Eddie and the VKs prepare for going to Auradon

Buck prepares for the arrival of the four VKs

Chapter Text

Buck:

“There’s the Royal Highness" a voice teased breaking Buck of his reverie as he sat in his favorite spot under the Mystic Oak Tree on the south lawn of Auradon Prep. Auradon Prep is where all the heroes, princesses, and princes send their children to prepare them for a life of epic goodness. Auradon Prep has been Buck's saving grace. He spent most of his childhood trapped in his family's castle under a strangling force of tutors. He spent 15 years being isolated by the King and Queen of Auradon, otherwise known as his Mom and Dad. This was supposedly to prepare him to be the proper prince but his parent’s endless disappointment, neglect, and cruelty left him a mangled, hurt child. The only times he seemed to draw his parent’s presence would be when they were scolding him. He would sneak into the town and steal books from the local bookstore. He would persuade the traveling princesses or princes who visited the castle with their parents into sneaking off to hidden spots around the castle. Buck quickly got a certain reputation in the kingdom for being caught in compromising situations around the castle.

Eventually, one of his favorite tutors and one of the most respected people in the land, Bobby the Fairy Godfather suggested Buck attend Auradon Prep to form appropriate relations with other children and to prepare him to be king. His parents ultimately agreed, perhaps for the reasons Bobby offered or perhaps because they were simply tired of dealing with him.

“It's Prince Buck to you good lady" Buck teased a broad grin crossing his face as Hen, daughter of Mulan, and Karen, daughter of Tiana, came to sit next to him. Hen and Karen had already been best friends and girlfriends when he joined the school. Buck had been struggling to adjust to school when Hen welcomed him to the 118th Division, Auradon Prep's Tourney team. Ever since they had been the best of friends.

“Well Prince I hope you are ready for your first royal decree. Bobby sent me with an updated schedule for tomorrow" his favorite person in the world says coming over the hill.

His sister Maddie has been the only bright star in his dark, isolating childhood. Maddie was 6 when Buck was born. She loved him with all her heart, but she was just as hurt and broken by their parent’s coldness as Buck was. She ran from the kingdom when she was 17 right into the arms of a prince from a foreign land. Douglas Hans had always seemed creepy to Buck but when Maddie had married him after only a week, Buck had been hurt. Doug tried to stage a coup to take over the kingdom. When Maddie tried to convince him not to, he nearly killed her. After Doug was arrested and killed for his crimes, Maddie had been put on trial. Buck had begged his parents for leniency. They stripped Maddie of her royal title but kept her on as the prince’s royal adviser. Mostly so she can deal with Buck, and they didn't have to. She also taught a few courses at Auradon Prep and seemed to enjoy it.

“Are we really doing this?" Buck asks running a hand through his hair.

“Little too late for second thoughts Buckaroo. We have the Diaz triplets and Chimney Han arriving tomorrow evening for our welcome dinner. Bobby has arranged for goodness lessons for all of them. He said if Buck wanted to join, he is welcome for a refresher course" Karen reminds him reading over the schedule. Karen is the planner of their group, the brains of every operation. Hen is their bodyguard, their muscle. Maddie is their counselor, their light. And Buck is just trying to steer a ship he has no idea how to sail.

“I haven't broken a rule in a week" Buck argued leaning back against the tree.

“You ditched class this morning" Maddie reminded him.

“Details. Plus do I really need to take recognizing poisons?" Buck groaned. He had been eager to learn about all the different poisons of the land, but his ancient teacher somehow made an exciting topic incredibly boring.

“Might come in handy when bringing a handful of villains’ kids around" Karen said logically.

“No one deserves to feel imprisoned" Buck says quietly looking across the grounds to the water glistening in the distance.

“Hey, you never know. You might end up real close" Hen grins delighted.

~

Eddie:

"Prepare for landing" Chimney's voice came from above. Chimney Han was three years older than Eddie and his two sisters. His father Jafar had managed to escape the curse that trapped all the villains on the Isle and he travels all over trying to con people out of their fortunes. When Chimney's mother died at age 8, Chimney came to live with the Diaz's. By that point Chimney had managed to ferret his way into every nook and cranny of the Isle. So it comes as no surprise when Chimney's voice comes out of a storm pipe drawing Eddie out of his reverie. "Any good loot today?" he calls.

"Stole your favorite" Chimney emerges from the pipe tossing him a slightly beaten up box of Eddie's favorite candy.

"Nice. I got you this" Eddie tosses Chim a pack of blueberry gum he won in a game of cards earlier.

They high-five before emerging onto the street. "Hey boys. Like my new scarf?" Adriana teases sliding down the roof above them.

"Ugh did you steal Ursula's clothes?" Sophia giggles. Where Adriana goes, Sophia appears behind her. The Diaz triplets while similar in appearance are vastly different in personalities. Eddie was the stoic, brave one. He had been the leader of their gang for as long as they could remember. He was the first one to go ahead on any escapade they were planning. Adriana was the fashionista always scheming for new designs. When they had started moving into their hangout loft, Adriana had designed the place from top to bottom. She was wise and logical and often everyone's conscience. Sophia was mischievous as can be. She got no greater joy than tricking people. She was also the flirtiest one of their little group. She was constantly wrapping some new guy around her finger. She spent a little too much time 'studying' under Evil Queen. Chimney was their eyes in the sky. He could scout out any plan they hatched and was their best pick pocketer. All these skills came in handy as they held their own against plenty of other rival gangs growing up. Sometimes Eddie wished there was more out there than just endless trouble and mischief.

"No. Her daughter's. Uma deserved it. You wouldn't believe what she was doing to a bunch of kids down by the pier" Adriana smiled wickedly running her hand along the lacy black scarf which Eddie admitted looked very nice with her dark brown hair.

"I can believe it. It's Uma" he chuckles dryly tossing a piece of candy in the air.

"Do you think this will be our last day doing things like this?" Sophia asked, her voice taking on a hint of anxiety.

"Tomorrow we will be in the land of prince and princesses. I doubt stealing from each other is encouraged" Chimney says sounding disappointed.

"But think of all the handsome princes" Sophia sighs wistfully staring out across the water. Eddie feels his ears redden. He had kissed a few girls but never got serious with any of them. When he had a secret fling with Shannon, the son of Gaston, his father had been furious. He had torn into Eddie about disappointing their family legacy and how he needed to be a role model for his sisters. From that day on, he forced himself to focus on being the best leader for their group and a great brother. He had never looked at a person like that since. Still, he envied the way Sophia so easily wrapped men around her fingers while he was doomed to never even consider anyone.

"We all need to remember the mission. We can't let ourselves get distracted" Eddie said hoarsely stepping forward so he can face them all.

"Get the wand" Adriana sighs repeating what had been drilled into them by the Diaz parents. Jafar even called twice to tell them the importance of their task.

"If we can restore magic to our parents, they can take over Auradon. We can free everyone" Eddie reminds them tensely.

Chimney snorts. "Do you really think we will be that free if our parents are at full power?" Chimney asks dryly.

"It has to be better than this" Sophia argues.

Eddie and Chimney share a doubtful look.

"We should go pack. A car is coming to get us tomorrow evening. I have to pack so many clothes" Adriana fretted turning to walk up the street.

"I am going to go say my goodbyes" Sophia grins smugly waving her hand as she heads back the way she came.

"Are you ready for this?" Chimney asks him quietly.

"No...but I have to be" Eddie admits squaring his shoulder as they follow Adriana back to their joint apartment loft.

"I can't believe we have to go to school" Chimney groans.

~

Buck:

"Son I hope you are prepared for the disasters your plan will cause. If the kingdom of Auradon suffers because of these foolish plans you have enacted" his father says stiffly in his usual disappointed cold tone.

"We have prepared special courses for each of the students. We have ensured they will have a dormitory at Auradon Prep. Fairy Godfather is creating a course for them on goodness. I will make it my mission to personally look after the four students from the moment they arrive" Buck replies tensely trying not to let his parents cold demeanor break him. He needs to be strong today.

"Are you sure you are capable of teaching them to be good? You are barely behaved yourself most days" his mother says dismissively.

"Prince Buck we need to get going. Good morning Mother and Father" Maddie says stiffly coming into the room.

"Good morning Maddie" their father says slightly warmer than when he addresses Buck.

"Please excuse me" Buck says formally following Maddie from the room.

"Thank you" he mutters.

"Anytime. Now I do actually need you to make a few final decisions on the dinner spread. Chef Tiana wants to make changes" Maddie advised him. Buck groaned. Karen's mother is the best cook in the entire land but she is a bit of a perfectionist.

~

Eddie:

"Son remember you are the man of the family. You are going to a strange new land. Your sisters will need you to look after them. Keep your eyes on our goal. Your mother and I are relying on you to take care of the others and to get your hands on the magic wand. Fairy Godfather's wand is the only magic item capable of breaking the barrier and restoring our family's magic. You must do everything you can for our family. We are trusting you" Eddie's father reminded him, his expectations weighing on Eddie like a constant anvil pushing him down.

"Yes sir" Eddie says obediently.

"Son Auradon will not be like the Isle. There will be temptations and desires. Do not let distractions pull you away from our goal. It's up to you to save the family" his father's eyes glow green, the only remnant of magic his family can manage on the isle.

Eddie grits his teeth, his back straightening. "Yes sir" he repeats.

"Good son. Now follow me. Girls!" his father calls as he leaves the room.

"Present" Sophia calls sliding down the banister to land lightly on her feet at the bottom of the stairs. Her father glares at her but his lips twitch amusedly. His father was always softer and more lenient with his sisters.

"Any chance we have more luggage somewhere?" Adriana asks appearing at the top of the stairs looking a little disheveled.

A thud sounds on the roof. "Maybe Chim can find you some" Eddie suggests with a smirk as Chimney tumbles in an open window.

"Children. I have something to show you all" his father scolds them.

They all instantly fall silent. His father leads the way into his bedroom. Adriana and Eddie exchanged a curious glance. His parent's bedroom was not a place they were ever allowed to explore. His father pulled down a painting his mother had stolen a few years ago. Behind it is a leather bound book hidden in a hole in the wall. "Woah" Chim gasps delightedly. He loves secret spots.

"Ah I see your father is revealing our secrets. This, my children, is my spellbook. I decimated so many villages once with the power of this book" their mother said sweeping into the room and pulling the book down.

"A spellbook?" Sophia asks excitedly.

"It's useless on the Isle of course but these spells can do great harm in Auradon. You three will be able to use these spells. They will help you all achieve our goal of stealing Fairy Godfather's wand" their mother continues handing Eddie the book.

"Why does Eddie get the book?" Sophia argues.

"I am much more responsible than Eddie" Adriana adds. Chimney's curiosity must be winning out because Eddie feels a prickle as Chimney tries to snake his hand behind Eddie. Eddie slaps his hand away slipping the small book into his jacket pocket.

"There's a duplication spell inside. Once you cross the barrier Eddie can cast it so each of you will have a copy. Now get your bags. Your driver is picking you up at 4. Trust me the royals are always annoyingly on time" his mother grumbles.

"Let's go guys" Eddie says leading the way.

"Eddie" Adriana said sweetly.

"There's no room in my suitcase" Eddie retorts immediately. Adriana swears under her breath.

~

Buck:

Buck paces around the entrance to Auradon Prep. "Chill Buckaroo before you wear a hole in those shiny dress shoes" Karen calls.

"Karen band is starting in five" Buck calls in his Prince Buck tone that drives them up a wall.

The rest of the school is walking around with signs and pom-poms to welcome the newcomers but Buck would be lying if they all looked excited to have them. "Maddie is the dinner all set?" Buck asks trying to fix his tie.

"Enough food to feed two schools" Maddie said straightening the tablecloth.

"Buck everything is in order. You are not. Remember they are just people like you and me. This is a good thing you are doing" Bobby says coming up to him to fix his tie. Buck blushes lightly.

"Thanks Bobby" Buck murmurs.

"For what it's worth I am proud of you for pursuing this endeavor" Bobby tells him warmly. Bobby has been an adviser for his family ever since the magical night he transformed Cinderella, Buck and Maddie's mother for a night no one would ever forget. A week later Cinderella and Prince Charming, their father, were married in front of all the lands and their father became King of Auradon. Buck was never entirely sure if it had been true love or just a chance at a better life that drew his parents together. The romance had captured the hearts of the kingdom though and that night Bobby became the kingdom's trusted magical adviser. Bobby was the only person who seemed to sense the cruelty and isolation his parents used as a weapon. Bobby hadn't been around much when Buck was a young child but once he was old enough Bobby began visiting the castle to give Buck private lessons. Buck had expected Bobby to be just like the rest of his string of tutors and caretakers who treated Buck with cold indifference. Bobby was never like that. He was warm and supportive and actually listened to Buck's ideas. Slowly, Buck had learned to trust Bobby and had to come to seek him out as a parental figure.

"Alright kid. It's time" Bobby tells him placing a hand on his shoulder.

~

Eddie:

"Oh my god look at all this!" Sophia squeals.

"Eddie man you gotta try this. It's chocolate but tastes way better than anything I've ever had" Chimney moans.

Eddie rolls his eyes as he looks up from the spell book he's been pouring over since they had sat down in the luxury car. He reaches forward and breaks off a piece of the chocolate bar in Chim's hand. He's right the chocolate is sweeter and creamier and more delicious than anything he's ever tried. "Damn" Eddie laughs. He slips the book safely back in his pocket and the four of them make quick work of trying everything in sight.

"Guys look it's a trap!" Sophia screeches her head swiveling out the window. They all whip their hands around to see the car about to careen into the water. They all scream in terror when suddenly Eddie feels a tingle across his skin. He's never felt it before but he recognizes it instantly as magic. A golden light surrounds the car and it is driving forward on a golden bridge. Eddie glances behind them and the bridge disappears right behind their car.

"Wow" Adriana gasps and Eddie shares a look with her laughing at the sense of magic awakening his senses.

In barely no time at all, they are landing on solid ground. Eddie notices several students on both sides of the road waving and smiling but some of them look terrified. "I don't think all the students are comfortable with this" Adriana notes as she is grabbing a pack of wet wipes and wiping Sophia's face while she squirms away.

"This should be fun" Chimney said clapping his hands together.

"Ugh" Eddie groaned as they came down the driveway Auradon Prep looming in front of them looking so grand and ornate. A band played a cheerful tune and a small cluster of students stood in front. Several large banquet tables were placed along the side of the entrance with shining golden dishes filled with more food than Eddie had ever seen. The driver is pulling open the door revealing bright sunshine and birds chirping. Eddie takes a deep breath and leads the way.

~

Buck:

Buck chokes on air. The car had come to a stop and out of the car had emerged the most attractive guy Buck had ever seen. He was broad and tanned. His short cropped hair was chocolate brown and so soft looking Buck itched to touch it. His dark gaze was sweeping the area before they rested on Buck and his heart exploded. His mouth twitched into a sinful smirk as a girl who looked almost identical to him got out of the car. While the first guy was drop dead sexy, in dark jeans and dark green sweater the girl was pure grace. She wore a decorated hand stitched pair of jeans and a white lace top over tanned skin and shoulder length brown hair. The next guy seemed to fall out of the car being pushed from behind. His hands were filled with glasses and candy he was trying to tuck in pockets. He was shorter and less muscular. Buck guessed this was the non triplet based on looks. Sure enough the last of the four emerged and was identical to the first two people. She had long brown hair in a single braid down her back and she seemed coy and flirty. Buck was a natural flirt himself so he recognized the act as his gaze swung back to the first boy who must be Eddie Diaz. Maddie nudges him forward.

Maddie and Bobby flank him as he strides forward trying not to bounce on his heels. "Welcome to Auradon Prep" Buck says smiling his most princely, winning smile. Eddie narrows his eyes at him suspiciously. The one female blinks at him coyly while the other female studies them all warily. Chimney seems to be examining the three of them in a way that had Buck wanting to make sure he still had his wallet.

"I am Prince Buck. This is Bobby, the Fairy Godfather and the Headmaster. This is Maddie the royal adviser and she will be your coordinator here" Buck said looking between the four kids in front of him but his gaze kept snagging on the attractive man in front of him.

Eddie stirred. "Fairy Godfather? It must have been quite a day when you appeared out of nowhere to grant little Cinderella's wish with that sparkly wand" Eddie said his dark gaze flicking to Bobby.

Buck tried not to flinch at the mention of his mother. Eddie's eyes flicked back as if he can sense something in Buck's gaze. "That was a long time ago. As I always say, don't focus on the past or you'll miss the future. I look forward to getting to know each of you in our classes tomorrow. I hope you will all learn something from our grand halls. Perhaps you will even teach us something valuable" Bobby says easily holding the gazes of each student warmly. He lightly patted Buck's shoulder before walking off. Buck stepped forward another step.

"It's a pleasure to meet you all. You must be Chimney Han" Buck reached a hand out shaking his hand. Chimney grabbed his hand in a tight sticky squeeze. Buck smiled pulling his hand back and discreetly wiping his hand on his pants before turning to the next of them.

"Sophia Diaz. The pleasure's mine" she said with a curtsy.

"Then you must be Adriana" Buck smiled kindly.

"Indeed your honor" Adriana smiled warmly.

"Buck is fine" he laughed.

"And you must be Eddie Diaz" Buck says taking Eddie's hand in his. His heart stops in his chest as he pauses right in front of Eddie.

~

Eddie:

Eddie is in such trouble. Prince Buck is so beautiful he is hard to look at. His tan jacket and blue dress shirt make his blue eyes dance in the sunlight. Buck's blonde curls shine in the sunlight and his smile is blinding. Eddie tries to focus on Bobby but is taken aback slightly by the steadiness and understanding in Bobby's gaze. He had assumed he would see fear or judgement but he doesn't see any evidence in Bobby's gaze. However Eddie is curious when Bobby's gaze flits to Buck at the mention of his parents. Maddie, the pretty woman behind Buck had stiffened as well. Then Buck was stepping closer and then his hand was in Eddie's and Eddie couldn't breathe. Buck steps back withdrawing his hands. "I hope this will be a momentous occasion. A first step in closing the boundaries between our two peoples" Buck says in a polished voice that reeks of royal.

Eddie can't help the eye roll. "Or the day you show four people where the bathroom is" Eddie interjects.

Sophia and Chimney laugh out loud while Adriana smirks next to him. Buck smiles widely, his blue eyes sparkle with amusement. "A little over the top?" he asks bashfully. It's almost endearing the way his head tilts and his blue eyes dance.

"Just a little" Eddie admits.

"So much for first impressions" Buck laughs again, the sound warm and inviting. Eddie feels a strange desire to smile back and he schools his face.

Maddie clears her throat softly. "Right. There is a welcome breakfast. I hope you have brought your appetites" Buck says stepping back and holding out a hand. Eddie takes charge walking in the direction of the large tables.

"I'm really excited for you all to be here. We are going to have the students introduce themselves" Buck says stepping in line next to him.

"Prince Buck wants us to introduce ourselves. I wrote a twenty minute speech as per his princely request" a woman with dark skin and glasses walked over smirking. Eddie watched curiously as Prince Buck maturely rolled his eyes. "This is Hen, daughter of Mulan. Don't trust a word she says" Buck says smiling crookedly. Suddenly her hand reaches out and grabs Chim's hand. Eddie gapes in surprise as Hen smiles devilishly.

"Have to be quicker than that for a villain's kid" she teased. Chimney smiles in surprise.

"Impressive. For a princess's kid" Chimney laughed.

"You should see her on the tourney field" Maddie commented sitting across from Chimney. Chimney's eyes flick to her and Eddie thinks he sees a flicker of something before he hides it.

"No idea what that is. But I heard food mentioned?" Chimney says smiling broadly. Eddie sits down next to him and Buck sits next to him at the head of the table. Their hands brush against each other on the table and Eddie feels a similar tingle race along his skin. He promised his father no distractions. He glanced up to meet Buck's gaze and warm, joyful smile.

He is so screwed.

Chapter 2: Don't You Wanna Be Very Very Good at Being Bad?

Summary:

The VKs have their first day of school while learning all they can of the magic wand.

Chapter Text

Eddie:

Eddie can't help but be amused by the absurd amount of students who traipse past to introduce themselves. Eddie would have tried to remember some of their names but honestly he doesn't plan to be here long enough to remember anyone. Honestly he just wants to eat and ignore the swooping sensation in his stomach each time Buck chimes in next to him or smiles that brilliant smile at him. Sitting across from him is Hen, Karen, and Maddie. Unfortunately more students are filling in their table. Eddie has never been one with a large circle and he feels himself tensing slightly. Large groups on the Isle meant trouble. "So these are the villain's kids" a lilting voice says sitting down next to Maddie. The boy appears to be around 16 with light brown perfectly coiffed hair, strong jaw and an impeccable pink dress shirt and slacks. Eddie notes the slightest hint of irritation cross her features and she sends Chim the smallest of smirks.

"This is Prince Drew" Buck introduces almost stiffly.

"You three are Maleficent's kids right? Yeah I'm sure it's all old news that your mother tried to kill my parents" Drew says pettily, his green eyes flashing.

"Let me guess your mother is Aurora" Adriana says flatly.

"Sleeping Beauty. Obviously" Drew says with a flourish at his face. Eddie rolls his eyes.

"Yeah we've heard the name. It's old news that your parents invited everyone in the entire kingdom to their stupid christening but our mother" Sophia replies sarcastically, her eyes flashing coyly.

"Water under the bridge" Eddie said glancing over at his sisters a silent warning before looking over to Drew. Daring him to challenge him.

"Drew! They are not here to bring up old grudges. Let's all just enjoy our breakfast. Tiana made her famous crepes" Buck said, his voice light but Eddie heard the warning tone in his voice.

"I do love a good crepe. Would you like one?" Drew asked Adriana civilly grabbing a platter. Adriana frowned at him.

