Chapter Text

Sirius:

“Fine! Then leave this house!” He heard that voice again. Repeating over and over again. His breathing became heavier. Sirius felt his heart beating through his chest. ‘Oh my god, I left him alone, I broke the promise, Sirius repeated to himself. ‘Why did I do that? He’s never going to forgive me. Fuck.’ He started spiraling, reaching a hand up to pull on his hair, then reaching to his lip, wiping blood off. Panic coursed through his veins. The panic he felt only turned into anger. His eyes blurred, only seeing red. His fists began to scrunch, nails digging into the flesh. He’s going to get them back. He needs to show everyone who they truly are. Monsters.

Sirius’ life revolved around cameras. I mean, he grew up with them. He had no personal space, no privacy; it was all annoying. Wouldn’t you be annoyed if you saw a camera in your face as soon as you woke up? Sirius always felt watched. It was not because of the cameras, but because of his mother. She watched his every move, his every breath. Even with the cameras off, she was watching, telling him what not to do and how to act. He felt as if he was drowning in his own home. It was suffocating to be there. He only ever wanted to breathe. That was hard since Walburga only cared about three things. Some might say family is included, but that was the last thing on her list. The only thing on her mind is fame, money, and power.

.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

For the first time in Sirius’s life, he didn’t know where to go. He wandered the streets, clutching the backpack on his shoulder. The fabric rubbed against his palm, giving it a slight burn. The street lights were on, and no cars or people were to be seen. He became a little nervous walking the streets; it was way too quiet. Not to mention it was still dark with the street lights on, he’s not ashamed to admit he’s terrified. All Sirius could think about was different ways he’d die. Sirius almost cried in relief (he did) when he saw an old diner open.

He made his way into the diner. He was halfway through the door when he heard a gasp. “Oh, dear! Are you alright? Come in, come in! Take a seat,” She urged him, guiding him to a red seat. Her brown hair with a few grey streaks was pulled back into a low bun, and she gave a gentle smile, making him feel a sense of serenity. Her eyes told a different story, the hazel-squinted eyes full of concern. Scanning Sirius as if he were an animal in a cage. He did notice a name tag pinned to her shirt, the name ‘Eunice’ plastered on it.

He cleared his throat before taking a good look around, with blue and white checkered tiles on the floor. The red booths are aligned against the walls, with circular tables in the middle. Sirius grinned before turning back to the older woman, who was staring at him with full concentration. Her eyebrows furrowed slightly as if she was trying to figure out who he was, and her tongue sticking to the side. Sirius was starting to think he had picked the wrong place to go.

“What can I get you, dear?” Her voice was softer than when he first walked in. All the concerns she had before were immediately forgotten.

.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

Sirius was on his third cup of coffee when he saw Eunice approaching him, plate in her hand. Sirius stared at her with wonder. He did not order any food.

“I thought you might be hungry,” she said on the opposite side of the booth, then slid him a plate with a piece of chocolate cake.

“Thank you,” Sirius muttered to her.

“Can I ask you a question?” She gave him that sincere smile. He just nodded, making her continue. “What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be at home? Aren’t you in that show?” She put her elbow on the table and then put her head in her hand.

“That was more than one question…I uh, I had no other place to go. My mother kicked me out. Énorme connasse. And yes, I was in that show.” Sirius looked back at her and frowned. “Is there any place I can go? A hotel, anything.”

“There might be this one place, but I’ll need to talk to him first. My grandson has been looking for another roommate. But if not.. It's not a place to stay, but it's somewhere to go. I have book club with me and my girls, one of them is around your age. You might like her,” Eunice gave him a soft smile.

“Nessie, are you trying to drag me into a book club?” For the first time in a while, Sirius let out a genuine smile.

Eunice grinned at the nickname “Nessie, huh? That's got a nice ring to it. But no, it’s just a place for you to go, doll. I’ll call my Remus and ask him about you staying there. Is that alright?” Sirius looked hesitant. “Is he gonna be ok with me?” Sirius’ nerves got the best of him, all the “what ifs” running through his head.

“I know my boy, he’ll say yes. Now, excuse me while I go call him,” Eunice got up with a grunt and limped behind the counter, dialling a number on the landline.

.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

Remus:

Remus was sitting on the couch when his phone rang. The only problem was that his phone was across the room whilst his best friend was cuddled up to him, holding on for dear life.

“James…” Remus shook his shoulder, “James!” he didn’t budge. With a sigh, Remus pushed James off him, resulting in him landing with a loud thud and groaning.

“James?” Remus questioned, “Can you be a dear and get my phone?” he gave a smile to the boy on the ground, James pushed himself off the ground with a grunt, walking toward the ringing phone. He beamed once he saw who was calling.

He yawned before he answered the call, throwing Remus a wink, “Hi Eunice, how are you?” The smile never left his face.

“Oh, hi James! Could you put Remus on the phone? I think I found you guys a roommate,” James turned to Remus with a shrug and put the call on speaker.

“Gran?” Remus questioned his face full of confusion, “Remus! How are you, love? Oh, wait, back on topic. I met this sweet boy around your age, who has no place to go. I think the three of you will all get along. I think you should give him a chance.” Her voice was almost a whisper.

“Gran is he with you now? What's his name?” There was a pause of silence. “If I say his name, you might say no,”

Remus stilled, “Gran, who?” James was looking at Remus now, face full of concern.

Chapter Text

Remus:

“So what are we gonna do?” James asked, scratching the back of his neck. “We should at least give him a chance, moons,”

Remus stared at him, taking a deep breath. “No,” Remus said before walking to his room with a limp. James chased after him. “Come on, we haven’t even met him! Let's just go down to the diner and talk.. Moony.. Moons? Light of my life. Don’t ignore me, Remus!” The door was slammed in James’ face.

