Work Text:
Saoirse,
I’m really glad that the monarchy of Keirdre has been abolished. I told you that the barrier was working the way it's supposed to. However, I was also caught off guard that your Prince–sorry, Hayes–gave up the monarchy for the Queen of Alkara. He’s a spoiled prince–for you, not just his former riches–but I’m still impressed by his decision.
You know what, when he suggested that I should have one of those stupid grand funerals for distinguished soldiers, I got pissed off. Luckily, you have common sense and you told him not to. And Saorise, I heard and feel that you forgave me for my actions. Don’t worry, it was hard to forgive me too, so I don’t blame you.
I also heard Rain’s speech, it was really heartfelt and I’m sorry for the pain I caused her. I brought her gifts but it was my presence that was the biggest gift of them all…how sweet. Unfortunately, I wasn’t physically there to witness Keirdre transform to a kingdom where race doesn’t matter and all are loved equally. I can’t physically be there for it, of course, but I’m glad that you don’t have to live in fear as a siren and all of the other creatures who were once banished from Keirdre.
I personally wished to not be persecuted as a half-human half-fae, but I’m glad others like me don’t have to anymore. Being able to live openly as yourself sounds like a paradise come true, from my wildest dreams. And about my letters to my dad, he initially was upset that he didn’t hear anything from me but I told him that they never sent the letters. When I showed him my letters, he cried with tears of joy and gave me a hug.
Saoirse, you know how much I longed to see my parents. And now they’re right here, no barriers, no Enforcers to execute humans for loving someone of a different species as them, it’s a miracle that I dreamed for. And if you blame yourself for my death, don’t you dare do that. As I was a soldier, I would’ve died in battle anyways.
It was my duty to protect the people I care about, including you. And no one could control that Reyshka had racist ideologies influenced by King Larster, that’s completely out of our control.
Besides all of that nonsense, I wish you luck with your family and of course your spoiled, beloved Prince Hayes.
Sincerely,
Carrik
