Chapter Text

Marie lays comfortably on the couch curled up to Remy as they read together her naked breasts pressed against his bare torso. Marie has become accustomed to being naked while home, but today Remy is allowing her to wear a floor length silk robe with the belt removed. He isn't expecting any visitors, but as they are sitting in the living room today, he wants to make sure she has something to cover herself with, the silk belt folded on the coffee table in case it's needed.

Marie is just about to drift off to sleep in the arms of her captor husband when the doorbell rings. She startles awake as Remy tosses the book on the floor and scrambles off the couch. Marie immediately reaches for the strip of silken fabric on the coffee table as she stands and arranges her robe to cover her body. Before opening the door, Remy looks over his shoulder at Marie to make sure she's covered herself, her naked form is for his eyes only. Once he sees that she is appropriately covered, he opens the door to their unexpected guest.

Remy opens the door just enough so that his body completely obscures the opening. Marie, noticing his back is to her, stands on her tiptoes to try to see their guest. Whomever it is must either be short or standing somewhere the door still blocks as she's unable to see who it is. She settles back onto her feet and hesitantly approaches Remy and the door, her curiosity getting the better of her. “Who are you and what do you want? You don't look like you're sellin’ somethin’,” Remy says in a silver tone. The voice that growls in response to the question hits Marie like a ton of bricks as she had convinced herself she'd never hear it again. “I'm lookin’ for a friend of mine. Her name's Anna-Marie, goes by the name Rogue. She's got curly auburn hair with a streak a white. My sources say she's here and my nose confirms that. I can smell her. She ran away a few months ago while I was gone. Been lookin’ for her since I got back last week.”

Marie is paralyzed by sudden fear. The life she ran away from was suddenly wanting her back. It's the exact person she thought would notice her gone and would look for her. The only person from that life who would understand why she wanted to sign up for that medical trial, why she would want to get rid of her powers. The only father figure she's ever had. “Logan?” she whispers, barely audible to normal ears, but perfectly clear to Logan's super-senses. She wants to run to him, to shove Remy out of the way and to give him a hug. She wants to sob into his shoulder and tell him all about her abduction, rape, and repeated assaults, but she knows if she does, Remy would punish her.

Remy turns to look at Marie, “You know dis man?” He opens the door wider and Logan charges into the house. She stands there paralyzed by fear; fear of her old life and fear of consequences from her new one. Tears start to form in her eyes as she stares at the only two people in her life who have ever cared enough to search for her when she went missing. She's tempted to go with Logan back to her life at the Institute, but she doesn't want to go back to the bullying and teasing associated with it. Her life here in Louisiana has been good since she learned to stop fighting against it. She's grown used to being treated as a possession and used as a sex toy. She no longer resists the demands for sexual contact, finding it to be a more enjoyable experience if she actively participates.

“I asked you a question, Marie. Do you know dis man?” Remy says in that silver tone, but she can also hear the threat of punishment implied in his words. As much as she enjoyed getting spanked by Remy, she did not enjoy the bruises it caused. She opens her mouth to say yes, but her fear keeps her from speaking, so she nods yes instead.

Logan cautiously approaches her, recognizing the signs of trauma that she is trying desperately to hide. He places his hands on her biceps and looks up into her eyes as he starts to sniff the air around her. He uses his thumb to wipe away a tear from her cheek and he grumbles, “You're afraid, darlin’. I can smell it.” He takes a deep breath through his nose, “He's hurt you.” He takes one last sniff, “He also got you pregnant.” The look on Logan's face changes from concern to fury. He steps back and Marie winces when she hears him growl and deploy his claws as she knows too well the violence that will come next. She's played out this moment in her head multiple times, though she thought of it less and less recently.

“Logan! Don't! Please!” she begs still glued to the spot where she stood. She's torn between wanting to see her abuser punished and wanting to keep the peace. She's torn between the love she has for her husband and her desire for freedom. She also had no clue she was pregnant. She knew she missed her period, but it was normal for that to happen, it's why she took the pill; the same pill she hadn't taken since her kidnapping. The realization that she's carrying Remy's child hits her suddenly and it hits her hard. All those times he raped her mixed those times she complied with her assault and enjoyed it, never once did he wear a condom and every time he finished, it was inside of her.

