Work Text:
The blonde trudged through crimson, auburn and gold leaves. Kicking them all aside and found his favorite rock buried beneath it all.
Getting comfortable with his book. “Hey, Hev. I’m back.”
It’d been awhile since they’d sat together like this, amongst the leaves and in the wind. Fall was too short, in Dee’s eyes.
It was the last time they’d really been close. October. He remembered the last time they’d been here. He cupped his face and he watched him smile and laugh, his eyes crinkling the way they always did.
“You’re ridiculous..” He’d say, kissing his face, making Heavy squirm and push him away, whining about how gross the kisses were, even though he secretly enjoyed them—
“Let me pick!” Heavy had whined, trying to get his hands on Dee’s phone. They always seemed to disagree on music, “Too pop.”
“Not hard enough.”
They had clear preferences, but that’s what made sharing music so enjoyable—because there would be those rare moments where they discovered a song they both loved and bonded over—
“One more time! I wanna hear it again!”
“Heavy-” He’d laugh. “We listened to that two times..”
“Third times the charm??”
He really wished he’d given in.
Let him hear the song again.
“Another time..” He whispered the words. The ones he regretted so much.
Why would Heavy want to see him now? with the way things went…?
“…Look—Heavy..I..” He looked at him and sighed. “I didn’t ignore you, alright..? Well. I didn’t mean to..I love you, you know??” Did he??
“I’m just confused I guess, lost without you..”
The blonde sighed shakily. Trying to keep his stray curl out of the way.
“..I shouldn’t have said I didn’t need you..okay? I do..I’ll always need you..”
He sighed shakily, leaning against him. “Please talk to me..let me hear your voice again..”
Dee ignored everyone who watched him. Not caring how they felt about his desperation to hear his brother.
“Huh..” A girl said, nudging her sister. “Weren’t there two of them..? Lil redhead, always following him around..?”
“Yeah, you didn’t know? His brother passed away ages ago. He comes here everyday just to talk to him..”
“Oh…poor guy..” The girl frowned.
“He’s convinced he’s still alive, the grief just hasn’t set in I guess..” The girls walked away together. The other rushed to keep up.
Heavy was always trying to walk with large strides to match him back then. Dee always found it cute.
He’d always been desperate to please his older brother—
If only Dee could have done the same.
Wait. Dee sat up, glancing at his brother and quickly scrolled through his illegally downloaded songs, finally finding the one he needed.
“One more time.” Dee said softly. Leaning against his tombstone again.
“Just for you.”
