Chapter 1: The royal party
Chapter Text
Once upon a time, in a faraway land, there was a large kingdom by the name of Moondust.
(Yeah I kinda ran out of creative kingdom names.)
It was a most joyous day in the kingdom of Moondust, for the two queens were celebrating the 1 month birthday of their newly adopted son, Prince Catnap.
Residents from all corners of the kingdom came to look upon the baby prince, who was a tiny purple kitten with sweet onyx eyes, and the softest fur, which smelled like lavender.
Two of the guests were the king and prince of the nearby kingdom of Sunstar.
A year or so ago, the king had made a deal with the queens of Moondust and had agreed that when the two princes were of age, they would be wed, and unite the kingdoms of Moondust and Sunstar forever.
When the 2-year old puppy saw the baby kitten for the first time, his eyes sparkled at how adorable he was.
He loved petting him, tickling him to make him laugh, and gently playing with him in his crib.
Their parents were happy they were getting along, knowing their marriage in the future was sure to prosper.
The last guests to arrive at the party were the three color sprites, the guardians of love, hope, and everything good in the world.
In a beam of light, they slowly descended.
First was Roberta, the red fairy of love and happiness. Second, Craftilina, the blue fairy of art and creativity, and finally Hope, the green fairy of passion and energy.
They all immediately go to look upon the baby prince, smiling and gushing about how cute he was, their eyes full of adoration.
They then go to curtsy before the two queens.
“Greetings, your majesties.”
Bobby says. “Each of us will bless the young prince with one gift. No more, and no less.”
The queens nod in approval.
Bobby then walks up to the bassinet.
“Little prince, my gift to you shall be the gift of beauty.”
She waves her wand over the baby prince, making red sparkles gently shower down upon him.
“You will grow up to be the most handsome man in all the kingdom.”
The baby giggles and bats at the sparkles.
Bobby giggles as well, then backs up so that Crafty can have a turn.
Crafty walks up to the bassinet, smiling.
“Tiny prince, my gift to you shall be the gift of song.”
She waves her wand over the bassinet, showering the prince in blue sparkles.
“You shall grow up to have the most melodic voice in all the land.”
When the sparkles had vanished, finally, Hoppy strolls up to the bassinet.
“Sweet prince, my gift shall be-”
But before she could give her gift, she was interrupted by a strong wind, which blew open the castle doors and made all the royal banners blow, causing the guests to panic.
The two queens looked scared, as well as the color sprites, and little prince Dogday hides behind his father.
There was a flash of green lightning in the center of the room, and when the light faded, there stood the most evil and wicked sorceress in all the land, accompanied by her pet raven.
“Why, it’s Ulrike!”
Crafty says, afraid.
Hoppy growls. “What’s she doing here!?”
Bobby gently puts a hand over her mouth. “Shh!”
“Well, quite a glittering assemblage, Queen Catherina.”
Ulrike says, her sharp stilettos clicking on the castle’s floor as she walks forward.
She looks around.
“Royalty, nobility, the gentry, and…”
She glances at the fairies.
“Ohohoho, how quaint. Even the rabble.”
Hoppy growls and tries to pounce on her, but Bobby holds her back.
Ulrike gently pets Poe.
“I really felt quite distressed at not receiving an invitation.”
“You weren’t wanted!”
Hoppy says angrily.
Ulrike looks at her, confused.
“Not want-”
She giggles darkly.
“Oh dear, how awkward I've made things.”
She continues to pet Poe gently.
“I had hoped it was due to some oversight.”
She turns to leave. “Well in that case, I'll be leaving.”
Queen Daisy steps forward.
“And… you’re not offended, your grace?”
Ulrike turns back, smiling.
“Why NO, your highness.”
She says.
“And to show I bear no ill will…”
She says, walking back towards them.
“I too have a gift for the child.”
The three color sprites stand around the bassinet protectively.
Ulrike looks around.
“Listen well, all of you.”
She says, stomping her foot on the floor.
“The prince shall indeed grow up with an air of grace and beauty… beloved by all who shall meet him.”
She then gets an evil glint in her eye.
“But… on his 18th birthday… as soon as he pricks his finger on the thorn of a poppy flower….”
She grins maliciously.
“He will die!”
“Oh no!”
Queen Daisy says, scooping up baby Catnap out of his crib and holding him tightly.
(I know poppies don’t have thorns but y’know, symbolism)
Queen Catherina points at Ulrike who had nothing but rage in her eyes.
“Seize the foul witch!”
The guards try to apprehend the sorceress, but before they can, she starts to laugh evilly.
“Stand back, fools!”
She summons another storm, and with that, her and her pet are gone in another flash of green lightning.
Queen Daisy holds baby Catnap closely, trying not to cry and glancing at Catherina.
Bobby approaches them.
“Don’t despair, your majesties.”
She says gently. “Hoppy still has her gift to give.”