James knocked on the door lightly, “Don’t make me do this..” he let out a grin and knocked a pattern on the door, “Remus?” he sang, “Do you wanna find a roommatee, it’s ok if we didn’t meet! I don’t see the issue! Now come out and playyyyy.” Remus winced at the sound of his best friend failing to sing a frozen parody. “If I agree, will you stop? Also frozen? Really?” James shrugged before walking to the front door.

“We're going right now? James, it's almost midnight.” James started putting his shoes on. “James,” he finally looked up. “Moony…we’re going, plus you haven’t seen Gran Ness in a while.” He handed the glaring boy his shoes. “I’ll start the car.”

Remus stared at his friend, who didn’t even attempt to tame his bed head. He wasn't sure his best friend knew what shape he was in, with his hair sticking in all directions.

He looked back at James' retreating figure and let out a groan. He regretted every decision he made that night.

.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

Sirius:

Sirius’ eyes widened as the diner's door slammed open, and a boy with tan skin and messy hair came stumbling in. “Sorry, Ness, I didn’t realize how light the door was.” His tan skin turned a shade of pink, and he pushed his glasses up, giving her a lazy smile.

“Nice hair, you just got out of bed?” Eunice squinted at the boy, “Where’s Remus?” She then questioned the boy who ran to one of the napkin holders, looking at his hair in the reflection. The boy winced at his reflection, pushing down at his hair. “He’s in the car.”

Sirius looked out the window to see him in the car, his head on the steering wheel, looking like he was contemplating life. The other boy followed Sirius’s gaze and let out a dramatic huff as he stormed out of the diner. The boy yelled at his friend, “Why didn’t you tell me my hair looked like that? I completely embarrassed myself! You’re unbelievable, Moony.” Sirius then turned his gaze back to Eunice, who was smiling at the scene unfolding in front of them.

“Are they always like this?” Sirius asked the older woman, who gave him a nod, “I wouldn’t change them for the world. Don’t tell them I said that, though, I’ve got a reputation.” Sirius looked at her with awe, taking a liking to the woman.

The front door opened, this time with both boys walking in. Sirius did a once-over of the taller boy, blush coating his cheeks. Eunice caught this and smirked at him. “Remus! Nice to finally see you, it’s good to know you’re alive.” Remus smiled sheepishly, and the boy next to him just looked betrayed.

“How come I didn’t get a welcome?” Eunice looked at him. “You slammed my door open and didn’t come to my book club, James.” Sirius let out a small smile, finally knowing the boy's name.

“I don’t read, why would I go to a book club if I don’t read?” Eunice gave him a look, “How about you pick me up from there tomorrow, I’ll show you why?” James nodded before turning to Sirius, looking at him (more so staring),

“You’re Sirius Black. Oh my god,” Remus hit his friend on the shoulder and gave him a look. Sirius sank into the red booth. “James, you act like you’ve never met a famous person before.” Sirius’ eyes shot up at the voice. There was no denying that he thought the voice was insanely attractive.

.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

Remus:

Remus turned to Sirius, taking a good look at him. He looked so tired; the bags under his eyes were prominent. His hair was tied up into a messy bun. His gaze then went to the table, a slice of chocolate cake untouched. He took a deep breath before speaking, “You know…chocolate makes everything better.” Remus sat across from him. Sirius looked at him. “I don’t think cake will fix my problems right now.” Sirius’s voice was rough, not the usual happy-go-lucky voice that Remus was used to hearing come from James’s room. Remus felt bad for the man. “You can stay one week.” Remus scrunched his eyes shut, hoping he wouldn’t regret this decision.

If Remus is being honest, he has seen Toujours Pur, yes. But did he like it? He thought the Blacks were nothing but rich and stuck-up. He’d rather scratch his eyes out than watch another episode. But for some reason, James likes the show. Always pauses when a certain person comes on screen. James denies the fact that he has a celebrity crush on the youngest Black, but Remus knows damn well his friend is lying. Remus also knows that his friend is trying not to freak out over his crush's brother being in front of him.

Sirius’ eyes lit up. “Really?” Remus gave him a nod. “Now are you gonna eat that?” Remus pointed to the cake slice.

.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

Sirius:

Sirius took a bite of the cake, letting out a small hum. He grabbed the spoon that was next to him and handed it to Remus. “Here, I won’t eat all of it.” Remus froze, giving him a soft smile.

Sirius’s face went beet red, he tried to smile back, but for the first time in a while, he made a fool out of himself. His teeth were covered in chocolate, his eyes wide and bloodshot. Remus gave him a crooked smile, which caused Sirius to choke on the mouthful of cake he was downing.

.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

James:

James leaned against the counter, milkshake in hand. “How do you think it's going over there?” Eunice looked at him with disgust. “Swallow before you speak.” James looked at her, letting out a dramatic sigh, “You wound me, Ness!” His hand over his heart, she took one more look at him before taking his milkshake and walking away.

“Wait! Nessie! I’m sorry, I won’t do it again!” he yelled before chasing after her. “Nessie!” She stared at him from behind the counter, still holding his milkshake.

Both Sirius and Remus turned to the sound of James wailing about a milkshake. It seemed James was about to wrestle the older woman. “Nessie, please! I swear I’m a changed man!” James falls to his knees, grabbing onto Eunice’s stained apron. She nudges James away with her foot, causing him to lie on the ground. Eunice looked him in the eye before dumping the shake in the sink. James looked as if he was about to cry.

“Hey man…” Sirius begins, unsure if he wants to disturb the man on the ground. “Are you doing alright?” He asks hesitantly. James responds by giving Sirius two thumbs up.

