Legends Interlude: The Way Home

Summary:

The time has come. Jinx finally gets to go home.

Work Text:

A lone figure staggered to the top of the Temple of Sinnoh. The tone from the Azure Flute cuts through the still air.

A glowing staircase appears in front of the teen. At the top lies Arceus. An intense battle ensues, Jinx is victorious. Arceus offers her a boon for her efforts.

“Home. I want to go home” The words nearly get caught in her throat as she struggles to speak. She hasn’t spoken in weeks, possibly months. She hadn’t kept track.

“As you wish”

The space and time warped around the teen.

When the rolling finally settled, Jinx picked herself up. Looking around she found herself still at the ruins of the Temple of Sinnoh. Her head was pounding.

She made her way through the caves. A trainer came up to her. She was dressed strangely. Like she had before coming to Hisui. “Hey, are you ok?”

Simple concern. Jinx didn’t know how to react. She really was home. The world around her blurred. Why was she tearing up? It was too much. The words were clogging her throat. Jinx shook her head.
“Ok…ok, how about we head to the Pokemon Center” The hiker grabs Jinx’s hand and the pair make their way down Mt. Coronet. Jinx barely registers the travel, everything is blurry and familiar and not right.

A blink and a pair of doors slid open, cool air hits her face. The hiker, Jinx never got her name, sets her down in a chair. The hushed conversation she had with the Pesselle look alike was inaudible.

She wasn’t sure how long the pair waited but Hazel, the hiker, said Nurse Joy had contacted the police. Jinx had a vague idea of what that was.

Two men in uniforms eventually arrived and took Hazel’s statement. They tried to talk to her but the words wouldn’t come out. One of them seems to recognize her, taking his partner off to the side. The walls are too confining. She needs to get out. Pointing to the door Jinx headed outside and sat down.

An unknown amount of time passed. Three figures come running up. Jinx see’s Rei? Kamado? When did he get so old?. KAMADO!!!!!

“JINX!!”

She panics. Frozen.

A massive Garchomp emerges, roaring at them, while protectively stands between Jinx and the strangers.
“WOAH!!! Jinx! Call it off!”

The police ran out at the noise. “Call it off!” The officers ordered.

Eventually everyone was calmed down. Saturn was returned to her ball but Jupiter took her place. Jupiter was being held close, Jinx refused to be alone around Professor Rowan. Too many bad memories.

Barry and Lucas looked so sad when she didn’t recognize them. They were familiar, the memories themselves were blurry. Just out of reach.

She apparently had been missing for just over a year. Or so Lucas told her. They ended up going to Twin Leaf Town. The woman at the door burst into tears and hugged her.

Auntie Johanna? Jinx breaks down crying as well. Why was she apologizing? It wasn’t her fault.

The next week is a blur. Getting the case settled and verifying her identity took time. Though the meeting with Champion Cynthia was catastrophic.

Jinx did enjoy reuniting with her Sinnoh team. She held no long term interest with the boys. They were nice, but cautious. It probably had to do with the giant and very protective team she had built in Hisui.

Sinnoh wasn’t home. She wanted to go home.

Auntie Johanna was working with her mom to arrange the trip to Alola. The plane ride itself was nerve racking.

But once they landed at the airstrip, seeing the woman waiting for her. Jinx could barely wait to disembark and launch herself into her mother’s arms and breakdown. Home. This was home.

Mom was crying too. And holding on just as tightly.

---

Readjusting to modern life took a toll on her. Jinx knew this. Mom made her speak to a therapist on a regular basis. It was exhausting. Her words still hadn’t returned. Text to speech apps were a godsend.

Slowly but surely her memories regained focus. Her teams and Hau were a huge help. Without Hau badgering her into battles and just getting out of the house and away from Poke Pelago, Jinx was sure she’d become a hermit.

Mom encouraged her to call the other people she traveled with. Shawna was…enthusiastic. To say the least. Apparently all of her rivals made a group chat to coordinate their personal searches for her. Jinx was touched. It made her heart ache, maybe these people were good. Not everyone. Kamado made sure of that. Jinx knew who she could trust.

Jinx also was relearning her teams. The Pokemon themselves were eager to see her again. Trying to appease them all was an endeavor all on its own. Nine full teams, fifty four Pokemon. All with their own needs. Her Hisui team was a topic of debate within the scientific community.

A professor in Paldea was curious about the implications of her time traveling with her Pokemon.

Paldea. The last region for her to explore. She didn’t want to go. She wanted to stay home. Leaving could mean disaster.

The itch most likely won’t let her. Just one more region. Then that's it. No more. Just staying in Alola and being Champion. That's it.
