Work Text:
Evan "Buck" Buckley sighed as he looked at the house he had bought impulsively. He loved it and he knew that he would have bought it even if he had thought about it for several days. What had him down was that once again his friends and family were putting him off on spending time with him. He knew that were off that day, but once again they said they had other plans when he asked them to meet up for even just an hour because he had something he wanted to show them. For him that had been the last straw and it was the reason why he was on his own looking at his very large house and the land that it sat on. He had been ecstatic to find a great house that was on over thirty acres of land and he had no problem paying for it. He was happy that he had never told anyone about his money because he had no doubt that if Maddie or Chimney knew that he had money that they would have been after him to give it to Maddie since she had blown through what she received from Doug after he was killed.
He took in a deep breath and let it out as he walked up the walkway that led to his front porch and door. He felt the wards and sighed in relief at the fact that his friend had finished setting them up. He had no doubt that his friend set them up in such a way that they wouldn't let anyone who meant him the slightest bit of harm across them which was good since he still wasn't one hundred percent from the ladder truck bombing. As he thought about the bombing he finally thought about if he actually wanted to return to the 118 or if it would be better for him to take the offer that the Captain at the 56 made him. He had to admit that working out of the 56 was very tempting because he knew that he would be safe there. He knew that he would be looked after and that nobody would do what those at the 118 have done to him for the last several weeks.
He opened his front door, walked inside, and came to a stop at what he saw. He huffed and smiled at the four people standing in his foyer. "I should have known that you would do something like this, Stiles."
Stiles smiled softly and shrugged his shoulders as he looked at Buck closely. "I talked to your dad and Daniel and they decided that you shouldn't have to worry about getting a house set up while you are still recovering. I just happened to agree with them and so did Derek, so we did what could to make sure that it was set up for you. You have told Daniel more than once what your home would like if you ever bought a big house like you always dreamed of when you were younger. Your dad went a step further and let me read his mind and it was easy enough to make it happen. You deserve to have the home that you want, Evan, and since you're still learning how to use your magic since it was unbound I figured that it was the least I could do to make it happen. The only rooms that haven't really been done completely is the room that I know you will want set up for Christopher and I left your office alone as well other than having a desk put it in along with other office stuff. I figured that I'd help you get it set up the exact way that you want it set up when you aren't so tired."
Phillip Buckley smiled sadly at his youngest son. "I know how much you want to show this place off to those that you call family, Buck, but I think that you need a break from them. You need to put yourself first for once because you always put others first. It is time to let them all sink or swim on their own without you to hold them up. I am one hundred percent sure that they will find out how much you did for them quickly and they need to learn how not to take you for granted. I know that Chief Alonzo has told you that it is Nash that is keeping you from working and I know that he offered you your choice of firehouses. Honestly, son, I hate to see you as down as you are right now. If none of them can be there for you, then why should you tear yourself in half being there for them? Let them see that they fucked up because you have to admit that they have fucked up. You have a lot going on and if they can't take sixty minutes out of their day to see something that you want to show them then that is on them and not you.
"I messed up when you were younger and I have done my best to fix that for the last ten years, but I regret not being the dad you needed while you grew up. My parents and your mother's parents left you and Daniel the money that they did because they knew that you two would be responsible with it. Maddie has a trust fund that she can't touch because she has yet to meet even one of terms of that trust fund and I don't think that she will ever meet it if you are always there to bail her out of whatever mess that she finds herself in. It is time for her to learn how to be the adult that she keeps claiming that she is, son, and you need to let it happen. You need to stop paying for her apartment because she makes enough money with her job to pay for it herself. Live your life for yourself, son, and let yourself flourish because I have no doubt that you can and will flourish if you stop letting other people hold you back because they seem to think that they know what you need better than you know yourself."
