Chapter 1: The Guardian That Has To Protect
Chapter Text
"Guys, are you excited for the next two weeks?" Kirishima asked, the whole of Class A had gathered in the common area, sitting and discussing their upcoming trip, and what they would do, and bring, etc.
"Yes, of course we are!" Izuku cheers, his enthusiasm contagious as fired up, excited chanting brakes out throughout the group, making it look like a bunch of rounded-up drunkens. "We deserve a break after that war."
"Yeah, especially you, Bakugo!" Kirishima exclaims, attempting to motivate his scowling friend. But he just shrugs it off as his efforts emerge fruitless. "Whatever, I guess I'm just happy to get away from here for a bit. I still don't see why it has to be Otheon, though?"
"Are you kidding?" Denki yells. "It's obviously so Midoriya can see his lover- Rody Soul." He teases, making kissy faces.
Izuku blushes, "H-he's not- I- I don't like him-"
Katsuki clenches his fists so tight, his knuckles turn white. 'Damn bastard fell in love with a stranger. Idiot.' He thinks.
"Okay, guys. We should all get packed." Kirishima, noticing Katsuki's reaction, speaks up before something can start. Everyone nods, getting up to go pack, and Katsuki continues to get angrier.
"Have none of you dumbasses packed yet??" Mina opens her mouth to say something, but the blond cuts her off. "Hurry up and go fucking pack. We leave tomorrow, morons." The others shakes their heads, heading to their rooms in silence to go finish packing. Katsuki sits back on the sofa, throwing his head back in annoyance, glaring up at the ceiling.
Izuku is an idiot. Falling head over heels for some bastard he barely knows, does he have no self-preservation?
Katsuki has to protect him.
"Alright." Aizawa concludes, scanning over the register again, making sure everyone named was there. He runs it by Present Mic, and Midnight, who notice the absence of one child.
Aizawa groans, not surprised yet still annoyed. "Where's the problem child?"
"He's hauling his luggage. The idiot overpacked." Katsuki answers simply.
"Of course you'd know, Bakugo" Mina teases, giggling.
"Shut up, Raccoon Eyes. I'm not surprised your dumbass didn't hear him." Katsuki retorts through gritted teeth.
"Oh? So he's struggling and you aren't helping him?"
"Not my fault he's unprepared. I've got more important shit to do."
"Unprepared? Didn't you just say he overpacked?"
"Yeah, the moron overpacks when he's rushing. He doesn't ever know half the shit he throws in his bags."
"Of course you know his habits."
"I suggest you shut your mouth before I blow your ass to hell. I've known him over a decade, quit making it weird."
"Okay, Blasty. I was just kidding, chill out." She starts having another conversation with someone, and before Katsuki can tell her to keep her damn mouth shut next time, Izuku walks over, dragging his suitcase behind him, with about six different bags hanging from the handle and Katsuki storms over.
"Damnit, did you pack your entire dorm, or something?"
"N-no, K-Kacchan." Izuku responds, clearly out of breath.
"Sure fucking looks like it." Katsuki huffs, grabbing it out of his hand. "And sure feels like it. Jesus, Izuku. What the hell is in this?"
"I- I can't remember... Just everything I thought I might need, I guess."
Katsuki just shakes his head as he puts his luggage away with everyone else's.
"Now that everyone is here, I'll say again. We are not stopping. Airports are difficult enough to navigate and that alone will take about an hour. We aren't wasting any time. Do I make myself clear?" Aizawa instructs, as everyone filters onto the bus.
Tsuyu, Ochaco, Mina, Jiro, Kirishima, Sero, Tokoyami, Iida, Yaoyarozu, Hagakure, Izuku and Todoroki all nod at their teacher; Katsuki crosses his arms and rolls his eyes.
But of course there was always one: "What if we need the bathroom?" Kaminari asks.
"You can go before we leave." Midnight responds, sensing her colleague has already had enough.
"But I don't need it now."
"Then hold it, dunce face." Katsuki snaps.