Queen Catherina calms down a bit.
“Can she undo this dreadful curse?”
Hoppy steps forward.
“Unfortunately, I can’t completely undo the curse…”
She says. “But I can try to change it.”
Daisy gently puts Catnap back in his crib.
“Please… anything to save him..”
She pleads.
Hoppy was a bit nervous and hesitant, but the other sprites gently pushed her forward.
“Just do your best, dear…”
Taking a deep breath, Hoppy approaches the bassinet.
She waves her green wand over the baby.
“Sweet prince…
If indeed you do prick your finger on the thorn of a poppy flower…
You shall not die, but instead fall into a deep sleep.”
Hoppy smiles, subtly glancing over to Prince Dogday, who was still scared and hiding behind his dad.
“And your one true love will be the only one who can wake you from your slumber.”
The green sparkles shower down upon Catnap, who looked up at her with his beautiful, sparkling eyes.
It was almost as if he understood.
But Queen Catherina, still fearful for her son’s life, doth decree that every single Poppy flower throughout the land shall be burned, and so it was done.
That very same night, they held a royal bonfire, burning all of the red flowers into ash.
Chapter Text
While the bonfire burned brightly, the three color sprites were hanging out in the throne room, Bobby looking out the window at the burning fire.
“Oh, silly fiddle faddle!”
Bobby says angrily, stomping back over to the other fairies.
“There there, dear.”
Crafty says, making a teapot and cups appear from nowhere. “Relax and have some tea.”
She pours some into Hoppy’s cup. “I’m sure things will work out okay!”
“Well, a bonfire won’t stop Ulrike.”
Hoppy says, sipping her tea.
“Of course not!”
Bobby says, taking her cup. “But what will?”
Crafty thinks. “Maybe we could negotiate with her?”
Bobby and Hoppy almost drop their tea cups.
“Negotiate?!”
Bobby says.
“With ULRIKE!?”
Hoppy adds.
Crafty smiles a bit. “Well, she can’t be ALL evil, right?”
Bobby shakes her head. “Oh yes she can!”
Hoppy makes a cookie appear out of nowhere, taking a bite.
“I’d like to turn her into a slimy, gross swamp slug.”
Crafty looks disappointed. “Now that’s not very nice!”
Bobby sighs. “Besides, you couldn’t.” She says. “Our magic doesn’t work that way, remember?”
Crafty smiles. “Yes, we can only use it for good, and to make people happy!”
Hoppy rolls her eyes, taking another bite of her cookie.
“Well THAT would make ME happy…”
Bobby keeps pacing the floor.
“There must be something we can do…”
Then, she gets an idea, smiling.
“Wait, there is!”
She says happily.
The others look at her.
“There is?”
Crafty asks, walking over, followed by Hoppy, who says, “What is it?
“I’m going to-”
But then Bobby covers her own mouth, leaning in.
“Even the walls have ears.”
She says, looking left and right to make sure they weren’t being watched.
“Follow me.”
She says, magically shrinking herself and gesturing for the others to do the same.
Crafty nods, shrinking herself and following Bobby into the dish box, where she was hiding.
Hoppy looks around as well, then shrinks herself, following after her friends and closing the lid, making sure they were completely hidden.
Once they were all safe inside the dish box, Bobby reveals her plan.
“I’ll turn them into a flower!”
Hoppy was confused.
“Ulrike…?”
Bobby giggles. “No, dear, the prince!”
Crafty’s eyes light up. “Oh, he’ll make a lovely flower!”
Bobby holds up her finger. “You see? A flower can’t prick his finger!”
Hoppy smiles. “It doesn’t have any!”
Bobby giddily giggles.
“He’ll be perfectly safe!”
But then, Hoppy’s smile fades.
“Until Ulrike sends a snowstorm…”
She says.
“Yes! I-”
Bobby realizes what Hoppy had just said, slumping down and frowning.
“Oh dear…”
Crafty sighs, patting her back sympathetically. “She always ruins your nicest flowers…”
Bobby nods. “You’re right… and she’ll be EXPECTING us to do something like that…”
Hoppy grumbles. “Well what WON’T she expect? She knows everything…”
Crafty looks at her. “Now that’s not true.”
She says. “Ulrike doesn’t know anything about love, or kindness, or family.”
She sighs. “Maybe she’s just not very happy…
Bobby’s face then lights up, getting another idea.
“That’s it!”
She says, smiling brightly. “Of course!”
She looks back to the others. “It’s the only thing Ulrike CAN’T understand, and WON’T expect!’
She says, giggling giddily.
Bobby starts to pace the floor again, mumbling to herself.
“Now, we’ll have to plan it carefully…”
Crafty and hoppy look at each other, wondering what the heck Bobby was on about.
“Let’s see, the woodcutters cottage, the abandoned one… of course the queens will object…”
She walks into a mug, Crafty following her, and Hoppy poking her head in.
