Summary:

A sorta PJO AU of Pokemon

Ash has been to 6 regions in the last 3 years, went on 13 quest and has saved the world countless times, this time he’s in Alola, it was only ment to be a vacation but Arceus and the Fates had other plans for their Chosen One. At least he has his girlfriend by his side, and the Legendary ain’t to bad here.

Ash son of Zeus, and Serena, Daughter of Apollo now get to chill in Alola, or do they? Because there’s a new prophecy and guess who’s at the center of it?

Guardians/Gods - Ancient trainers that teamed up with Legendary Pokemon to help them out. Gifted w/Immortality and abilities that embody their partners. Also known as Gods.

Demigods- The children of these Guardians. They live - eventful - lives and are often the topic of Prophecies. They also have the possibility to inherit one of their parents abilities These children are also known as ‘Half-Bloods’ due to the fact that one of their parents is a Guardian.

Legacies - Legacies are similar to Demigods, but they don’t have to be related in any way to their Guardian. Sometimes a Guardian will take a liking to a Pokemon Trainer or another Demigod and choose to adopt them. Legacies don’t gain any abilities from but can occasionally ask for blessings to aid them.

Protector - Sometimes for one reason or another, a Legendary won’t have a Guardian. In instances like this a Mortal will step up and be deemed their Protector.

Kahuna - Kahuna’s are specific to the Alola region and derived from Island Chiefs who were allowed to speak to the Tapu’s. As time went on the names changed from Island Chiefs to Island Kahunas since the Tapu’s began choosing who would run their islands next.

Prophets/Oracles - These are certain people chosen by the Guardian of Solgaleo who have the ability to speak prophecies or snippets of the future. These can be Mortals, Legacies, or Demigods. Kahuna’s are also notified of any prophecies given.

Pendants - Items given to Demigods, Legacies, Protectors, and Prophets/Oracles. These are clear physical signs that a Guardian has claimed a child, adopted a champion or that a Legendary has picked a protector. These pendants are carried around with them at all times, especially on quests.  

 

Quest-Kits - Care Packages made by the workers at the camp, to give to residents when either going back home or heading out on a quest. Very similar to Trainer starter bags but specially packed for each Demigods. You usually get one every summer, or every quest. They contain a med kit, (fit with items needed for possible stitches) along with Ambrosia, a sanitation kit, flare, matches, miniature self care, and snacks. These bags will also vary from Demigod to Demigod as they all don’t have the same needs.

Serena let out a heavy breath as she held her pose, Delphox standing to her right with Sylveon and Pancham to her left. After a few minutes she took her bow along with her Pokemon and they walked off stage. 

“Serena!! Girl you did amazing out there!!” Lisia congratulated her as she passed by, “Oh also here,” she handed Serena her phone, which was still vibrating with notifications, “It’s been going off for a few minutes, must be really important.” She continued. Serena curiously took her phone. 

“Thanks, Lisia! And good luck on your performance!!” Lisia nodded and the two walked off in opposite directions. 

 

Serena grabbed a water and took a seat backstage, letting her Pokemon rest beside her as she curiously opened her phone. She saw multiple messages, all from Satoshi, she huffed out a sigh and quickly read through the messages he’d sent, along with the ones he was still currently sending.

Ash sat around with Pikachu waiting for Serena’s flight to come in, his mom had gotten up a bit ago to grab them some snacks. Serena’s flight was only an extra 30 minutes to the eight hour flight Hanako and Ash took. Pikachu was looking out the Airport window, watching as the planes came and went. Ash sat on his phone, sometimes snapping a picture of Pikachu, and other times scrolling through the camp notices. “Satoshi dear! I got you pb&j while we wait!” “Mime! Mime!”

 

“Thanks mom! Thanks Mimey!” Hanako took a seat next to her son as they waited.

Ash got up immediately, after closing his phone “Mom! Mom! She’s here!!” Pikachu ran and jumped up onto Ash’s shoulder. “Pika Pikapi!” He squeaked out, nuzzling his trainer's cheek.

 

Hanako chuckled at her son's excitement, “Alright alright, slow down dear!” 

 

The mother and son walked with their pokemon to the terminal. Ash, still beaming with excitement, caught sight of Serena as she was walking over. She waved from a distance, all she had with her was one luggage, a backpack and her pokeballs on a belt. “Satoshi!!” She called out, running over to where Ash and Hanako had been. 

 

“Yvonne! It’s lovely to see you again dear!” Hanako welcomed. 

 

“Pipika!!” Pikachu added as he jumped from Ash’s shoulder to Serena’s.

 

Serena nodded, “You too, Ms. Ketchum! And thank you for letting me tag along!!” Hanako waved her off.

 

Afterwards, everyone made their way out of the airport. Ash was beaming as Serena talked about her last contest, Hanako had let the two know that they’d stop by the resort to drop off their bags then head out to the beach for some a bit before heading to the Pokemon School.

“Should we tell Hau we’re here?” Ash questioned as they all made their way to the beach. 

 

Serena thought for a moment, “Hmm, isn’t he currently in Paldea? He shouldn’t be back for another month or two at most.” 

 

Ash deflated slightly but quickly recovered, “Wow! Paldea!! That’s awesome! I can’t wait to hear all about it when he returns! It’ll be so exciting, right buddy?” 

 

Pikachu, who was chasing Sylveon and Pancham, looked over “Chaa!” it exclaimed, before going back to playing with the two show pokemon. 

 

Serena laughed, “I’ll race you to the water!” she yelled, taking a head start.

 

“Oh You’re on!!” Ash shouted back as he raced after Serena.

“No, look out!!” was all Serena heard from the opposite side of the track, she yanked onto Ash’s backpack, leaning over the fence to pull him backwards as a few Taoros came rushing through. 

 

A girl with green hair pulled the reins on her Taoros, “Stop! Stop it, Taoros, come on!!” 

 

A blonde girl wearing a white sun hat, and a matching white dress, came rushing over to the two, “Are you two alright?” 

 

Both Serena and Ash nodded, “It’s alright! We’re both fine!!” Ash exclaimed. 

 

Serena took to sitting on the fence instead of fully climbing over, “Was that a Taoros race?” The blonde girl nodded. “That’s so cool!!” she nudged Ash, who smiled back at her, “Might have to try that while we’re here!” 

 

A Taoros came walking over to greet Ash and Serena, Ash laughed as he gave it some head pats. The blonde girl, however, quickly backed away, “Pika?” Pikachu asked, the girl shrieked as she stepped back again. 

 

“Hey, you’re kinda acting like you’re scared of Pokemon.” stated Ash, curiously. 

 

“I am not! I love Pokemon! At least…from a research point of view” 

 

The green haired girl approached them, hand resting on her neck, “I’m sorry, you two came out of the forest so quickly like that,,,I didn’t have time to stop.” 

 

The two trainers weren’t even able to get a word in on how that was fine, before another kid spoke up, “Thing is Lillie can’t touch Pokemon.” Ash and Serena looked at each other and nodded, so the blonde girl was Lillie, good to know. 

 

Lillie continued to defend herself, “I can touch them! Theoretically that is…if I really, really, wanted too. I just choose not to!” 

 

“Don’t fret too much about it, I’m sure you’ll be able to touch them some day!” the green haired girl reassured Lillie as she walked over towards them, a blue haired girl following behind. 

 

“Hey!” Ash called out, “You were the one I saw fishing!”

 

“For bruxish!!”

 

“Lana, you know him?” The green haired girl asked, to which Lana nodded.

 

“Right!! I’m Ash Ketchum, from Masara Town!” Ash exclaimed excitedly. 

 

Serena jumped down from the fence, taking to just standing with the group, “I’m Serena Gabena, from the Kalos Region!” She introduced herself, the rest of the group followed with their introductions, Lillie, as stated previously, was the blonde girl, Lana is the blue haired girl, Mallow was the green haired girl, and Sophocles was the shorter ginger kid.

“So, what brings you two to our Pokemon School?” Mallow questioned as she walked the two foreign trainers through the school.

 

“Me and my mom came here for vacation and to deliver something to the Principal.” replied Ash. 

 

“I just tagged along for fun.” Serena stated. Mallow nodded, “What Pokemon is that by the way?” Serena inquired. 

 

Mallow hummed in return, turning to face Serena as she walked, “Ah, it’s a Bounsweet! She’s a grass type from here in Alola! What about the two of you?” 

 

“I bring Pikachu everywhere I go! I usually don’t bring anyone else with me, even when traveling.” Pikachu nodded in agreement. 

 

“I just came from Hoenn so I still have my performance team, which is Pancham, Sylveon, and Delphox!” Mallow didn’t quite know what Pokemon Serena was talking about, only knowing of Sylveon, but looked excited nonetheless.

 

The group continued to chat for a while until they made it to Principal Ōkido’s office. Upon opening the door they were greeted by none other than Hanako. “Oh! Thank Arceus, you too made it!” 

 

“Mom?!”

 

“Hi Ms Ketchum!”

 

Delia opened the door wider allowing all three kids to come in, she led them all to the couches. “Oh I’m so sorry, I forgot to introduce myself,” she said to Mallow, as they all sat down, “I’m Hanako, Satoshi’s mother! It’s lovely to meet you dear!” she gave Mallow a warm smile.

 

Mallow looked at her confused but nodded and replied “Alola! My name's Mallow.” 

Ash cut in, “she was just showing us around the school!! And it’s SO cool!” Hanako laughed as her son continued to talk about what they’d seen so far from the school. She had a feeling he’d like it here. 

 

After Kalos, more specifically the Crisis, Hanako noticed her son starting to close himself off, he didn’t go to camp that year, and Hanako didn’t push him too, he did still call his friends, but he was content with staying close to home for a while. Hanako spoke with Serena’s mom, Primula, to get more details on what happened but she was just as lost, especially with her own daughter's decision to move to Hoenn. After that dead end she’d gone to Kojiro and Musashi, they provided her with more details and from there she’d been able to piece it together. She didn’t like what it came to. She didn’t like the way fate had a way of twisting to put her son in the middle of any crisis, and any prophecy. For once she wished the World, and the Legendaries and Guardians watching over it could save themself for once. 

 

She was happy to see her son laughing and getting all excited for a new region. She was also glad that Serena was by his side, ever since meeting as kids, those two had been tied by the hip every summer. When Ash called before the Kalos League Finals to tell her the two of them were dating, she was overcome with joy, she and Primula called later that day talking about their babies and how they were all grown up.

Ash and Serena were off again, following Mallow through a tour of the rest of the school. And it wouldn’t be an adventure if there wasn’t some type of “evil” organization trying to steal Pokemon, sure Team Skull is more of a simple gang, but nonetheless still trying to steal Pokemon. Ash ran down there to help, Serena and Mallow in tow with the regional professor/Mallow’s teacher, Professor Kukui, rushing with the group. 

 

The battle itself was over quickly and they got to see the kid that was being harassed by Team Skull, Kiawe, using a Z-Move.

 

“Woah!! That was awesome!” Ash exclaimed, rambling on about how cool the short battle was. 

 

“What type of Z-Crystal is that?” Serena asked, stepping forward. 

 

“It’s a Firium Z” he said sharply, “How do you know what a Z-Crystal is?” he interrogated after. 

“Ah, well, my sister got a Fairium Z a while ago! Her and my other sister share their stories from here quite often!” 

 

“I thought you said you’re from Kalos? Why would your sisters be here?” Mallow asked.

 

“Oh, well they’re my half sister…sorta. From my dad’s side, though Big Sis is adopted, but still my dad’s side. I live with my mom in Kalos.” Serena explained.

 

“Yeah! Her sisters are the best!! We see them every year at camp!” agreed Ash.

 

“So you guys already know about Z-rings and Z-Crystals then?” the professor asked, earning a nod from both kids.

 

“They’re so cool! Watching Mini use her Z-Move is all wooosh!! And, then both of them just click and bam!!!” Ash animatedly described to the group

 

Serena nodded and laughed, “Mini and Rimbombee’s Z-Move is so pretty!” Professor Kukui laughed excitedly at the duo’s enthusiasm

 

“Satoshi! Yvonne!”

 

Hanako rushed towards Ash and Serena, “ Are you dears alright? I heard there was a commotion! You two aren’t hurt right? Oh, Satoshi, I hope you didn’t get into too much trouble!” She looked over the two, making sure both were uninjured. 