"What is a crep?" Eddie asked cautiously knowing Adriana's pride was holding her back from responding.

Buck laughed again, the sound rolling across the table. "You guys are in for a treat. They are like pancakes but a thousand percent better" Buck tells them gesturing for the dishes to be sent down.

"You can put chocolate, honey, or peanut butter on it. And then add fruit. It's delicious" Maddie tells them demonstrating how to make one neatly.

"Or you can add every topping we have and make a mess of yourself" Hen teases as Buck finishes his overstuffed chocolate, peanut butter mess.

"Come on Eddie which would you rather have a boring chocolate and blueberries crepe  or a grand culinary experience?" Buck teased smiling at him like he's known him for years.

"Give me the works I guess" he replies with a shrug. Buck's answering smile grows impossibly more. Buck grabs his plate and begins to make him a crepe and Eddie watches his pale princely hands as he puts on layers of chocolate, peanut butter sauce, and honey, and then piles of fruit.

"You won't regret it" Buck says softly handing him back his plate and his blue eyes hold his, a challenge rising in them. Eddie has never backed down from a challenge. He goes to grab it with his hands when warm fingers wrap around his wrist.

"This you may want to eat with a fork and knife unless you want to wear your food" Buck advises.

"Like Buck usually does" Karen replies. Eddie pulls his hand back and grabs the decorative fork and knife. Back home these two items would have been enough for a few meals at least. His family was lucky to never have been starving but food was always scarce on the Isle.

Feeling Buck's eyes on him he carefully gets a forkful of crepe and fruit and eats it. "Mmm oh my god" Eddie moans unable to control himself as the delicious flavors blast the inside of his mouth. He glances up to find Buck looking a little pink but he smiles happily showing a small dimple in his cheek.

"I told you it was good" Buck tells him smugly. Eddie would respond but he's a little busy devouring everything on his plate.

~

Chimney:

Chimney has always had to be good at getting in and out of places. Stealing was how you stayed alive on the Isle especially when his mom was sick and his dad wasn't around. Then it became his contribution to their group, the VKs. Now his mind is buzzing with so many luxurious items. None of it is locked away and Chim wonders how much of it he can snatch in the short time they are here. He had already snagged six pieces of silverware, his crystal goblet, and Drew's wallet. "You don't have to keep doing that. There will be no place for you to sell it here" Maddie advised as she lead the way through the school after their breakfast.

Chimney startled. He didn't think she had been noticing him at all and he had been in the process of slipping a book from a nearby shelf into his pants pocket. Maddie turned to him with a knowing but not judgemental look in her deep brown eyes. She gave him a shy warm smile when he placed the book back on the shelf. Maddie was beautiful beyond words. Her pale skin and soft brown hair gave Snow White a run for her money. In fact, Chimney realized Maddie had not mentioned her parentage at all.

"Habit I guess. On the isle we have to be constantly looking for a score" Chimney says embarrassedly.

"I'm guessing thieving was your contribution to your group? You have the flirt, the brains, the muscle, and the thief" Maddie guesses nodding to each Diaz sibling as they traipsed through the hallway behind them following at their own paces. Chimney had been surprised Eddie let him go ahead but maybe Eddie had thought Chimney stood a chance of getting through to Maddie. She was the royal adviser she could be a good source of information.

"I suppose so. We all have our talents. Mostly from our parents. What about you? You never mentioned your parents" Chimney asked curiously. She glanced at him and something assessing filled those hazel eyes.

"My parents are the King and Queen of Auradon: Queen Cinderella and King Philip Buckley. I...I lost my royal status when I was 17. Now I am tasked with being an adviser for my brother and helping out around Auradon Prep. Bobby has let me start teaching a class" Maddie says a strange fragile yet steely look in her eyes. Chimney does not possess Sophia's charms and he thinks desperately on how to breach the subject without driving her away.

"Classes about magic or magic items? Like Bobby's magic wand?" Chimney asks. He notices the Diaz triplets eyeing him behind them, their attention focusing on them.

Maddie blinks at him. "Magic is forbidden in Auradon Prep. There's a rulebook in each of your dormitories explaining the rules for using magic and magical items" Maddie tells him formally.

"But that's not fair that we can't use magical items but Bobby uses his wand whenever he wants" Sophia chimes in pouting childishly. Chimney resisted the urge to roll his eyes at the overacting.

"Actually Bobby only uses it for major events such as Buck's upcoming coronation. Otherwise all dangerous magical items are safe in the museum" Maddie tells her, her gaze flickering between the three Diaz siblings behind him and Chimney.

"What a waste" Adriana snorts softly.

"Well this is the girls dormitory. Here's your class schedule. I'm pretty sure Buck will be along tomorrow to walk you to your classes but if you get lost I'll be around. Breakfast is served at 8 am in the Grand Hall next door. Lunch is in the same place at 12 pm. Dinner is at 5 pm" Maddie tells them handing a paper and a map to Adriana and Sophia.

"Wait we aren't sharing a room?" Eddie interjects stepping forward.

"No boys stay in the dormitory to the left" Maddie gestures towards a decidedly less feminine hallway leading to several more bedrooms.

"I can't look after us if we aren't sleeping near each other" Eddie says stiffly.

Maddie's face softens and Chimney feels his stomach twist. "There's no need to be scared. No harm will come to your sisters or you. You are safe here" Maddie says giving a soft pat to Eddie's shoulder. Eddie looks like he is considering rejecting the touch but he sighs heavily.

"Girls your luggage is in your room if you would like to unpack" Maddie says opening the door with a slim gold key.

"That should only take Adriana a week" Sophia grins snatching the key from Maddie's grasp and sauntering inside with Adriana on her heels. The door shuts with a click behind them but based on the squeals and shrieks Chimney would guess the room is acceptable.

"We aren't held responsible for any damages right?" Eddie asked her as Maddie continued on down the hallway.

Maddie snorted. "That's for the headmaster to decide" Maddie says dismissively as she stops in front of a gleaming mahogany door. She unlocks the door and Eddie goes in first, his natural protective instincts sweeping the space.

Chimney turns to Maddie. "Thanks for the tour" he says a little breathlessly. She hands him the key with a bashful smile.

"Here's your class schedule and Eddie's. If you need anything I'll be around and oh" Maddie said glancing back down and blushing slightly.

"What?" Chimney asks curiously.

"You are in my class tomorrow. History of Auradon. Buck wanted to give you guys a chance to have some classes on your own so you can bond with others" Maddie told him. Eddie snorted dryly from inside.

"Then I guess I'll be seeing you tomorrow" Chimney said smiling at her easily as his heart sped up.

"Until tomorrow. Sweet dreams" Maddie said giving him a last beautiful smile before walking away. Chimney collapses against the doorway, his heart hammering violently in his chest.

"Aww" Eddie teases and something small hits the back of his head. He turns and tackles Eddie.

~

Eddie:

"Okay boys. We ran into Hen and Karen. They came to check on us and we told them we might want to do a little exploring. They gave us a map of the grounds and the museum is on there. What fools" Sophia laughs.

"You really shouldn't flirt with everyone. Especially when they are clearly dating each other. Also they are nice not fools" Adriana scolded plopping down on Eddie's bed.

"They were just a practice round for the many princes in the castle. So many princes so little time. Maybe I'll start with Prince Buck" Sophia smiled dreamily.

"I don't know based on that dinner I think his eyes were on a different Diaz" Chimney chimed in with a crooked smile casting him a look. Eddie's cheeks flushed.

"None of it matters. We are here for one reason!" Eddie hissed getting to his feet. Sophia and Chimney quieted glancing at their feet but Adriana studied him knowingly. She could always read him better than anyone else.

"So it's about time you cast your first spell Eddie. Duplicate the book" Adriana says challengingly.

Eddie grabbed the book out of it's hiding place he had built in the book shelf. He had destroyed a book to do it but the book was a fairy tale on Ariel's version and he had heard Ursula's version too many to count so he didn't feel that bad.

"Let's see. Here it is" Eddie inhaled sharply and suddenly a soft zing coasted over his skin. He knew his eyes were glowing green. He felt strong, powerful.

Make me an example of my choice
Hear my voice
And make it double

Eddie chanted his senses opening and his body thrumming. The book in his hands swirled into the air pulled into the air with a gust of green wind. It swirled around the book until with a crackle the wind exploded outwards. Two books collapsed into Eddie's lap.

"Woah that was awesome!" Chimney cheered. Adriana grabbed the books.

"Eddie you did it. The books are an exact replica. I want to try" Adriana exclaimed flipping open the pages. Interestingly, her eyes glowed a soft purple instead of the bright green Eddie's had glowed. Her magic was a lilac purple in the air. Eddie smiled broadly at her as two books landed in her lap.

"Wow. I had no idea. It's like the magic was always in our blood but just waiting to be used" Adriana gasped. Eddie nodded. It felt strange and exhilarating tapping into something he had never used but his magic also felt like a huge part of him that he had never acknowledged. He felt oddly more himself after casting his first spell.

"My turn" Sophia squealed excitedly.

"We don't need another copy" Eddie warns.

"I'm not doing the same spell" she laughed eagerly. Despite Eddie's worries, he was insanely curious and eager to watch her do magic as well. Sophia's eyes glowed a dark purple.

On the face, it grows
There is space under the nose
To a large collection of hair
This way it will be fair

Eddie watched a dark purple wind encircle his head and then a sharp sting bite across his upper lip. Chimney, Sophia, and Adriana took one look at him and burst out laughing. He dashed across the room to the mirror and groaned. "Sophia!".

His face now sported a thick brown mustache that curled into swirls just under his cheeks. "I thought Hook's mustache was bad" Eddie pouted making the other three burst into laughter once more.

Suddenly a quick rapid knock sounded on the door. "Turn me back" Eddie hissed but Sophia's smiled broadly and dashed past him for the door.

"Sophia" he hissed as the door swung open. He hid behind the door.

"Oh. Hi I was looking for...I just wanted to check that the four of you had everything you needed" a kind, eager familiar voice spoke. Eddie winced. Of course Prince Buck would do a check.

"Well aren't you sweet. I'm afraid our travels have made us quite tired so we will probably just retire to bed for the evening" Sophia said sweetly and Eddie would bet his life she was batting her eyelashes up at him.

"Of course. Is um Eddie here?" he asked uncertainly. His head hit the door of its own volition. Sophia giggled and then was pulling him out of his hiding place. Eddie glared at here before glancing up. Buck had stripped off the jacket and just wore the blue dress unbuttoned at the top and black dress pants. His blue eyes were wide as they were transfixed on his face. Then he was laughing loudly. Not the laugh he laughed earlier at dinner but a great, bubbling laugh. Eddie felt another zing dance across his stomach and he felt himself unable to stop. He was laughing too before he could control it, a uncontrollable laugh he didn't think he would be capable of. Buck wiped at his eyes still giggling but his smile was wide and brilliantly happy.

"My sister is a menace" Eddie explained.

"Well you guys are definitely going to keep things interesting around here" Buck chuckled.

"Oh you can count on it" Eddie grinned and winked at him before shutting the door. Immediately, his cheeks flushed bright red. What the hell was wrong with him? Did he just wink? At a prince?!

The three of them gave him a teasing look only siblings can pull off.

"Shut up. I am finding a way to do undo this and then we have to make a plan to sneak out later" Eddie says stiffly trying to focus back on the task at hand.

~

Adriana:

"Look there's a security guard. Is that what I think it is?" Chimney whispers.

"Aurora's spinning wheel" Adriana replied. They had heard the story so many times that seeing it in person was a little surprising. Adriana remembers her mother teaching her to sew on their own spinning wheel and telling her all about the magic she could once cast. Adriana became obsessed with crafting clothes and stealing clothes.

"It doesn't look that special" Chimney snorts.

"It's magic it doesn't have to look scary. Look here's a spell.

"prick your finger
like a stinger
send you off to sleep
without a cheep"
Eddie chanted.

Adriana watched Eddie's magic swirl around the security guard tugging him out of his seat and pulling him in a daze towards the spinning wheel. He pricked his finger on the wheel, yawned and laid down on the floor in a deep sleep. "Nice Eds" Chimney patted his back.

They pulled the doors open and walked quietly inside. "Look magic items floor three" Sophia pointed out.

"This way" Chimney pointed out a staircase nearby. Eddie strode ahead while Chimney flanked behind them.

"Here we are. Magic items is just past..."Sophia trails off glancing at the letters above the hall.

"The Hall of Villains" Eddie says bitterly. They all exchange a glance and slowly push open the doors. All the people they have grown up around, fighting with, bartering with are plastered on the walls making the cruelest expressions. Adriana hates it. Yes they have done evil but they also spend most of their day doing laundry or running shops in town. Chimney stops short at the end of the hallway. Adriana looks over to see him staring horrified at the image of his father Jafar plastered on the wall. The artist really captured Jafar's cold sneer Adriana has seen in the rare times he video chats his son. Adriana steps up next to Chimney patting him on the shoulder.

"That's not really your father. Just the person the artist expects him to be" Adriana reminds him.

"And who do you think they expect us to be?" Chimney replies guardedly.

"Hopefully we won't be here long enough to find out. Let's get out of here and get the wand" Eddie says waving them on from a little farther down the hall. Her brother was always in command and her heart broke sometimes for the brother he used to be. The one who would be her clothing model and would talk to her about crushes. The Eddie who was a friend to her not just their leader. For a moment today, it had felt like she had her brother back. Adriana glances up at Chimney and she thinks he sees a similar expression in his gaze.

"C'mon. Can't keep Captain Hook waiting" Adriana teased softly. Eddie must hear her because he glances over his shoulder with a glare but his lips are twitching up with a smile.

~

Sophia:

Sophia knows her parents would be disappointed and she should be more focused on their task but...a part of her had been hoping it would take them at least a few days to find the magic wand. They hadn't even gotten a chance to explore Auradon or meet any attractive princes. Her brother was pulling his haughty, superior behavior and Sophia was trying not to spell his mouth shut. Granted she had felt enormously better when she had cast the moustache on him. The way he had laughed with Prince Buck so loud and unrestrained had made her feel nostalgic (even if Buck seemed to have eyes for her brother instead of her who was she to judge). Now that they were close to completing their mission Eddie was dead set on the task. Sophia followed behind him reluctantly. Sophia stepped up behind her brother as they exited they hall of villains and gasped. They had emerged in a circular room with red velvet ropes roping off..."The wand!" Sophia squealed.

"Shh" they all hissed reminding her to keep her voice down. She gaped though at the sight. The wand was just in the middle of this room lying on a a blue and gold ornate pillow on a pedestal. A blue light shined on the wand illuminating it in the darkened museum. Sophia glanced around and saw several framed stories of the triumphs of the magic wand including Cinderella's historic night. That had the largest display.

"Chim don't" Eddie warned as Chimney had already ducked under the ropes. Chimney smiled broadly the challenge hanging in the air between them. Chimney stepped in closer, his hand reaching up.

"No don't" Eddie commanded but Chimney's fingers had just barely grazed the light when a force blasted Chimney off his feet sending him flying through the air. A deafening siren blared in the air.

Sophia clapped her hands to her ears. "A force field and a siren?!" she yelled over the noise.

"Isn't that just a little excessive?" Chimney groaned from the floor.

"We have to get out of here!" Eddie yelled dashing forward to help Chimney to his feet who shook his head dazedly but was uninjured. The four of them took off running back the way they came, sliding around the corners. As they were passing the now empty security desk, Sophia heard the phone ringing and hatched an plan.

"Hello?" Sophia said trying to sound calm while the siren blared and her crew ran outside.

"Yes this is Jimmy. We got a notice that the alarms are going off over there. Is there a problem?" a man asked.

Sophia glanced down to see an laminated page with the alarm codes on it. "Hold on hold on" she said as she rapid fire typed in the alarm code. Thankfully, the noise stopped instantly.

"Yeah no false alarm. The computer guys were trying to update the system earlier and they must have tripped a wire" Sophia rambled trying to infuse sweetness into her tone.

"Those guys are always trying to update something. You have a good night miss" Jimmy replied.

"Thanks you too" she said sugar-sweet and then slammed the phone down and raced out of the museum.

"What was that?" Eddie demanded.

"A cover-up! Now no one will know we were ever there" Sophia hissed back.

"Great job Chimney! Now we have to go to school tomorrow" Adriana yelled as they sprinted across the lawn back towards the school.

~

Eddie:

Eddie is just exiting his dorm when he sees a door at the very end of the corridor open and Buck emerges down a flight of stairs? Eddie makes a mental note to investigate that later. Right now he's trying to contend with the massive grin rolling across Buck's face as he spots him. Geez this guy could double as a dog and no one would bat an eye. Not that Eddie minds the smiles if the explosion of butterflies in his gut is anything to contend by. "Good morning" Eddie says politely.

"Hey how did you sleep?" Buck asks.

Honestly, Eddie had trouble sleeping. When your entire life is having to sleep with one eye open, it's hard to suddenly relax into soft sheets. Especially after their disastrous attempt to steal the wand. Eddie's mind wouldn't stop thinking enough to let him sleep properly. "It's too quiet" Eddie says softly glancing away.

"I will have noise machines brought to your room and the girls. They can be programmed to match your preferences" Buck says immediately. Eddie glances back up surprised.

"That's not necessary" he frowns.

Buck's blue eyes are soft and lovely as they hold his. "I want you to be comfortable" he murmurs. Eddie's heart leaps at the unexpected tenderness in his voice.

"Plus I know what it's like having an annoying roommate to contend with. My sister says I snore but she talks in her sleep" Buck smiles crookedly. Eddie chuckles rolling his eyes.

"I'm inclined to believe her over you. Wait why do you share with your sister and not some other princely student" Eddie asks waving his hands at the students staring at them as they pass. Eddie glances back in time to see Buck's cheeks flush brightly and avoids his gaze.

"My parents felt I needed to be monitored" Buck says tightly and something dark flashes in those light blue eyes. Eddie's heart tugs at the strange protectiveness that comes over him. Buck is not his responsibility but still he wants to do whatever he can to keep that miserable, dark look out of Buck's gaze.

"Be thankful you don't have to do the monitoring. I am constantly reminded that I need to keep an eye out for the other three" Eddie exhales slowly.

Buck's head tilts slightly. "Must be tiring" he says again in that tender, understanding voice that does something compelling to him. If he thought Buck was capable, he would be worried he was entrancing him. Thankfully no one is better at shattering a moment than his best friend.

"Hey Eds oh good morning your majesty" Chimney says smiling crookedly.

Buck rolls his eyes, very unprincely like. "Please it's Royal Prince of Auradon Evan Buckley to you" Buck grins broadly.

"Buck is a nickname? I didn't think prince's were allowed a nickname" Eddie teased and nudged his shoulder against Buck's. Then he froze as he realized what he had just done. Buck raised an eyebrow at him.

"I'll have you know it is a Royal nickname. When I was five I fell out of a tree and a buck carried me home. It's been my nickname ever since" Buck shrugged.

"A fellow tree climber" Chimney smiled high-fiving Buck as he led them down the corridor.

"Chimney is our eyes in the sky. He can find his way into anywhere" Eddie laughs and then realizes he gave up valuable and rather damning information to a prince. What the hell was wrong with him?

"Good to know if I need someone to go into the bell towers" Buck said easily, his eyes warm as they met Eddie's. Eddie glanced away meeting Chimney's questioning look. He blushed bright red and increased his pace.

~

Eddie:

"Welcome to Goodness 101. I imagine it won't be an easy transition for you be enrolled in a formal schooling like this" Bobby says warmly.

"School was kind of optional. You went if you had nothing better to do" Eddie tells him, his voice sounding bored.

"Or if you wanted some free food" Chimney chimes in. Bobby frowns at this.

"I want you to know I will also be using this class to be teaching you on the dangers of tapping into your darker impulses. This may lead me to be fired if others heard me say this but I truly believe you have the same amount of goodness as any other student in these halls" Bobby tells them earnestly.

"So then each of these students is just as capable of being wicked as us" Adriana suggested coolly, her mouth twisting in a cruel smile.

"Yes" Bobby answered honestly facing her. Adriana blinked in surprise. "What most don't realize is that every person is capable of being good or being wicked. It's not our magical abilities or our parentage that defines us. It's our choices. Sometimes we will make the wrong choices and we will hurt others" Bobby says his voice sounding heavier and filled with regret.

He glances away and Eddie spots a framed picture of a child's drawing. The drawing looks singed along the sides. "That's life though. We all have regrets and mistakes. It's a battle but every day we have to choose to make the right choices. Being good is just a series of choices. On the isle you didn't have many choices. Here you do" Bobby finishes the words weighing on each of them. Eddie glances up and finds Bobby's eyes studying him, making him feel like Bobby can see everything he struggles with. Worse that he can understand his struggles.

~

Adriana:

"Ironic that they would let Maleficent's daughter in a class on magic?" Drew says plopping down next to her. Today he was dressed in a silver and pink polo and jeans. The light colors contrasted against his pale skin and green eyes. His face seemed more angular and chiseled than yesterday.

Adriana rolls her eyes. "This is a class for learning. Are you sure you are in the right place?" she replied irritably.

Drew's green eyes widen in surprise and Adriana finds herself needing to look away to hide the blush crawling across her cheeks. "You know I saw what you did for Karen. And for Hen" Drew whispers as the teacher begins lecturing dryly on the history of magic.

Karen and Hen had come over this morning and had gushed over Sophia's new hairdo courtesy of her spell book. After making sure they wouldn't tell, Sophia had spelled Karen and Adriana spelled Hen. Hen had a gorgeous dark brown glittering mohawk while Karen limp curls had been transformed into honey colored locks.

"Just a little makeover" Adriana said stiffly.

"That's gateway magic. It's dangerous" Drew hissed turning in his seat to face her more.

"How do you know it's magic? Maybe it was just hair dye and a curling iron" Adriana said nonchalantly trying to jot down some notes.

