Work Text:
"Martin, she's trouble."
My father's words anger me. What does he know about Samantha that I don't? And do I care?
"I'm the Deputy Director. I'm well aware of which agents are red flags, Martin. And Agent Spade is one. I don't want you getting mixed up in her games."
I don’t say it aloud because I know my words can’t possibly penetrate my father’s thick skull, but… Samantha? A red flag? I know Jack had an affair with her a couple years ago, but why does that place her on the black list and not him? He was and still is her superior.
My father continues as if I’d actually listen to his advice. "The buzz around you is good, son, don't spoil it."
I know my father is only out to protect his reputation, the Fitzgerald name. If being with Samantha ruins my chances at climbing the ladder of hierarchy in the Bureau, so be it. That's a risk I'm willing to take.
I glare at my father and angrily leave his office without saying a word.
