“We should leave our lovers
And be with one another”
Zuko’s eyes trailed over Aang’s face, his right hand gently cupping Aang’s cheek while his thumb lightly caressed him.
I love him, those three words kept repeating in his mind. Zuko couldn’t deny the claim, as he knew for certain that the phrase is true.
Possibly, the truest thing that he has ever thought.
“Run your fingers through my hair
And hide under my covers”
Aang stared in fascination at Zuko, how could one be so beautiful?
He faintly thought this as his eyes trailed across Zuko’s skin, becoming mesmerized at everything he saw.
The scar, the golden eyes, the peaceful look that graced his royal face.
Aang’s hands tightened in Zuko’s hair and he let out a breathy gasp once Zuko’s caressing reached his lips.
“We should leave our lovers
We should run after each other”
It was stuffy in the room, and the silk sheets stuck to their sweaty body’s.
Zuko didn’t care about this, as he only cared about the young man in his arms.
But the young man didn’t belong to him, his heart may, but nothing else — and soon, that won’t even be his.
These thoughts saddened him, and he wanted nothing more than to turn away and cry. But he couldn’t do that, especially to Aang. So instead, he dropped his hand from the Avatars face and closed his eyes.
Allowing the smell of their previous love making to assault his senses.
“We can share our secrets
'Till they swallow one another”
Aang knew something was wrong when clouds seemed to gloss over Zuko’s beautiful eyes, and when his lover removed his hand it reinforced this fact.
Aang copied Zuko’s action from before, and cupped his face in his hands.
Aang’s thumbs grazed the Fire Lords cheeks, and he tilted his face to kiss him.
Aang sighed against his lips, and whispered “I love you,” to him.
“We should leave our lovers
We should, we should leave our lovers”
It wasn’t enough. It should have been, but it never is.
No matter that Aang loves him, it doesn’t change the fact that he doesn’t want to be with him forever.
Zuko is tired of their affair. He is tired of sneaking behind their friends backs, he is tired of watching Aang leave him for his fiancé, only to come back the next night.
Zuko is tired of pretending to be in love with Mai, he’s in love with Aang and yet he can’t be with him.
He’s tired of feeling like he should be ashamed that he shares his bed with another man. No matter that that man is making him keep it a secret and that he is in a relationship with someone else, no matter that he could possibly lose his crown. And no matter that they both have to produce an heir.
“But you'll never leave your lover, no
You'll never leave your lover”
He just wants to be with Aang — married to him, and have him rule by his side.
Tears started to fall from his closed eyes.
What they have, it’s just not enough. For neither of them.
“We should leave our lovers
We should, we should leave our lovers”
Aang loves Katara, yet he’s also in love with Zuko.
It was a disastrous occurrence and he felt torn, that was before him and Zuko first slept together.
And then, everything seemed to fall in place. He could still marry Katara, he could still produce heirs — and he could still be with Zuko, although it be privately and only they would know.
It was enough for Aang and he was happy.
“I need you like no other, no
I'll never find another, no”
Zuko felt used, and ashamed.
Not only are they cheating on two marvelous women, but they both have a duty to their people and their world.
But Zuko would give up everything just for Aang to be his.
His throne, his crown, his country.
In the end, does any of it even matter if the person you love isn’t by your side?
“Leave me in the silence
I'll let you cut me open”
Aang felt the tears before he saw them.
He sat up in Zuko’s bed worriedly, his elbow propping himself up as he gazed down at his lover with concern in his silver eyes.
Aang left his left hand cupping Zuko’s left cheek, still gently rubbing his thumb across the edge of the scar.
“Help me from the inside out
Slow motion”
“Are you alright?” He asked him with a frown and his brows furrowed together in concern.
Zuko shook his head no.
“I feel you in my blood, baby
Bring your body closer”
Zuko has confessed many times to Aang that he’s in love with him, and has hinted about the same amount that they should become exclusive.
But the monk merely shrugged the notion off, saying that they can’t, that Zuko knows they can’t.
After all, they both have to produce an heir, don’t they?
And when he asked him if he was alright, it was like a damn broke lose. Because, no, Zuko is not alright.
“Love me with your sad eyes
Drain me of my color”
“What-“ his lover broke out as he started to sob, Aang’s heart clenched painfully watching Zuko cry. Something so beautiful, should not feel such pain.
“What’s the point of this?” Zuko cried, his eyes tightening as he tried to keep the tears at bay but failing miserably.
Aang wanted nothing more but to pull the Fire Lord close to him, however, he knew that that response would not be accepted as of yet.
“We should leave our lovers
We should, we should leave our lovers”
“What’s the point of us?” He continued asking Aang, whom became speechless at Zuko’s further inquiries.
“Yes, we love each other, but what’s the point of that if we’re not going to be together?” He started to cry harder. His sobs were loud and ugly and tore through Aang.
“But you'll never leave your lover, no
You'll never leave your lover”
Aang eventually understood what upset Zuko, but he didn’t know what to say as all of his answers would only further upset the fire bender.
But he knows that he must say something, anything, before this situation gets worse.
“We should leave our lovers
We should, we should leave our lovers”
“Zuko. . .” His love started out hesitantly and Zuko immediately knew what was to come — he started to cry harder.
He was never good with rejection, and especially from someone that means the world to him.
“I need you like no other, no
I'll never find another, no”
“You know that I love you, Zuko. . .” Aang started out hesitantly as more tears started to fall from the fire bender and his crying became more pronounced.
Zuko suddenly sat up and swung his legs over the edge of the large bed. He didn’t want Aang to see him cry more than what he already has. His face fell into his hands as shame seeped through his veins, why is he always so weak? Broken, muffled sobs escaped from his hands.
Aang timidly laid a hand on Zuko’s bare shoulder,
“Isn’t that enough?”
“You'll never leave your lover, no
You'll never leave your lover”
“I need you like no other, no
I'll never find another”
“I need you like no other, no
I need you like no other, no”
“I need you like no other, no
I'll never find another”
“We should leave our lovers
We should, we should leave our lovers”
“But you'll never leave your lover, no
You'll never leave your lover”
“We should leave our lovers
We should, we should leave our lovers”
“I need you like no other, no
I'll never find another, no”
“We should leave our lovers
So then we can choose each other”
