The Dawn of Something New

Summary:

If someone told you a week from now you’d be fighting against an army of aliens in New York City, led by a vengeful god- you probably have called them insane before skipping town.
But here you are, putting your life on the line, alongside 6 other individuals you’ve known for little more than two days. Risking it all to protect the planet you’ve come to love.

This is the story about you, a half-human omega in hiding, fighting for your beliefs and maybe making a home and pack of your own along the way.

Notes:

The story will be taking place with the first avengers film. It’s mostly canon for now with added in scenes from readers point of view.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: The Before

Chapter Text

Being an omega is challenging. Being an omega in hiding, is almost impossible.
You once heard that omegas only make up around 10% of life throughout the universe. On most planets and species, omegas are highly valued. Some places, omegas are in positions of power, ruling over lands; in other places they are traded, like rare gemstones. Once you remember travelling to a planet that kept omegas completely separate from other secondary genders until they came of age to mate.

Growing up your birth pack travelled a lot. We travelled far and wide seeing many unique places and cultures. Your parents were merchants, selling goods at different planets we traveled to. Sometimes to buyers, other times at bustling markets. Some of your best childhood memories are of exploring exotic markets, so many scents, trying new foods, seeing people and creatures from far and wide. To see so many places was a gift.

It was only when you were older did you find out the real reason you never stayed in one place for too long. Why you weren’t allowed to get too close to anyone or stay in contact with them once we moved. Why when officials passed you and your mother were hidden from sight.
You were different. A dominant gene passed from your mother.
You are Volo-desiderium. A species hunted throughout the galaxies for our unique biology.

Those with Volo genes are blessed with strength, strong self healing abilities, and quick reflexes; nothing completely out of the ordinary in some species throughout the galaxies.
Volos have uncommonly strong scents.
While yes, everyone has unique scents. Scents you’re born with that change as you grow, impacted with environmental scents and can shift with emotions.
Most have their own preference when it comes to scents and what they find attractive, however other than their uncommonly strong scents, Volo’s scents are strangely inclusive and alluring to all. An unusual trait in their DNA, but not the reason they are pursued.
No the reason we are hunted is due to what happens when we mate.
Like all species when a mate bond is formed it happens on a genetic level, spiritual even; however those with Volo blood something unique happens. We are blessed to be able to share our abilities with our mates.

The way your mum explained it was: when she mated with father, he developed enhanced reflexes; while mum, she developed a stronger sense of smell and a tolerance to heat. Her tolerance to heat wasn’t as strong as fathers (him coming from a planet known for its boiling seas) however she could now touch boiling kettle without getting burnt.
With this potentially powerful genetic ability, the Volo’s were hunted down and either sold off to be mated to rich and powerful or slaughtered for the danger they may become.

For eons, it was decreed that Volos where to be hunted and killed for rewards. This law made by ruining factions throughout the universe was upheld until a couple of centuries ago. With so few volo left, we were no longer a threat, just a near extinct species.
A new law was written, Volos were now a ‘protected species’ and that we are to be rescued and taken in my officials to keep safe, to be free of persecution.

All bullshit according to mother. The truth is more likely to be taken captive to mate with those in power so they themselves can gain more power.
So despite the new law of possible safety and protection, mum stayed on the run. Never allowing herself to be caught just like her father taught her, and his mum before him. Choosing the danger of freedom over a cage- no matter how nice that cage may be.

She was a strong stubborn woman that loved to be spontaneous. You remember how much she loved her music. She would dance around with bells worn on her ankles and always humming a tune wherever she went. Like you she was an omega. Never one to be stereotypical, she was incredibly stubborn; you don’t think you ever saw her submit to anyone she didn’t choose to.

She taught you that being an omega is not weak, that their is a strength in choosing giving yourself to another. That your omega instincts are not just to submit and calm but also to protect and defend.

The rest of your birth pack was small only 6 of us. While some packs are made up of just 3 or 4, packs with an omega usually are at least made up of 8 or more mates.
It’s very unusual for an omega to only have 4 mates, but then again being on the run doesn’t leave many opportunities to form meaningful bonds with potential partners.

