Chapter Text
~Fifteen years ago~
The atmosphere is suffocating. Thick enough for a knife to cut through it. The prime minister and his two agents follow behind the guards through the eerily quiet asylum. Not one person dared to speak as the group neared the restricted area. One guard took the keys from his waistband and fiddled to find the right one. Once it was found he inserted the key and unlocked it. The heavy click made the prime minister’s skin crawl. “You really want to go through with this plan, sir”, one of his agents asked. The man clears his throat and straightens his posture. “Of course I do. I told you, they are the best in the business. I am sure they will do a great job.”
“But are you certain that they will do a good job with this task?”
“You’re quite chatty”, the old guard says boldly. “Nervous~?”
The prime minister lets out a hearty laugh. “Nonsense! My agents are just very concerned for my wellbeing. But this is what I want.”
The old man shrugs. “If you say so. Take them downstairs. Oh, and choose your words wisely with one of them. He isn't too…stable.” The man gives a mocking salute and a lackluster “good luck” before walking away to allow his younger subordinates to take the lead. All five men began to descend the dark staircase that led to a dimly lit hall. Upon reaching the bottom the guards continue on. The prime minister began to feel a bit of excitement. He would really be face to face with the two men he was sure would do the job right.
And there they were behind glass. Small holes give them the luxury of a bit of air.
An inhumanly tall, beastly man stood near the corner of his cage. Seemingly anxious despite his intimidating stature and power. His ocean blue eyes held a burning stare on the five men before him. His eyes were calculating, watching their every move with intent. And he wasn’t the only one that stared at them with anger.
The man next was chained to the wall. He was covered in a straight jacket with chains being an addition to keep the beast at bay. His face was covered in an armored mask. Hiding the mystery to who he was. But those icy blue eyes burned into the men. Ready to tear each and every one of them apart slowly and painfully.
The prime minister smiles from ear to ear. He lets out a hearty laugh as he approaches them. He felt like he had just won the lottery. His agents reached for their guns in preparation for anything. The guards did the same but guns were replaced with extended high voltage tasers. A great necessity for monsters like these soldiers.
“Colonel König and Lieutenant Nikto. It’s such a pleasure to finally meet you both in person~!”
Neither man took it upon themselves to speak up first. A visitor from the prime minister was extremely unusual. And with how jovial the free man was they knew it wasn’t solely because he was happy to see them. Despite rattled nerves, König—the Goliath, decided to speak up. “What is it that you want from us?” The prime minister lowers his open arms, huffing with amusement. “Quick with the questions, aren’t we?” The man then turns his head and motions for the two young guards to leave him and his agents with König and Nikto. It wasn’t an easy task with just simple words. With a bit of bribery, the two of them scurried off and waited when they were called on. “Now, where were we? Ah, yes—.”
The rich man steps even closer to the glass. “I know you boys know me, Prime Minister Zimmerman—.”
“The one who had a bounty on his head”, Nikto says. His voice raspy and low as he growled. More than likely because of the lack of water and barely speaking up doing the trick. Zimmerman chuckles vehemently, “yes, that Zimmerman.”
“So why are you here? You know you are still a target.”
“That’s right, Colonel. I still am. And unfortunately that puts me and my loved ones in a bad bind.” That once joyous look on the man’s face is replaced with one of seriousness. The moment between the three of them was stifling. Yet König and Nikto wouldn’t dare show it. This man may be powerful, but he was just as corrupt—if not worse (all coming together as to why he had a bounty on him in the first place). But for the very man that the two failed to kill to be before them, he had a motive.
“You see, I’ve already lost my wife…my two sons. And my own mother to punks like you”, he spits. The once happy fulfilling life he had with his wife, sons, and mother were now only memories. Hell, Zimmerman followed in the footsteps of his father. But something had to be done. His corrupt nature wasn’t obvious to where he had to step down. But enough for people that lurked in the shadows to be after him. Wanting him to surrender himself and walk straight into the abyss. “And I only have one treasure left. And you two are going to protect that treasure of mine.”
“What’s in it for us”, Nikto asks bitterly.
“And why us”, König followed up.
Zimmerman brings a smile to his face once more. “I have an offer you both can’t refuse.” He pulls out two pieces of paper and brings them up to the glass. König and Nikto made their way over to read it. The chains that bonded Nikto rattled and ringing out in the fairly quiet basement of the deserted lab they were kept in.
The papers were contracts.
“You two will sign these contracts. You will be bound to me for fifteen years. After that, you will have a choice. Continue to work for me. Or, return to your company. Your titles and respect will be kept and you may do as you once were able to do before your captivity.”
It wasn’t a bad offer. Fifteen years was a lot, but time would go fast. And they would be damned if they had to stay tied down to the man they would willingly kill on the spot if they had two. “I’m going to guess that if we fail this, you will have us killed”, König grumbles.
Another one of the man’s annoying laughs falls from behind his bushy beard. “You have a sharp mind, son. Not only will you be killed, but you will be erased from this world. And anyone who dares to utter your name of who you were, they will be dead too. This is a very important task and a great offer I’m making. And you don’t have all day to decide.”
König and Nikto straighten their posture. They eye each other for a bit. Almost as if they could speak to each other with just their minds. Although the consequence of any failure was quite detrimental, it also was a great offer. They could be free and go back to their lives once fifteen years were up. Besides, who would want to watch over someone’s treasure beyond that? After the silence, König and Nikto turn their gaze back to Zimmerman. “You have a deal”, König says. “But you must have my mask returned to me.”
If it were possible, the smile that graced Zimmerman’s face would’ve split his lower face in half. He finally got what he had wanted.
“You got yourself a deal~.”
With that, the holes that surrounded the glass closed shut and a red gas filled the cages. The men didn’t put up much of a fight as they knew what this gas would do to them. Their eyes began to feel heavy before darkness finally followed.
•••••
When the men finally awoke. They first found themselves in their old uniforms and Nikto was free of the many chains that held him back. It appeared that they were in a study. The room is almost half the size of a prestigious public library. Nikto tried to walk around, his body jerked a bit. He looked down to see that his ankle was chained to a sturdy pillar as well as König. König couldn’t help the laugh that slipped past his mouth. And although he had his makeshift mask back on his face, Nikto could already tell that König was giving him a mocking smirk. “He’s not as dumb as I thought he would be”, Nikto huffed.
“It would appear so, my friend”, König says.
“I’m not your fucking friend.”
“I’ve known you longer than I would have liked.”
König ignores the sharp glare Nikto throws his way by opting to look over at the large oak desk. There is paperwork that is neatly placed in a pile; held by a crystal paper weight and some papers were scattered around. Possibly the ones that were being looked at for the time being. What caught König’s eye was the four picture frames on the desk. Three of them were just a little girl, smiling and looking all happy despite the shitty country she lives in. And the fourth had a picture with the little girl and Zimmerman together. They were in front of the fountain. Zimmerman held the happy child in his arms as he stared at her lovingly.
So that must mean…
König’s thoughts were interrupted by voices being heard outside the study. Him and Nikto were on high alert as the voices drew closer. Suddenly the door busts open. Three women in long black dresses and white aprons looked panicked as they tried to get a hold of the person who opened the door. But it was too late since the person walked into the study and right to the men.
“You must be the new bodyguards daddy was talking about!”
It was the little girl in the pictures. And this little girl so bravely held both her hands out for the dangerous soldiers to shake. “I’m Y/n! It’s nice to meet you~!”
It was in a split second that König and Nikto realized that the man’s so-called treasure was his daughter.
