Chapter Text

Six Months.

That’s how long it had been since The New Order of the Stone had saved the world from the world eating monster they had called The WitherStorm. Six months since six young adults had set off on an adventure that changed their lives.

There was Axel.

A griefer to his core but the biggest softie one is to meet.

Olivia.

The most revolutionary redstone engineer and Ellegaard’s protege.

Lukas.

Architect genius and expert craftsman.

Petra.

Highest skilled swordswoman in the land.

Reuben.

The bravest pig that ever lived, who died saving the world and Jessie’s best friend.

And of course there was Jessie.

Leader of the New Order of the Stone.

The most celebrated heroes since the Old Order of the Stone.

Of course they were.

Given how Gabriel told everyone the truth, word traveled fast throughout the map. A small part of Jessie made her feel bad about allowing Gabriel to reveal the truth to the world, but if there was something she hated was lying. Twenty years of the Order’s falsified lie was more than enough and she believed everyone should know. Her friends thankfully had no protest against her decision.

Now the new heroes ventured into the great unknown, in search of treasures and facing unknown dangers! Well…minus Reuben and Lukas. Lukas was off doing who knows what with his own friends and Reuben’s porkchop was left at their temple along with other treasures they had collected

Thanks to the help of Ivor, the New Order of the Stone had been exploring and finding new treasures all over the world. Never did the friends think they would all have the courage to do stuff like this but here they were.

On one of Ivor’s tales of a mysterious temple in the middle of the jungle. Said to be there for years but no one could pinpoint its location. But, after much searching, the New Order of the Stone had finally tracked its location.

Jessie grinned as she ran, splitting up from her friends, towards the temple. From a distance she could see that the temple was already one if not the largest temple they had encountered. She could also see that between her and the temple stood a large horde of mobs.

Easy . She thought confidently. She quickly ducked behind a tree and pulled out her newly enchanted sword. She grinned hearing the sounds of creepers and zombies approaching from the other side of the tree. Knowing her friends would soon catch up with her, she confidently came out from hiding and attacked the creepers.

Her new sword wasn’t as strong as the command block sword she had a few months ago but it was one of the most powerful swords she owned. She used it to quickly wipe out multiple creepers and zombies with a few easy swoops. If someone had told her a few months ago that she would be this good with her sword someday, she would have thought they were nuts!

“Look out!” She heard a cry. Jessie quickly turned around, spotting Petra leaping off a tree and attacked two skeletons that had their arrows set on Jessie. Petra quickly swiped at the skeletons, one of which flew towards Jessie. Jessie’s eyes widened, quickly swiping at it and taking it out.

Okay. Maybe she wasn’t that good yet.

“Thanks.” She sighed gratefully. Petra grinned in return.

“Hey Jessie!” They heard Axel call out. “Check this out!” The two women turned towards him, seeing he had two zombies currently in a headlock under his arms. “1…2…3…POP!” He squeezed making them pop off in a puff of smoke. Unlike his friends, Axel was never known to like using weapons. He was more of a TNT or using your fists kind of guy. “You could try it too y’know!” He suggests.

“Watch out!” Jessie called out as much she ran to him. Axel glanced behind him, seeing a sneaky zombie coming up behind him. Having no time to react he ducked as Jessie jumped behind him and quickly wiped it out.

“Dude!” Axel looked at her. “You’re getting pretty good at this!” He held his hand up confidently. Jessie grinned back high fiving him.

“You guys are working way too hard!” Olivia called out to them. The group all turned towards her, seeing that she had quickly set up a redstone machine of dispensers as more mobs quickly approached them. Confidently, she hit the machine, sending dozens of flying arrows towards the remaining mobs.

“You’re always looking to one up us, aren’t you?” Jessie grinned, shaking her head. Without looking, Jessie could feel the breath of a zombie behind her. Flipping her sword backwards she stabbed right through it easily. Heck yeah! Point for her.

With a satisfied grin she pocketed her sword back into her inventory and turned to the temple before them. Yup. Definitely the biggest temple they had encountered.

“That is one seriously cool temple.” She admired.

“Yeah. Points for Ivor I guess.” Petra agreed. “This was a good tip.”

“Well Jessie?” Olivia walked up behind her.

“Are we doing this or what?” Axel asked.

“I think Jessie’s just taking it all in.” Olivia grinned. Jessie smiled, glancing back at her friends. They were all so very enthusiastic about getting his adventure going and who could blame them? So was she.

“Order of the Stone? Let’s get some treasure!” Jessie exclaimed running ahead.

“Treasure!” Her friends cheered running after her.

Entering the temple, the group found themselves in what seemed to be a puzzle room. The walls were adorned with stone, quartz, lava and levers. Jessie raised a brow seeing that some pistons kept the lava from flowing down.

“So much for treasure.” She heard Petra complain. “This place is bare!”

“Oh come on.” Jessie rolled her eyes. “You know how these types of places work. Let’s just spread out and try to figure this out okay?”

“Fine.” Petra sighed walking over to a lever in the center.

Jessie raised a brow spotting some pistons beside her and a lever beneath them. Jessie was usually really good at puzzles. Typically able to solve the puzzles on her own when they came across them on their adventures. This one was no different. All three walls were exactly alike with two pistons blocking the lava flow and levers that she assumed were to unblock the lava and they all seemed to be leading to the same place.

“Looks like these all connect to the center of the room.” She pointed out loud. Olivia and Petra were the only ones who paid any mind to her. “There are three levers. Either there’s a pattern or we must flip them at the same time.”

“We could try flipping them all at once.” Petra suggested.

“What if it blows up?” Olivia asked.

“That wouldn’t be a bad thing would it?” Axel grinned, reaching for one of the levers before Olivia swatted his hand away.

“We could.” Jessie pondered. She looked towards the lever closest to her, thinking for a second if she should trigger it or not.

“Are you going to pull it?” Axel asked, making Jessie glance at him for a second before looking back at the wall, spotting a white block. How did she miss that? “Quartz. Of course.”

“Ah, your vital enemy.” Petrajoked.

“I still don’t understand why you don’t like quartz. It's just a block.” Olivia added.

“It’s useless.” Jessie rolled her eyes. “Perhaps they mean something.” Jessie turned to them, looking around.

“There’s more quartz over here.” Axel stood by the third lever. It had four quartz blocks next to the lever. Jessie looked at the first one again seeing only one and the second lever had two.

“Okay we have one, two, and four.” Jessie pondered. “Where’s three?”

“Over here.” Petra pointed to the three blocks on the other side of the same wall as one.

“Looks like we found our pattern.” Jessie grinned before flipping the first lever. Like she thought, flipping the first lever triggered the pistons above them and opened a path for the lava and made it flow to the center of the room. “That’s a start.” She grinned, turning to look at the other levers. Knowing she knew how to handle the puzzle herself, she noticed her friends had gone off to look around the temple…well at least Olivia. Jessie could only assume the thoughts running through the engineer’s mind, trying to figure out how the puzzle worked. Axel only sat by her fiddling with the stone on the ground, enjoying the downtime they had. Petra was sitting by the second lever, polishing her gold sword that she now called “Miss Butter”, also enjoying the quiet time.

“Hey Petra.” Jessie greeted, walking over to her.

“Hey Jessie.” Petra greeted, looking up from her sword. “What’s up?”

“Oh you know, just checking up on you.” Jessie gestured to her arm. “How are you feeling lately?”

“Wither-sickness free.” Petra assured. “At least I think so.” Petra lifted up her sleeve. Despite not feeling sick anymore Petra, along with some other survivors, had earned a scar that ran up their arms. Doctors had taken a look at it and confirmed it was nothing deadly of the sorts. Just an unfortunate physical scar the wither left behind for them. “Now I’m still getting used to having teammates and people who worry about me.” She joked. “It’s nice though.” She shrugged.

“We always worried about you.” Jessie placed her hands on her hips.

“Yeah but no need to fuss over me.” She smiled with a roll of her eyes, making the two women chuckle.

“This is such a cool temple.” Jessie commented looking over to the lever. “I wonder how Ivor knew about it.”

“Well, the old man has read a lot of books. I’m sure he knows more than he lets on.” Petra ran a cloth down her sword. “He probably even knows what’s inside.”

“Oh I’m sure he does.” Jessie looked at her again. “But he didn’t say. ‘It’s part of the adventure’ he claimed.” Jessie sighed, walked over to the lever and flipped it. Just as before the lever being pulled deactivated the pistons above them and allowed the lava to flow to the center. Only this time, the first lever activated again and stopped the first lava flow. “Okay, this one was number two. I’m assuming the three quartz blocks mean that I have to pull the first lever again before I go to number four.”

“Good luck.” Petra grinned. Jessie smiled back before making her way back to the first lever, deactivating it like before.

“Now we’re getting somewhere.” She grinned. Deactivating the first lever for the second time had allowed the second lever to stay deactivated and making it so that both levers were now flowing lava into the center. Now she just needed number four, which she quickly rushed over to. Very quickly after lava started flowing, the group felt the ground shake beneath them as a giant trap door tore open the floor and revealed the lava overflow that Jessie activated. Surrounding the lava was a spiral of stairs that led down below, so far they couldn’t see what they were walking into.

“I think I actually would've been disappointed if the floor didn’t open up into a dark, creepy passageway.” Axel commented as Jessie took the lead down the stairs.

“This is kind of when we first discovered the Order’s Temple.” Petra comments as they continue downward. The lava flow being their only source of light. “We were a bunch of scared noobs.”

“Hey I wasn’t scared.” Axel protested.

“Oh yeah?” Petra glanced at him. “Then who was the one screaming like a terrified goat?”

“That wasn’t me.” Axel blushed in embarrassment.

“Hehe, yeah we were all totally unprepared.” Jessie chuckled nervously. “It’s crazy we didn’t die there.”

