The USJ was worse and we need to put the students somewhere while we overhaul security.

Summary:

The USJ took Aizawa and All Might out of commission and left Nezu worried that UA’s security isn’t sufficient. Nezu decides to call in a favor from a friend.

Chapter 1: Nezu got an email

Chapter Text

Nezu watches his email frequently, refreshing the page. After the USJ he sent an email requesting a favor from a long time acquaintance. The woman was one of the few people that could occasionally beat him in chess. She’s the vice principal of the controversial Teyvat Akademiya. It’s expected of the only pro-hero school run by and for quirkless people. The existence of visions only added to the controversy. How fascinating it is watching the same people that use the excuse of quirkless people having no power to abuse them proceed to get even more aggressive once said quirkless people get their hands on power. As he refreshes his emails again he finally finds what he was looking for.

From: [email protected]
To: [email protected]

Dear Nezu,

I received your email and have brought it to our principal’s attention. She has agreed to allow both of your first year hero classes till you’ve finished your security overhaul, however we reserved the right to send back any student that breaks our rules or attempts to harm our students. I’m sure you know many of our students have had less than positive experiences with people outside of Teyvat. One of our other requests is that you take the next week to educate your students on the basics of Teyvat and visions. We will of course also educate them but it’d be better for them to start learning now and not be taken off guard by a quirkless student with a vision able to create hydro constructs. Attached to this email is a copy of our curriculum around the basics of visions for new vision users. You may change it as you see fit to help your students understand. We know misconceptions about Teyvat Academy are prevalent everywhere.

Sincerely Vice Principal Ningaung

Nezu realizes that his work is cut out for him. He’s probably going to have to carve time out of the student’s hero class for this but with how shaken class 1-A is and how bad of shape Aizawa and All Might are in, it might be good to give them a moment of rest anyway. This could also be a good chance for Class 1-A and 1-B to meet without any rivalries in the way. This could also provide more information on the inner workings of Teyvat Academy and how visions function. It is then that Nezu starts looking through the attachment with plans forming in his head.

Chapter 2: A meeting

Summary:

Nezu holds the meeting informing his staff of the plan.

Notes:

Re edited to have spacing. Hopefully this helps.

Chapter Text

Nemuri Kayama, also known as Midnight, knew today would probably start with a meeting but she wasn’t expecting the topic to be this. Teyvat Academy has an infamous reputation for a reason. “Can we even trust Teyvat Academy to teach our students?” Nemuri asks.

She had seen one of their former students herself once. The look in that man’s eyes still uneases her. It was like looking into the eyes of a dead fish. What are they doing to quirkless children for that to be the result? She would hate to see any of her students with those eyes.

“We can. Me and the vice principal have gone over this more since we first agreed to this. If any of the students feel uncomfortable during their time there they can leave at any point. However they’re also allowed to send any of our students home if they make any of their own students uncomfortable. Also they agreed to allow Sekijirou and later Aizawa once he recovers. I have no doubt both of them would intervene if the students were put in any kind of harm’s way.” Nezu says putting his staff mind at ease.

While Nemuri herself didn’t feel good about the situation she trusts Shota to keep the students safe. She hasn’t failed to see he’s gotten attached to them already. With that the meeting continues. It wasn’t for a bit longer before Nezu mentioned the final topic they’d have to discuss before informing the students. “We’ll also be doing Teyvat Academy’s introduction here so the students already know what to expect when they get there and make an informed decision on if they want to go or not.” That caught everyone’s interest. Teyvat rarely ever shared any of their educational material outside of their island. “They really sent that for the little listeners?” Hizashi asks, putting a voice to all of their thoughts ironically enough.

“Yes, it's mostly an overview of visions and the main religion or religions of the island.” Nezu answers before moving on. “What’s up to us is how we’re going to present the information to the students.” The meeting then went into the information they need to give the students and how they are going to tell the students. By the time the meeting ended it was officially decided that Nezu would hold an assembly for both first year hero classes to break the news and do a presentation on Teyvat. At the end permission slips would be handed out to each student to get signed by their parents. Nemuri herself still doesn’t trust Teyvat or their methods but she’s willing to see how this goes. At least she isn’t one of the ones who have to go there herself. She isn’t sure she’d be able to look any of those kids in the eye.

Notes:

God I’m so shit at this but fuck it I’m here for fun. Also guess who Nemuri ran into.

Chapter 3: Life is hard for a broke ex god

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Life… Life is a nightmare for a certain god at the moment. Zhongli just retired from being a hero and now he’s being called on, by principal Asmoday, to build a new dormitory for forty students and two teachers on short notice and in Japanese architecture. Granted it looks rather similar to Inazuma’s own architecture but a visit to the architecture teacher Kaveh wouldn’t hurt.

That doesn’t even touch on what he about UA students coming here. He was here long before Teyvat Academy was founded and was one of the people to push for its focus on being a safe place for the quirkless. It disappointed him to see people treated unfairly or as glass just because they don’t have something others do. However it wasn’t his decision to make. He long ago gave up his authority on these matters to mortals.

What he was mostly worried about now was his personal students. Hu Tao is commonly misunderstood by others. Her views on life and death despite not being entirely wrong tend to unnerve people. Xiao avoids most social interaction that’s not with other Adepti or the traveler. They both could easily be targeted for those qualities. It gave him some small amount of comfort that they’d be allowed to send any of the UA students back if they make any of their own students uncomfortable. He’d have to make sure to talk to his dorm about that. Also make sure Qiqi writes it down so she remembers.

He sighs to himself before refocusing on the task at hand. Regardless of anything else, these students and teachers are guests and as one of their hosts, even if it’s not written in a contract, he should do whatever he can to make sure they're comfortable during their time in Teyvat.

With that Zhongli starts to make his way to find Kaveh to talk about possible designs for the new dorm building. There should still be a few days till it needs to be completed. There’s no need to rush too much and turn out a poor product.

As Zhongli walks through the halls of the school heading to Kaveh’s classroom. He can’t help but watch the students a bit. Some were alone but not seeming lonely. Some were new kids still trying to find their place. Some were rushing to get to their next class. Most however were groups that were laughing and talking with each other. He couldn’t help but wonder how the UA students would mix into this. Would they stick to themselves or would they go against his expectations and actually grow to befriend some of Teyvat’s own students?

Zhongli makes it to Kaveh's classroom just as the man’s last class ends. Just the time he was going for. “Kaveh. It is good to see you, my friend. I have a commission for you. It’s fairly short notice but I assure that you will be fairly compensated for the inconvenience.” Kaveh doesn’t have to know that his payment will be out of Principal Asmoday’s wallet instead of his own yet. After all, he forgot his wallet at home today.

“A commission? Really?” Kaveh asked, sounding curious about what Zhongli was needing commissioned. He had a feeling what the commission would be, given the task the principal had asked of Zhongli but he usually handled it by himself. “Yes. While I have a smattering of knowledge on Teyvat architecture I find my knowledge of the outside world’s architecture lacking. I’d appreciate it if you could provide blueprints for a dormitory fit for forty students and two teachers with Japanese aesthetics in mind. I can handle the rest.” It was rare for Zhongli to be lacking in knowledge about any given topic.

“I’ll start working on it right away. I suppose I’ll have to go talk to Childe about my payment?” Kaveh asks, looking for confirmation for his assumption. Zhongli was notorious for supposedly forgetting his wallet whenever anything needed to be paid for with either Hu Tao or Childe having to foot the bill. “Not this time. Asmoday will be the one paying this bill. After all she’s the one in charge and this is a school building. It is only fair she’s the one to pay.”

Notes:

So my brain just spat this out in nearly one go starting at 3 am to 6 am. That was fun 🫠.

Chapter 4: The chapter with exposition and my own thoughts on vision criteria

Notes:

I think I’m about to double my word count-

Chapter Text

Izuku Midoriya wasn’t surprised the first year hero course was having an assembly on their first day back. The USJ… was horrible… but he wouldn’t let that stop him from becoming a hero. Heroes surpass all tragedies to save everyone that suffers during them. This is something he must overcome no matter what!

Izuku was so sure of that that that was exactly what he assumed this assembly would be about. It’d probably just be a way to up their morale before returning to their normal class schedule. It’d also be a chance to see 1-b and maybe learn about their quirks. Just what he needed to get his mind off it. The memory of Mr. Aizawa nearly dying in front of him was definitely something that would probably go away on its own, right?

It definitely would. It had to, but it wasn’t important right now. He has an assembly to get to. As he walks through the doors to the auditorium, he sees some of his classmates and some of the people who are probably in 1-b there. Uraraka and Iida were already there so he went over to join them. Iida and Uraraka were talking with each other by the time he got there.

“Do you think this is going to be about… the USJ?” Izuku heard Uraraka ask Iida as he approached them. Iida responded while doing his usual hand chopping motion. “Most likely. After an event like that they’ll most likely talk about how it happened and likely point those of us who are especially having trouble coming to terms with the event towards counseling.” Izuku had to admit he hadn’t really thought of counseling. Would it really be okay for him to though? “Wow Iida you know a lot about this stuff.” Izuku said a little surprised about the possibility of UA suggesting counseling.

“Of course, my own brother has had to seek counseling on more than one occasion after particularly bad cases. There is no shame in needing help.” Iida says once again, chopping the air with his hand. Izuku is a bit surprised to hear about a hero needing help in that way. “That makes sense, heroes see some horrible things sometimes.” Uraraka says thinking about her own future as a rescue hero in particular. Izuku would definitely talk to All Might about this once he got out of the hospital. If he gets out of the hospital. Which he definitely will! He’s All Might after all.

Their conversation continues like that for a while until everyone else makes it to the auditorium and Principal Nezu comes up to the podium on stage to address them all. “Hello students of class 1-a and 1-b. I trust you all know me already but if you don’t, I’m Nezu. The one that could be a dog or a mouse or a bear, however I’m most importantly your principle. We have two topics we need to get into today so we best get started.”

That surprised Izuku. He had thought this would only be about the USJ however he couldn’t help but be curious and continued listening to Principle Nezu. “First we’ll get into what you were all probably expecting us to talk about in the first place. The USJ was a tragedy that we failed to see coming and for that you all have our sincerest apologies. During these times we remind you that we do have a counselor here at UA who you may schedule an appointment with at any time. If for any reason at all you don’t wish to speak to Hound Dog about your issue, you can come to me and we’ll find different counseling for you free of charge.”

This was the first time he’s been suggested to seek mental help, granted it wasn’t him specifically it was suggested to but this solidified his decision to talk to All Might about it once All Might was able to get out of the hospital. “We will also be completely overhauling our security systems to prevent any incidents like this one from ever happening again. This brings us to our next topic. During the time it takes us to overhaul our security all of you have a choice to make. You can either be temporarily transferred to one of our other courses or be temporarily transferred to Teyvat Academy.”

At the mention of Teyvat Academy the auditorium goes silent. You could hear a pin drop. Izuku himself was shocked. Teyvat Academy and Teyvat itself was on a series of islands that are closed off to everyone but those select few that gain visions outside of the islands. Teyvat Academy’s shrouded in complete mystery. Sure, their Alumni occasionally show up in the outside world but more often than not they stay in Teyvat. Izuku tried not to judge before knowing the facts but most of the rumors he’s heard about Teyvat and its academy were concerning to say the least. Not much was even known about visions themselves besides that they gave their wielder power over an element and that having one would insure your entrance into Teyvat.

Little did Izuku know he was muttering the thoughts that were running through his head. Principal Nezu begins to speak again. “I know there are rather unpleasant rumors about Teyvat Academy and its students but that’s the second reason for this assembly today. We’ve been given basic knowledge about Teyvat Academy and Teyvat itself that the vice principal generously gave us so you can all make an informed decision about if you want to go or not.” This stunned Izuku to hear and part of him wishes he brought his notebook. That just means he would have to make sure to commit every word to memory.

A projection showed behind Nezu showing 7 strange symbols. He had seen the blue one that looked like a wave on a foreign hero, named Tartaglia or Childe depending on where he’s working at the time, that’s said to have come from Teyvat. Izuku had discovered him when he made a desperate search for quirkless heroes one night. “These are the 7 symbols for the 7 elements that vision users can wield. If you go to Teyvat you will likely see them in a lot of places.” Izuku speculates that the wave symbol likely represents a water element as that’s what he’s seen Tartaglia use. “In order you see them on the screen they are pyro, hydro, anemo, electro, dendro, cryo and geo. They each correspond to a type of vision a person could receive. We will be going into depth about each.”

Izuku could feel himself getting excited. He could see though that not all his peers feel the same. The projection changed from all the symbols to focusing on the one that looks like a red flame. “We’ll start with Pyro. As I’m sure most of you can guess, pyro is the element associated with fire. People wielding a pyro vision tend to be people with an ambition that has been passed down to them by someone else. It is also the element of the archon Haborym who is worshiped as the goddess of pyro and war in Natlan.” Izuku watched as the projection changed once again to a picture of a woman with fiery hair. His classmate Mineta could be heard making a comment about her chest that made any girl in earshot try to move further away from him even in their seats. She seemed to wear mostly leather and also had sunglasses. She wasn’t what he had pictured when he’d thought of a god of war. He also wondered why a god of war would be worshiped in the first place. He was also surprised that there was a picture of this supposed god. Maybe it was just an exaggerated title.

“Now I know most of you are probably confused about the mention of a goddess. In Teyvat each nation has a god or goddess that governs that specific nation and holds a particular ideal. It is called Archonism and it is the main religion in Teyvat. While there you won’t have to follow it or participate in anything regarding it outside of class but you would be expected to not attack students, staff or civilians for practicing it.” Izuku couldn’t help but feel flabbergasted at the information. Teyvat had people they see as gods running their nation? It seemed like a bad idea. It did explain though why there would be a picture of a goddess. It also made him feel something that they felt the need to explicitly tell them not to attack people for their religion. They were all training to be heroes and heroes wouldn’t do that. As he looked around him though he saw people that looked like they wanted to argue.

Nezu continued on with the presentation regardless. The projection now changes to the wave looking blue symbol. “The next element is hydro. It is the element associated with water. People with this vision tend to be people that have to be someone else for the sake of their ambition. It is the element of the Hydro dragon sovereign of Justice, Neuvillette, worshiped in Fontaine. Fontaine no longer has an archon after recent events that you’ll probably learn about in your classes there.” The projection once again changed to show a man with long white hair. Justice being an ideal caught Izuku’s attention. That one makes more sense to worship than war. It did make him wonder what happened to the archon.

Nezu then changes the projection to the symbol that looks like a teal pair of wings. “This is the element of Anemo. It is associated with wind. People with this vision tend to have gone through a loss that fueled their ambitions. It’s the element of the Archon Barbatos. He is known as the god of wind and freedom in Mondstadt.” The projection shows a person with dark blue hair with two small teal braids in the front. They also are holding a Lyre. If Nezu hadn’t called him a he Izuku wouldn’t be sure if the person was a boy or a girl. A god of freedom is governing one of the nations? It makes Izuku curious to see how that would even work.

The projection once again changes to the next symbol. It looks like three purple lightning bolts connected to each other at the ends. “Electro is the element associated with electricity as you all probably guessed. People with these visions are those that stay true to themselves no matter how much resistance or challenges it causes them. It is the element of Beelzebul the electro archon and goddess of eternity.” Once again the projection changes to a person. Once again Mineta is heard. “Damn I’d spend an eternity with her!” His voice without any shame and once again making any girl within a five mile radius want to be anywhere but there. Izuku himself can’t help but cringe. The comment goes ignored by Nezu as the projection switches again.

Now the symbol is a green heart that looks like it’s made out of vines. “Dendro is the element of nature and is the vision of people that use knowledge to reach their ambition. It is the element of Buer the goddess of wisdom who is worshiped in Sumeru.” A goddess of wisdom intriguing Izuku. He couldn’t help but wonder what she would be like. He was shocked as the projection showed a small child with white and green hair that had strange pupils. There were many sounds of shock and outrage at the implications that there was a child running a nation.

“Students, I ask that you don’t make rash assumptions. She may look like a child but from what I’m told she only has the form of a child after having used nearly all her power defending her nation. I can’t tell you if it’s true or not but it’s better to not start off on the wrong foot because of an assumption with no evidence.” Izuku felt even more intrigued hearing that. She was willing to sacrifice so much of her own power to defend her nation? What did she have to go against? Is no one going to take advantage of her current state? If he decided to go to Teyvat then it is definitely something he would watch out for and look for more information on. His classmates seemed to also calm down a bit at the explanation even if a few still seemed to give the situation the side eye.

It is only then that the next symbol is shown, a light blue snowflake. “Cryo is the element of Ice. The people that get Cryo visions are those that have an internal conflict between two parts of themselves. The Cryo Archon is known as The Tsaritsa and is considered the Goddess of love in Snezhnaya.” Izuku heard Mineta make a disappointed sound as the picture of The Tsaritsa only showed a woman with white hair from behind. It was rather strange but perhaps she just wasn’t one for pictures.

This was the last symbol, a yellow diamond shape with a design on the inside. “Geo is the final element you’ll learn about. It is the element that pertains to earth. People with Geo visions tend to be natural leaders that tend to take on the needs of others as their responsibility. The archon that presides over Geo is Morax. He is the oldest Archon still alive at supposedly over six thousand. He is the god of contracts and is worshiped in Liyue.” The projection showed a man with long brown hair in a ponytail. His face looks young but his general aura made him feel much older. Contracts felt like an odd thing to be a god of but that just made Izuku more interested.