Chapter Text

Lily:

“There are few people whom I really love, and still fewer of whom I think well. The more I see of the world, the more am I dissatisfied with it; and every day confirms my belief of the inconsistency of all human characters, and of the little dependence that can be placed on the appearance of merit or sense.” Lily read

“Lily dear, what page is that on?” A soft voice asks, “Let me check real..” She looked at the book they were holding, “Andy, where did you even get that book from?!” Lily's jaw dropped, looking at a worn-out copy of ‘A Court of Thorns and Roses’ in the elderly person's hand. She didn’t know if she should be horrified or impressed. “Andy… dear, we’ve been reading Pride and Prejudice. You know this, right?”

A knock was heard at the door: “Gertrude, could you get the door, please?” Lily asked, her voice sweet but condescending, as if she were talking to a child.

Gertrude nodded and made her way to the door. When she returned, she had a man walking behind her. Lily’s eyes widened, taking in the man who had just walked into her house. She inspected him, but her gaze kept going to his arms, not only his arms, but the veins. His red flannel was rolled up the perfect amount, giving Lily a damn good eyefull. Lily returned her gaze to his face, which made the situation worse. She looked at his warm brown eyes, and Lily was a goner.

“Ness, you ready?” The man spoke, and his voice was the cherry on top. Lily's eyes shot to Eunice as the man smiled at the older woman. “James give me a few damn minutes! You weren't supposed to get here until ten past the hour.” The older lady rolled her eyes at him.

“Okay then..” James then leaned against the door frame, looking around the living room, taking in the decorations, which were much better than the ones in his apartment. Bookshelves lined the walls, which were painted a pale yellow color and had flowers that he could only assume were hand-painted. The air smelled clean and faintly of flowers, nothing too strong though. Eventually, James was snapped out of his thoughts when he heard a familiar voice.

“Hey Eunice, we should try this.” Andy leaned toward their partner, giving her the book whilst grinning like a lunatic.

“James, I forgot my glasses. Could you read this for me?” Eunice asked, her voice strained as if she were trying to suppress a laugh. Unfortunately, James did not pick up on the stifled giggle, and he began to make his way toward her. Before Lily could stop him, his eyes were already scanning the page. His face paled in horror at the pornographic words he just read, his mouth opening and closing in shock.

“What the fuck,” he whispered to himself before looking at Andy, his eyes full of disgust and horror “What the actual fuck?” he then turned to Eunice, who in turn let out a giggle, knowing damn well what James just read.

“So, did you write that apology letter yet?” The elderly woman asks as if nothing just happened. James handed her a note, his face still slightly frozen in shock. The note was messily written, and not to mention it was very crinkled, looking as if it was just shoved in his pocket all day, which, if we’re being honest, it probably was. “This won’t do,” Eunice says bluntly, looking at him, shaking her head.

Lily laughed softly at James, who was still looking at the two older people in horror. She turned just in time to see one of her cats, Styles, jumping up on one of her bookshelves. She walks toward him, picking him up off of the shelf and smiling. “James?” She called, and he finally looked at her. Once he did, she saw his eyes widen and gulp. He seemed to be frozen in place. “You know my name?” His voice was quiet, but he looked ecstatic. Lily gave him a smug grin. “That's what Ness called you, didn’t she?” She hugged Styles closer to her chest, smirking at James.

.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

James:

James didn’t know what to say, so he stared for an absurdly long time. Everyone was watching him, waiting for him to say something. He didn’t speak, not one word. “Do you want something to drink, love?” Lily asks after a moment of him not speaking, the term of endearment slipping out. James’s brain malfunctioned. He looked at her, the green sundress hugging her curves, her wavy copper hair draping over her freckled shoulders. James felt his mouth dry, “Yes, please.” He finally muttered.

“This is pathetic,” James heard Eunice whisper to Andy. He couldn’t help but agree with Eunice this one time.

Lily grins and sets down the cat. She starts to move towards the kitchen, but manages to trip, and it just so happens that James is the only thing that she can use to catch herself. It also just so happens that in doing that, one hand lands directly on James’s chest, the other grabbing onto his forearm. He grabbed onto her waist, trying to stabilize her. “Oh gods, I’m so sorry,” Lily gasps as she pulls away. “Why are you sorry? It was just an accident.” James smiles back in return, his heart pounding.

.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

Lily:

It was not an accident.

.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

Eunice:

“How is this worse than the time we met?” Eunice whispered to Andy, they looked at her and shrugged, “I didn’t think anyone could beat us, this is so pathetic.” Andy responds in a mock whisper, but it was definitely loud enough to be heard by everyone in the room. Eunice let out a small laugh, watching the two people in front of her.

.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

Sirius:

It was his first day rooming with Remus and James, and it wasn’t as terrible as he’d thought it would be. Sure, the place was small for all three of them, but he saw how cared for it was; he could tell it was a nice place they called home. There were plants in every windowsill, there were a lot, probably too many if he was being honest. But it was a nice change from the fake plants and extravagant paintings hung at his house, no, that wasn’t his house anymore, he needed to stop thinking like this. The apartment, his new home, smelled like cinnamon and vanilla. Sirius thought it was a weird and oddly domestic scene for the two guys living there.

Sirius had spent most of the day with Remus, finding him more intimidating than James. “Can I ask you a question?” Remus asked, seemingly trying to sound annoyed as he handed Sirius a patterned mug with tea, eying Sirius slightly. Sirius nodded and crossed the room to the worn-out couch, sitting crisscrossed.

“Why’d you leave?” Sirius tensed, looking down at the mug.

“Felt like it,” Sirius shrugs, his French accent slipping through, as it usually does when he’s uncomfortable. He does not want to spill his guts out to random strangers, especially not Remus. The taller man gives Sirius a deadpan look, Sirius feels his gut twist as he sees that he doesn’t want to mess up this early, he needs Remus to like him.