“And to think, that was just the beginning.” Olivia spoke proudly.

“Yeah! And that was all before we fought Witherstorms, hung out with the Order.” Axel added. Jessie tuned out Axel’s ramblings about the adventures they have had for the past couple of months. She was more focused on finding the end of these stairs and hopefully no surprise mobs came at them as they continued walking down.

“Bingo!” She suddenly exclaimed, interrupting her friends’ conversation behind her. They had finally reached the bottom and wouldn’t you know it, four chests stood before them. The four friends looked at one another with a grin before racing towards a chest and claiming one as their own. “Alright, let’s see what we got!” She grinned, opening her chest. “Hey, it's a cake!” She exclaimed. Man did she love cake!

“Oh man! That reminds of that one time you got cake from the Witch’s hut and I was super jealous of you guys.” Axel looked up from his chest.

“Right? Cake is the best!” Jessie grinned. “Totally my favorite…or top three at least.”

“You have discerning tastes Jessie, I respect that.” Axel nodded. Jessie raised a brow, unsure what her friend meant by that but brushed it off.

“Hmm, a pumpkin. Not bad. Will be useful if we run into some endermen” She commented to herself as she continued digging through. “And looks like we got one more thing in here.” Jessie, as short as she was, had to really lean into the chest to reach the final item at the bottom of the chest. Her friends looked up from their chests, seeing that her chest was leaning down towards her as half her body nearly disappeared into the chest. Finally, after a bit more struggle, the young woman finally got a hold of the final item and it was…flint and steel? Jessie raised a brow, walking away from her chest and towards her curious friends.

“Woah!” Axel exclaimed.

“I’ve never seen flint and steel like that before.” Olivia added. Olivia was right. Jessie didn’t think any of them had ever seen one like this in fact.

“I’ll be honest with you Olivia, I have no idea what this is or what it does.” Jessie stared at the glowing item in her hands. It shined a purple glow back at her face and she could see her own reflection on the steel.

“I do! Burn stuff right?” Axel asked.

“But it must do something besides that right?” Jessie asked. “I’ve seen people put unbreaking but this isn’t unbreaking. It’s different.”

“You could give it a shot and find out?” Petra suggests. Hearing no protest with the suggestion, Jessie took a deep breath and knelt down to the ground.

“Okay, flint and steel. Do your thing.” And with that Jessie struck her flint and steel together, sending a bright light through the large room with a single spark and mini quake. “Well, I have definitely never seen a flint and steel do that before.”

“We got company.” Petra called out. The four friends took a look around seeing that igniting the flint and steel had caught the attention of unwanted mobs below. They should have guessed mobs spawned down there. It was pitch black! The four of them quickly made a run towards the staircase, hoping the mobs hadn’t reached the bottom of them. No such luck.

“Looks like some monsters have a death wish.” Jessie pocketed her new treasure and replaced it with her sword. They knew they had a chance against these monsters but considering they were underground, who knew how far out mobs were coming from.

“So what’s the plan?” Axel asked. “If you ask me, it seems like a good time for a ‘secret handshake’!” He suggested.

“Right!” Olivia agreed. “So let’s use the ‘Redstone Rap’!” She suggests.

“What?! No!” Axel disagreed. “We need the ‘Griefer Grab’!”

“That’s it!” Jessie exclaimed.

“It is?!” Axel and Olivia exclaimed.

“No! Not that!” Jessie looked at Petra. “Petra! Warrior Whip!” Axel and Olivia had never seen Petra’s face light up so fast, nor had they ever heard of the ‘Warrior Whip’ before but what they witnessed next was a move that they were definitely going to steal someday.

“Okay Jessie, just like we practiced!” Petra tried to explain but unfortunately for her Jessie wasn’t hearing her and was quick to grab hold of her hands before spinning her a few times and sending a tornado flipping Petra towards the mobs blocking their path. Petra reacted quickly by slicing through the horde of zombies and the two women struck a pose at the bottom of the now mob free staircase.

“Woah! Way to go you two!” Olivia exclaimed.

“That was awesome!” Axel added with excitement.

“Alright let’s go!” Jessie exclaimed and the four of them quickly made a race up the stairs to escape the mobs behind them. Unfortunately for them, more mobs seemed to be coming from the walls. It was never easy, was it?

Chapter Text

“That was freaking amazing! Why is no one else freaking out?!” Axel shouted as they all climbed the vines.

“Freak out on the inside, Axel!” Petra climbed right below him. “We got to move!” Axel couldn’t help but be excited as he and the group had just witnessed Jessie throw her sword towards the now closing entrance, successfully wedging the sword in between and keeping it open just enough for them to fit and climb through. Admittedly, Jessie hadn’t thought that was going to work but Notch had mercy on her and granted them the opportunity to get out in time.

“Man this sword has become like my ‘lucky’ swoo-oh!” Jessie stated breathlessly as she tried to unwedge the sword, before quickly spotting a horde of cave spiders coming straight at her. She grabbed the hem of her sword with both of her hands and tugged on it with a grunt, attempting to get it out.

SPLAT!

“Woah!” She exclaimed as she fell back, sword in hand and the entrance of the floor now shut, crushing the spider on the other side.

“Come on dude, let’s get you out of here!” Axel finally came over, offering a hand to help her stand. Adrenaline ran through the group’s bodies as they quickly rushed out of the temple and into the open field from earlier.

“I tell you guys, doing that never gets old. Wooo!” Axel exclaimed breathlessly.

“Yeah, not too bad!” Petra agreed. “Killing a bunch of monsters, getting sweet treasure!”

“Like that sweet flint and steel thing!” Axel looked at Jessie, who had completely turned away from them and was inspecting the item once again. The mysterious enchantment intrigued her to find out what it did. It couldn’t just be for summoning mobs right? Maybe trying to light inside the temple was a trap she unintentionally set off. “You gotta try it again!” Axel exclaimed, finally catching her attention.

“I’d be curious to see it again, too!” Olivia agreed. “I’m dying to know how it works.”

“Way ahead of you on that one Axel.” Jessie grinned at her friends before walking over to a stump that sat alone away from the rest of the forest. Making sure that the stump was safe to not spread a wildfire, Jessie struck the flint and steel together and set it ablaze.

“Woah!” She and her friends exclaimed as the stump lit in a three block tall blue blaze. Wasn’t blue fire hotter than the red flaming one? She had only ever seen blue fire in the nether but not in the overworld.

“Well, well. Where did you get the new toy?” A new voice joined the group. Now, six months ago, Jessie would have rolled her eyes and gotten annoyed with the unwelcomed voice but of course, six months had a lot of changes. One of the biggest ones was that this voice belonged to none other than Aiden, Lukas’s best friend. And Lukas, well, her relationship with Lukas was different than it was six months ago. Despite that though, the friendships Lukas kept had no effect on how Jessie felt towards his dear best friend. She still grew annoyed with him but had a better control at hiding it.

“Looks a little sophisticated for you Jessie .” Aiden sneered as Jessie and her friends turned to look at him. He was leaning against the temple, before he made his way over to them with his sword twirling in his hand. The way he twirled his sword in his hand before putting it away and his tone, made Jessie feel uneasy. He was definitely here to cause them trouble…again.

“Order of the Losers!” Another voice joined. Jessie turned to her left, spotting two more of Lukas’s friends, Maya and Gill. Sometimes she couldn’t believe Lukas still called them his friends.

Ugh. Stupid, cute, blonde boy. How are these guys your friends? Jessie thought to herself.

“Yeah losers .” Gill echoed Maya’s taunt.

“Ugh, who let you guys out of your cave?” Olivia spat.

“Jokes on you, we don’t live in a cave.” Maya glared angrily.

“Would have fooled me. With that outfit? Geez.” Petra grinned, making Axel and Olivia snort out a laugh.

“Well if it isn’t Aiden and The Pussycats.” Jessie glared angrily, secretly thankful that Lukas wasn’t with either group at the moment.

“That’s not our name!” Gill spat.

“So what are you Ocelots doing here, anyway?” Olivia asked.

“The Ocelots were Lukas’s gang. We ditched that name just like we ditched him.” Aiden spat.

Sometimes Jessie wished she wasn’t as nice as she was. Hearing that they abandoned Lukas really angered her and made her want to punch a tooth off that sorry of an excuse that Aidan called a face. But of course, she wasn’t that type of person. In fact, despite her name-calling them moments ago, she much preferred to keep the peace between the groups instead. She had enough adventure for the night.

“Yeah, we rebranded! We’re the Blaze Rods now!” Maya grinned as she and Gill turned around to show off their new jackets.

“Blaze Rods!” Gill exclaimed.

“Shut up, Gill!” Aiden spat.

“Sorry boss.” Gill looked down defeated.

“Just don’t do it again.”

“Oh, that’s too bad. I always thought ‘Ocelots’ was way cooler.” Jessie shrugged. “The jackets looked cooler too.”

“That’s what I said!” Gill agreed.

“Shut up Gill!” Aiden spat again, making Gill step back next to Maya. Aiden turned to look at Jessie angrily once again. “So where’s Lukas huh?” He walked around them, looking for signs of the blond with them or if he was hiding by the temple. “The minute the Order decided you were cool-”

“For whatever reason.” Maya added with annoyance.

“He wouldn’t stop sniffing around you like a tamed dog.” Aiden turned to Jessie again. “Especially around you .”

“You take that back!” Petra spat angrily.

“Mmmm no.” Aiden rolled his eyes.

“Lukas is ten times the guy you ever will be.” She added.

“What is up with you creeps? I can’t believe Lukas wanted to risk his neck to go save you guys.” Jessie glared, angrily. “And you just abandoned him.”