 

“Satoshi? I thought you said your name was Ash?” Sophocles asked.

 

Serena turned to Sophocles as Hanako continued to fret over Ash, “Oh! Ash’s Kantonese name is Satoshi, but he’s been going by Ash since..” she looked back at Ash, “It was your main journey through Unova, right?” 

 

“Yeah!!”

 

“Right, then yeah, he started going by Ash in Unova, made it easier for people to pronounce.” Serena finished. 

 

Lana looked at her with curiosity, “So then what about Yvonne?” 

 

Serena smiled at the question, before diving into another explanation, “My Kalosian name, some people have trouble pronouncing it, so I go by my middle name, Serena! Have been for years!”

The group nodded thinking about the different names. 

 

Hanako sighed, gathering the two kids, “Well we should get going, wouldn’t want to be late for our dinner reservation!” Just like that Ash’s stomach rumbled, everyone laughed and Ash bashfully joined in. They said their goodbyes and departed.

Serena closed out of the group chat and sat Satoshi’s phone down next to his new Z-Ring. She walked back over to her bed and went to sleep, tomorrow would be a fun day.

The duo woke up a few hours later, bright and early, heading down to have breakfast, “Good morning, dears!” Hanako walked towards the two’s table. “What're you two doing up this early? Satoshi dear, you never get up this early?” 

He took a break from inhaling his food, “We’re gonna go see Mini and Acerola today!!” 

Hanako gave him a fond smile, taking his hat and ruffling his hair, before placing it back on his head, “Well you two have fun! And be safe, I mean it.”she replied sharply, before continuing in her normal tone, “Tell them I say hi, as well. I’ve got to run my own errands today.” 

Serena looked at Satoshi’s mom curiously, “Errands? I thought you guys only had to give Principal Ōkido the egg?” 

Hanako just smiled and waved her off, taking her leave.

 

“You know, your mom can be really ominous sometimes..”

 

Satoshi just shrugged, “It’ll be fine, sure i’s just some camp stuff, like talkin’ with the Kahuna's ‘n’ stuff” he said in between bites. 

Serena laughed fondly and shook her head, “You’re gonna end up choking if you keep inhaling your-” Satoshi just continued, “never mind…” she gave him a fond look as she went back to eating as well.

Serena stood on the pier with Satoshi, looking over the sea. He looked hesitant to go out on the boat, as a son of Zeus he’d always been better in air then sea, something to do with Zeus and Poseidon’s beef. Not to mention the sinking of the S.S. Anne, or nearly drowning during the Shamouti and Manaphy quest. Needless to say he didn’t have the best of luck at sea.

 

“Hey,” she started, “how about we try one of those ride Pokemon instead?”

 

 Satoshi smiled and laughed, “Whaddya think bud?” Pikachu rushed over, Sylveon playfully following from behind, “Pika-Chu!!”

 

“Well then, let’s go look for some!” She took Satoshi’s hand, as they ran off to go look for some Pokemon they could use to get to Poni Island. Sylveon and Pikachu followed beside them.

Hanako’s phone rang, once, twice, “Hanako, good evening! Or well, I guess good morning for you!” Primula’s voice rang out over the phone. 

 

“Prim! So glad you could pick up! Good evening, to you!” she leaned against the armrest while she sat in the Pokemon-cab. 

 

“Is Yvonne doing okay?” Primula asked, “Nothing happened there right?” Hanako laughed lightly in reply.

 

“No, no nothing besides a Legendary sighting, and Yvonne is being such a dear, as always! Though I do think Satoshi is ready to head out on another adventure!” 

 

“That’s great, girl!! Not that I don’t love our catch up calls, but I must ask, what’s with the call? It’s your vacation!” she questioned her friend.

 

“Oh, well you see, Alola has this Pokemon School. Satoshi and Yvonne took a tour yesterday, while I talked with Yukinari’s cousin. And..would it be okay if I enrolled Yvonne into the school with Satoshi?” the otherside of the phone went quiet, “Prim?”

 

Primula took a shaky breath, “They’ll be going to a normal school…”

 

“Yes, no half-blood training, no gods, just a normal education.”

 

“No traveling, camping, and surviving?”

 

“I’ll try my best to see what I can arrange with the school, from what I’ve seen online, they do boarding for special cases.”

“They’ll get to be normal kids? Both of them?”

 

“Yes, Prim,” she chuckled bitterly, “as normal as they can be.”

 

Primula let out a heavy sigh, “Yeah, yeah that’d be good.” she laughed, “Now, what did you say about that legendary? Any gods we should be worried about?”

 

The Pokemon-cab came to a stop and Hanako got off, making her way up the road to the school. “No, no gods to worry about, all the legendaries for each island have Kahuna’s. But in regard to the legendary last night, let me tell you, it was hilarious!”

 

“Oh? Do tell, what’d it do?”

 

She laughed, telling her about the dinner, how Satoshi got his hat stolen, and how he ran off and Yvonne followed in a panic, by the time they’d returned she’d boxed up their dinner and had to-go bags ready. By the end of the story, they’d said their goodbyes, Hanako wished her a good night, while Primula wished her a good day.

 

Hanako looked over the school, they’d enjoy it here. Human and Pokemon side by side, even larger Pokémon that trainers tended to keep in pokéballs were out and about with their trainers. She walked in, noticing the amount of different Pokemon. There were a few she recognized from summers in Unova, but a few that she figured were specific to Alola. While on her walk to Principal Ōkido’s office, she noticed the kids from yesterday, all talking and laughing with each other, their Pokemon all playing together off to the side, she smiled and continued. 

 

For the first time in a while, Hanako thinks they’ll be fine.

Serena and Satoshi landed in Poni Island soon after finding a center that rented out ride Pokemon. The flight there wasn’t too long when riding on a Charizard, afterwards the two trainers sent their ride Pokemon back before continuing down Route 16 to Seafolk Village. The air had that same saltiness to it that the sea had, the Sun beaming down upon them, along the way they got to see many more Alolan Pokemon. Satoshi would yap about how cool all the Pokemon were and how exciting the new region was, Pikachu matching his animated rambling. Serena couldn’t help but smile fondly at her boyfriend, as she listened.

 

Mini told her stories late at night of Poni Island, of the Island Guardian, she remembered seeing her sister pray to both Tapu Fini, along with Kyogre and Poseidon before heading out onto the ocean. Serena questioned her about it one time, to which Mini explained that similar to Poseidon and Kyogre, Tapu Fini was the Alolan deity of the ocean, but also of how Tapu Fini saved her from drowning as a kid. She stated that her prayers to Tapu Fini were her way of thanking the Legendary.

 

As they walked down Seafolk Village pier Serena spotted a familiar figure. Her sister’s blonde hair and pink tips, along with her paint splattered all over her shirt, — some intentional, like flowers Serena painted with Roxie one summer — she sat on the pier with her canvas infront of her. It was Mini’s Ribombee and Whimsicott that noticed the duo and their Pokemon, the two ‘mons running — or flying — over to greet Sylveon and Pikachu.

Mina looked over to where her Pokemon had run off to, only to notice her little sister standing there with her boyfriend, “Yvonne? Ash? What’re you two doing in Alola?!”

 

Pikachu jumped down from Ash’s shoulder to greet Mini’s Ribombee and Whimsicott, Sylveon already greeting the two.

 

“We’ll we just wanted to come and say hi!” The two sisters met in the middle, sharing a hug. Ash waved to Mina, continuing Yvonne’s sentence, “Mimey won tickets here so we thought we’d stop by. We visited the Pokemon School yesterday!!”

 

Mina laughed, “That’s great you two! You guys thinking of applying?” Both kids nodded.

 

“Me and Satoshi were gonna head there after meeting up with you and Big Sis!” 

 

“No way, Acerola too!”

 

“Yup! Figured I might as well see both my sisters while I’m here!! I also figured you’d want to come with.”

 

“OkedyDokity, I’m coming with you two, sis!” Mina swoung an arm around Yvonne, “Lemme just clean up real quick. Then we can head out.”

 

Yvonne nodded and walked over to where Ash had been playing with the four ‘mons. As they waited there was a chime on all three of their phones.

Hanako had just finished talking to Principal Ōkido and the kids, soon-to-be, teacher — Professor Kukui — when she had gotten the Camp Notice. Her excitement for the kids dropped.

 

It wasn’t often that camp notices were sent to the parents and guardians group chat, usually the occasional — yet increasingly more frequent — prophecy or, on horrible and terrifying occasions, an M.I.A notice, telling of half-bloods that’d gone missing on a recent quest. She knew Alain had been the most recent one, Sycamore had been heartbroken over losing his son. The rest of the parents tried comforting him, but hearing your son had turned against everyone was probably something no parent could handle hearing.

 

She was still sitting in Ōkido’s office with him and Professor Kukui, as she read the prophecy. Oh how she hated how the Fates had its ways of twisting, just to have her son in the middle of it. 

 

Principal Ōkido understood the look on her face when she read her messages, he knew he’d be reading those messages later as well. They both looked at each other, then over to Kukui who sat there confused. If he was going to house not one, but two demigods while they attended this school, he deserved to know what he was getting himself into.

The boat ride to Ula Ula Island was quiet. It took a prayer from the trio to Poseidon, Kyogre, and Tapu Fini, in addition to calling Kasumi, to make sure they’d be safe on the waters. Mina was sailing while Ash sat with Serena. He hadn’t opened his phone again after learning both Alain and Lysander had still been in the group chat. He wondered how long the two just watched, silently. Serena held his hand, trying to comfort him, it helped but there was still a knot in his stomach about the prophecy. The Blinding One…what was that supposed to be?

 

Pikachu sat on his lap, “Pi pika Pikapi” he cooed, Everything will be okay Satoshi.

 

They continued their silent sail to Acerola and the Aether House.

Kukui stared back at Ms. Ketchum, “Wait, let me get this straight. The gods are real, they have kids-“

 

“And Yvonne and Satoshi, are two of those kids. Yes.” She nodded.

 

Kukui huffed out a sigh, this was not what he thought would be happening when Principal Ōkido called him in. He looked over to his boss who nodded at Ms. Ketchum’s — Hanako’s — statement. “Okay…okay. Why is this being brought up now? I already agreed to house them.”

 

There was an expression on Hanako’s face that he couldn’t quite understand, a mixture of worry and something else he couldn’t quite pinpoint, “My son has always been a…magnet per say, when it comes to this stuff. And as of today, it seems like that trouble still follows him. We just want to make sure you fully understand what you’re getting yourself into. I hate just dumping this onto you, but trust me, it’s better if you understand the dangers.”

 

“I agreed to house them. No matter what, I won’t change my mind. I may not fully understand this whole ‘Half-Blood’ ‘Demigod’ stuff, but I can assure you, I will do the best I can to keep those kids safe.”

 

She smiled fondly, nonetheless it was still painful, “That’s all I can ask for.”

 

They finished up the paperwork to have the two demigods placed as Kukui’s wards and arranged plans to all have dinner together.

Hanako looked back up from her messages. “Great, the children will be there for dinner.” 

 

She smiled, holding onto the crumbs of normalcy that were left. She turned to Principal Ōkido, “Thank you for agreeing to this meeting!”

 

He laughed, “Of course! Always glad to help a family friend!”

 

With that Hanako took her leave, Kukui following behind, still needing to head back to class. They split off after a while and Kukui walked back into the classroom, lunch just ending by the time he got back.

 

Lillie was talking with Mallow about some adjustments she could make to the Pokemon food she made, to have it be healthier, — Lana was sitting with them, asking a few questions on if it certain things would help improve the bait she used — Sophocles was showing Kiawe different battle simulators he made to help strategies. Lana was the one that noticed the Professor first.

 

“Alola, Professor Kukui!!” She said cheerfully, “Alola!!” The rest of the class followed.

 

“Alola class! I have some news!” He announced, earning a few ‘Oooo’s and whispers on it from the five kids. He continued “Starting tomorrow, we’ll be having two new students joining us!” A few small gasps were heard, Lillie raised her hand.

 

“Who will the new students be?” Asked Lillie.

 

Kukui grinned, “You guys have actually already met them!” They all looked at each other confused before letting him continue, “You guys remember the two kids that came yesterday? Well they’ll be staying in Alola to attend school!” Chatter amongst the kids broke out after that.

