2022 Genlocke VS 2024 Genlocke - DEATH BATTLE!

Summary:

Welcome to yet another Death Battle. Like Tulip VS Ivy, this is meant to be a passion project rather than an actual full fledged matchup that I want to be official. This is my two Pokémon Generationlocke teams against each other in a 19v19 battle between all of the survivors.

Chapter 1: Introduction

Chapter Text

*Coming up...*

On cue, Haxorus charged up a Dragon Claw and lunged straight towards Garchomp, who managed to block it with its claws. Both roared in anger, but Garchomp suddenly impaled it with its claws, driving it at an insane speed up into a wall. However, it had fallen right into their trap, and Haxorus tore into the Garchomp's body, scraping itself on its Rough Skin, but causing it to faint.

'No way, you took out another one?!'

'You've got the right tools, but not strategy. Now, you're up Alakazam!'

*Intro*

Wiz: One obscure nuzlocke variants that has recently surged in popularity was the Generationlocke. This is a classic Pokémon nuzlocke, but passed down through multiple generations, stopping at the seventh. And through these, multiple names have been made.

Boomstick: But someone wanted to be different and subverted the expectations of this entirely, creating something called a Trendlocke, which customised it completely. There were several attempts at this, but there were only two when they didn't get bored.

Wiz: The A.Razor Genlocke, which spanned from 2022 to 2024.

Boomstick: And the Ivy Petal Genlocke, which spanned from June 2024 to August 2024! He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick!

Wiz: And it's our job to analyse these character's armor, weapons and skills to find out who would win a DEATH BATTLE!

Chapter 2: A. Razor's Generation never dies in DEATH BATTLE!

Chapter Text

Wiz: The UK, in June of 2022. If you were in the UK during that time, you know what it was like. The droughts reaching up to 40 degrees celsius...yep, those were times you could relax in the sun.

Boomstick: But an introverted 12 year old guy didn't feel like having fun in the sun at that time. No, he wanted to become a Pokémon master! And he was capitalising on this right away- however, he actually only had an iPhone to run this. And I ain't talking the iPhone with Delta and all that...nope. This was before that.

Wiz: For the most part, all of his adventures were run on this iPhone using an online emulator. And this one didn't really have anything to help all the grindy parts of a Genlocke. So how did he get through it, you might ask?

Boomstick: Well, it was with this help of another guy! Unfortunately we can't credit him because we don't know his name, but basically Razor sent him the save file multiple times for him to edit, and with that, he was able to game! And for his first leg- a Wedlocke.

Wiz: A Wedlocke is when two Pokémon are set in arranged marriages, basically. One male, one female, because of internalised homophobia for Razor back then. And the first pair are our first two survivors- Venusaur and Gyarados.

Boomstick: Venusaur is by far the most creditable member of this team! Because already, we have a Pokémon that survived seven generations in a row without fainting?! How did he even achieve that- I mean, look at this thing!

Wiz: For this, we'll be using the strongest versions of these members, and for Venusaur, that's her Alola version, Trucy. Well- that's the original Venusaur's daughter anyway.

Boomstick: Not like it was much generational breeding anyway. More just mitosis.

Wiz: Venusaur runs a strategy called Growing Pains. This is when Venusaur puts the foe to sleep and set up Growth, before firing with Energy Ball and Sludge Bomb to sweep with its extreme bulk. And this Venusaur has gotten into some seriously lucky situations. They've taken on half of Steven's team alone, most of Iris' team, and a large part of the Elite 4 in every single game too. They deserve the slogan of 'Venusaur never dies'.

Boomstick: But don't sleep on Gyarados too, whose best generation is her HGSS variant. She's a physical Dragon Dance sweeper who relies on setting up on weaker Pokémon and sweeping with Waterfall, Crunch and Ice Fang, which can pierce holes in pretty much everything she comes by! Hell, she even swept an entire champion by herself!

Wiz: These two made a perfect team. But on top of that, there were four other Pokémon on the team- Snorlax, Aerodactyl, Gengar and Dodrio.

Boomstick: Of course, their best generation was all HGSS, except for Dodrio, who died in HGSS. It was the first survivor's death, and it was due to a surprise Rock Slide from Chuck's Primeape.

Wiz: They were all relatively good threats in their own right. Snorlax was the special tank of the team, Aerodactyl was the fast physical attacker who took down a large portion of the Elite 4 with Snorlax, Gengar was a fast special attacker who ran several coverage moves to catch their opponents off guard, and Dodrio was another fast flying type who could always deal relatively good damage no matter what.

