Chapter 1: PROLOGUE: Wonderful Beginnings

Chapter Text

Animal Town. The name says it all. A town where people and animals live side by side, as a loving family. One of these families is the Inukai family. They run Friendly Animal Hospital and Salon. They take care of animals and help them, and have a dog of their own. The adorable and high-energy Papillon, Komugi.

One day, Iroha Inukai, the daughter, found Komugi in the rain, in a bush all beaten up, and seemingly untrusting of humans, but Iroha decided to try and help bring her into the hospital, and since then, Komugi was raised as their own, and Iroha gained a new little fluff sister in Komugi, becoming practically inseparable, despite Komugi’s previous untrustworthy behaviour.

One day, Iroha and Komugi were walking. On their way, they saw a new family moving into a house. Animal Town was the recent city to have the fashion and makeup store Pretty Holic open up, after Aozora City, Oshiina Town, and Sorashido City. Iroha noticed that there was a girl with brown hair in the window, and a little white cat. The girl seems to be shy, and hides away. The cat is less than amused, but Iroha stays hopeful that one day, she can talk to the girl, and become friends with both her and her cat.

She later meets up with her childhood friend Satoru Toyama and his Holland Lop, Daifuku. She learns about the mirror stone, and makes a wish; a wish to be friends with all animals. And to hope she and Satoru are in the same class when school starts.

Suddenly though, one day, at the park, Iroha and Komugi are almost attacked by a Garugaru. Iroha tries to run away, but it seems she’s about to be hurt, or worse, killed. But just as she’s about to be struck, Komugi jumps in to save her, suddenly talks, and becomes…human?!

Komugi transforms into Cure Wonderful, and is able to heal the Garugaru, learning that it was actually possessed, the Garugaru actually being a small sheep, whom they learn is called Mey Mey, a butler from Niko Garden. Mey Mey explains that his home has been shrouded into darkness, and the Niko Animals have been turned into Garugarus as well, and that their ruler, Niko has gone missing. He says that Komugi can be able to save and heal them back to normal as Cure Wonderful.

Iroha is completely stunned by this turn in events, but eventually, comes to learn that she wants to help, and soon enough, she is able to become a Precure as well, Cure Friendy. She and Komugi work together as Wonderful Precure, in an effort to rescue the animals of Niko Garden. Things go a bit haywire when Satoru eventually learns of their secret, but he is more than willing to help them, giving them facts about animals that can help purify it.

Soon enough, Iroha’s hopes of the past come true as eventually, she is actually able to meet and talk to the girl in the window from before, the meek but well-meaning Mayu Nekoyashiki, and her cat, the sassy Turkish Angora, Yuki, whom turns out, was also taken in by Mayu after a vacation with her father, where she found Yuki, dirty and alone under the house in the snow, which earned Yuki her eventual name.

Eventually, Yuki is somehow able to become a Precure, Cure Nyammy, and Komugi and Iroha have to teach her to stop attacking the Garugarus, but Yuki would rather shake her braincells around like a maraca and refuse to listen. Mayu eventually finds out tells Yuki off, and after a small fall out, Mayu decides to join the Precure, turning from just an ally to Cure Lillian. The two eventually become their own duo, the rather punny Nyanderful Precure. And though it takes a while, Yuki eventually ends up liking and trusting Iroha and Komugi, and the group come to enjoy each other’s company through multiple days spent together.

Things however, start getting a bit tricky with the arrival of Zakuro and Torame. Garugarus became Gaogaons, much stronger than the girls are able to handle, not even their healing items are able to stop them. Thankfully, with the help of Niko, the Diamond Unicorn, who had just newly found and reborn from an egg prior to the encounter with Zakuro and Torame, was able to help them via the Diamond Ribbon Castle. And it is that moment that solidified Cure Wonderful, Cure Friendy, Cure Nyammy and Cure Lillian as Wonderful Precure.

