Chapter Text
Her heartbeat was deafening. Ellie couldn't believe what she had done, tears fell freely, as if all the pain she was feeling was overflowing out of her. Pregnant. She killed a pregnant woman, an innocent baby wouldn't live because of her.
- Owen!
Ellie heard a voice from afar, her survival instinct spoke louder, the room where she was had no way out, the only way was to hide in a corner and shoot by surprise whoever was coming.
- Mel! Owen!
The voice got closer, shouting names that were probably of the people she had just killed. Ellie pointed her gun towards the bodies, where the person who was coming would come from. The door opened and a sound like choking and fright came from whoever entered
- Owen…
Then she appeared, Abby, she was so shocked to see her friends dead on the floor that she didn't look at the corner where Ellie was, who could only see an intense red, anger took over her body and made her shoot.
- AAAAAAAAAAAAH!
The shot hit Abby's knee and shattered it, just like she did with Joel. Abby reached for the holster on her leg, but Ellie was faster and kicked the gun away. When she turned to look Joel’s assassin in the eye before killing her, she felt an impact and something tearing her arm. She looked in the direction of what could have hit her and saw a boy holding a bow. It was an arrow, but it only grazed her. Ellie didn't want to kill a child, but she needed to at least immobilize him. With long, fast steps, she went towards the boy, who tried to punch her, but Ellie grabbed his arm and pushed him against her. With a move she had practiced so many times with Jesse, she immobilized him and held him tightly by the neck, temporarily cutting off his air circulation. The boy struggled hard but soon lost consciousness and slowly fell until Ellie put him on the ground, unconscious.
- Nooooo! Leave him alone!!
Abby screamed and tried to crawl towards them. Turning her attention to the woman who had destroyed her life, Ellie went to Abby and with a strong kick to her injured leg she saw the woman scream in agony. The next minutes were filled with the red of her anger, punches and kicks and screams, then moans, then nothing more. Joel's gun was there, next to Abby's massacred body, who was still breathing, but very weakly. Her hand went to the gun, picked it up, pulled the trigger, and fired. It was done. Ellie had done it. After having traveled so far, killed so many people, she had managed to get her revenge.
Seconds or minutes passed in which Ellie could only look at the muscular and defeated body of the woman who had killed Joel. She looked around, at the carnage she herself had caused there in that room. She thought about what she should do, where to go. "I should die" was the first thought that came to mind, her hand brought the gun to her head, she felt the barrel on her temple and Joel came to her mind. On the porch, playing the guitar, their last conversation was about to happen. Her arm went limp, the gun fell to the ground and Ellie let out the breath she had been holding, "I can't do this".
She fell to the ground and cried everything she had been holding in for the past 3 and a half months, it was as if a truck had come off her back. When the tears eventually dried and nothing else came, she began to think about what to do. She knew herself very well, what she had just done there, especially with the baby, would disturb her every night, day, and hour that she was awake. She was no longer the kind of person who would be welcome in Jackson or anywhere. Dina knew everything about her past now, and she could see how the girl was looking at her, just different. Ellie wouldn't be able to hide anything from the fearless and stubborn girl she was in love with. She would tell Dina what she had done and inevitably the girl would hate her or just walk away, with good reason, after all who would stay with a baby killer? And Tommy… Ellie couldn’t stand his look of disappointment, after all, the youngest Miller was an extension of Joel, and it would be impossible to feel like she had failed again, every day. It would be better this way, for everyone. Tommy has Maria and their son, Dina has Jesse, the father of her child, and a capable and responsible man to take care of them.
"I have to disappear."
With that in mind, Ellie stood up, scanned the room looking for useful things to take, grabbed the gun that was in Owen’s hand, a large map that was on the table and left the room, took the same path back and in the room she had entered through, took what food she found and a box of ammunition and left the building. She went to the boat she had arrived in and started it up, she wouldn’t go very far in this storm, she just needed to get out of the aquarium and get away from that island. Get away from Seattle.