 

“That’s so cool!!!”

 

“Can’t believe Elio and Selene are missing this!”

 

“Hey Kiawe, you’ll be able to battle with Ash again!”

 

“It’ll be exciting to have another trainer at the school besides Selene!”

 

Kukui let the kids continue their conversation as he wrote the lesson for the rest of class. Today they’d be doing a lesson on Terastallization, it was a fairly new gimmick when it came to League Battles world wide, but had been used through the Paldea league for decades already. Despite Alola not having a League, yet, he still found it important to teach the kids about battling in different regions, in case they decided to travel as trainers.

 

“Alright, Alright, settle down, let’s begin our lesson!”

Prophecies were a unique case. Acerola had become the new Oracle of Delphi at seven, for five years she’d give out quest but nothing else, she was fine with that — with being the Oracle, since it came with Apollo making her a Legacy, for once, since Nanu bringing her to camp, she had cabin mates — Hades cabin had always been rather lonely since it was just her, but hanging out with Apollo’s kids was so much fun! Everything was good, she’d look after the kids in the Aether House for most of the year, and then would get to hang out with her sorta siblings every summer!! She’d met Ash a few times, especially with Yvonne being friends with him and that Gary kid. Around the age of twelve is when prophecies became more of an occurrence. She watched Ash get quest after quest after quest, each tied to a legendary or world ending event. It became an occurrence to call or message him after receiving each prophecy so she could try and help him understand it. They didn’t get to talk in person often, especially after he started his Pokemon Journey. She’d watched the Kalos Crisis happen, shadow traveled to Yvonne after to make sure she was okay, this time, she was going to help, she was going to protect her sister. 

 

She waited at the pier for Mina, Yvonne and Ash.

 

It took a whole half hour for them to arrive, she rushed to hug her sisters, pulling Ash in when she noticed him standing behind. Pikachu and her Mimikins were playing around with Ribombee, Whimsicott and Sylveon as they walked. The walk to Aether House was accompanied by the Pokémon’s cheers and casual conversation, it was a quick walk down Route 15. 

 

Acerola had set them up in the library portion of the Aether House.

 

“All~righty!” She walked towards a shelf and grabbed a few books, “‘A land of light shall give time to heal’” she recited, placing the books down onto the group’s table before walking away again to grab a notebook, “‘Two shall rise, the Sun and the Moon’, now this could be quite a few things, Apollo and Artemis, one of his kids and a hunter, or…” she sat back down with the group, “and this is probably more likely, Solgaleo and Lunala!” Acerola grabbed one of the books from the pile she brought over, flipping to a page that depicted the two Legendary Pokemon. 

 

Yvonne gave her a questioning look, “What about the first part? ‘Land of light’ and all that?”

 

“Well, Alola is known as the ‘Land of Light’ in an old legend, so it could be talking about that” Mina introjected.

 

Ash looked from the book, to Acerola, “But what about ‘time to heal’? What is there to heal?”

 

“Mina’s right! And for your question, it could be multiple things, you two healing from the Kalos Crisis — and don’t say you two are fine, Ash I know you freeze up even over messages when someone brings it up, and Yvonne you left pretty quickly to Hoenn afterwards!” She answered quickly before either of them could deny it, “It could also mean helping something or someone else heal. Prophecies aren’t always literal either, ‘Parallels of the past will be revealed’, it’s ominous but also rather straight forward…" 

 

She looked to make sure the group was still paying attention, Ash was writing notes, Serena leaning on him to watch, and Mina looking through more of the books, “..the rest of the prophecy is where it…not scares, but, I guess…concerning is the word. ‘The Blinding One will once again consume.’” 

 

She grabbed a book from a pile Mina hadn't looked through yet, opening it to The Legend of the Blinding One, “‘The Blinding One, also known as Necrozma, came to Alola, with Solgaleo and Lunala, to share its light, leaving soon afterwards. It returned a few centuries later, however, when it began consuming the Light of Alola. Originally the Tapu’s failed…’”  Ash and Yvonne both looked at her with wide eyes as she continued to read, “‘It wasn’t till the Sun and the Moon — Solgaleo and Lunala — joined the fight with the Tapu’s, that they were able to banish Necrozma and return the stolen light to Alola. The remaining light that Necrozma left behind turned into what we know as Z-crystals.’” She finished, closing the book and huffing out an exhausted sigh.

 

“Woah…Wait hold on! Does that mean I’ll have to fight Necrozma?!?” Ash exclaimed. 

 

Acerola shrugged, “Well let’s see, ‘Gather new friends, stand tall. They will fight alongside you, O Chosen One.’ Hmph! Guess you might.” 

 

Ash groaned at the thought of having to fight another Legendary. Yvonne laughed, “Shigeru was so right! Legendaries just have it out for you apparently!” Ash buried his head in his hands. 

 

Acerola noticed the Z-Ring on his wrist, an electrium Z already placed on it. “Ash, where’d you get that from?” He looked down at the cuff and crystal.

 

“Hm? Oh! Tapu Koko gave it to me!!”

 

Yvonne nodded, “We had bet cash ins and everything afterwards.” 

 

The two islanders looked at each other, then to the two trainers. “You..” Acerola began, she cut herself off and sighed, “Figures. You meet a Legendary and I immediately get a prophecy.”

 

“And this is why I stopped betting on you.”

 

Ash hid his face further into his arms, “Thanks, Mina…”

 

Yvonne patted him on the back, shaking her head fondly, “Oh come on Sato!”

 

All three girls laughed. This is what Acerola loved. She loved seeing her siblings act like kids. Lately, she’d been seeing kids at camp with looks that didn’t match their age. She’d seen kids break down, heard their cries. During the Kalos Crisis many half-bloods joined Lysander and Team Flare, after checking up on Yvonne she returned to camp. In all her years at camp, she’d never seen the sight so empty, so filled with sorrow. Half-Bloods comforting others whose siblings turned. 

 

But here, in this moment, she saw her sisters, she saw her friend. She loved them, and she loved seeing them safe. She’d keep them safe.

 

Acerola sighs, closing the book on The Blinding One, “Okay, let’s see. I’m sure the last lines I mentioned should be self explanatory, yes?” Ash nodded, so she continued, “Good! ‘Though the Sun might not show, beware the Nightfall. Make it through till the day is won’….hm, I actually don’t know. That might be something you’ll end up figuring out along the way.”

 

Ash hummed, “Riiiight…okay. Cool. Yeah okay, this is a good start!!”

 

She clapped her hands, “Perfect! Then I think we’re good for now!!” Mina and her began picking up the books, Ash ripping out the page he used and stuffing it into his pocket.

 

They all began to clean up, it was over quite quickly, their Pokemon joining them after playing. Soon enough they were about to say goodbye. 

 

“Oh! Oh my Arceus I almost forgot!” The group turned to Yvonne, “Satoshi’s mom-”

 

“My mom texted you?!?”

 

“Yes, anyways.” Yvonne continued “She wanted me to let you two know that you’re invited to dinner with us. We’ll be having dinner with Professor Kukui since he’ll be housing us while we go to school” 

 

“Sure I’m down to go, Ace, if you want you can sleepover and I’ll bring you back here tomorrow.”

 

“Oooo! Yeah I’m down for a sleepover!”

 

“WOO! Let’s get going then!!” Ash cheered, Pikachu joined his trainer, “Pika Pikachu!”

Hanako was already sitting at the table with Kukui, holding Rockruff in her lap, when the kids finally joined them.

 

“We’re here!!!” Ash announced. Pikachu stayed on his shoulders as the group all walked in.

 

Professor Kukui was quick to welcome the group. They all sat at the table chatting and eating dinner, Ash filled in his mom on the prophecy. Despite Kukui just learning about everything today, he took to it quite quickly and dinner went over pretty well. They chatted, shared camp stories with the professor and the two trainers talked about what they did outside of camp. Serena talked about how her performances had been, and ideas she wanted to test out, the topic of Ash’s Z-Ring was brought up as well, with Mina asking if he’d be taking the other Island Challenges to which he eagerly accepted. 

 

The night went by fast, Mina and Acerola left early while Kukui, Hanako, and the two kids finished discussing the living plan. Soon Serena and Ash went off to play with Rockruff and their own Pokemon, and Hanako was left at the table.

 

“There’s something I forgot to mention earlier-..” Hanako mentioned.

 

Kukui worried it would be another bombshell but then she continued, “There’s a group chat for us parents and guardians of Demigod children, I was just going to say it’d be easier to add you to that group chat.”

 

“Oh uh, yeah that would help.” He pulled out his phone, handing it to Hanako after pulling up his number. 

 

“Perfect! This’ll be a major help, for both of us. You’ll be able to keep me and other parents updated, and we will help you if you ever have any more questions or concerns!”

 

“Well then, it’ll be nice not having to Endure this situation alone!” Kukui joked, earning a confused look from Hanako, before just shaking it off. 

 

They wished each other good night, Hanako mentioning that her plain would be leaving early tomorrow, so the game plan was for Ash and Serena to hang around the island more — preferably with Mina and Acerola — before heading to the school to meet up with Professor Kukui and walk with him home. 

 

All in all, Kukui learned quite a few things tonight and still felt completely unprepared. He’d housed kids before, but two ‘Demigod’s? That was new territory. He knew Mina, he was her teacher when she attended the Pokemon school a few years ago, but he never noticed she was a ‘Demigod’, she said it was because Apollo kids weren’t high on the danger list. Not like Zeus’ kids, not like Ash. Paying closer attention to the kids, there was this certain readiness to them, like they were ready to jump into action at a moment's notice. He removed his hat, running his hand over his head. He was really doing this.

 

His phone went off minutes later. He couldn’t help but stare at the messages as they came in.

It was barely noon when the two demigods wished Hanako a safe flight. She gave her son a tight hug, making him promise that he’d be as safe as he could be, he assured her that he’d try. She’d given Yvonne a hug too, telling her the same as she told her son.

 

“You both call okay. Once every other week okay? And check in on your group chats! Don't worry the professor too much, and make sure to message Bianca about your questing bags!” She insisted, hugging her son a final time and giving Pikachu some head pats, “Watch after these two okay?”

 

“Pi Pikapi!”

 

“Now boarding. Flight number 606, Alola to Kanto.”

 

Hanako sighed, “Guess I best be on my way…” she turned to Mimey, “You ready?”

 

“Mime Mime!”

 

“Alright then!” She gave a final glance at the kids before giving both of them one last hug. “Stay safe you two…”

 

“We will mom.”

 

“The safest we can be Ms. Ketchum.”

 

They all separated, “Alright then. See you two eventually.” With that, final goodbyes were completed and Hanako and Mimey left for their gate. Yvonne and Satoshi now left with three and a half hours to do whatever they wanted before meeting back up with Professor Kukui at the school.

The rest of the day flew by. Ash and Serena had gone looking at common tourist spots on Melemele that morning, then headed to Ula Ula island to hang out with Mina till the school day was over and they could meet up with Professor Kukui.

 

By the time the two trainers got to the Pokemon School, class had already ended and a lot of kids were leaving for the day. As they waited the group of kids from the other day walked over to them. 

 

“Alola! Professor Kukui mentioned that you two would be joining our class, right?” Mallow asked, her Bounsweet jumping out of her arms to join Pikachu and Delphox. The group's other Pokemon joined them as well, Togedemaru rolling around Pikachu.

 

“Yeah we’re staying! This school is just so cool! Same with the local Pokemon!” Ash confirmed.

 

Serena nodded, “I wanted to learn more about some of the Fire Twirlers here. See if maybe I could learn a few techniques for Delphox!”

 

The group was intrigued by both their answers, their conversation continued till Kiawe spotted the Z-Ring on Ash’s wrist. 

 

“Where’d you get that? Last I’ve heard there haven’t been any island challenges this week.” He said roughly as he questioned Ash.

 

“Tapu Koko gave it to me!” Ash replied. The group remained silent for a while before erupting into multiple different voices.

 

“No way Tapu Koko?!?”

 

“Tapu Koko gave you a Z-Ring?”

 

“Woah! That’s so cool!”

 

Kiawe cleared his throat, “The island guardian gave you, not only a Z-Ring, but a Z crystal too?” Ash nodded in reply.