“Mother hated me anyway,” Sirius adds, trying desperately to earn Remus’s approval, but not willing to actually tell the truth. Remus didn’t say anything, and he hardly even looked back at Sirius. He only nodded and grabbed a book from the side table.

Without another word, Remus opened the book and started to read.

.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

James:

“I’ve just met the love of my life!” James shouted as he burst through the door, completely oblivious to the tension.

Remus looks up from the book he’s reading on the couch. Sirius paused the TV, already looking at home. “No, Remus, I’m telling you she’s the love of my life! I don’t wanna hear you say otherwise!” James made his way toward them. “Yeah? What’s her name?” Remus questioned him, his eyes back on the book. “Where’d you meet her?” Sirius grinned.

“Ness wanted me to pick her up from book club. Oh- Moons your grandma and Andy? Absolutely freaky.” James shuddered at the memory, already getting sidetracked. “Anyways the girl is gorgeous, her green eyes and fiery hair, and don’t get me started on her voice. Boys, I’m in love!” He dramatically flopped onto Remus’s lap, not caring that his words sounded as if they were directly from a fanfiction written by a couple to teenagers. “And her name?” Remus asked

James paused, “Oh my gods… I forgot to ask for her name!”

.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

Remus:

Remus called his Gran that night, “You took him to see Lils, didn't you?” Remus asked his grandma. He heard her laugh on the other end, making him smile. “He was a mess, Cariad. I wish you were there to see, I’ve never been more proud of Lily.”

Remus hesitated before asking, “Gran? What else did you do to James while he was there?”

Giggles could be heard from the other end of the line.

Chapter Text

James:

James loved early mornings; he loved the sun peeking through the blinds, lighting up his room. What he loved most of all were moments with his guitar, he let the soft melodies flow from his fingertips, and all thoughts and pressure vanished from his mind. James smiled softly at the feeling of the guitar string underneath his fingertips. He looked out the window, watching the clouds move as he lightly plucked the string. He heard a light knock on his door, disrupting the stillness.

“Come in,” James called, guessing it was Sirius since Remus never gets up early.

“Hey,” James turned his attention to the man who made his way to the end of James' bed.

“Are you okay?” James asked with his eyes full of concern, and he stood up, placing the guitar down gently before taking a seat next to Sirius.

Sirius took a shaky breath. “I couldn’t sleep, heard you were up.” He shrugged. James took a good look at him; his eyes were red and puffy from what looked like crying.

“Sirius?” James asked again. Sirius looked at him before he let out a sob, “I’m sorry, I’m so sorry.” James pulled him into a hug without hesitation. “Why are you sorry?” he asked gently, pulling back to look him in the eyes.

“I look like a fucking idiot.” Sirius chokes out in a half sob, half laugh. James looked at him in disbelief and hugged him tighter. “Because you’re crying?” James asked with a slight scoff in disbelief. “You don't look like an idiot. It’s ok to need help. ou shouldn’t have to carry everything on your own”

For a moment, James felt the weight of his own words.

.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

Remus:

It was too quiet for Remus’ liking; James is usually up by now, blasting music and dancing wildly in the kitchen, attempting to make breakfast. Remus walked to James's room, peering his head through the door. “James?” Remus gently called. He was not expecting to see his bestfriend cuddled up with Sirus fucking Black and fast asleep. He noticed the tear stains on their newest roommate. Shaking his head, he left the room, leaving them alone with a bitter taste on his tongue.

Remus winced as a sharp pain shot up his leg, forcing him to grip the wall for support. He took a deep breath before making his way to the couch, sitting down with a sigh. He let the tension from his shoulders go at ease. Reaching for his phone on the side table, he unlocked it and sent a quick text to Peter.

Petey boy🐀

Remus: You will never believe who’s staying with us.

Peter: Oh my gods is it Conan Gray?!?!

Remus: Pete…No..

Peter: Chris Evans😍
Don’t play with me. Have you seen that man?? America’s ass 🇺🇸🦅👅🧴👊💥

Remus: why are you like this
Sirius. Black.

Peter: YOURE JOKING.
coming over rn.
i’m On my way! 🏃
I fucking hate autocorrect.

Remus clenched his eyes shut, leaning his head against the couch and just sat there, taking in the calm before the storm.

“Good morning, Moons,” James said, sitting beside him. He then rested his head on Remus’ shoulder. Remus gave him a half assed smiile in return. James then turned his head to get a good look at him. “Are you okay, Moony?”

“Legs,” the lanky boy said before resting his head on James.

One thing you should know about Remus’ best friend is that he lives for physical touch (If you couldn’t tell already). Remus was convinced his friend wouldn’t survive a whole day without some form of contact.

“Pete's coming over in a bit,” Remus said casually. James shifted, smacking both of them in the head as he sat up.

“Peter's coming over?!” James shot up from his spot on the couch and tidied the place up for his childhood best friend.

Remus shook his head at his friend's antics. “When do you think he-”

BANG

The door flew open, and Peter walked in with his arms open, waiting for a hug.

“Did you miss me, Jamsie?” The boy batted his eyelashes at James, and James sprinted to him, jumping into his arms.

“Oh, how I’ve missed you terribly!” He wailed, pretending to sob on Peter’s shoulder as he was held bridal style.

“Where have you been?!” James demanded, slipping out of his friend's arms.

His pale skin flushed a deep shade of red. “I’ve been busy,” he shrugged. James gasped and turned to Remus, his eyes widening.

“Did our boy finally get himself a girlfriend?” He said, pointing a finger at Peter. “Oh, you so did! How long have you been hiding this? Does Marls know?”

His eyes widened

Remus zoned the rest of the conversation, his eyes drifting toward James’s closed door. His mind wandered. How did James and Sirius end up in that situation?

Remus turned to James, “Why is Sirius in your room?” James froze and looked at him.