“Now that we have finally gotten through that. I’ll leave the floor open to questions. I’ll be answering them the best I can and if I don’t have an answer I’ll get back to the asker once I do.” Nezu explains moments before nearly the entire auditorium erupts into raised hands from both class 1-a and 1-b.

Chapter 5: Nezu answers questions for a whole school day.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Nezu watched as multiple hands raised. This was likely going to take a while but that was just fine with him. He had planned for this. It is why this assembly will last the remainder of the day. He points to a student with their hand raised. Tenya Iida. “Sir! Isn’t it reckless of U.A. to send two first year classes alone to a possible cult-run island alone!”

A question he was expecting and had an answer to. “First, it would be reckless to do that but that is why those that go to Teyvat Academy will be accompanied by both Vlad King and Eraserhead during the entire time you’ll be transferred. Second, Archonism is a religion not a cult. I’ve even heard of a student of Teyvat Academy that publicly doesn’t practice Archonism at all having the role of ‘Yuheng’ in Liyue’s government ready for her as soon as she graduates.” It seems that his students relax a bit. A look of surprise is shown on the student’s faces as they hear about someone that doesn’t practice the religion being picked for a position in one of the god ruled nation’s governments.

A few hands lower but there is a student that seems to be internally debating whether or not to keep her hand raised. It is Shiozaki Ibarra. “Are there any other churches than those for Archons?” Nezu anticipated this question from this particular student. “There are. Most Archons don’t have churches in the traditional sense so chances are most churches you’ll see aren’t for archonism. The only church that you'd have to check for is ‘The Church of Favonius’ that worships the Anemo Archon, Barbatos. Other than that I’m sure you’ll be able to find one near where you’ll be staying online if you decide to go. You just might want to mention that you plan on attending church during your time there and what days of the week you plan on attending so that they can adjust your class schedule accordingly.” Ibarra seemed relieved at the information.

A hand raises after hearing his previous answer. Momo Yaoyorozu. “Sir, you mention class schedules as though we’ll have different schedules? Is that correct?” A good question as expected from Yaoyorozu. “Yes and no. You will all be in the same core, combat and heroics classes but Teyvat also offers elective classes on a variety of topics that any of you may or may not take.” Nezu could see quite a bit of interest in his student’s faces and maybe if his students really did enjoy electives then maybe he’d find a way to implement them in the future.

“Teyvat may have a successful hero course but it does not identify as a hero school like we here at U.A. do. They have many courses, most of them having little to nothing to do with heroics.” A look of confusion showed on many of his students' faces. It’s understandable for them being a hero was likely always the goal. It was one of the regrettable effects of their society. Most kids don’t grow up considering any other options. Most schools that have a hero course identify as a hero school automatically to get more students.

Another few more hands raise. Nezu points out another student signaling them to ask their question. Surprisingly it’s one of the students he didn’t think would raise their hands. Kinoko Komori, despite her dreams of being an idol as well as a hero, is rather shy. “What electives will we be allowed to choose?” Nezu hadn’t had the time to read through all the options. The suddenness of this situation is partially to blame for that. “I don’t know all of them and I will get back to you and anyone else interested with what Teyvat Academy has to offer. There is choir, art, fashion design, music, theater, law enforcement, economics, hospitality, world religion, psychology and computer science. There is much more but those are the ones that have been mentioned to me.” A few students seemed to perk up at the mention of some of the classes.

More questions were asked and answered until it was near the end of the day. Minoru Mineta is the second to last student he has time to get to today. “Are the chicks in Teyvat as hot as those goddesses in the pictures?” It was times like this Nezu regretted not running off the moment he gained human rights. “That is an inappropriate question.” Nezu says not dignifying that with any other response. Nezu sometimes seriously considers expelling that kid and it hasn’t even been a semester.

Itsuka Kendo was the last student to be picked. “While we’re in Teyvat where will we be staying and how are we going to get there?” That was something Nezu was more than happy to answer. Much more than the last question asked by Minoru Mineta. Nezu can only hope Aizawa and Sekijirou can keep the boy in line or he may be sent packing the first day. “You’ll be staying in a dorm building together on campus with both Mr. Aizawa and Mr.Sejijirou. As for how you’ll get there, you'll be taken on a boat by a Teyvat resident and her crew.”

The kids seemed excited about the idea of getting on a boat. Either that or just excited about the end of both the school day and the assembly. “There are consent forms that both you and your parents will need to sign and turn in by Friday if you want to go on the trip. Don’t forget to grab one on your way out. With that you are all dismissed.”

Notes:

Sorry about the shorter chapter today. I was having trouble coming up with questions the U.A kids would ask. Also want to get your guy’s opinion. Yay or nay on adding a few of my OCs?

Chapter 6: Ningaung’s dilemma

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Ningaung sat at her desk considering her options. The U.A. students and teachers would need a tour guide or guides for when they get to the island. Beidou and Kazuha are both out of the question. They’re already going out of their way to bring the U.A. students and teachers here in between their other jobs. Most students will likely want nothing to do with them at least for now. She can only hope eventually both students will come around to each other.

Any of the archons were out as well. They had all made it clear that they intended to stay in their respective dorms with their students. The students were stressed by this situation. She’s sure students like Wanderer or Xiao wouldn’t be able to make the U.A. students feel welcome. Keqing and Ganyu are busy with their student council duties and their courses during this situation.

It is then she decides it’s time to put out a commission to the Adventurer’s guild. She’d want this to be willing and not forced on the students and the Adventurer’s guild would be the most likely able to find willing volunteers. This way she’d also be able to provide a Mora reward along with the extra credit for their world culture classes that she was already planning.

She began filling out the online request form. It’s not really a hard form to fill out. The Adventurer's guild only asks for the name of commissioner, in this case it would be ‘Teyvat Academy’, Title for the commission, description of commission, and the reward expected upon completion. She made sure to put in the description that this was a job only for Academy students. Soon there'll be a commission hanging on the Adventurer’s Guild’s wall titled ‘Tour of Teyvat’.

Though it would be nice to have a backup plan just in case. Her eyes immediately fall onto a pair of student files clipped together. They both recently came in from Japan together. They are quite literally inseparable. They aren’t the most socially aware duo but they could better understand and tolerate the underlying prejudice of the outside world. Though admittedly one of them is a wild card. The stack of disciplinary reports clipped under the pair is a testament to that. The other one should be able to keep her in check… mostly at least.

There’s also the thought of calling in a favor from a certain pair of twins. They were in the same boat as most of the Natlan students at the moment though in that they are still recovering from the abyss invasion. They on top of that are also preparing to finish off the abyss with the Pyro archon. While it might be a good distraction for them it could also end up just adding to their stress.

If all else fails there’s always the option of doing the tour herself. It may not be the same as if it was a peer doing it but if none of the other options are able and willing then it is what she’ll have to go with. Her eyes land on a vase in her office reminding her of another reason why it wouldn’t be optimal. While she and Beidou often communicate through email and text messages, it is rare for them to be able to see each other in person for very long. Beidou’s expeditions are long and tend to be back to back and she herself has to stay in Liyue as both Tainquan and vice principal of Teyvat Academy. She’d prefer to be able to spend what little time Beidou has in the harbor with her but depending on how things go it may be necessary.

Notes:

Last chapter before the voyage. May not be very good because honestly I’ve been sick this whole time. However the 4 options being thought about my Ningaung are all about options I’ve thought about for who will play the role of tour guide. I will decide for sure by next chapter. Also I’m now also posting this on Wattpad.

Chapter 7: The Ship is here

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Momo Yaoyorozu had a hard time convincing her parents to sign the permission form but she had managed it with a reminder that the richest woman in the world was working at Teyvat Academy and that they had never gotten the chance to connect with her until that point. Also the possibility of her being able to learn to make visions with her quirk caught her parents attention enough for them to agree. Now it was the Saturday after they all turned in their permission slips. With the reputation of Teyvat Academy and Teyvat in general she can’t help feeling a bit surprised that all of 1-A and 1-B managed to get permission.

Regardless they were all here now in their school uniforms that they were directed to come in. It made sense. They probably want to give Teyvat a good impression of their school. They were now waiting for Mr. Sekijirou and the boat that would be taking them to Teyvat. Mr. Aizawa still hasn’t woken up yet. It’s something that worries the entire class but she and everyone knows that they have to have faith in him that he’ll recover.

As vice representative of the class she was currently helping Iida keep their class organized and making sure no one forgot anything. Though Iida was also yelling something about a single file line to get on the boat more efficiently while their chaperone wasn’t even here yet. Personally she sees no problem with letting her classmates talk amongst themselves during this time. Especially since quite a few appear to be nervous. Then again maybe she wasn’t class representative for a reason. Even Midoriya had gotten more votes than her originally. That had wounded her pride but it just means she has to work harder now.

Despite their best efforts the rest of the class was instead grouped up with their friends as Iida seemed to deflate a bit. “So, Yaomomo what do you think about this?” Asked a familiar voice, Kyoka Jirou. Hearing herself being called by a nickname was still a little surprising for her. She thought about it for a moment before answering. “I think it’ll be a good experience for us as a class. If whatever methods they have aren’t abusive yet have good enough results to turn quirkless people into heroes then imagine how proficient we could become. If they are abusive then we can protect the students and even save them.”

The shorter girl nodded along at that. Despite not knowing each other for very long Momo felt as though Jirou was someone she could call a friend. Especially after being stuck with her and Denki during the USJ. It brought them closer together. She never got to have many friends before now. Perhaps this trip will give her a chance to not only become closer to her class but also to maybe some of the students in Teyvat. That’s a nice thought.

“That’s true. I have to admit I’m curious about what their music is like. I hadn’t thought about it till Principal Nezu mentioned music as an elective. Their music and our music is probably pretty different. They’ve been isolated for so long.” That was an interesting thought. What other kinds of things would be different? “I take it that you’re going to be going for music as your elective then?” A computer science class was mentioned before so they likely at least also have modern technology. “Yeah, I wonder if they have rock there?” Before the conversation could continue, Vlad King had shown up.

“Hello, students. Some of you know me and some of you don’t. I’m Vlad King or Sekijirou Kan. You all may feel free to call me ‘Mr. Sekijirou’ or ‘Mr. King’ if you prefer. I’ll be one of your chaperones for this trip. Aizawa is still recovering from the injuries he sustained during the USJ incident. He will join us once he has recovered enough to travel. For now start getting your stuff together, the ship from Teyvat will be arriving in 20 minutes. If you leave anything we can’t come back for it after we board.” With that Momo knew her conversation with Jirou would have to be ended early. She and Iida would likely be helping the rest of the class check their luggage.

It takes a while for both reps and vice reps to get their respective classes and their own items in order. However she did get to see who the reps are. A redheaded girl and short silver haired boy. Momo herself is beginning to think her maid was right in her having packed too much. Her luggage looked like it was half of her classes total. Momo looks out into the water and sees a large ship that looks like it came out of one of her fantasy novels. It’s still a long way out but it being visible shows that they decided to get ready at the right time. Her and Iida as well as the class 1-b reps started getting their classes in two lines. Mr. Sekijirou watched the whole time.

A moment later the ship had docked and a woman lowered the plank revealing herself. She was a beautiful woman with long brown hair and a cloth eyepatch over one of her eyes. Her visible eye was a reddish brown. Her clothes look similar to Chinese ones. For example the red qipoa she’s wearing over a black leotard. She has a white fur lined red shawl. On her waist is what she immediately identifies as an electro vision. From the back of the line she can tell Mineta has noticed some of her outfits more… appealing features. Like the slits going up to her hips and her exposed chest. She wonders how he managed to get into UA much less the hero course.

She very conveniently looks away the moment Jirou stabs her earphone jack into his ear. She definitely also didn’t hear his scream. Beidou looked over at Mr. Sekijirou, and silently asked if he was going to do anything. She seemed unimpressed by his lack of action. She turned back to the two classes in front of her. “Well, you all seem like a lively bunch. Watch your step walking up the plank. We’ll start introductions on board. There is a very tight schedule we have to keep.”

Both classes boarded in a single file line with Mr. Sekijirou boarding last. After everyone boarded a boy with ash blond hair with a red streak in the front, started pulling the plank up. He seemed around their age if not a little older. “Alright students and teacher, my name is Beidou. I’m the captain of the crux fleet. We’ll be departing for Teyvat shortly. Feel free to let some of our crew members take your bags down to your barracks. We got some ground rules to go over. After that-“

The ash blond haired boy with the red streak walked up next to Captain Beidou. His clothes and looks are more visible now. He’s wearing a black haori coat over a grey short sleeved kimono. He also has a maple leaf design on red hakama pants with black leg plating. He seemed rather calm. “My son, Kazuha, will show you to your barracks.” Captain Beidou says, gesturing to the boy who was apparently her son.

“Rule one, if I say go below deck, go below deck. There’s likely either an electro storm or a sea monster and either situation is very dangerous. Rule two, respect my crew. They work hard making sure we get to our destination. Rule three, make sure to have some hobbies while you’re here. Being at sea for a while can mess with your mind if you leave it unoccupied. We have game nights and photography classes for those that are interested. Any questions?” While Beidou was talking some of the crew would approach some students and ask about taking their bags.

Momo felt worried at the mention of sea monsters and electro storms. Either Teyvat is more behind than anyone thought. They still believe in sea monsters and don’t understand thunderstorms. Momo raises her hand. “Yes, you with the ponytail.” “What’s the difference between a thunderstorm and an electro storm?” Captain Beidou answers rather casually. “The difference is that electro storms are caused by the electro archon and tend to get more violent or calm depending on her mood. Luckily electro users are able to reliably redirect any lightning strikes.” The electro archon causes storms? It makes somewhat sense but also seems dangerous. “Electro storms only happen in the waters around Inazuma. We will be passing the island on our way to the harbor.” A rather large crew member soon came up to her and spoke quietly to not interrupt the rest of the students or Beidou. “May I take your luggage?” Momo nodded and she was about to mention it being a lot but the guy simply picked it all up like it was nothing.

Momo saw Midoriya raise his hand as well. “You, green haired kid, what’s your question?” “Um… what exactly did you mean by sea monster?” “Teyvat’s wildlife isn’t the same as the rest of the world’s. We have sea monsters, kitsune, and qilin. A good chunk of things that are mythical or fictional to you is a Tuesday for most of us. A while after I formed my crew even before I got my vision we ended up having to fight for four days straight against a leviathan. Slaying it was actually how I got my vision but many new crews aren’t that lucky. Which is why those not experienced in fighting monsters go below deck if we run into one.”

This made everyone including Momo herself wonder what would be in store for them on this trip. Beidou was as far as she was aware quirkless like most of Teyvat’s population and defeated a monster without even a vision. It felt impossible. Momo never considered herself to be a quirkist but quirkless people are just naturally at a disadvantage. Yet somehow they were not only living but thriving in a land with apparently more dangers than just villains and natural disasters. Either her views would be challenged here or the so-called monsters are exaggerated. She could tell most of her classmates were having similar thoughts. She heard Bakugou huff annoyed. She knew he’d be trying to prove himself superior the moment they got off the boat. As angry and volatile he is, he’s not stupid. No one here besides Captain Beidou and her crew know how to run a ship.

“If there aren’t any more questions, Kazuha will show you to your barracks. Mr. Sekijirou we can talk more about the details of the trip later tonight if you’d like.” Momo refused to acknowledge the look on Mineta’s face at Beidou's last words. She definitely didn’t hear the words ‘It should have been me!’ from the smaller boy that was unfortunately her classmate. Kazuha looked unimpressed at Mineta but seemed to not want to cause conflict. “Follow me, I'll show you all where you’ll be staying. Boys and girls will be separated, if anyone feels uncomfortable with that then we can work on a different solution.”

Kazuha led them down to where the barracks were. They were now on the second level of the ship. Momo noticed they walked past a few doors. One looked like it went into a kitchen. Some looked like other barracks, probably for the crew. Others seemed to be a break room, bathrooms and storage. Kazuha pointed out the restroom and kitchen, specifically Kazuha stopped at a door. “The boys will be staying here. Once you’re settled feel free to explore the rest of the ship. The crew brought your things here earlier if you allowed them. If there are any problems let anyone on the crew know or you can go straight to captain Beidou.” Momo found it a bit strange that despite Captain Beidou being his mother, Kazuha still called her by Beidou or Captain Beidou. Kazuha waited for all the boys to go into the Barracks and for the door to close. “Your room will be back this way. The wind told me that the short one with purple balls on his head would probably try to peek if I let him see where you’d all be staying.” Kazuha said addressing the group of girls. His voice is calm and matter of fact yet kind.

Momo didn’t quite understand what he meant by the wind telling him but to be honest she wouldn’t put it past Mineta to try something while they were asleep if given the chance. Kazuha started to lead them back in the direction they came from. “Here is where you girls will be staying. If there’s anything you need, feel free to talk to the crew or Captain Beidou directly. You are free to explore the ship once you’re settled.” There it was again he called Captain Beidou by her title and not mom. He had practically disappeared before she could ask about it. Then again that may be a question best left for a private conversation. “So what did you all think of that Kazuha guy? He’s pretty cute, if a little weird.” Mina asks the group, interrupting Momo’s train of thought.