There was Pops, a strong thrifty alpha with always a smirk on their face. While they never outright admitted it to you, they definitely used to be a thief. You used to marvel at their slight-of-hand tricks and quickness. They taught you many tips on how to be silent and stealthy.

Ba, your kindhearted beta mother who was so, so gentle. She was always quiet and understanding. You remember her beautiful red skin that was so soft and how she always gave the best hugs.

Papa, your biological father and a beta human that the pack met when they stopped on earth for a time. He was so extroverted and loved travelling, and when it was time for the pack to move on from earth he didn’t hesitate to join them.

And Dad. He was the last surviving of them. He took you to earth before passing. The strongest man you ever knew. An alpha, raised as a warrior on his home planet. He wasn’t just strong physically but mentally too. He was a good father and took care of you till the end.

Another thing that was unusual with your childhood was being an only child. For an omega to only have one child was extremely rare, however after an injury mum struggled conceiving. Due to the risk towards mums health and to minimise the chances to being discovered, they decided to not have anymore children.

Around 5 they decided it was best you learnt to fight. They wanted you to be able to defend yourself if anything were to happen.
Dad, being born into a warrior family, was in charge of your training. Pops would also step in and help, teaching you to be swift and light on your feet.
Despite the brawling hard work it was, you enjoyed it.
When you presented at 17 as an omega was stressful. With stronger pheromones and a lot more potential danger both Dad and Pops became more intense in training, as did the lessons with mum learning how to control your scent.
Between training and travelling to exotic planets, your childhood was good. Despite the close calls and challenges it was a happy time of your life.

Those happy times ended with your childhood when the pack was killed.
Working it out you were around 23 human years then, still considered a youngling as Volo age much slower from what humans do. We recently had a close call due to mum going into an unexpected heat while on a planet. While she safely had the rest of the heat in the ship it cause rumours to spread of a Volo sighting.
Due to the heavy suspicions around the area and some ships being stopped and inspected, they decided to go to a nearby planet to lay low until the attention died down.
That was a mistake. We should have never have stayed on that planet. Shortly after we were discovered by a convoy and they tried to take mum. During the fight mum, Ba, Pops and Pa were all killed. Only Dad and you managed to survive.

Afterwards is a blur, you remember running and stealing a ship but mostly just the all consuming grief. Due to the contingency plans they had already made it wasn’t too difficult and we safely headed towards the earth. Due to the low grade technology and no ties to other organisations it was our best bet to stay hidden.

After landing and hiding the ship, we travelled for a number of years. With dad having being there before and the stories you had heard from Pa, we did have some knowledge of the planet.
While travelling dad got you scent blockers and suppressants to keep your omega status secret as much as possible. However due to being Volo, your scent is enhanced and apparently enticing, so even with the medication and your practiced scent control, it wasn’t enough to keep your scent completely covered.
To minimise the risk of being discovered, wearing fully covering clothes to cover your scent glands anytime you were outside became the new normal.
You mostly stayed inside or alone. The only person you would spend any prolonged amount of time with was dad. However after losing the pack he was slowly getting weaker and more sick, the toll of losing his mates was too much.
After loosing all of your mates, especially an omega bond, most don’t live long, it’s almost as if their bodies just shut down. Despite getting slowly weaker and more sick dad continued to live for years after.
He continued for your sake, ensuring your safety and future on the planet.

During that time of grief and sadness training became a distraction, a relief, a coping mechanism for you. After being on earth for a couple years your dad met a man named Nick Fury and you both started doing missions with him.

This continued until your dad’s death. After his passing you stopped doing the missions at his request. You stayed safe and lived a quiet unassuming life on earth.
That was until the call came.

Chapter 2: The Call

Summary:

A call to action from an old family friend.

Notes:

Let’s get this story rolling!

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

It was an average day when the call came.

Walking out of the steamy bathroom, towel drying your hair, you make your way over to the kitchen. After the normal morning training regimen you were pondering what to have for breakfast when a shrill sound came from your left. Immediately tensing it took you a second to register what the sound was and where it was coming from. Having not heard that ringtone in years, not since before dad died.