“He needed someone to talk to, and you know, my doors are always open,” James shrugged. He glanced back at Peter.

Peter's eyes widened. “Wait, you were serious about him being here? How did that even happen? Wait…isn’t the new episode out tonight? D’you think he’d watch it with us?”

James looked uneasy, a thought struck him, but he kept quiet, his gaze back on his closed door. Then, snapping his head back at Peter, he began to speak again, “Do you think we’ll know what happened between them?”

“I doubt they’ll show it,” Came a tired voice behind Peter, making him jump.

.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

Sirius:

“Are you sure you want to watch this?” James asked his voice soft and laced with sympathy.

Sirius just nodded, looking at the two other men on the couch. Remus had a blanket over his lap, fidgeting with the frayed sleeves of his worn jumper, looking more bored than anything. Peter stared at the screen impatiently, wanting to start the episode. And James, James looked like a nervous wreck.

Sirius felt anxiety bubbling in him, he felt a weight on his chest thinking of all the things his family would say.

“Start it,” He sat on his hands, hoping to hide the trembling in front of his new friends. James gently put his head on Sirius’ shoulder as his eyes were glued to the screen.

“Previously on Toujours Pur.”

Sirius felt the air removed from his body, as if he was winded. It was his little brother, the brother he had to leave behind. He took a shaky breath before scanning his brother's appearance.

His curls were still perfectly placed on his head, but the light had gone from his eyes. His skin was pale, almost sickly, and his cheekbones more defined. He looked like he was drowning.

Then she appeared, his heart started to race with anxiety. No guilt was shown on her face. Her posture was straight, ankles lightly crossed together, her hair slicked into a neat bun. She sat in the interview chair as if nothing had happened, with a sick smile on her face.

“Are we talking about him now?” The woman sneered at the screen

Sirius tensed, and James only cuddled into him further, letting Sirius know ‘I’m here, I’m not going anywhere’.

Chapter Text

Sirius:

“He’s not my brother anymore.” The words echoed through Sirius’s mind. The image of his brother saying them in that interview is playing on loop in his head.

His hands were shaking, sweat was dripping, he was cold. Sirius tried to get up from his place on the couch, only to realize he couldn't breathe. His quick sips of air turned to gasps, turned to him heaving, trying to get enough oxygen to his mind to get a glass of water.

He’s not my brother anymore.

No amount of vicious words from his mother, bruises from his father, beatings over the smallest things compares to how those words made him feel.

He’s nauseous. He tries to stand up again, still gasping for air. He makes it a few steps before collapsing, his whole body shaking. He hears footsteps come closer as someone rushes to him. He hears his name, but his mind is racing, hardly processing any of the words being spoken to him.

“Sirius?” It was muffled as if it were underwater. Sirius couldn’t focus; he couldn’t see. His shirt felt too tight, like it was strangling him. He clawed at the fabric, trying to make it stop. Please, make it stop.

“Sirius?” The voice was closer, now full of fear.

Everything was slipping.

He wasn’t in control anymore, and this time he couldn’t do anything to stop it.

.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

James:

James was crouched beside Sirius, “Sirius?” he said again, softer this time

Sirius finally looked up, tears running down his face. His lips were parting like he was trying to say something.

“I had no choice,” Sirius rasped out, his gaze at the ground.

James looked at Remus, who stood nearby. His eyes widened at the view in front of him.

“Sirius?” It was Remus. Sirius’ head snapped up at his voice.

“I had no fucking choice okay! I don’t want to hear it from you! Not today! Especially not today.” Sirius stood up, his legs trembling slightly. And then he was gone, going to his temporary room.

.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

Regulus:

“First Andromeda, now Sirius?” The voice dripping with venom slithered from behind him.

Regulus didn’t have to turn to know who it was, but he did. His cousin stood there, her eyes wild. She leaned against the counter, facing him with her ringed fingers tapping on the surface.

“Do we have to talk about this now?” Regulus eyed the cameras on the ceiling, which were still blinking red. They were watching, always watching.

She gave him a sharp smile, her teeth white and perfectly straight. “Why not?” Her voice dropped to a whisper, “ They’ll eat this shit up”

“So,” she said, tilting her head, curling a strand of hair with her finger. “Have you talked to him?”

Her voice softened.

“Auntie Walburga won’t like that, Reggie.” It sounded like a warning, like she didn’t want to see what would happen next.

His jaw clenched, “Don’t call me that.”

The nickname his brother once called him now felt like a slap to the face. She knew it, too.

.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

Sirius:

Sirius sat curled on the bed, his forehead pressed to his knees, replaying the episode in his head.

A knock was heard at the door, but Sirius didn’t move.

“Sirius?” There was a moment of silence. “Can I come in?” He lifted his head and sighed, his eyes were red, hair a mess. He dragged himself off the bed, making his way to the door.

“Hi,” Remus gave him a soft smile, “can we talk?” Sirius nodded and opened the door wider. He noticed Remus walk with a limp toward the bed. He hesitated before asking, “Are you okay?”

Remus didn’t answer right away, his expression turned cold.

“Shouldn’t I be asking you that?” He replied, sitting at the edge of the bed.

Sirius looked down. “Why are you here?” He felt defeated.

Remus didn’t answer, just looking at the wall.

“You don’t even like me.” He whispered

Still, Remus sat there, not denying it. His jaw tightened, and he turned to Sirius, “I know what it’s like…. to feel out of control,” his voice was careful, as if he was waiting for a bomb to detonate.

“I came to see if you were okay.” There was an uncertainty in that. Remus wasn’t sure if he had the right to care.

Another knock was heard at the door, and Sirius let out a sigh of relief.

“Hey, Sirius?” James pushed the door open, pausing as his eyes landed on the two of them on the bed. His eyebrow arched.