Notes:

Sorry if this chapter is poor quality. The illness I was mentioned last chapter ended up turning into the throat infection from hell. Good new is I only got one more day of meds to go and then I should be good. Also happy late holidays everyone! Btw I didn’t forget about the decision for who was going to guide the mha characters around Teyvat and it’s not going to be the OCs but they may get a cameo. Now I’m going to go pass the fuck out.

Chapter Text

Mina Ashido watched as her comment caused a debate across the room. This would be fun. She wasn’t lying though the Kazuha guy was cute but she’s pretty sure he’s older than them anyway. Plus he lives all the way here in Teyvat and despite the mention of them having technology and them reaching out to the school via email, she hasn’t seen any actual technology. It was strange but she had heard online it was good to sometimes get away from technology for a while. Maybe this would be her chance to try it out. She’s tried it before but it never lasted long.

“He’s cute but not for me. He seems a bit… spacey.” Uraraka said in reply to Mina’s earlier question. Mina decides to tease her a bit. “Yeah but that’s because your type is Midori.” Uraraka’s face turned red at the mention of her crush. “I don’t know what you’re talking about!” The girl said oh so convincingly as she nearly canceled her own gravity. “That’s enough teasing her.” Yaoyorozu says saving Uraraka from her fate before steering the conversation back to where it was before. “He seems like a nice guy, if a bit odd. It’s strange how he calls Captain Beidou by her title.”

“It could just be a time and place thing.” Said a red haired girl from class 1-b that Mina doesn’t know. “I call my dad ‘Sensei’ when we’re at my family’s dojo. It could just be a show of there not being any favoritism thing?” Everyone seemed to accept that conclusion. Tsu was the one to speak up next. “Besides we don’t know their life or situation. It’d be a bad idea to jump to conclusions.” Tsu truly is the voice of reason in the group because it’s true. They don’t know these people. It could mean something, it could mean nothing. Assuming wrong could cause issues and maybe even burn the bridge before they even get to cross it. Mina may not know books but she knows people and interrogating them over what could be nothing is not the way to make friends.

“So then it’s best for us to just keep an eye on it and wait for more information?” Mina asked her own way of making sure everyone agreed to the decision. Words of confirmation filled the room for a moment. With that there was chatter as Mina and the rest of the girls settled in. They weren’t exactly sure how long they’d be on the ship so most opted to keep their luggage mostly packed. It just made it easier for when they’d need to repack eventually. Especially for Yaoyorozu. Poor girl’s luggage took over half of what the girls had. That’s going to suck for her when she has to repack again at the end of the trip. Mina soon noticed she was about done with unpacking her essentials.

It should be about time when it’s fine to change into something more comfortable. Might also make her more approachable. Mina pulled out her favorite dark purple t-shirt. She always liked it because of the bright green english word spelling out ‘Acid’. She always found it ironic and fun. She then picked out a pair of shorts. It was warm out after all. She quickly got changed into the outfit. There was about a 50/50 split on who changed and who didn’t. “I’m going out to explore the rest of the ship. See you guys later!” Mina called out as she left the barracks to go explore. Mina soon found her way back onto the deck just in time to watch as the anchor was pulled up and the land slowly got further away. Her instinct was to pull out her phone for a photo to post but remembered she had limited battery and probably wouldn’t have cell service here. She settled for just a quick photo for now. She wants to be able to call her parents when she gets to Teyvat after all.

“It’s a strange feeling watching your homeland get further and further away for the first time, isn’t it?” Said a voice from behind her. Mina turned to look behind her to see that Kazuha had seemingly appeared out of nowhere laying on the railing of the ship. How he was keeping himself balanced, Mina had no idea. He seemed to be speaking from experience. “For some it brings anxiety, to others it’s freeing.” Kazuha continues to say.

“For me it’s exciting! I’ve never been outside of Japan before and not many people have been to Teyvat before.” Mina says, sounding excited. Kazuha nods at that. Mina had noticed earlier the strange glowing teal stone in the gold casing attached to a red rope on the back of his shoulder. If she remembers right it has the Anemo symbol on it. “Is the thing on your back an Anemo vision?” Kazuha seems surprised at the question. “It is. I’m surprised you know what it is.” Mina can’t help but feel excited that she correctly identified a vision. “It looks different from your mom’s.” “That’s because they’re different elements but if you mean the casings, then that’s because of the fact that we got our visions at different places. I got mine in Inazuma and my mom got hers in Liyue’s sea.” Mina recognized both the names of Liyue and Inazuma. “Liyue is the place we’re heading, right?” Mina watched as Kazuha nodded. “That’s right. We should make it in time for you to experience Lantern Rite.” Kazuha said, discreetly changing the conversation topic before Mina could ask about Inazuma. “What’s that?” Mina asks curiously. She’s never heard of it before. “It’s Liyue’s holiday to remember those that were lost to the Archon War. People from all around Teyvat come to celebrate at the festival they hold.”

Mina felt worried when she heard that. She’d definitely need to mention that to her classmates. It seemed like an odd thing to have a festival for. “What kind of stuff do you guys do during Lantern Rite?” Kazuha answers with something she didn’t expect. “There’s usual food mstalls, games, even light puppet shows for kids and whoever else wants to watch. It’s different every year. The thing it gets its name from and that stays the same every year is that everyone releases lanterns into the sky.” It seemed a lot more lighthearted than she originally thought. In fact it seemed like it’d be fun to go to.

She’d definitely have to bring it up to the others later. She’d also need to pick out something to wear. “That sounds like fun! Is there any kind of dress code for going?” Kazuha shook his head. “Not really, some people dress up, some people don’t. It depends on your preference.” Mina nodded along with what Kazuha was saying, thoughts of what she could wear already forming. She’d need to check what she brought with her. “Awesome! I’ll have to tell the others about it to see if we can go.” Kazuha nodded at that. “Will you guys go to Lantern Rite?” Kazuha seemed to think for a moment before answering. “It depends if we’ll be in Liyue when it happens.” Mina felt a little sad at that. It sucks that the crew might have to miss Lantern Rite. Did Beidou give them time off?

“That sucks! Can’t you try to convince your mom to let you guys go? It’s like you guys are trapped here.” Mina watched as Kazuha seemed a bit annoyed. “We don’t just sail to sail. We have a job to do. We import and export goods all around Teyvat. Some of those goods can’t wait. We can’t just delay people getting what they need just to go to a festival. If we can this year trust me my mom would be the first off the boat to join the festivities.” That was the most Mina heard the soft spoken boy say since she met him. It made her feel kind of bad because he’s right it’s unfair to expect everyone to just close up shop for a festival. Her words were insensitive. Before she could apologize though Kazuha seemed to vanish into the wind.

Notes:

I have returned after fighting my throat infection which… may or may not be still ongoing not 100% sure, a chest X-ray and fighting the US government about whether my autism affects my ability to work. Kazuha is probably out of character in this but there is an explanation for that. Venti’s agitated due to the knowledge that people from outside Teyvat is coming which is bleeding into the winds and since Kazuha is extra sensitive to that it’s affecting him too. This is all unconsciously happening.

Chapter Text

Venti is pissed. In his opinion Asmoday was stepping out of line in this whole situation. Ningaung may trust UA but he doesn’t and he’s supposed to allow them around the Mondstadt dorms and near his students. Ninggaung told him it wouldn’t be like last time but there was no telling until it either happened or didn’t. At least he had permission ahead of time to retaliate should Mondstadt or his people be threatened. It also doesn’t help that three of his first years are the ones that are going to be having the most interaction with them. He can’t help but worry about them getting hurt. He can’t bring himself to stop them despite his worry. After all, they freely choose to take the commission.

He found his thoughts blowing back to the last time outsiders came. It was when Teyvat Academy just opened due to Teyvat the continent just being discovered. Them being found caused visions starting to appear all over the world. People from the world hero association came and tried to interrogate them about what was happening. When they came to Mondstadt for his turn getting interrogated, they attempted to take over Mondstadt and force heroes into the city to replace the knights. He was forced to reveal himself to defend his nation’s freedom. They called his nation, his people, unsightly, disorderly and lawless. None of which was true and they had no evidence of.

He feels bad for the actions he took that day. Not because he doesn’t think they deserved it. They absolutely did after they attacked a cryo vision user for using their vision in public. The poor kid looked ready to cry when they got in his face. They were trying to enforce their own ignorant laws onto a nation that wasn’t theirs. Of course he had to step in. The reason he feels bad is because the incident left Teyvat the victim of baseless rumors and accusations. Asmoday and Ningaung had words for him but couldn’t entirely blame him for it.

He needed to calm himself down. At this rate there will be tornadoes showing up in Mondstadt if he doesn’t get it together. He closed his eyes on a Mondstadt rooftop and opened them in the branches of The Symbol of Mondstadt’s Hero. The large oak tree reminds him of his old friend and brings him some comfort. It was enough to bring a small smile back to his face. Vanessa was a true hero unlike those bastards who give the title to just anyone who passes a few classes. He takes a deep breath and pulls out his lyre. He slowly begins plucking at the strings, trying to find a melody to get lost in. Eventually he finds it. He lets himself get lost in it feeling nothing but the melody. He may be the greatest bard in all of Mondstadt but sometimes it’s nice to play for an audience of no one but himself.

Like this he could just forget about everything and everyone. He neither had to be Venti or Barbatos. He can just be a part of the wind once again. He felt truly and completely free whenever he played like this. He can feel his carefree nature being brought back to him. The winds also seem to calm even if there’s still some slight irritation under the surface.

It is at that moment Venti feels a vibration in his pocket. He grumbles half heartedly to himself at the interruption. He fishes out the outsider device that Ningaung insisted all Teyvat Academy staff keep on them at all times. He turns it on to see a notification of an email from Beidou of all people.

From: [email protected]
To: [email protected]

So don’t know if this has anything to do with you or if you know anything about it, but do you happen to know anything about why Kazuha has seemingly randomly entered his angsty phase and almost snapped at one of our guests? Only thing he’s said about it is that the wind is more agitated the closer we get to Teyvat.

Venti’s eyes read over the email and sighed to himself. Of course Kazuha, the Anemo course student with the closest connection to the element, was affected. He sighed to himself as he thought about how he’d explain the situation to Beidou. It seems like today was really not his day. He began typing knowing that an explanation was in order.

Notes:

Health has improved thank god. If only the coughing would stop. Btw it was Mika that got harassed by heroes. Bro was just trying to heal himself but got police brutalitied before Venti came to the rescue.

Chapter Text

Shiozaki Ibara knew most of her classmates were surprised that she was willing to come. There were two reasons she came. One that she told her parents and one that a dark part of herself, that she didn’t want to acknowledge, had. The one she told her parents was that she wanted to save the people who were probably unknowingly worshiping false idols. The second one that she hasn’t told anyone was she found herself curious how people could believe in so many gods but pick and choose which to worship as well as what would happen if someone got a vision for a god they didn’t worship. Would they be obligated to worship that god? These thoughts however were sinful. She shouldn’t wonder about other religions. It would make god believe she’s unfaithful.

She needed to purge such thoughts out of her mind before they push her to act on them. She grabbed her Bible that she left on her bed earlier and began reading. It was unlikely she’d be disturbed as the only ones besides her left in the room were Yanagi, Kodai, and Kinoko. None of them are particularly talkative but she’s personally convinced Yanagi and Kodai have some secret form of communication. She’d prefer not to know. Kinoko was pacing around the room, likely feeling anxious about the amount of new people here. Maybe she can suggest some passages to her later.

Just as she was getting through the first passage, everyone in the room including herself jumped at the sudden abundance of noise at the top deck. As heroes in training of course all of their first instincts were to immediately go up to see what was going on. Upon reaching the top. Ibarra hears the sound of the captain yelling orders at the crew as well as for the students to get down. Ibarra intended to follow the orders she really did but she was struck still by the sight of what she could only describe as a portal to hell opening up beside the trip. It wasn’t the fire and brimstone the Bible described though. It was cold, terror inducing darkness that was behind that portal. A strange creature that almost looked like a wolf with their skeleton exposed traveled through.

“UA People get below deck now!” Captain Beidou yelled, pulling a large black and red sword out from behind her. Kazuha seemingly just appeared beside her. Ibarra could have sworn she didn’t see him there before. “LIKE HELL I’M GOING DOWN THERE LIKE A COWARD. YOU DON’T GET TO TELL ME WHAT TO FUCKING DO, QUIRKLESS BITCH!” The vulgar boy from class 1-A yelled before using his explosions to blast himself towards one of the hellhounds. The boy landed an explosion directly on the hellhound but it seemed to do almost nothing and just shook him off, luckily throwing him in the ship’s direction letting Kazuha catch him. “Kazuha, get the kid to the healer below deck!” Captain Beidou ordered. Kazuha didn’t argue but he seemed irritated but not by Captain Beidou. He passed her as he went down below deck. “You should get lower. The captain has this more than handled.” Is all he said as he passed her. She was in too much shock to take his advice. She watched as Captain Beidou prepared her sword to strike, a dome of purple energy, electro if she remembers right, that almost seems to be protecting her forms. She was about to strike when Mr. Sekijirou’s blood binding attempt didn’t even faze the beast. It easily broke through the binding attempt with some of the hardened blood still sticking to it while the rest fell into the water. At the same time this happened Captain Beidou’s blade struck, sending a massive amount of that purple electro energy out and landing the hit on the hellhound. It was the first time during the whole fight something managed to actually damage it and it let out a terrifying howling.

Kazuha runs past her back out to the fight, not even seeming to notice she’s still present. The Hellhound, still affected by Captain Beidou’s attack. She couldn’t help but be surprised that out of everyone the quirkless captain was able to do the most damage. God loves all but it’s usually only those blessed with quirks that protect the rest. It was why she wanted to become a hero. Kazuha the other quirkless, at least she thinks he’s quirkless, fighter unsheathes his weapon and calls out. “Falling leaves adorn my night!” A barrier of wind appears around the creature as strangely enough the wind picks up the electro around and begins striking the hellhound from all sides.

Captain Beidou begins preparing another attack, the electric dome appearing around her once again. As she does so the hellhound begins to seemingly prepare an attack of its own, letting out an otherworldly growl that sends shivers down Ibarra’s spine. It lunges for her and surprisingly she doesn’t at all try to dodge it. Kazuha doesn’t even seem to move to help his mother but has his hand on his blade. Ibarra’s mind screamed at her to go help but something told her that she wasn’t needed and would cause more problems than she would fix. Suddenly the green haired boy from 1-A jumped in front of Captain Beidou with green energy bouncing off his arm as he readied himself for a punch. Captain Beidou grabs by the back of his shirt and pulls him behind her as the Hellhound hits her sword causing the electro dome to push the Hellhound back and cause even more damage at this point it was almost defeated. The red and white haired son of the number 2 hero throws a blast of ice out at the creature making an ice wall around it. The beast writhes as it nearly frees itself once again. Kazuha, seemingly seeing a chance, jumps down with the beast onto the ice and uses wind to throw himself and wind mixed with ice up in the air around the Hellhound. His move finished off the beast as it disintegrated into nothing. Kazuha uses that move once again to get himself back into the ship.

Ibarra felt a new respect for the two quirkless after watching them defeat such a hellspawn. Of course some of the 1-a kids and her own teacher helped. She sees Captain Beidou look over the railing of the ship. She glares at Mr.Sekijirou for some reason. She calls out orders to the crew once again. “Tell the students it’s safe now and we need to start moving before something catches a scent!” Several of the crew begin getting to work and as she sees one coming close she remembers she’s not supposed to be here and quickly gets back to the girl’s bunks. Unknown to her a certain short purple haired boy watched and learned which was the girl’s room.

Notes:

Kazuha and Beidou would usually have finished this fight in moments but kept getting interrupted and having heroes get in the way. Beidou will definitely have words with Vlad about the kids behavior and his lack of addressing it. Btw first fight scene I’ve written and we’re so close to 500 kudos!

Chapter Text

Beidou was quick to check on the kid behind her. The green lightning that was around his arm seemed untamed and uncontrolled. The boy’s arm was now red and seemed to be one big bruise. “Shit.” She muttered under her breath. “Come on, kid, you need to see a healer. That arm doesn’t look too good.” It was then when her attention was off the boy's arm she saw that he was looking at her like she did the impossible. “Captain Beidou, that was amazing! Do you actually have a quirk?” Of course he assumes she has a quirk. At least the kid is fine enough to think about that. Still she needs to get him to a healer. “No I don’t, kid. That was just myself and my vision. Now let’s go see the healer.” That seemed to get the kid more excited as he started muttering to himself. The kid followed after her asking her question after question about visions and her vision specifically.

“What made you pick electro? The presentation mentioned it was for those that stay true to themselves no matter what. Do you get to decide that or is there some kind of test or maybe an interview of some kind?” The kid continues to ramble without giving her a chance to answer. It was a very common misconception to think that someone picks their vision. “I didn’t pick my vision. Nobody does. A vision manifests in front of you when your ambitions grow so strong even the gods hear it and decide to grant you a portion of their power to support it.” She could hear the kid muttering to himself more but none of his words are clear enough for her to follow at this point again. Luckily for her they got to the healer’s room before things got awkward.