“You probably think that thing makes you so special.” Aiden shook his head, ignoring her comment and instead focused on the flint and steel in her hands. “Classic Jessie. You take all the best stuff and never give anyone else a chance!” He snarled pointed to the flint and steel. “ That should’ve been ours!”

“Oh yea?” Axel joined in.

“Yeah!” Maya glared. Jessie rolled her eyes again, putting the flint and steel in her pockets.

“Blaze rods!” Gill repeated.

“Hey, we earned this, alright!” Jessie glared. “We explore just like everyone else. Fair and square!”

“Yeah, we fought monsters, lava, and levers to get this thing, and we ain’t giving it up!” Axel exclaimed.

“Nothing you’ve ever done has been ‘fair and square’ , Jessie.” Aiden spat, completely focused on her. Jessie could see that Aiden was getting more and more fed that she wasn’t complying to his demands. It wouldn’t be the first time he grew angry about that but never before did she think he would pull out his sword and aim it straight at her. If he stood any closer the tip of his sword would be mere inches from her face. Maya and Gil were quick to follow his lead and aim their own swords at her friends as well. “Hand over the flint and steel Jessie. Don’t make me ask again.” He growled, further waving his sword at her. “You don’t get that one. It’s supposed to be mine !”

“You better back off, Aiden.” Jessie growled back, ignoring his sword and staring straight at him. “Getting this was no cakewalk. Taking you down wouldn’t be any trouble at all.”

“Big talk. Gonna back that up?” Aiden grinned, seemingly unconvinced by her statement.

“I’m tired of listening to your jaw flap!” Axel looked at him angrily before running towards Aiden. Thankfully, as Jessie expected,, Aiden seemed to be all bark and no bite as he didn’t use his sword to defend himself. Instead Aiden opted to kicking Axel in the groin, sending the big guy stumbling back to his group.

“Don’t you touch me!” Aiden growled, angrily. Seeing as Aiden wasn’t going to back down, even to a big guy like Axel, Jessie grew fed up with him and pulled out her own sword. Petra and Olivia followed her lead and took out their weapons as well. Maya and Gill gasped in shock of the weapons the heroes carried. Sure they had their own enchanted weapons but the Orders’ seemed…well more powerful.

“Some hero you are, Jessie.” Aiden sneered seeing their enchanted weapons.

“Don’t start something you can’t finish , Aiden.” Jessie spat with venom in her tone. “I’ve taken on way bigger threats than you.” Aiden glared at her before looking at the rest of the group. It was three against four. And given how the Orders’ weapons shone, Aiden knew he didn’t have an advantage here.

“Fine.” He growled, finally ceasing to put away his sword. Followed by everyone else as well. The Order keeping their guards up as they glared at Aiden and his friends. “What hope do we have when ‘heroes’ like you are throwing your weight around like this? It’s not always going to be this way, though.” He declared before turning to his friends. “Come on, you guys. Let’s get out of here.”

“Blaze rods!” Gill exclaimed towards the Order.

“I told you to shut up!” Aiden shoved Gill again. Gill frowned, walking at a quicker pace to catch up with Maya. “Look out Jessie.” Aiden sneered at her before the group disappeared into the woods once again.

“What was that about?” Axel asked, looking at Jessie.

“I don’t remember him being that angry before.” Olivia added with some concern in her tone.

“Yeah. I’m officially starting to get a bad feeling about Aiden.” Jessie agreed. This wasn’t like Aiden at all. “Sure he’s annoying and a bully but he’s never threatened anyone. Especially not with an enchanted weapon.” Jessie sighed. “I hope he doesn’t hurt anyone.”

“Yeah. We need to keep an eye out.” Petra agreed.

“Man, and all because he wanted that flint and steel.” Axel frowned. “What are you going to do with it?”

“Ivor’s the one that told us about this temple. He might know something about it.” Petra suggested.

“First things first, we’re taking it home and placing it somewhere safe. Then we can ask Ivor more about it.” Jessie sighed, turning back to the forest’s path. “Let’s go, with luck we’ll be there by sunrise.” Her friends quickly followed after her, all the while keeping their guard up in case Aiden decided he changed his mind and wanted to take them on.

Chapter Text

“It feels nice to recognize things again.” Axel commented, taking a deep breath of fresh air.

Jessie couldn’t help but quietly agree as she took a look at the path they walked. The sun rose beautifully over the mountains that surrounded the stone brick path they walked. The stone brick path led to the grand entrance to the newly under construction town that she herself had designed. The Order and the town’s people had put a great effort into building it, along with the large wall that surrounded it to protect themselves from mobs. She was quite proud of it.

“Cheers to that.” Petra agreed, taking a sip of her water.

“I still can’t get out of my head what Aiden was saying about us last night.” Olivia frowned. By the look of her expression they could see that it upset her. “Maybe we do get a lot of treasure and sometimes we do throw our weight around.”

“What?” Axel exclaimed. “Nah! Aiden is just jealous. Plain and simple.” Axel shrugged his shoulders.

“I don’t know.” Olivia looked at him with uncertainty.

“Well, I guess we do always try to get all the best treasure.” Jessie sighed in agreement.

“Yeah, but that just means we have great taste , not that we’re like bullies or something.” Axel defended. Jessie didn’t look back at her friends as the doors of the town opened before them, allowing them to go in and safely close behind them. They were more focused on their conversation to notice that the town was quiet. There were some people walking around, others building and Reuben’s memorial was right at the entrance to greet them.

“Well, no matter what Aiden thinks, there’s one thing I know.” Petra removed her helmet, her hair falling out dramatically to a mess of helmet hair.

“What’s that?” Jessie turned to her, hands on her hip.

They think we’re awesome!” Petra pointed to a pair of teens who were suddenly aware of the heroes presence.

“They’re back!” The teenage boy shouted excitedly. “You guys, they’re back!”

“RUN!” The girl turned to him. “Tell everyone our heroes have returned!” She exclaimed.

This. This was something Jessie knew she would never get used to. As much as she loved helping people, the sudden attention she and her friends got by hundreds of people overwhelmed her. Don’t get her wrong, while it was nice it was also stressful sometimes. She could hear the young teen boy shout from the top of his lungs to the houses nearby. Sounds of doors opening and people cheering echoed through the once quiet town, followed by the sounds of people running through the streets to greet them.

“Yup! New Order of the Stone is back in town!” Axel announced removing his helmet with a grin.

Jessie raised a brow at him before looking at the crowd before her and making her way through them. As overwhelming as the crowd felt, the feeling of relief about seeing these people alive made her feel better. Six months ago all these people were inside a storm that no one knew if they would ever put a stop to it. It was crazier to think that the story told that they had a small part in creating said storm and yet people forgave them. Most of the map did anyway and she was forever grateful for that.

“Aaaah! There they are!” She smiled, hearing a fan cheer.

“Oooh, oooh! I like Olivia’s armor the best! Uh, wait, no, no, no, Axel’s” Shouted another.

“Jessie, you’re the coolest!” Jessie smiled recognizing the voice as being the teenage girl from earlier. Jessie took a look at the crowd, seeing they were more than excited to see them. Some looked to be tired, probably from a day of building, but cheered for the heroes regardless.

“I love what you guys are doing with the town, everyone. It looks freaking awesome!” She turned to look at the tired ones as she spoke, making them cheer louder.

“Welcome baaaack!” The teenage girl from earlier walked up to Jessie, raising her hand for a high five. Jessie couldn’t just leave her hanging like that so she gave the young girl a high five. The girl squealed in delight before running back into the crowd to her friend. Jessie waved ‘bye’ to her before continuing her walk forward and failed to see the young girl faint from excitement.

“Aaaah!” The four friends suddenly stopped walking, hearing a not so cheerful scream. To their surprise the scream had come from a home nearby…at least they thought it was a home? It was a giant skull up top of tentacles holding it up and lava-fall coming down its mouth.

“That wasn’t a ‘happy to see us’ scream.” Olivia pointed out.

“Wow. That’s new.” Petra comments. “It somehow manages to evoke skulls and tentacles.”

“While still doing the whole ‘barfing lava’ thing. Eesh.” Oliva added.

“That thing looks completely dangerous!” Jessie pointed out.

“Not my fault!” They heard an all too familiar voice shout. The four friends looked at one another before running over to the dangerous build.

“Help!”

“Oh stop your whining!” They heard the resident shout. “What are your pathetic injuries in comparison to my majestic tower?”

“Ivor?” Jessie looked up at him in shock.

“Of course.” Petra rolled her eyes.

“Oh Jessica! You’re back!” Ivor grinned. “Don’t listen to a word these fools tell you!”

“It’s a fire hazard!” A woman turned to Jessie.

“And your face is an ugly hazard!” Ivor spat at her. “So I suppose we’re even.”

“Causing trouble again, Ivor?” Jessie placed her hands on her hips with a sigh.

“Nothing.” Ivor chuckled. “Just a little debate with the local community. Brain function is proving difficult for them.”

“You need to remove this now.” The woman told Jessie.

Oh boy.

“Jessica, all I wanted was what any man wants: a little house of my own…with loads of lava pouring off it!”

“Ivor, I know you mean well, but your ‘house’ wants to kill people.” Petra pointed to the lava.

“Dude, you made a killer house!” Axel comments with a grin.

“Exactly! Killer!” The woman shouted again. Jessie really wasn’t liking how much shouting the woman was doing. They were standing right there .

“What about just moving it someplace else. I’m sure-” Jessie thought

“Move it?” Ivor looked at her in shock. “Way more lava is going to spill out if we do that.” He pointed out. Jessie sighed looking down at the floor in thought.

“Well? We have to tear it down!” The same woman from before got her to look up again. Could Jessie go back to when the people were cheering for her instead of this woman looking at her angrily as if she were at fault? “We can’t let that monstrosity stand!” She shouted. Petra sent the woman a glare as Ivor jumped down and ran to Jessie. Jessie took a step back in shock before Ivor grabbed her by the shoulders.