“But when we explain it’s the only way…”
She says, walking out of the mug and being followed by Crafty.
“Explain WHAT?!”
Hoppy, still in the mug, says, the others looking at her.
Once she walks over, Bobby explains.
“About three peasant women, raising their adopted child, deep in the woods.”
Crafty smiles shyly. “Oh… that’s rather nice of them.”
Hoppy tilts her head. “Who are they?”
Bobby smiles. “Turn around.”
As Hoppy and Crafty turn around, Bobby turns all their outfits into peasant outfits, with Crafty’s being blue and feminine, and Hoppy’s being red, like Bobby’s, but a bit more masculine style, like she knew Hoppy liked to wear.
The two gasp as they see their reflections.
“Why, it’s US!”
Crafty says, smiling brightly.
Hoppy looks at Bobby. “You mean, WE, us?”
Bobby nods. “Mhm!”
Crafty’s eyes sparkle. “We get to look after the baby?”
Bobby nods again. “Yeah, why not?”
Crafty claps. “Oh, that’ll be wonderful!”
Hoppy looks grumpy, quickly changing her outfit from red to green.
“Well yeah, but we’ll have to feed him, and-”
“And bathe him, and clothe him, and rock him to sleep!”
Crafty says, sighing softly. “Oh, I'm going to love it!”
Hoppy still looks nervous. “You really think we can?”
Bobby nods, patting her shoulder. “If humans can do it, we can too.”
She says, going to open the dish box.
Hoppy shrugs. “I suppose we’d still have our magic.”
Crafty nods. “That’s right.”
Bobby frowns. “Oh no! We can’t use magic!” She says.
“Give me the wands.”
Crafty nods, giving Bobby hers.
“Better get rid of the wings too.”
She says, magically poofing Crafty’s wings away.
“Y-you mean, living like mortals…?”
Hoppy says, trying to fly away. “For 18 years?!”
Bobby nods, poofing away Hoppy’s wings and making her fall into the teacup.
“B-but we don’t know how!”
She says, still playing keep-away with the wand as Bobby chases her. “We’ve never done anything without our magic!”
“And that’s why Ulrike will never suspect a thing!”
Bobby says, still chasing her.
“But who will wash dishes and do laundry?! And who will make food?!”
Hoppy says, still running away.
“Oh, we’ll all pitch in.” Bobby says.
“I’ll look after the Baby!”
Crafty adds.
“Let me have it dear!”
Bobby says, finally catching up to Hoppy.
Hoppy managed to remove Bobby’s wings before she took her wand.
“Come along now, we must tell their majesties at once!”
She magically makes herself normal size, then goes towards the door.
“Bobby!” “Bobby!”
The other fairies call from the tea cart.
Bobby giggles, turning them back to regular size as well.
And so, that every same evening, the two queens watched with heavy hearts, as their most precious possession, their only child, disappeared into the night.
Notes:
So I've been working on this one for a while, and I WAS hoping to upload the whole thing once I got it done, but it ended up being WAY longer than I planned- (And quite frankly I'm probably not even 1/4 of the way done and the document was already like 20 pages-) So I've decided to split this up into chapters. How many chapters I'm not sure, but probably 4 to 5, maybe 6
Anyway, I hope you're enjoying this so far, and more will be coming soon
I'm mostly going off the original sleeping beauty movie with some touches of the original fairy tale
(I wanted to have at least one Au where Catherina is Cn’s mom)Maleficent was one of my main inspirations for Ulrike as a character, so you know I had to make her the role for this story lol
But if I were going off the Maleficent movie I would have made her Cathy because yeahAlso since Diaval has a human form in that movie Poe would probably turn into my Gjinka form/au design for them maybe
But in this story they're just a normal raven
Chapter Text
Many sad and lonely years rolled by for Queen Catherina and her people, but as the time for the prince’s 18th birthday drew near, the kingdom began to rejoice.
For they knew as long as Ulrike’s domain, Mount Vitriol, thundered with her rage, her evil prophecy had not yet been fulfilled.
When Ulrike hadn’t a trace of the boy, she sent out her loyal raven to try and find the pesky feline.
“Search for a cat of 18 years, with fur as soft and silky as a lavender flower.”
She said, “A cat who has a calming presence to anyone who meets him.”
And so the dark bird was off.
For 18 long years, the whereabouts of the prince remained a mystery. While deep in the forest, in a woodcutters cottage, the three color sprites carried out their well-laid plan, living like mortals.
Prince Catnap had grown up to be a sweet and respectful young man, who loved nothing more than to sing, relax in the beauty of nature, and bond with his three aunties.
In order to protect his identity, they gave him the bi-name Lavender, Lavvy for short.
This morning, Catnap/Lavender was by his window, singing a happy song and dusting.