She sinks onto the floor weighed down by her thoughts and she starts to sob. She and Remy had talked about starting a family, but she didn't think she was ready. Here she was suddenly confronted by the outcome of her assaults, pregnant by the man who abducted her, the man she learned to call her husband, the man she was still learning to love. She wonders which encounter got her pregnant. Was it from before she learned to stop fighting or was it from the time after, from the times she gave in to her physical attraction and actively participated? She then wonders what kind of life the child would have in the guild. If it's a boy, he would be treated as a king, but what if it's a girl? Would she be subjected to the same abuse? Would she also have to endure captivity and subjugation? She hasn't had much contact with the women of the guild. The few times she spoke with Remy's stepmother, Blanche, had been under supervision by both Remy and Jean-Luc. She remembers asking Blanche if she liked her life in the guild, if she was happy. She remembers the fear in Blanche's eyes as she said yes; the look of domination Jean-Luc had given both of them after the question had been asked. And soon after Robert was banished, Belladonna disappeared. It was rumored that she used it as her chance to escape her own captivity. The guild may have guaranteed that she would want for nothing after Bobby's banishment, but her desire for freedom must have been stronger.

She's suddenly brought back to reality by a yank at her neck. She hears Logan growl, “Get this thing off her neck!” She suddenly realizes her way out. She looks down to see that Logan still has his adamantium claws bared. With the dampening collar, she's no longer invulnerable to Logan's claws. She grabs his wrist and before he can react, she shoves his claws into her throat. Both men sit in shock as her blood starts to flow out of the wounds on her neck. She coughs and gurgles as her body fights against death. She feels hands on her neck fumbling to get the collar off as she starts to feel her life slip away. The weight on her neck is suddenly gone and just as her vision is about to go black, she's confronted by Logan's memories of returning to the Institute to find her missing. She sees him begging Scott to have Jean use Cerebro to find her because he knows something is wrong. She feels the wounds in her neck start to heal and she realizes her powers are back and she has absorbed Logan's memories and his healing factor. A smile comes over her face as she realizes that for the first time in months she can fight back.

Chapter Text

Seconds after Anna-Marie realizes she is free from the collar and can finally fight back, she lunges at Remy's throat. Logan moves to hold her back, but realizes that there's no stopping her. Upon touching Remy's skin, she's confronted by his memories of her captivity. She watches from his point of view as she is “trained” into being a “wife.” She realizes that despite the abuse and rape, he feels love for her; a love that's beyond romantic. She realizes that he views her as his friend, his best friend. She's sent further back into his memories to a childhood full of bullying due to his eyes and the fact he's an orphan. A sense of being unwanted permeates everything until Jean-Luc takes him in and even then there's doubt. She connects with this as she felt the same until she found her way first to her mommas, Raven and Irene, then to the Xavier Institute and even then she felt like an outcast. Despite this connection, she next lifts Remy off the floor by the neck, placing him on his feet. He looks at her with fear in his eyes and she delights in the fact that Remy is now feeling what she has felt all these months. Once she is satisfied that he is standing unassisted, she punches him in the stomach. The force of the punch sends him flying out of the open door and into the front yard. Unaware of the blood covering all three of them and that her robe has opened, she steps out of the house to further confront her captor.

Logan stands in the doorway beaming with pride at the young woman he had come to rescue. He knew something had to be wrong for her to just disappear without a trace. Yes, she was a runaway when he met her, but Logan knows she was too much of a rogue to be tied down for very long. He hurries down the front steps, unsheathing his claws as he joins Rogue on the front lawn. He knows she doesn't need him to fight for her, he's ready to fight with her if needed. Logan kneels next to Remy, retracts the middle of his claws on one hand, then firmly plants the other two in the dirt on either side of Remy's neck. “Just say the word, darlin’ and I'll either release him or kill him. It's your call. This is your fight, I'm just here as backup,” he says with a sneer.