 

“We ended up talking about it over dinner last night, and Mina recommended me to do the Island Challenges. That way I can earn it.”

 

Serena soon interjected, “My sister told us the importance that Z-Rings have here.”

 

Kiawe nodded, satisfied with their answers, “Well then, let’s have a battle again soon.” Ash’s eyes lit up immediately “Oh you’re so on!”

 

The fire type trainer hopped onto his Charizard and said goodbye to his friends. Mallow spoke up soon after, “So! Since you guys are joining our class tomorrow, I was wondering if you’d all like to join our school group chat! Two of our friends are in that group chat but they’ve been out sick so you might not see them till next week.”

 

Ash and Serena agreed immediately, pulling out their phones and pulling up their contacts for Mallow to add them.

 

“Perfect! You two are in!”

 

Lillie’s limbo soon arrived and she was off, followed by Sophocles and Lana needing to get, and ending with Mallow needing to get to the restaurant, “We all best be going, see you two tomorrow!” She said waving to them as she walked away, Bounsweet back in her arms.

 

“Bye!!!”

 

“Have a good evening!!”

 

The two waited a bit longer outside till Professor Kukui walked out of the school and headed in their direction. “Alola kids!” He greeted, “Let’s head home!”

Kukui watched as the two demigods ran up to the porch of his house, two packages left on the doorstep. He knows he didn’t order anything online recently, so those two packages had to be something else. However both Ash and Serena’s faces lit up with excitement, once he got up to the door he saw that both items were shipped via something called Hermes Express. What.

 

“What’cha got there?” He asked, opening the door to welcome in the kids as he did.

 

The two kids lifted up their boxes, “Oh! These are our quest kits!” Ash answered as he and Serena walked in.

 

He closed the door after everyone got inside, Rockruff rushing up to greet the kids and their Pokemon. Ash and Serena placed their boxes on the coffee table. “Do you have scissors we can borrow?” Serena asked, Kukui nodded and went to grab them, returning after a minute.

 

“Here ya go!”

 

“Thanks Professor!”

 

She sliced the tape on the package, handing the scissors to Ash when she was done. Kukui was rather intrigued by the ‘quest kits’. “So what did you kids get?”

 

“Well it’s usually our backpacks, different from the ones we have. These backpacks have everything we’d need like a first aid kit, and the likes.” Serena filled him in.

 

“Oooo!!! Hilda and Hilbert included our weapons!!” Announced Ash as he pulled out a celestial bronze sword.

 

“Wait, hold one. What-?”

 

“Don’t worry Professor,” Serena said while taking out her bow and quiver of arrows, “it’s celestial bronze, so it’ll only hurt monsters, Gods, and other half-bloods.” She reassured him.

 

“Oh. Okay, sure, just uh- don’t use them in the house. Okay?”

 

“Okay Professor!”

 

“Sure thing Professor!!”

 

He was going to have to get used to this. The kid’s ’quest kits’ were more or less normal camping backpacks, Ash’s had a Ho-Oh feather attached to it, — and that just opened so many questions for him —, then both kids pulled out this pendant type necklace. Serena had one with Solgaleo on the front, upon asking she showed him and handed it to him to look at.

 

It was a simple pendant of Solgaleo, more like a dog tag than anything fancy. On the back were two symbols, one for Apollo and another for Ares. The rest of the necklace consisted of seven clay beads. Ash had a similar necklace, except his necklace had four pendants attached, the main one being Arceus, with a symbol for Zeus on the back. The other three were of Ho-Oh — which had Hera’s symbol —, Victini, and Lugia. Just like Serena’s, he had seven beads. Both kids explained that the beads represented a summer at camp.

 

The rest of the night was filled with Ash and Serena getting adjusted, picking which bunk they would get — Serena got top bunk and Ash got the bottom bunk —, and putting their stuff away and packing for school tomorrow morning. Kukui however, hardly got any sleep that night. He now had two Demigods under his care, and he really didn’t know what he was doing. So he spent the night researching anything he could on the Gods. He would try as much as he could with these kids, after hearing them discuss the prophecy at dinner the day prior, he added learning anything he could about ‘The Blinding One’.

About seven thousand miles away, in the Galar Region, Alain paced back and forth as he waited for Lysander and Malva. In his hand he gripped Uxie’s broken pendant, Athena’s symbol long since broken off. The camp beads were worn down, chipped and dirty. He looked over to Essentia, “Hey..uh Essentia, could you toss this for me?” 

 

She nodded silently, he handed her the pendant and she left to toss it. Alain had been fidgety since yesterday, Lysander berated him after he’d blown their cover in the group chat, — not that he thought it was a solid one, anyone could check who was there and notice them. Essentia returned after a few minutes, returning to her corner. He wasn’t sure where she came from, he knew Xerosic picked up some kid from the street for that testing, knew she wasn’t the only one — just the one that was successful — but other than that he didn’t know who she was under that Expansion Suit. He guessed she might’ve been a camper, like the rest of the Expansion Suit kids, was harder to tell since none of them had pendants, just the normal camp necklaces.

 

Alan sat and waited till Lysander and Malva got there, still refusing to look at his phone. After a few more — painful — minutes of waiting, Lysander came into the room, with Malva in tow.

 

“Alain, glad you made it. I take it Essentia has been helpful?” He said, adjusting his suit's cuffs, not yet looking up towards Alain.

 

“Yes sir. She’s been…ah..useful.” Alain replied. She’d kinda just been standing in the corner of the room, just waiting for a task but he guessed she was useful enough.”

 

“Good good,” Lysander looked between everyone in the room. “Good.”

 

Alain looked out the window, the view of Galar was rather pretty from Rose Tower, he wondered what the region would look like after their plan was fulfilled, if it would look like Kalos after the crisis.

 

Malva spoke up, “Well then. We should head into the meeting. The Chairman is a rather busy person.”

 

“Right then.” Lysander conceded, placing a firm hand on Alain’s shoulder, “Let’s not keep the man waiting.”

 

Lysander and Alain walked into the office first, followed by Malva, and finished off with Essentia.

It’s been one week since arriving in Alola. One week since he ran into the Island Guardian, and a few days since the prophecy. He and Serena had been adjusting fine to Alola, the Pokemon school was actually fun, — school being fun? If someone told Ash earlier about this he’d have signed up instantly — even the challenges the other kids laid out for him and Serena were a blast! He got to fight Tapu Koko again!! Later that day was when Team Rocket arrived on Melemele, and had to deal with Giovanni and Matori majority of that day, — who Musashi wouldn’t shut up about! — so they didn’t cross paths at all.

 

On Friday the class got a field day class and the two half-bloods got to try their hand at catching Pokemon! The group had a run in with Team Rocket and a Mimikyu, but by the end of the day the TRio caught(?) Mimikyu (and maybe a Bewear? That one’s not to clear) and Ash got himself a Rowlet. 

 

Now it was their first weekend in Alola, which meant freetime, and freetime always leads to training! After the few years of traveling, dealing with quests, and the like, Ash found a good mixture for training.

 

“Alright Pikachu!” He unsheathed his sword from his baldric, positioning himself into a fighting position. 

 

“Pika chu Pi.”

 

The pokemon squeaked from where it stood on the beach.

 

“Right! Pikachu, start with a Quick Attack then come at me with Iron Tail!!” He called out, bracing his sword. Pikachu ran at him, jumping up and attacking him with Iron Tail, he blocked with his sword. Ash and Pikachu continued to exchange blows, at some point he’d also ask for Pikachu to include some Thunderbolts so he could dodge and weave through them. After almost an hour he called break, both heading to sit on the porch stairs. His phone pinged with a message.

Chapter 8: To the Mall!!!

Summary:

Here’s the mall episode from S&M but in XP Guardians AU.

For Selene’s team I’m using the pokemon she has in Masters EX which includes her Rowlet/Dartrix, Umbreon, and Scissor.

Serena zoomed down the ladder. Despite being in Alola for about a week now, she hadn’t really gotten the chance to hang out with any of her classmates. They got to chat for a bit when they returned to class to let Professor Kukui know that Satoshi and Mallow would be heading to the Pokemon Center, but outside of school they didn’t hang out. She also hadn’t interacted with Selene at all, — due to her being sick.

 

“Hey Professor!” Rockruff and Sylveon came running up to her, “Aw, hey buds!”

 

“Ruff! Ruff!” The pup barked as he nuzzled against her leg, Sylveon joining, “Veon! Sylve!!”

 

Kukui looked up from where he worked at the table, “Hey Serena, heading anywhere?”

 

She nodded, “Mhm! Selene and the girls invited me out to go shopping! How about you Professor?”

 

The professor sighed, flipped through several papers and checked emails, “Just rearranging my lesson plans for the year. Principal Ookido just gave me another unit to teach.” He continued rewriting things in his planner as she walked by.

 

“Yikes-…what’d he add?” she grabbed her purse from the counter, clipping her pokeballs to her shorts. Kukui cringed a little before finally admitting the new unit, “Gods and their Mythology,..”

 

Serena paused, staring at her teacher for a while before commenting, “Yeesh…I mean, I understand why…man..good luck!” The professor just nodded as she opened the door to walk out, Sylveon following excitedly behind her.

 

“Hey Sato! You finished training?” She questioned, taking a seat on the porch stairs with him.

 

He nodded, “Yeah, plus Mallow’s coming soon and having to explain why I have a sword is kinda, just maybe, a bit too weird.” Serena chuckled.

 

“Satoshi Ketchum? Weird? No, never!” 

 

Satoshi rolled his eyes as Pikachu laughed, “Wow, my girlfriend and my best friend, teaming up on me. I see how it is!” He looked directly at the electric mouse, “See if I give you any ketchup at dinner!”

 

“Pika!!” Pikachu Protested, as Satoshi stood back up, “Come on bud, let’s head in.” Despite all his protests Pikachu followed his trainer in, immediately being greeted by Rockruff.

When Mallow arrived at the Professor’s house Serena had been waiting on the porch, her Pancham and Sylveon running around on the sand. “Serena!” She called out, waving to the Kalosian trainer. Serena waved back, getting up from the steps and meeting her half way.

 

“Thanks for coming.” 

 

“Don’t worry ‘bout it! Now we should probably get going, don’t wanna keep the others waiting.”

 

“Right! Pancham, Sylveon, let’s go!” Serena calls out to her two Pokemon as they start walking off the beach and towards Route 1.

 

Both students continued to walk in silence, Bounsweet was being carried by Pancham as it ran with Sylveon. Mallow didn’t have many interactions with the new Kalosian student, mainly just her relation to Ash and what she did in her free time. She did notice a few things during the trainer’s first week in Alola. Just like Ash, she also had a bit of a knack for battling — nothing to the level of Ash’s skill. Though honestly Mallow’s pretty sure the only person that could be on par with him was either Kiawe or Selene. — she had her own flair and Serena’s battling was much more performative but that made sense for what Mallow knew of her classmate. “So…” she started, “how’re you likening Alola, so far?” 

 

Serena instantly lit up. Upon first interaction, many would think that Ash was the one who did all the talking while Serena was the one who always listened. However since the two grew up together they often bounced off each other. “Oh my! Alola is so cool!! I can really see why my sisters speak so highly about this region! I’ve really only ever been to Unova, but we don’t often go anywhere outside of camp, and recently Hoenn for contests, wouldn’t really count Kalos since I was born and raised there-”

 

“Wait, your summer camp is all the way in Unova?” Mallow’s question went unanswered and this topic would continue to be tossed around for months yet neither trainers would add to it till much later. 

 

The Kalosian trainer continued her rant, “But anyway like I said, I really do wanna pick up some tips and tricks for Delphox while here, she just learned Will-o-Wisp, and I just know there’s a move we could do with that!”

 

Mallow nodded along as Serena talked about her plans, “Didn’t you mention wanting to learn techniques from fire twirlers?” She asked the performer.

 

“Yeah, I've been looking into that more recently!”

 

“You could always ask Kiawe.” She suggested.

 

“Kiawe? Really?”

 

“Yeah! He performs in a lot of the Poi Fire dances, I’m sure if you ask he’ll help you learn some techniques!” Mallow suggested. Knowing Kiawe, he’d be more than willing to help Serena. Despite how the fire type trainer came off, he was more like a big brother to a lot of their classmates, so there was no doubt that he’d say no to Serena.