Boomstick: And the first two legs were completed. There was a Magnezone as well, but- I'll be real, he's kind of irrelevant. However, Leg 3 proved to be the worst mistake in the entire run.

Wiz: He finished the entire thing in one day without taking breaks. As such, his fights often ended up being scattered and unplanned for, which is not what you want in a game like Pokémon Ruby, which is unbalanced in its fights at times. And because of that- there were no survivors for Leg 3...except Venusaur.

Boomstick: Yeah- he ended up losing Gastly, Aerodactyl, Magnemite and Snorlax to Wattson and Norman respectively. Even when he rebuilt his team with the best of the best- he didn't know how to utilise them properly, and lost all his team except except one. Hell, it's a miracle he survived in the first place.

Wiz: However, he moved onto Leg 4, where he had 4 new survivors in this. He took in 6, however, Granbull didn't make it on the way due to Aaron's Drapion.

Boomstick: Must've been embarrassing to die to the first Elite 4 member.

Wiz: Asides from that, he gained some great allies. Garchomp as a strong Swords Dance sweeper which tore through a lot of teams, Swampert as a bulky physical attacker, Banette as a physical ghost type and a Medicham...which also died in the same fight.

Boomstick: They had too many physical attackers anyway.

Wiz: In particular Maya the Garchomp carried a large part of the Elite 4, and was said to be EV trained in multiple categories as well, the only member of his team to have such a feat.

Boomstick: Well, anything for giving Cynthia a taste of her own medicine, right? Piano music still haunts me to this day.

Wiz: Leg 5 carried on, and- after Clay, it was an absolute massacre. Due to some incredibly poor misplays on his end, it was yet another Leg 3 genocide, leaving them with only Venusaur and Gabite.

Boomstick: And he did what he did best- building up the scraps of his team with duct tape and glue. And-well, the only one he really cared about was Venusaur and Garchomp.

Wiz: The champion fight may have been the deadliest in history of their run though. They just threw everything they had at Iris, and this resorted in- well, some unorthodox strategies being used on Venusaur, being X Items and constant healing.

Boomstick: But RNG Gods said no, and Venusaur was crit and fell as a result...but the Nuzlocke gods just straight up said no to that too! The trend he was playing allowed you to revive one Pokémon at the end, but everyone showed disapprovement of him using that, so he held off on it. And at the last moment, he used it and knocked Archeops out. However- Maya also fell during the war, mainly due to Razor being pissed about Venusaur nearly dying there. However another survivor stayed...Krookodile!

Wiz: This Krookodile was used all throughout the Elite 4 as it had surprising variety for all the members. Dark coverage did get you very far in a playthrough like that, so it stood out compared to the rest. And when Leg 6 arrived, it once again proved itself by-

Boomstick: By getting one shot by a Focus Blast. Yeah. Great fucking job there, lone survivor.

Wiz: But asides from that, Leg 6 granted Razor a crucial ability- the ability to Mega Evolve. And Trucy the Venusaur could utilise that effectively to make it not only even more of a tank, but make Growing Pains more effective as a strategy.

Boomstick: And on top of that, he got a sweet new Mega Charizard Y to go with it! With this combination, he absolutely kicked the ass of the playthrough, and got to the ending with the team of Venusaur, Charizard, Florges, Hydreigon, Lapras and Heracross.

Wiz: It was a relatively well rounded team that didn't repeat any types on it at all. And because of this, it was the first time in a while that he completed the Elite 4 and Champion deathless, and rose up to Leg 7.

Boomstick: During this run though he was beyond experienced and much less head-on with his strategy! God, took this family seven generations to stop being dumbasses!

Wiz: And their ability to Mega Evolve carried over too, although this time it was only able to be used on Venusaur. Charizard was useful for a time, but eventually, it fell to the Totem Ribombee. As well as this, Lapras and Heracross fell to the Totem Salazzle, whereas Florges and Hydreigon survived and went on.

Boomstick: Ultra Sun is nowhere near an easy game. Its design is completely subverted from the original game by making you throw everything at once at it, which kind of messes up the purpose of a nuzlocke. Florges, Hydreigon and Venusaur solo'd some of the fights on their own, meaning that they probably could be considered as some of the best survivors on their team.

Wiz: As for the new survivors, three new ones were chosen, being Volcarona, Sigilyph and Naganadel. Around this time she grew comfortable with using legendaries in her nuzlocke, so Naganadel was fair game now. These all carried a great variety of options, Volcarona as one of the best set up sweepers, Sigilyph as coverage and Naganadel as a fast and strong killer who boosts itself each time. Afterwards though, Razor retired from the run, and chose to appoint his six as legendary hunters throughout the wormholes.