Before Kaminari can argue further, Present Mic announces: "ALRIGHT THEN, LITTLE LISTENERS!" Once he is sure he has everyone's attention, he continues, "Room assignments."
The class groans. "Why?" Someone calls.
Someone else yells, "Can't we choose our own?"
"Nope!" Present Mic answers. "We've decided on them, since we know there are people here who would rather sleep on their own." He says, looking at Katsuki, who is staring angrily out of the window. "And we don't have enough rooms booked for that."
Aizawa takes over, which immediately tells everyone this isn't going to be good. "The pairings will be as follows, Yaoyarozu and Hagakure, Iida and Tokoyami. Uraraka and Asui" So far, so good.
"Mina and Jiro, Kirishima and Kaminari." The boys look at each other, their shoulders slumped, whilst the girls look at each other with unreadable expressions.
"Sero and Todoroki." Todoroki nods respectfully, but doesn’t say anything, his face would have remained blank if it wasn't for the faint smile on his lips. Sero smiles, blushes and looks away.
"Bakugo and Midoriya." Katsuki's attention snaps away from the window at that, and he’s about to argue when Aizawa cuts him off. "If you have any problems, deal with it."
What? Izuku would get to share a room with Kacchan? Having the proximity he'd always wanted, especially now that they were friends, and not always arguing. This would be nice, this would be really-
Wait.. how?
His chest felt tight, and he got butterflies simply passing him in the corridor. How was he supposed to share a room with him??
Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if Izuku switched with Kirishima? It would be possible since it wouldn't throw off the maths, and Kirishima and Kacchan are also best friends.
"Oh, and no switching. We'll know~" Midnight added.
Great. Izuku knows he just can’t let his feelings get in the way.
Katsuki, on the other hand, is completely lost. It is a nice thought, he guesses. Sharing a room with his friend. But he feels something foreign to him, too. So he plasters on his signature scowl, even though he isn't quite sure what he is upset about.
He knows he has to protect Izuku, and this is a perfect way to do it. He would listen to him ramble about his day- With Rody. And he would just ask what he'd been doing- With Rody.
That idiot. Katsuki is so angry. How could Izuku still be in love with someone he met last year, and barely even knew?
But surely he should be used to Izuku's idiocy by now, but still. Sometimes it seems more like willful ignorance. Once again, he has to save Izuku from himself and Katsuki is fucking furious.
Great. Katsuki knows he just can’t let his feelings get in the way.
"Okay. Is everyone in their assigned seats?" Aizawa calls, walking down the aisle of the plane, nodding at each child, when suddenly he pauses. He groans, a sound of resignation yet frustration as he glances at each side of him.
"Kaminari. Ashido." He says simply, meeting their eyes as he says each of their names.
"Hello, Aizawa-sensei." Mina greets over-politely, wearing an innocent grin.
"Heyyyy, Aizawa-sensei." Kaminari echoes, mirroring Mina's feigned ignorance.
Aizawa groans again. "Why can you not just follow simple rules?"
"Please, sensei. Please just let us sit here." Kaminari pleads, putting an arm around Jiro.
Mina gives him puppy-dog eyes as she grabs Kirishima's hand, joining in with Kaminari.
"No. Move"
Their shoulders slump, but they move nonetheless, and Aizawa continues down the aisle (ignoring their mumbling). Once he is satisfied, he takes his seat beside Present Mic.
But just before takeoff, as the teachers are all facing away, they switch again, so the couples could sit together again. Kirishima and Mina intertwine their fingers, as Kaminari wraps his arm around Jiro.
About halfway through the flight, Aizawa decides to get up and check on the students again. They are being quiet, which is never a good sign. Usually, at least. He sighs, seeing Kaminari and Mina had switched seats again.
Ashido had fallen asleep laid back in her seat, and Kirishima was dozing off beside her, as they held hands.
Kaminari had fallen asleep on Jiro's shoulder, an arm draped around her, and she had put earphones in, one arm around him as she stares out the window.
He sighs again, but decides not to disturb them, this time.