However, one still feels like they haven’t done anything to help. No matter how much research he puts into animal knowledge….all Satoru Toyama ever does it watch. He wants to help them in other ways, but he doesn’t know how. And he doesn’t think he’s got what it takes to join the Precure…especially given how ever since childhood, Satoru has major crush on Iroha…but one day, a strange, new face appears near the mirror stone.

And that…is where our story begins.

Chapter 2: CHAPTER ONE: “I Wish I Could Do Something…”

Summary:

Days after the girls are given the Diamond Ribbon Castle, Satoru is learning more about the wolves that have recently popped up. He also is starting to doubt how much help he is, and he decides to go to Niko Garden with the others and talk to Niko.

Chapter Text

It had been a few days since the Wonderful Precure saved Animal Town for the 30th time, this time from Zakuro and Torame, two wolves from Gao-tachi, a new group of villains, who had escaped their stone prison, and brought upon new havoc with Gaogaons, who were upgraded versions of Garugarus.

Whilst happy, Satoru Toyama is more focused on learning more about Zakuro and Torame's race, and it's history. He's been researching them for a few days now, and the stress has been getting to him. His bunny, Daifuku, hops on the desk, looking at him, with his deadpanned but caring magenta eyes, letting out a small squeak, to get his owner's attention.

Satoru lifts his head up, looking at the white fluffball, and smiles. He pets Daifuku's head, the bunny leaning against the affection. "Thanks, Daifuku..." he said, getting his head off the desk. Daifuku was the one to tell Satoru to not give up when the wolves attacked, and Satoru felt like he was partially responsible for helping the girls find a new healing power.

Still, Satoru wished he could do more. Ever since finding out that Iroha and Komugi were Precures, he had been their constant light and ally, always helping them, even if he didn't have any powers himself. Even so, he wished he could be by their side, and actually healing the animals too. Iroha was the sole reason he taught himself about animals, so he wanted to use those facts whilst chasing an animal, and eventually healing it.

Satoru however, didn't have faith in himself. He doesn't think he has what it takes to be a Precure. Were things really okay this way? For him to just watch from the sidelines?

Before his thoughts could go any deeper, his phone started buzzing. Satoru jumped, and immediately scrambled to pick it up. Seeing the receiver, the profile picture at the top was...Iroha. Satoru immediately answered the phone.

"Satoru, hey!" Iroha's every cheerful voice rang out. Satoru smiled. Even the sound of Iroha's voice was enough for him to smile. "Ah, hello, Miss Inukai." Satoru spoke. "What do you need?"

"Well, me, Komugi, Yuki and Mayu were planning on visiting Niko Garden, and we were wondering if you'd wanna come along? I'm sure Mey Mey would be happy to see you again."

Satoru was surprised by the request. Sure, he was allowed to go too, despite not being a Precure, but still, it felt odd. Then again, he was able to make a best friend of Mey Mey, so it wasn't bad. "Of course. I assume we're meeting up at yours?"

"Yup! Same as usual!" Iroha replied. Even if she wasn't there physically you could still hear the energy in her voice. It was such a refreshing feeling given how dead she looked when she was defeated during the first encounter with Gao-tachi. "See you later, Satoru!"

"Yeah, see ya." Satoru replied. The phone hung up, and he immediately began to get ready. "Daifuku." he said, knowing Daifuku would recognise the tone. Daifuku hopped over to his hutch, and entered it. Daifuku needed his nap anyways, so Iroha picked the perfect time to call Satoru. "I'll be back in a bit." Satoru smiled, before exiting the house.

Satoru worried about leaving Daifuku alone a lot. Especially without the presence of his parents. His mom was abroad, and his father was away on a business trips, so Satoru was practically home alone. His parents loved him, and his father always made sure to make sure Satoru was well taken care of, and his mom would usually call him, but it was still lonely with just him, Daifuku and occasional babysits from his grandfather.

But Satoru also knew Daifuku was a strong little bunny. He could fend for himself surprisingly well. Though sometimes he did wish Daifuku could do what Komugi and Yuki did for Iroha and Mayu; be able to become human and talk to him. Satoru always wanted to understand what Daifuku was saying. Maybe he could visit the mirror stone on his way home? It wasn't far from his home either...