"Oh please. My grandmother is terrified of magic. I know exactly what magic looks like" Drew sneered at her.

"Exactly. Being afraid of magic is seeing what you believe. You don't know anything about magic. Hen and Karen are absolutely fine and perfectly happy. So why don't you shut your mouth on things you don't understand" Adriana scowled. For a second she felt a rush across her skin and felt her eyes begin to glow. She looked away taking a deep, steadying breath.

"Maybe you still have a few things to learn. Like self control" Drew muttered. Adriana bit her lip to stop herself from arguing back.

~

Chimney:

"Hey there" Chimney says reluctantly at the end of the class. The rest of the students are striding out of the class.

"Hi Chimney. How was the class? I try to keep it interesting" Maddie asked worriedly glancing up from where she stood gathering her papers.

"You were great. You made me actually want to read a book" Chimney smiled glancing down at the book in his hands.

"I'm guessing reading wasn't a big focus on the isle" Maddie asked curiously.

"Most of us learn to read from our parents or get forced to go to school long enough to get the basics down. Past that" Chimney shakes his head ruefully thinking of his mother eagerly reading with him and walking him to school each day. Then she was too sick so he would walk home alone racing through shortcuts and along rooftops desperate to tell her about his day. If only to make her smile.

"You okay?" Maddie asked worriedly stepping closer. Chimney inhaled smelling the sweetness of her floral perfume.

"I-I'm fine. Just thinking about how the last person to make me want to read was my mother. She passed away when I was 8" Chimney told her slowly.

Maddie hesitates glancing up at him through her lashes. "I used to read Buck to sleep. My parents were always too busy to deal with him so I would sneak into his chambers and read to him until he fell asleep. Now that we are older we share books a lot so we can talk about them. Although Buck now prefers science or historical books while I prefer fiction" Maddie tells him with a small shrug.

"It's nice that you have that. Siblings are great. I know they aren't my blood but I love the Diaz triplets like they are my siblings. We were raised together, braved the streets and fought off any competition. Eventually we even took over this loft apartment and it became our hangout/living area away from home. We would end up spending half our nights there just wrapped up in each other's company. It's a little weird having so much freedom from them" Chimney chuckles embarrassedly.

"We all need a little space to grow. Maybe you will find things you didn't know you would enjoy. Like reading or school" Maddie suggested kindly tapping a single finger on his book.

"I don't know this school doesn't quite compare to school on the Isle" he tells her with a teasing smile.

"Oh is that right?" she asked her brown eyes sparkling with laughter and her lips twisting into a pretty smile. Chimney feels a matching one cross his face.

"Yeah I mean your bathrooms didn't have a single rat. What's up with that?" he demands making her giggle.

"I bet no one was even kind enough to break any windows today" Maddie said.

"None. It's almost time for lunch and I bet the food is all going to be fully cooked and worm free" Chimney sighs with fake exasperation.

"The horror" Maddie laughs, a soft tinkling noise that warms his blood.

"Well let's get this over with" he says holding out an elbow. She freezes and Chimney wonders if his joking crossed some line but then her slim arm is brushing against his.

"Horribly delicious food awaits" she said smiling a bit shyer but so prettily Chimney blushes.

~

Sophia:

"Hello there. You're one of the new students right?" a kind voice interrupted her as she made her way into the classroom, her eyes roaming the area curiously.

Sophia glanced up to see a kind looking boy with light brown hair and glasses holding out a hand. "Hi I'm Danny, Doc's son. You know Doc, Dopey, Grumpy, Happy, Sneezy, Sleepy and...wow" he gulped as she batted her eyelashes at him.

"I think you're forgetting Bashful" she said coyly sitting down primly on one of the stools at the nearest science table.

"Right" Danny exhaled slowly, a soft smile crossing his face.

"Hello there gorgeous" a cocky voice called interrupting them. Sophia glanced over and her mouth dropped open. She had spent most of her life imagining handsome princes in a far away land. Going to balls and wearing gorgeous gowns. Now in front of her stood someone who was so quintessentially royal. Even Prince Buckley didn't wear the royal look as well as this man. He had tanned skin and dark jet black hair with a brilliant, flashy smile. "I'm Jonah son of Prince Naveen and Princess Tiana" he says smugly holding out his hand.

"A prince" she gasps audibly. She sees Danny roll his eyes out of the corner of her eye.

"You must be one of the daughters of Maleficent I heard was gracing our halls. Although no one mentioned your beauty" he told her leaning across the science table towards her.

"I prefer to be a delightful surprise. I'm Sophia" she says holding out her hand and like a perfect prince he takes the hand in his and plants a kiss to the top. She practically swoons. Danny groans softly plopping down next to her and taking out a large science textbook.

For the next fifteen minutes, Sophia imagines all the incredible things she could do or be invited to with Jonah on her arm. She should have spent those minutes paying attention to the tricky science equations the teacher had been explaining and writing on the board. She could tell the way he glared at her, he was anti-villain. He called her to the board to solve the problem but she stared at the problem for a second blankly. Never one to be underestimated however, she pretended to knock over her purse. She quickly threw her books back in the bag and grabbed the small compact she had pilfered from Evil Queen.

"What is the average atomic weight of silver?" she repeated aloud in front of the classroom pretending to ponder the question as the magic mirror in her hand buzzed with the answer.

"106.905 x 0.5200 + 108.905 x 0.4800 which of course equals 107.9 amu" she read writing the numbers on the chalkboard, absolutely none of which she understood.

"I forget. Always a mistake to underestimate a" Mr. Gerard says trailing off ashamedly.

"A villain? Don't make it again" she warns smugly tossing him the chalk and spinning around on her high heel making sure to add some extra flounce to her step as she walks back to her seat. Jonah smiles at her, his dark brown eyes flashing with something.

She gives him a smug wink, her cheeks flushing. "Shortcuts only get you so far" Danny whispered. She glanced up to find him listening studiously to the teacher. She preferred to direct her attention back to the handsome male in front of her.

~

Eddie:

"Hey" Buck says happily sliding into a chair next to him.

"You're in this class?" Eddie asks a little alarmed. He thought he would have more time before he had to see Buck again. More time to get his head on straight. Ha.

Buck's cheeks are dusted pink. "Yeah I thought it would be a good class to take. I am going to be king someday so it's important to know all the magical creatures out there" Buck tells him, a hint of fear in those blue eyes.

"King huh? It's quite a title" Eddie comments.

"You have no idea. I can't even win over my parents yet I am supposed to rule an entire country" Buck sighs heavily.

"Ever since I was born I had to be responsible for my two sisters and Chimney. Always had to be responsible for holding the family name. Proving to everyone that we are" Eddie trails off glancing at Buck.

"Wicked? Evil? Capable of mischief?" Buck said mockingly dropping his voice low and glancing around like a spy.

"You've met my sisters. They are capable of great mischief" Eddie replied with a small chuckle rubbing his finger across his upper lip.

"You should've kept it. Looked good on you" Buck smiled that wide smile that sent goosebumps across his skin.

"Yeah?" Eddie asks breathlessly. Then he shakes his head at his foolishness.

"No thanks I don't need Captain Hook to think I'm stealing his looks" Eddie retorts quickly. Buck laughs, his loud genuine laugh. It makes Eddie smile.

Buck's eyes roam over his face, a soft warm look on his face. "Do you like to run?" Buck asks suddenly.

"Is that a threat?" Eddie asks the smile slipping off his face. Buck barks out a laugh.

"Yeah my master plan was to break you out of the isle, bring you here to threaten you with...running" Buck says making his voice sound spooky on the last word.

Eddie snorts dryly rolling his eyes. "Where I'm from you don't run for fun. You run away or you run towards but nobody just runs" Eddie reminds him.

"I have a feeling you don't run away from much" Buck replies running an eye up and down Eddie's frame. Eddie flushes.

"What exactly does a prince have to run away from?" Eddie asks finding himself leaning in daringly. Buck's mouth tugged up in a crooked smile.

"I want to teach you about Tourney" Buck smiled broadly, his blue eyes sparkling. Eddie is in trouble.

Chapter 3: Break the Spell, We were Born This Way

Summary:

The VKs settle into school while hatching a plan for Buck's coronation

Chapter Text

Buck:

"Welcome to Tourney. The aim of the game is the get the ball across the field" Buck tells them as they step out on the busy Tourney field. Buck was eager to see what Chimney and Eddie could do. So far Buck was happy with his progress. The other students seemed receptive of the VKs, they had attended class with no incidents, and now Buck was getting them interested in extracurriculars. Now if only he could stop his heart from exploding every time Eddie looks his way, or smiles, or laughs. God when Eddie laughs every inch of his body wants to swallow the sound and keep it safe inside his heart. Every time, he seems surprised by the sound escaping his body. Buck would hand over all the riches of the kingdom if he could keep making Eddie happy. Which was a very foolish and dangerous thought for a future king to be harboring. Plus, what are the chances a guy who looks like that and smiles like that could ever be interested in him.

"While dodging the flying objects in the impact zone" Karen adds walking over.

"And avoiding getting tackled by the other team" Hen finishes sipping the Tourney ball on her finger. Buck, Hen, and Karen are already decked out in practice jerseys and equipment. Eddie and Chimney wore brand new pads and jerseys. Sophia had glanced at the jerseys and headed for the stands. Adriana bailed almost immediately.

"You call this a sport? I call it Saturday by the docks" Eddie snorted unimpressed.

"Oh well please. Show us how it's done. Buck is our usual quarterback so he'll run the ball. All you guys have to do is make it across the field" Hen told him.

Eddie and Chimney bumped fists. "Grab a stick, shield, and helmet" Buck told them gesturing to a table of gear.

"I don't remember having shields on the isle" Chimney laughed slipping one on.

"We did have sticks" Eddie laughs. Buck pauses at this making Eddie laugh louder.

"Alright boys. The boys in blue are on your team and yellow is the other team. Get ready we got Jonah at the shooter" Karen called gesturing to her brother. Buck would never say it out loud but he couldn't understand how Karen got all the brains of her family. Jonah did get the looks though. Karen was pretty but Jonah was undeniably prettier. Buck may have dragged him into a closet once at a ball. Karen smacked him for that one and he had promised never again. Compared to the man next to him though, Buck could admit he wanted a lot more than just a pretty face. Someone who makes him feel electric and who is snarky and sometimes looks at him with such understanding that Buck just wants to cross the short distance between them and...

"Your majesty!" Hen yells startling Buck from where he stood staring at Eddie, a helmet in his hands.

Buck slams the helmet on his head to hide his bright red face. "Let's do this" he says eagerly.

Chimney snorts softly behind him. They all line up on the end line. Captain Bobby blows his whistle.

Like a tank Eddie takes off plowing a clear path for Buck. Buck smiles scooping up the Tourney ball keeping in easy possession as the other team is all knocked to the ground. Every few minutes he manages a clean pass to Chimney who is always open. Buck watches in shocked amazement as Eddie dodges and flips across the projectiles. Chimney passes the ball back to him and Buck would have been hit but he feels a shoulder pressed against him as Eddie holds up a shield blocking for him until he's in the endzone. Buck aims the ball and sails it through the net. Buck whoops and spins to face Eddie. Eddie smiles easily.

"That was incredible! You are badass. You can have my back anytime" Buck says holding out a hand. Eddie glances down at it and then back up at him.

"Or you can have mine" Eddie suggests slipping his hand into Buck's. Buck grins something warm and tender flowing between them. He swears Eddie feels something too by the shy but earnest smile he gives Buck.

"If this is what you princes do for fun we have been missing out" Chimney laughs roping an arm over both of their shoulders.

"You were pretty amazing too. The way you managed to always find the open spot" Buck complimented.

"Amazing! Welcome to the 118 boys. I think it's time we teach you something called a rule book" Bobby tells them flanked by Karen and Hen. Buck can't help it. He pulls Chimney and Eddie in for a hug. He opens his arms to welcome Karen and Hen in for a group hug. Squished against his side, Eddie smiles at him and Buck feels his heart skip a beat.

"Okay too much" Chimney complains squirming away. Buck wished the hug would have lasted a few more minutes.

~

Adriana:

"What do you think you're doing?" a voice calls up to her. Adriana sighs heavily. She glances down to see Drew looking up at her looking annoyed. He's wearing blue sweatpants and a gray teeshirt. His hair hangs damply sticking to his forehead slightly.

"Why is it your concern?" she hissed ignoring him to continue her work dismantling the curtains from the wall. She had to clamber up the wall to reach the curtains and is currently balancing on top of a rickety bookshelf.

"Destruction of school property for starters. I'm assuming I can add stealing school property as well" Drew replies sounding superior.

"It's one set of curtains and these curtains are way too pretty to sit on a wall collecting dust" Adriana insisted working the screw loose from the wall.

"You want new curtains for your room?" Drew asked sounding more perplexed than judgmental.

Adriana turned to respond and spun too fast. She shrieked as the bookshelf tipping over sending her airborne. She braced herself expecting to smash into the floor. Instead she landed softly against something hard. She opened her eyes to find a pair of green eyes right in front of her. "You should be more careful" Drew says his voice huskier than usual.

Adriana scrambled to her feet. "You shouldn't distract people" she scolded, her cheeks flushed. Together, they pull the bookshelf back up and place the books haphazardly back on the shelves.

"Explain again? Why the curtain?" Drew asked glancing up and back down to her.

"I wanted to make a skirt or a nice dress. The fabric would look really nice" Adriana says tightly crossing her arms across her chest.

Drew considers her for a moment. "Come with me" Drew says walking away. He pauses across the hall and glances back to her where she has refused to move.

Drew ruffles his hair. "Please come with me. I want to show you something I think you will enjoy" Drew amends. Adriana purses her lips consideringly and follows.

"Why the change of heart?" Adriana asked after a minute.

Drew glances at her. "Anything to keep you from climbing back up on bookshelves" Drew shrugs.

"Stop" Adriana says pausing and listening.

"What now?" Drew asks as she walks down the staircase to her left. At the bottom she finds a young girl with brown hair and broken glasses crying softly.

"Hi sweetie what's your name?" Adriana asks kindly sitting next to her. The little girl gulped.

"Melody. Some older girls were making fun of me for talking to my friends in my aquarium. They stole my friend Peter and broke my glasses" Melody sobbed miserably.

"And Peter is?"

"A turtle" Melody told her sniffling.

"She's Ariel's daughter. She can talk to animals" Drew explained leaning against the banister.

"Oh. Then that makes you pretty special. Sometimes people can be mean because they are jealous. Me and my brother and sister we can do magic. Growing up, people used to tease us for being different. Different is cool though" Adriana promised than murmured a spell to fix her glasses. Melody watched amazed as the glasses repaired themselves.

"Wow. Thanks" she said putting the glasses on and wrapping her arms around Adriana.

"Now let's find that turtle" she says getting to her feet. She cast another spell and a lilac purple arrow appeared in the air before them.

"So this is magic huh?" Drew said sounding awed.

"Impressed?" Adriana asked smiling at him smugly.

"Maybe a little" he admits a warm smile tugging his lips.

~

Eddie:

"You guys were incredible" Buck told Eddie and Chimney as they sat down to dinner. Eddie's ears redden. Buck had kept up a string of compliments throughout practice. In between that, Buck tells him all about the book he is reading about Golums. Eddie finds he really enjoys listening to Buck talk. The way he can recall everything in the book as well as tie it to other factoids he's collected.

"Yeah it's been so long since we've had fresh blood on the team" Hen said warmly.

"Don't say fresh blood. It's creepy" Karen commented plopping down next to her.

"No that's creepy" Chimney commented looking across the hall. At another table sat Jonah and Sophia surrounded by several other females. Jonah was clearly holding court while the females all laughed and batted their eyes.

"I wish my brother would come to his senses but I don't think he's capable" Karen sighed heavily.

Chimney choked. "Brother?" he stammered.

"Yup he's got the looks but not much else. Everyone learns that the hard way" Karen says directing a look at Buck.

"It was one time" Buck argued, his cheeks flushing. Eddie glanced between Buck and the handsome prince across the hall.

"You and him..."Eddie trailed off, his stomach twisting with a sudden wave of anger.

"We just kissed one time" Buck says embarrassedly.

"Oh" Eddie says fiddling with his potatoes, a strange tightness in his gut.

"Where's Adriana?" Hen asked changing the subject. Eddie blinked glancing around the hall, feeling instantly guilty for not noticing his sister was here. Buck had been dominating his attention.

"She's probably crafting. She makes her own clothes and if she gets an idea she will disappear for hours" Chimney says easily.

"Oh she's probably found the Dress Barn then. There's even a sewing club here at school, she'd probably love it" Buck tells them eagerly, like he genuinely wants every person  to have a place at the school.

"Got a club for Sophia?" Eddie challenges.

"If there was a club for hooking up with princes and princesses I would have made it a long time ago" Buck smiles. Eddie scowls angrily at this. He even feels a smallest flash of magic spark in his eyes. Buck's eyes widen excitedly. "I'm just kidding. I don't want to be that guy anymore. I want something...more. Something real" Buck manages holding his gaze. Eddie feels a stab of guilt.

"I'm glad you learned from Princess Abigail. You deserve so much better than that" Hen says warmly cuffing Buck's shoulder.

"Buck's ex dated him for two months and then decided to sail around the world" Karen told them.

"But she had originally told me she would be back in a few weeks. She taught me how much better life can be when you are sharing it with someone" Buck said wistfully.

"I have to agree with him on that" Karen says fondly planting a kiss on Hen's cheek.

Eddie glances up and sees Buck's eyes on him looking up at him through his eyelashes.

"Why did I agree to teach arithmetic? I hate math" Maddie groaned sitting down next to Chimney. Eddie couldn't help but notice Chimney brightened next to him sending her an happy smile.

"Because you are brilliant and kind and our parents forced you" Buck reminded her popping a grape in his mouth.

"I knew I wouldn't have chosen arithmetic" Maddie shook her head ruefully.

"Talk to Bobby. Maybe he can reassign you" Karen suggests.

Maddie straightens in her seat. "I'll be fine" she says decidedly.

"Martyr" Buck teases. Maddie maturely sticks her tongue out at him. Buck gives it right back.

"Wow the royal family is so mature" Chimney teases. They all burst out laughing. For the first time, Eddie feels like he has more people in his corner than just his sisters and Chimney. He feels like he belongs. Except he doesn't belong here. Soon he will have to betray all these people.

~

Adriana:

"Am I being kidnapped because I'm pretty sure I can take you?" Adriana asked an hour later. Drew, Melody, and her had tracked down Peter the turtle. Drew had sat the other girls down and told them how wrong stealing is and how much they hurt Melody. Adriana had reminded them that if they want to be good they have to be kind and respect people for their differences. Drew had looked at her different. Less arrogant and postering and softer somehow.

"You're safe. I'm not risking sprouting a tail by pissing you off" Drew replies over his shoulder as he leads the way out of the school and into a row of cabins.

"Look who's using his brains" Adriana teased.

"Not just a pretty face" he said with a wink. She rolled her eyes but a blush creeped up her neck.

"Where are you" Adriana began but Drew cut her off.

"Here we are" he said and turned to face her, his face twisting with a smug smile but his eyes were eager and warm as they studied her. Adriana glanced up and saw Dress Barn carved into the top of the cabin.

Before she could form a question, Drew swung the door open. Her mouth gaped open. The cabin is filled to the brim with fabrics, buttons, zippers, sewing machines, and everything you could ever need. "Oh" she managed sounding breathless. She stepped forward, her heart hammering with excitement.

"I...I can just use anything in this room?" she asked turning around. Drew had a small handsome smile on his face and he was watching her.

"Figured it was better than stealing. I think there's a sewing club you can join" Drew suggested.

Adriana took it all in feeling excitement fizzling under skin. She turned around. "Drew...thank you" she said simply. Drew met her gaze and she thought her eyes might be glowing slightly.

"Better than the curtains" Drew shrugged glancing away but she thought she saw a blush on his cheeks.

"I have a feeling you will be here a while. I'll let you stay and explore" Drew says as she crosses the room to the nearest machine.

She waves her hand dismissively already sketching an idea for a dress for Sophia. She just barely hears Drew's low chuckle before the door clicks shut. Leaving her in the best place she's ever been.

~

Buck:

"Prince Buck I made five meal plans that I hope you could look over" Tiana says walking across the dining hall interrupting their meal.

"Which dinner are we planning for?" Buck groans.

"Your coronation" Tiana reminds him with an eyebrow raise.

"I forgot how soon that is" Karen said sitting back in her seat.

"Next week" Maddie chimes taking the papers from Tiana.

"The coronation? Where you get crowned king by the Fairy Godfather?" Eddie stammers, a strange gleam in his eyes.

"Yeah" Buck mutters, his fears and insecurities clouding his mind.

"Buck is going to become king in a week" Hen said amazed. Buck nodded listlessly.

"Could we maybe sit up front for the coronation? I mean us VKs have never been to such a celebration before" Chimney asked.

"Only royal family is allowed up front" Maddie says bitterly. Buck holds her gaze regretfully. Since Maddie lost her status, she can't officially be seated with the family for events. A fact that burns Buck with anger.

"And my boyfriend or girlfriend" Buck amends without thinking, his mind filled with a blank panic.

"Not even his dearest friends are allowed up front" Karen teases.

"I should go" Buck mutters getting out of his seat.

"Buck wait" Maddie argued but he waved her off. No one noticed the look Eddie and Chim shared in Buck's departure.

~

Eddie:

"Finally found her" Sophia says dragging Adriana into the kitchen by the elbow.

"About time. Did you entirely forget about our reason for being here?" Eddie snapped angrily stirring the potion.

"The wand is in the museum. Did you find a spell for that?" Adriana asks pulling her hand back.

"No but we found out the wand will be used in the coronation. The royal family will be seated up front" Chimney told her.