The scene she walked in on was one that wasn’t surprising but was disappointing. The blond kid was yelling more curses at the poor healer. The poor girl was only here for her medical internship. The hydro vision strapped to her arm glowed as she held him down and she healed his wounds with it. “Worthless, quirkless, one eyed bitch! I ain’t a stupid weakling like Deku’s ass! I don’t need your healing!” “Your broken ribs disagree.” The healer said dryly. Beidou could see that the blond boy was being healed. “There, you’re done.” She let the blond boy up. Sparks immediately start to come from his hands. He moves to strike her but Beidou steps in and grabs his wrist before he can make contact with her healer. “Strike 2, kid. 3 strikes and you won’t even make it to Teyvat before you’re sent home. Tsukiko, are you okay?” The healer nods. “Fine. Used to deal with this type of stuff all the time back in Japan. Thank you for the assistance, captain. Now I assume that is my next patient?” The black haired girl said. Her one working light green eye on the green haired boy. Beidou lets the blond boy go after getting a glare from him and grumbles about “stupid quirkless cheaters”. He storms out knocking the green haired boy’s injured arm as he leaves causing the green haired boy to wince.

Tsukiko, her healer, hasn’t been part of Teyvat for very long, and part of Beidou’s crew for even less time but she’s proved herself reliable. Beidou nodded with a knowing smile knowing just what she got the poor girl into with her next patient. The girl was an oddity even among Teyvat. A silver vision casing was rare enough, add on that she is an outsider as well and that’s even more rare. The girl’s blinded eye also attracts attention. Probably why she prefers to stay in the med bay most of the time rather than the deck or talking with other crew members. What really set her apart from others was the second vision, this one electro that was fastened on her back in a way that seemed purposefully easy to pull off. It wasn’t her vision but it did spark with electro energy regularly due to the actual owner being nearby. Even right now it was sparking but it was more similar to when a vision user loses control due to emotion. They were likely present now and angered by the attempted attack on Tsukiko. She never met the vision’s owner but she knew that was due to them not wanting to be seen. From what she understood most humans can’t see the vision’s owner unless they want to be seen. She did sometimes notice Tsukiko talking to herself which was more likely her talking to the vision’s owner. All of these things would cause the green haired boy to likely spend most of the healing session firing nonstop questions at her.

“Good luck, I got a meeting with the chaperoning teacher to get to.” Beidou says leaving the poor girl to her fate. Beidou made her way to her deck again. She looked up to the sky to see the sun getting close to setting, meaning it’s almost time for Vlad King to show up for their meeting. Beidou let herself relax for a moment and with these kids it'll probably be one of few chances she has. She closed her eyes and listened to the sound of the waves for a moment. The pirate soon heard the sound of the teacher's footsteps. “You’re early, that makes this easier.” Vlad King didn’t seem to be in a good mood. “What the hell was that?!” Beidou sighed, of course he had to be difficult. “That was a Rifthound. They’re common in Teyvat. We’re actually lucky considering they usually arrive in packs. We warned you there’d be monsters. We warned you your quirks weren’t going to be any help for most of them.” “Well now two of my students are injured!” The pro hero said angrily, starting to get into her face. She wasn’t intimidated by him. “If you bothered to check on them like I did you’d know that first, one of them has already healed of his injuries and the other is currently being healed. Second, the first one attempted to assault my healer.” Vlad King seemed to stagger at being talked back to by her. “Do you have any proof of the attempted assault?” She knew he knew it was true but he wouldn’t take responsibility unless it was forced and even then he’d make excuses. “That if my healer wishes it will be decided in the Liyue courts. If not, then you don’t need to know. I made it very clear earlier that my crew is to be treated with respect. So far I’ve seen very little of that. If my orders for you all to get lower in the ship were followed then your students wouldn’t need a healer in the first place. However since your students unfortunately never learned how to follow simple orders they got sent to medbay. When I went to check on the first kid and escort the second kid, what did I see when I got there? Your student, swinging to hit my healer with his quirk while screaming at her. I’m not even getting into the reports of blatant quirkism and sexual harassment I’ve gotten from my crew against your students. They haven’t even been here for a day.” Beidou can feel herself getting angry. Vlad King didn’t seem to be taking in or thinking about a single word she said.

“They’re children. You can’t expect them to always follow your orders or know exactly how to behave.” Beidou can’t believe the stupidity of this man. “That’s what discipline is for. To teach them how to follow orders and how to behave. Clearly UA doesn’t bother with it. All that you’ll create are immature, easily manipulated super soldiers for your government, not heroes.” There’s a silence between them and she can see that Vlad King is practically seething. “We’ll make it to Liyue in 2 more days. Before that we will be making a short stop in Inazuma. It’s a chance for you all to get to walk on land for a bit and for Kazuha to visit someone important.” Beidou says being the last one to speak as she leave for her quarters.

Notes:

Take a wild guess on who Kazuha is visiting.

As for why I made Vlad this way? He doesn’t have much characterization and allows Kendo, a child, to be the one to **physically** discipline Monama, another child. Pretty sure that’s not good for either of them or their relationship.

Also OCs cameo is here! Izuku will get a P.O.V with them but then they shall be swallowed into the abyss never to be seen again.

Chapter Text

Izuku Midoriya felt the cool soothing feeling of the hydro energy from the healer. He watched in amazement as the girl who seemed only a few years older than him healed his arm completely. He didn’t even feel tired like he would if Recovery Girl did. He noticed from what was mentioned earlier that the girl was also from Japan. He knows Kacchan said she was quirkless earlier but he should ask before assuming. “I know Kacchan assumed that you didn’t have a quirk earlier but do you have one?” The girl paused for a moment but not as though she was thinking but more like she was listening to someone.

“Technically yes. Practically it’d be better if I didn’t have one.” That felt like a slap to the face to Izuku. This girl was blessed with a quirk yet she refused to use it and wished she didn’t have it! He would have killed for any kind of quirk back when he was quirkless. “What do you mean it’d be better not to have it?! Quirks are amazing.” The girl rolled her eyes at him and went to go grab something from one of the shelves that seemed to be stocked with medical supplies. “Not mine. I’d appreciate it if you dropped the subject. This isn’t exactly a happy topic for me. You don’t get it because you’re too deep in the quirk supremacy mindset to see how much damage your own quirk causes you. For that I pity you. One day you’ll be able to predict the weather from how much your bones ache.” She said bluntly, reaching out for a container on the shelf. As she almost grabbed it, suddenly it moved itself out of the way. Izuku at this time noticed the second vision that was fastened to her back. That one was electro rather than the hydro one on her arm. How did she have two visions? And what did she mean by him being a quirk supremacist? He didn’t think that he was a quirk supremacist. It was just a fact that people with quirks can do more than people without. When the girl attempted to grab the container again it once again moved out of her grasp. He wondered if it had anything to do with her quirk.

“Is your quirk moving the container?” The girl for some reason sounded annoyed as she sighed. “No. It’s someone else that doesn’t want me to give it to you.” She says finally snatching the container away from whatever was moving it. That only left him with more questions. She’s the unreasonable one here, not him. Why would they be mad at him? As she walks back to him with the container something else gets actually thrown off the shelf. Tsukiko glares at something that he couldn’t see in the corner before turning back to him. “This should help with the aches and pains of your previous injuries. I can’t fix them but I can at least lessen your pain. Please be more careful in the future.” As she held out the containers for him he noticed scars on both of her wrists in the exact same spot. They didn’t look self-inflicted at least.

“That is what happens every time I use my quirk. Each time I run the risk of bleeding out and/or causing permanent damage to my wrists. That is a risk I can’t take. Not yet at least. It seems you haven’t learned the responsibility that comes with being relied on yet.” Izuku knew there were quirks with dangerous drawbacks but this was beyond what he’s seen before. She lived with the constant threat of death if she slipped up and used her quirk. It was horrifying to see just how wrong quirks can go. If she didn’t have a quirk she would be weaker though. After all, someone without a quirk can’t be a hero. Even All Might said it.

“Now that you’re healed and have the cream, time for you to go. You’re taking up space in my medbay and I’d prefer if Eris stopped throwing things off my shelves in protest.” The girl said, giving another glare to the corner of the room. “Is Eris the name of the person that doesn’t like me?” Tsukiko seems to internally debate to herself if she’s willing to talk about it or not. “Yes. She already doesn’t like most humans. She’s right to be upset. I wish she just didn’t show it like a tantruming child.” After Tsukiko said that last part, another container flew off the shelf directly. This time it hit her in the head. “Eris, I swear to the fucking Shougun!” Tsukiko yelled at the unseen and unheard person. He took this as his opportunity to leave with the plastic container she gave him earlier. He still doesn’t understand what he did to upset Eris or even what they are. Tsukiko has said Eris isn’t her quirk. Maybe they’re something unique to Teyvat? Maybe once Tsukiko sees reason he can ask her more about it. Maybe she’ll even be more open to talking about her quirk whenever she realizes that she’s lucky to have one. It may be a difficult one but she could probably learn to use it safely if she practiced with it enough. Like he was doing now. He just needed to learn how to use the quirk All Might gave him properly and he won’t have to worry about broken bones anymore.

With his new resolve that he won’t give up on or take for granted his new quirk like Tsukiko has, he heads to the boy’s bunks to think of new ideas. When he walks in, Mineta walks out with a black bag with him. Izuku didn’t think anything of it. He refuses to try to understand Mineta’s motives most of the time. He pulls out the notebook he brought with him to write down everything he’d learn on this trip. He begins with an entry on Captain Beidou’s abilities. He had to admit she’s strong for someone who is quirkless. He wrote about the red and black sword she was wielding, the purple electrical dome around her, and about the way her electricity combined with Kazuha’s wind. He also drew some doodles to better illustrate his notes for future reference. By the time he was done with the entry he looked up to find he was one of the last few awake. Oddly enough Mineta was still missing. He was about to voice this when the sound of a girl’s scream rang through the ship.

Notes:

This was originally going to be a bit longer but I thought this would be a good time to switch P.O.Vs. Everyone say goodbye to Tsukiko and Eris forever. They got swallowed by the abyss never to be seen again. I’m willing to answer questions about their situation if anyone is curious.

Chapter 13: Who could have ever guessed this would happen?

Notes:

Trigger warning Mineta. I wasn’t super descriptive with it but this was painful to write and this might be painful to read if you are sensitive to it. I will add this emoji ♥️ After that part is over if you’d still want to read this chapter.

Chapter Text

Kinoko Komori was sleeping after the stressful day she had. She hadn’t even left the bunks and her social anxiety can’t take this. She was still getting used to being around her own class but now she had to get used to 1-A and a ship crew too. It’s no wonder how she passed out almost as soon as her head hit the pillow. That was at least until she felt something on her chest as she slept. She, still half asleep, rolled over to get away from it, not thinking about what it was. That was when the touch moved back and squeezed. Her eyes immediately shot open and she screamed. She was met with the sight of that short kid from 1-A looking down and smiling weirdly at her. She scrambled to get away from him and push away.

♥️

Luckily her scream woke up everyone else in the bunk. Ibarra immediately came to her rescue, vines wrapping around the boy and yanking him away from her. It was the boy’s turn to scream. “Filthiest of sinners.” She heard Ibarra mutter as she kept the boy from getting away. Kinoko felt her heart racing in her chest, adrenaline fresh in her system as another came rushing in. Kazuha rushed in sword in hand. “What happened?” He asked as his eyes assessed the situation. He takes a more calm stance once he sees the small boy has already been trapped in vines. Kinoko finds her voice to answer him. “I woke up and he was there… touching me…”

“Oh please it wasn’t that big a deal. I’d love to wake up to that!” Kinoko watches as Kazuha looks at the boy with a look of disgust and Ibarra’s vines tighten around the boy making him start crying. Kazuha turns to Kinoko and speaks. “I apologize that the crux fleet failed to keep you safe during our journey. This will be brought to the attention of both Captain Beidou and your teacher. I assure you at the very least Captain Beidou will take this seriously.” Kazuha made his way over to where the boy from 1-a was and pulled him out from where Ibarra had him ensnared. “You will be coming with me for it.” It was only a breath later when the door was slammed open by two of the boys. One she immediately recognized as the shy boy from her class. She thinks his name is Kuroiro. He looked worried. Also a green haired boy from 1-A who also seemed concerned. “Komori, are you hurt?” Asked the white haired boy. His voice filled with genuine worry.

“I’m okay… just shaken…” Komori could feel the adrenaline begin to fade. Kazuha walks up to her still holding the purple haired boy but not letting him near her. “Komori, was it? If you’d like you can come too to explain your side of events. Of course it’s your decision and you can say no if you want to.” Komori was silent for a moment. On one hand she didn’t want to be anywhere near that boy from 1-a. On the other hand… she wants to make sure that her teacher and the captain are able to get as much information about the event as possible. That’s what she’s supposed to do in these situations, right? “I’ll go…” She says trying to put on a brave face. Kuroiro speaks up shyly. “I’ll come too if you want… For moral support…”

Komori couldn’t help but feel happy hearing her classmate willing to be there for her during this. She turns to Kazuha and asks permission. “Can Kuroiro come too?” Kazuha nods as he responds. “I don’t see why not. Whatever makes you feel most comfortable.” They all start leaving the room. As she does she can tell people are talking about what happened. She even sees the green haired boy from 1-A talking to the Vice President of his class. Likely asking about what happened.

It made her feel self conscious about what happened. Kuroiro seemed to notice this and put himself between her and them. It made her feel a little better. Meanwhile Kazuha was using himself as a barrier between the now whining, short boy from 1-A and her. “Come on man, let me off the hook. You’re a guy too. How could I just not touch her tits when they were right in front of me?” Kazuha seemed to not be taking any of it. “By simply not touching. It’s not that hard.” The boy seemed to be annoyed at that answer. “What are you, gay? All guys can’t resist when tits are in front of them.”

Komori felt disgusted by the boy, a feeling shared by both Kazuha and Kuroiro judging by their expressions “First that is none of your business. Second, considering you’re the only one that tried it, I think you’re the only one. You should think about that instead of making everyone uncomfortable. Maybe you’ll come up with a better explanation to give to Captain Beidou and your Chaperone.” Kazuha says dragging the boy along with him. Eventually they make it to the captain’s quarters.

Kazuha knocks on the door. “Captain Beidou, a situation has occurred in the girl’s bunk involving a male student!” Kazuha calls through the closed door. Komori swears she hears a muffled ‘shit!’ come from behind the door and footsteps approach the other side of it. The door swings open and her eye immediately goes to the purple haired boy and then to Komori herself. Understanding showing on her face. She does look slightly confused about Kuroiro’s presence.

“He’s uninvolved. He wanted to be here as moral support for her.” Kazuha gestures between her and Kuroiro once he sees Beidou’s expression. “Understood. I’ll get Vlad King then we can investigate. For now, Kazuha, keep an eye out and make sure nothing else happens.” Beidou says as she goes to the guest quarters across the way. Komori was glad that she wouldn’t be left alone with the purple haired boy. She wouldn’t feel safe like that. She noticed that Beidou seemed to almost expect something like this to happen. Maybe that’s why Kazuha was the first one there when she screamed? Beidou probably told him to be on the lookout.

Notes:

So… this is going up like an hour before ao3 goes down for maintenance so good luck to everyone trying to survive that. Also good news for me. We’ve gotten the money together for me to go to trade school. I may take longer than usual to post but I’m not going to stop. Bad news docs can’t figure out why I have a persistent cough and the US government doesn’t think I’m disabled enough for benefits. In other news I’m adding one of the ideas I saw in the comments last chapter I believe. Expect to see a chapter on that soon.

Chapter Text

Kuroiro Shihai stood next to Kinoko. He was worried about her. Who wouldn’t be in this situation? He could tell she was still uncomfortable. He needed to think of something. Maybe a distraction would help? “Hey Kinoko… do you mind… telling me about those mushrooms we were talking about while waiting for the boat…?” Kuroiro asked shyly and who could blame him. He’s talking to his crush and trying to comfort her when he’s never been good with people. Back in middle school he was considered shady and weird for his macabre interests. His attempt seemed to work as Kinoko immediately brightened up a bit and launched into a discussion about Polyozellus Multiplex mushrooms. He didn’t really understand most of what she was talking about if he was honest but he was more than happy to listen and try to. He’ll probably look up more about mushrooms later to have more to talk about with her.

Apparently it was named differently in different places. The two most common names being blue chanterelle and purple chanterelle. The least common being black chanterelle. He never thought he’d be so interested in mushrooms butc the way Kinoko talks about them never gets old to him even if he's only known her for a short while. A little while is spent like that. Kuroiro could almost swear he saw Kazuha smiling at them from the corner of his eye. When he looked, Kazuha was back to keeping Mineta in line.

It didn’t take much longer till Captain Beidou came back with Mr. Sekijirou. He looked annoyed at being woken up so late. “What is this about an assault?” Mr. Sekijirou asked, looking at his three students. Kuroiro notices Captain Beidou glare at their teacher, seemingly not liking the way he approached this conversation. Kuroiro can’t find it in him to disagree. Kinoko begins telling the story and the good mood immediately vanishes.

“I… woke up to that boy… touching my chest…” Even Kuroiro can tell Kinoko is having trouble speaking about it. “Of course it’s 1-A again.” Kuroiro hears his teacher say. “And then what happened?” Mr. Sekijirou asked while Kinoko was shrinking in on herself. Kuroiro felt like this was the wrong way to do this but he was still a student and that was his teacher. “I screamed… it woke up the rest of the girls and apparently the boys… Ibarra saw him on me and pulled him off with her vines.” The short purple haired boy decided that now was a good time to interject. “Those thorns hurt! Also who can blame me? Those knockers were right there. Was I just not supposed to take a squeeze?” He could swear he heard Captain Beidou mutter “God, Tsukiko’s going to hate when I bring him to her.”

