Chapter 1: (Welcome to Serche)

Chapter Text

“Serche”

24 years before the region formed its towns and cities today, it was a barren island running afloat in the seas with no direction. There were no Pokemon, plant life, or human beings in sight upon its first discovery.

How it ended up in this state is still a mystery even to the pioneers who first set foot on Serche. There were no records of it ever containing any notable place in history, which led to theories that Serche was lying dormant under the sea for thousands or even millions of years after some volcanic activity in the past and only made its way to the surface several years ago. It would have been the logical conclusion yet it still does not explain the condition it was in. Further study later showed that it had been around for as long as the other regions existed. Somehow it had kept itself hidden enough that only in this era did its presence become noticed. To this day, this piece of land still holds many mysteries left unsolved.

Despite these interesting facts, it was still uninhabitable at the time, the land’s soil was dead and unable to form nutrients making it impossible for any flora and fauna. However, the place had an abundance of harvestable minerals that interested various mining companies to expand their branches there. For years the island only served as a quarry for resources but a researcher by the name of Helene saw the greater potential.

Thanks to the resilience of this brilliant mind we were able to revive the land with fresh new vegetation. The replanting came out so successfully fast that it did not stop with the plant life. Pokemon were even donated from various regions to be transferred into Serche with proper environments that would sustain them and their needs. This would then kickstart the formation of Kardia City, the first official settlement of the region that would years later become the heart capital.

As the population of humans and Pokemon grew, homes, facilities, and transportation systems were constructed for those who wished to settle in and become residents of the region. Alongside her partner and now appointed regional Professor Junius Bismarck, the region was able to flourish with new cities, towns, and very soon a Pokemon League.

We can't end the list without including the ever-radiant Kardia City. What makes this such a grand and prestigious testament to how far Serche has come is the creation of Fort Oculus, a proud architectural masterpiece that floats above the center of the city. During the draft of its construction, it was originally supposed to be an ordinary skyscraper that acted as the headquarters for the scientists and as a place to monitor whatever went in Serche. Yet again Helene went beyond and had the impulsive idea to truly have Fort Oculus be a symbol of the eyes that keep everyone safe and understandably so her partner and the rest of the team had many objections.

But it was because of this that the city gained such a reputation from many tourists that led it to become the designated location for the future Pokemon League. Sadly Miss Helene passed away just 2 years ago before Fort Oculus was fully completed which caused a setback in the Gym Challenges and League. So let us honor her name on this very special day and enjoy watching the welcoming ceremony!

“Wow, there’s so much about this region despite being young…”

The passengers on the bus all said their thoughts after taking in the bundle of information through the intercom system. There was a mixture of anticipation and wonder stirring within the tourists. Most came either from the coming of the ceremony or the various locations they planned to visit, nonetheless, they were still very much ready to see everything in store. Once the ride came to a halt they exited the vehicle and made their way through the limestone pavements of Kardia City. It was bustling as ever as part of its reputation, Pokemon and people alike going about their day doing work or simply enjoying each other’s company.

And just right above the center of a large lake within the city was Fort Oculus, a steel skyscraper-like building with a gigantic crystal at the bottom supported by a circular steel structure to keep it in place. The crystal resonated some sort of energy that rippled the air around it that kept the building high up similar to the effects of magnetic levitation. It stood approximately 200 meters high with 20 stories and crowned on top of it was a particularly shaped lightning rod that mimics an Alolan-Raichu’s tail at the tip. The highest floor had a large dome window although you could not see the inside thanks to a special layer on the glass. From below people would take extensive photos of the structure with their cameras.

“I know right?!” one girl responded to some kind of conversation with her friend.

“It’s just so surreal, we’re really living in the moment where everyone makes history!”, they giggled in unison as they disappeared with the rest of the bundled-up crowd who made their way to the northern entrance of Tessra Stadium.

It had proven difficult for the security personnel to keep them in order due to the unprecedented guests who shoved at every chance they got just to get a seat. After some excruciating amount of time, everything was set in order. Guests were finally in proper seating arrangement. The rest of the staff can finally put the event in motion. Most importantly the Professor could finally do his opening speech.

“Welcome all of you esteemed guests who came all the way from Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and so on!”

A voice belonging to a tan-skinned man standing on top of a stage bellowed through the speakers. Said man appeared to be in his 40s with graying black hair and a beard as proof of the many years he has lived. He wore a white dress shirt donned with a gray double-breasted coat that reached the knees of his dress pants. As a nice piece to tie his attire together, he had a black and white necktie on. The appearance alone seemed to get everyone’s attention which was his cue to continue,

“I, Professor Bismarck, am ecstatic to announce that the challenge for the Serche Pokemon League is officially open!”