Without hesitating another moment you quickly jog over to the bookshelf. Reaching up to pull down the small wooden box, while ignoring the disturbing amount of dust you open it. Inside lay a single small grey satellite phone.
Taking a deep breath, you hit the answer button before bringing it up to your ear.
Through the crackly line you hear Fury’s voice. “We need you to come in”
If he was calling after all these years then the reason couldn’t good. Grabbing a nearby pen and paper you ask. “Where and when?”

“In 2 hours, 10 miles south of your location a plane will pick you up. I’ll send over coordinates”
Knowing better to ask how he knew your location, instead you began to mentally prepare for whatever fight you was about to step into.

“I’ll be there.” you answered before the line went dead.

Rushing around the house you gather what you need. On autopilot after years of growing up on the run, your birth pack taught you from a young age to be prepared. To have plans set in place so that you could not just to leave the immediate location but the planet if necessary. Grabbing the to-go bags and making necessary arrangements didn’t take long.

As you make a quick breakfast, several slices of toast with a healthy slavering of your favourite spread, you gulp your suppressants down with water. While finishing up the toast and mentally going over the preparations have just done and anymore you need to do before leaving the house you make your way into the bedroom, before putting out your suit on the bed.
Seeing the suit lay out before had you reminiscing.
You remember sitting next to Ba, watching while she stitched it together, the fabric was from a small booth in a busy market on the planet we stopped at shortly.

Shaking yourself from the memories you put on the suit. Zipping up the side before looking in the full length mirror. Running your fingers over the seams, admiring the sleek black fabric that hugs your curves.
Ba truly outdid herself with the design, with the built in hood and mask to not just cover your identity but also to help mask some of your scent. Tucking a dagger into each of boot, and grabbing the leg garter off the bed before attaching it to your upper thigh. While taking extra care not to nick yourself on the attached throwing blades, you secure make sure it was adjusted properly and secure.
Next you put on the belt around your middle, tightening it at your waist. Looking in the hidden pouch of the belt, you check the back up medication and scent blockers in there, before doing the same with the hidden storage in the harness. Confirming the emergency supplies were there you shrug the harness on your back.
Grabbing your staff from the bed you give it a quick twirl feeling comfort with the familiar cool metal in your hands.

The dark metal staff was a present for your 10th birthday. Similar to dad’s own spear, one he was trained with on his home world. As he was born to a warriors family and grew up being trained to protect his planet, like his fathers before him, he continued that tradition and did the same raising me. Training me to be able to protect myself and my home.
Unlike his spear, pa and dad designed my staff for my smaller size and strength, the staff divides into two parts, each able to extend, doubling in size. The two pieces can easily join together in a tall stable pole. Made with a strong dark metal, each end has a sharp metal spearhead that extends when triggered.

Smiling to yourself, after thinking of your birth pack, you slot in each half to the harness on your back.
With one final look in the mirror, and happy with your appearance, you slip on the gloves, grab the bags and lock up one final time before making your way over to the car.

You always knew the call would come eventually.
Since the day you arrived on this planet with dad 22 years ago, you knew that one day you would have to leave. Granted 22 is the longest you had ever stayed on one planet it still feels too short.
While it’s not the biggest planet, Earth has so much changing and diverse terrain it still feels you hadn’t seen enough of it.
You used to think Pa was biased about his home world with the way he talked about it with such passion. But after spending so much time here, seeing the different countries and cultures, you know why he felt as fond as he did. Maybe your slightly biased myself, being half human, but you would be sad to leave Earth, especially as you had only recently discovered a food called a cinnamon roll which had quickly became a favourite. You ponder if you could remake it on a different planet, surely you could find substitute ingredients.

Shaking yourself from your wondering thoughts, a quick glance at the dashboard told you 20 more minutes before pickup time.
Taking a deep measured breath you continue driving towards the coordinates Fury text over, fingers tapping along to the song on the radio your mind wanders to Fury.

Nick Fury. The last person alive to know that your an omega; a hardworking man, with this planet and its safety as his highest priority. Having decided to trust him to keep your secondary gender a secret but not with your true heritage. While he knows that your half human, he believes your other parent was a Krylorian alien. While yes your Ba was Krylorian, you are not hers biologically.