Sero is quietly reading, a relaxed smile on his face as he occasionally glances at the sleeping boy next to him. Todoroki had fallen asleep, laying his head on his shoulder .
Everyone else is quietly doing their own thing, except for two people...
Midoriya and Bakugo.
They are sat so close to each other that their legs are almost crossing together, their arms pressed together as Midoriya's head rests on Bakugo's shoulder, as Bakugo lays against Midoriya's head.
As Aizawa goes back to his seat, his face remains stoic and stony, and he would never admit this, but the sight of his students finding comfort, peace, and love in one another after the war is nice. The sight of them like that, was almost...
Cute.
When they arrive at the hotel, they are all given their room numbers in the lobby, and shown to the corridor where they are staying.
Everyone is reminded of their pairs, and they all split to go to their rooms.
Izuku and Katsuki walk down the corridor towards their room in silence. It is neither comfortable, nor awkward. It is just.. silence.
Katsuki unlocks the door and swings i
t open, still clearly angry after their.. trip. They were not cuddling, obviously, but still, Izuku had been close- too close.
"Oh shit."
There's a problem.
A really big problem.
Chapter 2: ‘I know what you like, but that doesn’t mean anything!

My friend Crazy4_.Katsuki_.and_.Izuku had this amazing idea for a fic, and I get the honour of writing it with her!
Chapter Text
Katsuki unlocks the door and swings it open.
"Oh shit."
Izuku steps into the room to see what the problem is. "What- oh"
Katsuki immediately throws his luggage to the floor, turns on his heels and storms down the corridor to the teachers room.
"What the shit?!"
"Bakugo." Aizawa says patiently, yet with a hint of warning in his tone. "What's wrong?"
"Did you do this on purpose or something? Do you think this is funny?" He rages, ignoring his teacher's warning.
"Bakugo." Aizawa repeats a little louder, and more firmly. "What's wrong?"
Katsuki groans in frustration, gesturing for his teacher to follow him. Once they reach what is supposed to be Katsuki and Izuku's room, he points.
Aizawa gave him a look, as if it was obvious, which only made him angrier. Katsuki forces the words through gritted teeth. "What the fuck is that about?"
“Yes, I know,"Aizawa says matter-of-factly. "It’s the same for everyone else, that’s why we paired boys with boys, and girls with girls."
"If you planned that, wouldn't it be better off if you let everyone pick who they shared a bed with?" Katsuki says, his voice strained as he tries to hold himself back from punching someone or something.
"No. Because as we already said, there would be certain people, not to name names, who would refuse to share rooms with anyone. We couldn't afford to get extra rooms."
Only then did either of them realise Izuku's hand was gently holding Katsuki's wrist, as if trying to hold him back somehow.
Aizawa walks away when Katsuki freezes and goes silent, and Izuku doesn't say anything either.
Katsuki flicks his wrist, making Izuku let go, as he glares at a fixed spot. He storms into the room automatically, looking almost robotic.
"Don't fucking touch me, nerd."
The teachers decided to check out the cafe in the hotel, knowing of the student's caffeine addiction. Once they found out there was one on site, the place would be rich.
But honestly, they needed something. After dealing with these students on a 17-hour journey, they definitely needed a coffee too.
Aizawa nods at a table in the corner, which Midnight and Present Mic go sit down at whilst he goes up to order.
He stares at the barista blankly, yet with a hint of concern. Something about her...
"Hi." He says, looking at her name tag before adding, "Emily."
Her smile widens a little as she looks at him. "Eraserhead, right? God, I see a lot of pros here, but I have to say, you're my favourite, and it's an honour to meet you, and I just-" She cuts herself off with a laugh, sounding slightly nervous. "Sorry, haha, I'm rambling. What can I get you?"
Aizawa's initial suspicion shifts as he smiles slightly. "Uh, can I just get a black coffee?” He says groggily, obviously still stressed. "And a mocha, and uh... A latte with extra sugar?"