On this day, his 18th birthday, the color sprites had planned a party, and something extra special for a surprise.
The three sprites were sitting at the table, looking at a book of sewing patterns.
“Well, how about this one?”
Said Hoppy, looking at a dress pattern she liked.
“This is the one I picked.”
Bobby says, pointing to the one next to it.
Crafty’s eyes sparkle. “Oh, he’ll look so lovely in that!”
Bobby nods. “Now, I want to make a few changes here, shorten the sleeves a bit, and raise the shoulder line.”
Crafty smiles. “Maybe add a belt bow?”
Hoppy nods. “Uh huh, and shorten the skirt a tiny bit, so he won’t trip.”
Bobby claps. “Perfect!” She says.
Hoppy smiles. “And we’ll make it green.”
Bobby shrugs her off.
“Oh no, doll, red.”
Hoppy frowns. “But-”
Bobby interrupts her. “Of course we’ll need a few pleats.”
Meanwhile, Catnap/Lavvy was walking down the stairs, and overheard their conversation, smiling.
“Yes but, how are we gonna get him out of the house?”
Hoppy asks.
“Oh, I'm sure I'll think of something!”
Bobby says with a giggle.
Catnap giggles. “Good morning!”
He says cheerfully.
The three gasp, trying to hide the book.
“And what are you ladies up to?”
Catnap asks, smirking.
“Up to?” “Up to?” “Up to?”
All three of them respond.
“Well we-” “You see we-” “We just-”
They all stutter, trying to come up with an excuse, while Catnap stands there grinning.
“Well uh-” “Well we-” “we, w-we-”
Hoppy then comes up with an idea.
“-Want you to pick some berries!”
She says, quickly picking up the basket off the counter, handing it to Catnap.
“THAT’S it! Berries!”
Bobby says, relieved.
Catnap was confused.
“Berries?”
Crafty nods. “LOTS of berries!”
“But, I just picked berries yesterday!”
Catnap says, as Hoppy helps him put his coat on.
“We need more, dear!”
Bobby says, gently pushing him out the door.
“Yes, LOTS more!”
Crafty says.
“Yes!”
Bobby adds.
Catnap gives a suspicious smirk, but nods, starting to walk out.
“Now take all the time you need, dear.”
Bobby says, smiling.
“But don’t go too far!”
Hoppy says.
“And don’t talk to strangers!”
Crafty adds.
Catnap nods, smiling and waving goodbye as he leaves, leaving the three sprites alone.
Hoppy looks at them.
“You think he suspects anything?”
“Of course not!”
Bobby giggles, gently booping her nose. “Come on!”
Bobby smiles, going to open a chest of sewing supplies. “Oh he’ll be so surprised!”
Hoppy nods. “A real birthday party!”
Crafty giggles. “With a real birthday cake!”
She says, getting a cookbook off the shelf.
Bobby pulls out a bolt of red fabric. “And a gown fit for royalty!”
Hoppy dashes up the stairs. “I’ll go get our wands!”
Bobby nods. “Yes, go get the-”
She realizes what she said, jumping.
“The wands?!”
Crafty looks over.
“Oh no!”
Bobby looks over at Hoppy. “No magic, remember?”
She says sternly.
Hoppy frowns, turning around.
“But the 18 years are almost over!”
She whines.
Hoppy hands her the bolt of fabric and basket of sewing stuff.
“We are taking NO chances.”
Hoppy looks worried.
“But I've never baked a FANCY cake!”
She says, walking over to Bobby.
Bobby giggles. “You don’t have to, babe!”
Crafty smiles brightly. “I’M going to bake the cake!”
She says, gathering some bowls and cups.
Hoppy looks at her. “YOU!?”
Bobby sighs, handing Hoppy another bolt of fabric. “She’s always wanted to, love, and this is her last chance.”
Hoppy looks back over. “Well…”
Crafty giggles. “I’ll make a ten tier cake, with beautiful frosting flowers!”
She says, setting all the cooking stuff on the counter.
“And I'm making the dress!”
Bobby says, handing Hoppy yet another bolt of fabric.
Hoppy looks angry.
“But you don’t know how to sew! And she’s never baked anything!”
“Ohoho, it’s simple!”
Bobby says, moving a step stool into the center of the room.
“All you do is follow the book!”
Crafty adds.
Bobby helps Hoppy onto the step stool.
“Up here, dear.”
She says, taking the fabric from her.
“You can be the mannequin.”
Hoppy huffs. “Well I STILL say we should use magic.”
Bobby giggles as she tosses some of the red fabric over Hoppy’s head, starting to cut it.
Crafty sets everything on the counter, then looks at the book.
“Flour… three cups.”
She looks around for cups, then realizes she’d set them on the counter.
“Oh.”
She then proceeds to pour 3 cups (of different sizes) of flour into the bowl.
“One.. two… three.”
