Work Text:
Tommy was a child. A child soldier, forced to grow up too fast and fight in wars at 16 years old. Now he was 17, and he had to tie up some loose ends with Dream. One visit, to let Dream know that Tommy did not break yet. Let Dream know that Tommy was free, and Dream was stuck without anything.
"Sam. I want to visit Dream." Tommy informed the prison warden.
"If you're sure. Put your items in this chest, step through the portal. Once you get to the Nether there is another portal. Step through that."
Tommy complied, putting everything in the chest. He went through the portals. He didn't know this breath might be his last.
"Take the fire res, then step on the flying machine." Sam ordered. Tommy rode the flying machine and then saw Dream.
"Hello, Tommy!" Dream yelled.
"Shut up. I'm here to say that I won. I'm free, and you are locked up here. I hope you rot here." Tommy paced, laughing at Dream.
The alarm started going off, Tommy stuck in the cell. Stuck with Dream. This was like fucking Exile, but Tommy was trapped in a small box instead of a beach.
"Sam! Let me out!" Tommy screamed. He screamed until his throat burned and he couldn't scream anymore.
"Tommy. Doesn't it hurt, knowing I have all the power? I could kill you, I decide if you live or die. And then I could revive you!"
"Fuck you, the Book is fake and you know it. You would never kill me."
"Do you want to test that?" Dream asked.
"Leave me alone."
"Tommy, I am your only friend. Where is Sam, eh? He will leave you to rot."
"Liar! Dream, you are a mother fucking bitch that thinks he can revive people. Or maybe just tries to spew shit so he lives!"
"No. The book is real." At that, Dream stands, taking a potato and beating Tommy. "And I will prove it."
Tommy loses his struggle to run. He loses his struggle to stay concious. And he loses his struggle for life. A message on everyone's com says the words that devestate everyone.
Tommyinnit has been slain by Dream.
And that was it. People sobbed, cried, begged Dream to revive Tommy. It failed. Dream killed Tommy, and he was never coming back.
Or was he?
Tommy woke up to a bright sun. He was in the middle of the forest. Dream was gone. Was this death? Maybe he would see Wilbur. Maybe he would live happy. Maybe death was peaceful. Tommy pushed himself off the ground. He felt something on his back, something Dream stole from him. His wings. He could feel his wings under his shirt.
"Holy shit. I can fly again!"
He didn't know how, but he could fly again! He was free. Once he chopped holes in his shirt for his wings, he was free. Then he heard it.
"Help!" A voice Tommy didn't recognize yelled. "Someone help me!"
Tommy went for a closer look, not revealing himself yet. Who knew if the person screaming was being killed by someone who wanted to hurt Tommy? He crouched by the bushes. He saw someone chasing the kid. Then he disappeared into the forest.
Tommy followed cautiously, ready to flee if someone saw him. "What happened?" A blonde kid said.
"Someone chased me. He was screaming that I did it, it was all my fault, whatever that means." The tall kid who looked a bit like Ranboo said. The blonde reminded himself of what he looked like. Before Exile. Before shit went down.
Another kid broke the tree line, screaming and running at the tall brunette.
"It was your fault! You did this to us, Thomas!" The kid yelled.
The blonde shouted "Alby! I think he got stung!" and a dark skinned guy came out to them.
"Ben. Show me your arm." Alby said.
"No! Thomas did it! He did this to us!" Ben shrieked.
"Newt, get Thomas somewhere else so I can deal with him." Alby said. The blonde and the brunette walked away. The blonde sent a quick glance back at Alby.
"I'll go, but there's gonna be a shuckin' meeting 'bout all of this. That wasn't a normal stingin', Alby. He knew the Greenie. That ain't shuckin' normal." The blonde shot a look that Tommy didn't understand.
"Okay, just take Thomas and go." Alby said. "I'm gonna get ready to banish this one."
Tommy trailed Alby until he stepped on a branch. It snapped loudly. Alby's head shot up, looking around. He threw Ben to the ground.
"Who's there?" Alby said. He started searching the bushes. There was a moving creature behind the fern. Alby let go of Ben and dashed behind the fern. Tommy immediately tried to run, taking off fast until his foot got stuck on a branch.
"Don't hurt me, please, I don't wanna die today!" Tommy screamed. Alby got the message.
"Don't worry, why were you back here?"
"I spawned in here, I thought I could see Wilby again, Dream ended it, he beat me to death with a fucking potato! So why is Wilby not here!"
"You remember?" Alby said, helping Tommy stand. "You remember what happened?" And Tommy looked at him, wanting to know how the fuck he got sympathy from a kid who never saw him before.
"So are ya gonna kill me? I'm a stranger, after all."
"Now why would I do that?" Alby said. "What's your name?"
"It's Tommyinnit. What's this place?"
"We call it the Glade." Alby said. He looked at the giant walls. He swore it looked like what Red described during his visit to Lifesteal.
"So are you the outsiders or what? Is Redd here? I could've sworn he said he was trapped in a clearing with the creatures roaming a maze at night."
They heard something from the bushes as a man stood up. His features were decidedly not hidden, horns in full view for everyone.
"Tommyinnit? What are you doing here?" Redd said, looking around. Visual confusion flickered across his face.
"I dunno but this is the fuckin' Outsiders SMP, right? So Apo is dead, mauled by your Griever creatures?" Tommy fluffed his feathers, hidden by his shirt but there nonetheless.
"They are nameless. Who told you that they were Grievers?" Redd said in confusion. Redd did not remember Grievers being a thing.
"Ya told me that the creatures were occasionally called Grievers and that is way better than calling them creatures."
"Uh. Yeah, they are called grievers. How do you know?" Alby asked.
"Fuck, then is this a Clearing? I didn't know there were other Clearings aside from ours, and the guys here don't look like Apo or anyone I know. I escaped once, we all did, so I can escape again." Redd said, determination sparking in his eyes.
"How did you leave last time?" Alby asked, wondering if they could get out.
"Just scout out the maze, find an exit that way. Should be easier this time because I think Tommy is an avian. Canary hybrid, to be exact. He can be the scout." Redd explained, coming up with a plan on the spot just like the rest of the Lifestealers.
Tommy stretched his wings, tilting them and flapping them.
"Phil never taught me to fly. I can't fly, so I can't scout. I would just be a burden, an extra mouth to feed." Tommy said, saddened.
Redd put a hand on Tommy's shoulder. "Listen. You can, Parrot self taught himself with the help of us so you can too. I kind of know where to start. Plus, while you train, I can scavenge for materials. Then we can see if the way out is close enough to this Clearing or the Outsiders Clearing."