"Yeah, of course." She responds, making the drinks. She looks up at him. "You seem tense."
He shrugs in response, before going to sit with the others.
She brings over the drinks, setting them down. Aizawa immediately takes a sip, his shoulders relaxing. "How much do I owe you?"
"It's on the house." She smiles, handing him a napkin.
"Thanks, Em." He smiles at her, and he doesn't even realise what he's said until he sees the looks he gets from his colleagues.
Where did that come from?
But he couldn't stop smiling, and he was more relaxed than usual. Something about her...
What is in this coffee?
He looks down at the napkin, and it reads: emilyytheweeb on TikTok, DM me ;)
That night, nobody can be bothered with anything as they all settle into their rooms... Or rather, in Katsuki and Izuku's case, tolerate it.
Katsuki walks back into the room and throws a piece of paper onto the bed, which Izuku immediately picks up and reads out loud, his voice tired and confused.
Katsuki rolls his eyes, "It's the number for room service, nerd." Izuku stares at him for a moment before understanding dawns on his features.
"How do we know what food they make?"
"I already got it, dumbass."
"But-"
"Because I'm not an idiot." Katsuki says simply, standing by the bed and staring out of the window, his voice quiet. "I know what you like."
"Huh?" Izuku responds absentmindedly.
"I said I know what fucking food you like. I'm not an idiot."
"Ah, okay."
Izuku hums to himself, seemingly deep in his thoughts as the blond turns to face him, his eyes softened with exhaustion. Travelling was tiring, even for Katsuki.
"What?"
"What what, Kacchan?"
"What're you thinking about, nerd?" He asks, plopping down on the bed beside Izuku. He crosses one leg over the other, putting his hands behind his head.
Izuku blushes slightly.
"Just about tomorrow." He smiles.
Katsuki frowns. He has a feeling he knows where this is going, and he doesn't like it. "What about it?"
"I'm thinking about texting Rody tomorrow about-"
There it is.
"I really could care less about that extra." He snapped, cutting him off. "And quit going on about him constantly. You talked about the fucker all the way here."
Izuku didn't get a chance to respond because at that moment, their food arrived. They're given their plates, sitting on the bed as they eat, since there was nowhere else to.
Katsuki, obviously, has a bowl of spicy ramen, simply enough.
But Izuku.. Izuku has katsudon. He stares down at it, something foreign and unreadable in his expression.
"What?"
"You got me katsudon?"
"Something wrong with it?"
"No, nothing, kacchan."
"Then fucking eat it, and stop complaining, dumbass."
"I'm not complaining, Kacchan."
"Then what?"
"It's nothing."
"So eat it. Before it goes cold, and then you will fucking complain."
"Okay, Kacchan."
Truth is, Izuku knows Katsuki would have gotten something Izuku liked. But katsudon was his favourite. And Izuku only remembered mentioning that once. The fact Kacchan had remembered made his heart flutter and his blush deepen.
After they'd eaten, they put their plates on the nightstands on each side of the bed before laying down.
They each stay on each side of the bed with enough space between them.
Too much. Izuku craves him closer.
Not enough. Katsuki craves his personal space.
So why, as he drifts off in bed beside Izuku, is his heart racing?
The next morning, Katsuki wakes up finding he feels like his heart is going to beat right out of his chest. Why did it feel like that? He turns onto his back, finding not only Izuku in his bed, but also incredibly close.
His breath turns heavy with something akin to panic for a second, before his memory floods back in. Him and Izuku would be sharing a bed for the next fortnight, and Katsuki didn't have any choice.
Would he get this feeling every morning? Every time he saw Izuku like this, at peace? Blissfully at peace and so beautiful?
Fuck. He has to get out of here.
But he finds that he doesn't want to. To move, to not see Izuku looking so…
Yeah, this is bad.
He forces his body to get out of bed, to the bathroom, where he gets washed and changed before looking in the mirror and wondering if he had, in fact, gone crazy overnight.
His heart is still racing, quickly, too damn quickly. His palms were sweaty, and yet, he hadn't set off an explosion, thank fuck since he would've hurt Izuku.