Buck bit his bottom lip and slowly nodded because he knew that his dad was speaking nothing but the truth. He pursed his lips for a moment and thought about everything that his dad had said to him. He looked at his older brother and when he saw the look in Daniel's eyes he knew right then that his brother agreed with their dad. He nodded more firmly and pulled out his cell phone and sent off two text messages before he blocked one of the numbers that he texted. He put his cell phone back in his pocket and then smiled grimly at the small group all looking at him with narrowed eyes. "I texted Maddie to let her know that I would no longer be paying the rent on her apartment and I texted my financial advisor to stop the payments for Maddie's apartment and to cancel the emergency credit card that I gave Maddie that I also made payments on. You are right, dad, that if I keep paying for Maddie's rent and other things that she just can't live without that she's never going to act like the adult she loves to claim that she is. She can pay for her apartment, her bills, and any extras herself especially since I have told her more than once not to use the card I gave her for things that aren't a nessecity and yet she uses it anyways for things for her and Chimney to go out and do. I shouldn't have to pay for their dates and I really shouldn't have to give money to a man who has no problem talking down to me and/or treating me like shit whenever he thinks that I need to be put in my place just so that I will give into Maddie easier when she makes her ridiculous demands."
He sucked in a breath and rand a hand through his hair. "As soon as I get sat down I will call Chief Alonzo to let him know that I would like to take Captain Gaines offer because I think that the 56 is the best fit for me and not just because they do more Heavy Rescue and S&R. I know that the 56 has several shifters and magic users which can only be a good thing because I already know that with the unlocking of my magic that I'm going to end up drawing idiots to me and I don't want to have to deal with that on my own. And I don't want said idiots to cause harm to those who aren't able to handle them properly. I mean there are a couple shifters at the 118 like Eddie, but he's currently on bereavement leave because I pushed him to ask Alonzo for it since Bobby seemed to hesitate when Eddie commented on needing to take time off to deal with the fact that Shannon died. I still don't have a clue why Bobby acted like he didn't want to give Eddie that time off, but it was fucked up."
Daniel scowled. "Eddie needs the time off and it is doing him good. He is finally clicking with the new therapist that he is seeing. He has a lot of anger inside him about a lot of things and I am sure that if he hadn't found a therapist that he will actually talk to that he would have ended up losing his temper at the worst possible time. Nash never should have had Eddie working that scene as soon as it was found out that the female victim was Shannon Diaz. Then again from what I have heard and seen Nash doesn't mind working scenes that him and none of you should be working because of being too close to things. Personally, I think that you need to sue just Robert Nash for trying to keep you off your job since you have worked things out with Chief Alonzo. It isn't right or fair for Nash to get away with what he is trying to do, Buck, and you damn well know it. That man needs to realize that he is trying to fuck up your career and his own with the way that he is acting. He is overstepping in areas that he shouldn't be and if you had decided to go the route of suing the whole LAFD for his actions then it would cause a lot of problems for the LAFD because what Nash is doing is pretty much calling into question every firefighter that has been cleared to return to work after an injury by the doctors that work with the LAFD to get their members cleared for working again. If you are going to let Maddie learn how to sink or swim on her own then it is time for the others to learn how to sink or swim on their own as well."
Buck chuckled slightly and let his dad and Stiles guide him into his living room and push him down into a comfortable recliner. He looked at his brother and smirked. "I already figured that out for myself, Daniel. I talked to Chief Alonzo about the fact that I think that Bobby needs to face the consequences of his actions and one of those consequences will be a lawsuit targeting just him, but also citing LAFD just because Chief Alonzo wants to use it as a way to hammer home some consequences for those who work A-Shift at the 118. The only one who won't be subjected to questioning is Eddie since he's been off work and dealing with things. I have already warned Eddie that we will be moving him into my house, so that his mother can't get to him as easily as she can currently. I have also offered Ramon Diaz a room because he's currently in the process of filing for a divorce from Helena after everything that he has learned in the last ten days. Honestly one of the guest houses that I am having furnished is for Ramon because I think that he would prefer having his own place rather than living with all of us. I am not going to worry about Bobby, Maddie, Chimney, or Hen any longer because they have proven that I can't rely on them no matter what they try to say to me. I can't trust that they will be there to help me if and when I need them. If anything they have proven that they can't be trusted and I don't like how that makes me feel. I thought that they were better than they have shown themselves to be, and now I will have to deal with knowing that I was completely wrong about them."
Daniel nodded curtly and frowned as he looked around the living room. "Then in that case we need to concentrate on just one of the ten guest houses you have being built and furnishes so that we can get it finished sooner rather than later. I am happy now that you decided to go with a magical construction company rather than a mundane one because they get things built so much quicker."
