The SK-03 Orbital Station has been without contact with ground control for 291 Sols or 299 Earth days. But Park Joonsang watched whatever black hole opened up and swallowed his home planet whole, so he’s not expecting an answer back any time soon.
He’s not worried about survival as he’s got rations for the team of ten sent up here, and Joonsang is the only one still alive.
After watching mother Earth implode on itself, they held onto hope but when something goes wrong in space, the consequences are almost always fatal. And the hole that opened up in their galaxy had let off strange waves of radiation, making most of them grow sick. They were throwing up blood and losing hair the first few weeks, and the station’s doctor was overloaded, eventually falling ill herself. He witnessed many fade away like that.
Something went wrong with people’s minds too, as even the most hardened and experienced of their crew started to flinch at shadows and hear things that weren’t there. Joonsang watched helplessly on the cameras as one of their team opened up an airlock without a suit on, all to run from an imaginary monster.
They fell one by one, and now he’s the only one left trying to keep SK-03 from falling apart. Sometimes it is difficult for him to remember why he keeps clinging to life, but he didn't make it this far just to kick in the bucket now. He takes care of the maintenance work meant for ten all by himself, keeps all the systems updated so the station doesn't go offline, and does all of the menial janitor work, too.
And if Park Joonsang happens to hear knocking from outside the hangar door he’ll ignore it for as long as he has to.
