed. Jevin straightened as a soft film of pink dusted his cheeks, “Ye-yeah, that…” There was a calm silence before Jevin spoke again. “You smell like pine, did you know that?” Wels let out a soft chuckle, “Thanks for letting me know.” Jevin gave a low laugh, “Why of course dove.” He said before winking and placing a soft kiss.

Wels narrowed his eyes, Dove? Wait-

Jevin’s smile faded as he looked past Wels. His grip tightened on Wels as his own body tensed. “Still trust me?” He asked, worry lacing his voice. Wels could only nod in confusion. Jevin offered a soft smile as his hand on Wels’ neck gently pulled him down for another soft kiss. It was oddly bittersweet and Jevin’s breath was warm against his face. “Good, now wake up.” Before Wels could get a sound out he felt a sharp pinch in the center of his back.

Wels sat up covered in sweat as his heart raced, gasping for air as he brung his hand to his chest making a fist of his grey shirt as the room spinned. He groaned, rubbing his eyes before reaching a shaky hand to grab his water. He breathed out, then took a sip as he servaided his room. Which was dimly illuminated by the gentle moon light. The room was only a little messy, with odds here and there. Wels let out a sigh and took one more sip. He turned to his dresser, where a duffle bag sat half unzipped. Wels frowned as he sat the glass back on his nightstand and laid back down, facing the window.

He didn’t bother to recover himself as he closed his eyes, starting to slip back into sleep. That was until he could only hear his alarm screaming, demanding he wake up. “Of course,” Wels hissed under his breath. He rolled over, hitting the alarm as he sat up and crawled out of bed. He sauntered over to the duffle bag letting out a sigh as he bent down. Wels moved the opening to the bag to look at its context as if it had changed. It hadn’t, still in the duffle bag sat a proud pristine knight helmet with intricate pale blue foliage like hostas ingrained onto it, lining the helmet. Next to the helmet lay a giant feathered edged sword.

Wels hummed as he pushed past them a small disk, no bigger than his hand. He slipped it into his pocket as he left his room. He continued to hum a song of old as he prepared himself some coffee. Wels played the dream in his head time and time again, turning it, trying to figure it out before it became fuzzy and hard to recall. He rubbed his sore eyes before finishing his cup of coffee. Wels slowly made his way back to his room to change into something simple. Like a white shirt and baggy black pants with some older boots. He walked over to his pajama pants and pulled out the small disk.

Wels’ fingers ran over the foliage grooves that were ingrained onto it. He hummed as his thumb found a tiny button, clicking it he reached to put the disk in between his shoulder blades. It sat sung as he slipped his leather jacket on. His attention was grabbed by a ping from his phone. He quickly zipped the duffle bag and swung it onto his shoulder before walking over to his phone. Wels picked the phone up to see a message from a recognizable number that he wasn’t totally familiar with. Wels shrugged, opening the app to fully read it.

Wels’ eyes widened and he blinked a couple times. He reread the message in disbelief. His thumb hovered over the files for a second before opening them. Sure enough, there were two videos and a document that seemed to be an outline of something like a plan. The videos were a little scuffed and out of focus but it was something. Wels chewed on his nail, This could be huge, he thought. So he forwarded the files to Hayez with an ‘I’ll explain later’ message. He slipped his phone back into his pocket as he headed for the door, still chewing on his nail when shivers ran down his back. Wels rushed out the door, checking the clock.

Great, I need to hurry before I miss the tra-  He slowed his pace. Maybe I should pay him a visit, he thought as he left his apartment. Yeah, iJ has some explaining to do, Wels hummed to himself . He changed his direction and sent Hayez another message before leaving.

Notes:

This is just an offset "chapter" to a series I'm trying to write. I don't know if it's going to go anywhere though.
Hayez = Hypno
iJ = Jevin