Hoppy was holding the fabric up as Bobby finished cutting a large hole into it.
“What’s that for?”
She asks.
Bobby giggles. “Well, you HAVE to have a hole at the bottom.”
She says, moving the hole’d fabric down to the floor
“That’s for his feet to go through!”
Crafty adds.
Bobby then throws the end of the fabric bolt over Hoppy’s head.
Hoppy uncovers her head. “It’s Red!?”
She says, having just now realized somehow.
Bobby nods. “A beautiful shade of ruby, don’t you think?”
Hoppy huffs. “But I wanted it to be green!”
She says, angrily gripping the fabric.
“Now now dear, we all decided that RED is his color.”
Bobby says, putting another layer of fabric over Hoppy’s head.
Hoppy growls. “YOU decided!”
She says, muffled.
While Hoppy says more things that were muffled by the fabric, Bobby ties a red ribbon around the bundle of fabric to make the waistline, and makes Hoppy grunt in pain.
Crafty meanwhile, takes two eggs and looks in the cookbook again.
“Two eggs… fold in gently.”
She looks at the eggs, confused.
“Fold?”
She shrugs. “Oh well.”
She puts the eggs, shell and all, into the bowl, then tries to fold them in with her bare hooves.
Crack
“...Oh dear, that doesn’t sound right…”
Bobby gathers up the fabric at the top of the dress as Hoppy, still muffled, says “I can't breathe! Let me out of here!”
Bobby cuts the bunch of fabric, so that there are now head and arm holes, then pulls it down so Hoppy’s head and arms come out.
Once Hoppy’s head and arms were free, she looked down at herself in disgust.
“It looks awful…”
Bobby smirks. “That’s because it’s on YOU, dear.”
Crafty looks at the cookbook again.
“Now yeast, one tsp.”
She looks confused.
“Tsp?”
Hoppy rolls her eyes. “One teaspoon.”
Crafty giggles. “One teaspoon, of course!”
She says, picking it up.
She adds a teaspoon of yeast, then shakes some salt and cinnamon into the mix.
She tastes the cinnamon, then adds a bit more.
Bobby measures Hoppy and the dress, gasping.
“Sweet golly, how that boy has grown!”
She says, showing Hoppy the measurements.
Hoppy sighs happily.
“Oh, it seems only yesterday, we brought him here…”
Crafty nods. “Just a tiny baby kitten…”
Then, Hoppy begins to tear up as Bobby was pinning a sleeve onto the dress.
Bobby notices, gently petting her shoulder. “Why Hoppy…”
Crafty looks over. “Whatever is the matter, dear?”
Hoppy cries, wiping her eyes on the fabric.
“After today… he’ll be a prince…”
She says sadly. “And our little Lavvy will be gone forever…”
Crafty begins to cry too.
“Oh Bobby!”
Bobby sighs.
“Now now… we all knew this day was coming…”
She says, wiping a tear from her eye.
Crafty sniffles.
“But why did it have to come so soon…”
She says, mixing the goopy looking batter.
Bobby nods. “Well… we have had him for 18 years…”
Hoppy smiles sadly. “18 amazing years…”
The three cry sadly, smiling at the wonderful memories for a bit.
Bobby snaps out of it, shaking her head.
“Good gracious!”
She says, picking up the needle. “Look at us, acting like a bunch of pansies.”
She starts to sew a sleeve onto the dress. “We gotta get back to work, or he’ll get back before we even get started!"
Notes:
Up to this point, I've been pretty faithful to the movie (save for cutting most of Maleficent's scene because I couldn't really fit it in- plus I left the most important bits) but now the story might waver a bit for most of the scenes with Catnap and Dogday meeting each other and falling in love, because there aren't gonna be any other animals, just the two of them
Prepare for the DayNap >:)
Chapter Text
Catnap was strolling through the forest, singing and dancing while collecting the berries his aunts had requested.
“It’s too good to be true… I can’t believe it’s real~”
He sings as he plucks some strawberries, looking at each one to make sure it’s good quality.
“Can it be you, I really see~”
He sings as he picks some blueberries, eating one or two in between song lyrics.
“I never knew, I'd find an angel~”
He picks some blackberries, which were his favorites, and sets them in the basket.
“Don’t spread your wings, and fly away~”
Once his basket is full, he sets it on a nearby tree branch.
“But if you’re only passing through, then take me to heaven with you~”
He starts to spin as he dances, his skirt twirling as he did so.
“For is this a dream, too good to be true~”
Catnap continues to dance and sing, lost in the dreamlike atmosphere.
And who should also be taking a nature stroll in the forest at that moment, than the now 20 year old prince of Sunstar.
Dogday was having a good time, finally getting a break from his royal training.
Breathing in the fresh, clean air, looking at the sun rays through the forest leaves, hearing the birds sing and the nearby river running, it was wonderful.
Suddenly, he hears something.