Everyone sang united praises with shouts and cheering that shook the very core of the stadium which might even grow louder than the built-in sound systems. The Professor resumed his speech,

“As it goes you must travel throughout the region and defeat the designated Gym Leaders with your team of Pokemon.”

The professor then threw three Pokeballs over his head and released his Arboliva, Galvantula, and Hippowdon which all emerged from a stream of kaleidoscope-colored lights before scattering to be by the man’s side.

“Although the Gym Leaders were handpicked by me and the late founder, they will be facing a form of evaluation.”, Professor Bismarck turned his head to look at the eight individuals behind him shrouded in darkness, “Each one must demonstrate their strength, strategic mindset, and overall leadership to shape the Challengers into reaching the level of those of a Champion and continuing to do so might even promote them to Elite Four members.”

After saying the last part the Professor swore he heard a small snicker behind him followed by a low grunt but chose to ignore it.

“Let us not waste any more time, I am sure our brave and determined Challengers have been reveling in anticipation to come into the stadium so let us call them forward at once! ”

The lights went out momentarily before turning on again to a large opening from the west and east of the stadium. Right in front of everybody’s eyes were many if not dozens of Trainers walking across the stadium all wearing the Gym Challenger brooch on their clothing. To show their congratulations to the chosen bunch, the crowd cheered and clapped with every fiber of energy they had within them.

But what got the crowd going was the person who came last.

“EEEE LOOK IT'S PRINCE SEAM!”

“OH MY GOSH IT’S SERCHE’S PRINCE!!”

“I KNEW IT HE IS PARTICIPATING AHHHH!!!”

Standing out from the numerous Trainers was a dashing young man with neatly groomed teal hair paired with an attire fit for a nightly soiree. His personality seems to fit him as he only took composed and elegant strides. Even the competition around him was in awe of his entrance into the spotlight. The smile on his face never faltered as it only fuels his ego from the cheers and praises. To quench the hype from the fans he waved back at them.

“Ahem, moving forward it is important to keep in mind to be fair towards your fellow peers and to never turn to cheating as a means of winning.” The Professor warned both the Challengers and the Gym Leaders, “Doing so would lead to greater consequences.”

The people in the stadium began murmuring among themselves. Some of the participants grew rather nervous at the man’s serious tone. The Professor read their uneasiness and decided to alleviate it with some words of encouragement.

“Nonetheless, my dear friend Helene and I wish all of you the best in honing your skills and reaching your full potential!”

All of the lights went back to illuminating the whole stadium and not only the areas where the participants stood. Then several of the Professor’s aides wearing uniform lab attire went into the stadium to distribute some sort of device to the participants. It was similar to a flip phone except it was much larger than a regular one and far more complicated in terms of technological design. They all looked at each other and the aides in confusion. Some already had their own communication devices so they don’t see why they should get another one.

“And as an addition, I would like to provide you with these upgraded Pokedexes to aid you on your journey,” he pulled out his own Pokedex and flipped it open, “It is an electric Pokemon encyclopedia invented by Professor Oak of Kanto and please feel free to use this to acquire data on Pokemons you are unfamiliar with.”

The participants’ confusion turned to astonishment at being given such a device just like that. Once more the crowd exploded with all sorts of cheers and hoorays and after the Professor ended the ceremony they turned to the large openings they came from and their story would continue from there.

“Go forth all of you and remember the end of the journey could only be shaped by you!”

"Hi hi author here I just want to say I'm happy to get back to writing Pokemon stories again despite the many circumstances that come with getting older and just life in general. Hopefully my writing style in some shape or form improved a lot from the past even though I haven't practiced in so long. I had wanted to create a different story with a completely different cast from the original 'Unfavorable Adventures of Trainer Evelyn' but I really had fun with it even if I will admit that the old story could use some tweaks. It's kind of just me being indecisive most of the time because I make plans for other stuff and just suddenly lose the motivation to do so or just don't like how the story is anymore which is partially why I didn't want to continue that story and start from scratch oof. I didn't really have a thought-out plot at the time tbh and just put whatever I liked which is fine but over time I really liked writing it and wanted to polish it if that makes sense. Ack anyways no more rambling I do hope you enjoyed the intro or prologue, I am happy with the choice of building my own region with its own lore instead of using an existing one even though it takes a lot of work. There will be a lot of changes from the og story but there are some elements that will stay. I might even leave some subtle references from that book which I think not many of you would notice. Anywho gday/gnight wherever you are."