Boomstick: And that adds up to 19 survivors total for their generation. Although there was a severe lack of actual generations going on, every single one of them has proven their worth for the Elite 4 and Champion, which is why they survived in the first place.

Wiz: The first Trendlocke ever created proved to be a legendary one, and a throne was gifted to the Ultimate surviving Pokémon, being Venusaur, who never dies in the hands of Razor.

Boomstick: Razor may be a bit of a dumbass and unprepared at times, but his previous legs were the headstart of the legacy he's built today, and he definitely doesn't plan on stopping spreading this any time soon. He's definitely capable enough as it is at the minute, and while nothing can revert the deaths- nothing can also revert the legacy of Venusaur.

Chapter 3: The Ivy Petal Generation steals the throne in DEATH BATTLE!

Chapter Text

Wiz: June 2024, around 2 months after she had finished her first Generationlocke...she decided that a new journey would begin for the summer, one that would carry on just as much power with all the knowledge she had today.

Boomstick: Wait- she? What happened to that guy in between the runs?

Wiz: Well, it actually happened during the first Trendlocke, most likely in between Leg 6 and Leg 7. She transitioned during the runs, and decided that her new persona should adopt a new legacy among the battlefield. And that she did.

Boomstick: She created her character called Ivy, who was known as the daughter of the world's greatest thief. Picture it like Kay Faraday, but with Pokémon. However, when his father was eventually caught, he was incinerated in an attack with the police Arcanine. As such, this Ivy grew a grudge towards authority, and became the only morally acceptable Pokémon thief!

Wiz: The trend this time consisted of her stealing Pokémon from other trainers as well as using those gifted to her in combat. And first one was the Charizard.

Boomstick: Essentially the Venusaur of the run. The generational Charizards here were extremely lucky, surviving close fights such as taking on most of Lance by itself, Glacia and Jupiter all by itself. The most powerful version of them though, is the one in Leg 3.

Wiz: Instead of Ruby this time, Ivy chose Alpha Sapphire to do Leg 3 in, which granted her the power of Mega Evolution earlier on. And she chose to equip a Charizardite X to their legacy, making it an absolute powerhouse.

Boomstick: And this thing has Dragon Dance too from a generational thing, so if it just set up a few, it could decimate anything easily. Especially in a game like ORAS.

Wiz: As for the rest of the team, it was Blastoise, Raichu, Alakazam, Exeggutor and Steelix. Two slow but bulky special attackers, a physical slow wall, a fast special attacker and a fast mixed attacker. It worked well for her team. However- almost none of them would go on to survive Leg 2.

Boomstick: Well- they almost ended up surviving, in fact, all the way up to the Elite 4. However, a severe misplay on Ivy's part caused her strategy for Lance to fall when Steelix fell to a Focus Blast from Gengar. And...yeah, this wiped out her strategy completely.  However, Charizard managed to carry on a similar legacy, and began to sweep with Dragon Dance, while at the same time tanking every single hit she could! And eventually, Lance fell to the orange lizard.

Wiz: Next up was Leg 3...and this proved to be when Ivy got comfortable with adding overpowered Pokémon to her team. She did something called a Sneaklocke, using the DexNav's hidden features to obtain Pokémon not seen in the Hoenn region. And she obtained some generational treasures through that.

Boomstick: Yep! Three of the Pokémon in Leg 3 went on to survive the rest of the generations! These three were Sylveon, Haxorus and- holy shit, Latios?!

Wiz: It was fair game for her to use Latios since it was a gift in the story. The best version of them was most likely the Leg 3 Latios, where it of course could Mega Evolve for increased special bulk and power. And with a Latios at the start of every run, it was now practically impossible to lose anything.

Boomstick: This wasn't the only notable thing about this Latios though. Calm Mind sweeps with not only STAB, but being able to slot through Ice Beam and Thunderbolt at will too?!

Wiz: It was certainly a force to be reckoned with back then, which is why it survived so long. The second notable survivor, Sylveon, though, came in multiple different varieties.

Boomstick: Ivy decided to be a bit different with her choice and work with multiple different kinds of Eeveelutions, which we have to count as separate Pokémon since they all survived the run that they're in. Sylveon in Leg 3 and 6, Jolteon in Leg 4 and Glaceon in Leg 5. Sylveon was the best in Leg 6 though, for reasons we'll get into later.