 

“Oh great! I’ll ask him on Monday!!”

 

With that the two continued down Route 1 to the mall, their Pokemon by their side as the ice was finally broken and the two girls happily went back and fourth.

Lana tossed another fry at Selene to catch. They’d been trying to see how many times in a row she’d be able to catch em, Lillie was in charge of the scoreboard, — current high score was 12 in a row with 4 misses — as they waited for Mallow to arrive with Serena.

 

It wasn’t much later that the last two finally joined the group. To which they were greeted with the sight of Lana now throwing multiple fries at Selene. Lillie was the first to notice her friends and waved them over. Selene, upon seeing the new girl, immediately got up to greet her, “You must be Serena, Alola! Oh my Tapu’s, it’s so great to finally meet you in person!!”

 

“It’s great to meet you too! Thanks for inviting me out here!” 

 

“Pssh, of course girl!” She waved Serena off as the others joined them.

 

“Do we have a plan for what we’re doing or not?” Lana asked, now munching on the leftover fries from the challenge.

 

They all decided to move back to the booth Selene, Lana, and Lillie had been sitting at prior, to plan out their trip. “Well I was gonna buy a few new clothes I was thinking of maybe altering some outfits too, plus it wouldn’t hurt to see if any places here are hiring.” The Kalosian girl commented.

 

“A job? Aren’t you like- 14?”

 

“I’m 13…”

 

“You’re 13?!” The other girls shouted in surprise. 

 

“Why is this shocking…?”

 

“You’ve been to 2 regions, traveled around your own region, and you're only 13?” Mallow asked.

 

Serena nodded, Selene hummed, “It’s not that shocking, from what I’ve seen Alola is the only region to have the trainers need to finish 18 years of schooling or an island trial before allowing them to start their journey. If me and Elio were still in Kanto we would’ve started our journey at 10.”

 

“Yeah, in Kalos you can start at 10, however I didn’t start till I was 12.”

 

“Wait, I’m sorry, go back to the ‘needing to get a job’ why is that?” Lillie inquired, she’d never thought of someone their age needing a job. Sure Mallow and Kiawe technically had jobs but they weren’t anything official.

 

“Oh well back in Kalos, we’d do small odd jobs to get money for my performances and all our Pokémon’s needs, Hoenn was largely the same, we did have a bit of help financially for that one, but yeah. So I was thinking of finding a job here, possibly to help pay for materials, I mean, I know there isn’t a contest circuit here but I wanna be prepared for when I go back to it!” The rest of the group understood Serena’s explanation, they could talk more about it later, but first they planned to do the thing they all came here for. Shopping.

 

The group stopped at several stands and stores, looking at little trinkets and buying a few treats for their Pokemon. As they walked down the halls they finally got to the clothing section of the mall, taking their time at each store making sure to even try on a few items before buying them, or simply messing around. 

 

Serena looked at Lillies empty hands, she hadn’t bought anything at all. She knew it wasn’t a money issue, — the girl was loaded —, and it wasn’t that she didn’t find clothing that appealed to her. Lillie had looked through multiple different racks and seemed interested in a lot of items but always put it back, not even trying it on. She could tell that the other girls knew this was common already, Lana and Mallow largely left the subject alone, Selene tried showing different clothing items to Lillie but she just politely declined, mentioning something about her mother. 

 

Before Serena could ask her about it a security alarm started blaring, the girls dropped any items they were looking at and ran out when they noticed the large doors closing done on the hallway, they all rushed to get to the center, they’re pokemon running after their trainers. That was until the said door closed behind them, separating the pokemon from their trainers.

 

“Sylveon! Pancham!”

 

“Poplio! No!”

 

“Dartrix!!”

 

Each of them called out, Bounsweet was only still with them due to the fact that Pancham had given the pokemon back to her.

 

“Dartrix! You good over there?” Selene asked, waiting for her Pokemon to reply “Dartri!”

 

The other two did the same, “Sylveon? Pancham? You guys okay too?” “Syl! Veon Vee!!”

 

“Lio Lio!” Lana’s Poplio barked to its trainer, confirming it was fine. “Glad to hear Poplio!” She shouted back.

 

“What do you guys think is going on?” Lillie asked, looking around at the confused patrons in the mall.

 

A man came running in, in a security guard uniform, “Sorry for the alarm everyone!!! We’re just having a small electrical issue with the mall’s security system!” 

 

The girls were going to just sit there and wait but Selene got bored rather quickly, “Alright, this is taking for-ever!!!” She took out her phone and called another classmate. “Hey Sophocles, can you hack into the mall’s security system?”

 

“Why?” His voice rang out from the phone.

 

“Do you want plausible deniability?”

 

“Ugh yeah okay, do you still have the flash drive I gave each of you?” Sophocles asked, Selene stayed pretty silent. “You lost it?!” Selene sheepishly laughed and apologized to her friend.

 

Lana dug into her pocket and pulled out a small flash drive in a plastic bag, “I’ve got mine.”

 

“Alright then, plug it in and I’ll see what I can find. What’re you guys looking for anyways?”

 

“A way to fix the security system.”

 

“Ah, okay, I’ll see what I can do.” After that the call went silent for the most part, the typing being the main thing heard. After several long moments Sophocles sent them a map of the path they would need to take to get to the breaker room. Lana, Selene, and Serena told their Pokemon to stay where they were at so they couldn’t come back for them afterwards.

Normal kids got to go on their Pokemon Journeys, not worrying about a monster attack, or Pokemon hunters, or criminal organizations. Being a Half-Blood caused monster attacks to be guaranteed, — unless you lived in Alola, — and the chances of running into Pokemon Hunters became a lot more likely. Journeying anywhere with Satoshi made all three options 10x more likely, even if he wasn’t there. Selene fired off Crunch with her Umbreon while Serena told Delphox to use Flamethrower, sending Team Rocket blasting off yet again. They moved quickly to the breaker room, restarting the system and turning off the security alarm. The girls reunited with their Pokemon and decided to call it a day.

 

Serena walked back down Route 1 with Mallow till they went their separate ways. Sylveon, Pancham, and Delphox had all been called back to their Pokeballs after the mall, so Rockruff was a bit surprised to see none of its friends to play with. She gave the small pup Pokemon a few head scratches before going and collapsing on the couch, Satoshi sitting there with Pikachu and Rowlet as he worked on some last minute homework, “Long day?” he asked, setting his homework to the side.

 

“Yeah, we ran into the TRio again.” She sat up digging through one of her shopping bags.

She nodded, finally finding what she was looking for, “Yeah I was able to use Delphox and, apparently Selene also has an Umbreon. So they went Blasting off again!!! But here,” she tossed a new cap at her boyfriend, “figured you like this.” 

 

Satoshi and Pikachu looked over the hat, similar to his other caps, red and white with some type of symbol in the middle. This one had the top half of the pokeball with triangles around it to make it look like a sun, with a blue rim around the bill of the hat. “A sun? Bit on the nose for you don’t you think?” He joked, Pikachu already trying to wear it. 

 

She shrugged leaning onto his shoulder, “I think it suits where we’re at.” She hummed, motioning Rockruff to join them, the rock type jumped up and sat on her legs, wanting more scratches. She laughed and gave attention to the Pokemon. 

 

“I like it!” Satoshi announced, “Clearly Pikachu does too.” He laughed as Pikachu refused to give it back.

 

Serena asked him about his day, most of it spent either training or answering questions the Professor had about demigods, which was why he was barely getting to his homework, — it was just one sheet, but Satoshi tended to put paperwork off for a while, (the former Champion of Orange Islands is currently in charge of his paperwork due to multiple reasons). So the two sat together on the couch one doing homework and the other watching a new show, Detective Laki if she recalled correctly.

Chapter 10: Understandings?

Summary:

Everyone has questions, none of them get answered, but we do get some hints.

Yall are getting this chapter early bc ima be out of town and trying to post a chapter with hotel WiFi sucks absolute ass next chap will come out sometime around the 4th but posting might go down bc school starts then

One month and a week. Basically just a little over a month. That’s all it took for the class to start noticing things about the newest additions to their class. At first, it started off small then there were the off handed mentions, certain reactions that just led the class to believe there was more than what was being said.

Kiawe

Kiawe was the first to notice something off. He’d run into Ash during morning deliveries and joined him once the Professor said it was okay. Throughout the day his friend helped with several tasks but there were a few things he noticed, Ash moved rather quickly, — and not just his regular energetic quick, — more of a reflex. There were several times that the Mudbray or other farm Pokemon should’ve hit Ash, he was sure that if anyone else was there they would've been injured. He saw one of the Mudbray’s aim a kick directly at Ash, only for him to dodge it at the last second. 

 

Later that day when Ash was having dinner with his family he could’ve sworn that Ash had slipped in a prayer to Zeus, it was rather short and quick but was still worth mentioning. He never pegged his friend to be the religious type to any degree, though this was still early on to Ash’s stay in Alola so only time could tell.

 

However, something that truly caught his attention was when Ash came down in his PJ’s to check on him. The boy was covered in scars, especially where his gloves usually covered. Due to some of Team Skull's less Pokemon oriented attacks, he was able to tell that those scars weren’t just Pikachu’s Thunderbolts, but actual scars from getting attacked by a weapon. He knew Ash had scars, everyone did, especially with the obvious one under his lighting marks on his cheek, — which again another weird thing, though he supposes it isn’t too weird given the fact that both Lana and Mallow were born with “unnatural” hair color.

 

Despite all these quirks, Kiawe never thought of bringing it up. Ash is a good battler, as well as his friend. While yes he’s curious about these things, Ash can tell him whenever he wants.

Lana

It started off as a simple beach day — a beach episode (if you will) — and well, yes she noticed this prior, but just though it was first week of school nerves. But, Ash is scared of water. Which Lana supposes isn’t too weird given one of her best friends still has issues with Pokemon, and Lana isn’t one to judge (sometimes). It’s just-

 

Well it’s a bit interesting. He’ll go in the water but won’t go any deeper than his waist, and she knows Kiawe brought this up before but…Wow, Ash really is just covered in a lot of scars. Many are heavily faded, but there’s some around his wrist and ankles that couldn’t have been more than a few months old. 

 

None of that really bothers her much, she could really care less about that stuff, everyone has their own adventure and story to tell. He’ll tell his someday, just like Serena. She found it odd how someone who was younger than her already had work experience or had done several other jobs. Not every region is the same, infact Alola and Paldea are some of the only regions that require a full eighteen years of schooling, Paldea offers students the chance to compete in leagues and do gym challenges for a class but won’t let them go on a full journey till they finish school, just like Alola with island challenges.

 

But that too wasn’t what she was talking about. What intrigued her, what got her thinking her new friends were weird.

 

No. It was the fact that no matter how many times she tries, they never have a normal reaction to her Legendary jokes. When she first made a Kyogre joke, Ash just said, “I wonder how Archie feels?” Only for Serena to follow up with, “And Poseidon didn’t smite you?”

 

No one, and Lana truly means no one, has reacted with that level of casualness to any of her sarcastic remarks. They just casually drop that as if the two were just talking about the weather! And bringing up Archie too? Lana likes to keep up with the water type community online, so when she heard someone gave Kyogre, — the blue water type Legendary —, the red orb, of course she had to read about it!

 

She tried several other Legendary jokes, all of which just went over the twos head! She didn’t even know they followed any of the Legendaries, let alone Gods! She loves them, they’re both really good friends, but oh my Lele! She’s gonna go crazy trying to find some remark that’ll actually get them!

Selene

She knows that she’s not the most qualified person to deem what someone else does is weird, and honestly if you ask her Serena isn’t really that weird she’s pretty cool. A week after returning to school she began teaching Selene how Pokemon Performances, Showcases, and Contests work. She’d always been a battler, like her brother. Kanto was a very battle or research focused region, she remembered watching an old rerun of when Red became Champion, since then she fell in love with the aspects of battling. Alola didn’t have gyms or a league circuit, it was nothing like Kanto. She never even knew that Performances, Showcases, and Contests were a possibility! Serena had been a huge help, putting together which Pokemon would work best, and what moves would be good to use or learn. She was amazed that Serena was also taking battling into account, so the moves would be useful in nearly any scenario. 