He had no idea who this Tsukiko person was but he suddenly felt pity for them. He along with everyone else also felt nothing but disgust towards the purple haired boy. Mr.Sekijirou seemed annoyed that he just admitted it. Kuroiro knew that was definitely the wrong reaction to have. Even if it makes UA look bad to have him as a student it’s even worse to have him be a student with no consequences. “Well looks like he admits it. Mineta, you can expect principal Nezu to hear about this. We’ll also be informing your parents. It is up to the principal of Teyvat academy if you’ll continue on this trip to Teyvat or if you’ll have to be taken home immediately upon arrival.” Mineta immediately started crying about how he can’t help being a teenaged boy and that they need to go easier on him. Kuroiro hated how it almost seemed like Mr. Sekijirou would have let Mineta get away with what he did to Kinoko if he hadn’t admitted it.

It was when they were about to be dismissed when who he believed to be the Vice President of 1-A and his class President Kendo showed up with a black bag. The black haired girl was the one who spoke, holding out the bag towards the adults. “Us and the other girl’s found this in our bunk and the contents were… disturbing to say the least. None of us walk the contents back. Please get rid of them once you see it.” Captain Beidou and Mr. Sekijirou both look disgusted as they see the contents of the bag. Mineta can’t keep his mouth shut or his grave from being dug deeper. “Hey! Those were hard to get! Don’t destroy those panties! It took me forever to figure out how to sneak past Kazuha.” Kazuha looked downright disturbed that he hadn’t managed to stop him before this.

“That’s it! I’m not letting him off with a slap on the wrist.” Captain Beidou says after that confession. “Captain, as his chaperone I think I have this handled.” Mr. Sekijirou says and Kuroiro feels a bit of his respect for the man die in that moment. “No, clearly you don’t! This affects my crew too. I told you before that I was getting complaints about this exact student from female members of my crew. It’s my responsibility as their captain to make sure my ship is a safe environment for all those on board. Right now he’s a threat to that. He’s going to be kept in solitary confinement. Only male crew members will be taking care of him. Besides for my medic who will care for his wounds. Once his wounds are healed she’ll be allowed to avoid him.” Captain Beidou says, showing exactly why she’s the captain. “With all due respect I think you’re overstepping.” “If you want to complain, talk to Ninggaung. Explain this whole situation to her. If she tells me to let him off the hook I will.” Mr. Sekijirou looked annoyed, glaring at the captain but neither fought further. “Fine but I’ll be checking on him regularly.” Mr. Sekijirou relented.

“Fine by me. In fact, I encourage it.” Captain Beidou says. “Kazuha, help me get him to Tsukiko. The thorn wounds don’t look too bad but I’d prefer to get her opinion first. Everyone else try to have a good rest of your night.” Captain Beidou said to which Kazuha nodded and followed helping escort Mineta. God it’s going to be so hard to go back to sleep and probably down right impossible for Kinoko.

**Bonus Scene**

Beidou knocks on the door to the med bay. Tsukiko was usually up at odd hours of the night anyway and stayed in the Med bay in case of overnight patients and so she can be easily found for what she probably needed for quickly. After all, if you're going to the med bay at two in the morning you probably need her immediately. Tsukiko, sure enough, opens the door, looks at her, looks at Kazuha and finally looks at Mineta. “I think I died and went to hell.”

Notes:

I know I said Tsukiko and Eris got yeeted into the abyss but that mental image needed to be written. Next chapter is going to be about Arlecchino’s surprise adoption of Eri. Fun fact I write most of my fics when I’m supposed to be sleeping because my brain think 1-5 am is peak productivity time. Insomnia is so much fun. Fuck my autism for causing that. Also Tsukiko and Eris will be getting their own original story soon. I’m almost done with the prologue for those who are interested.

Chapter Text

Arlecchino had gotten a report from one of her children that was scouting out Japan recently. She had wanted to know what the criminal belly was like. Apparently one of the villains tried to reach out to Dottore of all people. He however was busy with one of his other experiments at the time and didn’t let the messenger live long enough to hear them out. Arlecchino could almost respect the bravery of whoever decided that was a good idea but she knows the decision was likely made out of stupidity rather than being brave. Out of all the groups she encountered she noticed a common theme. They all had to do with quirks. There was no neutrality when it came to them. It makes her think that maybe quirks being introduced caused a sort of regression in their society.

Reading the reports reminded her of the watching insects in the forest. It was like they went back to only being a single step above animalistic behavior while technology nearly completely stagnated. The only advancements were quirk or hero related. However what got her attention from this report was that her child managed to infiltrate one of the villain ‘organizations’. They had found that they were attempting to use the blood of a child to create quirk erasing bullets. Arlecchino pushed her feelings down just as she’s always taught herself. ‘Sorrow makes you waver and anger makes you reckless.’ She can’t let her curse climb up further up her arms than it already is.

The house of the hearth could always take in another child. It wasn’t long before the pull of a new child brought her to Japan. She had already made her way into the Yakuza compound. She faked being a recruit and got to learn the layout of the building and all its secret entrances. Now though it was time to finish the job. It wasn’t surprising how easy it’s been so far. She’s made it through a quarter of the compound killing anyone and snatching any valuables on her way. Eventually though she made her way to where the small child she learned was named Eri was being abused.

She knew of the child’s quirk, it’s something she’s going to have to be careful with and make sure she learns how to control. Soon she makes it to the room. It seemed she was a bit late as the waste of life named Chisaki was using his quirk on Eri. For a man who supposedly saw quirks as a disease he sure was eager to use his and name himself after it. However she’d have to wait for a moment until the girl was put back together. She could see the pain and fear in the child’s red eyes. Those eyes met hers for a moment and she raised her finger to her lips in the universal sign to shush. The girl understood and a breath later the girl had been put back together Chisaki not knowing the sample he had just gotten was about to go to waste. She entered the room completely silently and brought out her scythe. It’s truly regrettable this has to happen in front of the child.

The sound of her scythe being drawn and the little girl's wide red eyes darting to her made overhaul turn around. He reached out to touch her, no doubt about to use his quirk on her. She simply swung her blade down to his outstretched hand and sliced clean through. “You… who are you?!” The man yelled, clutching his arm in pain as he used his quirk to reattach it. “Arlecchino. Fourth of the Fatui Harbingers. The children of the House of the Hearth call me father.” He for some reason seems shocked when she slices through his other arm before he can finish. He screams from the pain of his wounds. She pushed him down. Her heel on his head. His eye looks up at her with rage. “You’re after the bullets.” She doesn’t dignify that with a response. The House of the Hearth has no need for anything made with the suffering of children. She pushed her foot down, splattering the man’s head.

“I apologize you had to see that, child. Come with me I’ll raise you as my child. Like a strict and unfeeling father.” She says repeatedly the same line she’s always said for all her children since the first one. She holds her hand out for the small girl to take when she’s ready. “I promise you’ll never be used for your blood again.” The little girl looks, understandably terrified at the scene in front of her. She knows this woman isn’t a hero but no one else has ever helped her. No one else came to save her. Strict and unfeeling is better than strict and cruel. With that Arlecchino watches as the child seems scared to touch her but Arlecchino can understand that given the girl’s quirk. “Okay…” That was all Arlecchino needed to hear for her to take Eri with her. Of course Arlecchino worked with the corpse to make the slices look like the work of a knife rather than a scythe and the scorch marks her vision left can easily be believed to be of one of the new recruits the L.O.V recently got.

Notes:

Lynette looked between Arlecchino and Eri for like 3 seconds before asking “Father, when did you have a biological child?” Honestly feel like I could have done this better but this is what my brain spat out. Eri doesn’t completely trust Arlecchino yet and she gets that. We will eventually see them again.

Chapter 16: Reiko has opinions

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Reiko Yanagi felt disturbed and not the good kind that she gets from a good horror movie or no sleep story. At least she now has something to contribute to the let’s not meet forum. She knew sleep wouldn’t come easily to her tonight. Especially not till Kinoko returns. Reiko wasn’t particularly close to her or anything but with what happened how could she not be worried.

It had been her who found the bag that that creep left behind when she was looking for one of the books she had brought with her. Apparently the green haired boy from earlier saw that guy leave the boy’s bunk with it. From the way the girl’s in 1-A acted they seemed used to this happening. It made her wonder how the guy was still in U.A. She tried to put it out of her mind. She once again reached out for her book.

It was part of a book and game series from the 2000s. After a while Kendo, the 1-A Vice President and Komori returned. They were immediately bombarded with questions about what happened. Kendo quickly took control of the situation. That’s why she’s class rep after all. “Calm down, it's been dealt with by Captain Beidou and Mr. Sekijirou. Mineta has been punished and has been put into a solitary bunk and isn’t allowed out till he gets back to Japan where he’ll be dealt with by the principal and his parents.”

Reiko personally hoped he’d get expelled. She tried not to be a spiteful person but what he did was too far to be anything but inexcusable. Things got a bit calmer once Kendo gave a summary of what happened. Enough for her to actually read her book anyway. In Reiko’s opinion there was no better way to unwind than reading a 200 year old book about murder animatronics. Of course, there were still people that were talking about it around her and as much as she’d love to lose herself in pizzeria murders she can’t help but overhear some of the conversations. She truly hates her inability to block anything around her out like others could.

The 1-A girl’s in particular were talking. “I can’t believe he actually got in trouble.” “I know he’s never gotten in trouble before even when he groped me during the USJ.” It seems her earlier theory was proven correct. This isn’t the first time. She couldn’t help but wonder why that guy was still here. She’s heard about situations like this happening at other schools, usually parents paying to have faculty to look the other way or a student with a heroic quirk who’s future the teachers wanted to protect. It was spooky to think of it happening in U.A. though and not in the good way.

Hopefully this would get the principal's attention. She’d like to give Principal Nezu the benefit of the doubt that he has just been unaware of the situation. “I heard Mineta got sent to the medbay after the meeting.” “Apparently. Deku told me about it before he left. I don’t think he liked the doctor there much though. I’m going to be trying to stay clear of it.” “Aw, she’s following her boyfriend.” “We’re not dating!” “Not yet.” That’s about the point Reiko lost all semblance of interest and realized they were in for a long night.

She felt a shift in the mattress of her bunk and looked up to see Yui. Yui somehow always knew what was going on with her and vice versa. They got each other even if more often than not they sat in silence. Not that either of them minded that. One by one pretty much everyone fell back asleep. It was pretty much morning already by that time so she didn’t really see the point of going to sleep just to get woken up for breakfast in an hour and a half. Yui seemed to hold the same opinion.

Yui’s quiet monotone voice spoke, immediately grabbing Reiko’s attention. “Do you think 1-A’s teacher has been allowing this to happen or is he just oblivious?” Reiko could tell Yui was concerned about the safety of 1-A. Rivalry aside they are all hero students and one day will have to be on the field together. It’s only natural for them to care even if they haven’t gotten the chance to get to know them with it being early in the year and Mr. Sekijirou really pushing for the whole rivalry thing. Personally Reiko thinks he’s trying to live vicariously through them.

“Probably allowing. Rich parents are probably paying him off. 1-A really has the worst luck.” Reiko says her own voice twinged with concern. Maybe during this trip they can convince 1-A to report what’s going on to the principal. Though considering Yui is mostly mute and she’s introverted as hell they might need help in that department. Setsuna maybe? This was complicated. “You know, I never thought this would be an issue at UA. I’ve seen it at other places but I thought UA would be above this.” “Mm.” The two sat in comfortable silence again.

Surprisingly Yui spoke up again. “Why did you decide to come to Teyvat?” Reiko thought about it for a moment. Honestly she thought of her reason as stupid but it’s not like Yui is one to judge. “Honestly? I just wanted to see what kind of horror they have. It’s difficult to find anything that’s really horror from this century. I mean FNAF is still kicking but there’s pretty much nothing else. Especially not supernatural. All the suspense is taken away with every ending being a hero saving the day. It’s not bad but it’s the only ending to anything really.”

It seems she was right about Yui not judging as she nods. “HPSC probably pays them to do it. Make sure no one ever wonders about what if a hero isn’t there.” Honestly Yui is probably right yet they’re both heroes in training because well even if there’s a lot of bad people in the industry, they can try to change it from the inside or at the very least make sure they stay decent heroes who actually try to help people.

Notes:

FNAF is going to still be kicking even after we all kick the bucket. You can’t change my mind. I’m projecting onto Reiko and Yui both. My mom, when we were watching the class 1-a Vs 1-b episode, looked at Yui and went “That’s you”. Few other things:
Feel free to request character’s who’s P.O.V y’all want to see. If I don’t already have a plan I’d be more than happy to.
I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a side story that’s just following Tsukiko & Eris in this AU. Had some thoughts for them in this setting but I don’t want them to take the spotlight of this fic.
Fun fact it’s 7 in the morning and I haven’t slept yet and probably won’t be sleeping. Insomnia is a bitch.

Chapter 17: Denki’s troubles

Chapter Text

Denki Kaminari himself would readily admit to being a bit of a pervert but even he feels can’t justify to himself what Mineta did. Girls were hot of course but that didn’t give anyone the right to touch them like that without permission. It was horrible. Breakfast was pretty awkward between class 1-a and 1-b. At least that was until Captain Beidou stood in the front of the canteen.

“Alright, we have some things we need to talk about. This is my second and last warning on this topic. The rule of respecting my crew is nonnegotiable and extends to all of my crew regardless of any of your personal feelings against them. Multiple of my crew members have reported verbal and sexual harassment from you students. While the sexual harassment has been dealt with after last night’s incident, those who have been harassing my crew will not be getting more than this warning.”

Beidou’s face was completely serious as she spoke. He almost felt shivers down his spine. Impressive for someone who’s quirkless. He didn’t consider quirkless people as lesser or anything. They just tend to be physically weaker than people with quirks. He can’t believe someone in his or 1-B’s class has been harassing the mostly quirkless crew. That’s just low and reeks of insecurity to bully and harass people weaker than you instead of protecting them. He could see Mina’s likely having similar feelings to him. He was about to speak when Captain Beidou started talking again.

“Other than that we will be stopping in Inazuma to restock supplies and for some personal matters for some of our crew.” Kaminari couldn’t help but be curious about what personal matters mean. “During this time you’re free to explore the islands as long as you make it back to the ship in time.” That got him excited. He couldn’t help but wonder what type of girls were there. “This will happen within the next day. Just know any crime on Inazuma soil will be taken care of by the Shougun herself. We can not protect you from that as she is the ruler and archon of Inazuma. I suggest if you do decide to explore that you make sure you’re on your best behavior.” That sent a shiver down Kaminari’s spine. Maybe it would just be better if he stayed by the ship.

Still maybe it would be nice to hang out on land for a bit. He had underestimated how being on a ship overnight would be. Maybe he could ask someone from Inazuma about how strict it is over there and what he should avoid doing. Now he thought about it. He's pretty sure someone mentioned that Kazuha’s from Inazuma. What do you know he can come up with pretty good ideas too. Though as he looks around he realizes that Kazuha isn’t present. Looks like Kaminari will have to find him later.

That seemed to be the last announcement for the morning but Mr. Sekijirou seemed mad for some reason. Probably at whoever was harassing the crew and the Mineta incident last night. Bakugou for some reason was glaring at Beidou and muttering something under his breath. Kaminari made the decision not to ask as talking to Bakugou always ran the risk of getting exploded and he did not feel like witnessing his breakfast get reduced to ashes this morning.

Kaminari found himself slowly scooting away at that thought and continued eating. He has no idea what they’re putting in this food because he can swear it’s even better than Mr. Lunch Rush’s food. Maybe he can find a recipe book or something to bring back to his mom while he’s here. Knowing Sato he’ll probably also want to look for one. Maybe they can go together. That’s something he’ll have to remember to ask Sato later.

Kaminari overheard Midoriya muttering to himself. About something working and needing to talk to someone. It wasn’t any of his business though. Kaminari quickly finished his food and decided to search for Kazuha first. At the end of the day Sato’s in the same bunk as him so worse comes to worse he can ask Sato about it later tonight. He soon found himself wandering around the ship. This might be harder than he thought. He had no idea where Kazuha was or where he would be.

Maybe he really is an idiot like everyone says he is. Well he knew he was academically at least. Honestly it was a miracle he got into UA at all. His grades were shit and his quirk was even more shit. He may have told everyone, even his parents that the reason he wanted to come was because he heard Teyvat babes were the hottest but the real reason was that he wanted to get more control over his quirk. He still remembers during the USJ how that villain used his defenseless state to make him a hostage.

Yaoyorozou and Jirou had to waste time worrying about him because he couldn’t defend himself. He didn’t want to ever be in that situation again. If no quirk specialist could figure out how to get his quirk under control maybe someone in Teyvat could. He eventually found Kazuha on the deck. He swore he looked for the older boy there multiple times already but that didn’t matter at least he could talk to him now. He waved at Kazuha. “Hey, Kazuha, I had some questions about Inazuma. Do you mind answering them?”

Kazuha sighed and nodded. “Sure. What do you wish to know?” Kaminari felt relieved that Kazuha agreed. “Thanks dude, you’re a lifesaver. I just wanted to know about what I should avoid doing or saying while there. I don’t want any trouble while we’re there and Captain Beidou mentioned them being pretty strict with laws.” Kazuha nodded at that, seemingly relieved by the question asked.