If he found out about the whole being a Volo and them being highly hunted across the galaxies no matter the cost and the possible threat your presence being here could be to this earth…. Yeah you don’t trust him not to hand you over to the nearest officials, or even kill you to insure the safety of humans everywhere. Not that you would hold it against him, his dedication to earth and its people was admirable.

With the constant moving and keeping people at a distance he is the closest person you have in your life. A man you hadn’t seen in years is the closest connection you have. Chucking at that depressing thought, you think back to the present situation at hand. Even if you can’t fully trust him, you do trust that whatever the reason he had called it will be incredibly important and many people’s lives will be at stake.
With that thought in your head, you tighten your grip on the steering wheel, and press harder on the accelerator, flying down the straight road.

Hope you enjoyed!
Longtime fanfic reader-first time writing anything! Any feedback would be appreciated.

I’m unsure if my description of your suit and staff is clear so thinking I might upload some idea sketches I did. Possiblyy.

Chapter 3: Take Off

Chapter Text

The last time you saw Fury was just after your dad died, mission gone sideways.
Dad made you promise that after his death, that you would stay safe, to put yourself first and not fight unless necessary. Too many risks he said.

And you’ve upheld that promise.
Despite the itch to move, to fight, to help people; you’ve lived a quiet unassuming life. Moving every now and again to stay under the radar, never growing too close to anyone for them to discover your second gender. You’ve taking up many different hobbies and not once getting into a fight, making sure to keep a distance from people and not forming strong attachments, never drawing any attention to myself. The only thing you’ve fought against the last years is the mind numbing boredom and loneliness.
All to not get discovered, to stay safe. So you can keep that promise to him.

Your last contact with Fury, you both agreed that he wouldn’t make contact unless it was a serious threat to the earth. That he would leave you alone and off any government agencies, and in return if a threat did occur to earths safety then you would help. And at least that way if there was any off world threat looming at least you wouldn’t be caught completely unaware.
Until this morning Fury kept his word, and hadn’t reached out once, so for him to call now, it had to be deadly.
Knowing that with the possibility of an alien threat means that this could be the end your time spent on this safe planet.
Frowning at the thought of leaving this planet and one of the few connections to your family left, you continued to drive to the meet up point.

After driving along a long straight road surrounded by nothing but farmland for the last five minutes, you finally reach the coordinates. Slowing to a stop you take in the surroundings, a small air field with a runway, an old barn with peeling red paint and a very out-of- place sleek black helicarrier. You spot there’s two figures, clearly agents judging by their formal uniform, black sunglasses and stiff posture. One in the pilot seat, another standing beside the aircraft’s open door.

Stopping the truck, you pull up your mask over your chin and nose, but deciding to keep you hood down, before grabbing your bags from the passenger seat and hopping out.

Quickly walking over to them, the agent standing beside the rumbling aircraft, an alpha you note, nods to you before reaching out his hand to shake.
“Hello I’m agent Smith . The pilot is agent Garez. We are here to escort you.” He calls over the sound of the aircraft’s engine.
You nod once and shake his hand, taking in his sharp fruity scent
“Umbra“ introducing yourself, using your old alias before stepping up onto the aircraft. Feeling eyes on you, you turn and nod at the pilot before sitting. While agent Smith closes the door, you drop your bags by your feet and buckle the seat belt as we begin to take off.

You watch as Agent Smith takes a opposite seat, his back towards the front of the aircraft. As the craft lifts from the ground, agent Smith passes a headset before putting his own on and gestures the button on the side. Coping his movement you press the button and I hear the crackling of the headphone.
“Ma’am can you hear me?” Smiths voice sounds clear over the loud aircraft engine.
“Yes” you reply while nodding back.

“Good. We will arrive at base at approximately 1040 hours. I will take you straight to Director Fury.”
“I have been instructed to inform you on the situation. Here is your debriefing packet”

He hands you a brown packet. Opening it you pull out a photo of a small blue glowing cube and another of a grainy black and white image of a man.
“That is the tesseract. It has the power potential to wipe out the planet and was recently stolen from one of our facilities. The man in the photo is the alien hostile that took it. During the fight, he managed to somehow force several loyal personnel to join his side using his spear.”
You continue to listen to the agent while he goes into detail of the situation, as you look through the package. After fully reading through the information you understand why you’ve been called in.