Buck laughed and waved a hand at Derek. "Blame that one on Derek because he is the one who insisted on the company that I chose to build the guest houses. I mean I am very happy that I did choose them, but I'm not sure if Derek even expected them to get as much done as they have so far."
Derek shook his head. "I knew that they could be trusted not to fleece you and that they wouldn't insist on doing something that you didn't want done when building, but no I didn't expect them to already have six of the guest houses built already. They are selective on who they take on as clients and I know that they are very happy working for you. I also know that they have been doing their best work for you, so I would expect to have bids put in by them when you decide to add more buildings to your property. The land here feels surprisingly clean and untainted in a way that most land doesn't feel anymore for one reason or another. I also wouldn't be surprised if they ask if they can use your land to run around on during the full moons because the land is putting out a vibe that is safe and protected."
Buck smiled and relaxed back into his seat. "I have no problem having packs running around on my land during the full moon, Derek, so please make sure that they know that. As long as I have a way to make sure that none of them mean me or anyone on the property any harm then they can have free run of the whole property. Just be sure to let them know that there will be a child living here and that he has Cerebral Palsy and that they need to be careful around him. I want this house to be a place that Chris knows is completely safe for him. I want him to know that he can go anywhere he wants on the property without fear of being told he can't do something just because he has to come up with different ways to do things then those of us who don't have CP or any other disability. I am licensed to have magical creatures so I plan on having something built to house them. I refuse to hide who and what I am any longer and if certain people can't handle that then they can go fuck a duck for all I care. Let them fuck around and find out just what I am capable of doing. I am no longer going to let other people make my decisions for me because obviously they can't be trusted to make the ones that I want.
"Speaking of decisions, I need to change my medical proxy, medical power of attorney, and regular power of attorney in case I am not able to make decisions for myself due to something or other. I would like to put Eddie and Daniel as my medical proxy. For my medical power of attorney I'd like Stiles, Eddie, and Daniel because that way if there is a tie for a treatment then the third person can break that tie. And finally for my regular power of attorney I'd like dad, Derek, and Stiles to take over it because I know that they will make sure that everything runs smoothly if I am incapacitated for whatever reason."
The group exchanged looks and nodded but it was Phillip who said, "We can do that, but you will have to sit down with all of us and tell us what you want, Buck. Unlike your sister I refuse to go against your known wishes, so I want to make sure that I know your thoughts on as many scenarios as we can do. Will you be able to get the medical proxy and medical power of attorney changed before your surgery in two days?"
Buck smiled sheepishly at his dad and everyone else. "I actually already changed everything because I wanted to make sure that it was completely airtight before my surgery in two days. Chief Alonzo has already made the changes in my work file, so that someone doesn't accidentally let Bobby or Maddie know something that they have no right to know. I have also made it known that nobody is to give Maddie, Bobby, Chimney, or Hen any information about me without my written and verbal consent and that I have to be pain med free in order for them to get that consent. I talked to my doctor yesterday about it because I know that there are a couple nurses on his staff that are friendly with the 118 and he has made it clear to them that if they talk out of turn not only would they be fired that they would be sued and probably lose their nursing licenses because of breaking HIPPA. I got some dirty looks from it, but I just informed them that if they kept looking at me like that, that I would go ahead and make a complaint about them because they obviously couldn't be trusted to keep private information private. Needless to say my doctor agreed and the two nurses who were giving me dirty looks have been reported and will now be under investigation to make sure that they haven't broken HIPPA with not only me but any other patient as well."
Stiles eyes flashed purple and he frowned. "I will contact your doctor and offer my services to make the investigation go quicker. If I remember correctly while he has a couple magic users at his disposal they are at the lower end of the scale and won't be able to speed the process up any. You would think that people who work in a medical field would understand that just because they think something isn't fair that it doesn't mean that they can do what they want when they want without being held to the contracts that they have signed. And a lot of contracts that are being signed is backed up by magic so if they go against what they signed it could end up with some serious repercussions even if they don't have magic themselves. I know for a fact that every single contract at all facilities here in Los Angeles is backed up by magic because I'm the one that they contracted to help magically enforce the clauses in contracts because several people in the past were doing things that they shouldn't have been doing. It is the main reason that Dr. Wells was fired, arrested, charged, and convicted of the shit that she was doing. She didn't bother to read the contract when she signed the new one, so didn't realize that it would be magically enforced to protect those that had to see her for whatever reason. And yes that included them being protected from her trying to force them to have sex with her in order to be cleared for working. I know that she was surprised when she was locked into place after trying to do that with Buck and that people appeared in her office without warning."