"Royal family and Buck's plus one. I think it's time Buckaroo got a new girlfriend" Eddie told her ignoring the strange clench in his gut.

The three of them exchange a look. "What?" Eddie asked his cheeks flushing.

"I'm just saying there's one of us who already has an in with Buck" Chimney suggests.

"No. So Sophia or Adriana who's going to volunteer?" Eddie says angrily.

"I'm busy trying to win over my own prince" Sophia says holding up her hands.

"No I am not messing with a love potion for some lovesick golden retriever" Adriana says crossing her arms over her chest.

"He's not a retriever he's just a little energetic" Eddie growls irritably. Then Eddie yelps as Sophia rips out a chunk of hair form his scalp and tosses it in the potion.

"Sophia! Take this seriously. This is our one chance and now I have to scrap this entire potion" Eddie hissed furiously.

"Okay Eddie you need to unclench. Give us a minute" Adriana says coming around the table towards him. Sophia and Chimney walk out mutteringly quietly to each other.

"What's going on?" Adriana asks warmly.

"It's just...this isn't proper. If...I just can't okay?" Eddie stammers, his heart pounding with fear.

"Eddie. Dad would understand you had to do it for the mission. It won't mean anything" Adriana says knowingly.

Eddie looks down at the potion, his hair dissolving into the mix. "I know about Shannon Eddie. I've always known. None of the VKs care. We love you. This might be a good opportunity for you to get a chance that you won't have on the Isle" Adriana tells him kindly.

"A chance for what?" Eddie asks hoarsely.

"A chance to be yourself. Even for a little while. A chance to have fun with a hot prince" Adriana says waggling her eyebrows.

"A prince spelled to fall in love with me" Eddie reminded her.

"Good then he won't reject you when he finds out what a major dork you are" Adriana teased bopping him on the nose.

"Hate you" Eddie chuckled.

"Love you too" Adriana says easily.

Chapter Text

Sophia:

"You know I was so impressed by you knowing that answer that first day" Jonah purred. Sophia giggled.

"I guess I was pretty impressive" Sophia said flipping her hair.

"You did that all on your own? No tricks in that pretty head of yours" he asked.

"I might have had a little help" she admits.

"Come on. It's just one little secret. How did you really do it?" he teased, running a hand over her wrist.

"Fine. I used this Magic Mirror. You can ask it questions and it answers" Sophia tells him pulling the item out of her bag.

"Awesome. Hey Mirror where's my sneakers?" he asks snatching the mirror from her hands.

"It doesn't work that way" she giggles again.

"Oh. That's still very cool" he told her with a wink.

"Jonah" two girls call down the hall.

"Gotta go cutie" Jonah said confidently striding off.

"You know he calls you cutie and beautiful because he doesn't remember your name" a voice says behind her. She turns to see Danny studying her knowingly.

"Are you saying I'm not beautiful?" she asks flirtatiously.

"I'm saying you are so beautiful you should have your name remembered" Danny told her honestly, holding her gaze before walking outside.

Leaving her with a pounding, conflicted heart.

~

Chimney:

"Are you worried about him?" Chimney asks Maddie between classes. They had fallen into a pattern of meeting in the courtyard between each class.

"When am I not worried about that kid? Our parents only had a son to be an heir. They aren't bad people but after my brother's death they changed" Maddie said heavily.

"I'm sorry. It's really hard losing a family member especially when it changes so much of your life" Chimney says knowingly.

"It's so much pressure for one person and he's barely 16. He shouldn't have to rule the kingdom. I'm worried..." Maddie trails off.

"I know I'm a villain's kid but I'm a decent listener" Chimney prompts.

"Honestly I feel like I can talk to you a lot easier than anyone I know. I'm worried that my parents are giving Buck some leash so they can use the smallest failure as proof he can't be king" Maddie tells him worriedly.

"Setting him up to fail" Chimney murmurs.

"It's why they let Buck..." Maddie trails off once more.

"Let Buck bring a handful of dastardly villains to Auradon" Chimney says sarcastically while guilt twists his stomach.

"Villain's kids not villains. I'm really glad you came here" Maddie says shyly.

"Me too" Chimney says offering her a soft smile. He feels guilt threaten to swallow him whole.

~

Sophia:

Sophia flipped through her purse unable to find her mirror as everyone else in the room begins their science examination. "Looking for something?" Mr. Gerard, her science teacher asked.

Sophia looked up to find her magic mirror in his hand. Panic tightened in her throat. "Thank you Jonah. It's gratifying to see someone still respects the honor code" Mr. Gerard said patting Jonah on the back. Jonah smiled and all she saw was wickedness. Sophia swallowed around the lump in her throat. She expected betrayal from the villain's kids she dates on the isle but her perfect prince? She never saw this coming.

"It will be my recommendation that you are expelled" he said smugly.

"Mr. Gerard!" Sophia protested.

"But that's not fair. Obviously she wasn't cheating since she didn't have that thing" Danny said getting to his feet.

"It's called a" Sophia chimed in.

"You're not helping" Danny muttered to her.

"Maybe she needed another pencil" Danny argued.

"Well actually I" Sophia began to say she preferred ink.

"Really. Don't help" Danny hissed touching her arm.

"Don't all people deserve a second chance" Danny finished pleadingly.

Sophia pleaded as well looking up through her lashes. "Alright. If she passes on her own, she can stay in class" Mr. Gerard agrees. Jonah pouts a little. He looked so unattractive she thought.

"Thank you" she mouths at Danny. He nods and offers her a warm, supportive smile.

As she looks down at the exam, she realizes she remembers some of it. She had looked through the chemistry textbook and gotten a little curious. Some of it was pretty similar to crafting potions. She slowly works her way through the test, having to rely solely on her brains for the first time in her life.

~

Eddie:

"Are we sure about this?" Chimney asks Eddie as they head together outside to the tourney field.

"Worried about the game?" Eddie says avoiding the question.

"No about the plan. I mean it's not so bad here" Chimney says tentatively.

Eddie turns on his heel and snaps his fingers right in front of Chim's face. "Snap out of it. Long live evil. You're mean. You're awful. You're a VK" Eddie scolds angrily, his own doubts and guilt struggling to be heard.

Chimney blinks. "Thanks. I needed that" he laughs.

"Hey Eddie. Hey Chim" Buck says eagerly appearing out of nowhere. Eddie and Chim exchange a quick look.

"Oh I left my phone in class. See you guys on the field" Chimney says patting his pockets falsely. Eddie sees him duck behind a pillar a few feet behind them.

"Hey I made some cookies last night you want one" Eddie asks pulling the special cookies out of his bag.

"No thanks. I try not to eat before a big game" Buck replies easily.

"Oh I get it. Yeah I'm sure everyone knows not to eat treats offered by villain's kids" Eddie says feigning hurt.

Buck's eyes widen and his face looks horrorstruck. "No Eddie I didn't mean" Buck stammered.

"No you're being smart I get it" Eddie sighs moving slowly to put the cookie back in his bag. Buck as predicted snagged the cookie and pulled one out of the ziploc. He breaks the cookie in half and eats both halves.

"See that totally trust you" Buck mumbles with a mouthful of cookie.

"How is it?" Eddie asks nervously while Buck chews.

"They are delicious. Is that chocolate chip and...and...caramel...Eddie have you always had those flecks of gold in your eyes" Buck says slowly, his blue eyes dazed and confused.

"Hey Buckaroo how you feeling?" Chimney asks appearing next to him.

"I feel? I feel like screaming your name. EDDIE! ED..ee" Buck attempts to yell but Chimney puts a hand over his mouth.

"What was in that?" he hissed wildly while Buck stares adoringly down at him.

~

Adriana:

Sophia and Adriana watch next to each other in the audience as their brothers get ready to play. "Eddie definitely spelled him already" Sophia whispered. Adriana laughed as they watched Prince Buck bow low offering Eddie a shield like it was a token of his affection. It was completely dorky but based on the redness across Eddie's face they could see from the stands, he didn't find it too dorky.

"I'm glad one of us got a handsome prince" Sophia sighed.

Adriana cast a worried look at her. "What happened? You were all excited about your prince last night?" Adriana asked worriedly.

"Turns out he's less of a prince more of a frog. Or a cockroach" Sophia growls bitterly.

"Been there. Sorry Sophia" Maddie says sitting down next to her.

"You had a frog prince?" Sophia asked curiously.

"First prince I fell for. Had a wicked heart. He tried to take over the kingdom and nearly killed me in the process" Maddie said slowly, like she's allowing herself to tell the story. Adriana can't help herself. She reaches across Sophia and grabs Maddie's hand lightly.

"Thank you for trusting us with that" Adriana says kindly. Maddie exhales slowly.

"I've known people my whole life and never trusted them with the truth of what happened" Maddie chuckles giving her hand a quick squeeze back before Adriana released her.

"We are super trustworthy. Now if someone was plotting revenge say would you need to leave?" Sophia asked smiling broadly.

"Oh you should know better than to plot revenge in public" Maddie whispers darkly.

"Ooh they are putting Eddie and Chimney in" Adriana notices.

Adriana watches her brothers fist-pump and then join the game. Buck seems to be able to focus on the game at least because he doesn't react much to Eddie and Chim joining the field. The team lines up and ball is pitched. From there, it's hard to follow but Adriana watches Eddie, Chimney and Buck working in perfect unison. Eddie blocks and tackles while Chim and Buck dodge and pass the ball. Sometimes to another player but mainly between the three of them.

"What a team" the announcer cheers as Buck passes the ball and Chim knocks it in the goal. The girls all cheer.

"Game point goes to the new guys Eddie and Chimney of the Isle and our own Prince Buck. And that's the game. 118 is the winner!" the announcer yells and they all cheer.

~

Eddie:

Eddie's heart is pounding as the game finishes and Buck wraps his arms around his and Chim's shoulders. He never would have thought team sports would be interesting to him but this was like a battle. It was intense and exhilarating. He had felt Buck's presence the entire game and his protective instincts had taken over always appearing in the nick of time to save him or Chimney from being stopped or hurt.

Then the rest of 118 rush over and then the crowds are swarming the field. Eddie has never had an experience like this. The crowd surrounding him, patting him, cheering for him and Chim. He spots the girls standing on the outside of the crowd waving. Then Buck is pushed up on the stage and handed a microphone. He looks stunned for a second before he taps on the mike.

"I have something I need to say" Buck says loudly into the microphone. Everybody immediately stops pushing and speaking and turns toward the stage.

"Give me an E" Buck cheers. Everyone eagerly cheers along.

"Give me a D" Eddie meets Chim's eyes panicked and Chimney grins broadly.

"Give me a D" Some people have clearly caught on to that chant and are turning towards him.

"Give me an I" There are hands on him pushing him forward. He tries to dig his heels in.

"Give me an E!" Buck cheers smiling widely his blue eyes sparkling in the sunlight, his blonds curls messy with sweat and dirt. Eddie stops fighting.

"What's that spell?" Buck cheers as Eddie is hauled up on stage.

"Eddie!" the school all cheers. Eddie can't look away as Buck grabs his hand pulling him towards him.

"While I have the whole school here, have I mentioned I'm in love with you?" Buck asks lacing their fingers together, as Eddie's heart threatens to stumble out of his chest.

"Eddie will you make the happiest man in Auradon and be my royal date for the coronation" Buck asked through the microphone. For some reason, Eddie's stomach twisted with guilt.

"Yes!" Eddie calls into the microphone. Then Buck is scooping him up in a hug, lifting him off the ground and swinging him around and around like Eddie weighs nothing. Eddie actually giggles at the feeling of being lifted like a princess.

"Okay put me down" he giggles again the sounds coming out of him completely unrestrainable and completely mortifying.

Buck laughs putting him back down but he's now so close to Buck. Buck stares at him like he is the answer to every problem. It's all just a spell Eddie reminds himself. Buck leans in and Eddie leans back so far he would have fallen off the stage if hands didn't catch him.

Hands right. Eddie looks around at the whole school watching, his cheeks flushing. He manages to jump off the stage and run for it.

Chapter 5: To Something New, Something Brave, To Someone I, I Have Never Been

Summary:

Buck and Eddie go on their first date.
Sophia plots revenge.
Adriana starts becoming popular.

Chapter Text

Sophia:

Sophia is eating breakfast with Adriana, Chimney, and an embarrassed Eddie who keeps looking around furtively. "Aww is Eddie a wittle embarrassed by his new lovestruck boyfriend?" Sophia cooed.

Eddie straightened in his seat. "It's just a spell. None of it is real" Eddie insisted stubbornly.

Adriana and Sophia exchanged a look but surprisingly Chim speaks up first. "Hey if you wanted it to be real, we wouldn't mind. He seems to genuinely care about you. Plus he's hot and a soon to be king of an entire country. He's sort of a catch" Chimney tells him earnestly.

Eddie blinks at Chimney looking stunned. Suddenly a hush fell throughout the breakfast hall and Sophia turned around expectantly. Jonah stood at the entrance, no longer looking so attractive or smug. Now he was sporting a dark purple bob and a matching dark purple wispy moustache. The entire hall erupted into laughter as Jonah stormed toward them looking furious. "You did this you evil little..." Jonah snarls.

"Watch it. You can't prove anything. I suggest you back off and leave my sister alone" Eddie warns threateningly getting to his feet.

"You evil little freaks should go back to the isle!" Jonah yells, stepping closer to Eddie.

"Woah easy bro" Karen says stepping up next to them with Hen on her heels.

"Do you see this?" Jonah demanded shrilly.

"I see it and maybe if you weren't screaming and calling them evil, they might change you back" Karen suggested coolly while Hen raised an eyebrow at them behind her.

"He tried to get her expelled. Karma comes for all of us" Adriana argues heatedly getting to her feet as well.

"Jonah! I will make sure Bobby hears about this" Karen says angrily pointing a finger at him.

"And we will make sure he gets punished the right way" Hen adds.

Eddie sighs and mutters the counter spell. Jonah's hands fly up to his hair and then his upper lip which is now hairless. He walks away muttering "freaks!" Karen follows after him whispering angrily.

"I'm sorry guys. I love Karen but her brother kind of sucks. I'll talk to Bobby about this" Hen says going to walk away but then she turns back. "Not everyone feels that way. Most of the kids here are really glad you guys have joined us. Maybe you don't feel the same but I feel like I gained four new incredible friends" Hen says boldly, in her usual unashamed manner.

Just like that, the angry defensive ripples spreading through their group fracture. "You are pretty cool. I'd be glad to call you a friend" Chimney says getting to his feet. Hen wraps her arms around his shoulder.

"Fine. I guess we can be friends" Eddie says with a crooked smile.

"Bring it in!" Hen demands wrapping her other arm around Eddie's shoulder.

"I can't deny a hug" Sophia giggles joining in.

"I don't do group activities" Adriana says stubbornly. They all look at her pleadingly.

"Fine" Adriana grumbles but a smile peeks through as she ropes her arms around them.

~

Eddie:

Eddie felt the eyes of everyone on him all day so when he had some time between classes, he snuck away. He found a large oak tree away from everyone. Eddie sat down feeling peace for the first time in ages. "I see you found one of my special spots" a familiar voice teased. Eddie's eyes flew open.

"Um...hi" Eddie stammers nervously.

"Hey. I got you something" Buck says shyly producing a bright yellow sunflower from behind his back. Eddie shouldn't admit it but Buck was beautiful. The sun was catching on his blond curls, and his blue eyes were shy and hesitant. He wore a white-collar shirt with dark blue stripes and dark jeans. His cheeks were flushed pink which matched the pink of his birthmark.

"No roses?" Eddie asked, taking the flower.

"My parents like roses. I never cared for them" Buck says slowly sitting down next to him but Eddie can't help but feel the awkward space between them.

"Thank you. I've never gotten flowers before" Eddie says raising the flower to his nose.

"I'm sorry" Buck blurts out. Eddie turns to him surprised.

"For what?" he asks.

"Embarrassing you at the game. I got carried away talking about my feelings and you obviously don't feel the same way so we can just pretend I never said anything and go back to being" Buck stammered running a hand through his curls disheveling them slightly.

"I never said I don't!" Eddie blurts out.

"Don't what?" Buck frowned in confusion.

"It's not one sided" Eddie mumbles, his cheeks flushing red.

Eddie glances over to see a brilliant, broad smile cross Buck's face. Buck came closer on his knees. "Eddie, would you do me the honor of going on a date with me tonight?" he asked eagerly.

Eddie's heart slammed into his chest. "Yeah. Yeah, I will" Eddie says slowly. Buck leans in and places a warm kiss to his cheek making Eddie's skin flush.

"I'll pick you up at 5" Buck smiles broadly before getting to his feet and taking off leaving Eddie alone with his racing thoughts.

~

Adriana:

"I would bring the hem down" a voice says in her ear startling Adriana out of her sketching. She has been sneaking off to the Dress Barn every chance she has had. She even skipped her last class because she wanted to spend more time in her new favorite place. A few other students had come in, but she managed to dodge conversation. She looks up and finds a woman around her mother's age with blunt dark brown hair and pretty green eyes.

"Might snag the fabric" Adriana argued looking back down at her dress design.

"Not if you use a cross stitch like this" the woman says grabbing the pencil and drawing it in.

"Wow that looks better" Adriana admits.

"You got some real talent" the woman tells her.

"Thanks?" Adriana says in confusion.

"I'm Rapunzel. I run the barn here. I try to encourage young girls to explore the arts and think it's important every young woman learns how to sew" Rapunzel says grinning. Adriana notices the specks of paint on her fingers.

"I'm Adriana. I'm the daughter of" she begins a little tiredly but Rapunzel waves her off.

"There's no need to bring parents into it. You got a gift girl and I bet if you shared with some of the other students they would really love it" Rapunzel says kindly.

"Hey Mom" a girl calls pushing open the door and striding in. The girl wears paint-stained overalls and has shiny blond hair in a long ponytail.

"Becca come meet Adriana" Rapunzel calls as her daughter walks over, her eyes fixed to Adriana.

"Are...are you the one who dyed Jonah's hair this morning?" Becca asks in a rush.

"Jonah probably deserved it" Rapunzel says knowingly.

"He definitely did" Adriana confirmed.

"That dress is beautiful! Hey, can you design a dress for me for the coronation?" Becca gasped as she spotted Adriana's sketch.

"Hmm I'm thinking a dress in dark gray with gold accents" Adriana says thoughtfully studying her.

"I can't wait to see it! I can pay you" Becca promised.

"Now those are magic words" Adriana teased dryly making Rapunzel and Becca burst out laughing.

"Adriana" Eddie calls bursting into the Dress Barn looking panicked.

Her brother has panicked only about three times in her life. He's usually calm, cool, and collected. "Eddie what's wrong?" she asked worriedly. Eddie glanced at Rapunzel and Becca who seemed to realize they weren't welcome.

"Buck...asked me out...on a date" he hissed slowly, his eyes flashing. Adriana couldn't hide the smile.

"Eddie we got this. I am going to design you a look so hot you won't need a spell to get Buck's attention" she told him quietly. Eddie blushed brightly.

~

Sophia:

"Look at this" Sophia said happily sliding onto the bench across from Danny. Danny looked up surprised.

"You passed" Danny said and she could tell he was trying not to comment on the low grade.

"I passed all on my own! This is the first time I did something just me. No flirting or tricks" Sophia admitted feeling vulnerable but proud of herself.

"Hey that's really great Sophia" Danny said laying a hand on top of hers and squeezing once.

"I bet I can do even better next quiz" Sophia said challengingly.

"Maybe we can study together" Danny suggested, his eyes soft as they met hers.

"I'd like that" Sophia says slowly realizing it's actually true.

Danny's smile feels like a prize all on its own.

Chimney:

"Hey Maddie" Chimney calls walking up to her desk at the end of the class she teaches.

"Hey Chim. Did you hear the news?" Maddie teased with a smile.

"What?" Chimney asked smiling happily. Anytime Maddie was smiling at him, Chimney felt a matching one on his own face.

"Buck is taking Eddie on their first date tonight" Maddie grins broadly.

"Wow" Chimney says but something snags in his stomach. The more he gets to know Maddie and learns to find his place here, the harder he finds it to ignore the guilt building inside him. Now deceiving Buck and making him fall for Eddie so they can take over the coronation, Chimney is finding it harder and harder to lie.

"What is it?"

Chimney scrambles for an answer. "Eddie's dad wasn't exactly...accepting. Eddie's never really connected with anyone like this before. Dates aren't really a thing on the isle it's more...gang activity" Chimney jokes.

Maddie laughs and Chimney finds himself joining in. "Well Buck has never really connected with anyone either. For such a long time I was worried Buck would be alone forever or would settle for someone who didn't actually care about him" Maddie says sighing.

Chimney's stomach twists. "Yeah who would want that? I should go check on Eddie before his date" Chimney mumbles giving a quick wave before running out of the room.

Eddie:

"I look like an idiot" Eddie grumbles.

"You look great" Adriana promises adjusting his hair. Eddie studies his reflection in her bedroom mirror. He's wearing dark jeans that are a size too small, black sneakers, maroon sweater Adriana made herself and a tan jacket.

"What am I doing Adriana?" Eddie mumbled self-consciously.

"Going on a date. It's just a date Eddie. You'll talk, you'll eat, you may even laugh" Adriana teased.

"Isn't this wrong?" Eddie asked softly.

Adriana fell silent as Eddie fiddled with his jacket. "What else can we do? We have to get the wand" Adriana said slowly, sounding a little miserable.

"Buck deserves better" Eddie mumbles.

"Look it's just a date. It doesn't have to be that serious" Adriana said earnestly. A sudden knock on the door startled them.

Adriana squeals softly and squeezes his shoulder. Eddie inhales sharply and walks across the room. Buck stands on the other side looking incredible. Buck is wearing tan pants and a light blue sweater with a black jacket. "For the first time I understand the difference between handsome and beautiful" Buck says sounding amazed. Eddie blushes.