Your Pops always said it was best to get as much information on your foes as possible. Bearing his advice in mind you ask the agent opposite you,
“If possible I would like to review any footage you have of the hostile. I’d like to learn as much as I can about them”

“I’ll see what I can get for you.” Agent Smith replies before he rummages around in a bag on his left before handing over a large brown envelope.

“Due to the seriousness of the threat you will be working with a team. Here are the files of who you will be working with. The director wanted me to give these to you in advance.”

With having never worked closely with anyone on previous missions for Fury, other than your father, had you questioning if it Fury no longer trusted your ability or was the threat was just that serious.
“Thank you” you muttered as you open the envelope. Inside were 4 white files with the word classified stamped in red on each.
So official you think as you look at the one on top.

Captain Steve Rogers, alias Captain America.
Attached was a small photo of a handsome young man with blonde hair, and blue eyes with a military look about him you note before skimming over the basic information provided.
SHEILD Adviser. Male. Caucasian. 6’2”. Citizenship in United States. Language- English. Alpha- Unbonded. DOB: 07/04/1918
Mmm interesting DOB dated in 1918. You might not of been born on this planet but last time you checked human 94 years olds do not look like that.
Intrigued you continue reading. Enhanced soldier. As a result of Dr. Erskine’s Super Soldier Serum, Rogers’ has become the first enhanced human being- body and mind. All physical attributes as well as cognitive abilities have been heightened to peak efficiency…
Interesting. You know you have an enhanced version of average human strength with your mixed DNA but it does make you curious about how your strength matches up to his.

Feeling eyes on you, you glanced up at the alpha. Agent Smith trying unsuccessfully to covertly look at your staff strapped on your back with a slight frown on his face.
It’s strange to be seen in full combat gear, in the past while wearing it, you stay out of sight and by the time you are seen it’s normally not long until your fighting them. Before you can dwell on the feeling of being seen in your gear, the alpha notices you watching him and quickly straightens in his seat looking slightly embarrassed to be caught staring.

Smiling a little behind your mask at his reaction, you go back to reading the files. Next up is Tony Stark, alias Iron man.
The photo of another handsome man, dark hair and eyes, a goatee, in a tuxedo and bow tie. A very different vibe from the previous man you note, and looks slightly familiar too. Moving down the page you read:
SHEILD Adviser. Male. Caucasian. 5’9”. Citizenship in United States. Language- English, Spanish, Italian, Dari. Alpha-Unbonded. DOB:05/29/1970
Iron Man suit makes an impenetrable armour protection with refined flight capability, and the most powerful and reliable arc reactor. The reactor powers both his pacemaker and the metal alloy suit.
While you don’t keep up much with the news on the planet, you know of Stark Industry and remember hearing about him and his metal suit.

Next up the thinest file.
Natasha Romanov. Alias Black Widow. No picture attached to this one it seems.
SHEILD AGENT. ACTIVE. Female. Caucasian. 5’5”. Alpha.
With most of this file heavily redacted you don’t get much information on this alpha you’ll be be working with.

Moving on to the last file.
Dr. Robert Bruce Banner
The small photo attached was of an average-looking man brown hair and eyes, with glasses in what seems to be a white lab coat.
SHEILD Adviser. Male. Caucasian. 5’9”. Citizenship in United States. Language- English, Latin, Portuguese, Mayan, Punjabi. Beta- unbonded. DOB: 12/08/1969
Physicist, specialising in gamma radiation.
Banner has a M.D. and seven Ph.Ds. in nuclear physics, biochemistry, radiophysics, engineering, robotics, computer science, and mathematics.
After an experiment gone wrong Dr. Banner having been exposed to gamma rays can physically transform into an extremely aggressive, giant, green mutated alpha with extreme strength and durability. While in this state is known as the Hulk. This transformation is triggered by stress at or against Banner’s will.
Just as your getting to the end of reading his file, the pilot, Agent Garez speaks up, “5 minutes out.”