“Remus?” His voice full of amusement, “didn’t expect you here moons,” he wiggled his eyebrows.

Sirius rolled his eyes. “Yes, James?”

“Oh, right!” He clapped his hands together, finally remembering what he was there for. “My friend Marlene is gonna be at Nessie's diner and she invited me. I was wondering if you wanted a change of scenery? Both of you.”

.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

Eunice:

Eunice lit up the moment her two favorite girls walked through the door, “Lily, Marlene! What are you two doing here?” She hurried around the counter, wrapping her arms around both girls.

“We missed you too much, Ness,” Marlene said with a wink.

Lily rolled her eyes at her friend but still smiled. “We needed a break,” she shrugged.

“I also invited some friends,” Marlene smirked at Eunice.

Eunice’s face paled. “Please don’t say my grandson and his friends are coming here.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” The girl said innocently and made her way to sit at a booth.

Eunice groaned. “I thought we were gonna have girl time, we all know I could use it. Those boys drive me insane. I had to restock the pantry twice because of Remus and James alone.” She shook her head at the memory.

“Lily you’ve met James, haven’t you, dear?” Eunice let out a little giggle.

Marlene’s head snapped toward the redhead. “Wait Lils, have you already met James?”

“Oh yeah, she has.” Eunice gave her a knowing smirk.

The redhead's cheeks flushed. “It’s not like-”

“No!” Marlene cried, knowing her best friend, “You like him?!” The bleach blonde exclaimed, “We’re talking about the same James, right, Ness?”

“Yes, love, that James. I had him pick me up from book club the other day.” Marlene looked at Lily in disbelief.

“And here I thought you had standards, Lily Evans.”

.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

James:

The moment James stepped into the diner, his eyes locked on the redhead. He spun on his heel and made a full 180 out the door.

Remus gave him a weird look, then grabbed his shoulders, steering him back inside.

“No! Remus, you don’t understand.” James hissed, trying to fight back. His body flailed as Remus manhandled him.

“No, I understand.” Remus gave him a sweet smile. “You’re causing a scene, Prongsie.”

Sirius was amused by the two of them, silently trailing behind them.

Remus led them both to the booth where Lily and Marlene were seated, both of girls watching them.

James dropped into the seat next to Marlene, the nerves eating him alive. He instantly threw an arm around her shoulder, trying to find some comfort.

“Do you have any concept of personal space?” Marlene shoved him, then leaned over James to look at Sirius. “I’m Marlene, but my friends call me Marls.”

Sirius gave her a nod.

The redhead then smiled at Sirius, “I’m Lily.”

James’s eyes went wide. Lily was such a pretty name. He felt like it suited her. He nearly cried with relief.

WHACK.

An elbow slammed into his ribs.

“Ow! What the hell, Marls?!?” He yelled, clutching his side.

Marlene gave Lily a look, “You know what that was for.”

.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

Remus:

Remus tried to be present, but his mind kept wandering. His pain was only getting worse; he winced, the throbbing pain only got worse, it was now sharp and insistent.

He shifted in his seat, wincing as he tried to find a position that didn’t make it worse. Across the table, James shot him a look. He was concerned.

Remus met his gaze and shook his head slightly. I’m fine.

He wasn’t, but what would it do if he said anything? It’s not necessarily a problem that could be fixed.

His fingers dug into his thigh, gripping the muscle tight like that would make it stop.

.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

Sirius:

Sirius smiled as he saw Eunice walk over, her hand holding a tray of drinks. He didn’t remember anyone ordering anything.

Without a word, she handed a milkshake to James, his face instantly lit up and took it gratefully. Sirius chuckled lightly at the memory of the man on the ground yelling about his milkshake.

Eunice slid into the edge of the booth, making herself comfortable.

“How are you, dear?” She asked, her voice gentle.

“I’m….” Sirius hesitated, glancing around the table, smiling at the people who became his new reality. “I’m doing okay,” his voice quiet but sincere.

Eunice smiled, before patting his cheek. She then moved her attention to her grandson, her eyes narrowing.

Her smile faded “Remus?”

She was already scanning him, catching the tension in his shoulders, he sat too stiffly, it was like he was bracing for something.

“I’m fine, Gran.” he gritted out, gripping onto the glass of water in front of him.

Sirius watched him, curiosity stirring again. What was he hiding? Sirius then let his gaze drift, not wanting to stare.

Across the table, James was deep in conversation with Lily, his cheeks flushed and eyes bright. Sirius couldn’t help but smile at the two of them.

Next to James, Marlene sat scrolling through her phone. Her eyes suddenly widened and slapped James' arm repeatedly.

“What? Ow! Marlene, can you stop hitting me?! What is this? Smack James day?!” James yelped, he whipped his head toward her. His jaw dropped when she shoved her phone in his face.

“Why is there an edit of my mum on your for you page?!” He shouted, looking at his friend in betrayal. “And why the fuck do you have it saved?!?”

Marlene gave him a wicked smirk, as if she had been waiting for this moment. “I have an entire folder dedicated to her.”

Then, after a beat, she tilted her head. “I keep forgetting you're a nepo baby.”

Lily choked on her drink. Sirius’ eyes widened at the revelation.

“Wait, your mum is Euphemia Potter?” Realization dawned on her face. “Oh my gods. Marlene sent me an edit of her last week”

James looked scandalized, “did you like it?!”

Lily bit her lip from trying not to laugh, “she’s hot! What do you want from me?”

James let out a frantic groan and slammed his head on the table, his glasses flying off his face.

His forehead was against the table, “Marlene,” he mumbled into the wood. “You’re never coming over again.”

Marlene barely glanced at him, still looking at her phone , “too late Jamie boy. I’ve got her number.” She smirked. “I text your mum more than I text my own.”

.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

Marlene:

She took a picture of James with his head still slammed into the table. Her fingers immediately hit messages.

