Shattered Glass

Summary:

Shoto moves in with Katsuki and Izuku, thinking those two were just roommates. Hilarity ensues? This started out as a goofy silly idea, and then when I actually started writing a plot, I ended up with something much more traumatic and deeper than I originally expected.

This will have an end, probably by the end of December 2025 at the latest.. I am almost finished with Broken Wings. There will be stories later from the same universe, just different perspectives. Following planned projects, in no particular order:

* Cracked Gemstones
* Fractured Minds
* Gravitational Pull
* Lightning Strikes
* Stuck to You
* Dark Water
* Feedback Loop
* Legacy or Honor
* Blood and Snow

Have fun guessing which stories will be about which heroes.

Chapter 1: The Arrangement

Chapter Text

Shoto
───. ݁ ˗ˏˋ ⊹ ˎˊ˗  ࣪ ˖───

The skyline was beautiful this time of night. The setting sun was throwing colors of pinks and purples across the high rise apartments from the rooftop that Izuku was perched on, watching the streets below. He sat on the ledge, dangling his feet over the edge, and ignored the feeling of ruby colored eyes watching him. He didn't even need to look at him to know that Katsuki was staring at him. He leaned back on his hands, tilting his head back, and closing his eyes, letting the last heat of the evening warm him a little for a few moments. The sound of traffic and people slowly floating up to them. It was peaceful, and he let himself relax into the quiet of it all.

Katsuki was annoyed, he hated when Izuku sat on the edge of the building. Sure, if he fell, he'd be fine with float or blackwhip, but it still made him anxious. He shoved off the wall he was leaning against and started to walk towards him when the sound of someone landing on the rooftop near them startled him. He tensed and had his hands up, palms forward, reflexively before he spotted red and white hair and realized it was Shoto. Gray and teal eyes stared at him, eyebrow raised curiously. Katsuki muttered a curse under his breath. "Damnit Icy-hot, I almost blasted you!"

Shoto shrugged at him, "Sorry, I just saw you two from across the street, thought I'd say hi before your shift is up."

Izuku glanced over his shoulder at them before pushing his hood off of his head, exposing green curls that still caught Katsuki's attention even in the low light, distracting him for a moment. "Hi, Shoto, how has your patrol been so far?" Izuku asked, smiling softly at their friend, ignoring Katsuki's outburst.

Shoto shrugged, "Nothing so far, might be a quiet evening tonight. Are you two going home soon?" he asked as he looked down at his feet, shuffling a little.

Katsuki scoffed, "Well now that you've said the 'Q' word, you're in for a fun night, you idiot."

Izuku chuckled, "Kacchan, be nice, it could still be... uneventful for Shoto." He paused, studying their friend for a moment, "Are you okay, Sho?"

"Just tired of living with my dad, he's overbearing and trying to run my life, but you guys don't want to hear my problems. I just need to move out already, just trying to save up for my own place," Shoto shrugged again while sighing.

Emerald eyes met ruby ones and an unspoken conversation seemed to dance between them for a moment before Izuku stood up, dusting off his gloved hands and walking towards Shoto. "You know, we have a spare room at our place, if you need somewhere to crash until you get your own place."

Shoto's eyes shot up to look between them, "No, I couldn't possibly impose, I don't want to take up your space!" he protested, as Izuku took his keys out of his pocket, slipping a key out of the group.

"Tch." Katsuki scoffed again, "If we had a problem with it, Deku wouldn't have offered."

Izuku gently placed the key into Shoto's hand. "If it gets to be too much at your dad's place, just come by, you know where the spare room is in our place. Even if we're asleep, don't worry about it."

Shoto stared down at the key in his hand, turning it over against his palm before he slowly nodded. "Thanks, I doubt I'll use it, but thank you, it means a lot to me that you guys care." He knew they had a decently sized place, and he had crashed in the spare room before after a night of drinking. He wasn't sure where Bakugo or Midoriya's rooms were in the house, he'd only seen the main areas and the guest room that he always woke up in after falling asleep on the couch a few times. He wasn't positive how he'd get in there, but he always felt safe at their place.

Katsuki checked his watch under the edge of his glove before stretching and bumping his shoulder against Izuku. "Hey it's time to clock out for us, I promised Deku I'd cook dinner for him, so we're going to head out."

Izuku gave him a mischievous look "Promised? More like lost a bet when we were sparring earlier."

Katsuki narrowed his eyes at Izuku, "Shut it, Deku!" He then turned to Shoto, "Don't be shy about staying with us, Icy-Hot, we do have the room. I'll make extra and put it in the fridge if you decide to come by tonight. You can heat it up when you get off patrol if you're hungry. Can't have you passing out on patrols or something from not eating."

Shoto nodded and watched them bicker as they waved and jumped down from the high rooftop. He couldn't help but wonder how their house was still standing with as much as they fought all the time. He wasn't sure why they even decided to move in together, but the rising costs of rent and housing probably had a lot to do with it, and Midoriya was already working two jobs, while Bakugo always took on extra shifts for patrols.

His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of shouting below, seems some villains decided robbing a nearby store seemed like a good idea. He sighed before using his flames to jump down to the street level to get to work.

By the time the sun was rising, he was dead on his feet. "Maybe the 'Q' word was a bad idea," he muttered to himself. The night had definitely been eventful, seems villains were out in full force, one after the other. He trudged back to his dad's place, and quietly shuffled in the front door, slipping his shoes off at the Genkan.

"Oh good, Shoto, you're home." His dad stepped into the living room. Shoto sighed to himself and resisted the urge to roll his eyes. "Have you considered what we talked about yesterday? I think this arrangement would be good for you-"

Shoto turned to glare at him, finally hitting his breaking point, "Dad, you cannot seriously be still trying to convince me to agree to a quirk marriage."

Enji Todoroki narrowed his eyes at his son. "I know you haven't really had a relationship ever, but this would be good for you. Right now, you're only number three on the hero charts. If you ever want to beat your rivals Dynamite and Deku, you need to train harder, or just have a child that can eventually surpass them."

Shoto could feel the heat steadily rising in the room as his father looked at him with disdain. "Yeah, because a quirk marriage worked out so well for you and mom." He turned and attempted to walk to his room, he thought things with his father were getting better, but it seems him ranking in at number three has ramped the bad behavior back up again. He could feel the angry heat rolling off his father down the hallway at this point.

"Shoto, as long as you live under my roof, you will at least try to become the top hero, and you will go on this date with this girl and attempt to make that relationship work!" His father was seething as he followed him.

Shoto turned to look at him, masking his emotions in a look of boredom. He stared at his father before finally responding "All right."

Enji stared at him in surprise. "So you'll finally stop fighting me on this?"

Shoto's mouth turned up in a brief smirk, "No, I just won't live under your roof." He responded, flatly, before stepping into his room to pull out a suitcase from his closet and started carefully placing his clothes into it. The temperature outside his door was steadily increasing, but he continued to ignore his father while he packed his things.