“It’s my house, Jessica.” He pleaded. “I have just as much a right to build something as these people, don’t I?” He asked. “They’re just jealous that I’ve got vision while they’ve got, they’ve got…community planning. Bleh.”

Why is it always up to me? Jessie couldn’t help but think. Jessie weighed out her options of either decision. If she were to tell people to leave it alone, Ivor will have his house in place and have lava flowing down it. Though if she did consider that tearing it down would probably make the lava spread out too. Not to mention that it would leave him without a house for gosh knows how long and he’d probably move back into the temple…again.

“Ivor obviously put a lot of work into his new house, and we need to show it the same respect that we would show a house not..dripping with lava.” Jessie’s decision was met with a lot of dismay from the crowd, more specifically the older woman. “Leave it alone, okay? I’m sure we can work around it.”

“Long live my lava house! Long live lava! Thanks, Jessica!” ” Ivor hollered before turning to the displeased old woman. “That’s right. Keep walking! Keeeeep walking!” He mocked.

“Always nice to see a gracious winner.” Petra rolled her eyes.

“Haha.” Ivor laughed sarcastically before turning back to Jessie once again. “Haven’t seen you four around for a while. So what can I do for you?”

“We actually found something at that temple you told us about.” Jessie grinned, happy to have gotten that situation over with...

“What? You did? Hahaha.” He laughed in a rather sarcastic manner. “Yes, great to see you again. Let’s do lunch. I’ll bring the carrots.” He continued laughing before grabbing her by the shoulders and began to whisper. “There’s no telling who’s listening. Meet me in the Treasure Room. Ten Minutes. And bring the thing you found!” He exclaimed, shaking her whole body before taking off in the direction of the temple. Jessie’s eyes widened, frozen in place from the shock of his sudden mood change. Petra walked up behind her, patting her on the back, allowing the woman to snap out of the shock

“Well, if we’re going to keep the house up, we should at least make it safer..” Olivia suggested looking at the lava flowing.

“But not too safe, right?” Axel asked, a bit disappointed.

“Come on. Let's go collect some sand, and you can make sure it’s just the right amount of ‘ safe. ’ ” Olivia rolled her eyes slightly.

“Alright!” Axel stood following after her.

“We’ll catch up with you guys later.” Olivia turned to Petra and Jessie.

“Yeah. Once we make sure this art gets the respect it deserves.”

“Right. What he said.” Olivia shook her head.

“Nice. Work today, guys.” Jessie smiled at them.

“Yeah, not bad, right?” Axel agreed.

“Hmm, it’s like we should do this more often.” Olivia joked.

“Later, guys!” Petra waved at the pair before disappearing in between the crowd of people again.

“Come on. Let’s go find Ivor.” Jessie began walking towards the temple. Thankfully, the excitement of the heroes arriving home had worn off. There were a few fans that would wave at them, but not to the level that they had no less than twenty minutes ago. Petra and Jessie made it inside the temple, shutting the doors behind them and being greeted by the large hall in front of them.

Jessie smiled as they walked toward the treasure room, grateful that the temple layout was easy to navigate. It made living in it part-time much easier as the temple served as a nice place to crash when the team returned from their adventures. The only thing she didn’t like about it was that it was mostly built out of quartz blocks. She had voted to make the walls out of wool, but that would have taken too long to collect, and the test wall they did with it didn’t look very appealing. Quartz was much easier to collect. Risky? Sure, but much easier.

“This place is really shaping up,” Petra comments as they finally enter the treasure room. Jessie smiled at her, nodding in agreement. The treasure room was the biggest in the temple, containing the treasures they brought back. From Sponges to Wither Skulls. Jessie’s old posters decorate the walls, and Ivor’s armors along the back are on display. “Woah! Lukas? I don’t believe it!” Jessie’s eyes widened at the mention of the blonde’s name, turning her attention back to what was in front of her. Lukas was indeed there. At the top of the stairs where the Order’s amulet sat.

“Hey guys! You have some pretty cool stuff here.” Lukas waved before making his way down the stairs. Jessie’s smile widened, running to him before he quickly caught her in his arms in a warm embrace.

“How was your trip?” Jessie asked, pulling away a bit from the hug.

“There’s so much to tell you.” He chuckled. “I really missed you guys.”

“Some more than others.” Petra teased with a smirk, making the two blush and part from their embrace

“You have so many treasures now.” Lukas commented as he looked around, a particular treasure catching his eye. “You framed him.”He frowned slightly before turning back to them. The two women turned to where he had been looking. Right there, at the bottom of the stairs, they had a small private shrine for Jessie’s beloved best friend, Reuben. Besides his porkchop being placed in a frame just below his picture were two pots with his favorite flower, azure bluets.

“Yeah.” Jessie frowned, walking over to it.

“How are you doing?” Lukas asked. Jessie frowned, looking at the shrine before turning around to her friends again.

“I really, really miss him.” She admitted, hugging herself. “Every morning I wake up and, just for a minute, I can pretend that he’s just in another room, or rooting around outside for some carrots.” She sighed. “And then every morning I get to remember all over again that he’s gone.”

Petra and Lukas frowned, seeing how crestfallen it had made her. Lukas didn’t mean it to come to that. Six months later, getting used to seeing Jessie without Rueben by her side still felt unimaginable. The two had become inseparable from day one.

“I’m sorry.” He apologized, taking her hand. “Look, I promise I wasn’t here to bum everybody out.” He sighed. “I actually came back because I needed to tell you something. It’s about a weird run-in I had…with Aiden.”

“Ugh, I hate that guy.” Petra scowled.

“Whatever you said or did…it really got to him.” Lukas added.

“Man, he’s such a jerk. He never stops.” Jessie crossed her arms angrily.

“He’s been so jealous of you and the rest of the Order ever since you saved the world from the Witherstorm. Convinced that HE was supposed to be the hero.” Lukas shook his head. “Ever since he took over the Ocel- um… ‘The Blaze Rods, ’ it seems like he’s just gotten meaner. He’s pushing Maya and Gill around.”

“Yeah.” Jessie nodded, walking past him and up the stairs. “When we saw him, he kind of freaked me out. Making crazy threats, knocking his own gang around.” She frowned.

“So, what’d you find that got Aiden so excited, anyway?” Lukas asked. Jessie turned to look at her friends again, smiling before reaching into her pockets. Lukas and Petra walked up the stairs, seeing the shiny flint and steel

“Wow. That’s a weird glow.” He commented.

“I know, right?” Jessie looked at the flint and steel in her hands. “I’m supposed to show it to-”

“You found it!” Ivor appeared next to the young adults. The three friends jumped in surprise, each of them splurging annoyed comments at him.

“Dude! What is wrong with you?” Jessie shouted.

“This is the greatest find of our time! I can’t believe that you’re actually,” Ivor expressed in a rather excitable tone. “that you’re actually holding it!”

“I mean, it’s got some sort of enchantment on it, but it’s just a flint and steel, right?” Jessie raised a brow.

“Jessica, that’s not just ‘some sort of enchantment’.” Ivor shook his head in disbelief. “That glow , that enchantment is the work of a very old group of builders. A group so old they existed before  the Order of the Stone!”

“Woah,” Petra exclaimed.

“Yeah. Dramatic.” Lukas raised a brow, confused.

“Wow. I didn’t even think there was a time before The Order of the Stone.” Jessie played along.

“It’s incredible, isn’t it? I haven’t even gotten to the best part!” Ivor grinned. “You see if these builders truly existed, and if you found their temple..that means we are one step closer to finding the Eversource!” He exclaimed excitedly. “What a beautiful sight!”

“Looks like you came back just in time, Lukas.” Petra elbowed the blond, making him huddle over in pain.

“The Ever-what now?” Jessie continued to be confused.

“The Eversource!” Ivor exclaimed

“Are you, uh, gonna actually explain it any more than that or-?” Lukas urged as the older man started pacing.

“The Eversource is said to be an object of incredible power possessed by the old builders. It was some sort of treasure or artifact.” The old man stroked his beard in thought before turning to look at the young adults again. “It supposedly gave them an endless supply of precious materials! Think about it, Jessica! That temple could have been its hiding place!”

“Wow, old builders? You learn something new every day.” Petra looked back at the flint and steel.

“I’m still trying to wrap my head around the ‘Eversource’.” Lukas looked at her.

“Well, what are we waiting for, then?” Jessie grinned. “We’ve already been to that temple once; finding it again will be a snap. ” Jessie snapped her fingers for emphasis.

“Excellent! I’ll gather my adventuring gear immediately!” Ivor exclaimed before running off out of the treasure room.

“Wait, he’s coming?!” Petra exclaimed.

“Well, seems to me you have a lot to get to I’ll just uh-” Lukas tried to make a quick getaway.

“Nope. You’re coming with.” Petra grabbed hold of him. “I need a buffer between me and Ivor.”

“Come on. Let’s get going.” Jessie grinned, taking off after Ivor, along with Petra and Lukas following close behind.

“This is exciting!” Ivor’s voice echoed through the dense forest. “Adventure!”

The old man walked ahead of the group, excitedly admiring the trees and flowers that surrounded them. Petra shook her head in annoyance before turning to Lukas behind her and Jessie.

“Lukas, I know it’s daytime, but watch our backs okay?” She told him. Lukas only nodded in response, keeping a few feet between himself and the women. “I can’t believe we’re bringing Ivor with us,” Petra whispered in annoyance to Jessie. “I mean, it’s nice that he’s excited? But, ugh, not my top choice for ‘adventuring companion. ’” She groaned in annoyance

“Aww come on, Petra.” Jessie grinned. “He’s super funny! And he makes me laugh.” Jessie looked towards the old man.