Buck shuddered at that reminder. "I still can't believe that she thought it was okay to sleep with her patients like that. She was really surprised when I called her a rapist because honestly that is what she is and I had no give a fucks to not call her on her bad behavior. I have a feeling that Chief Alonzo is going to push for all the firefighters for the LAFD to sign new contracts before the ones that they have signed are up because he wants to make sure that everyone who works for him is protected. If Bobby and Chimney had signed the new contracts already then what they are doing would have been caught sooner than it has been. And I am done talking about all of them for now, so lets talk about something more pleasant because if I continue thinking about what is going on then my magic is going to react and I would prefer that it not react right now because my pain level is kind of high."
At those words everyone moved into action because they didn't like the idea of Buck being in pain but it was Phillip who stayed beside his son and said, "Get your leg propped up, son, because just letting it hang down like that isn't a good thing right now. You need to get it elevated and iced while the pain reliever that Stiles is getting you kicks in. I understand that you had things to do today, but now it is time for you to rest and relax. Go ahead and call Chief Alonzo and let him know what you have decided and let the rest of us worry about things here. You can tell us if you want something moved or not and we will do it. If you tell us how you want young Christopher's bedroom decorated we will also get on that, so that it is done before they get back here tomorrow."
Buck sighed but knew better than to argue with Phillip, especially since he knew that his father was right in what he said. He pulled out his phone and made the call to Chief Alonzo. Once he ended the call he handed his cell to Daniel. "I would like you to keep a hold of my phone and check it every once in a while. The only calls I want answered are ones from Eddie, Chris, Ramon, Carla, or Abuela. Well, I guess you can also answer if Athena calls, but if Chimney, Hen, or Bobby call then let it go to voicemail and make sure to save the voicemails in case I need to use them later on as evidence. The same with any text messages from those three. I really don't want to have to deal with them right now since they couldn't be bothered to come and see me when I asked them to."
Daniel nodded and then quickly opened Buck's phone and put it into Do Not Disturb mode and added the exceptions to who could get a hold of him with it on. He knew that it was better to do that instead of just ignoring any calls that came through. "I set your phone on Do Not Disturb mode, Buck, but I have made sure that Eddie, Chris, Ramon, Athena, Abuela, and Carla can get through it. I figured that was the best way to do it, so that you didn't have to constantly here it ring because I have no doubt that once Maddie sees the text you sent her that she'll try sicking everyone else on you in order to get you to do what she wants."
Buck snorted. "She can try all she damn well wants, but it isn't going to work this time. I have given her more chances than I should have because I wanted to be sure that she was safe in a way that she hadn't been for years. I should have known that she would take advantage of that. Honestly, I always want to think better of her and I know that I shouldn't because she has never once proven that she deserves to be thought better of. I had the locks on the loft changed, so if she tries to get in there she is going to end up arrested and I won't get her out of it this time around. I really should have let Athena arrest her when she broke into Abby's condo like she did when she first arrived in Los Angeles, but I was worried about how bad she looked."
Daniel huffed and rolled his eyes. "You are not the only one who has done something like that, Buck, when it comes to Maddie. I have to say that she learned that from Margaret and she uses it to her advantage as much as she can. I think that she is going to find out soon that she is no longer going to be able to turn the whole oh look at me I need protecting thing to her advantage like she has in the past because people are going to start to realize that she's playing them. She is going to learn the hard way that there are consequences for the shit that she's pulling and that not everyone will help her out of the trouble that she lands herself into.
"Now, do you like what we have done with the living room or would you like us to change things around? We just basically set things up the way that we thought looked good. And before you think that you need to keep it the way that it is, you don't because we actually expect that you will want to have some changes made. The other room that is mainly yours to do is the kitchen. We have things set up, but not a single one of us thinks that you will keep it the way that we set it up because we all know that you are particular when it comes to how your kitchen needs to be put together."