Someone nearby was singing, a beautiful song that melted in his ears like snow crystals.
“It’s just too good to be true, I can’t believe it’s real~
Can it be you, I really see~?”
He follows the mellifluous music, going through the trees, until he spots someone dancing and singing.
“I’d never knew, I'd find an angel~
Don’t spread your wings, and fly away~”
As soon as Dogday lays eyes upon the beautiful cat, his eyes sparkle, and his heart speeds up to 90 miles an hour.
“But if you’re only passing through… then take me to heaven with you~”
Catnap sings, the song almost over as he twirled and danced.
“For is this a dream, too goooood to be truuuuue!”
He finished.
All of a sudden, he hears someone clapping.
“Brava! Brava!”
A voice says, making Catnap jump.
He looks over, to see a tall dog, a few inches taller than him, wearing a white dress shirt and black slacks, with silver boots.
“Your singing was magnificent!”
The dog days.
Catnap blushes a bit, smiling.
“Why thank you.”
He says with a little bow.
When he stands up, he walks closer.
“To whom do I owe the pleasure?”
He asks.
The dog bows politely.
“Prince Dogday, of the kingdom of Sunstar.”
Catnap curtsies.
“Lavender.” He says. “Lovely to meet you, your majesty.”
Dogday smiles. “Oh no, the pleasure is all mine.”
He says.
He offers a hand.
“Would you… care to walk with me?”
Catnap smiles and nods, taking it.
The two stroll along together for a few moments, taking in each other’s company.
“So, what are you doing here?”
Catnap asks about half a mile later. “Shouldn’t you be up at the palace?”
Dogday sighs.
“Well, I usually am.” He says. “But today, I was feeling stressed, so I asked for some time off, to have a nature walk.”
Catnap nods. “I understand.”
He says. “Is it helping?”
Dogday smiles and nods. “Immensely.”
He briefly lets go of Catnap’s hand to spread his arms out, twirling around.
“I just love being in nature.”
He says.
“Getting some fresh, clean air, seeing all the lovely sights, and hearing the beautiful sounds…”
He sighs.
“It’s just ethereal.”
Catnap smiles. “I get what you mean.”
Dogday steps closer.
“And you know what else is ethereal?”
Catnap tilts his head.
“What…?”
Dogday gently strokes Catnap’s face, grabbing his chin and looking deeply into his eyes.
“Meeting someone like you~”
Catnap blushes.
“Oh, thank you…”
He says, smiling.
Dogday giggles.
“You’re welcome…”
He says, letting go to gently take his hand again.
The two continue walking together, Catnap leaning his head on Dogday’s shoulder and making him smile and blush.
“Are you sure that I’ve never seen you before…?”
Catnap whispers in his dreamlike state.
“You look… familiar somehow."
Dogday giggles.
“Well honestly… I don’t think we’ve met before… but…”
He smiles gently.
“It feels like we have.”
Catnap smiles.
“I, I get what you mean.”
Then, music began to play, as if from nowhere, the same song Catnap had been singing.
Dogday offers a hand.
“Would you… like to dance…?”
Catnap nods, gently taking it.
Dogday gently puts a hand on Catnap’s waist, starting to slowly spin around with him.
They gradually went from slowly dancing, to twirling around together, in perfect tandem to the rhythm of the music.
As the two danced, their hearts beat in sync, their eyes sparkling and their faces lightly tinted with blush. As the song progressed, the two danced as gracefully as the northern wind itself, not stepping on each other’s feet even once.
Dogday was having so much fun, spinning with Catnap, twirling him, dancing around with him…
The duo spent the whole afternoon together, dancing, talking, laughing, and along the way, falling deeper and deeper in love with one another.
When it was nearing the end of the day, the two held hands as they walked to a nearby cliffside.
Sitting down to look at the view of the castle, Catnap purrs as he leans his head on Dogday's shoulder.
Dogday smiles, gently slipping a hand around Catnap’s waist as he admires the beautiful view of the kingdom.
It was a peaceful moment.
Then, Dogday gets an idea, blushing.
“Hey Lav?”
He asks.
Catnap opens one eye. “Hmm?”
Dogday looks away, blushing.
“C-can I…”
He then shifts, to gently take hold of his hands, while looking him in the eye.
“Kiss you…?”
Catnap turns red.
“Uh…”
After a moment of awkward silence, Dogday’s smile fades.
“N-no you’re right…”
He says, gently letting go of his hands. “That’s a bit too far…”
He looks down. “Sorry…”
"W-wait!"
Catnap says, leaning forward.
“I-i want to!”
Dogday looks back, blushing.
“R-really…?”
Catnap nods, smiling softly.
“I… I don’t know what it is about you, but… I feel like…”
He gently strokes the underside of Dogday’s jaw, making him blush.
“We’re… meant to be.”
Dogday smiles, leaning in.