“I guess?” Petra shook her head. Jessie smiled slightly at her friend before looking toward Ivor again.

“These trees are enormous!” He shouted, waving his arms around with a laugh. “I love it so much!”

“He just…really gets on my nerves sometimes.” She admitted. Jessie turned to look at her, sympathetic to the admission and understanding the situation from the last few months. While Jessie also had reservations about the older Order member, she has always been more trusting than Petra. Forgiving? That’s still on the table.

“Remarkable. Look at this architecture!” Still, Jessie couldn’t help but smile at the sight of the old man admiring the temple before them. “So old! So exquisite!” He commented,” Oh, this is how I dreamed it would be! Except for less cake. My dreams usually involve cake.” He pondered.

“Ivor, it's nice to see you smiling.” Jessie smiled at him.

“I’m not smiling.” Ivor turned to her for a split second. Jessie only smiled in response before the group approached the temple’s entrance. “Wow, it sure looks different during the day.” Jessie scanned the room with the levers. All three levers were still how she had left them the previous night. A part of her was glad that Aiden hadn’t tried to break into it in hopes of finding more treasure.

“Okay, but careful what you touch. There could be traps everywhere.” Ivor warned as he walked away from the group. Petra rolled her eyes in annoyance before she too walked away, deciding to investigate the floor entrance from last night, and Lukas went over to admire the temple's architecture. “Petra! Blond guy! Are you as excited as I am?!” Ivor shouted.

“I don’t think that’s possible,” Petra responded nonchalantly.

“What?”

“She just means that you seem super excited, Ivor.”

Deciding to tune out her friends’ conversations, Jessie walked over to one of the levers, wanting to see if they were still functioning.

“Nope. Doesn’t look like that is opening up anytime soon.” She observed after pulling the lever.

“That’s alright. I've had enough of the spiders and lava and everything it had to offer already.” Petra looked over at her from the temple’s entrance.

“I just can’t believe we missed a whole secret room last night.” Jessie placed her hands on her hips, staring down at the giant door

“We were kind of fighting, I don’t know, a ton of monsters.” Petra shrugged. “It’s no surprise that we didn’t hit every nook and cranny.” Jessie looked back at her with a grin before Petra turned back to the door again. Seeing that their short conversation had come to an end, she turned to look at Lukas. The blond boy had grown an interest in inspecting one of the lever contraptions. He had flipped the lever, likely hoping it would have done something, but he had no luck, just as she hadn’t moments ago.

“Interesting.” He tapped his finger to his chin.

“What is?” Jessie asked, sneaking up behind him. Lukas smiled lightly before turning to look at her, taking in the sight of her. Gosh, did the blonde miss seeing her every day. With him being away to help Goldenville and her and the Order off exploring, the two rarely had time to see each other. He still owed her a second date.

“Whoever these Old Builders were, they sure had a skill for the redstone. I’ve never seen anything like it.” Lukas told her. “I bet Olivia was excited to figure out how it works.”

“Yeah.” Jessie nodded. “Unfortunately, we didn’t have enough time for her to study it further. We were kind of being chased by a ton of monsters.”

“Well, I’m glad you guys made it out.” Lukas smiled. Jessie returned the smile before turning away from him, quickly taking note of the light coming from a hole in the ceiling.

“Well that wasn’t here last night.” She commented out loud as the others joined her. “I’m going up.”

“Excellent!” Ivor shouted as she began her climb up the vines. “We’ll be right behind you!”

“Uh…yeah, what he said.” Petra rolled her eyes. Jessie quickly climbed the vines, meeting with an open wall, as if a creeper had destroyed it.

“So you think this Eversource thing is up here?” Jessie asked.

“Hard to say, Jessica.” She heard Ivor respond. “As the story goes, the Old Builders feared its potential, so they locked it away in a place where it would never be found.” Jessie walked around the large room as she listned to Ivor speak. “And ha! It never has been.” Jessie walked over to another large hole in the wall of the large room, spotting some ocelots in the distance.

“Hmm,” She raised a brow before turning away towards what else was in the room. To her surprise, the room wasn’t entirely empty. How she missed the pressure plate in the middle of an egg-shaped looking kind of portal, she wasn’t sure.

“What is Jessica doing up there?” Ivor asked frustratingly.

“Well that looks promising.” Jessie comments to herself looking down at the pressure plate with curiosity before stepping forward and activating it, completely ignoring the old man’s complaints. She could hear the redstone activate beneath her, but she didn’t feel like she was in any danger. Instead of hearing the sounds of potential TNT being below her, it sounded more like pistons moving. She looked up at the egg-shaped portal, confirming that she had thought right, as the whole frame moved forward with the pistons.

“Jessica! What do you see?!” Ivor shouted. Jessie turned to where she had entered from and saw Petra coming up first and spotted the portal in front of her.

“Some kind of portal?” Petra raised a brow.

“It’s just as I imagined!” Ivor marveled at the strange-looking portal, his eyes sparkling with happiness. “Spectacular!”

“That's a weird looking portal.” Jessie approached it. “Have you seen anything like it before?”

“No.” Ivor looked at her for a moment before going to examine the portal again. “The old builders experimented with portals, but this is different from anything I’ve seen.”

“Hmmm.” Jessie looked at the portal for a moment before pulling out the flint and steel from her pocket. It was glowing brighter now, and the closer she moved to the portal, the brighter it got. “Here goes nothing.” She took a deep breath, sounding more confident than she was. She leaned slightly, unaware of her friends surrounding her, using the flint and steel to light the portal. The flint and steel let out a bigger spark than it had the previous night, along with a force that pushed all four adults back and making Jessie lose her grip on the flint and steel.

The flint and steel casually rolled away from her as she tried shaking off the shock of the portal’s push. She wished she hadn’t lost grip of the flint and steel, or at the very had gotten ahold of it much quicker when she noticed who had grabbed it.

“Thanks for bringing this back to me, Jessie.” Aiden chuckled with an ugly grin. “I knew you were good for something.

“You’re going to regret that, Aiden.” Jessie glared at him angrily.

“Oh yeah?” Aiden growled. His ugly grin stayed intact.

“Yeah.” She sneered back.

“Oh yeah?” Gil joined.

“Shut up, Gil!” Aiden looked at him, making Gil back away. “Step aside Jessie. We’re going through that portal now.”

“Oh, no way!” Petra glared.

“Aiden, you’re done. This is where it ends.” Lukas added. Jessie grinned at her two friends, glad to see them both ready for whatever Aiden had in mind.

“Fine.” Aiden put the flint and steel into his back pocket. “Blaze Rods! Clear me a path.” He ordered. At his command, Maya and Gill quickly took out their swords, as did Petra, Jessie, and Lukas. Gill went straight for Jessie, but she was quick to avoid his sword before attacking him with her own. Even though the two groups had never physically fought before, the fact that they knew how to properly fight with a sword kind of surprised Jessie.

“Let’s go!” She heard Aiden shout. With a short gasp, Jessie ran towards Gill, in hopes to block his path. Unfortunately, the man quickly kicked her stomach, sending her back crashing into Lukas. This allowed Gill and Maya to quickly chase after Aiden, disappearing into the portal.

“We’ve got to follow them!” Ivor urged as the three adults stood. “If they get the Eversource, who knows what trouble they will cause!”

“We’re going after Aiden.” Jessie glared at the portal. “And we’re going to take him down.” Ivor and her friends looked at her and nodded before they ran into the portal, one by one, with one thought in mind.

Aiden. Is. Going. Down.

Chapter Text

The group had traveled through portals before, but traveling through this portal was unlike anything they had experienced before, not even comparable to the Nether Portal. All that the group could see was pure darkness around them, as if they had closed their eyes. After what felt like forever, Jessie was finally able to see some green grass. Unfortunately the ground came too fast at her that she stumbled when she landed and crashed into another body.

“Woah! Woah!” Ivor screamed as he hung over the edge.

“Don’t worry, I got you!” Jessie told him as she had gotten hold of his hand just in time. The two struggled for a moment with Jessie trying to pull him up before stumbling back, bringing him back on to flat land. “You are surprisingly heavy,” Jessie told him in between breaths.

“I am the proportionate weight for my height, thank you very much!” Ivor protested in between breaths as well. Jessie sighed finally being able to breathe normally again and walked over to take a look at where they had landed.

“Any sign of the Blaze Rods? ” Jessie asked, kneeling over the edge.

“No! Nothing!” Petra told her. How high up were they? The wind carried their voices that the group was practically shouting at each other.

“Do you think Aiden knew about this?” Jessie turned to her. “The Portal? The Eversource?”

“He definitely seems to know now.” Ivor scoffed.

Jessie frowned, watching him walk away before she stood. The group went to look over the edge, probably hoping to find out how on earth the Blaze Rods had gotten off this land so quickly. As Jessie walked to the other of the land she could see the clouds beginning to clear up. What she saw next completely shocked her.

“Hey, uh, you guys see that?” Jessie asked, hoping that she wasn’t going completely crazy.

“What?” Lukas raised a brow.

“So very strange…” Ivor was the first to walk up beside her. Below them was a giant floating island. Was it a city? Town? Kingdom? What did you even call it?

“That right there! Big floating island! On the horizon!” Jessie pointed towards it.

“Oh wow. I’m really surprised I didn’t notice it sooner.” Petra’s eyes widened at the sight. What was that thing made of? “A city in the clouds…it almost sounds impossible.”

“I just don’t know how we’re going to reach it.” Lukas comments, looking down below, before the group regrouped away from the edge.

“Yeah, that’s definitely going to be a problem.” Petra agreed.