"We should go" Eddie insists striding out of the room.

"Good luck!" Adriana calls.

Chimney:

Chimney is so lost in thought he nearly walks into Bobby. “Woah easy there Chimney. Err…is Chimney really your preferred name?” Bobby asks curiously as he steadies him.

“My real name is Howard but that never really felt like me” Chimney admitted with a soft chuckle. Kids on the isle had been calling him Chimney for as long as he can remember and when the only person who had ever called him Howard was gone, he simply couldn’t stand the name.

“I understand. My official title is Fairy Godfather and I never felt I had earned the title” Bobby told him smiling warmly.

Chimney nodded once but wasn’t sure how to respond. Bobby tilted his head considering him.

“You look like you could use someone to talk to. Come to my office” Bobby commanded but in such a manner that Chimney could tell the choice was entirely his own. He knew the smart choice would be to go back to his room. Yet, he found himself following Bobby into his office.

Bobby gestured to a plush armchair across from his desk. With a flick of his wrist, Bobby sends yellow sparks into the fireplace and flames instantly begin to heat the office.

“You can do magic without the wand?” Chimney asks amazed.

Bobby sat down at his desk and considered him. “The wand is just a tool. Helps harness magical powers for bigger spells but magic exists inside a person not an item. Wands and spell books just help steer and control a person’s magic” Bobby says slowly holding his gaze. Chimney flushes.

“Well I don’t have any magic” Chimney says innocently.

“You might be surprised. I find many people have a small reservoir of magic and then some people like the Diaz's have much larger reservoirs” Bobby tells him. He stands up and goes into his cabinet producing a package of cookies, a tray of sugar cubes and two teacups.

“Cool” Chimney comments looking down at his fingers and wondering what it would feel like to have magic spark out of them.

“Living on the isle must have been difficult. I was happy to see you and Eddie participating in the Tourney game. You were both most impressive” Bobby comments lightly.

“I never thought sports would be something I would enjoy” Chimney chuckles, smiling crookedly. He wonders if Bobby is casting a spell on him or if it’s just his nature making Chimney feel the desire to talk and share.

“No I can imagine that wasn’t a possibility on the isle” Bobby laughs.

“The triplets and I stuck together for survival. We’re family but we didn’t usually get to just spend time together. Having friends is…new. Friends who just want to spend time together because they like spending time together” Chimney continues taking the cookie offered and nibbling on it. They were lemon sugar cookies and were delicious. Chimney immediately took a second.

“Hen was telling how glad she was to have you and the Diazs' friendship. Many of the students have been positively influenced by you all being here” Bobby said as the teapot began whistling in the fire. Bobby unhooked the teapot and poured them each a cup.

Chimney frowns at his shoes. “What if some of our influence has been fake?” Chimney mutters softly.

“Hmm. Well magic can do a lot but it’s most effective when it builds on already existing connections. For example, trying to convince someone to make you tea is more effective when someone enjoys making tea. Those hair spells they have been casting are more effective because the person already has an image of how they wish they looked” Bobby informs him knowingly.

Chimney considers this. He had suspected Buck had been developing feelings for Eddie (and vice versa not that Eddie would admit it). If Buck had been developing feelings, then the spell would be more effective. Chimney remembers Buck’s instantaneous reaction to eating the love potion cookies and his declaration at the game. If Buck had been falling for Eddie before he was spelled…

“We all have our influences and temptations. It’s how we choose to face them that makes them the people we are. Heroes, villains. It’s all just a set of choices” Bobby tells him solemnly.

“You’re a Fairy Godfather. When’s the last time you made a bad choice?” Chimney snorted derisively.

“I was tempted by dark magic once and lost my family because of it. I try to be better and do better because I know how easy it is to make the wrong choices” Bobby says his face suddenly looking weathered and tired.

“I’m so sorry” Chimney says appalled.

“We all have our choices to make and our challenges to bear. If you or your friends need anything, my office is always open” Bobby says, and it sounds like a promise.

“Thanks Bobby. For…everything” Chimney says softly.

“Anytime” Bobby replies, and Chimney finds himself actually believing that.

Eddie:

Eddie’s not sure he’s ever had more fun. Buck had led the way outside and revealed not a fancy car or horse drawn carriage like Eddie had expected. Instead he had led him to a sleek black ATV. Buck had handed him a helmet and told him to hold on tight with a flirty wink in his direction. Eddie had climbed on behind him carefully trying to leave space between them. Buck had revved the engine and took off. Eddie just managed to grab hold before he fell off. Eddie spent the rest of the ride loving the experience. His arms were wrapped tightly around Buck’s warm body, Buck’s warm solid body beneath his fingertips. The forest was quiet and enchanting as they rode through it. Eddie found himself tucking his face into Buck’s shoulder trying to hide his smile.

Buck had stopped before a rickety bridge. From there, Buck and Eddie had walked together across the long bridge. Eddie found himself sharing parts of him he had never shared with anyone before. Stories from the isle, his childhood spent fighting against other villains’ kids. Buck shared pieces of his childhood and the various princes and princesses who visited the castle. “We’re almost there. Close your eyes” Buck says putting his hands over Eddie’s eyes. Eddie can feel Buck’s warm body against his back and he feels a flush crawl up his neck.

“How can you tell my eyes are closed if you are covering them? Don’t you trust me?” Eddie teased smiling despite himself.

“Maybe I just want to see the surprise on your face when we get there” Buck says warmly in his ear.

“I grew up on the isle. I doubt there’s anything you can show me that would surprise me” Eddie says confidently.

“Open your eyes” Buck whispers pulling his hands away. Eddie finds himself in a clearing with a lake of the bluest water he had ever seen. Sunlight sparkled off the lake truly dazzling him. He glanced over to find Buck leaning against a tree, his smile smug and attractive. His eyes were the same brilliant color as the water and Eddie felt an overpowering urge to step closer. Press their bodies together again.

“I hope you packed some food. I’m starving” Eddie scowled scooping the basket out of Buck’s hands to keep himself from doing something he might regret. The basket was heavier than it looked and it smelled delicious.

“Come on let’s eat over here” Buck says leading the way to a stone arena overlooking the water.

Buck takes the basket back pulling out a blanket and several steaming dishes. “I asked Tiana to make us some great food and she was really excited for us so she made us a lot” Buck admits, a soft blush touching his cheeks.

“It smells pretty good” Eddie says warily studying the unfamiliar, decadent food.

“Something wrong?” Buck asked worriedly studying his expression.

“I…I don’t know what any of these foods are. Food on the isle isn’t like this” Eddie says gesturing to the containers of food.

Buck leans forward and places a hand over his knee. “I’m sorry. I forget how different things must be on the isle. Sometimes I think my father’s decision to ban all the villains to the isle was the most heinous act. Far worse than anything a villain has ever done” Buck says bitterly.

“Worse than sending a 16-year-old into a never-ending sleep?” Eddie teases lightly.

Buck rolls his eyes pulling his hand back. Eddie misses the contact immediately. “Maleficent took revenge on one princess. My father took out his bitterness on decades of villains” Buck reminds him. He pulls open a container and holds it out smiling eagerly.

“Try these. They are called quiche bites. It’s eggs, cheese, bacon, and spinach” Buck tells him. Eddie plucks up one and bites into it.

“Woah. That’s amazing!” Eddie inhales, the explosion of flavors coating his tongue as he eats the rest of the bite. He quickly takes a second. They dive into the food, working their way through several dishes before they sat back feeling stuffed.

“Tiana’s the best. When I lived in the castle, Bobby used to bring me to the kitchens and teach me to cook. Tiana’s cooking is so much better though. Don’t tell Bobby” Buck told him breaking the silence.

“The Fairy Godfather gives cooking lessons?” Eddie snorted.

“Bobby saved me. As a kid, he took me under his wing. He saw how miserable I was. He was the only person besides my sister who ever gave me support. He’s the one who convinced my parents to let me to come to Auradon Prep” Buck said frowning a little.

“For heroes, your parents sound awful” Eddie growls feeling a surprising tide of protectiveness.

“For villains, your parents don’t seem to be that awful” Buck comments.

“They have a lot of expectations. For me especially. I have to look out for the others. Get them out of trouble. Be the toughest. Do everything I can not to embarrass the family. Be as evil as them” Eddie sighs looking out over the water and feeling the weight of his parents’ expectations threaten to crush him.

Suddenly a warm hand linked through his, sending a rush coursing up his arm. “I know what it’s like. In a week I’m expected to don a crown and rule. Your parents are masters of evil and my parents are icons of goodness but that doesn’t automatically make us like them. We get to choose who we are gonna be. Looking in your eyes, I can tell you’re not evil” Buck murmured. Eddie’s heart threatened to explode in his chest. Guilt churned in his stomach and his breath caught as those blue eyes pierced into him. Buck leaned in slowly as his eyes held his.

Desire and guilt thundered inside him. He hesitated and Buck instantly drew back. Regret pooled inside him but Buck pulled him to his feet, an easy smile on his face.

“Let’s go for a swim” Buck suggests.

“No…no I’ll just stay here and try some of these delicious fruit” Eddie argues, a soft blush crossing his cheeks.

“Come on the water’s great” Buck pleaded pulling him lightly.

“No really I’ve never had one of these” Eddie stepped back grabbing a red triangle shaped fruit. He shoved the fruit in his mouth and feels sweetness burst in his mouth.

“Mmm” he almost moaned taking another one. Buck laughs aloud, a vibrant happy noise.

“Save me a strawberry” he says walking away. Eddie eats his way through four more strawberries before turning his attention back to the water. Buck is standing on the top of a cliff overlooking the water. His bare chest is pale and muscled making Eddie’s mouth dry.

“Are those crowns on your shorts?” Eddie yells laughing. Buck’s smile even from a distance is gorgeous and bright. He whoops and cannonballs into the water.

Adriana:

“Hey” a cool voice called from the doorway. Adriana jumps in her seat, looking up from her work.

“I noticed you never came to the dining hall, so I brought you a plate” Drew said striding over with a dish of lasagna wrapped in plastic.

“That’s suspiciously sweet of you” Adriana said coolly walking forward and unwrapping the plate cautiously.

“Afraid I’m going to poison you? Cause I’m not the one brewing love potions” Drew replied his eyes sparkling with challenge.

Adriana felt like she swallowed a lemon. “W-what?” she stammered nervously.

“Oh please. I grew up with my grandmother warning me about magic spells and I know Prince Buck was not acting normal at the game. Now him and your brother are on a date. Are you really going to lie about it?” Drew pressed, a flash of hurt crossing his features.

“I…look it’s complicated. It’s none of your business what my brother or any of my family does” Adriana snapped angrily.

“I thought I might have been wrong about you. Maybe you weren’t as horrible as I been taught to believe. Hoodwinking the prince to fall in love so you can do whatever evil plan you and the others have hatched is low. I thought you were better than this” Drew says sounding disgusted.

Adriana felt tears prick her eyes. “Drew you don’t understand anything” she pleaded desperately, her hand catching his sleeve desperately.

“No you don’t understand! I can’t believe I was actually falling for…I’m going to Headmaster Bobby about this” Drew hisses wrenching his arm away.

“I’m so sorry” Adriana mumbles, a tear falling down her cheek. Soft purple light spins through the air as Adriana softly chants the memory wipe spell and watches brokenly as Drew’s scowl slips away and his eyes go vacant. She wipes her cheeks as Drew’s eyes focus on her once more.

“Adriana? What? What happened?” he asked bewildered glancing around.

“You were just bringing me this plate of lasagna because I skipped dinner. You slipped on a button” Adriana says softly gesturing to the plate of lasagna while flicking a button to the ground with her other hand.

“Oh. Guess you should be a little more careful when you clean” Drew said with a smirk.

“Yeah, we should be more careful” Adriana agrees, her chest feeling hollow.

“Alright. I’ll see you tomorrow at Parent’s Day” Drew says cheerfully walking out. Adriana finds her resolve collapse and the tears flood her cheeks as the doors swish shut.

Chapter 6: Should I Let My Heart Keep Listening?

Summary:

The last chapter got a little long so I broke it into two pieces.
Eddie gets a scare on his date with Buck.
Parent's day brings fights and drama.

Chapter Text

Eddie:

Eddie's heart is torn. Buck is beautiful, kind, interesting, and exciting in every way possible. He was everything Eddie wasn't allowed to have. He was a prince soon to be King. A full blooded, male, King of goodness. Eddie didn't belong. Eddie was evil, wicked to the core. He has broken into homes and stores, stolen anything and everything, fought kids younger and older than him. He has magic, dark magic, coursing through him. He has to choose between betraying his parents and his home or betraying...the love of his life and the happiest place he has ever been.

He thinks back on his time here. The Tourney practices and games, the feeling of being on a team, the rush of the entire school cheering your name. The classes and subjects he had never through he would be interested in. Getting a chance to hang out with his siblings and just be kids, not just the VKs constantly trying to prove their wickedness. Playing around with magic and discovering the power inside him. All his new friends: Hen, Karen, Maddie. Even Bobby.

And then there's Buck. The blood pounding thrill of defending and protecting Buck in Tourney like he was born to do this. Buck's endless facts and enthusiasm. Then there's Buck's smiles, Buck's laughs, Buck's hands holding his, Buck's blue eyes, Buck, Buck...Buck!

Eddie whirls around with a gasp as he realizes he hasn't heard a sound in a while. "Buck? Buck!" he yells frantically as he searches the water not seeing any sign of him. Fear and desperation clawed up his throat as he jumps into the water. "Buck!" he yells again splashing wildly as his waterlogged clothes threaten to drag him under and he splutters out a mouthful of water. His head dips under the water and he thrashes more. He can't stop until he finds Buck. Buck could be hurt but he can't breathe. He chokes again as a mouthful of salty water fills his lungs. Suddenly strong muscular arms are scooping him up pulling him back to the surface and he coughs and splutters blinking up at Buck's slick body as he carries him effortlessly out of the water onto land.

"You can't swim? You live on an island!" Buck yelled angrily shaking his wet curls out of his eyes and getting Eddie more soaked.

"With a barrier around it remember!" Eddie roared back, coughing once more.

"And you still came in to save me?" Buck asks in a awed voice.

"Yeah and do you thank me? No. All I get is soaking wet" Eddie growled irritably squeezing the extra water out of his sweater.

"And a sparkly shell" Buck offered pulling a small shimmering shell with speckled brown spots out of his pocket.

"This? This is what you kept you so far in the water you didn't hear me shouting? This is what you risked your life for?" Eddie demanded furiously clutching the shell beneath his fingers.

Buck pulls himself out of the water, water coasting down Buck's bare skin. "I'm a great diver. I saw the shell and thought you would like it. The brown is the same color as your eyes" Buck says warmly. Eddie's heart thunders as Buck reaches out and runs a warm thumb along his forehead tucking a stray lock of hair behind his ear. The move robs Eddie of any residual anger, his heart hammering loudly in his ears.

"Was still pretty foolish" Eddie managed breathlessly.

"I am pretty thank you" Buck teased, his mouth in a gentle smirk. Eddie scoffed but felt his face flame. Buck's smile slowly slips away as he holds his gaze.

Buck's eyes are deep blue and thoughtful as he slowly traces his thumb along his warm cheekbone. "I told you how I felt about you Eddie. I told you that I loved you" Buck swallows dryly. "Do you love me?" Buck asks softly, practically in a whisper. Guilt and panic knot his stomach. He looks away unable to keep looking into Buck's too blue eyes.

"I don't know what love feels like" he admits shyly.

Warm fingers wrap around his chin and pull him gently back to him. "Me neither. Maybe we can learn together. We said we have each others backs right?" Buck murmured, a soft crooked smile pulling at his lips.

"Yeah" Eddie mumbled, his heart hammering. His eyes dropped from Buck's blue eyes to his soft pink lips. Ever so slowly Buck uses the fingers still wrapped around his chin to pull him in. Eddie isn't capable of resisting. Buck pulls him in until they are just a breath away from each other. Eddie can see the hesitation in Buck's eyes but Eddie is tired of waiting, of wanting. Eddie surges forward, diving his hand into Buck's curls and pulls him in the last inch. Their lips collide. The kiss is soft and tender and every bit what he could imagine kissing a prince would be like. But then, Buck's hand is gliding from his chin to the back of his neck and he deepens the kiss. He is no longer kissing a prince but pure Buck. His mouth moves against Eddie's with purpose and skill and all Eddie can do is to follow along. A spark zaps across Eddie's mouth and he gasps falling back on his hands. Buck must have felt it too because he leans back raising a hand to his mouth, his breathing ragged.

"Wow" Eddie manages.

"Y-yeah" Buck stammers.

"We should probably get back to campus. My siblings could be causing trouble you know so we should be getting back" Eddie stammers, his blood racing as his entire body courses with a thousand emotions.

"Right" Buck agrees still looking thunderstruck. Then he shakes his head a little and begins packing up the rest of their picnic. Eddie slips the shell inside his pocket before shakily getting to his feet. An tense silence fills the air between them as they finish cleaning up the remnants of their picnic.

"Did I tell you about the story of the selkies that lived in the South?" Buck asked cautiously.

"I can tell you some stories Ursula tells in her shack" Eddie offers with a snicker.

Buck slips back on his sweater, the material clinging to his wet frame. He plucks the picnic basket up with one hand and then uses his free hand to link his fingers through Eddie's. "Tell me everything" Buck says, a broad smile tugging his face.

Eddie should pull away, shouldn't enjoy the feeling of Buck's warm fingers through his. This is all fake anyways. He's going to hate me soon anyways.

Eddie squeezes their joined hands. "You first" Eddie said, the smallest hint of pleading in his voice.

~

Maddie:

Maddie is sitting in her favorite place, an large oak tree that faces the water. It's late and the moon is full over head. On her lap are several papers with schedules and details to organize for Parent's Day tomorrow.

She hears voices in the corridor behind her. "Can you believe those magic freaks? Why do they get away with doing magic anytime they want?!" hisses an angry voice. Maddie stands up and peers around the large oak. She spots Jonah standing there with his back to her as he talks to his two awful friends, Tommy and Sal.

"I can't believe Bobby gave you a week of detention and that slutty witch gets away with no punishment" Tommy snorted derisively.

"Man I wish I had powers to convince Trisha to go out with me" Sal said smiling wickedly.

"I doubt Trisha is as stupid as our future King. He's off shacking up with a guy as we speak. Eddie probably spelled Buck anyways" Jonah replied bitterly.

"I doubt Buck needed a spell. I heard he barely needs any encouragement to be on his knees" Tommy replied with a twisted grin. Maddie felt a fury rage inside her and went to tell them off when Jonah laughed.

"Don't worry come coronation day they will all get what's coming to them" Jonah said maliciously pushing off from the wall as the door to the Dress Barn opened. They snickered and continued walking. Maddie gathered her papers and stuffed them in her bag. Maddie debated following them but her gaze snagged on Adriana coming out of the classroom.

For the first time since meeting her, her makeup was smeared and her hair was limp around her face. "Adriana?" she asked approaching slowly.

"Oh Maddie hi!" she said, her voice oddly scratchy.

"Are you okay?" she asked worriedly stepping closer.

Adriana looked up at her and then hung her head shaking it slowly. "Come on" Maddie said linking arms with her and pulling her down the corridor. Then she lifted a painting to reveal a secret wooden staircase.

"No way! Chimney loves secret hideaways. How has he not found it yet?" Adriana gasped.

"I think he has found quite a few already" Maddie chuckles remembering last week when he clambered out of a trapdoor covered in dust. Maddie had laughed herself hoarse.

"You two are getting close?" Adriana asked pointedly.

"He's been kind to me. I've enjoyed getting to know him...as a friend" Maddie said simply but met her gaze steely.

She already had one nosy sibling she didn't need anymore. Plus after everything she went through with Doug she wasn't sure if her heart was ready for anything more or if Chimney even thought of her that way. He does make her smile and laugh more than anyone she's ever met. Since coming to Auradon Prep, she has isolated herself. She has tended to her brother's needs and helped Bobby with the needs of the school. For the first time though, she feels herself wanting to spend time with others. Go to school events and participate in them. She feels closer to Hen and Karen than she has since meeting them as well as budding friendships with Adriana, Sophia, and Chimney. Eddie is always off with Buck or tucked in their own little world so she hasn't interacted with him much.

"Aren't you a princess? I'm sure you have plenty of friends" Adriana snorted meanly.

"My fiancé...tried to take over the kingdom and nearly killed me in the process. For a long time I focused on what Buck needed and what the school needed and that's all I allowed myself" Maddie sighed softly.

"I didn't hear about that. Some girls mentioned a Prince Doug but..." Adriana trailed off lost in thought.

"My parents tried to cover up a lot of what happened. My injuries were in fact never reported" Maddie shrugged but felt the pain of all those memories weigh on her heavily. Those weeks stuck in a sick bed away in the farthest corner of the castle. Most days Buck was her only visitor. Occasionally Bobby would visit her and seek her opinion on issues in Auradon. It gave her a puzzle to think of, something to distract from the pain, misery, and depression she suffered.

"We were trapped on an island with dirty water, moldy food, and no freedom. Yet you are outdoing us. At least we always had each other" Adriana chuckled after a long moment.

"I'm competitive that way" Maddie smiled as they navigated through a cluttered hallway clearly being used for storage. There were old desks, random pieces of furniture, and boxes of old decorations.

"I never would have survived with out Buck. I think it's okay to realize the world is bigger than I allowed myself to have. It's okay to want things for yourself. To allow yourself to be happy and...free" Maddie said slowly pulling open a double set of wooden doors to reveal a wide kitchen.

"Please tell me there's ice cream" Adriana pleaded.