As they kissed, magic sparkles seemed to float in the air around them.
Catnap wraps his arms around Dogday’s neck, while Dogday moves to gently wrap his arms around Catnap’s waist, pulling him closer as they kiss each other passionately.
They both wished it could have lasted forever…
But unfortunately, they had to pull back due to lack of air.
“Oh Dogday…”
Catnap says, dreamily looking into Dogday’s eyes.
“I… I know we just met but…”
He leans in, rubbing noses with him.
“I think I love you.”
Dogday smiles, leaning in to briefly kiss him again.
“I love you too…”
He says once pulling back. “You’re the most beautiful person I've ever met… both inside and out.”
Catnap smiles happily, laughing in glee as he hugs him tightly.
The two embrace for a few moments, before Catnap remembers something.
His smile fades, pulling back.
“Oh dear…”
He says.
Dogday frowns.
“What?”
Catnap sadly gets up.
“It’s mid-afternoon…” he says, picking up his basketful of berries. “I need to get home before sunset.”
“Oh…”
Dogday says sadly, getting up as well.
“Will I see you again?”
Catnap nods. “Sure, sweetie.” He says. “Why don’t you come by the old woodcutter’s cottage this evening?”
Dogday smiles. “Alright, I'll see you then?”
Catnap gives him another kiss before leaving.
“Yup.” He says, turning away. “See you soon, my love~”
And he was off, leaving Dogday blushing and smiling like a dork.
Notes:
I tried to make Dogday seem not too creepy-
I would have used once upon a dream but I have negative connotations with that song due to it being associated with a certain SC webcomic comic that I don’t like and try to peacefully avoid but it pops up everywhere on the DayNap tag for some reason despite it being clear that DayNap is not canon and will never be canon in that au
So anyway I used “Too good to be true” from fun and fancy free because it’s a really underrated Disney love song
Sorry for the mini vent thereHere is the song:

Chapter Text
Back at the cottage, things weren’t going well.
Crafty’s ‘baking’ had resulted in a large, gloopy, droopy looking cake, that she was trying to light the candles on.
“There we go!”
She says, blowing out the matchstick.
She then noticed it was about to fall over.
“Oop!”
She says, getting a nearby broom and using it to try and prop up the ‘cake’.
“Well, what do you think?”
She asked Bobby, who was still working on the ‘dress’, which looked like a jumbled mess of fabric, seams and bows, wrapped around a very angry looking Hoppy.
Bobby looks over.
“Why it’s-”
She goes cold when she sees the giant glob of frosting and batter.
“W-well, it’s… quite an UNUSAL cake.”
She says, trying to be polite about it.
Crafty nods. “Yes…”
She noticed the candles were sliding down the mop handle, quickly starting to put them back on top.
“Of course it’ll be much stiffer after it’s baked!”
“Of course.” Bobby says. “And um, what do you think of the dress?”
Crafty walks over, smiling awkwardly.
“Well, it’s uh… not exactly like the one in the book, is it?”
Bobby giggles. “Well, I did modify it a bit.” she says.
“But perhaps, if I added a few more ruffles, it’d look better, what do you think?”
Crafty nods awkwardly. “Y-yeah, I think so…”
She looks at Hoppy. “What do you think, Hoppy?”
Hoppy growls.
“I think I’ve had enough of this nonsense!”
She says, hopping off the stool as the dress falls completely apart, leaving the floor a mess of ribbons and fabric.
“I think we ought to think of Lavvy, and what he’ll think of this catastrophic mess!”
She storms off.
“I still think what I've thought all along! I am going to get those wands!”
She says as she disappears up the stairs.
The rest of the cake melts into a gloopy mess, leaving only one candle lit.
Crafty sighs.
“Honestly, I think Hoppy’s right…”
She says sadly, putting a hand on Bobby’s shoulder.
Bobby looks down. “Maybe…”
Hoppy excitedly comes back downstairs, waving them around.
“Here they are!” She says, beaming. “Good as new-”
Bobby freaks out, quickly running over and covering Hoppy’s mouth, grabbing the wands.
“Be CAREFUL, Hoppy!”
She says.
She looks around, paranoid.
“Quickly, lock the doors!”
Hoppy nods, going to do so.
“Crafty, you close the windows! Plug up every cranny!”
Crafty closes and locks all the windows, then plugs the cracks with rags, so that no light is coming in.
“We can’t take any chances!”
Bobby says as she used more rags to plug up all the holes, so that absolutely nothing or no one outside the house could see inside.
As the finishing touch, Hoppy closes and locks the door to the upstairs.
Bobby then giggles excitedly.
“Now Crafty, you take care of the cake!”
She says, handing Crafty her blue wand, who then goes to redo the cake.
Hoppy chimes in.
“And I'll-”
Bobby hands her her green wand, interrupting her.
“Clean the room, sweetie! And I'll make the dress!”