“I can’t believe this, we fall through a portal, into a new world, and then we can’t even go anywhere.” Lukas frowned. It was a pretty big fall. But if the Blaze Rods were somehow able to get off this island in record time, then surely the New Order of the Stone could as well. They just needed a way across and what better than a bridge to get them there.

“Okay, people, you know the drill; what did you bring with you?” Jessie asked.

“That’s my private business.” Ivor protested with a scowl.

“I didn’t exactly bring a whole lot. Why?” Lukas asked.

“Because we are building a bridge. And it’s going to everything we have.” Jessie turned to the edge again, kneeling over it.

“I don’t know Jessie.” Lukas frowned. “Seems like a long way. Do we have enough blocks?” Jessie looked over the edge, careful not to kneel too far out. “And it's really far.”

“Yes. Very astute, Lukas.” Ivor spoke sarcastically.

“Ivor the grump strikes again, I see.” Petra joked.

“Elementary, my dear Lukas.” Jessie finally stood and turned to him with a grin. “The underside of this island is much bigger than it appears.”

“Really?” Lukas raised a brow.

“Jessica’s right.” Ivor confirmed, looking over the edge as well. “If we strip this whole island down to nothing, it might just be enough.”

“Let’s get digging then.” Jessie told them.

And so they did. Each member took a side of the island, careful to not dig straight down and instead focused on the block in front of them. The group dug for what felt like forever, when in reality it was about an hour or two, until they reached the bottom of the land. Jessie almost taking a plunge over the edge but thankfully Lukas grabbed hold of her hand and kept her on the small two by two land.

“Stop pushing!” Ivor yelled.

“I’m not pushing! Lukas is pushing!” Petra yelled back.

“I’m just trying to keep away from the edge!” Lukas yelled.

“It’s ALL edge!” She yelled again.

“Alright gang, let’s build us a bridge.” Jessie told them after placing four straight blocks, side by side. They all took a spot, beginning to place blocks in front of themselves. Eventually the group was running low on blocks, so they were handed to Jessie to allow her to continue placing them in front of herself and they trailed behind. “Okay, this is our stop. Everybody off!” She announced, placing the final dirt block down

“Ivor, seriously?” Petra scowled. Jessie raised a brow turning around to look at what Petra was complaining about now. Turns out that Ivor had used some of his dirt blocks to build a heart with lava pouring out of it.

“Heh, sorry, couldn’t help myself.” Ivor chuckled.

“You’re building?!” An unfamiliar voice said in shock. The group quickly turned around again, seeing a light-skinned man standing in the entrance of the city. “I…you..I don’t.” He backed away from the group, looking absolutely petrified.

“Hey, yeah, we’re building? Is something wrong with that?” Jessie asked calmly.

“I, uh…you don’t know?” He asked, confused. “You were building. Unauthorized building is against the law.”

“Wait, there’s a law saying people can’t build?” Petra stepped towards him.

“Yes! It’s forbidden!”

“This makes no sense!” Ivor protested. “No sense at all!”

“I well…it’s the law.”

“Oh geez, I’m sorry.” Jessie scratched the back of her head nervously. “We had no idea.”

“It’s a stupid law.” Ivor protested.

“Oh geez, first those other outsiders and now you guys.” He looked around them nervously.

“Other outsiders?” Lukas stepped in. “Where are they?”

“Oh um… they went to the inn. I’m sorry but that’s all I know.” He spoke quickly before he turned on his heel and ran back inside.

“Wait, wait, wait, come back!” Jessie tried chasing after him.

“I’m just super busy, sorry!” He shouted and disappeared quickly around the corner and seeing that they weren’t going to get any information out of him, there was no point in chasing after him.

“And he’s gone.” Petra sighed.

“Darn.” Jessie frowned as she walked towards the entrance, her friends following behind.

“I wonder if everyone here is that…” Ivor’s voice trailed off as they all finally caught sight of the city’s size. “Nervous.”

“Wow!” Lukas comments.

The first thing they noticed was the giant, egg-shaped building that took up most of the small island in the sky. Being made of iron and gold blocks, it shone in the sun's rays. It had a combination of stone blocks and cobble, and gold blocks as stairs that led to the inside. Surrounding it, there were towers, likely homes of the citizens, and giant tree was fenced up in the center of it all.

“Incredible!” Ivor comments.

“Wow. That is absolutely beautiful.” Jessie agreed, walking towards it.

“Yes. Clearly the Eversource is capable of miraculous things!” Ivor grinned. “And when I get my hands on it-”

“Hey, how about you take a massive chill pill and we find it first?” Petra interrupted.

“Yes. Yes.” Ivor waved her off. “I’m just getting excited.”

“As crazy as Aiden has been lately, if he gets that thing, it would be bad.” Lukas turned to Jessie.

“Well, if we beat him to it, he won’t be able to get slimy little hands on the thing.” Petra grinned.

“Guys, we need to find Aiden. He’s got our flint and steel, and he’s up to no good. But we’re going to stop him.” Jessie told them.

“The guy mentioned an Inn, right? That seems like our best lead to find Aiden so far.

“Agreed.”

“The Blaze Rods already have a head start, so we need to get moving. We don’t have time to lose.” Jessie told them. “Let’s split up and take a look around for that Inn.”

As the friends split up, Jessie wandered over to where the giant tree was. She noticed how it was the only tree on the small piece of land, and there seemed to be food growing around it with a small waterfall.

“Don’t step on the grass, please.” A guy with a mustache and gold uniform turned to her. She could only assume he was a guard. Jessie looked down at the grass, seeing that it would be quite difficult for her to set foot on the grass.

“Okay?” She raised a brow.

“Sorry. I just take my job very seriously because it is, in fact, a very serious business.” He explained. “Not many people get the honor of watching the tree, but, heh, I’m pretty good at my job.”

“Who are you guarding this place for?”

“The Founder of course.”

“The…Founder?”

“Sorry, I’d explain more, but I actually have to get back to my work.”

“Alright.” Jessie shrugged before walking away to go look at the giant egg-shaped building. It was bigger than the temple back home! How did someone have so much iron and gold to burn? Perhaps they had a Fortune enchantment on their pickaxe? Even so, it would take a very long time to collect that many ingots of the two ores. She began walking towards it, noticing that Ivor was talking to one of the locals, hopefully not spilling anything about looking for the Eversource. Just behind him and the local was a small building, if she could even call it a building. It was more like a small shack with a single crafting table inside it and a long line of people waiting to use it.

“That is one popular crafting table.” She raised a brow. Weird .

“Don’t worry, everyone, your turn will come. Please have your materials ready when you approach the crafting table.” It was another guard. Jessie would have talked to him but he seemed to be busy with the lady currently using the crafting table. Jessie raised a brow spotting a guy in the back of the line, anxiously jumping in place, glancing ahead of the line.

“Augh, I knew I shouldn’t have waited so long to eat.” She heard him say.

“That’s an awful long line just to use a crafting table.”

“You’re telling me.” He groaned. “I could just eat my wheat right here, right now but I won’t.” He shook his head. “I’ll be patient and turn it into delicious bread instead.” He sighed before looking at her again. “But uh, what can I do for you stranger? I haven’t seen you around before.”

“Oh um…I heard you guys have an Inn around here somewhere. Mind telling me where it is?” She asked with a smile.

“Oh Milo’s place? That guy is hilarious.” He laughed before pointing past the garden she had looked at earlier. “He’s over that way.”

“Milo huh? Thanks!” Jessie turned to leave before hearing him again mention something about being hungry. “Hey, if you’re hungry, you should try this.” She pulled out the cake she had found in the temple.

“If you say so.” He carefully took the cake, taking a huge bite out of it. “Holy hand outs! That’s incredible!” He exclaimed. Before Jessie knew it, the man finished it before her very eyes. “Do you uh…do you happen to have more of that?” He asked shyly.

“No sorry, all out.” Jessie shook her head.

“Oh…that’s okay. I may just never be happy again until I find more of that…’cake’.” He frowned looking at the ground. Jessie smiled sheepishly, quietly walking away from him. Had he never had cake before?

Jessie sighed, finally away from the sad, hungry man. Feeling a bit guilty of introducing cake to him, not knowing if they even had cake here. If they couldn’t build freely, it seemed that they couldn’t craftly freely either. Nor cook apparently! Because now she was standing in front of another hut, taller but smaller than the crafting table one, with a single furnace and guard behind some iron bars.

“Are you on the schedule for this afternoon?” The guard suddenly spoke up, noticing that she was staring at the furnace.

“Um..”

“Didn’t think there were anymore appointments today. Hang on, let me see here.” He pulled out a wooden sign. “Dale: Ten Stone Blocks’ Oh yes that went very well. ‘Melissa: Three cooked porkchops’. She rescheduled. Classic Mel.” He laughed.

“You keep the furnace locked up? Did it do something wrong?” She joked with a grin. The guard looked up at her from his list, clearly not amused.

“If you wish to make an appointment, speak to the founder. Good day.” He put his sign away. Jessie frowned, clear to her that she wasn’t going to be able to ask him anything and walked away. She quickly spotted a large observance tower just in front of the egg building. Surprisingly there were no guards at the top though. She looked around, wondering if they were just on break or something, instead she found a wooden sign beside it.

‘No building. No crafting, no brewing, no forging, unless with EXPRESS PERMISSION from the Founder. All complaints must be registered in person.’

“That’s it you can stop writing now?” Jessie read the last line. “Intense.” She shrugged. Jessie walked away, heading in the direction that hungry man had told her. Jessie was surprised to spot Petra standing in front of the entrance of the giant building.

“Hey Petra. Whatcha looking at?” Jessie stood beside her, following her gaze.