“Just don’t cause a public disturbance or bother anyone that doesn’t want to be bothered. The Shougun is strict in a lot of ways but as long as her nation is safe she won’t do anything. Especially not after the traveler’s first visit to Inazuma. She’s been much calmer since their confrontation.” Kaminari felt like a weight lifted off his shoulders at that. Maybe he took Captain Beidou’s words more literally than he was meant to or got freaked out over nothing. He couldn’t help but feel curious at the mention of a traveler and confrontation.

“Thanks, I got it. Just don’t be an asshole and I’ll be fine.” Kazuha nodded again. “Pretty much. Is there anything else you need from me?” Kazuha asks and Kaminari realizes that he sounded tired. Kaminari decided then that he didn’t need to ask about that traveler and confrontation. “Well… my quirk has to do with electricity and has always given me trouble with basically frying my brain if I use it to its full extent. It’s kinda pathetic I know but I was wondering if perhaps you know of anyone who’d be able to help me.”

Kazuha looks at him with concern and sympathy. Honestly it was the first time someone actually seemed concerned about it. Usually it was just dismissed as a funny part of his quirk. Kazuha thought about it for a while. “When we get to Inazuma, I suggest visiting the Narukami Shrine. The head priestess there is the Raiden Shougun’s own familiar. No one knows electro better than her besides perhaps the Shougun herself.” Kaminari wasn’t expecting Kazuha to make such a serious suggestion. “Is it really okay to bother her with something like this? I mean it’s not like I’m dying or anything.”

Kazuha seemed confused at that. “Why would you need to be dying for it to be important? She could always say no or send you to someone else to help if it’s truly something small.” Kaminari could see his point and it’s a shrine so she could probably bump him off to some other shrine maiden there and it does give him an excuse to check it out. “Okay I’ll go see her when we get to Inazuma. What is she like by the way?”

Kazuha goes silent as he seems to be thinking and listening to something. “She’s… someone you’ll probably find… interesting. I suggest you start believing in yokai by the way or you’ll be in for a surprise.” Kaminari suddenly felt less confident in this decision but he already said he was going to do it. There were good yokai, right? They weren’t all just evil spirits? Kazuha wouldn’t send him to his death would he?

Notes:

Yay new chapter. Kazuha finally has a conversation that doesn’t end with him being agitated. Also can we let acknowledge that Denki’s here frying his brain every other episode and no one cares? Like personally if that was my kid I’d be fucking concerned. This was inspired by the comment that wanted to know about the boys bunk. Also this is setting up for the Sato chapter that will happen once they get to Inazuma which will need me research the food from Inazuma.

Btw can’t believe Genshin is making a cookbook.

Life bullshit: I wrote this while reading a Locksmithing textbook not even for school as I’m still waiting to get the money for it. Also was busy with the Inazuma event. Honestly was nice to see Hoyo remember Sara fucking exists.

Chapter Text

Rikido Sato was surprised when Kaminari approached him while everyone was winding down in the boy’s bunk. “Hey Sato, Do you plan on leaving the ship tomorrow while we’re docked?” Admittedly he didn’t really have any plans and he didn’t see any reason to lie. “No, do you?” Sato asked, interested. Him and Kaminari weren’t particularly close or anything but they were still classmates and he wouldn’t be against having someone to hang out with in a nation they’ve never been to. It’d be better to stick together. Kaminari smiled at him. “Yeah I do but before I go to that, I was thinking of looking for a Teyvatian cookbook as a souvenir. I thought that you might like to look for one too. After all, the food here tastes so good so far.”

Sato thought it was a good idea. He was never against expanding his horizons when it came to cooking and it could be interesting to learn about Teyvat’s food. “Sure I’m down for that. It was nice of you to think of me.” Sato didn’t consider him to be particularly introverted but he isn’t exactly a social butterfly either. He wasn’t really expecting anyone to invite him out. “Of course, dude. It’ll be fun. Talk to you more tomorrow.” Kaminari said with a smile as he went back to his bunk, likely getting ready for tonight and tomorrow.

It was good that someone was smiling, especially given what happened the night before. Nobody said anything but it felt like everyone felt some level of guilt for not realizing just how bad Mineta is. Especially Midoriya, he was in the room when Mineta left. The boy’s bunk has become very awkward after everything. Bakugou constantly yelling about whatever pisses him off and calling everyone extras doesn’t help their image to Class 1-B or to the crew of the ship.

Right now he was ranting about a ‘quirkless bitch’ not getting to tell him what to do. Sato just hopes that Bakugou doesn’t do something stupid. 1-A already has enough to deal with because of Mineta. He sees the way the crew watches them like a hawk. Even if it’s not spoken they’re on thin ice. He didn’t think it was fair but he could understand why it was happening. Luckily for the bunk it was almost 8 o’clock, aka apparently Bakugou’s bedtime.

He himself wasn’t someone that went to bed super early, but there wasn’t much to do right now and he now had plans for tomorrow so he might as well start getting ready for bed. He got changed, cleaned himself up and picked out what he was going to wear the next day. Soon he laid down waiting for sleep to take him. It didn’t take long till his boredom put him to sleep.

When morning eventually came, Sato found that every part of the ship got lively. Every part of the crew was doing something. Captain Beidou and Kazuha were talking about something on the deck. It seemed like they both were stressed. Part of Sato wanted to approach and ask if they needed help but he knew he probably wouldn’t be able to or be allowed to. Most of the crew seemed very against them offering help. It didn’t make sense considering they’re mostly quirkless. He would have thought they’d love the help and protection heroes provided.

He tried not to take it personally. Maybe once he got a cookbook of Teyvat recipes he can convince the cook to allow him to try them out in the kitchen. Sato hadn’t gotten a chance to meet them but from the food they were served the cook was clearly skilled. This was all something to worry about later though. Sato couldn’t help but feel excited as he could see the docks in the distance.

He watches as the ship gets closer and closer to the docks. He can’t help but feel excited. This’ll be their first real taste of Teyvat. Maybe they’ll be able to help out the people here. From what he heard of the incident on the deck the day before yesterday, Teyvat has some tough monsters. Those poor people are probably suffering so much. Too bad Teyvat refuses to adopt hero society fully.

Soon Kaminari joined him on the deck. “Oh shit we’re almost there. Glad I got up in time.” Kaminari said as he spotted the approaching island. “Yeah.” Sato saw Kaminari pull out his phone and take a picture of the island in the distance.

Sato and Kaminari made small talk as they waited to reach the docks. Eventually the time almost came where they‘d allowed off the ship. Although it seemed Beidou wanted to speak to the students again before they were set loose. Sato felt it was a little overkill. She had just talked to them yesterday morning. Sato and the rest of the students minus Mineta for obvious reasons were gathered up in front of Beidou.

“Listen up. Trust me everyone here wants this to be a fun little pit stop before we get back to sea but that can only be the case if everyone behaves. When we dock your actions will leave an impression on you, my crew, your school and hero society in general. Keep that in mind during your visit. Some of you have already made a poor first impression. Also you’ll need to get your currency exchange in Ritou if you want to buy anything.”

Beidou’s words sunk into them all. It reminded them why they were here even if it wasn’t the main reason. Maybe they really did need that reminder. They weren’t here on vacation. They were here as hero students and here to learn. The tip about money was also helpful.

Sato and the rest of the class nodded minus Bakugou. Most of them likely felt the same way he did. Moments later they docked and soon he and Kaminari were wandering around looking for where to exchange their money. “Do you think that’s it?” Kaminari asked, pointing at a building that’s a bit bigger than most of the small shops in the area. There were also some stairs around it and a guy in from what they see around them in distinctly non Inazuman clothes.

It was worth a shot. At worst they’ll probably be at least pointed in the right direction. “Maybe but we can ask that guy over there.” Sato said and they moth approached the man. “Excuse me sir. We were wondering if we could get our money exchanged here.” The man gave them a friendly smile. “Well you come to the right place. This is the International Trade Association. I’m Kurisu. I’m assuming you both aren’t from Teyvat if you’re asking for a currency exchange.”

“That’s right. How did you know, sir?” Sato found himself asking but also confirming the man’s assumption. The man chuckles before answering. “Oh, all of Teyvat uses the same currency. Outlanders are quite easy to spot because of it. What currency do you need to trade?” The man seemed nice enough and both him and Kaminari began pulling out their wallets. Kaminari was the one to answer. “Yen. We’re Japanese.” Kaminari says as he pulls out his yen for the trip. Sato followed suit a moment later. Kaminari turned to Sato and said, “That’s useful, at least we won’t have to switch again when we get to Liyue.”

“Ah so you’re heading to Liyue. I’m guessing you’ll be checking out lantern rite?” Kurisu says as he takes the money and produces a bag of coins for both of them. “This should be right. Have fun kids.” The man says sending them on their way. Sato hoped the man was honest because he personally didn’t know the yen to Teyvat currency conversion. He doubted Kaminari knew either.

“We can probably find a souvenir shop around here. This area seems made for tourists. We can probably find what we’re looking for there, plus maybe there will be other cool stuff.” Kaminari suggested and honestly it was a pretty solid idea. Maybe he isn’t as dumb as he seems. “Sounds good to me.” Sato replied, starting to feel a little bad that he just assumed Kaminari was dumb without knowing him. It didn’t take long till they found a souvenir shop. Kaminari was right. It was in fact only a few steps away from the trade association. Apparently this shop was called ‘Eipekkusu’. Luckily it looked like this shop had a selection of books.

It took a bit of searching but they sure enough found a book of Inazuman recipes. It was even as the book put it ‘outlander friendly’ and had possible substitute ingredients for some of the Teyvat exclusive ingredients. The term outlander was strange but they didn’t pay it much mind. They both paid for a copy of the book each and soon left. “Well it’s about time I get to that thing I have to do.” Kaminari says looking at the time.

Notes:

I’ve returned once more! Next chapter we’re going to switch to Momo for plot reasons :). There are plans for Momo that are going to be set up. Also want to get some opinions on using the OCs and in the future Eri to break Izuku’s hero worship by showing multiple people who’s live improved upon being taken out of hero society. I’ll still do this plot line for Izuku regardless even if it’s only with Eri. I don’t want to force my OCs into the story but also Tsukiko’s the most convenient example in the immediate vicinity. (Also not going to lie tempted to write Eris being done with his shit.) Besides that we’re getting close to a thousand kudos. Honestly it means a lot to me knowing there’s actually people that like to read my work. It’s hard to imagine sometimes that what I feel for other people’s works, someone feels for mine. Thank you all for the support. ♥️

Chapter 19: Lessons learnt

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Momo Yaoyorozu decided this would be the perfect time to try to learn about visions. She had tried to ask some people on the ship about them but most either didn’t know anything more than she already did or were unwilling to tell her what they know. It was inconvenient but that just meant she had to do her own research. She was good at research. After all, her quirk relies on her knowing the molecular structure of what she wants to make. If she wasn’t good at research her quirk would be limited.

She didn’t have much worry about Mora. Her parents made sure to give her an allowance before she left. It seems most of her classmates’ parents didn’t do the same. Her, Iida and Todoroki were really the only ones whose parents did. She found it odd but maybe her and Iida were just outliers. She was aware that she was more privileged than her other classmates but there were still little things that surprised her. That might be because it’s still early in the year. Maybe she’d get more used to it the longer she was around them.

Momo noticed Kazuha going in a different direction than the rest of the crew by himself. Maybe he was sent to do something else or maybe he was one of the people with personal matters here? Someone should be going with him. He could get hurt by himself. Was Captain Beidou really okay with that? He was her son after all. As a hero she couldn’t let him be by himself.

Kazuha could apparently fight pretty well but she doesn’t feel right about leaving a quirkless person alone. She decided that she’d catch up to him to ask him to let her join him. It took her a bit to catch up to him as he seemed to be in a hurry and speed walking. Once she did before she got the chance to speak Kazuha said something. “You shouldn’t be following someone without their permission. If the wind didn’t tell me that you didn’t have bad intentions, what do you think could have happened?”

That stunned Momo for a second. She didn’t think of her actions as threatening. She had just wanted to make sure he was okay. “I didn’t mean to-.” Momo begins before Kazuha cuts her off. “I’m aware you mean no harm but someone else might not have been. Besides, it's rather rude in general to follow someone when they clearly don’t want to be followed isn’t it?” She couldn’t deny that. Now that she thought about it, maybe this wasn’t the best way to go about this.

“You’re right, I’m sorry. I would still like to accompany you to make sure you’re safe though.” Momo watched as Kazuha sighed, seemingly annoyed. “I’m a samurai, you know I don’t need your protection. However we’re already away from the city and I doubt you can safely find your way back. I will allow you to accompany me but not for my protection. Besides, most of your quirks won’t work on most threats in Teyvat. Can you hold your own without relying on your quirk?”

Momo felt a little stunned at that. Quirks don’t work against most villains in Teyvat? How did they defend themselves then? If quirks weren’t enough then could visions really be? “My quirk just lets me create non organic matter. It doesn’t affect my opponent directly.” Kazuha nodded. “Then you should be fine but you still don’t know this area.” She couldn’t deny that.

This may have not gone as planned but maybe she could still learn something from this. “What makes visions so much more capable of taking out Teyvatian threats than quirks?” Momo asked. Kazuha didn’t seem against answering the question. “It’s the elemental energy visions produce. Unless a quirk produces elemental energy it’s unlikely for it to do anything against most of Teyvat’s nonhuman threats. Your classmate with the ice quirk was lucky enough that his quirk does produce cryo energy.”

The term elemental energy almost sounded like something out of one of her fantasy novels. Maybe it was misunderstood science? Or maybe it was something that went unnoticed by the rest of the world? She decided to inquire further to see if she could figure it out. “Do all quirks involving these elements produce elemental energy?” Kazuha shook his head. “No. Your classmate with the explosion quirk doesn’t produce pyro energy for example.” Momo grimaced as she thought about how Bakugou would react to the information that someone else’s quirk was more effective than his. It would not go well.

This was more information than she expected. “All visions produce this ’elemental energy’?” Kazuha nodded. “That’s correct.” If she wanted to make visions she’d need to learn everything she can about this elemental energy. She’d also have to learn how to produce it or maybe harvest it if that wasn’t an option. It’s something she’ll have to look into on top of visions themselves.

Momo started trying to think of the materials needed for the casing of a vision. It seems like the most straightforward part of it. It’s most likely just gold and some glass but if they take these into battle how do they not break? It’s probably not regular glass then. Maybe something like tempered glass then but still doesn’t seem right. Maybe if she got her hands on one she’d be able to figure it out.

Momo’s mind raced with different possibilities following along with Kazuha as he walked. Eventually she finds that they’ve come across where Kazuha was going. In between two cliffs was a sword sticking out of the ground. They’ve come a long way for this apparently. She wasn’t sure what this was completely but she had an idea based on Kazuha’s somber mood.

This was likely a grave or at the very least a memorial. Likely someone Kazuha knew personally. Her dark eyes noticed something shining next to the sword. A vision from the looks of it but there was something off with this one. This one rather than glowing brightly was completely dim and looked cloudy. Kazuha seemed to notice her staring. “That’s a masterless vision. It’s what happens after a vision user dies.” That confirmed her thought about this being a grave or memorial. “Did you know them?” Momo asks, trying to be as careful as possible. “Yes, he was a friend.” It didn’t seem like he wanted to talk much more about it.

“Can it still be used?” If it could still be used maybe that’ll bring some comfort knowing that a piece of his friend was still out there. “Technically yes but it would take many things lining up at the right time. Someone worthy of a vision would have to be holding it during the time that they’d be decided worthy. I spent some time trying to create that situation but I think he’d… rather be at rest especially now the fight has ended.” Momo nodded. It was fair. Though she had to admit she was curious about what fighting there was, she knew now was not the time to ask.

“We should be heading back if you want to do anything besides visiting the grave of a person you don’t know.” They barely got there. She’d feel bad if she made Kazuha leave so soon. “I can go by myself. You don’t have to leave yet if you don’t want to.” Momo said quickly. “Do you know how to get back?” Momo looked down. That was true she didn’t know the way. “No.” Kazuha expected that answer. “Exactly.”

Notes:

Wooo not posting at an ungodly hour today. Next chapter we’ll check in on Izuku and we may squeeze in one more before returning to Denki to see how badly Miko makes him wish he was never born.

Chapter 20: Am I a stalker?

Chapter Text

Izuku noticed that Tsukiko had also left the ship. It was the first time he’s seen her leave the medbay. That immediately caught his attention. Maybe he can learn about her quirk and find a way so she can use it. Maybe then she wouldn’t be ungrateful for her quirk. The direction Tsukiko was going was into the city anyway so it’s not like it’d be wrong for him to be there. It was a different direction than the rest of the crew oddly enough but she may just be restocking the medbay herself. He had made sure to bring his notebook anyway. Teyvat’s population is mostly quirkless but there were still a few quirked people.

He found himself trailing behind her as they crossed a bridge and luckily for him just had to follow a clear path. Inazuma looked a lot like early Japan which has interesting implications. Tsukiko seemed to know the path well even though, like him, she’s from Japan. There’s still no sign of her using her quirk. Though he did notice that the second vision was missing on her coat. Did that mean it was with its owner? Eventually he finds that they’ve made it to the main city. Tsukiko makes a beeline for a woman at the window of a building.

