Chapter Text
August 5th, 2:23pm 2038
Connor opened its eyes to a room full of people in Cyberlife uniforms. It was in a sterile white room with a table off to its left. The table had numerous unrelated objects on it, one of which was a type of pistol.
“RK800 state your name for us. My name is Anne, I’ll be doing most of the talking.”
“Hello, my name is Connor,” it said, adjusting its tie to fit snuggly around its neck.
Two employees looked at each other before one of them wrote something down in their notepad.
“Good. We have some tests for you to complete. Start by sampling the substance in this container. We need to make sure your forensic equipment is working properly,” Anne said, gesturing to the beginning of the table.
Connor walked over to the folding table and stopped once it was in front of the substance. It dipped its index and middle finger into the substance which was jelly-like before bringing it up to its mouth.
“Tell us what the compound is and what it is made of, including the ratio of its components in weight.”
“I have identified the substance to be napalm. It is made of 20% benzene, 43% polystyrene, and 37% gasoline.”
“Good,” Anne said before scribbling something down in her notepad, “sample the next one.”
Connor shifted to its right and moved on to the next substance, this one a bright blue in color.
“I identified this one to be Thirium 310. It consists of thirium and various preservatives ranging from nitrite to benzoic acid.”
“Ok, good. Last sampling test for today.”
Connor moved to the last container on the table before placing its fingers into the red substance.
“Finally, I identified this to be the blood of a human male, aged 36 named Sebastian Michaelis, type O+. May I ask what became of him?” Connor asked as it turned to face the lead researcher.
Anne glared at him briefly before returning to her notepad and responding, “No, it doesn’t matter. Your job is to do as we say, not ask questions.”
“However, my function is also to aid the human race. I simply wish to know if the subject is doing alright. This is a rather large quantity of human blood,” Connor said glancing back at the container.
“Enough. You are not to talk back got it? I said it doesn’t matter so drop it,” Anne snapped, fully looking up from her paperwork.
“I understand,” Connor responded, folding its hands behind its back.
A few of the researchers towards the back of the room murmured amongst each other before they were silenced by Anne.
“Moving on, pick up that pistol over there,” Anne said, motioning down the table a bit at the weapon. Connor ignored the pop-up that appeared in its field of vision about how it was illegal for androids to handle guns.
As Connor collected the gun, three human-shaped targets rose through slits in the floor. Each one was a different distance away and they all had a red bullseye in the head area and heart area.
“Show us how good your aim is.”
Connor raised its arms at the targets as the researchers in the room maintained a safe distance from the line of fire. In rapid succession, Connor landed a hit to both the center of the heart and the brain on each target before lowering its weapon.
There were a few people who whispered things of shock before Anne began speaking again. “Good. You were created to hunt deviants and bring them in for questioning and disassembly, so you should never have to use this programming, but I was told to include it.”
“Finally, you will have to identify each of the four biocomponents at the end of the table. This is to make sure you are familiar with them in case you need to reactivate a shutdown android in the future.”
Placing the gun back on the table where it got it, Connor began listing the names of the biocomponents laid out on the table.
“This one is an A754h optical unit from a VX500, this is a 8451 thirium pump regulator from a JB300 android, this one is a 6312t right leg component from a AF200, and finally this one is a 4807 audio processor from a GT100 model.”
“Very good. That is all for today’s testing, tomorrow there will be more physical challenges. Jacob, if you can lead the RK800 back to storage that would be great, thank you. Alright everyone, pack it up,” Anne said before leaving the room. Immediately, other researchers began to talk amongst themselves as they cleaned up the items on the table and the targets on the ground.
“Alright RK, you’re with me,” Jacob said as we walked out of the lab, gesturing for Connor to follow him. He was a tall man with the sides of his hair closely shaved and the top the beginning of a grown-out buzzcut.
Upon leaving the room, they entered a long hallway with sets of doors on both sides. The hallway was just as white and sterile as the room they had just come out of aside from a fire extinguisher on the wall. They veered off to the right twice before coming face-to-face with an elevator. Jacob pressed the down arrow before reaching into his pocket and digging out a coin. He began to flip it up and down in his hand and Connor watched with a strange sense of… almost fascination.
The elevator dinged and Connor and Jacob stepped into it, Connor making sure to stand slightly behind Jacob. The elevator brought them down to the basement level where Connor stayed in between testing. As they continued their descent, Jacob began doing more intricate tricks with the coin, such as rolling it gently across his knuckles.
Once the door opened, Jacob exited with Connor close behind him. He led them to a dark storage unit that was specifically built to keep Connor’s model. It was the smallest storage unit they had in the basement, as there weren’t any other versions of Connor in existence. Jacob opened the sliding door and gestured for Connor to walk inside. It did and stood perfectly in the center of the unit facing the door, ready to be told to enter standby.
“Alright. Good work today, Connor. You can enter standby now,” Jacob said with a small smile. It was the last thing Connor would see until it was summoned for more testing.