“Just admiring the sights, actually.” She shrugged. “This place is so cool. I’m not usually one for, like, ‘checking out people’s builds’ or whatever but even I have to admit this is really impressive.” Jessie raised a brow, slightly, at her before looking at the giant building as well. Admittedly Petra was right. The giant egg was super impressive. It kind of reminded her of when they first discovered Soren’s fortress. That was impressive as well. They hadn’t seen any buildings like this in months.

“The Founder isn’t accepting any visitors right now.” The guard stated as he had noticed the two women staring at the building. The two women turned to one another, confused, before turning to him.

“Okay?” They shrugged. Jessie decided that she was done admiring the building and headed off in the direction of the Inn. On the way there she ran into a woman being guarded by another guard. Though this guard’s hat was different from the others she had seen, with a star right in the center of it.

“Captain Reginald at your service.” He introduced himself as she neared him.

“Hey, what are you guys up?” She asked looking towards the woman.

“Oh, just supervising this citizen while she does her build.”

“The Founder finally approved my petition.” The woman looked at her excitedly.

“It's no easy feat to get all these oak blocks.” Reginald told her. “Your petition was very well handled.

“Aww, gosh, that’s nice of you.” She grinned.

“I just don’t understand why everyone shouldn’t be allowed to build.” Jessie frowned.

“Ha, what a sentiment. I mean, its a good thought, but that’s crazy.” He chuckled at the thought. Jessie raised a brow looking at him, unsure if he actually considered the thought or he was actually calling her crazy.

“Just curious, Reginald, those are some fancy clothes you’re wearing. Is it the Captain’s Uniform?”

“Indeed it is.” He straightened his jacket proudly. “I try not to brag but I’m actually the Captain of the Guard. It’s one of the many reasons I get to supervise a build like this one.” He chuckled, gesturing to the busy woman again.

“So, if you cannot build, what do you guys do for fun?” Jessie asked.

“Oh, well all sorts of things.” He chuckled. Jessie noticed that he did that a lot. “We make wishlists of resources, practice low inventory builds. Some poeple even do poetry. Its uh, its a pretty great place to live.”

“Riiight.” Jessie raised a brow. “Well, don’t let me interrupt you guys. Good luck.” Jessie slowly walked backwards.

“Much obliged.” He nodded before Jessie turned around and quickly walked away. That was awkward to say the least. She wondered if the Captain of the Guard truly enjoyed his job or if he was just pretending. Either way, she supposed it wasn’t her business to figure that out but it did linger in the back of her mind.

“These guards really mean business huh?” Lukas asked her. He was standing on a small bridge over a small plot of water, staring over at the captain.

“Yeah, I wouldn’t mess with them.” Jessie shook her head. “They are truly devoted to this ‘Founder’ person.”

“Founder huh?” Lukas pondered. “Could it be that that’s where Aiden could have gone?”

“Not sure.” She shrugged. “I have to find this guy ‘Milo’. Supposedly he’s the owner of the Inn around here.”

“Milo?”

“Yeah. A guy told me it should be around here somewhere.” Jessie looked around them. Given how small the island actually was there weren’t many buildings around them. In fact the area felt like a small back alleyway of Beacontown. “I’m going to take a look around.”

“I’ll be here.” Lukas grinned, watching her go.

Jessie smiled back at him before heading towards another guard. He was standing at the bottom of a set of stairs.

“Sorry, stranger. Can’t come up here.” He informed her. Jessie raised a brow, confused as to why she couldn’t. Forbidden areas always made her curious to know what was being hidden behind close doors. She supposes thats why she got into so much trouble as a child, always going into places she wasn’t supposed to go in. Jessie walked away from the guard, heading towards a small building. Outside this small building was a sign that read ‘Milo’s Inn’ and two men standing just below it. A blonde guy with a red hat, gray shirt and blue suspenders. The other had an afro, glasses and a red vest and they were both talking in a very hush tone.

“Where should I put them?” The afro guy asked, holding a bundle of sticks in his hand.

“Just hand them here.I’ll deal with them.” The blonde took the sticks. The two men quickly took notice of her approaching them, eying them rather suspiciously. “Get out of here. Go. Go.” He quickly told him. “Why, hello there. What can I do for you?” He asked her, sounding nervous. “I’m not sure what custom is where you come from, but here, heh, it is considered impolite to stare.”

“Um, yeah, sorry, are you Milo?” She asked, ignoring his nervousness.

“Yes, yes. That’s me. Pleasure to meet you.” He spoke a little calmer. “Don’t see many new arrivals, here in Sky City. What can I do for you friend?” He stood from the wall. “I’m a bit busy but, uh, I can spare a moment for a friendly stranger.”

“I heard some punks came by here. They are after the Eversource, know anything about it?” She asked in a hush tone.

“Stealing the Eversource?” He raised a brow. “That sounds rather outlandish and dangerous buisness to get mixed up in, if you ask me.” He pondered headint to the door of the Inn. “Sorry, its like I told those other outsiders, I cannot help you. Now please-” He turned to disappear.

“Hey, is this our guy?” Petra, Ivor and Lukas joined behind Jessie.

“He tell you where to find the Blaze Rods ?” Ivor asked.

“How many of you are there?” Milo looked at them in shock. “I told you, I don’t know anything!”

“He hasn’t told you anything yet?!” Ivor pushed past Lukas angrily.

“Is he hiding them somewhere?” Petra added angrily.

“I am uncomfortable with this line of questioning!” Milo stepped back from them.

“Come on, Milo. I swear you can trust me.” Jessie stood in between her friends and the poor innkeeper. “Nothing is going to happen to you. Just help us.”

“Fine.” Milo looked at her reluctantly. “If it makes you leave me alone, I did speak to that Aiden fellow. He wanted to know where the Eversource was.”

“Called it!” Ivor spoke up.

“I just told him what everyone already knows; the Eversource is in the palace with the Founder. That’s all that happened, I swear.”

“What a bunch of creeps.” Petra crossed her arms.

“Yes. I wasn’t terribly fond of them.” He admitted shaking his head.

“Sooo, where is Aiden now?” Jessie asked.

“The group left for the palace and I haven’t seen them since.”

“Attention! Attention!” The loud voice of Captain Reginald suddenly echoed through the small alleyway. “Just a moment of your time, please. Emergency meeting! Attendance is mandatory!”

“Oh, slime blocks!” Milo cursed, walking past him.

“Curious, I wonder what that’s all about.” Ivor watched him walk away.

Curious as well, Jessie followed the blond Inn keeper, her friends not far behind. Rounding the corner, the group noticed how the townsfolk had gathered just outside of the egg-shaped palace. They could murmurs and whispers of those around them, most of them wondering what this emergency meeting cold be about.

“Oh, it's the founder!” A woman’s comment caught Jessie’s attention. Sure enough, Jessie turned in the direction of the palace spotting some guards and an older woman in a golden gown and long black hair.

“I wonder what this is about.” Petra glanced around the people.

“Yes. I’m nervous being surrounded by so many people.” Ivor commented sarcastically.

“Oh you have to be kidding me.” Jessie growned annoyingly.

“What are you-? Oh Crap.” Petra finally paid attention to the palace. Right there, next to the Founder was none other than the Blaze Rods; Aiden was sporting his ugly little sneer right next to the woman.

“People of Sky City! I’m sorry to pull you from your duties, but something urgent has been brought to my attention.” The Founder spoke loud, clear and authoritarian. It was a soft tone while still coming off as the boss of the people. “A crime has been committed.” Except that last part. She sounded angry.

“A crime?” The people started murmuring again, panicked.

“Please. Please, remain calm” She spoke calmer. “Earlier today, outsiders built a bridge into our fair city from a distant island.” She gestured to turn their attention to the giant golden door, just past the garden. The bridge Jessie and her friends, along with Ivor’s lava-fall, came into view for everyone to see. “Now whether these outsiders know it or not, this is a strict violation of Sky City’s most sacred law: No unauthorized building.”

“Wait. Was that you?” Milo whispered to them. “Are you the bridge builders?”

Jessie could hear the townsfolk whisper amongst themselves about how atrocious it was that they built a bridge . How they couldn’t believe the audacity to having built it.

“I didn’t know it was illegal .” Jessie rolled her eyes. “It was just a bridge.”

“This is nuts!” Petra jumped in as they watched Aiden whisper something into the Founder’s ear.

“Jessie, wherever you are, step forward now. I have already been informed of your identity.” The Founder looked through the crowd. “I appreciate that you may be ignorant of ours laws, but I will warn you: Sky City is small and I promise if you try to hide, we will find you.” She threatened. Captain Reginald quickly motioned to his men, as if giving an order, and they all started going through the crowd.

“We need to get to that Eversource at whatever cost!” Ivor shoved past Petra and Jessie. “This is clearly our fastest way into the castle.”

“By getting arrested?!” Petra argued.

“Don’t be fooled by the Founder’s lies.” Milo whispered. “I can help you come up with a plan to get into the palace.

“Bleh!” Ivor waved him off and turning around, raising his arms in the air. “Here I am!” He shouted. “I built the bridge!”

“Are you crazy?!” Petra backed from him. “ Does she look like she’s going to help us?!” Jessie watched as the guards was quickly approaching their group because of Ivor flagging them over. As easy as it looked to get into the palace by getting arrested, Jessie did not wish to find out what the jailcells were like. Not to mention how much Aiden how already manipulated the Founder into building him.

“Sorry, Ivor, I’m going with Milo.” She followed after the blond.

“Me too.” Lukas and Petra agreed.

“There they are!” Aiden shouted. “They’re getting away!” Milo quickly led the group through an alleyway.

“Go Jessie!” Lukas shouted at her before he jumped on a guard who nearly grabbed hold of him.

“Lukas!” Jessie shouted.

“Go!” He shouted again. Seeing more guards coming for them, Jessie saw no other choice but to leave him behind, chasing after Milo and Petra. Hopefully, Lukas and Ivor will be okay.