Quickly reading the last of his file your grateful to know we are on the same side albeit nervous to be around the beta turning alpha. And even more thankful for the foresight to bring extra scent blockers as with Dr Banner and Captain Roger’s more-than average human senses, knowing you’ll need to be even more cautious of your pheromones slipping.
However as long as you keep your scent under control you shouldn’t be too concerned, you try to reassure yourself. With being on the strongest scent blockers money can buy, using both the pills to lessen your omega instincts, including pheromone production, and the neutralising spray, with beta chemicals, they should just assume your a beta.
You’ll be ok, you think to yourself as you take a steadying breath.

Feeling calmer, you tuck the files back in the envelope before looking out the window to my right. Over the sea, in the distance there’s a giant carrier. As we get closer you can make out many personnel. Sort of like a beehive with how everyone seems to be hurriedly moving around each with their own job for one purpose.

Watching the agents work as you get closer, its starting to dawn on you just how major this mission is. You always knew Fury was an important man high up in this worlds intelligence but it’s surprising and a little daunting to see just how many people here and the size of the operation. Unbuckling seat belt and standing, you go to grab your bags before agent Smith stops you.

“That’s alright ma’am someone will take your bags to your room for you. If you will follow me I will take you straight to Director Fury” he opens the aircraft door before looking to back at you to follow.
Nodding to him and then towards the pilot as thanks, before you step down out of the craft and follow Agent Smith out onto the busy platform. As you was trained to do since young, without much thought, you quickly survey the deck taking in all the escape routes and any possible threats.

Being around so many people with so many sounds and scents,
was disorienting. The downside of having enhanced senses.
Taking a second to focus on grounding yourself by slowing your breathing and remembering your training, it doesn’t take too long to adjust and be less overwhelmed.
You a deep breath of the fresh sea air and ignore the curious glances of passing personnel, as you swiftly follow behind Agent Smith as he leads across the deck going inside.

Notes:

While writing this story, I drew up some sketches of what I think the readers outfit and weapon looks like.

With this being my first writing I am a little nervous that my description isn’t what I want to get across, so I just wanted to share these sketches to give you a rough idea of what I’m trying to describe.

Chapter Text

You follow Agent Smith through several grey corridors until we end up at a large busy room. ‘The Bridge’ as he called it, was filled with agents working at rows of stations with monitors on the wall backdropped by a huge window overlooking the ocean.
You quickly take in the expanse of the room, from the servers at the sides of the room, the second story glass balcony that lead to other parts of the ship, and the agents standing at attention with guns on their hips places around the room as well as the ones sat in front of monitors.

With so many people talking into earpieces, each in their own conversations it was difficult to make out anything. What little you could make out, was key words like “Threat, Attack, and Alien Weapon”, once again reminding you how serious this situation is.

Before you could continue to listen into conversations you hear Fury’s deep voice. Looking over you spot him not too far away.
Standing at the helm surrounded by monitors he is in his usual attire of all black. He stands confidently with his arms crossed as he commands those around him.
The agent next to him whispers something to him, presumably of your arrival as he looks over as you approach.

As you follow Agent Smith closer, you notice Fury is wearing scent blockers. Not the strongest ones like you, but enough to tone down his scent considerably. For most humans it would probably completely cover his scent unless he deliberately pushed, however with your enhanced senses under the neutral smell you can get hints of his strong spiced yet calm alpha scent. As you stop in front of him you take note that his blackberry smell he usually carries has a slight souring scent indicating his stress.

“Agent Smith dismissed.” Fury says with a nod before turning to me and continuing,
“Umbra, thank you for coming.”
After not seeing him for years you can see how he’s aged; but he still wore his same old poker face that never seemed to give anything away. Although if you didn’t know better you would say there was a flash of gratitude or relief in his eye, but then again could be a trick of the light.
You wonder if it surprised him that you still look the same despite it being years since you last saw him.

Smiling slightly behind your mask, you greet your old ally.
“Fury it’s good to see you. But by the fact you called means it must be serious”

“It is. I assume Agent Smith filled you in on the situation and who you’d be working with.”
He solemn replies. As you nod he continues;
“They have just arrived on deck and will be here soon. I will update you all of the situation then”

You wonder if they also received a file on you, and what would even be in it. Before you could think more on that Fury turns to the agent stood beside him.
An attractive woman, in the same navy blue uniform other agents are wearing. However she must be a commanding officer with the way you see her talking to Fury and instructing the other agents.

