Chapter Text
So yeah, I'm making this book because I like to write and sometimes I really need to write about this turtles.
I am more than willing to accept your requests!! Although I will leave some things that I will NOT write (even if one of them does not need to be said)
• T-Cest
• NSFW
• R@pe (Even if is a past experience)
It can be fluff or angst, hurt/comfort or just angst without a good ending, you decided.
This book I plane it with my main headcanon (Donnie and Mikey are twins for some iteration) but if you don't like it, you can tell me.
A have a one shot to publish now!! So that's what I'm gonna do for ths book!
The tags will be upgraded if there's the case.
And about the ships, I think I can, but I'll decided, so it stays as a doubt. If I can, I'll let you know I'll be writing it!
Chapter 2: 2007: Not the same, but it's okay for me
Notes:
A shortly one shot to start this madness!! (I don't what I meant with this)
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Chapter Text
"What did you expect?" Donnie asked, his voice didn't break but it didn't seem stable either, there was something bothering him, something that only appeared when Leo returned.
Mikey just looked at him, waiting for what Donnie might add. Anything, a shake of the head and a mild “forget it” response and then leaving. Or a sigh, anything.
Instead, he received a patient look. A calm look waiting for Mikey to give his answer. The thing is, the turtle knew what his twin meant.
"I don't know." What could he expect? The problems didn't go away, not even if someone's absence suddenly returned, not even when things looked...stable. Not better, just stable.
He doesn't know what he expected. That Leo would return and his family would be the same again? But also, did he really want them to be the same again?
Reliving the times when he was locked up in Donnie's laboratory just because of a small disagreement between his brothers, spending days with his brothers treating each other like a plague and leaving them aside.
Or feeling again that Splinter, his own father, only seems to increase the tension between Raph and Leo.
"I also like things to be stable." Donatello smiled, underneath those heavy bags under his eyes, Mikey could see that he was being sincere, he could relate. "Raph and Leo are more bearable, don't you think?"
"They totally are" And a laugh escaped his lips. It was true, his older brothers no longer seemed in constant rivalry. After Leo's kidnapping, even the fight before that. It seemed to calm them down, stop them and try to fix their rivalry.
They weren't like him and Donnie, but there certainly wasn't as much tension anymore.
"It's funny, it's like they're trying to imitate us." Mikey is sure his twin noticed it too.
When they came home after the whole monster thing. Mikey and Donnie had dinner together, out of habit and because they liked each other's company.
Then Raph and Leo followed.
And he has to say, it was a lazy attempt at not trying to completely mimic the interaction between him and Don at dinner.
"Why do you think we are better than them?"
"Ding, ding, you get a point for that!"
He really liked that things aren't like before, but even so.
"Do you think they'll ever stop trying to do what we did and have the four of them have dinner for once?" And Mikey knows from Donnie's face that he was hesitating.
And a doubting Donatello means something.
"Yeah, maybe. For the way things are..." The intelligent turtle's face frowned, counting the possibilities. "It's more likely to happen."
It was nice to hear.
" I hope so." With a grunt, Michelangelo stood up from the couch and stretched his arms, complaining a little about the ensuing back pain. "Yep, just a young adult but the shell will kill me"
"I can relate," Donatello imitated him, hunching his shell to ease the pain.
"Well, enough talk, let's go to dinner, dude!"
Notes:
To be honest, I LOVE the 2007 movie especially Mikey and Don, and I have read a lot of angst about them (I like it tho-) but, y'know a guy sometimes need some fluffy interaction about these two.
Chapter 3: ROTTMNT:Problem and solution??
Summary:
Turtle4eva: This is a request/idea I am really liking all the angst with Michelangelo since he doesn’t have much story on his problems in shows and stuff and I was wondering if you can do a angst of Michelangelo from the Rise series of him having a really bad and painful time with his scars from opening the portal and maybe some nightmares and then his brothers go to comfort him in the end. Also I love this B-team story! Your a really good writer!
I finally managed to write your idea!!! And awww you're so sweet, thanks!! I hope this is what you expected at least! Hehe 😅

Chapter Text
It started with a dull pain, that pain that is only a nuisance throughout the day but never bothers you too much, bearable at best.
