Work Text:
Split Fate
“Khun, if your job is dangerous maybe you should wear protection.”
Big stares blankly at the small sprite of a teen that was standing beside him with a coffee.
How was this Big's life?
When he met Porchay it was by a twist of fate. He noticed the youth a few weeks ago when he was being chased by some unsavory individual. He only interfered because the youngest Theerapanyakul ordered him to keep an eye on the kid.
Big was on light duty but it didn’t mean he wasn’t still working.
Afterwards his relations with Porchay Kittisawasd bloomed and here he was having coffee with the frantic Wik fan at a secluded cat cafe.
Big snorted. “We don’t do kevlar.”
Porchay pouts and sets the coffee cup in front of Big and huff. “You work as a bodyguard and your arm has been in a sling before Khun. Maybe you should consider those lightweight body armors.”
Big couldn’t believe that this polite kid could have been raised by Porsche. Then again the kid made him so concerned with his lack of survival instinct that he continued association with the kid. “It’s uncomfortable.”
“Three to seven pounds extra padding is worth it because you would be alive.” Porchay picks up his own coffee. “Just saying…Khun. Also Hia has been gone for a while and I don’t want to see something happen to you.”
Big finding himself softening. It wasn't Porchay's fault he was just an innocent that didn’t know his brother also was working in this line of work. “I will only do so if you stop calling me Khun.” He leans forward and ruffles Porchay hair feeling how soft and fluffy it is. “Call me P’Big.”
“Okay P’ Big.”
Observing Porchay he took a sip of his coffee.
It wouldn’t be too much to do what the kid wanted.
A few months later when Big was shot in the chest he was glad that he listened to Porchay’s concern. He also promised inwardly to buy Porchay enough cake for his whole life.
“You look like a padded bear with that gear.” Porsche had made an off commentary.
Big retorted, “At least your little brother cares enough to tell me to wear one.”
Their relationships as coworkers still haven’t improved. Currently Porsche was the minor family head and Big was reassigned to Porchay. He was there watching the difficulties of Porchay and Kim and the stages of grief that the young boy went through.
“P’Big. It hurts a lot. Have you ever loved someone?”
“Yes.” Big watching a glimmer of himself in Porchay. He reach out and tousle Porchay’s hair, “But I had learned that even with that love it’s better to love yourself more.”
Sniffles and tears trail down Porchay’s eyes and like any child that seeks some comfort he hugs onto Big letting the tears trickle into the fabric of his shirt. “It’s okay.” Big was comforting Porchay like he was comforting himself. “You are going to be okay.”
That day when Big decided to help Porchay his life had changed. He felt himself heal from the pain of watching the person he loved fall for another. It was cathartic as he held Porchay observing and feeling the same pain and slowly he didn’t have any regret.
“We both will be okay.”