 

So to her, Serena wasn’t that weird. Not entirely. However, if you ever asked her if she noticed anything weird…

 

She never saw Serena get seriously hurt, or even scarred from cuts. Sometimes when they were both planning out hypothetical routines, the moves that held Serena wouldn’t be as sturdy as she thought and she’d be on the ground just as quickly. However, once Selene made it over to her there wasn’t so much as a scratch on her. Which yeah it’s odd, maybe not entirely normal, — from what she’s been told —, but her and Elio were no different. She didn’t see why others found it weird. 

 

If anyone were to ask Selene if she noticed anything weird, she’d tell you, ‘no’, because she was weird in a lot of the same ways Serena was. They weren’t that different.

Lillie

Did Lillie ever notice anything weird from Ash or Serena? Yes! There was so much that to a normal person was just odd. She’d been Professor Kukui’s assistant for almost a year now, so when Ash and Serena joined the class and mentioned that they’d be staying with the professor, she knew she would be seeing them a bit more often then their classmates. What she didn’t expect to see upon walking into the Professor’s house, to head to the lab, was a backpack with a Ho-Oh feather attached to it, or a bow and quiver leaning against the wall next to the ladder.

 

Recently she’d gone over to the Professors house early in the morning, just to do some routine sorting and organizing of the lab, she must’ve not been paying attention to the time because by the time she came out, it was already noon. That’s when she saw it, right out in front of the porch was Ash, holding a bronze-ish sword she saw during an earlier visit, blocking Pikachu’s Irontail. She stood there stunned. Ash wasn’t the type to hurt his Pokemon, so using a weapon on them was definitely out of the question.

 

Lillie stayed and watched, just a bit longer. Ash was telling Pikachu to attack him, Rowlet and Rockruff were even encouraged to join in with their own attacks. Every time the sword made contact with any of Ash’s Pokemon, it never left a mark unlike Ash, who’d retained several scratches and bruises from his Pokémon’s attacks that he could dodge. Eventually she did manage to leave. Neither of them talked about the weapon used the next day at school.

 

Serena on the other hand, was just odd. She figured the Kalosian girl knew a thing or two when it came to sewing clothes due to being a performer and possibly having to fix up her costumes herself. What she didn’t expect though, was to come home — just a few days after Snowy hatched —, and find a small package on her bed. She asked Hobbes about it but the butler only said that Serena had dropped it off, not a certain reason as to why. Inside was just a simple set of summer dresses and a note. The note simply read; “Saw you looking at smth similar when we were at the mall. Selene mentioned u liked pink, hope i got the color right! You dont have to wear it but just keep it for when you want a lil switch up - Serena Y.G. <3”

 

For the first time in a long while she thought about going against her mother. She looked at the dresses, the fabric was softer than the original dress, the light pink shade and floral pattern were nice touches. She folded them neatly and placed them carefully into one of her dresser drawers. Maybe someday.

 

Serena and Ash never asked questions, not about why her brother or father were no longer in the picture, or why she wore the same outfit everyday. They helped her progress in getting closer to touching Pokemon. So in return, she never questioned them about stuff they did. Not about Ash’s sword fighting, not Serena’s way of somehow always being two steps ahead, not how either of them both carry themself in a way that just seemed like they were ready for an attack.

Mallow

Serena had started working with Mallow and her dad at the restaurant soon after the Mall incident. Sure she noticed how Serena didn’t get any cuts or burns. And yes she could talk about the fact that it was interesting how she also caught Pokemon in a similar fashion to Ash. She’d recently caught a Pompom Oricorio when helping Mallow look for the nectar she needed for the restaurant’s specialty dish.

 

No. What she found interesting was just the sheer amount of languages the Kalosian girl spoke. A few times in class she’d speak to Ash in Kantonese, Kalosian on the phone, and she was even starting to pick up on Alolan. When Elio and Selene first arrived at Alola they spent months trying to learn both Alolan and Unovan, often getting lost in conversations sometimes. They were both much better now, and maybe Serena was just better at languages. So sure she could write that off as maybe being a language nerd. Maybe she was reaching.

 

But then there was Ash. After seeing him lecture a Salandit, she started paying a bit more attention. She fully reached the conclusion that Ash could speak to Pokemon. It’s the only option that made sense!

 

Ash understanding Pikachu: made sense, it was his partner Pokemon. His starter.

 

Ash understanding anyone else’s Pokemon, including wild ones: should not even be remotely possible.

 

Serena and Ash were confusing people. She didn’t understand them sometimes. They were weird, the same way Lana, Elio, and Selene were weird, but just like Lana, Elio, and Selene, they’d probably always been weird. She just wished she could ask more questions.

Elio

For some reason Ash seemed familiar to him, like he’d seen him before. Apparently his mom knew why, he told her about the new students and immediately recognized Ash’s last name.

 

When his family lived in Kanto he could barely remember a time when his dad was there. Once? Maybe twice? It wasn’t a very uncommon occurrence however, Kanto had a large population of women, children, and elderly due to a war that happened a few years before he was born. A common memory he had of growing up in Kanto was when they would all travel down to Pallet Town and eat at the local restaurant named Pallet House. It was a small restaurant that doubled as an Inn for traveling trainers or families on vacation. He only found out a few weeks ago that it was owned by Hanako Ketchum, Ash’s mom. The more he looked back at the memories the more oddities he realized. Not just about Ash, but about his own family.

 

He always remember how his mom would set him and Selene up at a table while she went off to talk to Ms. Ketchum. Sometimes he’d catch them talking about ‘monsters’ or a ‘summer camp’. A summer camp made sense, his mom being a single working parent while dealing with two odd kids — it made sense that she needed time to focus on work. But his mom always refused when Ms. Ketchum offered. Then the mentions of monsters. When he was little, Elio just thought they were talking about the scary Pokemon, he and his sister had a habit of getting into trouble with wild Pokemon sometimes. That’s when Ms. Ketchum mentions Alola, talking about the Guardians, and ‘no monsters’,  afterwards his mom was dead set on moving the family to Alola.

 

As for Ash, he finally learned why he seemed so familiar. Elio remembered two kids always running around the Inn, inviting him and Selene to play with them. The two kids were Ash and Professor Ōkido’s youngest grandson. That’s where he’d seen Ash before

 

Comparing the little kid he used to play with to his current classmate was, well there were key differences. Ash didn’t have scars as a kid, but he was also a lot more…open? Sure his classmate can talk his ear off about battling and different Pokemon, but he does a great job at talking without giving any answers. The kid he played with at the Inn would still be talking non-stop, but he tended to share things about him. He learned several things about Ash that way, like the fact that the boy could understand Pokemon, could basically use the move Rain Dance, and was practically a human lightning rod. Sure he wondered why Ash stopped talking about this, what could’ve possibly happened to give him the scars that he has and hide his abilities. Maybe he was like him and his mom told him to hide them. He’s sure Ash has his reasons. Maybe someday he’ll open up again. He’ll wait till then.

Sophocles

Sophocles volunteered to help Ash train for the next time he faced Tapu Koko. What he didn’t expect was for the Kantonian boy and his Pikachu to absolutely destroy his machine, and fry his computer. 

 

He’ll admit, ever since Ash and Serena joined their class, the weirdness and oddities just cranked up to 11. Tapu Koko had been spotted more, Lillie was getting better at being near Pokemon — which was a win, and he’s happy for his classmate, — but Ash fighting said Legendary? Might as well challenge a God then. His curiosity really peaked when Serena had treated the whole Legendary fight, like it was a typical Tuesday, recording it like you would a normal school fight. Then he read the messages the two sent in the group chat in reply to the twins’ reactions to the video. However it wasn’t till after the ‘training’ accident, that he bothered to search up Ash’s trainer profile, along with Serena’s.

 

Besides league circuits and contests the two trainers took part of he couldn’t find anything else. It was all redacted, even Ash’s placing in the Kalos League was left redacted. After a few days of trying to dig deeper he finally managed to hack into the trainer profiles.

 

If you were to ask Sophocles if Ash and Serena were interesting. He’d say, “A Hundred percent, yes”. Crisis after crisis, from six regions and the Orange islands, all had Ash at the center of it. Every criminal organization or huge Pokemon hunter from said six regions, all put to a stop by Ash, not to mention the two Team Rocket members and their talking Meowth following him. Even Serena had her name attached to the Kalos Crisis. 

 

He couldn’t have been the only one who noticed this stuff. He’s sure his friends would’ve noticed too, he could ask them about it, but Lillie’s too nice and wouldn’t want to “talk behind the twos backs” (even though that isn’t what he was doing. He was just gathering data…without them knowing…), Elio and Selene would end up telling Ash and Serena about it, or also take Lillie’s side. So he didn’t include them, just himself, Kiawe, Lana, and Mallow.

Professor Kukui

His borders are weird. They’re different. He learned to accept that right out the gate. After the first night they spent at his house, — and him learning about the prophecy, — the other parents in the server helped him learn exactly what he was dealing with. Sure he internally panicked when he learned several champions and other professors were in there, but he couldn’t focus on that. Not when he just learned that Ash was at the center of every world ending event.

 

He took time keeping an eye on the two whenever they were all home. He learned that both kids still had nightmares about the Kalos Crisis, how they’d stay up talking to each other about it. How Ash always took Pikachu into consideration, always keeping the Pokemon nearby, and worried when he couldn’t find him. Or how Lucario reacted to Ash’s presence despite being in completely separate rooms and levels. How Serena would accidentally scare both Ash and herself whenever talking about something potentially haunted. How she’d spend any free time she got with her sisters or helping Selene. Despite being a performer, she was just an equally skilled battler. He noticed how neither talked much about Kalos. Serena was more open but you had to ask just the right questions just to get an answer from Ash. 

 

Everyday he’d learn something new from his new borders. Sometimes he’d even lose his sanity with the other parents and guardians.

 

He learned quickly that Ash would do anything for his Pokemon, for any Pokemon. He spent an entire week just training Rockruff to learn one move. More recently helped Litten adjust to a new life without Stoutland, and jumped off a cliff for Pikachu. He’d mention that one to the other parents and oh my Arceus he got sent a link to a video of him doing the same thing on Prism Tower. Serena wasn’t as impulsive as her boyfriend, which he was so thankful for. At this point, Kukui’s pretty sure he’ll be going grey before these kids graduate.

 

Luckily the class has a field trip to Akala Island soon, and the Kanto region just a week after. Everything’s already planned out and ready so it should just be smooth sailing. Totally.

Ash left his sword on the porch, “Seriously?!” In the sky he saw Team Rocket’s air balloon. When had they brought that to Alola?!? Nonetheless, Ash readies his Pokemon for, — what’s hopefully a short, — battle. “Why’d you come all the way to the Professor's house?”

 

The two Team Rocket agents jump down from their hot air balloon, “Did someone ask something? We’re here to find out!”

 

“Gods dammit!” The Kantonian trainer groaned. He forgot they start their motto after questions now!

 

“Noble answers are what we’re all about!”

 

Jessie began walking off to the left as she monologued, “The beauty so radiant the flowers and moon hide in shame, A single flower of evil in this fleeting world, Jessie!” Ending in a dramatic pose.

 

James continued on the opposite side, “The nobly heroic man of our times, The Master of Darkness fighting back against the tragic world, It's James!” His ending pose being just as dramatic as Jessie’s.

 

“It's all for one and one for all, A glittering dark star that always shines bright, Dig it, While Meowth takes flight!”

 

“Team Rocket, let's fight!”

 

“That’s right!”

 

“Wobbuffet!!”

 

The door opened and Serena walked out, looking just as annoyed, “Gods, really? I would say if you continue I’ll just make you rhyme constantly for a week but Gods dam! I think that’d be more torture for us then you-…”

 

Jessie rolled her eyes, “Oh it’s the frilly Twerpette again. Look, just hand Pikachu over to us and we’ll be on our way!”

 

Ash and Pikachu looked at each other then back to the TRio. “You know what, yeah sure. Pikachu, go ahead.”

 

“Pika!” The small ‘mon scampered over to the TRio, jumping on top of James’ shoulder, “Chu pi chu!” It squeaked.

 

Meowth eyed the electric mouse suspiciously, “Sum thin’ ain’t addin up heres…”

 

“Pika! Chu!!!” Pikachu’s Thunderbolt rang out and as it jumped off of James’ shoulder the TRio went blasting off again, only to be yanked out of the air by a Bewear.