Effie 😍

Marlene: [1 image]
he told me I can never come over again

Effie: What did you do to my poor boy now?
You can come over anytime you want, love.

Marlene: I showed him an edit of you. You looked absolutely stunning by the way.

Effie: I’m flattered, Jannu 💋

Marlene squeaked and hit James shoulder once again.

“What now?” He groaned, lifting his head. She held out her phone. He took it scanning the texts.

“Oh my gods.” He looked at her mortified, “she used the nickname.” James stared at the screen like it betrayed him.

Her phone buzzed again.

Effie 😍

Effie: Tell him not to pout. He’s just jealous he didn’t get my looks.
[1 image]

Marlene looked at the picture and wheezed. It was a picture of James caught off guard.

Another buzz

Effie😍

Effie: Look how cute my boy is💕

Marlene laughed and turned her phone to show the table.

James looked like he wanted the world to swallow him whole.

“Delete it. Delete everything”

“Too late, Jannu. This one’s going in my folder too.”

Chapter Text

Sirius:

Sirius knew he shouldn’t have posted that story. If Sirius was being honest, he didn’t know why he posted it.

Part of him wanted to see what would happen. The other part was a little more pathetic. He was waiting, hoping.

For a reply from Regulus.

He sat on his bed, phone in hand. Watching as the views were rising. His heartbeat picked up once he saw his brother's user.

He gnawed at his lower lip, hoping his brother would reply to his story.

Minutes passed.
Nothing.
Not even a like.

Sirius got up from his spot and made his way to the kitchen.

He stopped in his tracks when he heard James’s voice. “I think we should let him stay, come on, Moons, just think about it.”

He closed his eyes, hard. He didn’t want to hear the answer, not yet at least. He was starting to like it here, liking them.

“James, I don’t know….” His voice was quiet, hesitant. “Is it really a good idea?”

Sirius’ stomach turned.

“I’m telling you, Remus, it’ll all be worth it. Just give him a chance.”

.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

Regulus:

When he woke up, the last thing Regulus expected to see was an Instagram story from his brother. His stomach dropped, but he still tapped the notification.

“What the fuck?" he muttered under his breath, glancing around the room to make sure no cameras were rolling.

He looked back at the screen, the story captioned “got everyone I need♡♡”

What. The. Fuck.

Sirius was in a red booth, laughing as people surrounded him. They were people Regulus didn’t recognize. People who weren’t him.

He stared at the photo, something sharp twisting inside his chest.

With a quick, angry tap, he shut his phone off, shoving it in his pocket, and made his way down the stairs.

As soon as he hit that bottom step, he regretted it.

His mother sat on the velvet couch, scrolling through her phone. She was draped into designer clothes like she was about to walk a runway.

“Regulus!” She said coolly, still scrolling on her phone. “I see you finally decided to join us.”

He wished he hadn’t.

.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

“Did you see Sirius’ story?” Narcissa's voice floated through the kitchen.

Regulus froze near the doorway. They hadn’t noticed him yet.

“I didn’t think he had the balls to post,” Bellatrix replied, lifting a mug to her lips, her gaze flickering to the entrance.

Her eyes met Regulus’. A beat passed, then she smirked.

“Do you think he’s trying to start something?” She added, turning to grab an apple from the bowl on the counter.

“Oh!” Narcissa turned, startled. “Regulus, I didn’t see you there.”

She shot a warning glance at Bellatrix.

Bellatrix just shrugged and took a bite of her apple, smiling as she looked at Regulus’ face.

.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

Sirius:

Sirius went back to the room, his phone vibrating nonstop with notifications. He tossed it on the bed, then hesitated. His eyes lingered on the screen.

Regret hit him hard.

Eventually, he picked his phone up. One glance and his eyes widened.

He was already trending.

“Fuck,” He whispered.

He opened Twitter and started scrolling through the posts.

“Hey, Sirius?” James’s voice rang from down the hall.

Sirius stared at his screen for a little longer, then shut his phone off and made his way to the kitchen.

He stepped into the room, instantly wishing he had never.

“I’m sorry,” Sirius said quickly, his eyes darting to both of them. “I didn’t know it’d be this crazy.” Sirius winced, looking at the look on Remus’ face.

“How did they find my user…?” Remus asked, genuinely horrified. “I don’t follow anyone besides James…. I don’t even post!”

Sirius huffed a laugh, almost apologetic.

“They find everything, it’s terrifying.”

.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

James:

He caved. That night, James spent hours scrolling through the tweets about him.

At first, he found it amusing; they had just discovered who his parents were.

Then it hit him.

Thousands of people now know who he is.

His parents had spent his entire life hiding him from the spotlight. And in one day, he became Sirius Black's friend.

He pushed the phone aside and got up from his bed. He crossed the room to grab his guitar, which was the only thing that made sense to him.

He started to strum, letting the worry bleed out.

His door creaked open, Remus’s head popping in.

“It sounds good,” he smiled at his friend.

He stepped inside and sat next to James, a journal in his hands.

“Wanna try that song we’ve been working on?”

And for the first time in a while, James felt like it was going to be okay.

.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

Remus:

Remus liked these moments with James. James seemed more at ease while playing his guitar; it was like all the noise inside him finally settled.

They’ve been writing music together for as long as Remus could remember. Sometimes Peter joined in, hitting the drums.

But this was different.

This was when Remus saw the passion flow out of James.

Chapter Text

Regulus:

The tweets filled his screen. They were loud and messy. Regulus didn’t need them to tell him what he already knew.

Sirius ran away; it was his choice.

Still, Regulus scrolled. Everyone had something to say, even if none of them knew the whole story.

“He left with strangers.”
“What happened to the Black brothers? They were so close??”
“He looks so happy!! I’m happy for him”
“Regulus deserves better.”