The agent, a beta, you can scent now your closer, extends her hand. Taking it and quickly shaking her hand back you nod at her in greeting as Fury introduces you.
“Umbra, this is Agent Hill.”
Fury turns looking over to a man, beta too, dressed in a black suit standing a few paces away.
“And this is Agent Coulson. If at any point you are unable to contact me they are my next in command.”

Looking at Fury you can tell that he has both respect and trust for them. And for him to have faith in either of these people, must mean they are both capable and trustworthy.

“Umbra it’s good to have you with us.” Agent Coulson greets before stepping back to his previous position and instructing other agents.

Standing silently beside Fury you continue to watch those around the room. From what you can make out it seems the craft we are in is about to be camouflaged and take flight.
As Agent Hill walks over to other monitors and Fury calls out orders, you can feel the rumble of the engine beneath your feet.

As the agents launch the craft you hear quiet measured footsteps. Turning you see a red haired woman walking over. Each step measured and light, clearly highly trained. Unlike the other agents she’s not dressed in the all navy uniform, but instead black leather jacket, red top and jeans, with a gun strapped to her thigh.
You can tell she’s an alpha but unable get a distinct scent so she must be on some strong scent blockers. Her guarded eyes watching and observing you, just as you are her, as she makes her way over from two men she walked in with.

As you are watching her, Fury beside you turns from his monitors and faces the two men she came in with.
“Gentlemen” he greets

While still aware of the mysterious red haired alphas movements you turn your attention to them. One alpha, one beta. Both you recognise from the photo in the files you had just read.

As both men approach you watch them both. The beta, Dr. Banner, would be unassuming if not for the way other agents in the room kept glancing over to him warily. He’s good looking, warm brown eyes, fluffy brown hair with streaks of grey throughout. Wearing a button up purple shirt, with brown trousers, he nervously fiddles with his glasses.
If not for his file you doubt you would have seen him as much as a physical threat, nor would have taken note of the slight strangeness of his scent. A subtle, fresh scent with a heady undertone. A doctor with a beast lying beneath the surface.
Seemingly cautious, he made his way over while keeping a small distance and glancing around the room.

Next to him, the alpha, Captain Rogers. Somehow even better looking than his photo he stands tall, drawing eyes to him without even meaning to. He smells purely alpha, a musky but sweet scent, something about him making your inner instincts scream.
His blond hair brushed neatly and dressed in a nice brown leather jacket and checkered shirt he looks around the room with a slight wonder on his face. He catches you looking and gives a small smile.

As Fury steps closer to him, he silently reaches into his jacket and takes out his wallet before handing him a couple bucks. Without saying anything, a slightly smug Fury accepts and puts it in his pocket.

Turning slightly, he addresses me.
“Umbra this is Captain Rogers, Doctor Bruce Banner, and Agent Romanov.” Ah you think to yourself, so the mysterious alpha is Agent Romanov. The file without a photo. You nod towards her before doing the same to the men.
Fury continues addressing them.
“This is Umbra. She will be working with you in the field Captain.”

“Good to meet you ma’am” Rogers addresses you.

Of course this is the moment you forget how to be social or what to say. Staying silent silent, you nod once again. Quirking his eyebrow at your lack of verbal response he smiles once more before he turns back to looking around the room with a curious expression.
Being a bit of a hermit and unable to remember the last time you were surrounded by so many people, your social skills may be slightly rusty. Trying not to focus on your lack of response, or the burning gazes of agents around you, including the beautiful redheaded agent over to your right; you turn your focus back to Fury.

You look over to him to watch as he steps forward, shaking the beta man’s hand.
“Doctor, thank you for coming”

“Thanks for asking nicely. So, um, how long am I staying?” Dr. Banner asks Fury, after curiously glancing your way

“Once we get our hands on the tesseract your in the wind.” Fury nods at the man, understanding that he is obviously uncomfortable here.

“Well where are you with that?” Banner asks, eager to start.

Agent Coulson speaks up from your left. “We are sweeping every wireless accessible camera on the planet”
While he goes into more detail you take note Captain Rogers looks slightly confused by his explanation, while the doctor nods along.