Hoppy grumbles a minute, before sighing.
“Fine…”
She goes over to the cleaning supplies.
“Come on, bucket, mop, broom.”
She says as she casts magic on each, bringing them to life.
“Bobby says clean up the room!”
The mop, bucket and broom dance downstairs, the broom sweeping up the mess left by Bobby’s attempts at dressmaking, guided by Hoppy.
Bobby giggles, magically lifting up some red fabric.
“And now, to make a beautiful dress, fit for royalty!”
With a flick of her wand, the fabric turns into a red dress base, that was tailored to Catnap’s exact measurements.
“Eggs, flour, lemon!”
Crafty sings cheerfully as she magically gathers the cake ingredients.
Then she gets confused.
“Uh, just do it like it says in the book.”
She tells the living ingredients. “I’ll put on the candles.”
The ingredients get to work, measuring out 3 equal cups of flour, while three eggs crack themselves into the bowl, followed by the heavy cream.
Hoppy giggles as she guides the broom and magically levitates the furniture to sweep underneath it, including the chair she was currently standing on.
Once the dust was in a pile, she didn’t really know what to do with it, so she just laughed, magically making it disappear.
Crafty smiles, tasting the cinnamon that was mixing into the bowl.
Then, once the batter was ready, she magically shapes it into a perfect 4-tier cake.
Bobby magically cuts the red fabric for the second sleeve, sewing it together, then magically stitches it onto the beautiful dress, which was nearly fully completed.
Hoppy giddily dances alongside the mop while cleaning the floor, as if she and it were at a grand ball, smiling as she magically twists it into the bucket to wring it out.
She also uses it to clean underneath Crafty’s feet, magically lifting HER up, and making her adorably giggle.
As Hoppy was working on cleaning, she spots Bobby busy magically applying a ribbon trim to the bottom of the dress.
“Oh no, not red!”
She whispers, shaking her head.
“Make it green!”
She says, casting magic on the dress and turning all the fabric different shades of light and dark green.
Bobby gasps.
“Hoppy!” She says angrily.
“Make it red.” She says, turning the dress back red.
Hoppy was still dancing around with the mop, subtly waving her wand at the dress.
“Make it green!”
The dress ribbon slowly makes it all green again, distracting Bobby.
“Etch- RED!”
She says, making it red again and glaring at Hoppy.
Hoppy sees the dress’s reflection in a pan hanging above the stove, casting magic on that, which bounces off the metal and goes towards the dress.
Bobby gets in the way, the magic hitting her and making HER clothes green.
“Ach- this is NOT my color!”
Hoppy laughs, before Bobby turns HER clothes red, and goes back to the dress.
“HEY!”
Hoppy angrily turns Bobby’s clothes green again, and in turn Bobby turns hers red again.
Things escalated until it got into an all out magical duel, Bobby and Hoppy angrily shooting their respectively colored magic at each other.
Crafty was caught in the middle as she magically iced the now-baked cake, ducking so none of the magic hit her.
What nobody noticed however, was that the magic was going up the ONE entrance they forgot to block… the chimney.
Magical spouts of green and red were coming out the chimney, making a bit of a flashing light show in the middle of the woods.
The magical colors of red and green could be seen from the top of the forest, getting the attention of a particular raven…
They fly down, looking down the chimney, only to be hit with a beakful of red and green magic, knocking them off the side and making them land on the ground.
Inside the house, the color war continued, neither one relenting, both girls casting red and green spells at each other, angrily.
That was, until they both cast their magic at the EXACT same time.
The magic spells both clashed onto the dress, turning it green AND red, and making it look like a tacky Christmas tree.
“Now look at what you’ve done!”
Bobby says angrily.
“Me!? It was YOUR fault!”
Hoppy rebukes.
Suddenly, Crafty, who was lighting the candles, notices something, shushing them.
“Shh! Listen!”
They all hush up, listening.
Not too far away, they can hear Catnap’s singing.
“It’s Lavvy!”
Hoppy says, making her own clothes green again.
Bobby makes hers red again.
“Enough of this foolishness!”
She says, taking the dress.
Hoppy quickly cleans and puts away all the dishes, while Bobby makes the dress fully red once again and then gently pulls Crafty, who was lighting the candles, by the arm.
“Hide! Quickly!”
Crafty magically lights the rest of the candles, then goes to follow hoppy.
Before she hides, Hoppy makes the dress green once again.
Catnap smiles, walking up to the house.
“Auntie Bobby!” He says.
The three fairies were hiding in the stairwell, waiting for Catnap.
“GOOD GRACIOUS!”
Bobby suddenly cries out, pointing to the still-dancing mop.
“Who left the mop running?!”
Hoppy gasps.
“Stop, mop!”
She says, zapping it with her wand and making it fall to the floor.
And just in the nick of time too, before Catnap walks through the door.