Rogue smiles at Logan, grateful for him taking a supporting role and even more grateful for him coming to her rescue. For far too long she had been raped, abused, and tortured by the man he was currently pinning down. It was his turn to feel the fear she had felt when she woke up in that basement months ago. She smiles down at Remy, enjoying the fear she sees on his face. She kneels on top of him, placing her right shin directly on his bare torso. Upon touching his skin again, she feels his powers and memories flowing into her. She next shifts her weight backwards removing pressure from his chest and adding pressure to a more sensitive area. Logan notices her adjustments and winces but does not judge her for it. Remy groans in pain beneath her weight and strength as she crushes him under her ankle. He's about to yell out for help when she covers his mouth with her hand. She smiles as she watches his eyes go wide with terror as he realizes she is doing to him what he did to her for months. She also realizes that despite the skin of her hand touching his face, he's still conscious and she doesn't feel his life force, memories, and powers flowing into her. Rogue reaches her free hand up to her neck to check for the collar; it's gone. She laughs maniacally as she realizes that she can finally control her powers.

Rogue looks up from Remy and notices curtains moving in nearby windows; she's drawn an audience. She wonders how many of those hidden eyes had also endured torture and abuse at the hands of the men in these houses. She hears a door slam nearby and she doesn't have to look to know it's Jean-Luc, Remy's adoptive father and leader of the Thieves Guild, coming out to assist the man he calls his son. “C’EST QUOI CE BORDEL!” Jean-Luc yells as he races over to where she has Remy pinned. She looks up at him and glares. Rogue stands to face the man who raised Remy and taught him that abduction, rape, and abuse were normal. Once she's on her feet, she makes sure to unleash a powerful kick aimed directly at Remy's balls. She barely looks down when he groans in pain from the kick. Logan and Jean-Luc both wince in sympathetic pain for Remy as she takes a step towards Jean-Luc. “Logan, you can release him. Ah think he'll be down for quite a while,” she says while staring down the father of her abductor. Logan retracts his claws and he stands besides Rogue ready to fight if needed.

“Give me one reason why ah shouldn't kill all y'all. An’ don't say it's because y'all gave me a home when no one else wanted me cause this man right here,” she points to Logan, “is proof Ah have a home an’ that Ah'm wanted. He did not have to come here to help me, but he did,” she yells as her voice breaks and angry tears roll down her face. She reaches out and grabs Jean-Luc’s arm intent on absorbing some of his memories. As she watches both of Jean-Luc's wives' so-called marriages and training, she realizes in horror that this has gone on for generations.

A scream of terror snaps Rogue back to the present. “DAT BETTAH NOT BE MUH REMY'S BLOOD!” Blanche yells as she approaches Rogue and Logan. Rogue looks to the ground, still disoriented from absorbing Jean-Luc's memories and sees Remy is curled up in pain and Jean-Luc is unconscious next to him. It's at this moment that she realizes Remy is covered in blood. She looks down at herself, she's also covered in her own blood from her suicide. Her robe has also come open and she's naked, covered in blood, with two men at her feet, and a third man standing ready to defend her if necessary. She looks up at Blanche, “I…I…it's muh blood. Ah… Ah…” she stutters. Tears fill her eyes and she starts to laugh. If she hadn’t just lived through it all, she would think it's the plot from a bad horror movie. “It's mah blood ‘cause,” she laughs. “‘Cause Ah tried ta kill myself because ah’d rather die than live here. Ah’d rather DIE than have this man’s child,” she points to Remy. “He's covered in mah blood because he followed your stupid tradition. Because he didn't think ah’d marry him if ah wasn't drugged, kidnapped, and tortured like you were and others before us! COWARDS!!!!” she yells. “ALL Y'ALL ARE COWARDS!!!!” She drops to her knees laughing uncontrollably.

Logan, no stranger to trauma, kneels next to Anna, “Let's get you inside, get you cleaned up and dressed, darlin’. I'll take you back to New York when you're ready.” She looks over at Logan and asks, “Who took the collar off me? Ah don't remember much after…” Her voice trails off and she starts laughing again. Logan helps her to her feet, “He did.” Logan nods his head towards Remy. “When he saw you dyin’, he panicked. The look on his face was like he couldn't imagine life without you. Strangest thing. Never seen anything like it, and you know I've seen a lot.”