Maddie giggled striding to the fridge and gestured for Adriana to help herself. She plucked up a carton of strawberry and opened the drawer to grab two spoons.  Adriana smiled widely and grabbed a mint chocolate chip. The girls lapsed into silence as they ate.

"Do you think your choices, your mistakes are yours? Or are they just your parents control on you?" Adriana asked quietly.

"I think we both know something about fighting to prove ourselves. To try to make our parents proud. I tried for so long" Maddie sighed heavily scooping another mouthful.

"But one day I needed to decide what would make me proud. To live my life for me and no one else" she continued stubbornly.

Adriana swirled her spoon around. "You make it sound easy" she muttered.

"It's not. It's a challenge each day. Especially considering tomorrow is Parent's Day. Villain or hero, everyone has struggles with their parents. You'll see tomorrow" Maddie advised biting her own lip as she thought about her own parents.

"These parents won't be happy to see us" Adriana pointed out.

"Maybe you can convince your siblings to lay off the magic for tomorrow" Maddie replied. Adriana paled next to her, her eyes becoming distant.

"I never realized the cost of magic. It was always this part of myself that I could never access" Adriana murmurs.

Maddie's mind flitted back to Jonah's conversation. "I think we all have a cost. A cost to be ourselves. I have a feeling that cost is coming" Maddie said worriedly.

Adriana smiled sadly and held up her spoon. Maddie clinked her own against it.

~

Sophia:

"Hey Sophia" a chipper voice called out to her. Sophia looked up from her book she was reading in the Grand Hall to find Danny standing in front of her. He looked bashful but adorable in a Auradon Prep tee-shirt and jeans.

"Danny hi" she smiles eagerly over at him. Since her showdown with Jonah, her and Danny have spent a lot of time learning and studying together. She's discovered how interesting learning is when you actually pay attention to it. She's even been going to this place with a lot of books that Danny called a 'library'. The woman working there named Belle had caught her trying to steal a book and even taught her about a special card she can get which allows her to just take out books anytime she wants.

"Visiting Belle again?" Danny asked looking pleased as he checked out the book she'd been reading.

"I can't put it down. I have been bringing it with me to read between classes" Sophia gushed excitedly.

Danny smiled wider, his smile becoming a little more crooked. "Hey I wanted to introduce you to someone. Dad!" Danny called waving over an older man who looked a lot like Danny, with light gray hair, thick glasses, and an curious expression.

"This is my dad. He mixed up the days and came a day early for Parent's Day. Dad this is Sophia. We have chemistry together. Chemistry class I mean!" Danny stammered waving a hand between them and flushing brightly.

Sophia laughs and gets to her feet holding out a hand in greeting. "It's a pleasure to meet you sir. Your son has been so kind and helpful to me since me and my siblings moved here" Sophia says smiling broadly.

Doc shook her hand  studying her distractedly, his hand rough and callused against hers. "Moved here? From where I don't recognize your parentage"

A cruel snort sounded behind her. "Oh Doc that's because her and her siblings are from the Isle. You know who her mentor was on the Isle?" Jonah asked prowling up to their table, a cruel sneer turning his features.

"Jonah" Danny warned sounding angry.

Doc glanced between the three of them with a puzzled look on his face and then he spotted her mirror on the table next to her and plucked it up. "This belongs to the evil Queen. This is her symbol! You studied under her!" Doc observes coldly, his eyes flashing with anger. The Great Hall fell silent as everyone turned to see the commotion.

"Dad she's not like that" Danny protested.

"I know this must be upsetting for you. Come on let's get you away from Evil Queen's protege" Jonah says wrapping an arm around the older man's shoulders and pulling him away, his face blazing with triumph.

Sophia sat down, her heart pounding in her chest. "Soph I-I'm sorry. I'll talk to him okay" Danny told her his face pale and before she could blink he was darting away. Leaving her blinking the tears out of her eyes as the Great Hall watched her with judgement in their eyes. She quickly stuffed her things in her bag and fled before anyone else could speak to her.

Buck:

Buck was having the best date of his life.

He had realized rather quickly after submerging in the Enchanted Lake that his extreme euphoria had worn off. The memory of Eddie tricking him to eat the cookie flitted into his head as soon as he felt more himself, less out of control as he dived through the blue waters. He was a little hurt about being tricked and deceived as he realized his euphoric energy and the feeling like his skin was crawling being away from Eddie was all the result of a magic spell.  He also knew the spell had only amplified what had already been building inside his heart. His feelings had been dialed up to max but they weren't fake. He dove lazily through the water letting his thoughts drift as he recalled all his time with Eddie. His feelings couldn't be one-sided if Eddie had gone through all the trouble of putting a love spell on him. Buck spotted a shell on the lake bottom and dove closer to inspect it studying the rich brown spots. He held it in his hand thinking of all the times he's held Eddie's eyes. Every flicker of emotion he's witnessed cross those beautiful eyes that Buck had fallen for. Shouts from above had him kicking off from the lake bottom to swim to the surface.

He held Eddie in his arms and felt a confusing rush of betrayal and love coursing through him. Eddie's anger for him was a kickstart to the heart as he realized Eddie had risked his life to save Buck. So he leaned on what he knew, he tried to flirt with Eddie to see how he felt about him. He just wanted to nudge him a little to see how he really felt about him. Then Eddie had surged forward and kissed him and Buck may have died on the spot. The kiss was the best kiss Buck's ever had and Buck's been kissed and kissed plenty of people. Eddie's mouth was warm and inviting an Eddie's hands wrapped around Buck's hair making his heart skip a beat. Buck may have sat there all day exploring every inch of Eddie's mouth if he hadn't felt that small electric charge sting across his lips. He was pretty sure that had been a taste of Eddie's magic and he felt curious and eager to feel more. Instead Eddie had insisted of going back to school. The way back they talked and exchanged stories like they always did but this time he held Eddie's hand in his. On the drive back Eddie had tucked himself even closer until Buck could feel the ghost of Eddie's smile pressing against his back.

Buck and Eddie walked to Eddie's door, a comfortable silence falling between them. Buck's hand was linked through Eddie's running his thumb along the bones in Eddie's wrist. "This is me" Eddie announces unnecessarily as he comes to a stop in front of his door. Buck suddenly doesn't want the night to end.

"You have the schedule for tomorrow right? You and the others are meeting tomorrow for lunch. With my p-parents" Buck stammers fiddling with their conjoined hand.

"Are you worried about me embarrassing you in front of your parents?" Eddie teases but Buck can hear the concern in his tone.

"No! I'm worried about my parents meeting you. They just...they never approve...of me" Buck manages his voice getting smaller and smaller. A part of him wanted to protect Eddie and the VKs from their cruelty. Keep them safe from prying eyes an harsh words.

He feels hands cupping his chin. "Good thing I don't care about their opinions. I care about yours. I've got your back" Eddie murmured. Buck felt something warm burrow itself inside his chest. His gaze flicked down from his eyes to his lips and he leaned closer and pressed a long lingering kiss against Eddie's mouth. Buck stepped back needing oxygen and feeling overwhelmed by everything stirring inside him. Eddie blinked twice at him while a wide, shy smile crossed his face.

"Good night Buck" Eddie said softly before opening the door behind him and disappearing behind it.

"Night Eds" Buck murmured softly drifting aimlessly down the hallway. He climbed the small staircase before collapsing against the wall.

"The date went well I guess?" a familiar voice teased. Buck rolled his head in that direction taking in his sister lying on her bed with a book.

Buck walks over before flopping down on her bed sighing dreamily. "I kissed him" Buck sighed again reliving every second. Maddie snickered.

"Slow night for you then?" Maddie giggled.

"It was perfect. He makes me feel...safe. Safe to be me" Buck says softly.

"That's great Buck" Maddie says in a strangled tone. Buck glances up at her confused.

"Come outside with me for a minute" Maddie suggests. Maddie puts her book down and pulls him to his feet. She pulls open the door to their balcony and they both take in the star strewn sky. The best part about being Prince of the kingdom. Getting the best room on the campus. "Where did you go on your date?" Maddie asked curiously.

"My special spot" Buck smirked at her.

"You never share that with anyone" Maddie gasped in surprise. When Buck and Maddie first came to Auradon, he felt like a tiger freed from its cage. He couldn't contain himself and struggled to sleep. He would escape almost every night to explore until one day he found the spot by the lake. He scared everyone when he went missing for nearly the entire day. Maddie made him swear any adventures they would do together. Almost once a week for two months they would sneak off to his special spot until Buck became more settled. He stopped slipping away and he made friends. He hadn't needed to visit his special spot as often. Still it was his favorite place in the entire kingdom.

"Eddie's worth it" Buck mumbled.

"I hope so. You seem much more yourself?" Maddie asked raising an eyebrow at him.

Buck blushed. "Yeah he put a love spell on me. It washed away in the Enchanted Lake. But I'm pretty sure I was already failing long before that" Buck admitted shyly.

Maddie smiled softly at that. Her gaze flitted worriedly around his face. "You're worried" Buck noted.

"I'd be a little worried about the love spell if I haven't seen how crazy Eddie is about you. I'm worried about tomorrow. Not about Eddie but about all of them. Kids are one thing but adults are much harder to change their minds" Maddie fretted.

"Mom and Dad especially" Buck grumbled.

"I think one of us should always be by their sides" Maddie suggested biting her lip.

"I'll take Eddie and Sophia" Buck said smirking at her. Maddie blushed lightly but set her jaw.

"Then I'll look out for Adriana and Chimney" Maddie replied stubbornly.

"Together?" Buck asked holding up a pinkie.

"Together. We'll get everyone through it" Maddie agreed linking pinkies.

~

Chimney:

Chimney is feeling wildly uncomfortable. Eddie and him started the morning with a loud wake up call through the speaker system.  They read over the thorough schedule for today and Chimney had smirked seeing all Maddie's hard work and planning. After that they went to the Great Hall where there was a massive feast and Chimney stuffed himself while Adriana and Sophia grilled Eddie for details on his date. Eddie turned increasingly pink but he couldn't stop smiling. Chimney only caught a brief glimpse of Maddie as she hustled around the busy room grabbing a banana and taking off at top speed. Chimney secretly snuck a buttered bagel in his bag.

Buck appeared out of nowhere and planted a kiss on Eddie's cheek. Chimney watched in delight as Eddie blushed bright red. "Listen I have to handle a few things but I will catch up with you all in a little. Let me know if anyone gives you a hard time alright?" Buck says earnestly glancing at them all before giving Eddie a broad smile and disappearing again.

"Ooh Eddie got himself a prince" Chimney teased nudging him.

"Shut up. It's not gonna last anyways" Eddie mumbled stabbing his eggs. Quiet descended on the group as they lapsed into uncomfortable silence. After breakfast, the school all gathered in the courtyard to welcome the parents with songs and dances.

Chimney and his siblings all tucked themselves away in a far corner. Chimney watched in bafflement at the rehearsed and practiced dances led by Prince Buck himself. The parents all watched and cooed at their kids. Chimney had never seen that expression on his own father's face. He hadn't seen his father in person since he was 8. He had gotten used to seeing his classmates as people not as children of the most well known prince and princesses from across the land. Now though, he watches them all shimmer and sparkle in their very best clothes for their perfect parents. Chimney wanted to gag. He would never be like them he thought bitterly.

"You wanted to see princes" Adriana muttered darkly.

"Princes are overrated" Sophia whispered back but something in her tone had them all glancing at her in concern.

"I had a run in with Danny's dad last night. Jonah of course was there to make it worse" Sophia whispered quietly.

"I had to cast a forgetting spell on Drew last night. He...he knew we spelled Buck" Adriana admitted keeping her voice low. Eddie's jaw clenched and his eyes flashed with pain.

"Buck wasn't exactly subtle at the Tourney match" Chimney noted. Eddie glared at him annoyed.

"I did what I needed to do" Eddie hissed turning to him furiously. Chimney placed a hand on his arm soothingly.

"I know. We know you didn't want to spell him Eddie" Chimney said softly. Eddie's anger deflated and his shoulders slumped.

"He'll never forgive me" Eddie murmured miserably.

"Buck's speaking" Adriana nudged. They all fell silent again.

Chimney watched and listened as Buck, Maddie, and Bobby all gathered on the makeshift stage to welcome the parents to Auradon Prep. Buck gave a quick, eager speech about his excitement to have them here. Bobby stepped forward to talk about the academic excellence and the goals for each and every child who attends this school. Chimney felt like he was slowly sinking into cement with each passing speech. Bobby's speech compelling them all to strive to be the best version of themselves made him feel as if he was sinking more and more. Finally, Maddie stood up outlining the schedule and giving basic directions on navigating the campus. He swore her gaze flitted over to them a few times.

They all watched as the three on stage stiffened as they welcomed the King and Queen of Auradon to the stage. Chimney watched in surprise at the calm, cool way the King and Queen addressed the crowd. They took the stage with perfect posture. The King stiffly shook Buck's hand and gave Maddie a stiff hug. The Queen simply stood regally while Buck bowed and Maddie curtsied to her. Their children then stepped to the side almost cowering at the presence. Chimney hated the way Maddie seemed to retreat inside herself. Buck lacked any of his usual vibrance. Chimney glanced over and knew Eddie was noticing based on the rigidity in his body and the worry blazing in his eyes. Chimney had gotten used to Eddie's inherit protectiveness but surprised how he seemed to be feeling it for Buck as well. Chimney glanced back as the Queen made some pointed comments about expectations and decorum expected from the students here. Buck next to her withdrew farther into himself, his blue eyes lacking color for the first time since Chimney has known him. He watched Maddie inch closer to him and drop her hand nonchalantly before she hooked pinkies with him. Buck gave her the smallest of smiles. Then much to Chimney's horror the King began to go through the crowd to welcome each and every Prince or Princesses. Chimney flinched at the mention of Prince Aladdin and Princesses Jasmine who stood looking beautiful and decadent in gowns of flowing jewels. Next to Princess Jasmine was a massive Bengal tiger who wore a jewel studded collar that probably cost more than Chimney's entire wardrobe. The tiger as if smelling him turned its head in their direction and hissed in their direction. Prince Aladdin glanced over studying each of them intently.

Next of course was Prince Naveen and Princess Tiana standing with their children Karen and Jonah. Jonah was whispering to his father who was glaring in their direction. Karen looked like she was trying to defend them to her mother. "I feel like we shouldn't be here" Chimney mumbled worriedly.

"Yeah I'm getting that feeling too" Eddie mumbled.

"Let's get out of here" Adriana advised. Eddie, usually first to lead their pack, glances back at Buck looking torn. Maybe if Eddie hadn't hesitated then Adriana wouldn't have led the pack. Maybe then what happened next never would have happened.

~

Adriana:

After having to spell Drew last night and her long chat with Maddie she is finally realizing this may not be the paradise she has been imagining. Ever since, she felt unsettled like something is skittering around under her skin. Feeling all those judgmental eyes on her, Adriana gave into her desire to run. As soon as the speeches were done, she had whispered to her siblings to get out of here. She had turned and walked quickly away. She should have been paying better attention. She should have been looking where she was going.

She didn't.

As a result, Adriana walked straight into an elderly woman making her crash to the ground. She let out a little scream as she went down. Adriana gasped in horror. "I'm so sorry. Let me help you" she insisted moving to help her up but the woman with her familiar green eyes and graying brown hair scrambled away from her yelling in fear.

"You! You haven't aged a day. How is this possible?" she demanded.

"Grandma!" Drew called appearing at her side and helping her to her feet.

"Grandma?" Eddie asked warily glancing between Drew and Queen Leah.

"Queen Leah this is not Maleficent. These are her children Sophia, Adriana, and Eddie. As well as Chimney Han, son of Jafar. Remember my proclamation to bring the next generation over to give them a chance?" Buck asked rushing over using his most soothing voice.

"A chance to do what, Buck? Destroy us?" Queen Leah asked appealing to the growing crowd.

"For them to use their wickedness to trick us. You must remember all the things their parents did to us. The evil, the spells, the magic they used to bewitch us all" Queen Leah continued. Adriana glanced around at all the adults as anger and fear filled their eyes. The way the parents stepped in front of their children to hide them from her, from them.

"My daughter was raised by fairies because of your mother's curse" Queen Leah said taking a step closer to glare furiously at her and Eddie and Sophia.

"I was nearly killed and my love was nearly forced into marriage by your father" Prince Aladdin said stepping forward glaring at Chimney furiously.

"Please Prince A" Bobby began calmly joining the group.

"Not to mention the evils my son has mentioned you unleashing on the school. Don't think I haven't noticed my daughters new magically created hair" Prince Naveen said striding forward gesturing to his smug son and horrified daughter.

"Prince Naveen it isn't like that" Buck pleaded desperately.

"Please like you aren't part of the problem. Been getting any special treats from him lately? Cause the whole campus has watched you falling so pathetically in love with him" Jonah said striding forward. Eddie looked like he'd been slapped and Buck paled looking smaller.

"He is nothing but a thief like his father. She's a cheater and a miscreant causing trouble everywhere she goes. We all know who she has her eye on. She's probably already spelled your grandson" Jonah continued pointing to Chimney and Sophia with disgust curling his lip before pointing from her to Drew.

"What?! Drew you are dating her? After everything our family has been through?!" Queen Leah yelled stomping her cane in fury.

Drew looked pained. "Grandma she's not like that. She would never..." Drew trailed off slightly.

"So you have never cast a spell on my grandson" Queen Leah demands glaring her down. She opens her mouth to respond, to say something but she finds herself unable to speak.

"You cast a spell on me? When? I don't remember..." Drew trails off as Queen Leah laughs bitterly.

"This is what they do. Cast magic and spread wickedness. They are evil don't you see? They don't belong here" Queen Leah said loudly.

"turn the air to smoke
thick enough to choke
turn the smoke green
so we can't be seen" Eddie chanted quietly behind her but Prince Aladdin heard him.

"He's casting magic as we speak!" he declares but Eddie's green magic spreads out all around them thick clouds of green smoke billowing out in all directions. "Eddie don't do this!" Buck calls and she sees his hand reaching but she dodges around him. She feels the hands of her siblings grabbing her as exclaims and shouts surround them.

"Guys please!" Buck's voice calls out but Chimney is already pulling Eddie along down the nearest corridor. Sophia is next to her running away from all of it. She takes one last glance over her shoulder at the lessening smoke. She can just barely spot Drew's familiar face in the chaos before slipping away.

~

Buck:

Buck glanced around desperately, his hands coming up empty as the smoke slowly disappeared. They were gone. "I feared something like this would happen" his father said coming up to him as the crowd continued coughing and slowly separating. Bobby had slipped away to try to talk to Queen Leah and Drew in private. Maddie was talking angrily to her mother near the stage.

"This isn't their fault!" Buck replied angrily, his heart still hammering in his chest.

"No it's yours. All of this is your fault" his dad slowly gestured to the last of the smoke, the anger and fear on the parents and childrens' faces.

"Do you really think you are capable of being king?" his father said coldly before turning and striding away.

Chapter Text

Eddie:

Eddie thought it was safer to get far away from campus. It took them a very long time on foot but finally they were able to find the lake Buck had taken to him just yesterday. God it seemed like ages ago when he had kissed Buck for the first time. Now his siblings all sat on the stone ledge looking miserable. "This place is beautiful" Adriana noted quietly.

"Buck took me here. Figured it was a good place for us to lie low for a while" Eddie told her leaning against a stone pillar.

"Perks of dating the king to be" Chimney teased but the humor fell flat.

"No one will be dating anyone when our parents take over. Everywhere will be like the Isle" Sophia commented looking around as if imagining a new world. Eddie let his mind imagine it. Dirty lake water, broken graffitied trees, trees bare of any living creatures. Then he blinked.

"That's what we want right. World domination. We'll be the strongest kids in the kingdom. We'll get to control everything! It'll be just us again which is better" Eddie said stubbornly setting his chin.

"Everything will be ours for the taking. No more politeness or goodness classes" Chimney added.

"No more studying or pretentious teachers waiting for us to fail" Sophia chimed in, a crooked smile tugging her face.

"No more perfect princes or princesses waiting for us to fail" Adriana piped up after a minute, her eyes blazing.

"Let's make a plan" Eddie inhales sharply.

~

Buck:

"Has anyone found them?" Buck demanded as Hen and Karen reappeared.

"They aren't in either dorms" Hen told him.

"They aren't in the Great Hall or the Dress Barn" Maddie added joining them in the quad breathing hard.

"They aren't in the kitchens or the Tourney field" Buck said running a hand through his already messy curls.

"Buck!" a voice called out to them. They all turned to see Drew and young Melody jogging over to them.

"I know where they are. Or well Melody does" Drew admitted patting Melody's shoulders. Melody looked nervous as she held something moving in her palm.

"We are really worried about our friends. Any help you can give us Melody would be a great help" Maddie said kindly bending down on one knee to get on Melody's level.

"They aren't evil! Queen Leah and Prince Aladdin are wrong about them. Adriana helped me find my friend Peter. She was kind" Melody retorted angrily, her lip quivering slightly.

"We know. The parents weren't fair to them. That's why we need to find them. So they understand they have friends here. That they aren't alone" Buck told her, smiling softly down at her.

"Pip knows where they are" Melody said begrudgingly.

They frowned at each other slightly not recognizing the name. "Okay can you bring us to your friend Pip?" Hen asked stepping closer.

"He's right here" Melody said opening her cupped hands to reveal a small chipmunk. It ran up her arm and stood on her shoulder peering up at them.

"Melody is Ariel's daughter. She can speak to animals" Drew explained.

"Well that is an incredible gift Melody. Can you ask Pip where we can find our friends?" Maddie asked in her kind voice. Pip made three high-pitched chirps.

"He says they are by the Enchanted Lake deep in the woods" Melody says after a minute as Pip nuzzles her cheek.

"He's in my spot. Of course!" Buck exclaims.

"This is why we don't share our special spots with boys" Maddie teases.