Wiz: Meanwhile Haxorus performed a similar function to Charizard. Another Dragon Dance sweeper who could tear through any team once it had set up. It's terrifying just how many of these were in her legacy as a nuzlocker, considering these could tear through practically anything.

Boomstick: As for the other survivors, they were Sceptile and Zoroark. Fast glass cannons which performed their role pretty well, but in Ivy's opinion, not well enough, as she ditched Zoroark in Leg 6, and Sceptile died to an Self Destructing Geodude in Leg 4. Oh, and uh, Alakazam died to May's Combusken in Leg 3 earlier.

Wiz: Overall her legacy was standing strong. And Leg 4 would continue to improve that, with the only death being the previously mentioned Sceptile. Three new survivors were added to replace Zoroark and Haxorus, who were being saved for the Gen 5 run. These three were Empoleon, Blissey and Lucario.

Boomstick: Empoleon would go on to survive Leg 5 as well as Leg 4 as being something every AI fears- a good Steel type. Overall it had great synergy with her team and little to nothing could stop it, as long as she was careful.

Wiz: Blissey and Lucario's usage was fairly obvious. Blissey was an amazing special wall for every nuzlocke, and Lucario was a Swords Dance sweeper which tore through any team he came across. However- Ivy decided to retire Blissey.

Boomstick: Not like this thing was bad, in fact, far from it. It was that it was so good that it straight up became not fun to use because its playstyle was so trivial. So, Blissey was dropped in favour of getting Haxorus back on in Leg 5.

Wiz: However, disaster struck. Leg 5 was a randomiser, where anything can happen, and Charmeleon ran into a Farfetch'd. It seemed fairly easy to defeat...but it had the ability Illusion. It was actually an Ursaring. It caught Charmeleon off guard, and as a result...it died.

Boomstick: This death easily hurt Ivy the most. Four generations of work went down the drain for such a stupid reason. But she wasn't having anything keep her down at the moment, so Zoroark went back on the team, and she moved on- to encounter a familiar face on Skyarrow Bridge. MOTHERFUCKING VENUSAUR BABY!!!

Wiz: It was almost like it was a blessing. The Venusaur that carried on generations of work had no returned to her through the skies, almost as if it was descending from the heavens towards her. And this Venusaur would go on to survive the rest of the run. However, the rest of the team gained another quality from the heavens- Judgement.

Boomstick: Empoleon, Glaceon and Venusaur could all learn Judgement from a randomised move tutor. And using the plates scattered around the region, they had coverage for pretty much everything! Not great offensively my ass, here's a 180 BP Steel-type Judgement!

Wiz: With the Quiver Dance TM as well which Glaceon and Venusaur could learn and the Bolt Strike tutor which Haxorus learned, they became serious forces to be reckoned with. Leg 5 finished and onwards was Leg 6, which used events from previous games to build up their team.

Boomstick: However- disaster struck yet again, and another generational beast was lost, being Empoleon this time. As a Prinplup, he was caught off guard by a Golbat, and got killed by an Acrobatics. God, why do all the cool ones have to die?!

Wiz: To replace them and the Zoroark though, two new members joined, a Protean Greninja and a Garchomp. Two strong set up sweepers with powerful defensive and offensive profiles. Greninja had an interesting strategy though.

Boomstick: It actually ran Hidden Power Steel, so it could swap into the Steel type at any team and tank a large variety of attacks. With Surf, Dark Pulse and Extrasensory with that, it could sweep any team with the right circumstances!

Wiz: A lot of Ivy's generation has followed this trend. Garchomp was basically just your average Garchomp, but used to maximum efficency this time. It almost replaced Haxorus, it was that powerful.

Boomstick: But when Leg 7 rolled around- Ivy stopped. Basically just motivation kept her from doing another run and she moved onto other projects instead of what she was doing at the moment. Plus, yeah, maybe her team had gotten a bit overpowered.

Wiz: However, Ivy had proven herself to be way more competent and level headed in her fights, and she would never back down from them anytime soon. She had carried on a strong legacy with multiple Pokémon, rather an a very strong legacy with just one.

Boomstick: Despite everything, she was still wrecking everything she came across with what she did best- setting up and sweeping, but also carrying on more unique features and utilising the efficiency of her Pokémon.

Wiz: Nuzlocking had gotten more fun for her, and she proved herself to be a better protector and a better user of her Pokémon, to make sure that Ivy's legacy of the Great Thief would never die out.