Chapter Text

As Petra and Jessie quickly followed Milo, they were thankful that he knew his way around to avoid the guards. They supposed that after living here for probably his whole life, he would know. Well…that was until he led them inside the Inn to a dead end.

“There’s nowhere to hide in here!” Petra shouted. “It’s a dead end!”

“Before we go any further,” Milo turned to them. “You must take an oath.”

“I think they went this way!” They could hear the guards outside.

“You must swear never to reveal what I’m about to show you.”

“What?!” Petra looked at him in disbelief. He had promised to help them, and now it seemed he was going back on his word.

“Do you swear?” Milo insisted.

“We can’t let them get away!” The guards sounded closer.

“Milo,” Jessie raised her right arm. “I solemnly swear that I will never tell your secret to anyone else.”

“Fantastic!” Milo grinned before turning to the other guy behind a desk. “Phillip!” This ‘Phillip’ nodded before stepping to the side and pulling a lever. “Right this way.” Milo pointed to the opening doors. Hearing more guards, Petra and Jessie quickly followed him inside, the doors shutting behind them.

“Welcome to Build Club.” He proudly presented. Jessie and Petra looked over the handrails, spotting a room below them with multiple crafting tables and a group of townsfolk they hadn’t seen before. “Everything you see before you was built from resources that my people have saved or…er...obtained.

“Man, it can’t be easy to come by some of this stuff. Nice work.” Petra complimented.

“It can be difficult, it's true. Many items have to be snuck under the noses of the guards.”

“Wow, so are you like, the leader of this little outfit?” Jessie asked.

“Yes. I suppose you could say that.” Milo chuckled. “You see, one day a long time ago, I was just a citizen of Sky City, like any other. I wanted to put in a community garden, so I put in a petition for a dirt block, and mercy me, it was granted.” His grin turned to a frown as he turned away from them. “But in all my excitement and haste to build my garden, I accidentally dropped my new block and it fell…right over the edge.” He looked at the ground angrily. “For my crime, I was tossed into the Founder’s dungeon. And I was in there for a very, very long time.” Petra and Jessie could hear hatred and sadness in his tone.

“Well, okay, but it was an accident.” Jessie raised a brow. “They can’t lock you up for that, can they?”

“Oh, but they can.” Milo turned to her again. “It was deemed an ‘Egregious Wasting of Resources’.” Milo looked at the people below. “You see, in our world, when something falls off the edge, it is gone. Forever.” He explained, leading them to the stairs that led to the room below. “But I have always believed that just because building is risky, it doesn’t mean that no one should do it. If only I had known you were builders sooner, I would have helped you all escape when I first met you, rather than have your friends be taken.” He turned to them again, having reached the bottom of the stairs. “But at least you’re here, yes?”

“I would like to save Lukas,” Petra told him. “And Ivor, I guess.”

“Milo, your people are rebels, willing to fight the system. Will they help us save our friends?”

“Why, I think they might-”

“Hey Milo!” One of the members interrupted. It was the same guy Jessie had seen Milo with before she spoke with him. He, along with some other members, came over, looking super unhappy.

“Ah, hello, friends.” Milo greeted them.

“Bringing in outsiders? Seriously?” A young woman with an afro looked at Jessie and Petra, unbelievingly.

“Pretty hard to keep this a secret club if you keep bringing people in.” Another woman glared.

“We have it hard enough as it is.”

“Everyone, please.” Milo raised his arms defensively.

“Yeah! It’s hard enough without you bringing in a couple of randos!” Another piped in.

“Do you mind getting our faces, pal?” Jessie glared, not liking how awfully close they were.

“What did you say to me?” The afro woman stepped closer.

“You heard Jessie, back off.” Petra glared, making the woman turn to her angrily.

“Woah, woah, woah.” Milo stepped in between the three women. “Hang on. I swear they’re cool.” Milo looked at his people. “They aren’t just outsiders.” He explained. “They’re the ones who built that magnificent bridge into town today!”

“Woah, dude!” The members began to mutter, but not out of being impressed.

“Milo, geez!”

“Milo, are you kidding? The most wanted criminals in the whole city?” Another member jumped in. She seemed much younger than the rest of the group. “We've got to turn them in before the guards break our door down.”

“Well, let’s not do that,” Petra told them.

“I assure you, harboring them is worth the risk.” Milo walked over to Jessie, placing a hand on her shoulder. “They are the epitome of ‘Build Club’ material!” The club members looked at one another, turning around to discuss, unsure if to believe Milo or not. How well did he know these two strangers who have literally broken the law? Granted, they themselves broke the law they supposed but them? They showed up out of nowhere. The members finally bcame ack around, the guy from earlier stepping towards them.

“All right then, if Milo says you’re these ‘amazing’ builders, prove it.” He challenged.

“Yeah, build something.” The Afro woman added.

“Now, see, this is very disrespectful to my guests. I’m the leader here.” Milo noticed the tension between Jessie and the man.

“I think I know my way around a crafting table better than any of you chumps.” Jessie glared at him.

“Oooh, cocky. Let’s see if you can back that up.” He raised his arms, his tone mocking her. She was definitely going to make him eat his words.

“We don’t know many recipes, so if you just show us something that they build where you come from.” Milo led her to a small stage. She assumed that’s where they displayed new recipes they learned.

“You’re going to be just fine, Jessie!” Petra encouraged with two thumbs up and a grin. Jessie wasn’t sure if Petra truly meant that or was doubting her.

“Jessie, it took us many weeks to scrape together this inventory. Please use them for your build.” Milo handed her some Iron Blocks and ingots.

“Build! Build! Build!” The Build Club members began to chant. Jessie noticed there was a crafting table and two iron blocks; the perfect build crossed her mind.

“Are you nervous yet, Milo?” The afro woman asked.

“Wha-what? Of course not!” Milo chuckled nervously. “Today is going exactly the way I believed it would this morning.”

“Relax.” Petra waved him off. “I’ve seen Jessie build in waaaay stressful situations.”

“Really?”

“Yeah. Once you see someone craft in zero gravity, there’s nothing more stressful than that.”

“Oh my.”

Jessie chuckled to herself as she finally placed the Pumpkin head on top of the ‘T’ shaped Iron Blocks. There was a loud rumbling sound, interrupting the conversation behind her. The Iron Blocks quickly grew a nose, red eyes, long legs and arms as long as its torso.

“Jessie, what is that?!” Milo asked in a panic, and the rest of the club backed up in fear.

“Oh no, everyone! It’s an Iron Golem and it’s out of control! Run for your lives!” Jessie warned them, causing them to scream and even one to faint.

“Jessieee!” Petra looked at her unbelievably.

“What?” Jessie looked at her with a grin and a chuckle. Petra couldn’t help but laugh to herself as well before shaking her head and turning to the panicking members.

“Hey, everyone, calm down! There’s nothing to worry about!” Petra assured. Sure enough, the members calmed down when the Iron Golem simply stared at them before walking away.

“I can understand why the guards are after you.” The teen ran to her. “That was incredible!”

“Right? I told you.” Milo grinned proudly.

“Yeah. We’re really sorry. Wowzers.” A man with a patch apologized. Multiple members following suit.

“Please, I didn’t do it to impress you,” Jessie told them. “I did it because Milo promised to get us into the palace, and you wouldn’t get off his back.”

“Time to make good on your word, right, Milo?” Petra looked at him.

“Ah, yes, of course, of course. That is why you are here,” Milo nodded. “I must say, though, after seeing you in action, your skills are far more impressive than I imagined.” He walked past them. “So impressive that I wonder if I could implore you for a tiny favor?” He looked at them with a grin.

“What sort of favor?” Petra asked.

“I help you get into the palace, you help me steal the Eversource for my people.” He turned to the Build Club members. “Unlimited resources for everyone!” He declared to them, making some of them cheer and others mutter in excitement.

“Okay fine, but my friends are in trouble in there.” Jessie agreed. “So if we’re breaking into the palace, we’re going to save them first.”

“This is an acceptable and noble arrangement.” Milo nodded.

“Good.”

“Now, as far as getting into the palace, according to my informants, the Founder keeps the Eversource behind a secret door located in the throne room,” Milo informed.

“Dramatic.” Petra grinned at Jessie with amusement.

“Every night, the Founder leaves guards at every door, but there’s a single window at the back of the palace that is left unguarded. It’s an almost perfect point of entry, but it is far too high.” He frowned. Jessie and Petra looked at one another with a grin, then back at Milo. “If we can find a way through the window, the Eversource would be practically within our grasp.

“Wow, looks like she completely outsmarted you guys with all her laws, didn’t she?” Jessie chuckled lightly, walking back to the stage.

“I…I don’t understand?” Milo looked at her, confused.

“Aww, adorable.” Petra grinned, following after Jessie.

“It means you guys need to start thinking like builders out there! Craft a ladder.” Jessie told him.

“Building ladders?”

“Crafting a way in?” Milo grinned, hearing the curious and excited murmurs of the club members. He walked up to Jessie and Petra, taking out a bundle of sticks and handing them over.

“If you could show us how to craft something that would reach the window, we can get the heist underway!” Jessie looked over at Petra, who simply shrugged at her before going over to the crafting table. She could feel the eyes of the Build Club members watching her intensely as she placed the sticks in an ‘H’ shape. Once placed, the crafting table recognized the recipe and quickly turned the pile of sticks into a single ladder. She held it up, accidentally placing it on display for them to see, resulting in excited cheers from the members once again.

“Incredible!”

“You are one of us, Jessie and Petra! We will never forget this day!” Milo proclaimed. The members surrounded them in excitement, wanting to get a look at the ladder.

“Let’s get crafting then.” Jessie grinned, pulling out the remaining sticks that she had.