That's how it was during the weeks he was unconscious after opening the portal, when he woke up, his arms didn't hurt, it seemed like his arms weren't even there.
They didn't hurt, until the painkillers ran out. His arms burned and his muscles contracted, his arms shook with each new cramp, his scars even deteriorated during the first episode of pain Mikey had.
The rest, it was just...terrible, he learned that his arms couldn't do much, they would start to hurt if he used too much force or if he just moved them.
Mikey's arms were covered in bandages now, the pain was superficial, the scars still needing to heal.
And Mikey was tired.
He shouldn't be
He was supposedly unconscious for days!
But even so, he feels tired, his arms ached dully as fatigue overwhelmed him. And Mikey was maybe tired of being so dramatic about it with his arms.
Okay, no, he knew he needed help with that, Leo had even been getting better before him and Raph didn't seem that physically hurt when he first woke up.
And Donnie, well, it's hard to know if the only problem is lack of sleep.
It's just that, he was tired of bothering, he wanted to move on to the next page.
The chapter where he recovers on his own with his willpower or something like that. Stupid but that's how he wants it to happen.
...
Mikey was used to bad nights.
The nights when the dull pain increased and became a real torture.
Mikey never mentioned it.
Look, he already received too much help from his brothers with his arms during the day. It's only fair that he wants to take care of his own torture alone during the night.
It was enough that his brothers kept checking his arms and helping him when his joints felt weak. Or as he said, felt too tired to even move them.
What they don't know is about the constant pain.
And maybe he should tell them...he's supposed to be recovering and still has episodes of torturous pain that course through every artery and muscle in his own joints.
No.
He would take care of it. By himself, he is already a big boy.
The yellow melted into his fingers along the cracks that traveled painfully across his nerves.
It hurts.
But Mikey continued, tears stinging his eyes and determination shining on his face.
Leo was still there with that monster.
Mikey NEEDS to get him out of there.
And he will do it.
Two hands rested on his shoulders.
"Mikey, whatever you're doing, don't stop!" The larger hand gripped his shoulder carefully, offering him stability that he didn't seem to realize he was losing until his feet nearly slipped.
Donnie didn't say anything, but he could feel a light squeeze on another shoulder. Support, his genius brother was supporting him.
Raph and Donnie were counting on him.
The cracks in the air expanded further along with those in his arms. The pain became dull from there.
A portal, He. was opening. fucking. portal.
A bright light invaded his vision and...there he was.
Leo.
He was alive!
Oh the joy he felt when he saw his brother extending his arm with a smile.
"Took your time" and Mikey regrets having taken so long, but Leo's smile made him feel happy, he had done it!
Leo would be fine after all!
Donnie and Raph were quick to let go of his shoulder as Leo got closer to the portal. It's okay, Mikey could handle the growing dull pain.
But then something pushed him.
Something hit him in the chest.
The portal didn't close but Mikey found himself crashing into the nearest wall in the room.
His eyes widened in panic as he looked around, staring at the bright light among the darkness of a near-invasion.
The Krang.
No
Claws gripped tightly on the edges of the portal.
Leo had not managed to get out.
Michelangelo watched his two remaining brothers walk away from the portal.
His own body was beginning to hurt thanks to the impact, but HE needs to move, now.
He tried to get up, but the moment he leaned on his arms, he felt pain, too much.
His body fell again in an instant.
No, he couldn't stay there, he had to do something!
Before-
A claw shot through the hole in the air, grabbing the soft shell with horrifying ease and speed.
His brother screamed before being thrown to the side.
"DON-"
Raph turned around, almost running from where he was to where the genius turtle was thrown. But he couldn't take another step when a figure walked through the portal.
It wasn't Leo. There was no Leo there.
Just the Krang.
Rising up behind his brother in red with that nasty metal claw ready to strike.
Nonononono
He tried to get up once more, but the mere movement increased the pain in his arms.
Why did they hurt so much!?
He needed to help his brother, why the fuck couldn't he use his arms now!?
His legs didn't even respond.
he should at least be able to see where Donnie was! But his body didn't respond, tears slid down his face when he tried and his body just seemed to not want to obey.
