Chapter Text
It was a normal day at UA. No villain attacks, normal lessons, Aizawa not trying to kill them by dropping a building on them. Well maybe not quite normal, maybe more calm and peaceful than normal. But still nothing to be worrying about, these days do happen occasionally.
Well that was until Bakugou got a call in the middle of class. That was odd, Bakugo’s phone never goes off in class, not even a notification, let alone a phone call. And what was weirder, he didn't just hang up, he asked Aizawa if he could take the call outside, politely asked, Bakugou does not do polite.
The reason Bakugou left was because it was a call from his boyfriend izuku, who had his schedule memorized and would never call in class, even in emergencies. So he was curious about the reason for the call, and if it was actually him on the other end.
Of course people tried to listen in when he left the room, but Aizawa values privacy and so prevented them from doing so and continued the lesson. It was when Bakugou came back that things got even worse. He walked over to Aizawa and wrote on one of the post-it notes on the desk. Whilst that was weird, what was worse was the reply from Aizawa, ‘you are excused from class, take as long as you need’.
Aizawa never lets anybody leave without an essay explaining why they will be gone, what they will be doing, when they are leaving and when they are coming back. Why does a post-it suffice this time, what happened.
It was dark by the time that Bakugou made it to the hospital. He had received a call in class from his boyfriend, but it was his mother on the other end of the call. Izuku had tried to kill himself, he was in critical condition at the hospital and they didn't know if he would make it.
Bakugou was angry when he heard that, angry at the school for allowing the bullying to get so bad, angry at society for allowing this to happen, angry at himself for not being able to prevent it.
He had tried, all through school till he got to UA, he tried to help, always kept the bullies away from Izuku, beat them up if they hurt him or said something mean. He was not able to do that when he got into UA, they were at different schools now, and wouldn't be able to protect him from further away.
He knew that this would happen eventually, that he would be unable to protect him from the others, from his own mind, he just thought that he had more time to help him heal, to save him from himself. He should have seen the signs earlier, he was always covered in bruises and cuts when they saw each other, always looked like he had just been crying. He shouldn't have taken his excuses at face value, he should have pushed, helped. Now Izuku is dying, he may never see him again.
Izuku was in surgery now, trying to fix the damage, keep him alive. Bakugou could not stop blaming himself, that he was a hero, that he should have done more. He stayed with Izuku in the hospital all day and night. Watching as his condition slowly got worse, till 2 days later he died, in that hospital bed, not having heard the amount of times that Bakugou had pleaded with him to wake up.
It was two weeks after that the funeral was set for.
Almost 3 weeks later from that phone call when Bakugou finally returned to UA.
As the days grew longer now that Bakugou was not in class, the students got more worried, especially with Aizawa not mentioning it, though Aizawa did notice the fall in some of the students' grades, and progressively worse attention span in class. But did not tell the class, it was none of his business to do so.
The class fell into silence almost 3 weeks later when Bakugou walked in. All expecting something, whether that be an explanation, him shouting at them to stop staring, or saying that it was none of their business. What none of them expected was that he silently went up to the desk, handed Aizawa a note and dragged Kirishima out of the classroom. And even then Aizawa said nothing about bakugou's strange behaviour.
Kirishima was confused as he was dragged from class, and towards the dorms. ‘What is happening Bakugou?’.
Bakugou was silent till they reached the dorms, ‘you are accompanying me to a funeral, go put on something black’, almost throwing Kirishima through the doors. Kirismima was in shock from that, so he didn't really say anything, couldn't really Bakugou had already disappeared to his room to change, so he walked up to his dorm to find something black.
They met back downstairs 10 minutes later, both having put on a black suit, and immediately left to go to the funeral. He did not know who’s funeral it was, Bakugou had not said, Kiri had assumed a close family member, given that he had not been in class for 3 weeks, he was wrong, sort of, but he did not know that yet.
Kiri was in a daze, lost in his own mind until they got to the funeral, questions like, whose funeral is it? How did they die? Why did Bakugou bring me? All flashed through his head, not daring to verbalize any of them due to Bakugou having said all of one sentence to him, not wanting to disturb the silence, or annoy Bakugou with his questions.
It was a few hours later when they got to the funeral, with it being out in the countryside, at Izuku’s favourite place, where he and Bakugou started dating. It was beautiful, the white black and green flowers surrounding the grave and the sun starting to set over the horizon, dusk was always Izuku’s favourite time of day, just before the light disappears revealing the hidden stars beyond.
The funeral went quite quickly, there were very few people there, 9 people came to celebrate Midoriya’s life, so few people to attend a child’s funeral. What was surprising to him though was the villains that showed up, AFO, Shigaraki, Dabi and Toga. How did this child know them? How did this child know them so much that they all had eulogies written for him? Eulogies that all made him cry from how good natured this child was, and how cruel the world was to him because of something that he could not control.
It was Bakugou’s eulogy that made everyone cry the most though, Bakugou was going to propose to him, they were dating for 5 years, and was planning on proposing during the next holiday. He had planned to do it on a hiking trip, and propose here as the sun set over the horizon, with the stars starting to show from behind the light, on their 6th anniversary and a new moon.
They did not stay for long after that as Kiri needed to return to school before curfew. Nothing was said on the way back to UA, apart from a quick goodbye at the gate, and a whispered promise from Kiri that he would not talk to the others about what had happened.
