Work Text:
At school you could always hear comments from students about Rui, however he always believed that they were justo stupid, they always talked about him as if he were the strangest person in the whole school or in the world, as if he were from an extravagant species. Have you ever heard about the eccentric boy who sits on the rooftop during lunch? Rui thought about those comments about himself in a mocking way. But he knew that he was going through bad times trying not to think about the things they told him, they had told him that for so long that he began to believe each of them.
He spent his days at school a little lonely and bored, talking to Mizuki entertained him a lot but they only saw each other on the roof and he was already tired of that daily routine that was driving him crazy, plus Mizuki had found someone to hang out with as well. When the school day was over He decided to get some air and go for a walk. While the boy was walking he found a nice park with flowers, he saw a small butterfly perched on one of the flowers which left him observing nature for a few minutes, it had been a long time since he had gone out and enjoyed something like that, in the distance he could see children playing , it was nice to see how they were enjoying their childhood and innocence, it was getting dark and the sky was turning yellow, Rui was enjoying all that.
The path he was walking was a tree-lined street, he raised his head to see the gaps of sunlight that came through the trees, there were benches on each side of the sidewalk and he was walking in the middle, he missed the company more than anything at that moment. He didn't need everyone to see that he was doing his best, but he couldn't stand it if no one was watching him, he needed someone to tell him that he was doing well and that he could handle that and much more.
There weren't many people in this part of the park but he soon found his sight on a boy sitting on one of the benches, he was blonde and had a different uniform than him. When he paid more attention he noticed that the boy seemed to be sobbing and looked a little angry at the same time, Rui had no idea what to do but then for a second their eyes met. “Oh, I'm sorry, I'm leaving.” The blonde looked away and tried to get up. "Wait!" Rui didn't really know what he was doing but he was worrying about the boy. "Are you okay? I don't want to bother you." The shorter boy changed his face almost in an instant. “Pfft, don't worry, I'm fine!” It seemed like he was talking to a different person now, but his face screamed that he wasn't having a good time, he had a rather forced smile and his eyes were still a little swollen from crying. The child's performance did not help much since in moments he could no longer contain himself and unconsciously let go a couple of tears. “I don't think you're okay right now, you're crying.” Rui didn't want to sound offensive now he wanted to offer the boy some help.
“Who am I kidding...” “You're right,” he paused briefly to sit up completely again. “You can go, it's stupid.” “No,” the taller man came up to sit next to him. “I'm Rui, Kamishiro Rui.” “And you are..?” Rui was looking at him, the other one was still looking at the floor “The future star Tenma Tsukasa” he said without much encouragement “Fufu, future star?” “Tell me future star, why are you feeling sad today?” Tsukasa turned to look at him "I don't want to bother you with my own problems" Rui furrowed his eyebrows a little "You're not bothering me, I offer to listen because I want to" "I know it's not nice to suffer in silence" there was a brief pause when he blurted out that last sentence “You are very kind” Tsukasa was still sobbing. "I am because I know sadness and I can be kind to others Tenma-kun." The other boy rubbed his eyes to keep the tears from his face. “Tenma-kun, I know I may be a complete stranger and I may seem like a weirdo, but do you want to talk to me? I promise everything will be okay.”
“Are you sure?” He brought his legs to his chest while hugging them and lowered his head. “Rui nodded. “You don't need to tell me if you don't want to.” The blonde took only a few seconds to give him the answer. "Okay, I guess I need to vent a little." Rui's gaze was gentle and delicate. His eyes wrinkled and his lips widened to show him a smile. "I'm all ears" he said as he bowed slightly his head. The blonde looked at him a little surprised, he had found him quite cute. Finally Tsukasa spoke "It's my sister, she has me a little worried" his voice was trembling "She has this illness and she is almost always in the hospital with my parents" The tall boy remained quiet but attentive and serious, he remembered having seen a hospital nearby from the park on his way, he assumed he came from there. “I want to make sure Saki is happy during her stay in the hospital but…” his voice cut off instantly. “But?” Rui asked. “Mom and dad are almost never at home because they are always taking care of Saki and I really don't like being alone in my house, I'm sorry this is really stupid.”
Rui understood Tsukasa completely "Oh, Tenma-kun there is nothing stupid in your words, after all they are your parents you have the right to miss them and feel alone if they are not there, I imagine you love them a lot, don't you?" Tsukasa looked back at him while still curled up in a ball. “Yes, I do. I love my parents as much as I love Saki.” “But I always get tired of waiting for them to come home. I want to have my family at home.” Rui softly caressed the blonde's back which made him a little surprised at the touch. “I'm so sorry you have to go through all this, it must be very difficult for you.” Tsukasa let go of his legs and sat down normally. “ Is there something I can do for you, star?” The other immediately blushed at the nickname "I think I just need some company." Then Rui gave him a big hug which Tsukasa reciprocated and they stayed like that (neither of them had received a hug like that in a long time).
“Would you come with me to my house? Today my parents will stay in the hospital,” the blonde murmured in a low voice. “It would be a pleasure Tenma-kun” Rui caresses his back in circles “please, just Tsukasa is fine” The taller one was surprised but smiled softly at his request “Of course Tsukasa-kun”
Both boys walked towards Tsukasa's house holding hands, neither of them seemed to care too much about that. They were talking about themselves on the way home, and the things they liked to do. Rui opened up a little to Tsukasa to confess his situation at school to which the blonde responded with comforting words for him. They were both lonely boys who had found each other through fate and were ready to offer each other the affection they needed.