Mikey has to-
Raph was hit in the side, cruelly being thrown away with ease as the Krang made his way through the rubble.
"I have to thank you for that, turtle." The Krang smiled at him, getting closer and closer to where his body decided to fall.
His body seemed to react at that very moment, sitting up and beginning to crawl backwards, the pain still present in his arm, but with enough adrenaline to move, until his shell hit the wall once again.
A hiss of pain escaped his lips, no doubt his shell was injured by the first strike.
"But I'm afraid I can't leave you alive, not with that ability you have."
THUMP THUMP
Mikey totally disliked the heavy noise the Krang made walking around in his stupid suit.
In the blink of an eye. The Krang stood in front of him, grinning with those sharp, disgusting teeth of his.
A claw rose above its head.
"Nothing personal kid."
And then that thing hit him.
...
The box turtle screamed.
More from the fear he felt than from the pain that flooded his arms once again.
He tried to take a deep breath and calm down, but he just couldn't. He could feel his skin cold thanks to the panic and fear that still settled in his bones.
He gripped his arms tightly as the episode escalated, the pain was too much and he still couldn't breathe properly.
He even started to sob, he couldn't stifle his sobs with his hands, because his arms hurt, too much to even move.
The shake spread throughout his body, causing the pain to become even more acute in his arms.
Mikey wanted to just fall unconscious, he didn't want to feel the pain in his arms again, he hates feeling pain every night.
He hates crying over a stupid nightmare too.
The door opened.
"Angelo?" The box turtle's body jumped, being caught off guard by the voice at the door. "Mikey! Mikey, what's wrong?"
Mikey didn't respond, he just closed his eyes as the muscles in his arms contracted more and more with a strength he never expected to be able to have.
"Raph, Donnie, something's wrong with Mikey!"
More footsteps were heard.
And a couple of them echoed loudly in his room.
Mikey tensed at that.
"Mike?" The pair of giant steps approached, Mikey could feel the big figure next to him but he refused to open his eyes. "Hey, hey, it's me, Raph" and the turtle knew it, he just didn't want to face his brothers now.
"Mikey, I need you to breathe." Leo again.
With a groan, Mikey tried.
He took a deep breath but failed in an instant, starting to cough a little.
"Okay, not like that. Look, like this" His brother in blue tried to take his arm, something they had done before. Leo took his hand and let it rest on his chest to feel his breathing. And it always worked.
But this time, when Leo grabbed his arm, it hurt.
Worse than before.
"AHHH" and although it hurt, the turtle decided that he should hide his arms between his body and never move them again.
"Angelo. Your arms... Michelangelo, you're supposed to tell me about this!"
And Mikey could see them now, his eyes widening when Donnie called out to him.
The faces of his three older brothers greeted him. Mikey focused on Don's frowning face, he knew that face, even under the tears, he could recognize it.
He's worried.
"It hurts," his breathing didn't help when he spoke, it took time and even then, the word came out between quick breaths.
His brothers looked at him once more before looking at each other.
"Okay, Don, is there anything we can do?"
"As a part-time doctor- I think...we can massage them? His muscles look tense, Raph, and his breathing is still unstable."
"Okay... then come on, I'll help you find some cream for the massage, Leo, ya think you can handle it?"
"Of course, hermano!" The slider smiled, still sitting next to Mikey with his crutches on the floor.
"Okay, we'll be right back, we'll be quick!"
As Mikey's brothers left the room, Leo turned his gaze once more to his little brother.
"Hey, I know you probably don't want to talk about it anytime soon." a soft look was given to him. "But, you need to calm down, inhale" Leo instructed and the youngest tried to follow him.
He shakily inhaled and held it for a few seconds. "Exhale" and with Leo's command, Mikey let the air out.
For a few minutes it was like this, until Mikey was finally able to breathe properly.
"There" Leo's laughter was the only noise in his room from then on. "The others will be back soon"
And no doubt it was, or maybe Leo was magical or something, because his older brothers appeared in an instant.
"Hey Big guy" Raph smiled when he got himself in the room, his hands grabbing the little tube of cream that he had used before for the stupid cramps that the big snapper turtle had a long time ago.
"Hey" Mikey smiled back with his arms still against his chest and a visible wince of pain.