Buck blushed and shrugged his shoulders because it was the truth. "I am very particular about my kitchen that is for damn sure. I have no clue why Bobby has set his up the way that he has, but to me it seems illogical because he puts the pans that he uses the most in the back instead of in the front. And yes, I do like my spices and everything put in certain positions because I always put the ones that I use the most up front, so that it is easier to find them. There is nothing like having to search through a bunch of spices for one certain spice and then finding it either in the very back or in the middle where you hardly would expect it if you use it a lot of times when you are cooking. Is there a hanging wrack in the kitchen for certain pans and utensils? I do like having my cast iron pans hanging rather than in a cupboard so that it is easier for me to know when I need to treat them."
Phillip laughed and gave the other three a told you so look before he looked back at his youngest. "Yes, I made sure that there was a place to hang your cast iron skillets and a place to hang certain cooking utensils. I remember very well how pissed off you were at Margaret when you were growing up because of how she treated her cast iron skillets. You took over the cooking at the age of twelve and never looked back, so I made sure that your kitchen had things I remembered you using when you started cooking at that age. I also bought you a spice rack for the spices that you use the most and then one for the ones that you use but not in everything that you cook. If anything you have gotten more particular about your cooking and that is saying something because you were particular in how you cooked when you were a teenager. There is a reason why I sent you to Paris and other places each summer to learn different cooking styles and there is a reason why I ignored your bitch of a mother each time she bitched about the amount of money I spent on you learning how to cook. I knew when you were thirteen that you were passionate about cooking even if it wasn't what really called to you for a career. I have to admit that I am now pretty sure it was your magic pushing you in a direction that would benefit you because you make meals healthy even if they wouldn't normally be healthy to eat for a regular person."
Stiles laughed and nodded his head from where he was now sitting on one of the three couches in his big ass living room. "That is very much true. My dad did the same thing with me and he has since stopped complaining about me managing what he is allowed and isn't allowed to eat. I am pretty sure that our sparks pushed us into learning how to cook like we did because it is very important that we eat as healthily as we can because of how much magic we use on a daily basis even when we're not actively using magic. Even if you weren't having the problems that you are at the 118 I would be pushing for you to transfer to the 56 or 217, Buck, because they take care of their magic users and you expend a lot of calories in what you do with your work. I have heard from several people that while Nash is a very good cook that he doesn't put in an effort to make sure that everything is healthy in the way that it should be for those who are supernatural beings. There is a reason why those that are supernatural beings tend to bring their own food for them to eat on while they are on shift. A firefighter who is a shifter or a magic user needs more carbs and other stuff in their diet when they are on shift because of how much they can and do burn through in just an eight hour shift let alone a twelve to twenty-four hour shift at any given time. Food literally fuels us in ways that it doesn't for a truly mundane person and everyone knows that or at least they should know that. Every single firefighter for the LAFD has to take a supernatural theory class when they go through the academy and that was retro for those who were already working for the LAFD when that policy was instiuted. I may look into it and make sure that those who were working for the LAFD five years ago have done the required class and if they haven't they will be docked pay and suspended from working until they take the course."
Buck chuckled darkly. "I know that there are several at the 118 who never took the course, but somehow got it signed off as that they did take it. The only reason I know that is because they were talking about it one day within my hearing. I can't actually say that they got signed off on that they actually took it or if they forged signatures for saying that they took it, so yes it would probably be a good idea to get it checked out. Anyways, we will leave the kitchen until tomorrow. I would like to get Chris' bedroom set up though and the one that I have set aside for Eddie as well. Did fixtures get added to Chris' walk-in shower and by the toilet?"
Phillip grinned at Buck. "I personally made sure that they were added. One of the people helping to do the building has a cousin that has CP and she knew of a safe way to also put them in the jacuzzi tub that is in Christopher's bathroom. She also added some spells with Stiles help that will aid in making sure that Christopher has the right amount of pressure coming out of the jacuzzi jets. The flooring has been spelled to be slip proof and it has warming charms on the floor. There are runes that you can touch to make it cooler or warmer in every single room of the house. They were also done in such a way that someone who does not have magic can also make the rooms cooler or warmer as long as you give them permission to change the room temperatures.