He listened in on the conversation while taking an interest in the menu of the restaurant nearby. “Katheryne, it’s good to see you. How’s the adventurer's guild been?” The woman he now knows is named Katheryne smiled at Tsukiko. “It’s doing just fine. Something tells me you’re not here for a commission, though. We have two packages that were sent here for you. Your request for discretion was fulfilled.” The woman placed two packages on the desk. One much smaller than the other and both stamped with ‘Komaniya Express’. “Though I do ask you, don't make it too much of a habit to send personal items to the Adventurer's Guild rather than your address.” Tsukiko scratches the back of her head seemingly nervously “Right. Sorry about that. It’s just I didn’t want anyone at home to see before things were official.” Tsukiko pauses to pull out her coin purse and takes out what looked like quite a bit of Mora. “Here for your troubles. I’ll try to avoid having to send things here rather than home in the future.” The mora was taken and Tsukiko stuffs the smaller package in her coat and picks up the bigger one. Tsukiko and Katheryne give a few more pleasantries before parting ways.

Izuku watched as Tsukiko set the bigger package down and opened it revealing a bunch of plants that were somehow kept fresh, next to an odd stone table with symbols on it. He was confused as he saw her putting a few of the plants, most of which look like flowers, on the table. His confusion turned to fascination as the symbols glowed and the herbs turned into something recognizable as medicine. Was that her quirk? She didn’t seem to be hurt by it. He quickly wrote down what he saw but couldn’t resist approaching her to ask more about it.

“Was that your quirk? How does it work? Why did you say it hurt you before-?” Tsukiko cut the boy off before he got to finish. “No it wasn’t my quirk. It’s basic alchemy. Seems like my stalker decided to show himself. Mind telling why you decided to stalk me?” The word stalking froze Izuku’s mind. That’s not what he was doing right? How did she know he was following her? Wait what did she mean that wasn’t a quirk? Alchemy isn’t a real thing, it was just medieval chemistry, right? “I wasn’t stalking you, I just wanted to learn more about your quirk!” Izuku quickly said, trying to show he didn’t mean any harm. “That’s all you see people for, isn’t it? Their quirk. Bullshit like this is why I don’t regret leaving Japan.” That felt like a slap to the face to Izuku but the girl continued using alchemy to make medicine. He saw people outside of their quirks, right? He wasn’t the type of person who only cared about that.

“I didn’t mean it like that. It’s just… I wanted to try to figure out a way for you to safely use your quirk.” Tsukiko didn’t even look up from her work. “Even though it’d be safer to just not use it? You want me to put my life in danger for some brownie points from a society I’m not even part of anymore?” Tsukiko says, seemingly completely unbothered by her lack of ability to use her quirk. He couldn’t comprehend that. When he didn’t have a quirk he wanted nothing more than to have one no matter the cost. Couldn’t she see that he was trying to save her from that? Somewhere inside she had to wish to be able to use her quirk.

“How can you say that? Your quirk is part of you. Why wouldn’t you want the chance to use it? Don’t you want to be a hero?” Tsukiko rolled her eye at that. “Hell no. Why would I want to be a hero? I hate conflict and cameras. Also I have people that care about me, ones that’d prefer not to see me hurt, that I have to think about.” Izuku felt like that was another slap to the face. Heroes are amazing. Why wouldn’t she want to be one? Here he was trying to help but she kept denying it. Didn’t she see he cared? “Either go away to enjoy your time here like you’re supposed to or at least make yourself useful if you’re going to keep bothering me.” Tsukiko said, seemingly annoyed with him. Still though this could be a chance to ask more about her quirk. He began helping her by giving her which herbs she needed and the right amount. “How did you get your vision?” He decides to ask. Maybe if he can understand why she prefers her vision so much then he can help her see her quirk the same way.

Tsukiko sighs. “I did everything to keep me and Eris alive or well… as alive as Eris can be after I aged out of the system. Work and opportunities don’t come easily to someone with a broken quirk, much fewer to someone who talks to themselves and claims that someone everyone else couldn’t see or hear exists. That led to me having to take anything I could get. I devoted myself to giving Eris a happy life even if it meant I couldn’t have one. That’s all I’ll say on that subject.” Quirk discrimination? Izuku can’t help but wonder what system she aged out of.

“I’d think Eris being able to move stuff would be enough to prove she exists.” He had seen for himself that there was something moving that container. “Eris can only do that stuff regularly since she got her vision. What I’m talking about is before that.” He looks around almost expecting something to come flying at them. “Is that why she’s quiet today?” Tsukiko actually laughed at that. “No. She’s just back on the ship. Someone has to watch Mineta after all.” Izuku didn't know how to feel about that. Would Eris even be able to do anything if Mineta tried something. He had failed in preventing Mineta from doing something before and he promised himself to be more vigilant after that. He’s a hero after all. He needs to protect everyone. “Will she be okay?” Tsukiko huffed. “Trust me when I say if Mineta tried anything like that with Eris, no god would be able to save him.”

Bonus Scene:

Mineta prayed to every god he could for mercy. The cell he was in when he tried to sneak a feel on the weird partially transparent girl. She had looked a bit like that doctor but not as flat, a bit taller and smiled much more. Really he should have known she was badshit crazy from that smile alone, much more so when she introduced herself as Eris. His hand went numb as soon as he had touched her and now he suddenly felt completely exhausted despite not having done anything. “Night night.” Was the last thing he heard as he looked up to see glowing eyes that were redder than he remembered they were before. She was still smiling.

Notes:

So fun facts, Eris named herself, knowing she was naming herself after a goddess of Chaos and Discord. Also Eris feeds on energy to be able to do just about anything. Tsukiko was her favorite source of energy until she got an electro vision. Eris makes herself taller than Tsukiko on purpose.

Tsukiko basically was parentifed by having to raise Eris and herself because no one else was going to do it. Tsukiko is naturally much more of a pushover without Eris’s influence. When Tsukiko’s quirk came in her father was holding her. They both ended up injured and her father left the family because he was scared of it happening again. Her mother abandoned her at a police station soon after.

I haven’t slept again and I think my brain is bullying me.

Btw bonus points to whoever guesses what the smaller package Tsukiko got is.

Chapter 21: Wakey wakey

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Shota Aizawa woke up to a body full of pain. Even breathing was painful. He knows he’s awake yet he can’t see anything. Maybe there’s something covering his eyes? He could tell by the overly sterile smell that he was in a hospital. He’s hated hospitals since Oboro. They brought back too many memories. However now he couldn’t bring himself to move through the pain and confusion in his mind and body.

He decides to try to piece together what happened. He needs to logic this out. The kids? His class, right. They were on a bus… going somewhere. Where? Memories of a shipwreck zone, fire zone and avalanche zone come to the forefront. The USJ. Something happened there. A portal opened, right in the middle of the USJ. Villains came out. The kids had to fight. Did they live? There was a big one with purplish black… things around it. His quirk didn’t work on it. That’s how he ended up like this.

Midoriya punched it and didn’t do any damage. It ended up being Midoriya and Asui that saved him after All Might joined the fight. He can’t find any more memories to salvage after that. Was that when he blacked out? He let out a groan. This was going to be a pain in the ass. “Ah Aizawa, good to know you’re awake.” Aizawa suddenly wishes he hadn’t made a sound as he would recognize that voice anywhere. Principal Nezu. “Are the students okay?” Aizawa rasps, hoping there’s not another Oboro situation. “They are all fine. They’re currently heading to another school outside of the reach of the villains that attacked the USJ.” That’s good, at least they’re safe. “What school?” Aizawa rasped again. “Teyvat Academy.” Aizawa wondered if his hearing got damaged in the fight. Teyvat academy was out on that continent that appeared only a few years ago.

It was said to be a crime heaven. There was even an instant when an WHA official got attacked while on a diplomatic visit. “Are you crazy?! They’re going to be in even more danger!” He couldn’t see Nezu but he could hear in Nezu’s voice that he has a plan. “Vlad King is with them and you’ll join them again once you’ve recovered enough. There are signs that the villains that attacked the USJ might be working with someone in Teyvat. This is the only way that I can get people in there to investigate the situation without major resistance. Vlad King doesn’t know of this mission. He’s there purely to protect the students.”

So that’s what this is. He doesn’t appreciate his students being brought into this, but he can’t deny that it if Teyvat was under the impression they were help students victims of a villain attack rather than being investigated, they wouldn’t be as on guard. It’s risky but it could work if he played his cards right. Unknowingly Vlad and the students were building trust that he could use. He’d find those that helped the villain that attacked the USJ. He didn’t feel right doing it but sometimes you had to do questionable things as a hero. “How did you figure that out?” Aizawa asked. He’d need to know what to look out for. Nezu spoke a few moments later. “Have you ever heard of Archon residue?”

Notes:

Omg what do you know we have a plot. Also two chapters in a day. Granted this is more of a mini chapter. Remember that time Nezu put a bunch of first year high school students in a war? I do.

Also yeah the Nomu in this AU had archon residue in it. That’s what made this the USJ but worse.

Chapter 22: The shrine

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Kaminari Denki wondered how people walked up these seemingly never ending stairs to the shrine. When he finally reached the top step he was exhausted and let himself stand there hands on his knees to catch his breath. Looking around there were a few shrine maidens around. Some were looking at him with mild concern. Yeah… he wasn’t going to manage to impress any of them enough to give him their number, was he?

After he caught his breath, he made his way to what looked like a front desk but there was no one behind it. He looked around for a moment. Maybe whoever was supposed to be behind it got busy with something. As he was waiting, one of the shrine maidens approached him. “Sir, is there something that you need? You’ve been standing there for a while and you seemed so out of breath earlier.” The woman asked. She does work here so it couldn’t hurt to ask. “I was told to talk to the head priestess. I was told she might be able to help with my quirk’s drawback.”

The shrine maiden’s eyes widened as soon as Kaminari said the words ‘head priestess’. After that she seemed to look at him with pity. Was it because of his quirk? “Guji Yae? Are you sure about this? Not that she won’t know how to help you but she-“ Kaminari would have loved to hear the rest of that sentence but a voice from directly behind him interrupted the girl. “What’s this? Spreading rumors about me, are we?” Kaminari saw the shrine maiden shrink back with a squeak. He turned back to see the source of the voice and who made the shrine maiden react like that. He saw a gorgeous woman with pink hair and drooping fox ears. She wore what looks like a modified version of the normal shrine maiden uniform. Despite the shrine maiden’s reaction the woman seems more amused than anything.

“Oh? You’ve found your way here earlier than expected. Mayhaps you’ll turn out interesting, little one.” Kaminari felt a shiver run down his spine and not in a good way. Wait, did she expect he’d come here at some point? “You were expecting me?” Kaminari’s mouth asks before his brain can stop it. “Of course. I read the files of all the incoming students after all. When you get back tell your principal they’re terribly written.” Did that mean this woman was a teacher in Teyvat Academy? Why wasn’t she at the school then? The fox woman interrupts his thoughts before he gets to ask her.

“You’re lucky that we keep supplies for situations such as yours on hand.” She looked back at the shrine maiden who looked like she was about to sneak away. “Go grab a few electro resistance potions if you’d please.” Potions? Those aren’t real, right? Just stuff you put in fantasy manga. Also electro resistance. What did that have to do with him? He’s not a vision user.

“Now then, little one, show me what you can do without hurting yourself. I need to check something to make sure I’m the right person to help you.” She wants him to use his quirk here? He could hurt someone. Doesn’t she realize that or does she just not care? She read his files apparently after all. “But what about you and everyone else? My electricity could hurt someone!” He heard a chuckle from her at that. The way she laughed was as if something was obvious. “Little one, do you really think me so irresponsible? All my shrine maidens have run off to make themselves busy elsewhere and this is a shrine dedicated to the Electro Archon. A little bit of lightning won’t do much.”

Looking around Kaminari does realize suddenly all the shrine maidens have retreated from the area. It seems the gorgeous fox woman’s presence is enough to scare away most people. Kaminari has a feeling he’d learn why soon. However his concerns were addressed and he had already dragged himself all the way up this mountain. He might as well go along with this even with the mention of potions.

“Fine. I’ll try.” Kaminari let the electricity out. He could feel it arcing across his skin and the slight sting that he’s gotten used to over the years. The fox woman momentarily looked less playful as she watched the electricity. Her eyes narrowed and her fox ears, despite probably being weighed down by those earrings, went up slightly as a spot of barely noticeable purple appeared amongst the sea of yellow. What he didn’t notice was the Sakura petals clustering together when his electricity touched them. Once the sting turned to hurt he stopped using his quirk. A smirk appeared on the woman’s face that sent bolts of electricity down his spine even after he stopped using his quirk.

“Oh, now this has certainly gotten interesting, little one. Rest for a moment. Once she brings the potions, you’ll take one and try again to see how much you can push it before hurting yourself.” Her voice did not leave room for argument from him and he found himself nodding. When was the last time someone told him to see how much he could use without hurting himself? Most of the time it was till he couldn’t take it or fried his brain. Is this what being taught is supposed to be like? Maybe she actually teaches some of the heroics classes?

This is as good a time as any to ask. “Do you teach the heroics classes at the academy, Guji?” She laughed again as though the question was out of the blue. “Far from it. I teach literature and religion classes once a week each.” Kaminari was surprised to hear that. He would have thought for sure someone like her would teach in the heroics course. “Really?” He couldn’t help but ask. “I’m not even a hero, little one. It wouldn’t be good to have someone completely inexperienced in a topic teaching it.” Kaminari had a feeling she just didn’t want to. Kaminari didn’t get to question her more on the topic before his break was over and the shrine maiden from before was back with a box of glass vials. With a strange purple liquid in it.

The fox woman picks out a vial and hands it over to him. “Drink up. I think you’ll find that your quirk will be much easier to manage after.” Kaminari hesitated for a moment before drinking the strange glowing purple liquid. Its taste was impossible to describe but it didn’t taste bad. His entire body felt tingly suddenly. The head priestess motions for the shrine maiden to take her leave again to which she immediately takes her chance to. “Now try again.” Kaminari manages to bring his electrical output back to where it was before with no pain. Not even the stings. Kaminari slowly keeps pushing it. It’s only at the point where he usually fries his brain that he even begins to feel the sting. He couldn’t help but smile as he realized he can use his quirk without endangering frying his brain.

“The potion fills your body with inverted electrical energy. One day you’ll likely be able to do that with your own quirk.” Kaminari paused at that. He can learn to do this even without that ‘potion’? Why hadn’t anyone realized that before? “Do you really think so?” “A few elemental classes and some practice and I’m sure. Teyvat Academy will offer all students a place in elemental classes. Those are taught by the archons themselves.” Kaminari can’t help but feel excited.

Notes:

I’ve returned!!! Yeah after the last 2 chapters my brained died for a bit. Anyway so how’s life been for y’all? Also W for Kaminari having the most positive interactions with Teyvatians. At this point they’re going to adopt him. Particularly Inazuma.

Chapter 23: Ningaung is done with life the chapter

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Ningaung felt herself getting a headache. Nezu had assured her that she’d be getting respectful, diligent and intelligent students but they haven’t even made it to the school and she’s received multiple complaints from Beidou, one of the most laid back collaborators the academy has. That wasn’t something she could overlook. One student has already been kicked out of the program and another is on thin ice.

She had to calm herself after the response she got from Nezu after informing him of the poor behavior of two of his students. Apparently the one who claims to be the smartest creature in the world hadn’t realized his students had such issues. To his credit he accepted that two students would likely be sent back to him. Still with how these kids acted she failed to see how a simple background check wouldn’t expose these issues. Worst was one of their own students would have been attacked if Beidou herself hadn’t interfered. She would definitely need to find time to meet with that student once they dock, given her own background. She also silently crossed out the idea of those two giving the tour of the academy. She wouldn’t let two of her students be forced to be around people that they felt unsafe around.

Between this situation, what Director Hu discovered with the border of life and death and organizing Lantern Rite. She’s got her hands full enough already. She’d get it done however. That’s her job as both Vice Principal and Tianquan. Ningaung had a feeling this wouldn’t be the end of the trouble that UA would cause.

For now though she had time between disasters and she planned to use it to be productive. She actually did manage to get a few hours of work done before all hell broke loose. She received a message from Beidou. A UA student is currently being held in Inazuma’s jail. Beidou is still trying to get more information on the situation and would update her when she knows more.

In the meantime Ningaung started trying to contact the Inazuman jail herself to get whatever information she could about the situation. She was thankful she invested in bringing phones to Teyvat. While they weren’t widespread and were still in the process of learning how to make them themselves, they were useful in these situations. It was one of the few things she liked about the outside world.

It didn’t take long before she got a response. It was a report of the incident, filed by Kujou Sara herself. The general and current dorm assistant of Inazuma. That does not bode well for the situation.

“Date: xx/xx/xxxx

Officer reporting: Kujou Sara

Summary of incident:

During her patrol Kujou Sara noticed a ruckus occurring in the marketplace and investigated to find the outlander known as ‘Katsuki Bakugou’ having attacked an Inazuman merchant. The merchant in question suffered burns and a broken arm. Kujou Sara secured the suspect quickly while the suspect continued yelling obscenities at the victim.”

It continues from there but Ninguang felt she understood the situation already. Regardless of what happened with the merchant, the student in question had no excuse to act in that way. She prepared to send another UA student back. She’d need to inform Nezu again and prepare the paperwork from both incidents.

Notes:

More information about what happened will be coming in the next chapter.