 

“Aw man- I forgot to let them know about the meeting!!” Serena exclaimed. 

 

Ash picked Pikachu back up, “I can’t believe they actually fell for that-” he walked up to where Serena was on the porch, “I’ll text them later.” With Pikachu back on his shoulder, he grabbed his sword and they walked back inside.

Wednesday rolled around and the flights containing both Ash and Serena’s families arrived just as school ended for the two half bloods. Kalem and Leaf arrived at Kukui’s house almost an hour after everyone else, the Professor himself was in the Lab while the rest were up in the loft.

 

“Kalem!! You actually made it!” The young Kalosian girl helped her brother onto the loft, his Espurr jumping off from its trainers shoulder to join where Ash’s Rowlet and Litten had been snuggled up on his bunk. “Course I came, it’s not everyday I get to see my sister.”

 

“Likewise, it’d be nice if a certain cousin of mine came home more often aswell.” Leaf teased Ash as she joined everyone up on the loft.

 

Each half blood — and protector — gathered around in a small circle. Mina looked around the group, “Alright, this seems like everyone…” earning a few nods from the group, before she could continue Leaf interjected, “Wait Kojirō and Musashi? Should they be here as well?”

 

Ash shook his head, “They couldn’t get away from Bewear long enough to get here. So this is everyone. Me and Serena will make sure to stop by their place to fill them in.”

 

“Alright then.” Kalem started. “This is what I’ve been filled in on so far.”

Emma was stuck in her stupid assigned room. She would’ve loved more privacy but she was stuck sharing a room with some kid named Bede. From what she thought, Bede was more on the same level as Alain, not her. Luckily the kid wasn’t here as often due to being a new trainer. Gods, she’s sure this kid didn’t even know what he was wrapped in with. She very quickly picked up the kids schedule, he’d be up early in the morning and return late, she had to be Essentia whenever Alain was to go out or join for a meeting. Other than that, she was kept in her room. 

 

After Looker had found out she was Essentia he hadn’t wanted her to return to Team Flare especially when he’d found out what the Expansion Suit had been doing to her. He was down right ready to barge into Team Flares base. It was Clemont’s idea to modify the Expansion Suit, with the help of some new programmer — who’d also helped with the Iris Extension on their messages, — she was to only keep in contact with Kalem, their messages would be wired through her helmet and neither would be in the group chat. Essentia had gone MIA for only a week till she was back out stealing Pokemon. Not many knew but Lysander and Xerosic both gave her specific details to target fellow half bloods.

 

Now in Galar her job was much the same, when they’d have a mission for her, they’d give specific instructions to go after half bloods of the region. There were a few she was to avoid at all cost, Leon, Sonia, and Allister being the only two as going after them would draw too much attention.

 

Each new mission, task, agreement, and development had been sent straight to Kalem. Both half bloods knew this was dangerous, if she was caught she or Kalem could very much be killed. Ash had originally volunteered, much to the dismay of every adult and friend of his, so Kalem volunteered next, he was the only person she trusted and he’d helped her so much already. Both half bloods were unclaimed, Kalem didn’t know why, but Emma knew their mothers were minor Goddesses. They didn’t have the same treatment as the main Gods up on Olympus. It was even a miracle there had been cabins for Hades' children and Hestia’s Legacies.

 

She finished her latest report and sent it over to her friend. Sitting back on her bed, Espurr curled up by the foot of it.

Kalem filled the group in on what Emma had sent him the week prior. None of them had suspected Chairman Rose to be in on it, Ash wondered if Leon knew, — probably not. 

 

“Why would they head there though?” Acerola asked, “What’s in Galar?”

 

Leaf shared her thoughts, “Dynamax particles maybe? Could they Dynamax a Legendary?” But ultimately everyone was a bit confused.

 

“Could we send someone to Galar? It would also help to have more demigods on our side if Emma is being told to target them.”

 

“Aren’t Artemis’ Hunters already working on that?”

 

Leaf nodded, “Yeah, Hilda mentioned something about that last time they visited camp!”

 

Everyone thought for a second, Ash sighed, “We’re playing the waiting game aren't we?” He inquired, earning an exhausted nod from everyone. Gods, this was such a mess.

Night rolled around and they currently had a full house, both Ash’s and Serena’s present family members were still at Kukui’s place. The professor had offered to make them all dinner but Hanako said she’d handle it. When he tried to protest that he should make them dinner since he’s the host, everyone disagreed, — not that his cooking is bad in any way, but Hanako is well known for serving delicious traditional Kantonese dishes and it was a rare treat to have her cook a meal, since she mostly stayed either back home in Kanto, or at camp in Unova. She did call Ash and Mimey to the kitchen to help her, — Leaf was banned from any and all kitchens. 

 

“Did you kids talk about everything you needed too?” Primula questioned the kids as they waited.

 

“Yeah, we’re just playing the waiting game till they make a move…” Kalem explained in short.

 

Kukui looked at the group currently at the table, “Oh? Waiting game for what?”

 

The Kalosian boy looked to his sister, she nodded, so he elaborated, “It’s a waiting game until Team Flare makes a move. As most people know, they attacked Kalos after the Lumiose Conference. Two months later there was a minor altercation in Unova, but was taken care of by the Tao Trio, their Protector and several trusted campers.”

 

“Wait!” Serena exclaimed, “I don’t remember hearing about Unova?!”

 

“Rosa and Nate handled it quickly, apparently Lysander was trying to team up with NeoPlasma. N didn’t even let them get close.”

 

“NeoPlasma? I think I’ve heard of them…?” 

 

“It’s some freaky Pokemon liberation cult, well at least Team Plasma was. After Hilda, Hilbert, and N, stopped Ghetsis, NeoPlasma formed.” Leaf rolled her eyes, she always thought that the old team's ‘Liberation’ plan sounded like complete Tauros-shit.

 

Acerola snapped, “Oh! If Lysander managed to work with NeoPlasma, then they’d have connections closer to where the Gods are!”

 

“The Gods? They’re in the Unova Region? Not-” Kukui was cut off by his former student, “The Gods go to whichever Region is most popular, given the fact that Unova is leading in entertainment, and is constantly expanding. They’re right on the tippy top of Dragonsiral Tower.”

 

“I- what?!”

 

“Dinners ready!!” Hanako called out, followed by a shout from Ash, “Professor, you’re gonna love this!!”

 

Soon after they all began digging in and eating. Tapu, Kukui’s pretty sure if there’s another revelation soon he might just lose it…

Chapter 12: Let’s Have a Battle! Battle? Battle! (Battle of the Bands!/ref)

“You never said you were coming to school!”
“Huh! What? Can I go help out my favorite cousin at his Pokémon school?”

“Uh huh, Kalem, what's your excuse?”
“Your teacher asked us to.”
“He asked us if we wanted to demonstrate Mega Evolution, and we said yes.”

“Hey Satoshi! You're going to lose the battle!”

“Pikachu Catch!”

Class began like usual, and everyone was talking about the open house the following day. Professor Kukui had called for a study hall that morning, so everyone was doing their own thing. Even the Pokemon were off playing around the classroom. Just before lunch started, Kukui excused himself- leaving the kids in the classroom alone.

 

“Alright, what do y’all think the surprise is?” Selene asked as she pushed her desk closer to everyone else’s. They all formed a close circle. 

 

Serena looked towards Selene. “Surprise? What do you mean?”

 

“Professor Kukui always gives us a study hall day when he has a surprise.” Answered Kiawe.

 

“I hope we’re having another beach day!”

 

“Oh! What if it’s a scavenger hunt!!”

 

Professor Kukui walked back into the classroom, stopping to lean on his desk, as he spoke. “Alola class! I’m back with a surprise!” 

 

“As you all know, we’ve been learning about mega evolution here and there for the past few days,” he paused, turning to the chalk board behind him and writing ‘Mega Evolution’ before continuing, “along with that we’ve also touched on battling circuits throughout different regions. Today we have two special guests joining us for the rest of class.”

 

Two trainers walked in, the class erupted into whispers of hushed excitement. Ash and Serena looked at each other, then at the two trainers, then back at each other.

 

“Hello!!” The female trainer exclaimed, “How is everyone?” She received a few ‘goods’ from the class, before continuing, “My name's Leaf Otsubo, but you can call me Leaf! I’m a trainer from the Kanto region, and my friend over here is…” Leaf waited for him to pick up.

 

“Kalem Gabena, I’m a trainer from Kalos.” The students looked at the trainer, then to Serena, who just chuckled awkwardly. “We’re here to show you guys our Pokemon’s mega evolution. We’ll do a demonstration battle, and then you all can battle us. However, we were told not to battle you guys using Mega Evolution as that’ll be…saved for a later lesson?” Kalem shot a quick glance at Kukui who nodded.

 

“Any questions?” The professor asked, several hands shot up. Kukui called on Mallow.

 

“Are you Serena’s brother?”

 

“Yeah, she’s my little sister.”

 

Kiawe raised his hand next, “Did you both participate in the Pokemon League?”

 

“Yup!! I got up to the top three in the Indigo League back when I entered!” Leaf shared.

 

“I only got up to top ten in the last Kalos League.” Kalem answered, both trainers gaining a few looks of admiration. Kalem would’ve shared Ash’s placing in the Kalos League but gaging by the fact that the kid had not added to the conversation himself, was evidence enough that he didn’t want to have it be brought up.

 

“Alright class! Let’s head outside!” Kukui called out to the students and they all started walking out, the two guests and half bloods walked with each other near the back of the group.

 

Ash leaned over to Leaf, speaking to her in rushed Kantonian, “君たちは学校に来るとは言ってないよ!” She huffed and leaned on his shoulder, “えっ！何？大好きな従兄弟のポケモンスクールのお手伝いに行ってもいいの?”

 

“私はあなたの唯一のいとこです!”

 

Serena turned to her brother, “Euh huh, Kalem, quelle est ton excuse?” She asked in Kalosian. Her brother shrugged, “Votre professeur nous l'a demandé.”

 

Ash and Serena paused, “What?!” They exclaimed.

 

“Il nous a demandé si nous voulions faire une démonstration de Méga Évolution, et nous avons dit oui.”

 

Leaf and Kalem continued to walk as Serena and Ash stood there in shock for a few minutes, Leaf taunted her cousin,  “おいおい、サトシ！戦いに負けるぞ！” This caused the two half-blood students to chase after them.

Kukui and the class had waited out by one of the battlegrounds–the rest of the kids sitting on the bleachers–as they watched Leaf and Kalem running out. Both young adults (they both looked incredibly young for their age, he even thought Kalem was around Mallow’s age [15]) were being chased by Ash and Serena, each trainer’s pokemon following behind them (except for Espurr since they liked to stick on Kalem’s shoulder). Ash was able to catch up with Leaf and even managed to snatch her hat, “ピカチュウキャッチ！” he called out, tossing the hat to Pikachu who’d used Quick Attack to get ahead and jumped up when he threw the hat.

 

“Ah Sato!! Jeez, scared the daylights outta me!” Leaf exclaimed as she came to a halt with the rest of their group. Kalem was panting as Serena caught up to him, laughing as she picked Espurr off of his shoulder to carry it. In retaliation Leaf closed the leftover distance between her and her cousin, snatching his cap and placing it on her own head, snickering as she did so.

Lana leaned over to Mallow and Lillie, “So they definitely all know each other, yeah?” The way Ash and Leaf acted reminded her of her little sisters, the twins were just as chaotic as her friend was currently being with their guest. Ash did mention that one of his cousins would be coming with his mom, so this was probably her. She was…well you could definitely tell that they were related. While Serena and her brother messed around, Kalem being a bit hesitant but still joining in,–from what Selene had translated—they were going back and forth in Kantonese calling each other names. Lana was interested to see how the two older trainers battled.

Professor Kukui eventually broke up the bickering, Ash and Serena heading to sit at the bleachers while Leaf and Kalem got prepared to battle each other. Kukui stood in the middle of the field, Kalem to the right and Leaf to the left, “Alright, this’ll be a one on one battle, Mega evolution is permitted. Now I want a clean battle-” Leaf let out a quiet joking ‘Boo’ she snickered as the professor continued, “after this, you will be able to challenge others, but Mega Evolution will no longer be permitted. Understood?” he asked, everyone nodded in agreement.