“Young Christopher's bedroom has also been spelled to be slip proof as have all the rooms because I know that you would want to make sure that there was no chance that Christopher would be able to accidentally injure himself in the house. There is an elevator and it is run on magic just on the off chance that you lose power for whatever reason. This way Christopher can still get to his bedroom if he doesn't feel up to taking the stairs. I know that you were iffy on the fact that the house has multiple floors, but Stiles himself also added a way for you, Eddie, Christopher, or anyone else who needs it to use the stairs without actually having to walk up them yourself. All you will have to do is touch a specific spot and magic will activate and take you where you want to go in the house."
Buck pursed his lips for a second and then nodded after running through scenarios in his head. "I will have to make sure that Chris knows that it is there, but I will also make sure that he knows that he is only to use it to get up the stairs to where his bedroom is located. I wouldn't want him to use it to get from one room to another that is on the same floor that he is on unless he is hurt or something along that line. I love magic and everything that it can do, but I also don't want to rely on it to get from room to room because that is just a bit ridiculous unless I'm not able to walk properly like I currently can't. I really do appreciate everything that you all have done to get the house ready for me since I've been so damn busy that I haven't been able to carve time out to get it set up the way that I want it. Also, the living room is set up the exact way I planned on setting it up. I love how the seating is spaced out and the rug on the floor. I really am happy that I went with Redwood floors for the house instead of regular tile or carpet. I could have went with carpet, but I knew that if I ended up injured to the point that I would have to be in a wheelchair for a bit that the carpet would make it hard to get around. At least with wooden floors that will not be an issue at all and the fact that all the flooring throughout the house has been spelled to be slip proof just means that if I end up on crutches at some point again that I won't have to worry about my crutches sliding out from under me if I don't get them into the correct position the first try.
"Okay, lets go to Chris' bedroom so that I can tell you guys how I want it set up for him. I really can't wait for him, Eddie, Ramon, and Abuela to get back tomorrow because I want to see the look on their faces when they see their bedrooms. I would like Chris' bedroom walls to be a light purple because he has decided that is his current favorite color. I know that will probably change and that isn't a problem at all. Honestly, I kind of think that it will be fun constantly changing the color of his bedroom wall whenever he wants it. I have been doing some research and I know that there is a way to spell the walls to be color changing and to even change images on it. He is currently loving dinosaurs so I figure that adding a couple different dinosaurs to his walls would be cool and then on his ceiling I can add stars that twinkle in different colors at night."
Stiles hummed in thought as he gently levitated Buck and the chair that he was in up in the air and started toward the stairs that would lead them up to the second floor. He laughed at Buck's yelp as he walked up the stairs with the chair following behind him and the others behind the chair. He waited until Daniel, Phillip, and Derek were all in the bedroom that had been chosen for Chris before he walked in and then set the chair that Buck was in, in the doorway so that he could direct them on how to set up Chris' bedroom. He looked at Buck with narrowed eyes. "I don't want to hear it, Buck, because I know you well enough to know that you would have got up and walked up the stairs regardless of how sore your leg is still feeling for you. My way was easier and it means that you still get to relax while putting us to work on your son's room. When it comes to setting up Eddie's and Ramon's we will just move the chair to each room as well so that you can stay seated and off that damn leg. Now, you said light purple for the walls, so I will do that first since it makes the most sense. Also, there is a desk in the library on the main floor for Chris since it makes the most sense to let him do his homework in the home library. We also have a desk for his bedroom for him to do things that aren't school work."
Buck smiled at that because that had been a thought he had as well and just hadn't said anything to anyone about it yet because he had not made up his mind quite yet on if that was a good idea or not. "Having a desk in the library for Chris to do homework at is a good idea. I also had the thought of having one in his bedroom as well, but I hadn't made up my mind about it yet because I wasn't sure if him having two desks in the house was overkill or not."
Stiles scoffed and shook his head. "You have two desks in this house as well, Buck. We have the one desk for your office, but we also made sure to have one in the library for you. I have no doubt that the one in the library will be used just as much if not more than the one in your office because of the research that you do for papers and the books that you write that nobody but a select few know about. And before you ask, yes both desks have drawers that lock because I know how important it is to you for you to be able to keep things secure. Okay, what dinosaurs do you want on Chris' walls, Buck?"
