Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Daten City.

It was a shithole, but it was a shithole that had near unlimited potential. Shame that it used that potential to be an even bigger shithole, even if it cleaned itself nice each time it took a dump on itself.

Even then, no one could really blame Daten City. It wasn’t its fault that it was made between Heaven and Hell, right at where they should meet.

Still it didn’t change that even if it was made here, everything else in the city was a total mess.

Despite that it was filled with style and with style was sin.

Ghost’s roamed the streets, ready to make more ghosts or just to be a fucking nuisance and piss people off.

In any case there were a lot of them, a shit ton of them if you wanted to be accurate.

And something like an abundance of ghosts often attracted those that were interested in what they can provide.

The skies of Daten City were a bruised purple, the pollution from the many sex shops giving it an oddly sexy look. It helped that the many clubs pulsed with a bright Neon light, even in the morning.

And watching it all, from a high-rise that groaned under its own weight, two figures stared down at the city.

Behind them, a billboard flickered—first advertising a church that promised righteous retribution (its golden light gleaming off the glasses of one), then glitching into a promo for a new club called Hell’s Door (its crimson glow dancing across the bracelets of the other).

“So this is where she took us huh?” One of them spoke, dressed in a sleeveless hoodie that showed skin that was tanner than most, over a shirt redder than the Devil himself. Muscled from the shoulder to forearms, with his hands stuffed into his pockets. Pocket that belonged to a pair of jeans.

He was leaning forward and back, balancing on the heels of his combat boot, swaying in the wind as if he was waiting for something to happen. As he did, the two pairs of earrings that hung from his ear lobe swayed with him, the accessory glowing in the Neon. His mouth pulled into a grin, revealing sharp teeth as his red eyes widened “I can’t tell if this is a shithole, or a goldmine.”

“According to her,” the other figure spoke up, being the total opposite of the one before. A clean crisp suit that looked like it was pressed by God himself. Tucked tightly into a pair of slacks that hugged his lean, but still muscular frame. Both of his hands behind him back.

He stood straight, posture rigid as his blue eyes focused on the city before him. Already glancing from right to left, observing everything. The wind blew behind him, and the tie that hung from his neck flapping slightly in the wind, but it hung with weight that was heavier than the shoes that he wore “This city has the highest ghost concentration in the world.”

The other one scoffed, turning to him with a raised eyebrow “Riiiiight, like she’s trustworthy.”

All he got was a shake of the other one’s head “It’s not like we have any choice.”

That got a bark of laugh from the, his head thrown back letting his wild red mane flap in the wind.

“Fair enough,” He stopped laughing and eyed him with a grin “I guess that settles it.”

“Correct,” A hand moved and cleanly through the head of blonde hair, smoothing it down “We know what we must do.”

The grin on the other’s face then dropped, his eyes that glinted with excitement faded as he stared with pure boredom. ““No Tie, please. We can just pick an alley—there's definitely a Ghost waiting to get its ass kicked!”

Taking out both hands from his back, the newly named Tie had taken out a clipboard, from somewhere who knows, and tapped onto the paper at the front. It shined with a gold holy light and an equally scarlet infernal shine.

You know. Balanced

“Ring,” The frown in his voice could be heard a mile away. “We were given directions where to go, and how to log that we killed the ghosts so that we could collect the coin.”

Ring threw his head back, but this time not to laugh. Instead his hands gripped his head and rustled it as he groaned in frustration.

“Fuck, why does it have to have rules?!” Ring exclaimed!

RING

He Punches First and Answers Never

“Excuse you, I happen to like the rules!” Tie replied, almost offended.

TIE

He Follows The Rules Unfortunately.

Ring sighed and glared at him “Fine, whatever just tell us where we need to go first.”

“According to her,” Tie pointed at the paper on his clipboard “The Daten Mega Mall.”

Ring snorted, and then smirked “Welp at least we can have fun there while we’re hunting Ghosts.”

Tie rolled his eyes, “Just don’t forget to do your job.”

And so they left, their legs lifted off the ground.

To turn to the exit door.