Buck opened his mouth to make a dirty joke before glancing down at young Melody and closing his mouth with a grimace. "Thank you so much for your help Melody. And thank you Pip!" Karen interjected patting Melody on the head.

"Bring them back. They belong here too" Melody warned them before walking away Pip on her shoulder.

"That's the plan. We can take the school ATVs. We should be back before dark" Buck declared. He glanced up to see Drew staring at them biting his lip.

"It was kind of you to help us" Hen told him. Drew crossed his arms defensively.

"I...I care about her. All of them I mean. I just don't know if we should trust them" Drew said slowly.

"Me either. But they deserve a chance to be here. To make mistakes and learn from them. We all deserve the freedom to make mistakes" Buck told him fiercely. Drew blinked at him taken aback but he nodded slowly in agreement.

"I'm going to talk to my family before tomorrow. Maybe get them to give h...them another chance" Drew amended quickly, a light blush crossing his cheeks.

"I'm sure she, I mean they will appreciate it" Hen said with a smirk patting Drew on the shoulder before walking away, Karen on her heels giggling.

~

Eddie:

Eddie is staring down at the sketch Adriana had drawn. They had just finished discussing their plan for tomorrow in length. Sophia was studying the spell she would cast to distract the driver of their magical limo. Their ride home tomorrow.  "Eds!" a voice calls. They all scramble to cover up their plans. Adriana and Chimney wipe their feet across the sketches in the dirt. Sophia tucks her book away. Eddie steps forward to hide the others as his heart recognizes the voice calling for him.

Then he hears other voices calling for them but he only cares about the one voice. He debates hiding or running. "Eddie you still have to keep up the act. We talked about this" Chimney reminded him frantically behind him.

"Buck!" Eddie calls back, his heart thundering. Then suddenly there was Buck, his curls messier than Eddie had ever seen them, smiling broadly at him from the top of the hill.

"They are all down here" Buck calls over his shoulder never breaking eye contact. Before he can hesitate or think twice he's jogging forward. Buck is moving too and then Buck is in front of him.

"Buck I" Eddie begins, going to explain or deny but he doesn't get the chance. Buck crosses the last foot between them grabbing the back of Eddie's head pulling him in for a kiss that robs him of any sanity. Buck's slick tongue dives in and Eddie welcomes him in. Buck's tongue licks a slow, deliberate path across Eddie's sending his mind swirling. Eddie has to break apart to breathe and he stares blankly unable to utter a single sound. Buck's breathing hard, his blue eyes blazing and Eddie glances from him to Hen who has appeared next to them.

"Hey Eds. You'll forgive us if we don't treat you to the same greeting" Hen patted his shoulder walking past them down the hill to greet the others.

"Okay boys now is the time to talk so stow the tongues back in their holsters" Karen advised pushing them both lightly.

"Thanks Karen. The joke is somehow worse than the visual" Maddie made a face following behind them. Eddie, his mind still mushy, followed the group down the hill and purposely sat far from Buck.  Maddie and Buck exchanged a glance as they sat down next to Chimney.

"Look I know that was awful. The others should have given you all a chance" Hen said after a minute.

"They aren't totally wrong" Sophia replied looking away at the water.

"You have caused some mischief. That doesn't make you evil" Karen told her warmly patting her shoulder.

"I spelled Drew. He was mad at me, disappointed really and I wiped his memory" Adriana said with a sigh slumping against a pillar.

"Drew helped us find you. Well he asked Melody for her help but he was worried about you. He was even going to talk to his family about you" Maddie told her warmly from her spot next to Chimney.

Adriana straightened up a little. "Drew said that?" she asked stunned and she exchanged a look with Eddie. He knew how she was feeling because he was feeling the same storm of emotions inside him.

"Melody wanted us to tell you all that you belong at Auradon just as much as we do" Buck told them glancing from one sibling to the next before ending on Eddie. Eddie's heart tugged uselessly inside his chest.

"None of you deserved to be ambushed like that. I'm so sorry" Maddie said reaching over to squeeze Chimney's hand. He looks shocked and pale as he meets Maddie's gaze.

"Jonah wasn't wrong. I am a thief. I stole three of Tommy's left shoes yesterday" Chimney admitted. Maddie pulled her hand back and then burst out laughing. Then they were all laughing, the sound echoing around the lake.

"After what he's been saying he totally deserved that" Maddie giggled, giving Chimney a broad smile.

"Wait what has he been saying?" Buck ask curiously.

Maddie's mouth falls open as she glances back at him and then swings to Eddie. Maddie jumps to her feet clapping her hands together. "We should be getting back to school. You guys must be hungry and the coronation is tomorrow" Maddie suggests. Buck gets to his feet and Eddie sees the suspicion on his face. They all get to their feet and begin heading back but Buck tugs him gently back until they are face to face.

"H-hi" Eddie manages, his heart already hammering.

"Are we still on for tomorrow?" Buck asked, his voice a little husky.

"Yeah Adriana has been working on my suit all week. Not that she will let me see it of course" Eddie calls at Adriana's retreating back.

"You would look handsome in a paper bag. I was just worried you wouldn't want to be in the spotlight you know with me" Buck finished his blue eyes look downtrodden.

"I would happily step into the spotlight with you. I've got your back remember" Eddie murmurs softly watching the warm light fill Buck's eyes.

"I should've had yours today" Buck says regretfully.

"You can't change people" Eddie says glancing away, the truth of that sentence settling in his gut like a rock.

"Not change but give them opportunities to be better. I...if Bobby had never sprung me from the castle I don't know who I would be. We all deserve the chance to try right? Everyone in this kingdom, Isle or in Auradon should have opportunities to grow" Buck growled, his blue eyes flashing indignantly. Buck's chin rose defiantly. Eddie leaned forward and placed a kiss to his jaw.

"I think you are gonna be an amazing king" Eddie says softly swallowing something sharp and sour knowing if his parents have it their way that day will never come.

"Besides the people standing here, I don't think anyone else believes that" Buck mumbled defeatedly. Eddie wanted to say so many things.

"Tomorrow will change everything. Tomorrow it will all be different" Eddie says instead. Buck's blue eyes study him and Eddie wonders how strongly the love potion is still affecting him. If he is blind with love or does he suspect Eddie. If any of it is real to Buck.

"Boys let's go!" Maddie called.

~

Buck:

Buck tossed and turned all night. Today would be the first day of his reign as king. That is terrifying! He's not ready. "There's our King" Maddie said startling him from where he stood on their balcony.

Buck snorts dryly. "I'm not King yet. I don't know anything about being King. What am I doing here Mads?" he asked despairingly.

Maddie crossed the balcony to stand in front of him. "Remember Buck a royal title does not mean you are alone. We all need others to lean on. I learned that because of you. I thought I would be fine living and just looking out for you. I was wrong though. We all need friends to trust. We are stronger together. Last night proved that" Maddie reminded him and a blush crossed her cheeks.

"Did something happen last night with Chimney?" Buck asks delightedly.

"No...but I wanted it to. I might ask him out at the coronation celebration tonight" Maddie says bashfully tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.

"I'm happy for you. You deserve to be happy" Buck murmurs.

"So do you. Follow that heart of yours Buck. That heart of yours can lead a kingdom. I've always believed that" Maddie said earnestly.

Buck roped his arms around his sister and hugged her tightly.

~

Chimney:

Chimney is staring out the window at the chaos as parents and children begin making their way up to the castle for the coronation. He knows him and the others will be getting royal carriages in an hour. He wonders what the kingdom will look when his father, Mrs. Diaz and Mr. Diaz rule over all. He thinks of his father's cruelty, Mrs. Diaz's judgement, and Mr. Diaz's belittlement. What will the world be like when they allow it to fall?

The door opens behind him and Eddie comes in looking like he slept about as well as Chimney. In Eddie's hands is a bag of cookies. "More love spells?" Chimney asked frowning deeply.

"No um. It's an antidote. For Buck. For after" Eddie stammers, his voice sounding heavy.

"You want to break his love spell?" he asks surprised thinking of the very eager kiss he had witnessed last night.

"After our parents take over and the villains invade Auradon and as they begin to loot and pillage and kidnap their leaders" Eddie chokes slightly as he realizes that Buck and Maddie would be at the top of that list.

"Anyways keeping him in love with me seems a little extra cruel" Eddie manages.

"I'm not sure those cookies will stop him" Chimney reminded him. Eddie flushed glancing away.

"It was all pretend. Today it all changes. Come one we need to get changed before the girls come yell at us" Eddie reminds him heading to his closet where Adriana had hung their outfits in dress bags that they had been forbidden from peeking in.

He sighs deeply. "You know I think even if I help pull off the most evil takeover in Auradon's history my father will still find a reason to be disappointed in me" Chimney admitted finally voicing his deepest fear.

Eddie's face crumbled at that. "Let's not do this for them. Let's make the choice for ourselves. Do this to prove ourselves. VKs all the way right. This is the family we choose" Eddie says stubbornly holding Chimney's gaze.

He smiles at that, not only the confirmation that despite everything they are family but also the idea that they get to choose for themselves. "To family" Chimney agrees holding out a fist. Eddie grins and bumps his fist.

Suddenly, their door crashes open. "You aren't dressed yet?!" Adriana screeched.

~

Eddie:

Eddie is roughly pulled away from the others and steered towards the largest and fanciest carriage. It's open and plush and Eddie kind of wants to gag. "Mr. Eddie Diaz, Royal Carriage # 1" the irritated royal assistant scowls flapping towards the carriage as Eddie refuses to move.

"Where's Buck?" he asks. Eddie has been dating Buck for two days now but he hasn't been treated to the royal treatment yet. Now he is the Prince's official suitor and he is annoyed by all the fuss. Although he doesn't want anyone else to get to be in this position he thinks bitterly at the jealous whispers and looks he had been gathering lately.

"The Royal Prince as always is doing a press coverage right now and then will be posing for photos as he joins you in front of the school" the man grits out, checking his watch. His gaze swings over Eddie inspecting every inch of him. Eddie smirks in pride as the attendant seems to approve of his appearance. Thank you Adriana he thinks smugly as he swings himself up into the carriage. He smooths a hand over his dark purple suit and pale blue dress shirt with matching dark purple tie. He watched in boredom as carriage after carriage continued to fill and be sent off to the castle. His siblings had been carted away nearly ten minutes ago. Eddie was nodding off when someone tossed something into his lap. Eddie startled awake glancing down. In his lap sat a corked vial of purple liquid. He glanced over in surprise to see Bobby smiling at him.

"What's this?" he asked curiously.

"Pepper-up potion. Keep you awake for hours. I made it for Buck but I doubt he'll mind if you share. Trust me you will want to look your best. The press will be all over you in a few minutes" Bobby advised as an attendant came over to try to pull Bobby away to the carriage right in front of Eddie's.

"Bobby?" Eddie called suddenly, desperation creeping in.

"Yes Eddie" Bobby said stopping in his tracks.

"T-thanks. For everything you did for me and my siblings" Eddie says shame pooling in his gut. He knows he has to do right by his family and his parents but that doesn't mean he enjoys it.

Bobby considers him. He waves off the harried attendant before coming to stand on the steps to Eddie's carriage. "A crown does not make a king, nor does magic make you a wizard. Your choices are what fulfill your own prophecy. Kings can be just as evil as witches. All we can do every day is earn our spots in life. Some days we are a little unworthy. Yesterday I accidentally spelled a cup to fall on the Queen. Not my finest choice. I hope to make better choices today" Bobby tells him earnestly.

"What did the Queen do?" Eddie asked as Bobby hoped down once more.

"Insulted some kids I happen to care for" Bobby said simply with a crooked smile. Eddie sat back thinking over Bobby's words as he popped the cork on the drink and took  hearty gulp. Instantly, his blood rushed and his heart pounded. His vision cleared and he blinked as his carriage began to move forward.

The horses pulled him along the main road coming to a stop in front of the fountain which was glittering in the morning sun. He spotted Buck wearing his official royal uniform in dark blue and glittering gold, his curly hair styled back. Eddie smiled to himself knowing how much gel was used to keep Buck's curls in place and how much he hated the stiffness of gel. Buck navigated through the crowd smiling his Princely smile as Hen called it. Then he stopped in his tracks as he looked up and spotted Eddie. Eddie watched as Buck's gaze burned a track along his arms, chest, and up to his face. Buck's smile grew until it was the smile Buck seemed to save just for him. Eddie glanced away, guilt filling his gut, only for a few photographers to have turned their cameras on him. He blinked and tried to smile as their flashes startled him.

"Are you the Princes new date?" "Are you two dating?" "Are you the Prince's official suitor?" "Is there marriage in the future?" the reporters shouted questions at him as he tried to smile and wave.

"Are you Maleficent's son?" one reporter with bright red hair and a cruel smile asked. All the reporters paused for a minute before the throng got even worse now surrounding the carriage on all sides. Buck hopped into the carriage.

"Sorry we must be going" Buck called calmly over the noise and the horses began to slowly trot forwards. Buck finally turned to him, his eyes raking over him again.

"You look...gorgeous Eds" Buck says appreciatively.

"Thank Adriana she created the suit" Eddie shrugged bashfully. Buck smiles and leans in. This will be our last kiss Eddie thinks miserably. He gently cups Buck's face under his palms and drinks him in. If he can't have Buck he needs him to know how he feels. He licks into Buck's mouth for the first time and relishes the sweet taste. He breaks apart his heart hammering wildly. I wish I could keep you he thinks.

Buck blinks slowly at him. "Wow" Buck whispers.

Eddie shifts back in his seat, a bright blush crossing his cheeks. The movement shifts the potion in his lap. "Uh Bobby made this for you. Also I made you some special cookies for after the coronation. Thought you might have missed breakfast" Eddie stammered pulling the bag he made out of his jacket pocket and handing both over to Buck.

"I don't think I need this anymore" Buck mumbled but took a swig of the potion. It seemed to make him become more alert though because he studied the cookies in his hand with a small frown.

"Well I'm hungry now" Buck says, his voice strange before slipping the bag open and popping a cookie in his mouth.

"No! Uh do you feel okay?" Eddie asked panic and fear gripping him. He wasn't ready to see the betrayal or hurt in those blue eyes but also if Buck freaked out this would ruin everything.

"Give the anti-love potion a few minutes to take effect and I'm sure I'll be fine" Buck says easily taking another.

Eddie nods absently trying to think of something to say or a way out when Buck's words hit him. He snaps his head in Buck's direction as Buck giggles at his reaction.

"You knew?!" Eddie demands shocked.

"Yeah since our date. The Enchanted Lake washes away any enchantments" Buck explains with a smirk.

"And you've been just faking it ever since?" Eddie asked in confusion. Buck's smirk falls away and his blue eyes bore into him as he replays every kiss, every touch, every laugh.

"I haven't been faking anything. In fact" Buck swallows nervously. He slides a large gold ring off his finger spinning it between his fingers.

"This ring has been in my family for generations. My grandfather told me to wear it you have to be brave, kind, and worthy. I want you to wear it" Buck says softly taking Eddie's hand and sliding the ring on his left hand.

"Me?" Eddie gasps as the ring fits perfectly on his tanned finger.

"The ring is everything I want to be. The King I want to be. I've never felt worthy until you showed up in my life" Buck tells him. Eddie glances down at the ornate gold ring.

"It's beautiful" Eddie murmurs, his heart lurching traitorously. Buck leans forward and places a soft kiss to Eddie's hand.

"So are you" Buck says. Eddie thinks about how to respond but a flash interrupted them.

Thankfully they were pulling to a stop in front of the castle and there was even more reporters, cameras, princes, princesses, and many royal attendants flapping around directing guests. Buck hopped down first holding out a hand for Eddie.

~

Sophia:

Sophia was having a lot more trouble with her task than anticipated. For starters, there are people everywhere. Servers, royal attendants, princes, princesses, royal elite from here and far. Then there's her classmates. Every time she tries to wander away from the crowd she has to evade someone. First Hen and Karen, then Maddie. Maddie was definitely suspicious but Sophia is pretty sure she believed she was just going to set up a prank or steal something not take over the castle. Still Sophia was not her usual calm collected self. She had just managed to drive garage where the family kept the magical royal limos. "Sophia!" an eager voice called. Sophia spun around to find Danny and Doc striding toward her.

"I...I was just" Sophia began but Danny snorted shaking his head at her.

"Snooping around the royal castle? Going to wrap the car in plastic" Danny teased nudging her.

"I was thinking of adding just a little glitter on all the chairs" Sophia quipped back.

"Ooh that's a menace. But it's funny not evil" Doc said stepping forward. Sophia tensed slightly.

"My dear I want to apologize. I should know better than anyone to not draw any hypothesis's without proper examination and research. I really hope you won't hold a grudge against me or my boy" Doc said earnestly, his eyes behind his glassy pleading.

"I've watched my mother hold a grudge my entire life. I get my revenge quickly and swiftly and then move on" Sophia teased smiling at him.

"Well then my dear you can sit next to me and put a whoopie cushion on my chair" Doc said roping an arm around her shoulders.

"But I" Sophia said glancing back at the cars.

"Trust me Buck and Eddie are about to make their way inside. They are about to lock the doors soon" Danny told her.

I'm too late.

~

Adriana:

As planned, Adriana got to the castle first and chose a seat in the front all the way to the right. She left her jacket and purse on two seats and then purposely made her way around. The coronation is taking place in the royal cathedral. There's hundreds of plush velvet chairs in neat rows on both sides of the aisle. The church is beautiful and lavish from the marble walls, stained glass windows, and fancy tapestries of the history of the royal family.

Adriana studies the room but her mind wanders thinking about how to improve it, make it feel more welcoming and less austere. Doing this helped avoid the stares of the princes and princesses who were filtering in and finding seats. She got roped into a conversation with a girl from her math class and her father who owned a shop in town. She spotted Chimney walking in with Maddie. Maddie looked a little frazzled but Chimney kept watching her quietly. His expression was twisted with longing and awe. She wondered if he knew how he felt about her yet. She wondered if Eddie had accepted his very real feelings for Buck. She smirked at the memory of Buck kissing her brother very enthusiastically. Feeling her face tingle with awareness she glanced over and spotted Drew watching her. He stood surrounded by his friends on the Tourney team but he was quietly watching her.

"Adriana!" an excited voice squealed nearly tackling her.

She steadied herself, her arms automatically coming around the small body hugging her fiercely. "Melody" she chuckled taking in the small girl.

"I was so scared you left forever and Drew found me. He was so nice he begged me to use my gift to see if any animals saw you or your siblings. Nobody has ever asked me for my help before" Melody said all in a breath.

"You were very brave. Your gift helped Buck and the others to find us. Convince us to come back" Adriana told her smiling down at her. She booped her nose making her giggle.

"Melody there you are. You must be Adriana. I'm Ariel" an woman with beautiful red curls and an elegant gown stepped in front of her. Adriana blinked at the woman who was the subject of so many of Ursula's rants.

"You're Ariel. It's nice to meet you" Adriana managed after a minute.

"Yeah trust me I know how it feels to be in a strange new place. I found the best way is to be proud of yourself and who you are" Ariel told her knowingly.

"Adriana is a really talented fashion designer. Look at her dress Mom" Melody insisted waving to her green and black checkered dress.

"Gorgeous. You have real talent" Ariel said admiringly.

"Thanks" she smiled happily as her sister joined her also in an Adriana-original. This was a light green with a mini skirt that drapes lower in the back. She figured it would be good in case Sophia needed to run.

"We should find our seats" Sophia smiled broadly. Anyone else would be charmed by this but Adriana knew this was her fake smile.

"Excuse us...what happened?" she whispered urgently as they found their seats.

"I failed. I couldn't get the car" Sophia whispered glancing around.

"We will all have to fight our way to after we nab the wand then" Adriana scowled.

"Plan B never works well" Sophia reminds her. It's true all their gang activity on the Isle whenever plan A fails usually meant they were in trouble.

Adriana glanced over to where Chimney was sitting trying to wave at him to get his attention. Her and Sophia flapped their arms desperately but Chimney and Maddie were too busy in their own bubble. Then a trumpet played and all the guests hurried to their chairs and got to their feet. The heavy wood doors swung open to reveal the King and Queen looking decadent but cold. Adriana always thought they looked too perfect that they seemed cold, almost as cold as a glass slipper.

King and Queen walked rigidly up to the front of the room where an elaborate stage stood. Behind them Bobby walked calmly, smiling at everyone. Adriana felt a rush of pride as she spotted her brother walking with Buck. He looked so handsome and regal in her Adriana-original suit. Buck whispered something to him and Eddie giggled, his face shining with amusement. Then he glanced their way and some of the awe and excitement seeped out of him. He straightened up and his posture became stiffer. Buck smirked at him but he also made an attempt to look more serious as he smiled his most posh smile at the crowd. Buck murmurs something to Eddie as he steers him to a seat in the front row. Buck glances over and him and Maddie share a silent look of support, love, but also anger. Adriana knows how much they both wish she could be up there with him.

Buck turns when he faces the raised platform with precision and practice of a well tailored prince. All the guests bow or curtsy before taking their seats again. Buck turned once more taking the two steps onto the platform. Bobby smiled at him fondly before waving his hand. The audience gasped as the Magic Wand appeared under an ornate glass vase. Adriana sat up straighter. She glanced to her right and met the steely gaze of her sister. She glanced to her left and met the stubborn determination on Eddie and Chimney's faces.

Here we go.

~

Eddie:

Eddie watched with a billion emotions rolling around inside him as the King stood in front of Buck. The King looked coldly down at his son and Buck stared up at him. Eddie knows Buck and he can see the fear in his posture but his determination to prove himself steeling his resolve. He feels a rush of pride for his boyfriend and a strong desire to knock over the King and wrap Buck in his arms. He grips the bottom of his jacket in his fist to force himself to focus. The King lifts his crown high in the air before placing it down on Buck's head. Buck exhales softly and Eddie can just barely see the smile pulling his mouth. The King steps back as Bobby lifts the cover off the wand. Eddie inhales sharply as Bobby takes the wand in his hand releasing a stream of sparkles in the air. The crowd oohed but he could swear he heard whispers but he ignored them. He had a task. He was the one who had to grab the wand. He was the only one who could.