Chapter 24: Bakugou meets the consequences of his actions

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Kirishima Eijirou tagged along with who he considers his best friend, Bakugou Katsuki. Bakugou may be confrontational and mean sometimes but he’s here as a hero student and that is what makes him so manly. Bakugou insisted that they’d be fine using yen and that they were probably just trying to scam money from gullible tourists. Kirishima thought it sounded true enough. Kirishima attempted to make small talk with Bakugou but he kept getting shot down. Bakugou must just not like small talk. Now that he thinks about it, it’s much more manly to get to the point. God, he had so much to learn from Bakugou.

While he was thinking about that Bakugou took interest in one of the shops. He caught up with the other boy quickly. It looked to be a small store with rock climbing, camping and general survival gear. Bakugou seemed to be checking out some of the rock climbing gear. “Thinking of getting into rock climbing, Bakubro?” Bakugou’s shoulders tense as Kirishima gets close to him. “I’m not some fucking nooby, Shitty Hair!” Bakugou said as small explosions popped in his free hand. “I’m the best climber you’ve seen!” Kirishima raised his hands in surrender.

Kirishima knew most people would see Bakugou making explosions at him as a threat but Kirishima knows him better than that. It just shows how passionate he is and that he isn’t willing to take anyone underestimating him. Kirishima could see the lady at the desk, assumedly the clerk, jump at the sound of the explosion. Other people just don’t understand Bakugou. “That’s so cool! I didn’t know you were into rock climbing, Bakubro! Is any of that stuff good?” Bakugou huffs and pulls out a rope. “I don’t even recognize what brands most of this shit is from and the stuff I do is shitty! At least they have the decency for it to be cheap!” Despite calling the brands recognized ‘shit’ he picked up those.

“I don’t trust Teyvat’s shit.” Bakugou says. Kirishima followed Bakugou around as he picked up more stuff. He muttered curses under his breath as though each item personally offended him. It was fair to be honest. You never see Teyvat made stuff anywhere and that’s probably for a reason. This place looked like ancient Japan and Kirishima doubted they had much technology. They also didn’t have many quirked people so they probably couldn’t produce as much quantity or quality goods as other places. Quirkless people probably just can’t keep up with the demand, as sad as that is. They were more fragile after all.

Eventually Bakugou brought his items over to the counter. “How much in fucking yen?!” Bakugo asked and the cashier girl flinched back for some reason. “I’m sorry, sir but… we don’t take any currency… other than mora here.” The girl said nervously. Kirishima wondered if they were forced to only take mora and that’s why the girl seemed so jumpy. “Did I fucking ask what currency you take?! Just tell me how much yen you want, stupid bitch!” The girl flinched back again. “I’m really sorry sir, but I can’t take your yen. Please you can get your yen exchanged for mora at the international trade association. It’s not that far from here. I can even hold your items behind the counter till you return.” Bakugou’s hand hit the wooden desk the cashier was stationed at. An explosive pop singed the desk and left a dark burn mark on it. The cashier flinched again and Kirishima wondered why she didn’t just tell Bakugou what he wanted. Did they think they were too good for their yen? “Quirkless idiot! Do you want to get fucking blown up?! I’m not falling for your tourist trap scam! Only way you quirkless bastards make it this far is by cheating and scamming your way through!”

Kirishima watched, shocked as Bakugo actually did it and grabbed the girl’s arm and used his quirk. He didn’t expect Bakugou to go so far. He tried to pull the other boy away but Bakugou let off another explosion only barely blocked from hitting the girl’s face by her instinctually raising her injured arm to try to push him away. “Worthless fucks, like you need to learn your place!” Kirishima knew Bakugou was intense but he didn’t realize it wasn’t just that he was enthusiastic. “Bakubro we need to-“ Kirishima’s sentence got cut off as the door slammed open. A woman with a bow entered. “Shogunate, you’re under arrest for assault, battery and disorderly conduct.” Before Kirishima could even blink, the woman with the red mask moved to actually detain Bakugo. She held both hands behind his back, not even flinching at the curses and explosions. “We’re UA students. This doesn’t need to escalate more than it already has, right?” Kirishima says. Authorities were often more lenient on hero students. Especially ones from UA. The look this woman gives shows that she isn’t the same. “That isn’t an excuse to senselessly attack civilians.” The woman says coldly. Her yellow eyes not showing a hint of leniency towards them. “General Kujou! We brought the nearest healer, she’s still in training however.” A man in something similar to samurai armor called out as he stepped inside.

“That’s good enough for now at least if she’s all we got. We can get the victim to a hospital once they’ve been stabilized.” It was at that moment Kirishima realized how boned they were. Captain Beidou warned them. He had to get Bakugou out of this somehow. Even if he’s rough around the edges he can still be such a manly hero. The now named General Kujou, was tying Bakugou’s hands behind his back like a criminal. “Get off me you fucking, bitch! Your charges are bullshit!” The man in the armor ushered in a girl he recognized as part of the ship's crew. That gave him some hope. Maybe she can talk some sense into them. This was clearly some kind of misunderstanding. Surprisingly behind her was Midoriya. “Kacchan! This must be some kind of misunderstanding, right?” The girl from the ship rolled her eyes at Midoriya as she rushed straight to the victim. The silver star shaped vision glowed as water appeared around the injured girl. “No trace of elemental energy. Many witnesses on the street. Burns. All point to Bakugou, Midoriya. Being a ‘promising’ hero student won’t save him here. This may look like old timey Japan but it’s not. Inazuma doesn’t give people passes for being a hero. If anything they’re held to a higher standard.” Kirishima felt a shiver go down his spine as the girl said that. What right did she have to talk about Japan like that? Regardless, does that mean Bakugou was in serious trouble?

“But this is his first offense. Kacchan deserves a second chance. I’m sure he didn’t realize how bad he hurt her.” Midoriya said and Kirishima nodded along. “Definitely, Bakubro is too manly to be kicked out of the hero course!” The girl grit her teeth but didn’t say anything as the water from her vision continued covering the other girl’s injuries. General Kujou, who had been restraining Bakugou who was still trying to use his quirk, spoke up. “That is to be decided by the Almighty Shougun. Regardless of intention he still seriously harmed a civilian.” Bakugou was surprisingly silent as he was pulled up by General Kujou. “It can’t be that bad, he used to do that to me all the time!” Midoriya said as he tried to move towards the cashier to get a better look. Kirishima was surprised that the girl conjured more water and used it to push him back.

She looked pissed as her head turned back and looked at both of them. “My patient doesn’t need more ‘heroes’ around her now and neither is she a spectacle. If you are neither friends or family then please step back.” Her tone and face didn’t match. When she turned back to the cashier her eyes almost seemed to soften. General Kujou nodded, seemingly understanding something the rest of them didn’t. “Understood. I’ll escort them out. One of my men will bring another doctor in case you need one.” Kirishima was surprised to also be dragged out by her along with Midoriya. It wasn’t long till they found themselves in what seems to be some kind of police station. Him and Midoriya were sitting in front of a desk that belonged to the General while Bakugou was in a jail cell in another room. The General was speaking to a maroon haired man outside the door. “Detective please find out all the information you can about the incident that happened in Ritou earlier today. All of the witnesses we know of will already be considered biased. We need as much unbiased information as possible.” He couldn’t hear what the detective said in response but Kirishima felt a flicker of hope. They had witnesses that were probably biased towards them. They probably overheard that they were heroes. After all, who would say anything bad about heroes?

Bakugou will get out of this for sure. Midoriya seemed to be thinking the same thing as he also suddenly looked hopeful. Kirishima heard footsteps leaving and footsteps coming back in. General Kujou came back in. “I’m going to need witness statements from you both.” At least they were going to be able to give their side of the story. Hopefully the General would understand that this is just a huge misunderstanding and that Bakugou hadn’t meant to go that hard.

Bonus Scene:

Tsukiko sat with the girl she knows very well at this point in their relationship. Now that they were alone together she felt less of a need to stay professional. She was doing all she could with her vision to heal her as much as possible. She didn’t want Leila to ever have to fully understand the constant hum of pain from incorrectly healed injuries. “You didn’t tell me you’d be back in Inazuma today. I would have told mom to put someone else on the register so I could come see you.” Tsukiko sighed, “I didn’t know you were back in Inazuma. I thought you were still in the Akademiya.” “Mom needed help and she’s… been having problems again.” Leila said with a small smile. “Anything that my family can help with?” “Not really. I’ve been taking her to the bath house more often now.” Tsukiko just nodded, not knowing what else she could say.

Notes:

So guess who’s back! Had a bit of writer’s block with this one but it’s done. Shit also happened that made writing in general hard.

Also about the bonus scene, yeah the girl Bakubitch exploded was Tsukiko’s girlfriend. It wasn’t originally going to be but I have a quota for Tsukiko’s suffering. She was too happy about her package a few chapters ago.

Also fun fact Leila’s mother is actually the first person to come from the outside world before the barrier even lifted. She wasn’t doing the best mentally or physically when she ended up in Teyvat.

Chapter 25: Interrogations

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Kujou Sara sat in front of the two hero students. Thank the Shogun, she decided to patrol around Ritou today. The Shogun only knows what would have happened if she hadn’t. She had a feeling something would happen when she heard that the ship transporting the UA students would be stopping by. She just sat back down in front of them after asking Heizou to investigate the case. She set up a recorder in front of her between the two and herself. It was rather new technology that she herself was still learning but both Ningaung and the Shougun both showed interest in the way it was used in investigations. Before they’d have a scribe write down everything said but there was always the chance for human error with that. She looked at the two in front of her. Eijirou Kirishima and Izuku Midoriya. The first seemed strangely confident while the second looked like he had hope but was still worried. Really this was an open and shut case. It’s unlikely that their friend is going to get out of this. “For the record, are you both aware and consent to this conversation being recorded and used in the investigation of the earlier altercation?” Both of the boys nodded seemingly familiar with this procedure. “Yes ma’am.” “Good. Kirishima, how would you describe how the altercation happened between Katsuki Bakugo and the victim?” Kirishima sat up at attention when she said his name. He immediately began talking.

“You mean the cashier lady, right?” Kirishima asked and Sara nodded. “Yes. That’s who I’m referring to.” Sara confirmed. “Well, I admit Bakubro was pretty harsh with the girl but she really should have just taken his yen. If she was so confident in getting it exchanged fairly. It isn’t like we went in there with the intention of hurting her. We just wanted to check out what was in the shop.” Kirishima said, looking slightly pitying at the memory of what happened to the girl but he still blamed her. Sara kept her face neutral. For this to have any chance of sticking outside of Teyvat then she’d need to remain neutral. It took a lot for her too though. She knows the girl’s mother after all. She was one of the people that discovered the woman. “I see. Go on.” Kirishima really seemed to be trying to get her to empathize with the attacker. “Bakubro really is a good guy once you get to know him, I swear. He just has a bit of a short temper. Please don’t let a misunderstanding like this stop him from being a hero.” Sara continued to keep her face neutral. “I’ll keep that in mind as a character witness statement. If that is all you can provide for the event then, Midoriya I have a question for you.” Sara said looking over at the green haired boy now. He seemed more nervous about the situation. He sat up straighter. “Anything to help Kacchan!” She didn’t mention how none of this was helping his case. “What did you mean when you said earlier ‘It can’t be that bad. He used to do that to me all the time.’” Sara asked. She saw the boy’s body language get even more nervous. “Kacchan used to play a bit rough with me back when we were kids and we thought I was quirkless. That’s all.” There was more to it than that. It was practically written all over the boy’s face.

She continued to question the boy. “Rough play doesn’t usually involve giving someone permanent burn scars and a broken arm. This could have very well changed that girl’s life forever if there wasn’t a healer around immediately. This kind of injury is very rarely caused by a quirk accident and quite frankly when it is, normally the quirk user would be apologizing to the victim. However none of us can deny that that’s not what happened.” Both of the boys look down as they go silent. Kirishima spoke tentatively after a moment. “Well she was quirkless, right? He’s used to messing around with us so he probably underestimated how much to hold back.” Midoriya looked away as Kirishima said that. It told her all she needed to know about the situation. Sadly she can’t use that for evidence. Though she doubts it would be necessary with Heizou on the case. “Quirkless people are not any less durable than someone with a quirk unless their quirk directly affects their durability. Even if that was the case it doesn’t excuse attacking a civilian just because they didn’t do what you want.” Sara says punching another hole through the ‘it was an accident’ excuse.

Both boys were suddenly less confident than before. She’s got enough out of them and she’s sure she’ll be able to use this in the case and she has more to do. She has another interrogation. “You’re both dismissed. Please try to stay out of trouble.” Sara said as she stood up from the desk and turned off the recorder. “What about Bakubro? We can’t leave without him!” Said the redhead. “He’ll stay in our custody until the end of the investigation. And you’re right, and by extension your class and the crux fleet will most likely be delayed due to this. It’s already been reported to Captain Beidou, Ningaung and your principal.” That seemed to make them both realize just how serious this was. There were consequences. It’s good they learn this lesson now rather than on the field. Sara just wished it didn’t come at the cost of an innocent bystander. Sara reorganized her desk before getting up to leave for her second interrogation.

She reached the holding cell to see the blonde boy she apprehended earlier. The bars holding but looking worse for wear. Smoke was coming from his hands. It was clear he had been attempting to use his quirk to escape the cell. “Katsuki Bakugou if you don’t want property damage added to your list of charges I suggest you cease.” Bakugou glared at her. If she didn’t know better she’d assume he had the same background as Razor. Surprisingly he did actually stop his tantrum. “What do you fucking want, birdbrain?!” Sara could already feel the migraine coming on. By the Shougun this was going to be worse than dealing with Itto. “To ask questions. For the record this interview will be recorded. Do you understand and consent?” Sara says setting up the recorder again. “Of course I fucking understand, Tweety. I ain’t a useless idiot.” Sara could smell the inferiority complex on this boy. If he by some miracle on his side stayed after this then she’d personally recommend for him to be seen by Mizuki. “That doesn’t answer the question if you consent.” Sara simply said not bothering to give any attention to his demeaning nicknames or remarks as getting a reaction will only encourage him.

“Doesn’t matter if I do or not, places like this don’t care about consent! Isn’t that right, Birdbrain?!” Sara really was in for a day. “No that’s incorrect, however I do have to warn you that by waving your right to explain yourself the only thing your case will have in your favor is whatever evidence is found and the testimony of others. This may lead to you having an unfavorable verdict.” The red eyed boy practically growled. Explosions coming from his hands as he continued to yell. “Your quirkless fuckups won’t find shit on me!” Sara couldn’t help but feel herself get angry on behalf of her soldiers but she knows they’ll more than prove him wrong by the time of the trial. “Your blatant quirkism isn’t going to help you either.” The blonde boy rolled his eyes. “There’s a reason the one quirked person I’ve seen here is the general! Don’t fucking deny it! The rest of them are nothing but wannabes!”

Sara could feel her blood boil at that but she kept her cool. “That is untrue considering I’m also quirkless.” The boy froze as if he struggled to comprehend that she was quirkless. Likely because she apprehended him. “Fucking Bullshit! Don’t try to bullshit me! You may be able to around a bunch of quirkless idiots but I know a damn quirk when I see one!” How narcissistic does a person have to be to assume they know your quirk status better than you. “I don’t. I don’t have any quirk factor. What you saw were skills that I’ve trained my entire life for.” Kujou Sara says as she turns off the recorder as the blonde fumes in the cell behind her. “No you do! You took my explosions!” Kujou Sara saw no point in trying to argue further with him on this topic when one of her soldiers burst in. “General! Another situation happened!”

Sara saw someone she recognized. This time they were in cuffs rather than a UA student. A person with a body made of static. Eris. Sara was both surprised yet not at the same time. Eris used to be a frequent flyer for her, Jean, Yelan, Cyno and Wrisoley depending on which part of the Academy she was staying in at the time but she calmed down more as she and Tsukiko realized that they were safe now. She was also acting differently than she used to in this kind of situation. She could get out of the handcuffs whenever she wished. Sara knew that from experience. It actually took effort for Eris to keep them on rather than get them off. Who she assumed was the UA teacher was also there. “She knocked out one of my students!” Eris didn’t deny it. “It’s not my fault that my quirk can be activated by touch and he decided to nonconsensually try to grope me. Had it been something I saw coming I could have avoided such a thing happening.” Sara knew how Eris’s quirk worked and she’s not wrong the energy absorption part of it can do that. Yet another thing to investigate but for now regardless of how innocent she’s sure Eris is for once Eris would have to stay in a cell till the investigation was done.

Bonus scene:

Tsukiko was sitting in front of the bars that Eris was behind. She watched as Eris chatted away animatedly about the archons know what. Tsukiko’s mind felt like it was crumbling at the moment. First Leila and now Eris. Heroes society can’t leave her alone even now. “Tsuki…” Life was finally going so well. She had a career path, a girlfriend and a family that actually gave a shit. “Tsuki.” Her and Eris were actually getting help processing what they went through. “Tsuki!” That was finally enough to break her out of her thoughts. “Good, I finally got your attention. What are you even worried about? Leila is going to be fine. A little more crispy sure but fine. Hell I’m sure she’ll be even more fine once you give her what’s in your pocket! I’m fine. Even the tengu realizes that I’m innocent.” Tsukiko took a deep breath because all things considered Eris was right, it's not the end of the world. Doesn’t mean she has to like the situation though. “Now then are you going to show me or am I going to have to wait till Leila is showing it off to anyone who will listen.” Tsukiko decided indulging Eris is as good a distraction as any and she pulled out the small box in her coat revealing a ring.