But right now, Satoru focused on heading to Friendly Animal Hospital and Salon, which is where Iroha and Komugi live.

A few moments later, he and the girls had all arrived at Niko Garden. It looked so much better compared to when he, Iroha and Komugi first came here. To think, it used to be a place of ruin, but now? All of the Kirarin Animals had been healed and rescued, and Queen Niko had returned at last. While still more was to come, Satoru was incredibly proud of the girls.

Still…he wished he could do more.

Niko was telling them everything she wasn’t able to last time due to the sudden arrival of the wolves. Her eyes darted to Satoru, who had brought his research on the wolves. “Ah! Satoru! I see you’ve been busy!” she smiled. Satoru looked up, laughing awkwardly. “Oh? Y-yeah, I thought…maybe there could be some information about them that could be useful for helping them.” he said.

“Waah!! Satoru is at it again!” Komugi Inukai beamed, hugging him tightly. “Ack! K-Komugi!”

Mayu Nekoyashiki laughed. “Yeah, he’s always ready for anything!.” “I will admit, he always knows how to steer us to the right direction.” Yuki Nekoyashiki added.

“That’s our Satoru for you!” Iroha smiled. “He’s been helping me since the beginning, and I’m very grateful for that!”

Satoru was a blushing mess at the flurry of praise and compliments. “A-ah…it’s nothing, really.” he laughed. Niko could have sworn something was amiss in Satoru’s expression, but decided not to say anything at the moment. A short while later, the girls were playing around with the Kirarin animals. Satoru chose to stay under the gazebo and watch them, mainly due to how he wasn’t really that athletic. Once again, he was just watching them.

Niko took the opportunity to try and talk to him. “Satoru,” she started. “I couldn’t help notice your expression at one point. Is everything alright?”

Satoru looked at the little unicorn on the table, wondering if he should talk about his worries. It was probably best he just let it out here and now. “Well…” he started. Niko prepared herself to listen.

“Ever since I found out that Miss Inukai and Komugi had become Precure, I’ve been by their side, through thick and thin. But, as time went on, I started doubting myself. I know my facts on various animals are helping, and I’m glad they are, but…anytime they’re in danger, what hurts me the most is the fact that I can’t do anything to help them…I run to them, but I just freeze like a statue from then… it’s to the point where no matter how much research I put into helping them…I can’t do anything else…I wish I could do something…anything else to help them.”

Niko’s expression was one of sympathy and understanding. She nodded her head, signalling she knew how he felt. “Ah, I see. It’s completely understandable to feel that way. In fact, I share that feeling too.” she said. Satoru looked at Niko, surprised by her words. “What? What do you mean?”

“Well, when the Precure had been beaten to the ground, my mind was experiencing a flurry of my own emotions and feelings. On one hand, I was surprised they were taken down quickly, the other, doubtful of their ability…but more importantly, I felt…weak. Like, I should have given then that castle earlier…but I knew I was too weak at that time. But eventually, I managed to gain a little bit of my power back, and help the girls find a way to heal the Gaogaons.” Niko explained.

“So if I can find a way to help them, I’m sure you can too, Satoru.”

Satoru was taken aback. The amount of understanding and sympathy this tiny unicorn had was unbelievable. But Satoru smiled, looking down at her. “Thank you, Niko. I needed that. I mean it. Thanks.”

Niko smiled. “Of course!”

“Satoru!” Komugi’s voice rang out. “Me and the others are starting a round of Hide and Seek! Let’s play together!”

Satoru looked at Komugi and the others, with a smile. “Alright! On my way!” he said, before running over to the girls. Niko watched, smiling at how Satoru seemed to be in a better mood, but secretly, she was contemplating something. “Hmm…I guess it wouldn’t hurt to make another pair.” she mumbled to herself, before turning around and walking to somewhere else.

