Once upon a time, two races ruled over the earth: Humans and Monsters. Monsters, born of love, were made of magic, capable of many spells. Humans, born of the earth, were made of flesh, capable of changing fate itself.

Humans feared the Monsters, for they were able to absorb Human souls, increasing their power. A war broke out due to mistrust and fear, with many species of Monster taking dire hits and going extinct. Both sides took massive damage, but in the end, Monsters were victorious, Humans fleeing to far off lands, nearly extinct themselves.

Despite their victory, however, Monsters were greatly weakened, joining together to form a place of their own. Grand tales of their fallen comrades were written into the history books, so they may be remembered for generations to come. The Monsters settled into a calm, domestic life for many, many years, never seeing hide or hair of a human until one fateful day.

A small one, a child, with fiery red hair and eyes as maroon as the blood in their veins, stumbled out of the forest surrounding the village, starved and exhausted. A kind family of Monsters took the child in, raising them alongside their own son, Asriel. The Human and the boy became the best of friends, spending their nights whispering to each other of a land beyond the light, a world they made their own. They wrote from the epic tales of fallen Monsters to fill the land they created with the magic in their hearts, drawing from their own minds. With the bond between a Human and a Monster, the magic that was produced opened a door into the dark, where the laws of reality and life and death did not matter; a land where one could never die, where nobody grew old, where the children could play together for eternity.

The beings of their creation called the Human their Angel, and Asriel their Prince, praying to them as their Gods, unaware their very creators were children who knew nothing of their existence. For a time, the lands were happy and free, ruled by a King and his Queen. When the Angel stopped visiting, and stopped answering their prayers, however, the lands fell into despair and chaos, pleading for anyone to come save them. The Prince, too, stopped returning to his creations, letting the memory fade from his mind.

Today, the Worlds fall into ruin, a slow rot that has been creeping over all for many years. Neither the Prince or the Angel have seen their creations in all this time, and the balance of fate has shifted.