Bobby smiled proudly down at Buck as his parents took their place on both sides of the platform. "Do you solemnly swear to govern the peoples of Auradon with justice and mercy as long as you shall reign?" Bobby asked, his tone serious but his voice loud and booming through the church.

Eddie knew this was his window.

He had to step forward and grab it.

He has to do this for his family and himself.

It's time.

"I do solemnly swear" Buck says.

Buck doesn't deserve this.

He has to.

He doesn't have a choice.

"Then it is my honor and my joy to bless our new king" Bobby said placing the wand on Buck's right shoulder and then his left shoulder.

He has to act now!

The wand is shot out of Bobby's hand with an arrow and Jonah catches the wand. "He doesn't deserve to be King!" Jonah yells angrily as sparks jet all around his hand. A jet of magic bursts out of the wand into the sky. Another jet hits a wall sending a flowerpot careening into the crowd.

"Jonah you don't have magic. You can't control it!" Bobby urged frantically as more jets of magic burst out of the wand.

"Back up I can do this! Magic will be mine!" Jonah yelled but Eddie could see the panic on his face as he spun around trying to keep a hold of the wand. Sparks of magic continued to shoot in all directions sending guests screaming.

"Take cover!" Bobby yelled.

Buck moved to intercept him but Eddie couldn't let him. He stepped forward and ripped the wand from Jonah. The wand reacted instantly to his magic, the wand warm to his touch. Eddie feels a sharp rush of magic course through him. "Eddie? Eddie give me the wand" Buck says cautiously.

"Stand back!" Eddie bellows, his voice sounding slightly crazed. All around him everyone froze. Soft gasps and whispers filled the room.

"It's okay" Buck coaxed.

"Buck I said stay back!" Eddie yelled, feeling the magic course through him. Buck paused, his eyes wide. Eddie glanced over as Chimney and his sisters joined him. Buck blinked, his blue eyes becoming more calculating. A small part of him reveled in that. Good Buck should fear him.

"Time to go Eds" Chimney said next to him.

"You really want to do this?" Buck asked in disbelief.

"We don't have a choice" Eddie said furiously.

"Our parents" Eddie growled, the magic within him tingling with an awareness he didn't understand. Like an warning ringing through him.

"Your parents made their choice! Now you have to make yours. What do you want Eddie?" Buck said, his blue eyes blazing as they held his. Eddie glanced away taking in Maddie, the guard holding a resistant Jonah, the King and Queen, and finally Bobby.

He felt the anger and magic rush out of him. "I want to be good" he murmurs softly, a single tear falling onto his cheek. Buck's face slipped into the fondness he knows so well.

"You are. You are the best person I have ever met" Buck tells him, a crooked smile pulling his mouth.

"How do you know that? I've been lying to you since I got here" Eddie demands fiercely.

"Because I'm listening to my heart. I am in love with you Eddie. And I think you are in love with me. You all built a home here. That is not a lie" Buck insisted, his chin raising determinedly.

Eddie felt the last of his resistance snap. "It wasn't a lie. Trying to be evil like our parents that's the lie" Eddie says.

He turns to his left. "Chimney being a thief doesn't make you happy. You are so kind. I have seen you helping the younger students. I have seen you on the Tourney field. You have made such great new friends here and they mean the world to you. I know you don't want to do this or go back there. I know how conflicted you were but I pushed us to do this" Eddie said to Chimney as Chimney glanced over his shoulder at Maddie and then Hen and Karen. Chimney nodded looking like a thousand pounds have been lifted off his shoulders.

Eddie turned to his sisters. "Adriana you are so talented and good. You have always tried to keep us from crossing over that line because you have so much goodness within you. Don't be afraid to trust how you feel. You have real friends here and a future as the best designer in the kingdom" Eddie laughed, the truth bubbling out of him. Adriana smiled at this, her eyes becoming a little misty. She glances into the crowd meeting Drew's gaze.

"Sophia I have gotten to watch as you become so much more than you ever were. You are so smart and don't need anyone to hold you up. You have been so happy learning and figuring out books are for more than just making paper airplanes" Sophia giggled, a few tears slipping onto her cheeks.

"I don't want to take over the world. That doesn't make me happy. I want to go school and make friends. But most of all, I want to be with Buck. Because he makes me really happy" Eddie finishes turning back to Buck smiling broadly at him. Buck beamed.

"So what do you say? I choose to be good" Eddie says holding up his free fist.

"Good sounds pretty good" Chimney smiles bumping his own fist.

"Yeah let's be good" Adriana agrees putting her fist in too.

"As good as I can be" Sophia teases making them all laugh.

Buck steps forward and wraps them all in a broad hug, his body warm against Eddie. Then Maddie is joining them and Karen and Hen. Then Drew and Danny and Melody and the rest of the Tourney team. Bobby steps froward beckoning Eddie to the side with an warm smile and a raised eyebrow. Eddie laughs happily moving to hand the wand over. Bobby's fingertips are just grazing the wand.

For the second time that night, the wand disappears from Bobby's hand.

Chapter Text

Eddie:

A loud bang startles everyone. Chimney pulls Maddie behind her as Eddie steps in front of Buck. His skin is tingling again with apprehension. "Everyone get back!" Adriana warns as one of the windows is blasted in broken glass shattering to the floor as swirls of bright green magic curl and slide through the room before crashing down right in the middle of dais. The smoke billows up in a column before revealing

"Mom!" Eddie gasps in surprise and fear.

"I'm back!" Maleficent says haughtily as her gaze travels from where each of her children stand. From Chimney standing to the side trying to nudge Maddie behind him, Adriana where she stands one hand in front of Melody and the other clasping Drew's tightly, Danny peering over Sophia's shoulder and finally dragging over to him. He feels the heat of her scorn as she examines his tailored suit down to the gold royal ring on his hand which is resting protectively in front of Buck. Finally her gaze flits down to Eddie's other hand which still clasps the magic wand.

"Cute. Isn't everyone so cozy?" she purrs coldly again glaring at each of her children.

"Go away Mother. You don't belong here" Eddie yells angrily.

"Eddie haven't I taught you anything? There is no belonging just conquering. Now son give me the wand!" his mother hissed angrily.

Eddie holds her gaze seeing the wickedness, the hatred, the lifelong grudge she has held against these people. Eddie realizes his choice was always going to be simple. He steps forward towards his mother and her smile widens. "Eddie?" Buck asks shocked behind him.

"That's my boy" his mother smiles gleefully. He takes one more step towards her before whipping his arm to the side throwing the wand with all his might.

"Eddie!" his mother shrieked as Bobby caught the wand yellow sparks shooting from the wand.

Bobby smiled proudly at him. "Thank you Eddie. Now Maleficient" he begin with a warning pointing the wand at her.

"No" his mother raised her scepter in the air sending green sparks in the air. Eddie felt the rush of magic as his mother's magic burst out from her. Eddie looked around realizing his mother had frozen every person in the room except for him and his siblings. He glanced behind him to see Buck's blue eyes frozen is place where they rest on Bobby, a small smirk forming on his face. Eddie looks away before he can linger any longer. Sophia steps closer to him on his left. Chimney joins him on his right. Adriana struggles to slip her hand free from Drew's frozen grasp but she does as their mother lets out a loud cruel laugh.

"I'll be taking that now" she laughed again snatching the wand from Bobby's frozen hand.

Then she turned back to her children who now stood in a line facing her. "I see. We find Auradon to be special filled with princes for all of you" she says sneering at his sisters and then at him.

"Speaking of you won't be needing this" his mother smirked waving the wand and his hand shot up as Buck's ring, his ring, flew through the air before sliding onto the wand. Eddie gasped softly, the sharp sting of loss taking him by surprise. He just got the ring not even an hour ago yet he had loved the warm weight of it against his skin. The feeling of belonging and safety it gave him.

"You don't need to do this Mom. We can find another way!" Adriana pleaded.

"Like wait for you lot to make the right choices. I thought this family meant more to you than some frivolous friends but clearly I was wrong to have trusted you all. Haven't I taught you that love is useless. That family trumps everything" his mother scowled.

"You're wrong" Eddie said fury building inside him.

"Excuse me?" his mother replied, her inky black eyebrows nearly disappearing into her hair.

"Love isn't useless. It's actually really amazing. There's love I feel for my siblings, for the friends we have made here. And then there's true love which...is the most amazing magic I have ever felt. I knew it was true love's kiss from the first time I kissed him" Eddie laughed remembering the sting of magic that had interrupted them.

"Ugh please Edmundo you are acting like a foolish schoolgirl. You clearly weren't strong enough for the temptations of this land but once we take over you will see the world for how it should be" his mother said determinedly.

"No he's not Mom. Eddie is the strongest person I know. He's right. Love is stronger than I ever knew. We have seen the world for how it should be. The way we live on the Isle is wrong but people don't have a choice. The world isn't better by spreading wickedness" Adriana added.

"The world is actually pretty amazing. There are so many creatures, languages, and subjects to learn about" Sophia laughs sounding a littler hysterical.

"And are friends aren't frivolous. They are brave, strong, and kinder than we ever deserved. Family is more than blood" Chimney finished glancing back at Maddie before turning back to their mother who was glaring at each one of them.

"Enough! Clearly you all need a lesson in being the most powerful in the land. If you want listen to me then I'll have to force you" their mother grit out.

"By the power of four I command the wand to my hand" he shouts before she can cast a spell stretching out a hand towards the wand.

His siblings all raise their hands as the wand shakes violently in his mother's hand. "Ungrateful" his mother hisses trying to tighten her hold on the wand. The wand flies out of her grasp and back into his palm sending that rush of magic coursing through his body once more.

"You will all regret this!" his mother shouts furiously as swirls of dark magic spin around her. They spin around her hiding her body until with an odd shriek the clouds dissipate revealing an huge dragon in their wake.

"I didn't know she could still do that!" Chimney gasped.

She turned her head in his direction and Chimney just managed to dive over a banquet table before she sent a blast of hot scorching fire at him. "Hey over here. Wanna play fetch?" Sophia called. She had transformed three chairs into massive black dogs who ran towards her. His mother swung a wing at them sending the three dogs crashing into a far wall. The enchantment broke and three broken chairs fell to the floor. With a whip of her tail, Sophia crashed to the ground.

"Hey Mother I know you hate when I play with my food!" Adriana called enchanting the food on the far table to fly across the room. Their mother swung both wings up shielding herself from the onslaught but her wings were now covered in a myriad of foods. She howled angrily and blew a column of flames right at Adriana who ducked just in time.

Using the wand Eddie shot a burning hot line of magic at his mother who howled in pain as a red blister appeared on her large horn. Before he could spot it his mother's wing swung out sending him sprawling to the floor the wand flying out of his hand to come rest at Chimney's feet.

"Everyone come here and repeat after me!" Eddie commanded the spell for the power of love coming back to him. He had scoffed when he read it but now by altering one line he thought it might make it stronger.

"The strength of evil is good as none  when it stands before four hearts as one" Eddie yells as his green magic shoots from his hands to wrap around their mother. It's too loose though and is still able to flap her wings.

"The strength of evil is good as none  when it stands before four hearts as one" Adriana repeats quickly, a rope of soft purple wrapping tighter around their mother. Eddie and Adriana struggle to maintain a hold on their magic.

"Now guys!" Eddie yells.

"The strength of evil is good as none  when it stands before four hearts as one" Sophia chants her own dark purple magic joining them. Their mother struggles to bat her wings and sways in the air howling.

"Chimney the wand! You can do this!" Eddie calls.

"The strength of evil is good as none  when it stands before four hearts as one" Chimney yells pointing the wand and a strand of golden yellow magic explodes out hitting their mother directly in the chest. An explosion blasts them all off their feet.

"Did we just?" Sophia asked terrified.

"No" Bobby says startling them all as the people all around the room unfreeze. Chimney awkwardly handed over the Magic Wand.

Buck rushes to his side, his eyes roving over him terrified.

"I'm fine Buck really" Eddie assured him as everyone started to gather around them. Buck hugged him tightly exhaling sharply. Bobby clapped him on the shoulder and placed his ring in Buck's palm.

"What happened?" Adriana asked confused as Melody and Drew hugged her.

"There you are! Here's your mother. She shrunk to the love in her heart" Bobby told them holding a squirming purple lizard in his palm.

"I thought my mother was cold blooded" Buck mumbled.

Eddie snorted leaning into Buck who smiled shyly at him before taking his left hand and sliding the ring back onto his finger. He kissed Eddie's hand before roping an arm around his shoulders. Eddie sighed into the embrace.

"Bobby you must go strengthen the barrier. If Maleficent got through others could be on their way too" Buck's father says walking down the dais, shattering the moment.

"He's right. I will leave her in your charge" Bobby said waving his wand once and Maleficent disappeared and reappeared in a glass tank. He handed the tank over to Adriana

"As for the rest of us, we have a party to get to. Let's go!" Maddie hollered happily.

~

Two Weeks Later

Adriana:

"Wow that dress is looking great but maybe bring the hemlines down a little bit more here and here" Adriana suggests fixing the design before smiling kindly at Becca.

"Thanks Adri" Becca grinned before glancing behind her her smiling widening. "Ooh your boyfriend's here" she teased.

Adriana spun around, something warm and giddy filling her chest. "Hey Drew" she said happily crossing the room to her boyfriend. She roped her arms around his neck kissing him deeply. At the coronation dance, her and Drew had spent the night catching up. She explained everything to him about her parents, their plan, and how they had to spell Buck. He told her about his conversations with his family and how the realized maybe her family wasn't the only one holding a grudge. His parents even came over and invited her to family dinner. By the end of the night Drew walked her home and asked her to be his girlfriend. She had happily agreed.

"Gross" another one of her student's complained.

Adriana giggled as she pulled away. "Keep working. I'll be checking all your designs in a minute" Adriana warns to the room at large.

"How's your class going?" Drew asked smiling down at her. After Buck's coronation he had worked with Bobby to create a whole series of new classes for students: Magic for Beginners, Talking to Animals 101, and the Art of Dress Design. Rapunzel is technically the teacher but Adriana leads the class most days. She has learned she loves teaching and helping others build a love for fashion. She is even going to start a club for junior fashion designers. They design silly designs sometimes but the club is so much fun for her.

"I'm loving it. Everyone's designs are really coming along!" she told him excitedly.

"I'm proud of you. I won't take up your time but Mom called and wanted me to invite you to dinner tonight" Drew said happily.

"Now we can't. Remember Ariel invited us to her castle to have dinner with her husband and Melody" Adriana reminded him.

"That's right. Buck and Eddie are going to join us. Buck wants Ariel to become the coach of the new swim team" Drew recalled.

"Ooh she'll love that" Adriana said excitedly.

"Adri!" one of her students called.

"Okay you have to go. I'll swing by later" Drew murmured kissing her sweetly.

"Yup love you" Adriana said kissing him once more before stepping back before she can be tempted to kiss him deeper.

~

Sophia:

"Alright I got chips" Sophia said cheerily as she hopped off her ATV. Buck had gotten each of their group an ATV. Well he refused to buy Eddie one insisting he had to share with him. Eddie didn't seem to mind.

"We made cookies" Chimney said smiling shyly at Maddie. Maddie blushed softly. They had been dating since coronation. In her opinion they were taking it horribly slowly but Chimney didn't seem to mind.

"We're here. Don't hold it against us. We made a pizza" Buck called behind her walking toward them holding a pizza box in one hand and Eddie's hand in the other.

Sophia snorted at their appearance. "Cooking get a little messy" she teased noticing the messiness of Buck's curls and the flour lingering on Eddie's cheek. There was also a small welt on Eddie's neck.

Both boys blushed but shared cocky smirks. "Cooking can be very romantic" Buck teased lightly hip-checking Eddie.

"Yeah we get it. Come on lovebirds we got a meeting to start" Hen teased also holding Karen's hand, followed behind by Adriana.

"Like you're one to talk" Eddie snorted sitting down in their new spot. They had decided to make it official and added a canopy and blankets and pillows. Buck had decided after becoming King he didn't want to do it alone. He made Hen, Karen, Maddie, Adriana, Sophia, Chimney , and Eddie all members of the Royal Court. They were made official advisers and ambassadors for the Isle. They had jointly decided that once a month they would meet to make decisions for the kingdom. Maddie was the one who said every court needs a chambers.

"All right we all gathered here for the first official meeting of the Royal Court. I am self-appointed secretary" Maddie said calmly pulling out a notebook and pencil from her backpack.

"Well I want to thank you all...for agreeing to be a part of this. We aren't just friends we are family" Buck said earnestly. Eddie looked over at him with such fondness and love pouring out of him, it was embarrassing.

"Hold on this calls for a toast" Karen insisted handing everyone a plastic cup and Hen trailing behind her pouring white wine in each person's cup.

"Here's to the family we choose. That we will fight for everyday" Chimney blurts out. Everyone stills for a minute as they consider his words.

"To family" Eddie agreed holding up his cup. They all clink and take a sip of the sweet wine.

"Well so far the changes Buck has already made have been very popular. I am loving helping teach the fashion classes and my junior fashion club already has 10 kids signed up" Adriana tells them smiling broadly.

"That's amazing sis!" Sophia said happily.

"Plus we have kids talking about the new classes and I actually spoke to a bunch of them about other courses they would like. I have a meeting with Bobby next week. You also have to be there" Karen told them before giving Buck a sarcastic smile.

"That's incredible Karen. I can't wait!" Buck said smiling broadly.

"If we are sharing wins, my judgmental science professor, Mr. Gerard, told me he's going to retire at the end of the year so he's bringing in an Adjunct Professor who he is letting me hire. Me and Danny have been talking about creating a program for academic honors to encourage students who like learning. We will be hosting school events like science fairs, spelling bees, and maybe even academic competitions. I'm learning I love being challenged" Sophia brags feeling proud of herself and the life she is building.

"Soph that's great. I'm so proud of you" Eddie gushed fondly.

"Slow down these are all fantastic achievements that I need to write everything down" Maddie smiled broadly her hand shaking slightly as she raced to get everything down.

"Well Sophia we are all proud. You have come far from the flirty punk you once were" Chimney teased winking at her teasingly.

"How long has it been since you stole anything?" Adriana asked with a raised eyebrow. Chimney blushed biting his lip uncertainly. Maddie nodded at him warmly and he exhaled.

"Bobby asked me to start training the palace guards. How to navigate a battlefield without tripping alarms. He is having me practice robbing a room to see which guards catch me. I don't know why Bobby thinks I'm the best person to train the guards" Chimney continues blushing brightly.

"Because you are the best man for the job" Hen tells him honestly and Chimney ducks his head looking pleased.

"Okay any more news?" Maddie asks stretching out her fingers tiredly.

"Yes. I..." Buck breaks off looking over at Eddie before inhaling. "I want all of your help to start breaking down the divide between us and the Isle. Eddie's been telling me a little about what life is like over there and it shouldn't be. I want to make monthly supply shipments. Not just fresh food but art supplies, school supplies, fashion supplies, musical instruments, and sports equipment. I want to travel over to the Isle and talk to some of the kids there. Rebuild the school. Make life better for everyone over there as best as I...as best as we can. Eventually when the time feels right, I want to bring down the barrier. For good" Buck announces to the shocked silence.

"Wow. Buck I love that and I am going to help you in every way I can but...the Isle can be dangerous. It's not just our parents who were looking for revenge and retribution" Eddie warns, his eyes worried.

"Exactly. Maybe we start giving everyone a choice on how they want to live. Yes I expect trouble but I have four seasoned troublemakers to help me navigate" Buck smiled at each of them.

"Hey we aren't innocent. We are in Buck. I love this idea. Everyone deserves to experience life like this. I want to help others like you all. I mean clearly my influence was the selling point" Hen smiled smugly.

"She's right Buck. I'm in too. Maybe we can even make the Isle play us in Tourney or compete against us in school competitions" Karen suggests.

"That's a great idea. So many kids on the Isle have never really gotten a chance to enjoy school or even go to it for safety reasons. I want to help kids on the Isle learn to love learning too. Count me in Buck!" Sophia smiled.

"There are so many artsy kids in the Isle. I bet an youth center that teaches different art skills would be really beneficial. I'm in too Buckaroo" Adriana smiled happily.

"You know I'm in. I'm looking forward to helping build something" Chimney agrees.

Everyone glances at Maddie who's silent. "You don't want to help?" Buck asks surprised, and a little hurt.

"I...I think I want to become Headmaster of the Isle Academy. I can help build the school up from the ground. I need to find my own place in the world and not just following in your shadow Buck. I have been realizing lately that I want more from life than what I have let myself. I could be really good at it" Maddie says in a rush, her gaze fixed to Buck only glancing once to Chimney.

"You will do amazing Mads I know it. I'm going to miss sharing a room with you but...you're right. You deserve to be so much more than just my handler" Buck says crossing to her and pulling her into a hug.

"Don't leave us out" Chimney chides as Buck opens his arm more. They all laugh and jostle each other as they rush forwards looping their arms around each other.

Eddie:

Eddie looked around at the life he had built. All the friends he has made, the siblings he loves, and the man he plans to marry someday. It wasn't the life he had been expected to lead but it was a life he could be proud of. As he met Buck's blue eyes across the circle he realized once again how happy he was to have found a place where he can belong. He has a family he can rely on to have his back. He never needed a legacy it turns out. He just needed his own journey.

The stories have it wrong it turns out.

There's no such thing as happy endings.

Because every day has the possibility for a happy beginning.

He's going to enjoy every one of them.

With his family by his side.