He told himself it didn’t matter; he was just curious. His thumb moved faster with each flick, like maybe the truth he wanted was buried somewhere deeper in the feed.

Eventually, something softer caught his eye. A tagged account @theliteralsun.

It was quiet, no drama. It was video after video, each one filled with warmth and light.

Grainy clips of guitar riffs and soft melodies filled the screen. In each one, a man sat beyond the camera’s full focus, the light kissing his skin like it belonged to him, like it was drawn to him. In some videos, you could hear him humming. It was quiet, like he didn’t think people would hear him. Those felt more personal, like glimpses into something private. Something not meant to be shared.

His mind drifted back to Sirius. How did Sirius meet these people? How had he slipped so easily into a new life? Regulus couldn’t help the way it made his chest tighten, like something hollow was echoing inside of him.

The knife twisted deeper. Not just because Sirius left, but because he never looked back.

.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

Sirius:

He pushed open James’s door, expecting noise, music, or even a dumb movie. What he didn’t expect was silence.

James and Remus were curled up on the bed, limbs tangled like it was the most natural thing for them. Sheets of paper were scattered around them, half written lyrics, chords scribbled in messy ink. Two coffee cups were on James’s nightstand, his guitar rested across his lap. His fingers were still around the neck like he’d fallen asleep mid-strum.
He hadn’t meant to interrupt. He hadn’t even meant to come in.
His eyes found Remus first. He looked… soft. Peaceful. His curls were tousled, his face relaxed. No tension around his mouth. No crease between his brows. His hand was resting lightly on James’s arm.
Sirius stood in the doorway, unmoving.
He didn’t know why, but he has a feeling he couldn’t explain.

Then James shifted beside Remus, breaking the stillness.

“Sirius?” He croaked, his voice thick with sleep. His glasses crooked against his face, and he looked confused.

“Sorry,” Sirius said quietly. “Didn’t mean to wake you.”

“You didn’t,” James said, pushing himself up slightly and accidentally elbowing Remus in the process. Remus shifted with a grunt, but didn’t wake. “Are you okay?”

“Yeah,” Sirius lied, forcing a small smile. “Just wondering why it was so quiet. You’re usually up by now.”

James rubbed his eyes. “Remus and I stayed up late working on a song,” he said, like it was the most natural thing in the world.

Sirius looked back at Remus. He didn’t know the man wrote songs.

.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

James, now dressed in worn jeans and a red hoodie, strolled over to where Sirius was slouched on the couch.

“Come on,” He said, holding out his hand. “Get up, I’m taking you somewhere.”

Sirius blinked up at him. “Where are we going?”

James grinned. “We, my friend, are getting piercings.”

“Piercings?” Sirius raised his eyebrow.

“Yes, piercings. You’ve been moping, so let's do something fun!” His hand was still reaching out, “I will wait like this all day if I have to.”

.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

“Why did I let you talk me into this?” James groaned, eyes squeezed shut as he lay shirtless on the table.
“It was your idea to get the piercings,” Sirius said with a shrug. “I just suggested we match. You didn’t have to agree.”
“Just do it already!” James cried, gripping the edge of the table as the piercer moved in.
“Oh fuck! AH FUCK! You motherfuck AHHH!”
“And… all done!” the piercer announced cheerfully, stepping back.
James blinked up at her, chest heaving. “Wait… that was just one?”
She smiled sweetly. “Would you like the other one pierced now?”
He stared at her, absolutely horrified. “You only did one?!”
Sirius smiled at the scene, his smile quickly fading, realizing he was next.

・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

Remus:

He sighed, already regretting it, as he picked up his buzzing phone. A FaceTime call from James.
The screen opened to a chaotic close-up of skin. James’s nipple, to be exact.

A freshly pierced nipple.
“Remus!! Look!!” James beamed from behind the camera, far too proud.
Remus recoiled, nearly dropping his phone. “What the actual fuck, James?”
He squinted at the screen, horrified. “Why? Just—why?”
From somewhere off-camera, Sirius could be heard laughing. Loudly.
“Sirius got both of his done! I only got one!”

・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

James:

The door swung open with less flair than usual, and in stumbled James and Sirius, moving like two wounded soldiers back from battle.

Both of them were wincing dramatically as the fabric of their shirts hit their fresh piercings. James was gripping the hem of his hoodie, like it personally betrayed him. Sirius looked smug… and like he might cry if anyone bumped into him too hard.

Remus looked up from the book on his lap. His eyes scanned both of them and immediately clenched his eyes, trying to ignore the sight.

“What the hell?” He pinched the bridge of his nose. “What would possess either of you to do that?” He shook his head at them both.

Sirius shrugged, “James said I needed to have fun.”

Remus stared at him, “So you pierced your nipples for fun?”

“Exactly,” Sirius winked at him, then winced.

Remus then turned to James, “And you. Only one? Really?”

James flopped onto the couch, crying out in pain immediately. “It was a terrible experience, Remus! 10/10 do not recommend.”
Sirius chuckled as he lowered himself into the armchair, moving like it might explode beneath him. “He screamed like he was being exorcised.”
“I thought I was dying!” James snapped.
Remus snorted despite himself. “You’re such a baby.”
“I am not!” James protested, pointing at Sirius. “He just has a weird pain tolerance and questionable taste in life decisions.”
Remus shook his head, grinning now despite himself. “You’re both idiots.”
“Idiots with matching nipple jewelry,” Remus muttered, returning to his book.
James groaned dramatically. “It’s itchy, Remus.”
Sirius perked up. “James. Tattoos should be next.”
James’ face lit up, grinning at the idea.
“No.” Remus didn’t even look up this time.

・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

Remus:

He reached for his phone, smiling softly as he opened a group chat that would appreciate the madness.