Buck hummed in thought and then said, "I think a T-Rex, a Velociraptor, and a Triceratops. I know that Chris likes all three of them and others, but those are the ones that he has talked the most about recently. I think if you can make them animated where they walk around that he will be really surprised and excited about them. I also think that adding some planets to his ceiling along with twinkling stars would be awesome with as much as he loves talking about space."
Stiles nodded and quickly set to work on doing that. Once he had both the walls and the ceiling done he looked back at Buck with a raised eyebrow. "What do you think?"
Buck looked at the walls and the ceiling and grinned at Stiles even as he nodded happily. He loved how it turned out and he has no doubt that Chris will love it as well once he finally sees it tomorrow. "I love it, Stiles, and I know that Chris is going to love it as well once he sees it. I have no doubt that he is going to want to take a video of his room so that he can share when he has show and tell next time around and I think that I will let him do just that especially since one of his teachers makes him feel a bit uncomfortable with the attention that she gives him."
He scowled as he thought about that particular teacher and then looked at his brother. "Can you have a background ran on Ana Flores at Durand please, Daniel? Chris used to love having her when his teacher was out because of doctor appointments, but now he is feeling uncomfortable around her. From what Chris has let slip she's been asking a lot of questions about Eddie and it makes Chris feel uncomfortable, so he does his best to dodge answering her when she asks him questions. I want to know if she has a habit of asking her students personal questions about their parents because honestly she shouldn't be doing that and to me it speaks to grooming in a way that makes me pissed off."
Daniel scowled and pulled out his cell phone to make himself a note and then put it back in his pocket. "I will look into Ms. Ana Flores tomorrow, bro, and if anything seems off to me I will not only let you know, but I will let the school board know as well. No teacher should be asking personal questions about a students parent especially in such a way that it makes said student feel uncomfortable around them. There is no way in hell that any of us are going to let her make Chris feel uncomfortable when we are able to put a stop to it. I would also suggest that you talk to Eddie about one or both of you talking to the Principal at Durand about having Chris moved out of her class, so that he doesn't have to deal with her when school resumes. My gut feeling on this is that she has a crush on Eddie and thinks that now would be a good time to make a move and if that is the case then it goes against her contract and she can and will be fired for that. No teacher should ever date a students parent because it is unethical and just plain wrong. She really shouldn't be trying to use Christopher to get an in with Eddie and once Eddie finds that out there will be no way in hell that he would ever let it stand anyways, so obviously she is completely fucking stupid. I mean seriously what kind of parent is going to be alright with someone using their child to get to them just so that they could possibly date said parent?"
Phillip snorted and then snickered from where he was putting the sheets on Chris' bed. "Margaret would date one of her kid's teachers if she thought that it would get her something. Then again she would date anyone who could possibly do something for her since she no longer has access to any of my money or property. She is lucky that I actually bought her a one bedroom house to live in when I left her since she signed a prenup before we married. I did enjoy though making sure that it had only the bare necessities instead of everything that she wanted. She is able to work and she still had some money in a trust fund that one of her grandparents left her, so it isn't like she is destitute. She only has to live within her means and she still won't have to work a day of her life if she chooses not to do so. I think that she has finally got it through her thick head that no matter what she thinks she deserves that she isn't going to get a penny from me. I do know that it took her paying two different lawyers though for her to understand that she doesn't have a leg to stand on when it comes to me not giving her any money. They also pointed out that I didn't have to buy her the small house that I did, but that I was generous and bought it for her anyways so that she would have a roof over her head. I did however take the car as payment for me buying the house, so she had to buy herself a car and it wasn't the newest one on the lot either."
Buck snickered. "Yeah, Margaret contacted me a couple weeks ago asking for money and I told her that the only way I would give her any money was to have a binding magical contract drawn up that she would pay me back in a certain time frame. Her parents left Daniel and I their money because of the way she treated both of us, so I don't see why I should go against their wishes and give her their hard money and I told her just that. I also wasn't going to give her any money that I got from dad's parents because they specifically stated in their will that none of their money was to be given to Margaret because she doesn't know how to be a decent human being. They left her a small amount of money and it is still being held for her, but since she refuses to see a psychologist like it was stated in their will to make sure that she was healthy mentally she isn't able to touch it. I did take great pleasure in reminding her that she has one hundred thousand being held for her in a trust if she would just go and see a psychologist like they suggested. I am sure that you can imagine what kind of tantrum she threw when I suggested that she do just that if she didn't want to sign a magically binding contract to pay me back any money that I loaned her."