 

“Alright then.” he backed off the field, “Begin!!” Professor Kukui called out. Leaf grabbed a pokeball from her pocket, clicking it then holding it out, Kalem doing the same but with a pokeball on his belt.

 

“Venus! We’ll win this!!”

 

“Kanga! Let’s battle!”

 

A Venusaur and Kangaskhan came out of pokeballs. And with that, the battle began. Kalem rolled up his sleeve and Leaf pulled out a gem from her bag.

 

“Kanga! Mega Evolve!!”

 

“Let’s do this! Venus, Mega Evolve!”

 

The two went head to head as the class watched, Serena filmed as the battle went on. Leaf began with Poison Powder then switched through a multitude of Vine Whip and Razor Leaf’s while Kalem set up Outrage and used Mega Punch. They continued back and forth till Leaf ended with Mega Drain and a final Vine Whip. Professor Kukui called it, “Kangaskhan-” “Kanga!” Serena called out, correcting the professor, “Right, Kanga is unable to battle! The winner is Leaf!”

 

Both Kanga and Venusaur transformed back, as Mega Evolution ended. “Told ya we’ll win! Aw good job Venus!” Leaf hugged her Venusaur, thanking it before calling it back to its pokeball. The pokeball shrunk once more and she put it into her pocket. Reaching into her bag she grabbed out a Full Heal potion and tossed it at Kalem. He thankfully took it and used it on Kanga before calling her back into her pokeball as well.

 

Sophocles turned to Serena, who just finished recording the battle. “Hey Serena, can you send the video to the GC?”

 

“Course, Soph!” She replied, Serena had already been planning to send it to the camp group chat so it wouldn’t be much work to send it to the school one as well.

 

“Alright class, you guys are free to challenge either Kalem or Leaf, does anyone have questions?”

 

Kiawe raised his hand, “Are Z-moves permitted?” Before the Professor could refuse, or state that it’d be unfair since they couldn’t use Mega Evolution, Leaf cut him off (again). 

 

“Yes!! I’ve been dying to see a Z-move in person since Satoshi got his!” 

 

Kalem also interjected, “I’d also like to see these Z-moves. Plus we want you guys to go full out on these battles!”

 

“Oh! We’ll also be using different Pokemon from our teams! That way you’ll still get to learn on the spot what Pokemon moves our team has, and build strategies as ya’ll battle!!” Leaf added. 

 

Sure Kukui’s lesson had probably just been hijacked by their guest, but all the kids seemed rather interested and eager to battle.

 

Soon enough the students took turns battling either Leaf or Kalem. The rounds were as followed:

 

Kiawe vs. Kalem

Kiawe and Turtanator won over Kalem and Gengar. The fire type trainer didn’t get to use his Z-move since Gengar went down to a Shell Trap.

 

Lana vs. Leaf

Horsea pulled through and won over Lana and Poplio.

 

Kiawe vs. Leaf

Leaf managed to win the battle with Jigglypuff though it was very neck and neck for a while. 

 

Lillie vs. Kalem

Lillie was rather hesitant during the battle but did manage to get a few good hits on Espurr. However Kalem did win this match.

 

Sophocles vs. Kalem

Electric vs. Electric. Despite having less battling experience, Sophocles and Togedemaru managed to win.

 

Elio vs. Leaf

Elio did not expect Leaf’s Ditto to be so bulky, needless to say he lost.

 

Selene vs. Leaf

Dartrix won!!! Selene finally managed to beat Leaf’s winning streak!!

 

Mallow vs. Kalem

Steenee tried her best and Mallow was proud, however a Charizard is a Charizard and type advantages are sadly a thing. Kalem won.

 

Both Ash and Serena had avoided battling so far, mainly just watching their classmates battle. They did agree however, to a two on two battle. Once Mallow’s Pokemon battle ended, the two half-bloods walked over and prepared for their turn.

 

Leaf and Kalem vs. Serena and Ash. Each trainer was allowed one Pokemon. Just as Serena and Ash were about to call out their chosen Pokemon, Kalem stopped them. “Ah, I’m interested in that new pokemon you caught Y, Oricorio right? Yeah, I wanna see what it can do.”

 

“Ooo!! Yeah! Satoshi, let’s see that lil’ pup of yours battle!”

 

The two students looked at each other then nodded.

 

“Rockruff come on out!”

 

“Oricorio, let’s put on a show!”

 

Both pokemon came running over to join their trainers.

 

“Ori!! Ori cori cori!!” The dancing Pokemon chirped, excited for this battle. Similarly the small rock type bounced around just as excited for the battle, “Ruff! Ruff!!”

 

Afterwards Kalem and Leaf both sent out their Pokemon.

 

“Let’s go, Espurr!” The small Restraint Pokemon came out from behind its Trainer. Upon noticing that it would be fighting against Serena it excitedly got ready to battle.

 

Leaf pulled out another pokeball from her pocket, releasing a new pokemon, “Come on Star! We got this!”

 

A small Eevee came onto the battlefield, “Eev Vee Vee!!”

 

“You got an Eevee?!”

 

“Oh my Arceus he’s a little cutie!!!”

 

Leaf nodded, tipping her bucket hat, “Yup! Elaine gave ‘em to me recently! Of course I had to name him Star!”

 

“Alright then! Let’s battle!”

 

“Star! Take Down!”

 

“Hit him with, Rock throw!!”

 

“Alright, Oricorio, go in with an Air Cutter!”

 

“Thunder Wave Ess!”

 

Neither side went easy on the other. Everyone had to move further up the bleachers just to avoid any stray attacks. Selene had been recording this battle, per Serena’s request. As Oricorio was in the middle of setting up a Feather Dance, Kalem yelled out, “Ess! Psybeam!!”

 

Oricorio was unable to move or finish setting up the Feather Dance, leading the Dancing Pokemon to faint. Serena hissed, she pulled out the ‘mons Pokeball, “Oricorio, return!” 

 

Both siblings nodded to each other and sat with the rest of the students, as Leaf and Ash’s battle continued.

 

“Tackle!”

 

“Dodge and use Rock Throw!”

 

“Ha ha! Star, Iron Tail!!”

 

“Dodge and use Rock Throw on the ground!” Sand and dirt was kicked up, blocking not only Leaf’s view of Rockruff, but also the class’s.

 

“Oh? What’s this Satoshi?” She stood alert, Star doing the same.

 

As the field cleared Rockruff had returned in front of Ash, both the ‘mon and trainer striking similar poses. “Alright Rockruff, let’s do this! Use Breakneck Blitz!!!”

 

“Breakne- WHAT?! Star return!!” 

 

“HEY WAIT!!” There was a quick flash in which the power of the Z-move stopped for a second before dissipating. The rush and quick disappearance of power caused Rockruff to faint, losing the match. Ash stumbled and fell to the ground. Pikachu scurried over to its trainer, Ash rubbed at his hands as he looked up at his cousin, “Leaf!! What was that for?!”

 

Leaf, still holding the Pokeball containing Star, shouted, “The fuck is Breakneck Blitz?! Whose neck are you breaking!!?”

 

“Oh so you’re fine with moves like ‘Leech Life’ but Hades forbid the move's name is ‘Breakneck Blitz’!”

 

“Satoshi, it sounds like you were ‘bouta break Star’s neck! Also Leech Life is basically like Mega Drain!!”

 

Professor Kukui stepped in, helping Ash back up and explaining the Z-Move to Leaf, “It’s just the name, no actual neck breaking is involved, it’s more similar to Tackle. The Pokémon’s speed is increased and they crash into their opponent at full speed.”

 

“Oh.” Leaf said, looking from Star’s Pokeball then to Ash, who was leaning slightly onto Kukui, “Sorry Sato, you okay?”

 

Ash nodded as Kukui helped him back to the bleachers, “Yeah uh…Comment va votre Kalosian?”

“Je suppose que forcer ses amis à apprendre une autre langue est une tradition familiale.” Ash joked, causing both Kalem and Serena to snicker as well. Serena remembered when they were all younger and at camp that Gary would keep trying to get Ash to learn Unovan so it’d be easier for all three of them to talk with each other. 

 

“Mais bon. Ouais, ça va, j'ai juste dû utiliser un peu d'Aura pour rediriger la puissance du Z-Move. Un repas et une sieste ne suffiront pas!!” 

 

Leaf walked over, stealing Ash’s hat and placing it onto Pikachu’s head as she ruffled her cousin's hair. “Always the same!”

 

Now that Leaf was with Ash, and they seemed to have made up (probably? Whatever Ash had said to Leaf seemed to have cleared up any left over worry), he addressed the class, “Well! That sure was a Blast Burn of a Lesson! Everyone, thank Leaf and Kalem for coming.” In unison the class all shouted a ‘Thank You’ to the two visiting trainers.

Leaf waited with Kalem out by a picnic table as Satoshi and Yvonne’s class finished. Star sat on her lap, she still felt bad for pulling him out of the battle, but seriously who names a move ‘Breakneck Blitz’? 

 

Satoshi was an enigma even in their family, not only being an Aura user but being a child of the big three, of Zeus, not to mention all of the Gods and Legendaries that he’s a Legacy for. She knew being the ‘Chosen One’ was a burden on his shoulders, before he was old enough to start his journey the God’s called upon Red, Blue, herself, and at the time Yellow as well. She wasn’t a half-blood herself, neither was Red, yet they always got roped into these quests, especially after becoming Moltres’ Protector and for Red, becoming Articuno’s Protector.

 

The two sat in silence for a while, enjoying the current peace of Alola. To live on an island where the Legendaries actually protect their half-bloods from monsters, Yellow would still be here if Kanto was like that. She sighed, looking over to Kalem who’d been checking his messages for updates from Emma. From what Satoshi had said Yvonne, Kalem, and their friends only joined him, Clemont, and Bonnie, because Team Flare was after him, he’d been a recluse (at least as much as he could be) for the first few days of traveling together. The Kalosian boy was a whole three years younger than her. With everything that happened in Kalos, and with Team Flare, it was a miracle he lived to be eighteen. A feat not many half-bloods achieve. Kalem placed his phone on the table. Leaf took a second before speaking, “How’s she doing?” she asked, feigning her usual excitement. 

 

“What?”

 

“How's she doing?” Leaf asked again. 

 

“I already upda-” she held up her hand, cutting him off. “Sure you gave us her update on Team Flare, but I know you two talk more than that. How’s she doing? How’re you doing?” He sighed, rubbing the back of his neck.

 

“Good, her roommate isn’t too bad. She’s sure he’s a half-blood, just…not claimed. Said he’s brash but always straight to the point. Apparently he’s being sponsored by ‘Chairman Rose’.” Leaf nodded as she listened, “I’m doing fine, been going out more ever since the Kalos Crisis.” She smiled at the younger trainer, “That’s good!”

 

They both fell into silence again, for what felt like forever (if forever was two minutes).

 

“Is it bad that…sometimes I think Team Flare is right, in all this…?”

 

The Kantonian trainer looked up at the boy sitting across from her, shocked at his statement but waiting for him to continue.

 

“I- I don’t agree with killing everyone to restart the world type shit- I’m just saying, there’s a lot of kids in the Hermes cabin. A lot of unclaimed kids. They ignore us yet expect us to do quests for them. Hades, Ash alone should be an example. No normal half blood has gotten to the point where their quests reach the double digits!” Kalem explained.

 

She hated how he was right. Yes there was a portion of Team Flare that just wanted to destroy the world, but there were also all the half-bloods that left to join their cause. Can’t be unclaimed if there aren’t any Gods to claim you. According to Emma, they’d originally tried going to free Kronos, but Giratina—despite being the titan’s partner Pokemon—did a very good job at making sure no one was able to reach him. She knew a lot of those unclaimed kids had been shoved into the Hermes cabin and forgotten about, she didn’t blame them for hating their godly parents. Yellow had been unclaimed her entire life, when she died her burial shrouded was that of the Hunters of Artemis, not any godly parent or even a Legacy. 

 

As Leaf was about to respond the bell rang. Kids from the Pokemon school came rushing out for the end of the school day. Leaf was able to see Yvonne and Satoshi walking out together as they talked with their classmates. She looked over to Kalem who made eye contact, they could talk more about this later.