"Com're Big guy" It was the box turtle who was supposed to approach, but Raph took that step, carefully taking Mikey's arms, they still hurt, but...big brothers always make him feel better after everything, he will allow it even if it hurts. "It's okay, you can tell me when it hurts and I'll leave ya."
"I'm fine" His gaze shifted as his brothers looked at him, a look that showed they didn't believe him at all.
"Well, while Raph does his part of the work." The slider turned his gaze to the soft-shelled turtle. "Hey Don-tron, a genius never misses anything, huh?" The comment made the turtle tense up and give him an offended look.
"Hey, in my defense, try to deal with everything while two are in bed and the other isn't cooperating with his eye check," Don added, coughing into his fist before speaking again. "Although...we should have been aware of the nerve damage."
"Nerve damage?" As Raph massaged his hands, Mikey stopped his gaze on the family's twins, curious and no doubt feeling better now that his arms were being gently treated.
"Yes, weakness and pain are the most abundant symptoms in any case." As the family doctor, Leo took the place of explanation, offering more obvious details. "Which brings us to our next point. Mikey, how long?"
"Eh?"
"You know what I'm talking about"
Mikey's reddish eyes strayed for a moment, avoiding what he knew and what he didn't really want to share, they would be mad at him. Mainly because he had been hiding it mostly at night and little by little, during the rest of the days.
"Angelo, we need to know."
"Donnie is right, Mikey, we want to help you"
And Raph's words stuck in his mind for a few seconds. 'We want to help you.' Mikey feels terrible now.
The turtle sighed, giving up once and for all. "Since the first time I woke up."
"WHAT!?"
"Leo, calm down-"
"Raph, he's been like this since he first woke up! It's normal for me to react like this!"
"While you're right, dear brother, it was not necessary to shout"
"Shut up Don."
As the conversation continued. The pain had disappeared a long time ago, but his arms were still outstretched towards Raph, nestled between his plastron, but they no longer hurt. They returned to the same almost non-existent dull pain.
He feels better.
Mikey knows it's not a permanent solution, but he feels better, that's all that matters to him.
"Mikey, I promise I'll find a solution."
"Oh-" Mikey didn't expect that to be yelled at him in front of him. "He, thanks then Dee."
It was then that he finally accepted that maybe, maybe, not talking about the pain in his arms with his brothers was always a bad idea.
Notes:
I have to say that, yeah as I mentioned before in other works- English is not my first language- sorry if there any grammatical error beyond the abbreviations-
Hope ya like it @Turtle4eva !!
Chapter 4: 2012(my au): Simple thing (Leo)
Summary:
This is part of "Always there but not there"
I wanted to write something about before writing more things about this au, I kinda like it so much LOL
Notes:
Note: Author sucks at English sometimes (Not to say almost always)
Chapter Text
There's a thing about being the oldest.
It means to be the pillar of the youngest, the one who has always had to see to the little ones that only seems to be in danger (especially if your family is like hers).
The one who has to take care of himself or just take care of the others, 'cause if you do something and let them behind, there's always a problem seeking in the darkest corners, even if that only means your father telling you that you should've watched what your brothers were doing.
But hey, that's part of the job.
Leo understands that. Besides, she loves her little brothers, she couldn't think of a life without them, without the problems they have made or the things that made all of them laugh!
And the other thing about being the oldest is.
The oldest die first.
That's something all of them had known since they got that old tv.
The oldest die first.
And the youngest die last.
That's how it is and that's how it would happen.
And for them, Mikey's the youngest.
Yeah, Raph could be younger than her, but he's one of the oldest in the family.
Raph has two little brothers to fight for too.
And Donnie's the same, he has two older siblings, but he also has a youngest brother. In fact, a twin brother, but the genius turtle takes that minute of difference like it was everything. So, he has a little brother too.
A baby brother for them.
Mikey just has three older siblings, he's not the oldest to anyone.
And, if Leo is the oldest sibling, she should die first. And Raph should be the next and then, Donnie would continue.
And the last one should be Mikey.
That's how it should happen.
There's no way that things won't happen like they have thought. There's no fucking way that the oldest have to live more than the youngest.
