Chapter Text

I’ll always remember the Garden. The fresh air, the birds chirping, the still calmness of the lake. The laughing of the two humans as my brother told an awful pun with a huge grin. At the time I rolled my eyes, a fond smile gracing my face as I walked behind the three of them. I wish I could bring back those smiles, those laughs. They’re long dead and gone, in a way none of the beings in this story ever truly could be. It is our blessing, our curse. This is where our story truly begins, despite the timeless reach of my brother’s and my lives before. The time of No Purpose for me, was simpler for everyone. I would give up my Purpose forever if it meant seeing my brother’s joy again. If only that was how Creation worked…

“Raniel! Wake up!”

A male voice, stern in its command, called through the door into the bedroom. It was a quite large room, much to the annoyance of its occupant. Decorated with blue, white, and silver, it was beautiful. However, the angel currently passed out in the king sized bed would say it felt stifling. There was no sense of homeliness, no comfort despite the bed’s downy softness. Speaking of the angel, Raniel, he let out a tired groan, calling out to the voice behind the door.

“I’m up… gimme a minute, Michael.”

The voice chuckled dryly, a sound half amused and half annoyed.

“Hurry, we have training today.”

Raniel simply groaned again, but finally shoved aside the blue comforter and swung his legs over the side of the bed to get up. Large blue and white wings stretched high above his head as he stood up and walked over to his large wardrobe. His usually slicked back, neat brown hair was wild from sleep, and his dark blue silk pajamas were wrinkled.

“Another day…”

He muttered to himself as he got dressed in his usual clothing, a blue shirt with brown pants and a long white cloak. He fixed his hair and brushed his teeth in the connecting bathroom, then slipped on his high black boots. On his way out the door, he suddenly stopped, going back to his bedside nightstand. He grabbed the silver necklace with the blue pendant and clasped it around his neck, then grabbed his bow and quiver and stepped out the door.

“Time to train some exorcists.”

“DAD! WHY IS THERE A PANCAKE ON THE CEILING?”

Charlie Morningstar yelled from the kitchen. Everyone in the hotel looked up, eyes locking on Lucifer. He had the decency to at least look sheepish as he stood to go to his daughter. She was staring up at the pancake, which was in fact firmly stuck to the ceiling.

“Heh… trick flip? Sorry sweetie…”

Charlie sighed, but soon enough a small smile had formed.

“It’s okay Dad, just make sure it gets cleaned up.”

He nodded seriously, and with a snap of his fingers, the pancake disappeared into thin air. The young woman nodded in approval before heading out of the kitchen. The other members of the hotel, Vaggie, Angel Dust, Alastor, Niffty, and Husk, were sitting around hiding snickers behind their hands. They of course stopped when Charlie came in, and a door upstairs creaked open then shut. Lucifer at this point had also entered the room with a shit eating grin on his face.

“Good morning sleepyhead.”

Adam yawned, stretching his arms and wings as he came downstairs. He had joined the hotel shortly after being reborn as a sinner following the battle a year ago. Over time, the first man had learned to be more like his old self from the Garden of Eden, letting his guard down around the other hotel members. He had even gotten close to Lucifer, to the point they had started dating about five months prior. In this moment, he scowled at the fallen angel, but leaned down to give him a kiss on the cheek anyway.

“Morning.”

Lucifer beamed, clinging to Adam’s middle like a baby koala. In the back of the room from his chair, Alastor made a quick gagging noise. Of course he quickly pretended nothing had happened when Lucifer shot him a glare, going back to sipping coffee from his favorite mug. Everything was normal… for now.