Daniel threw his head back and laughed because he had pretty much said the exact same thing to Margaret when she had called him and asked him for money the other day. Once he had himself under control he looked at Buck and smirked. "Great minds think alike then, baby brother, because I pretty much said the same exact thing to her when she called me and asked for some money a couple days ago. I wonder why she accused me and you of conspiring against her and now I know why. I have no clue why she thought either of us would give her money after the shit she did and said to us while we were growing up, but then again she's never been in her right mind I don't think. I am almost positive that she ended up with postpartum depression after she had Maddie and it was left untreated and instead of getting better it has just gotten a lot worse as the years passed. She thinks that she deserves everything when she hasn't put any work in getting anything that she wanted and she'll eventually regret that because with the way that she spends money she's going to end up having to work for a living if she wants to be able to keep buying the shit that makes her happy. Eh, it isn't our problem and she'll learn that she has no one to blame but her damn self eventually."
Buck sighed and shook his head. "I know that I should probably feel bad or at least slightly guilty about the fact that I am happy that she is reaping everything that she has sowed, but honestly I think that I am happy that I feel happy about that fact. I know that she deserves everything that she is getting, so I don't see why I should have to feel bad even in the slightest that she brought everything on herself with her words and her actions. Why should I have to give her money or buy her anything when she didn't even spend money on me when I was growing up? She constantly bought things for her and Maddie and even Daniel, but she never once bought me something unless someone mentioned that it was weird that she wasn't getting me anything like she did for Maddie and Daniel. The thing is though that even the times she did get me a little something she always made sure that I knew that I didn't deserve it and that if I did one thing wrong in her eyes that she would take it away from me."
Phillip scoffed and his eyes hardened. "Margaret had no right to threaten you with taking anything away since the money that she spent on getting you things was my money. I reminded her more than once that if I caught her not getting you anything that I would cut her off because I wasn't going to have it. There is a reason that I was the one who ended up taking you shopping most of the time and it was that I knew that she couldn't be trusted. It is also why I started limiting how much she was allowed to spend daily and I kept track of how much she spent and where it went. I lost count how many times she bitched and complained about the fact that I would no longer let her spend money one every single thing that she or Maddie wanted, but I was tired of her being unfair to you boys and I made my stance on the matter perfectly clear. If Margaret couldn't spend money on you or Daniel like she spent on Maddie then she didn't need to spend a damn penny on Maddie. I also made sure that Maddie's allowance wasn't any higher than yours or Daniel's because I was tired of coming in and hearing her brag about the fact that she always got what she wanted and that she always got more money than either of you. Once I found out how much more she was getting I made sure that you both got more money than her by that exact amount for the next six months and that you got a hefty amount added to your savings account that she didn't get added to hers. I wasn't going to stand around and let her get everything that she wanted and then listen to her taunt you both with the shit that she didn't deserve. Honestly, I am pretty damn sure that is why she left like she did because she knew that I was getting close to my breaking point.
"Unfortunately, for all of us Maddie is Margaret's daughter through and through which is why I am putting my foot down, Evan, about you paying for anything that Maddie wants. The one thing about Maddie is that at least she works unlike Margaret so she shouldn't need for you to constantly give her money or pay her rent for her. If Maddie is ever going to grow up then she needs the chance to do so without having you or any of us to fall back on. She is still young enough that she should be able to change her ways without too much trouble for once. However, I am not holding my breath that she will grow up because if she was going to then she would have done it years ago. She has had all the same chances as you and Daniel, Buck, and she chose to squander them away instead of actually taking those chances and making something of herself. Now, where exactly do you want Christopher's bed placed, son?"
Buck looked around and then pointed out where he wanted it. "I would like it to be placed in the middle of the room, but up against the wall that doesn't have a window on it. I know that by being on the second floor that it would be harder for someone to get into Chris' bed in the middle of the night, but I'd still rather be safe than sorry. In fact, I will be having a motion detector placed on that window, so that I and everyone else will know when it is opened by someone."