They, at some point, know that with all the things they have been through, it was possible that one of them, regardless of how old they are, if they're the youngest or the oldest, they could never come back to the lair one day.
But they...they never thought about what member.
They never thought that the one who never came back would be the baby of the family.
That's not how it should happen.
THAT'S NOT THE WAY IT SHOULD BE
And yet...
When they have stopped the imminent attack of an angry mother.
At the time Raph was able to keep the little alien turtle he met on the lava planet.
They realized something.
Someone was missing. Someone they had left behind.
They had been convinced that Casey and Mikey would still be in there, that they would even be complaining about how boring it had been to stay behind.
But they never rushed to them.
They didn't run, they didn't call their phones, they didn't try to communicate.
Until Bishop approached. They had lost him in all the chaos of talking to Chompy's mom. And when they saw it, somehow, they knew it was a bad sign, the kind that sent shivers all over their shells.
And then they saw him.
They saw him after walking through the silent hallways of TCRI.
They saw him after passing through a completely shocked Casey, as if he were a blank canvas. There was no doubt that the boy was shaken and judging by his wet cheeks, he had been crying.
And they hadn't wanted to know the reason, but...Mikey wasn't there.
And that simple fact made their blood run cold, even for cold-blooded reptiles like them.
But there they saw him.
Lying on a metal stretcher, tied up and with blood around him...
...was the youngest.
Michelangelo Hamato.
Dead.
And things should never have been this way.
No.
The youngest is supposed to die the last.
And it's supposed that if he dies last, it should be a natural death like all of them should have.
Not like that.
Not with a hole in the chest. A hole that, with only seeing it, made them feel horrible.
Raph fell to his knees as soon as he saw him.
'cause the simple fact of seeing the youngest in that state is capable of destroying the strongest and largest dam that has ever been built.
And Donnie.
Donnie scream.
And Leo didn't have the strength to stop him when the sbelt turtle reached out and grabbed the freckled turtle's cold face.
Mumbling "Nonono, this...this can't be real, no, Mikey, say all of this is a joke. Pleasepleaseplease" with the most painful expression Leo has seen on Donnie's face.
She didn't have the courage to approach him, to hugged him, because she couldn't move.
She couldn't believe it.
She was the older.
And she's living longer than she should have lived.
Because her baby is dead and that shouldn't be like that, it should never be like that.
.
.
Everyone has agreed with something.
They hate seeing that piece of stone with the name of his beloved brother six feet under them.
And Leo hates how deep the expression of her father is. Because that expression, is of someone who has lost it all.
And for her father, over again.
The farm was the place the youngest loved the most, the place where he has learned and passed a lot of things. It's fair that they've decided to bury him there.
And things would never be the same. She knows it.
And she hates it. More than anything.
Chapter 5: 2012(my au): There (Donnie)
Summary:
I wanted to do some parts of this au with Mikey's siblings, I published the Leo one, soooo I wrote one about Donnie. Raph chapter should be able to write soon- I'm on school exams after all-
Notes:
A little reminder: English it's not my first language- I live with my own English knowledge and the translator.
If I'm not a expert with English, why I'm writing this?? Because I can.
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Chapter Text
An annoying sound was heard in the lab, the sound of rusty metal over the years should not bother him, most of the objects in his laboratory were at risk of rusting and most of them, like the sliding doors, had begun to rust to a point where practically the slightest movement unleashed an obnoxious squeak.
This sound, instead of coming from the big doors, came from a chair, a swivel chair that they had found in the trash once and that Donnie had worked hard to fix.
Mikey loved that chair. His twin could practically spin and spin for as long as he wanted or just until Donnie stopped him because 'Too many spins will melt your brain, Mikey.'
And the chair had begun to rust a little, squeaking when moved.
And Donnie could fix it, at this point in their lives they had been through so much, he himself even had to fix and replace things he never expected to have under his hands. A squeaky chair is not a challenge.
But, Mikey loves it.
Mikey found it amusing that the chair made such an annoying sound to the four of their mutant ears.
His twin considers it his own personal mark in the lab, something about him being in the lab.
And Donnie couldn't screw that up, technically he could. He's not a perfectionist like a certain turtle, but he could certainly find the sound so imperfect, so much so that it needed maintenance.