Why is his chest aching at that thought? Why is it making him feel so sick?
Wait… he hadn't set off an explosion, right?
Racing back into the room, he scanned the bed for any scorch marks or anything that would indicate his quirk had been set off, and luckily found none. But that relief doesn't last, as his eyes land on Izuku's sleeping form again, and his heart starts to race.
So in the hopes that it'll quiet the pounding in his chest, he leaves to go get breakfast.
Izuku wakes up, turning over and almost falling out of bed. Great. He turns back over and flops back down onto the pillow. He’s been conscious for all of two seconds and this morning was already going…
Wait.
This room, it wasn't his room. This bed, it wasn't his. The pillow, it smelt different. He closed his eyes as he remembered.
Kacchan.
The pillow smelled like Kacchan.
Oh right. They were on a trip. Him and Kacchan were sharing a bed, but..
Izuku opens his eyes again and looks around, seeing that Kacchan isn't in the room. He also notices that he’s on the other side of the bed.
Would Kacchan have already gone to breakfast? Probably. Especially if Izuku had been too close when he woke up.
Sighing, he glances at the clock: 10:42. He should probably get up now, as he didn't wanna waste the day, but something about the scent lingering on this side of the bed, so endearing, so inviting…
He almost falls asleep again.
So he forces himself to get up instead, in a stubborn refusal to waste the day when there's something he wants to do.
Midoriya
Hey, do you want to meet us at Cherry Blossom Paradise hotel?
Rody
Sure, what time?
Midoriya
Just whenever you can
Rody
Yeah, of course. See you soon
‘Kacchan seemed almost.. jealous that I was talking about Rody so much yesterday.. So maybe it would be funny to get his reaction if I spend the whole day with him’
Izuku goes downstairs to see Kacchan standing by the table behind a plate of food, despite the bowl in his hand that he was eating from.
He has that classic ‘dont talk to me’ look that he usually wore in the mornings. Izuku half expected to see him with a cup of coffee, like most of the others had, and like he did most mornings. But as Izuku walks closer, he sees him eating a bowl of fruit.
Huh. Kacchan only really started his day with fruit when he was in a good mood.
Izuku smiles, happily concluding that this trip is what made him so.. Cheerful. Well, cheerful in a ‘Kacchan way’.
He sits down in the empty seat beside Kacchan, and before he can put his head down, a plate is being held in front of him.
“Hm?” Izuku hums curiously, looking up to see Kacchan putting a plate in front of him. Izuku had thought it was his, but as his tired eyes focus, he realises it’s a plate of pancakes. “Thanks, Kacchan!”
But Kacchan doesn’t answer, doesn’t even look at him. Pancakes. Izuku's favourite. Somehow Kacchan knew his favourites, even though he had only mentioned them once or twice.
Izuku could see the ghost of a smile tugging the corner of his lips upwards, but that soft expression vanishes as-
“MIDORIYA! HEY!”
-Rody walks in.
Izuku turns around to see who was calling his name, just to see the one person he couldn’t wait to see. Kacchan, on the other hand, looks murderous, his demeanor quickly changing.
Izuku stands, running over to the fucking extra and Katsuki's mood sours as he stares at the stack of untouched pancakes in front of the now empty seat. Whatever. It's not like it meant anything.
“RODY HEY! Oh my god, it’s been so long!”
“It really has Izuku! I’m so happy to see you again!”
“Come I want you to meet everyone! They’ve been so excited to meet you!”
“I can wait to meet them as well.”
Izuku grabs Rody’s arm and drags him over towards where his group of friends are sitting around the breakfast table in the canteen, where they still had loads of different breakfast foods out for all the guests to enjoy.
Izuku is so excited to see Rody again after all this time that he doesn't even eat the food that Kacchan got for him.
That really hurt Katsuki, as he was never nice to anyone but Izuku!
Izuku didn’t even realise that something was off about Rody: Pino… WHERE WAS PINO?