You turn your attention to the female alpha, Romanov as she moves towards a monitor, with a man’s face on the screen. Frowning at the monitor she speaks up “it’s still not gonna find them in time.”

You recognise the man on the monitor to be that of Agent Barton, one of the personnel that was turned by the alien hostile, Loki. On the flight over Agent Smith was adamant that Loki must have done something to Barton as he was a loyal operative. Its concerning that the alien had this unknown ability, you keep in mind to stay extra vigilant, while keeping an eye out for the agent.

Refocusing back to the conversation, Doctor Banner, Fury and Agents continue to talk about how to speed up tracking the stolen weapon down by contacting labs and creating algorithms. Nothing of which you can currently help with. Continuing to simply watch silently in the background, you would offer to help but even if you knew what to do you doubt they would allow you access to their system.

“Do you have somewhere for me to work?” Asked Banner.

“Agent Romanov, would you show doctor Banner to his laboratory please?” Fury commands before walking over to Agent Hill.

As Agent Romanov and Dr. Banner walk out of the bridge you turn your attention towards the Captain.

You watch him, taking in his demeanour, handsome and confident but seemingly not cocky like many alphas.
He is standing straight with arms behind his back, a typical military stance.
If sensing he was being watching he turns and makes eye contact with you. Smiling he walks over to where your stood.

“It’s been a while since I’ve been in a command room, a tad different from my time.” He chuckled awkwardly scratching the back of his neck.

Remembering what you read in his file, being born almost a century ago and frozen for so many years, no wonder he is feeling out of place.
Slightly relieved it’s not just you feeling unsure. Shyly smiling back, despite having your face hidden, you softly speak.
“Mmm.. it’s a lot busier than I expected.”

He looks at you in surprise. “Your not military then?”

Shaking your head, letting out a small laugh at the thought. Trained from birth to survive an intergalactic bounty, not exactly a military background, although you suppose your being here isn’t that far off.

“No”. You replied looking at him.
He seemed to be curious and watching you closely like he was trying to figure out something.
Just as he was about say something Agent Coulson comes over. “Ma’am sorry to interrupt but I have the footage you asked for earlier this way”

As you step away from the captain giving him a slight nod, you follow Agent Coulson. He leads you across the bridge to an unattended console.
On the screen it has a paused video showing three camera angles of what seems to be a large military warehouse, sparse accept the high tech looking equipment and humans in white lab coats working.

Thanking the agent you pull out the chair and sit down. Coulson quickly shows you how to work the screen and play the video before stepping away.

Pressing play for yourself, you watch as a very grainy Fury walk into a large room towards the tesseract and speak to a who seems to be the main scientist.
As you heard Agent Smith explain on the way over, it seems whatever was going on with the tesseract was worrying the scientists with the way they were acting.

Turning from the scientist, Fury then speaks to another man, an agent you guess by the way he moves. As he and the agent were talking the tesseract starts letting out blue sparks and shockwaves.

You watch as the tesseract opens a huge portal.

All the three cameras must have been affected as the video glitches. Only two of the cameras come back online, and you see is military personnel slowly approaching where the portal had been.

Where was the portal was now stands a man. The recording so grainy it is hard to make out the man much. What you can see is he is the hostile you were informed about. Loki.

Holding what seems to be a spear he lets out a blast towards Fury. The previous agent Fury was speaking to knocks them both out the way before they are hit.
You watch as the hostile jumps feet at one of the military men and stand him. He’s quick and powerful you note. He also seems to have throwing knives of some sort, as he takes out two more people.

The video feed seems to cut out again, the next thing you can make out is all the military personnel down and Loki has grabbed the agent Fury was speaking to and brings his spear to his chest. He does this to two others, another agent and a scientist, both were included in the brief in the flight over. You watch Loki closely at how he carries himself.

This must have been how Loki turned Barton, something to do with his spear with a blue shine to it and how he touches Barton’s chest with the tip.
After a grainy figure, who you presume Agent Barton, shoots Fury and they leave with the tesseract in a briefcase.
The video ends with Fury standing up after plucking the bullet from his vest. Patchy and low visibility as the video is you did manage to see the hostile and get a better idea on his abilities.

Pressing play again, you go back to rewatch it to continue studying the hostile.