But he couldn't do that.
Call him soft, but Donnie is sure he could allow himself to feel that way, by being only a minute older than Mikey, he would allow himself to feel that way as much as he allowed to call himself his twin's big brother.
So yeah, he's soft when it comes to his brothers. Even if two of them are older. That doesn't change anything.
So, Donatello did nothing to fix the chair. Opting to leave it there for Mikey to sit on when he entered Donnie's place.
The chair alone already seemed to belong to Michelangelo, remaining empty and isolated until his twin entered, his radiant energy eating away at every corner of the laboratory, climbing onto the chair only to stay by his side for as long as it took him to get bored of the cold and colors that live in that simple lab.
And as long as Mikey was welcome in the lab, as long as Mikey lived in that dirty sewer with them. The chair would remain there, like an object belonging to the youngest turtle.
Donatello would never be able to get rid of that squeaky chair his twin was sitting in right now, spinning and laughing just to distract him from his overwhelming work.
Don's face was furrowed, almost into an annoyed grimace, but...in fact, the turtle was in a battle with himself just to keep himself from smiling and playfully kicking his twin's chair, just to force him to stop his spinning.
But he didn't make the slightest attempt to follow his instinct, even so, a soft snort escaped his lips, managing, unknowingly, to increase the sound of laughter.
Yeah, Donatello can deal with an' old simple chair making an annoying sound in all the area.
.
.
.
.
.
.
The glass fragments spread throughout the laboratory, falling to the floor with incredible force, almost turning the pieces into dust.
Donatello's hands were shaking. He was angry, he was upset, he felt totally frustrated.
Tears invaded his vision but that didn't stop him, he clenched his hands into extremely unstable fists before approaching the desk.
He dropped everything from the edge of the desk, grunting when the act brought no relief to his already frustrated mind. He needed to cause more disaster.
His vision blurred by tears and anger, he crawled to the shelves, beginning to throw each of the books and objects roughly, almost wildly as his breathing became increasingly unstable.
Another growl, Donnie brought his hands to his head, breathing deeply to calm himself, cause he was making a mess when he shouldn't be angry.
He shouldn't be mad at this place, at the place he learned and loved for being the only place in the sewer where he could do whatever he wanted, with certain rules, but still at his own discretion.
Everything just felt wrong, this place, this lab, didn't feel right.
Rusty brown eyes focused on a corner away from all the mess, a seemingly empty corner but with one more desk ahead of it. And a closed closet behind.
He did not register how his body began to move at a heavy pace towards the corner, he barely managed to notice his erratic breathing and the tears that were already falling aggressively from his eyes.
Donatello needs destruction.
He raised both arms in the air before sweeping them all over the writing, the glass fell and the papers crumpled as the books and paperweights fell on top.
With both hands again, he knocked over the desk along with the contents of the open drawers.
Nothing.
Donatello is still furious.
Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a blurry black spot, a spot mixed with colorful dots.
He clenched his fists and turned, raising one of his arms to knock down whatever was behind him.
He frozzed.
A chair.
A rusty chair with colorful dots.
The swivel chair of...
His knees buckled, sending his body to the floor as his trembling hands gripped the edge of the chair tightly.
A sob.
Then a sniff.
And then, the fury left his body.
The laboratory was destroyed, not completely but it was a mess.
But, he just cried.
Like he had never done before.
He stayed there, his head resting on the chair as his body shook with every breath.
He was gone.
His twin was gone.
In a different laboratory than his, but in a fucking laboratory.
And HE couldn't did anything. Too busy piloting the Krang ship that kept his older brother stable in the air, just to talk to an angry alien mom.
HE COULDN'T DO ANYTHING
AND NOW MIKEY'S GONE.
AND IT'S ALL HIS-
A warm feeling.
A familiar feeling, the warm feeling of when someone hugs you tightly but never to hurt you. The kind of hugs his twin used to give him...
Everything stopped and his head shot up, looking around.
There was no one around him, just him, his destroyed laboratory and the chair soaked by his tears.
There's no Mikey there.
and the feeling was gone too.
Tears were still streaming down his face, the situation was so strange, he swears he felt someone hug him.