The sun in the sky of Niko Garden slowly set, making way for the moon. The group was getting ready to go home, but Satoru was approached by Yuki when he put his bag over his shoulder. The blonde looked at him in a rare moment of concern and worry. “Are you alright, Satoru? I heard you talk to Niko, and I couldn’t help notice your dejected state.” she asked.

Satoru looked at Yuki, thinking of what to say. Those blue eyes of her were piercing, which was to be expected since well, she was half-human, half-cat. “Yeah. I just needed someone to talk to about something. Wasn’t in a good mood.”

Yuki couldn’t help feel a little suspicious, but she regarded Satoru as a reliable and trustworthy man, so she decided to let it slide. “Alright. But, remember…even if you’re not as active as us, if you need anything, we’ll be here.” she said.

Satoru smiled, appreciating Yuki’s kindness. It was a far cry from how she used to be in front of them. He was glad she was able to be more open to them. “Thanks, Yuki. I’ll keep it in mind.”

The group had returned to Iroha’s room, and shortly afterwards, they all bid their farewells, and Mayu, Yuki and Satoru made their ways back home. Satoru felt bad about having to make Daifuku wait for that long, but he was sure his grandfather was taking care of him.

Suddenly…a strange noise emitted from somewhere. Satoru turned around, confused. He could have sworn that it was coming from the Mirror Stone. He shook off that feeling, thinking it was just his imagination, when suddenly, he felt himself bump into a a body. He was so distracted that he didn’t see that someone was walking in his direction. Satoru rubbed the sore bits of his body from the fall, internally hitting himself for not watching where he was going.

“Hey, you okay? Sorry, I should have said somethin’.” a masculine voice spoke. The guy he bumped into. Satoru’s peripheral vision saw the guy was holding out his hand, to help him up. “U-uhh…yeah, I’m okay. You don’t need to apologise…I should have been looking where I was going.” Satoru responded, grabbing his hand, and being pulled up. He dusted his clothes, and looked up, but his eyes widened at the guy’s appearance.

The guy seemed his age. His hair looked really scraggy and messy, and there were some grey streaks in it too. His hands were in the pockets of a grey jacket, accented with orange, black and yellow. Around his shirt was a blue necktie, and Satoru could have sworn he had seen it before.

“Well,” the boy said, smiling. “I’m glad you’re okay. See ya.” he waved as he walked away. Satoru turned around, watching him walk away. “…huh? That was…strange…who was that guy?” Satoru just continued walking home, but his mind was still on that strange boy.

Somewhere else, Yuki and Mayu had returned home to Pretty Holic. “Mama, we’re home!” Mayu called out. “Just give me a moment, Mayu.” Yuki said. Mayu nodded, understanding why. She entered the building, and when alone, Yuki pulled out her Shiny Cats Pact. She looked at it fondly. To think, she was given this randomly, and thought her only purpose as a Precure was to protect Mayu. But now, she was protecting her, the others and animals. Yuki looked at the moon. It was in the same lunar phase back when Yuki first became a human.

Yuki heard a few footsteps suddenly, and she turned around, seeing a strange boy. Said boy noticed her, and smiled. “Good evening, miss.” he smiled, waving. Yuki was surprised by the modesty, and gave a little formal curtsy. “Good evening.” she said back. The boy continued on walking afterwards. Yuki couldn’t help but feel a strange sense of…deja vu…. “Don’t be silly, Yuki…” she reprimanded herself. “It was just a normal civilian.”

“Yuki!” Mayu’s voice called out. “Where are you? Are you alright?” Yuki’s eyes perked up. Right, she almost forgot. “Coming, Mayu.” she replied, pulling out her Shiny Cats Pact again, and turning back into her cat form. She walked into the house, and was greeted by Sumire, her mom, who knew she could become a human, but was surprisingly okay with it. She finds it odd, but it was very like Sumire. Yuki walked up to Mayu’s (and technically her) room, ready for a good sleep.

But still, that guy was on her mind, as well as Satoru’s…

Who was he?