But there was no one there.
Just the weird and warm feeling of someone at his side.

Chapter Text
The darkness never go well with Michelangelo.
His siblings used to call him their light, a light that faltered when all seemed lost, but never disappeared, never went out, never was lost.
Raph depended on that light, depended on seeing his little brother live without losing that light inside him, in his eyes. In his smile.
Splinter once told them both, "Your smiles are very similar, my sons."
And with pride, they could both remember how ecstatic they were to learn that. Too lost in trying to rub what their father had mentioned in their other two siblings faces.
Mikey's smile light up every corner of the stinking sewer they lived in, the light they all grew used to seeing and rarely took the time to acknowledge.
And if his little brother's smile shone, it meant Raph's did too, but he didn't think it was as bright as Mikey's. No, his was special; his little brother had a youthful, lively glow in every smile, motivating them to believe that everything was worth it.
But it's not worth it when that light fades.
Mikey's smile never goes away, never goes out.
But just as Raph's went out, Mikey's faded.
Something that shouldn't have happened, because Mikey was simply light, his smile illuminating them all, along with his sky-blue eyes.
They shouldn't have looked so dead and lifeless.
They shouldn't have looked dull or red from shed tears.
And that hole in his chest should never have existed.
And, he mentioned earlier that the darkness was never a Mikey's thing
And Raph meant it. For his smile that always shine and bever goes away and through the incessant fear of the dark that his little brother felt at night.
That's why Mikey started sleeping with nightlights in his room.
Mikey didn't like the darkness; in fact, he hated it.
His smile was a light for them, but not for Mikey.
And now there's no smile to brighten their lives, and no nightlight to keep his little brother from having bad nights.
Because he's gone, he left his side that day at the TCRI facility. He left knowing his brothers were far away and not knowing if they're saved the world from the gigant angry mother. He left, welcomed by the darkness he has always scared about.
And Raph wants to punch something, but he can't. He doesn't have the strength to do it, not like Donnie, who's decided to destroy his lab.
He doesn't have the strength for that.
But he did have the strength to notice that Mikey's room was dark, stained black by the half-open door and the dim light from the sewer.
That wasn't right. Mikey didn't like the dark, and if any of his baby brother's essence is still present, he'll make sure he's not afraid of the dark. Never nor even now.
Raph was supposed to have only gone out for a glass of water, leaving Chompy asleep in his little "bed". He cursed a little for having Mikey's room so close, cause it made the pain in his chest worse and bigger, but he was also grateful for it, because he could notice the darkness in the room. The dark that it always was the enemy of his baby brother.
"Raph, what are you doing up so late?" He heard a voice behind him. Leo, his sister, was standing in the doorway of her own room, looking at him with those blue eyes so familiar to those of the baby they lost.
"Mikey doesn't like the dark."
"Raph, just go back to bed..."
"No, my baby brother doesn't like the dark, and...dead- or alive, I won't let him be afraid of the dark." Tears pricked his face as he walked into the empty room and turned on the nightlights Donnie had built for the youngest. "Never"
"Are you staying there tonight?"
"It's usually Mikey who invades my room sometimes." Raph's face look up his sister's for a few seconds before he walked into the room. "I'm staying."
"Okay." His sister disappeared, and Raph lay back on the painfully cold bed, his head slightly buried in his shell.
"Is there room for two more?" He lifted his head at the return of his older sister's voice.
"Mikey always liked company," the purple and red turtles agreed, the taller one moving further into the room and the red one making some space on the bed.
They settled into a turtle pile, a pile they had to adjust due to the lack of someone important in the lair.
That night, the three of them slept there, by the glow of the bedroom nightlight, tears streaming down their faces.
Before Raph could let himself fall asleep.
He thought he heard a faint laugh, if only his vision hadn't been so blurry and his mind so distant. Maybe he would have said something in the morning about the small flicker of light next to everyone and the bright smile that managed to form there, or even the chill of the missing space in his pile being filled with such familiar warmth.
Maybe Mikey wasn't really gone.
Notes:
This chapter took so long just cause I have a TERRIBLE writer's block- more than I don't had the words, just the ideas 🦆
